wow I loved this episode...I feel like I say that every time but I REALLY REALLY enjoyed this one

first of all its a Dagur episode, which automatically makes it great...most of the screenshots I took are of him. Honestly all of his dialogue is very quotable, especially since so many of the jokes they give him are thinly veiled adult humour

also the B plot with chicken was certainly something (and makes me think the writers were thinking about the end of the hidden world while writing it?)

ok so the beginning of the episode was already tugging at my heartstrings. I love seeing Dagur and Heather's sibling relationship, whether hey're arguing or getting along.

Well that's deeply upsetting! and the fact that he said "most of his life" makes me wonder how much of the confidence Dagur displayed as a teenager was a cover for whatever he was dealing with internally.

The part where Dagur hugs Heather and she looks happy but almost surprised was very bittersweet. It seems like she's still getting used to having a family, and affection catches her off guard.

This is funny but also very upsetting! Snotlout and Dagur really make a habit of using humourous line delivery to cope with being deeply unwell:

*clears throat* uh yeah Dagur, I'm sure you do love a good "fruit bath," from time to time if you know what I mean...

Come on, the writers, animators and voice actor HAVE to have known that line came across as suggestive. Like the way he sounds? His facial expression? They may not have intended it to specifically imply he was talking about getting in a sauna with some twinks, but it certainly sounded like something sensual was going on.

Also I didn't get a shot of this but when Dagur starts listing adjectives to describe Heather's reckless behaviour, Hiccup says "Sentinel" while looking at Oswald's journal. Dagur says something like "that's not quite the word I'd use," which makes me think Dagur was going to call her a not so PG word...

What an asshole (I love him). there's something really funny about Tuff leaning against the tree with a hand on his hip. Poor guy. Astrid and Stormfly were clearly less amused than I was.

Ok let's talk about Hiccup motivating Dagur to open the door to Oswald's shelter. My little Dagcup heart was really soaring here. And look at the lighting!

Oooohh man, Dagur expressing guilt about his past and Hiccup trying to help him through it also really got to me.

Dagur: I was a villain!

Hiccup: No, you were a kid

Because yeah, Dagur in Riders of Berk/Defenders of Berk did horrible things, but he was also enabled by all the adults in his life who could have stepped up after Oswald left. I've already written (both in posts and in one of my Dagcup fics) about how being thrown into a dungeon as a kid only made Dagur a worse person (no one in the show talks about the scars on his face that weren't there before...). And There is clearly an opportunity for restorative justice when it comes to characters like Alvin and Eret that wasn't extended to Dagur despite the fact that they had already overpowered him and could have at least given him a choice between punishment and trying to make up for his actions. Anyway...let me not rant about that anymore.

Before the episode where Fishlegs helps Dagur fly Shattermaster, I would have assumed Dagur would make fun of Fishlegs for being a nerd -- but instead he appreciates it. I think their friendship is super adorable, and I wish we got to see more of it.

Okey i know is´nt beging Mermay I was planning to post it next year as when I saw this beautiful lineart by @mdoodlerfandomart I was kidnapped by the university and couldn't paint it until July, however, when I saw that someone else posted another colored lineart I felt more confident about posting it here

For Dagur's tail I was inspired by the Triple Stryke as I thought it would really look great on him and I ended up really like the result.

The lightning still doesn't convince me completely but honestly I don't have the artistic skills to do it better, however, I really liked the result and I hope I was able to do it justice.

The more I think about it (this post talking about Hiccup having a bit of an “I’m always right” ego) the more HTTYD2/3 & even RTTE Hiccup seems so fascinating to me actually. Not a negative critique, I genuinely think with this bit of perspective I can enjoy these movies more than I already do (which is a FEAT for someone as httyd obsessed as me)

Like he feels more believable as a 20 year old person instead of just an older version of his teen self?? If that makes sense??? I think it helps that I like. Kind of managed to make a connection comparing him to Phoenix Wright except AA actually more explicitly addressed Phoenix’s ego.

