I'm going to be honest: I am fascinated by Thomas Kinkade discourse.

Because, for the life of me, I don’t know why people hate his paintings so much. They are the most inoffensive art pieces ever created, and yet so many people react to them with absolute revulsion, hatred, and vitriol.

I wouldn't even consider myself a Thomas Kinkade fan. I think some of his works are pretty good. Others are merely average. At the worst, most of them are bland and ordinary. Nothing really worth getting riled up about.

And yet, so many people seem to have an irrational knee jerk reaction to his art. I can get being offended by art that is meant to offend, from crosses in jars of piss to giant dumps of poo on the American flag. Because that type of artwork is offensive. That art was made to offend and disgust and revolt people.

But, fam, how does anyone look at a cozy cottage in the middle of a woods at sunset and think to themselves, "this is the most offensive art I have ever seen!" How does anyone looks at Kinkade's art and claim that "these paintings make my corneas hurt" or "they make me want to puke" or insist that Kinkade is "the George W Bush of art"?

Again, I can’t wrap my head around the reason why. I can understand being offended by art meant to be offensive, but to be offended by something that’s otherwise inoffensive…again, that fascinates me. Why are people so offended over things that are not offensive?

Thomas Kinkade Reverse Painted Glass Lamp Landscape

Pastoral artist Thomas Kinkade was known for his soft, almost surreal light use. The kitschy cottage meadows draped over the round shade, held up by a dark sturdy metal base makes a lovely fixture for the cottage-goths in the neighborhood. This one is about 23" tall. Honestly, the glow of it on is so much more elegant than the otherwise undefined pastels that make it up when lit from above and not below.

kidge lunch date !

hey hey kidge shippers ! today , I’ve been wanting to talk to you about the lunch date that we can see in the Atlas ever since it is an amazing scene !! (for the people who need a reminder , it’s episode 7 season 8 :p )

let’s first start with a desciption of the scene :

OK , so we have Pidge and Keith sat in a table in the Atlas . we can see that they were going to eat together and enjoy each other’s company until the interuption by Razavi and Kinkade...

somehow , keith seem annoyed by their presence wich is understandable and frustreted . pidge seem kinda lost ( ngl ) and sort of surprised ?? IDK ! but she deosn’t seem has anoyed as keef... this is my fafourite part of this ship , how keith is always on the defensive while pidge takes a little longer to snap .. she is in general pretty soft in my opinion . love that ! omg I’ll make another post about the kidge dinamic !

when Razavi ask pidge a question , Pidge answere very nicely she is adorable fr.  when the camera turns to Keith (when pidge is done talking ) , he was still looking at her untile Razavi called him and asked him a question . 

he looked like he was trying to ask her to leave or something idk.. he just seem so annoyed all along gosh.

then Razavi ask him a question :

can’t find the moment where he frown to the camera ... WICH IS ALL ALONG BIHRTBRGBOHQBOVBUTHO

anyways , still looking annoyed here , he seem to answere as quick as possible .

then Hunk arrive and the three ( Razavi , Kinkade and Hunk) are starting to talk about cooking .

finaly keith asks if the interview is over :

still: ANNOYED.

the fact is : keith invited Pidge eat with him ; I think he did because of how he reacts all along . ( you can see it platonicaly or other ways , that’s up to you <3 )

he just wanted to have a nice time with the amazing green paladin that he ABSOLUTELY ADORES ( Bex’s words )

just think this is adorable to see them have some time together and that shows us that behind scenes , they do have canon bonding moments ! ( again , see it platonicaly if you want to , still up to you ! ) 

Kidge deserved more screen time and bonding moments on screen . vld missed something and I feel like they realized it in the season 8 ever since on that season , we have a lot of kidge and basicaly they are just standing next to each other 24/7. 

the realisators must have noticed that they had missed something big.

I also like how the first tweet is clearly just barely keeping himself from saying it's a "dogwhistle" or "coded".

And how he handwaves vaguely in the direction of art history without providing a single indication of where one should start "the reading". Or making a single checkable claim, at all, in the entire thread.

I think he only specified a single book, upon request, to one person.

Lots of people hate modernist, abstract art, including folks firmly on the left.

This isn't even guilt by association, it's guilt by imaginary similarity.
