As always, there's albums I either haven't gotten to yet, they dropped last min (i.e., Conway The Machine) or I simply was not aware of either the new album by an artist or had never heard of before. Thanks to 3 of you (@theniggadrop @boombap_head @ratingalbums), I had more albums to check out for my recent New Year's vacation. Now that I'm back and unable to start posting stuff for 2018 until I address these, here are my late additions to my Top 100 albums of 2017. #36: #FlyAnakin #KonceptJackson #ChapelDrive Foodsic Stats: 4.29 / 35%🔥 / Notable features/producers: #NickelusF / --------------- 2017 Rankings --------------- 🎧 As of 1/11/18, I have listened & ranked 216 full albums and 39 EPs within hip-hop for 2017. I've listened to a lot of music and have spent hours upon hours coming up with my final Album & EP rankings. My ranking process: 1) I use a traditional 5-star system per track (including intros, interludes, skits, etc.) and then take a straight average (though I'd love to one day use a "weighted average" to account for a track's duration compared to the entire album length) 2) These rankings are constantly changing with repeat listens as music and how I perceive/process/understand it also changes. So even though I'm listing my top albums today, this list will most likely change days/weeks from today... so consider these rankings merely as a snapshot in hip-hop time. 3) Quantitative Analysis - Using my massive Google spreadsheet, I'll quickly sort by ratings in addition to a 2nd filter I began this year (Fire %). Fire % is the % of 5-star tracks on a given album. 4) Qualitative Analysis - This is my final filter. After all my left brain analytical statistics, in the end it always comes down to this: Do I love this album? Do I really prefer this album over other higher-ranked albums? And will I be playing this album for years to come? That's it. So without further ado, here's my top 100 albums for 2017 (scroll down for prior list). Keep in mind that these ratings change over time with repeat listens. o 5.00 = Masterpiece o 4.50 = Classic o 4.25 = Excellent - Has enough to be more than Solid, but not quite close to Classic. This album quite possibly will be in rotation for years to come. o 4.00 = Solid - The album is something I'm going to listen to more than a few times and will probably stay in my rotation for the next few weeks/months. Only has a few missteps within the project. o 3.75 = Pretty Good - Many of the tracks I can get into but overall nothing great here. o 3.00 to 3.50 = OK to "Ehhh, whatever..." - The album might have a few stand-out tracks but that's it. o 2.25 to 3.00 = Mostly Garbage – If I’m lucky, I’ll find at least one 5-star 🔥 track so hopefully my time wasn’t wasted. o Below 2.00 = Pure Shit.