(For those unfamiliar with Ace Attorney: Phoenix is a very similarly snarky though idealistic protagonist who in the first game establishes himself as a bit of a hero in the legal world and as a defence attorney, serves as a devil’s advocate for the persecuted and proves their innocence through his sheer undying loyalty and faith. But in the second game his “I need to be the hero I’m the only one who can do it” complex comes to bite him in the butt and another character essentially says “Listen to yourself. We’re not heroes, we’re only human you and I” and the message is instead of the defense trying to be the sole hero saving everyone, he has to trust the prosecution and they need to work together for justice to be served, guilty or not.)

And like. Back to HTTYD. One of Hiccup’s defining traits is that he’s stubborn! That is a great boon to him in the first movie when he sticks with his beliefs in the dragons not being monsters, in brains being better than brawn. But after being the one used to being right about certain things when everyone else was wrong for so long, is it really that unbelievable that his fatal flaw is, shown time and time again, not listening to the words of those who care about him until the consequences come to bite him?

Astrid and Dagur in Enemy Of My Enemy trying to get through to Hiccup’s thick skull that he shouldn’t have to do all this alone, that revenge will consume him.

Midnight Scrum where, in return for not wanting to open up and take Astrid’s advice to tell Stoick what’s going on because that means being a burden, Hiccup gets kidnapped and targeted by a bunch of people.

HTTYD2 where it turns out: He cannot just go talk to Drago! His parents were actually right!

HTTYD3 has its flaws but it had this message too!

Hiccup is kind, inventive, empathetic, and optimistic. He is also, knowingly or not, biting the hands that didn’t feed him. Only now the hands are trying to feed him and he’s still biting. (Which. Hooooo sounds more like a trauma response now that I’ve said it aloud) And that is such a fascinating trait to me (affectionate) that I wish the fandom explored more because it makes him more of a balanced character! (And also relatable as someone who was also bullied as a kid then had to gradually learn to let go of my own ego because the world does not revolve around me)

College Days (and career plans)

After seeing a really fun Yona of the Dawn AU fanart with the characters in college, I started thinking about the Dragons crew.

Hiccup: Engineering. He's going to become an inventor and has already done some of that. He'll probably have his own company after graduation that makes just about everything. Need a replacement limb? Phone? Cylindrical item that will lead you to various reptiles and the journey of a lifetime? He's got you covered on all fronts. If it can be built, it will be.

Astrid: Law enforcement. She's eventually going to a police academy (cue the movie of the same name), so she wants to be prepared. She'll become a police captain in the future. It'll be very obvious why crime rates are plummeting in whatever city she's in.

Fishlegs: Zoology. He's always been into science, so he's going to become a zoologist to study animals all over the world. He absolutely loves his work and probably brings a few creatures home to study for a little longer before taking them back to the lab.

Snotlout: Drama. He's planning on becoming an actor. His work as Sir Ulgerthorpe has convinced me that he at least could be good on a stage. Plus, he's a drama queen. Maybe he'll get on the screen one day too. He's also considering if he wants to try out screenwriting and/or directing eventually. If he does become a director, he'll be one of the best and most bossy somehow.

Ruffnut: Digital communication and media/multimedia. She's honestly not here for any reason other than it's where Tuffnut and their friends are. That said, the twins are going to become YouTubers, so she figures she might as well become good at making videos.

Tuffnut: Crafts. He missed how Ruffnut's idea will actually be useful in their future job and thought this sounded fun. His reasoning is that he'll make some cool crafts to show off to their viewers. He's probably right, but there are still a dozen sighs directed his way because of this choice.

Dagur: Undecided. He's gone through business to see if he wanted to be an entrepreneur, then wasn't sure if he should just go to an entrepreneurship degree, had a few in between, and the latest one was psychology to try to understand his mind. At this point, he's hoping he sticks with something long enough to graduate on time with the credits. Can't say he isn't getting a well-rounded education, though. Just don't even get him started on career plans. He figures that he'll teach martial arts to pay for bills until he comes up with an idea he can keep for longer than a month.

Heather: Music. She's going to become a singer and probably be a vocal and guitar teacher later on. She's the only member of the group who we've heard sing and not sound bad (minus Snotlout surprisingly in my opinion. Oi oi oi), so I can see her doing this. She's not planing on being some superstar or anything. Just most likely at some venues and on YouTube, so maybe Ruffnut's new skills can help out.

Mala: Doctor of medicine for surgery. She's in the doctoral program (because I'm convinced she is a nice amount of years older than the others) and going to become a surgeon. This is something she's wanted to do for a while since she enjoys healing people. Meeting the others made her want to do this even more since she's sure at least one of them is going to be in a terrible accident one day and will need a good surgeon. Her bet is on Hiccup, the twins, or Dagur.

Throk: Criminal justice. He's already graduated, but he is receiving specialized training to become a body guard. When he gets free time, he comes around to spend time with the others. He's part of the bet with Mala and bets that Ruffnut will NOT need a surgeon because there's no way he's allowing such harm to come to her.

Atali: Women's studies. She's going to run a women's shelter when she graduates. She is also considering getting a master's.

Minden: Physical education. She's following her bestie and going to teach self-defense to the women Atali helps out.

Gobber: Welding engineering. He loved this in his university days and started up his own company. This is how he got Hiccup into making things too.

Stoick: Political science. He joined the marines when he was younger and became a high-ranking officer before coming back home to care for Hiccup.

Johann: Law. He became a slimy lawyer who always gets the really dangerous criminals off and puts away innocent people.

Viggo: Economics. He wanted to be very shrewd with his spending. He owns a company that seems like it's a tech manufacturing company on the outside but is actually smuggling a bit of everything.

Ryker: Criminology. He did this to understand just what risks the criminals who work for/with him could face. He works for Viggo (because of course he does) and is the VP of the business.

Krogan: Business management. On the outside, it seems like he's got a weapons manufacturing company, but he uses it to work with the Grimborns and hurt people.

Sooo I have a question and some musings about Shattered Fate:

What do you think would happen if Dagur died before Hiccup? (I have a pretty good idea of what would happen vice versa...uhh...rage). But Hiccup is extremely dependent on Dagur for not only his position in court but his entire sense of identity. I can't figure out if he would just be devastated and lose his sense of purpose or if the part of him that hates Dagur would come back in full force. (I'm thinking a mix of both?)

I'm also wondering how Signy would react. Unless there was a major change in their relationship, I feel like she wouldn't be too upset about Dagur's death, especially if they already had heirs she could depend on to keep the line of succession clear.

Sometimes I like to imagine a situation where (after having a couple kids for security) Signy orchestrates Dagur's death (I'm thinking something similar to Robert Baratheon's demise), and I like to go back and forth between Hiccup being extremely upset about it and hating her at first or Signy convincing Hiccup to help her with the assassination.

I think despite how much I love the pain in Shattered Fate, I really just want some sort of justice for Hiccup in the end, lol

I also wonder how Signy and Hiccup might work together after Dagur's death -- if Signy's position is precarious because she has young children and isn't a warrior, and Hiccup's is even more precarious because of how little the other nobles respect him, the two of them would have to work real hard to prevent anything from happening to them.

Ok...I also think I really want Hiccup and Signy to become friends/allies

Oh my gosh, yes, I love these ideas! I’ve definitely thought about that! (Oh my god, am I going to write for a series I thought I finished?)

I feel that Hiccup would be a devastated mess if Dagur died, no matter how he does die. Hiccup and Signy would probably be friends/allies at this point, and I can see her helping Hiccup pick up the pieces of himself.

I love the idea of Signy assassinating Dagur (once she has heirs of course), and getting Hiccup to help. I could see Hiccup wanting to help, but then, again, falling apart and regretting his decision once Dagur is actually dead.

As for their place in court? Very hard to hold onto. People would see both Signy and Hiccup as politically vulnerable.

Which leads me to this thought… Signy marrying Hiccup so that he can stay at court and have less assassination attempts, and maybe more respect. Either that, or Signy would lose a lot of respect for doing so.

I have created a political mess and you just made it worse in the best way possible. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

Lyf headcanons pt4

I've seen a lot of AUs and crossovers with HTTYD and can't help but think what if there was a new AU crossover of Vincenzo(kdrama) and Hiccstrid.

It would make for such an entertaining headcanon idea, like imagine a ruthless Hiccup who's playing Vincenzo being a badass mafia lawyer and Astrid being Cha Young, a brazen bold tenacious lawyer but with a twist of HTTYD universe. Although come to think about it Ruffnut's personality suits Cha Young more...

Since their personalities clash it would be messy if not written properly. But I want to see Hiccup as an antihero character who wants peace just as much as canon Hiccup and is ruthless enough to use merciless justice to achieve it. And as amazingly badass as Astrid is physically Cha Young's mental strength is something I think would very much complement these female leads very well.

Given Hiccstrid's witty comebacks and snarks (coughmainlyHiccup'scough), it would be fun to see them out of the Viking physical fighting stereotype for a bit and see Hiccstrid as badass lawyers who use wits and words instead of Inferno and the axe.

With enough backstory in this AU would be such a fun take since Vincenzo is dealing with the corruption of the law and HTTYD is dealing with adaptation and transformation from the old into the new (aka traditions to moderness).

The dragons would have to be inexistent tho. Else it's gonna be weird considering it to be a modern AU. Imagine Toothless as Inzhagi lmao.

And Viggo as Choi Myung Hee. Maybe Dagur as Park Seok Do or Hwang Min Seong. And Drago or Grimmel as Jang Han Seok. There would definitely be a lot of OC's as well.

And without the whole Maces and Talons metaphor, coz while it was a fun mind game it, soon got old with how much it was mentioned. And Viggo's actions were kind of predictable season four onwards once Hiccup match up with his game.

(P.s. this is just me being salty on the writers rtte coz some episodes especially seaason five onwards it felt more of like wasted potential rather than fulfilling. Like King of Dragons or 1&2 felt so rushed like huh?!) Anyays rants aside feel free to disagree.

Should I write it? Maybe I'll pos some headcanons here. It's gonna be a WIP.

thinking about how teenage dagur was sent to outcast prison for years despite doing the the same things the outcasts themselves were doing

and while yes, we all love dragons because we saw httyd 1 and we know how loveable they can be, dagur really has no reason to think of them as anything other than monsters to hunt, nor does he have a reason to trust berk for allying with dragons

and how he was basically a kid with no structure in his life, trying to prove himself as a leader, surrounded by yes men who enabled his terrible behaviour

and how prison only made him a worse person, and if he had been sentenced to something else instead - like helping to repair communities he'd harmed or take care of dragons, he probably could have had a redemption arc a lot sooner. he had no strong emotional bonds in his life and i think continually engaging in empathy would have made a difference.

but also...alvin, a mentally stable grown man, gets let off the hook for changing his mind at the last moment

and dagur, clearly an unstable kid in need of help, is thrown into a dungeon for shit the adults in his life took part in

also yes, I know this show takes place in a time before things like therapy but restorative justice is not a modern invention and there are examples of cultures in history using that instead of just execution or imprisonment

Redemption arcs! A wonderful trope that’s often done terribly (kyle ron) but there are some amazing character arcs in animated series. 

I really love the idea that kids can grow up with these characters, with the idea that even if you made mistakes or wrong choices or got mixed up with the wrong people, it’s never too late to change and work on being a good person and making the world a better place.

I also really wanted to include Chloe because I loved the way her arc was going in s2, it was really interesting but unfortunately they abandoned that idea and I really don’t trust the writers to do it justice, so here’s an honorary mention for what could have been.

Which of the residents have the nicest temperaments?

This is such a good question I had to take new pictures for it to do it justice.  Thank you, anon!  Of course, there’s no way only one can be picked, so I’ll give a bit of a house fave line up.  

This guy is a tiny bit stand offish when bothered, but he makes up for that with raw curiosity when he’s relaxed.  He’s a bit smaller than a lot of my other males and has a bit of a juvi look still that adds to his cute.  Whenever I’m doing anything nearby he’s got to check it out, watching what’s going on with his little mustache face.  

Dagur!  Best Mind Your Own Business! 

This guy has been top of the fave list since he got mature enough to stop being scared all the time, and he’s still right up there.  This guy is the whole package.  He doesn’t make a huge mess of his home.  Doesn’t flip his hides.  Doesn’t get wet hide substrate all over every surface.  Poops all in one corner.  And he’s a calm boy who doesn’t mind a bit of handling and even a little head petting.  

Mars!  All Around Good Boy! 

On the opposite end, this guy flips everything around in his house five seconds after its been cleaned.  I’m talking everything wadded up in one corner, poop wherever it may land anarchy.  He’s a food begger who will scratch for worms at you from his filth prison even after he’s just eaten. But unlike some (Cygni) he’s not too skittish and is a little curious even though being handled isn’t his favorite thing. 

Link!  Biggest Hot Mess! 

This lady has been high in the cute face category since she got here and she’s still going strong.  She’s probably one of the biggest bite risks in the house as anything moving is probably food and she’s hungry all the time, just look at her she’s starving.  This also makes her grade A++ cute wide-eyed hungry face.  She’s the only gecko I’ve ever had try to jump lunge straight up to eat my face when I was even within two feet of her.  If you walk past her house at the right time, you’ll probably hear a thump cause she was ready to try and eat your body whole.  

Esper!  Most Ambitious!  

We all might be used to the protesting chirps and mini grunts that leos tend to give, but this girl is the household’s most threatening heck off.  Fat tails are smoother and squishier than leopard geckos, which makes this girl’s upset something like being threatened by a squeaky toy. Most of the time, she’s a sweet little lump, but when she’s moody or the sprayer is wetting the moist hide closer than she prefers, she full on open mouth hisses.  A full hiss.  The long hiss.

Anyone who has been paying attention on this blog won’t be surprised to see the best girl on here.  Look at her face.  Even with her tongue out like that you’re probably feeling judged right now.  She’s another whole package girl who will actually beg for the hand elevator even if she won’t want to be actually out for too long.  It’s like if a gecko was a cat.  Demanding and making you do all the work.

A premise

I've been working on something for the last 3 years, a story about fairytales.

The basic concept is about a world where all fairytales, legends and mythos are all real and in one universe. The god of this universe is Mother Goose (omg stands for oh my goose) and all fairytales are recorded in her book, but the book is not only caple of recording events but also altering realty (think the author in Once upon a time) which means the book is a very dangerous weapon in the hands of evil, and guess what happens. Mother goose is held captive by an ancient evil taken possession of a depressed and influential young man, and both want revenge for how their story's end. Luckily Mother goose has hidden the book somewhere safe and send a messenger to find 5 heroes to stop the ancient evil. Which heroes you ask? Well let me introduce them.

Goldie Locks: sweet, caring and armed with a big hammer, Goldie is ready to take on whatever comes her way. And maybe even find out about her birth parents.

Humpty Benedict Dumpty: when an eagle laid three eggs, one of which wouldn't hatch. When a kind fairy came along she used her magic to bring life into the egg. LITTERALY the egg grew limbs, a face and Humpty was born. Growing up bitter as a freak of nature despite the love of his family. Humpty joins hoping to find the fairy that gave him life and make her turn him into the eagle he was meant to be.

Jackson Manuel Rivera: his most well known achievement was climbing a beanstalk and slaying a giant (though technically gravity did the slaying). The best way to describe jack is, imagine a fusion of Hiccup Haddock, Dagur the Deranged, Flynn Rider, Hector Rivera, Jack Skellington and Peter B Parker. Jack's sense of justice is what caused his decision to join the group.

"Red" [SPOILER] Amelia [SPOILER]: nobody knows her real name or much of her past. She won't say why she decided to join or how she's putting up with the others shenanigans, but she somehow does. Will we ever know why she feels uncomfortable around scarecrows and rainbows? Time will tell.

Felicity DeMayo: I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH SHE IS NOT PUSS IN BOOTS! Now that that's out of the way, felicity grew up as an orphan with only a letter from her parents saying why they can't raise her. Growing up around docks and ships felicity became a captain, a pirate captain (sadly without a crew). Felicity has a love for treasure and a values loyalty above anything else, she joins simply because she's bored and looking for adventure.

Chester: a messenger send out by mother goose to find heroes to save the world. What he was thinking choosing these guys he'll never know. He's mostly there to keep the group on track and focused on the mission, which isn't easy for someone who can't talk.

And there we have the premise and main characters. I call it Not An Ordinary Fairytale.
