It had been a long time coming, Beatrice thought.
The last time she'd been in this position, she'd been very stressed and emotionally wrought, but now, now everything was perfect. She and Benedict were getting married on their terms and nobody was bossing them around. Their acquaintances were now dear friends and the home they lived in would soon have the sounds of growing children laughing and running about.

JOMP BPC - 2nd June - Currently Reading
I'm finding Peter Pan quite odd and I can't say that I'm loving it, but I will persevere - it's not very long. I might find myself suddenly caught up in it, you never know.
I'm listening to the audiobook of North and South, which is read very well by Juliet Stevenson. So far (I've listened to 2 out of 17 hours) I'm engrossed in it and also very cross with Mr Hale! Who are the adults in this family, sir? And who is responsible for dealing with the consequences of their own actions, do you suppose?! I come from a working class, northern background with both parents born in a northern city, and that adds an interesting perspective on the snobbery shown towards the north by the characters rooted in the south of england - a snobbery/judgement that hasn't completely disappeared, in my experience.
I only started Now She is Witch this morning. It has a very gripping, somewhat disturbing start and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Charlie Cox: ‘I love being a superhero — I thought that ship had sailed’
Charlie Cox on the return of Daredevil, the joys of sea swimming in Dalkey and his rewarding character-driven work in RTÉ’s Kin
Tumblr media
Kirsty Blake Knox   April 27, 2023 (X)
Charlie Cox is a busy man; he smiles widely from the back of a car as it ferries him from a physical therapy session to the set of Disney’s Daredevil.
“We’ve just kind of started, it’s really great. Pretty intense, hence the physical therapy,” he says.
Cox has returned to play Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer-slash-superhero.
The show started life on Netflix and ran for three seasons before it was cancelled in 2018.This resulted in an online #SaveDaredevil campaign which resulted in 400,000 signatures begging Marvel to bring him back.
It took a little time; a contractual clause prevented any characters from the Marvel-Netflix shows from appearing in any non-Netflix projects for two years after cancellation.
And now Cox is suiting up again in his Spandex costume, running around punching people in the face and fighting for justice. It’s a demanding shoot — the series is 18 episodes long. And he is a fan of doing as many of his stunts as possible.
“I kind of get involved as much as I’m allowed to and is appropriate. Obviously, the stunt team are professionals and there are things they can do that I can’t even get close to,” he says. “I feel like the name of the game is to get as involved as you can… it makes the scenes more realistic.”
Cox took on the role, which had once been played by Ben Affleck in 2015. At the time, landing the role came as a shock.
“I never thought of myself as being appropriate casting for an American superhero. That never really occurred to me,” he says. “And in my 20s, a lot of my friends, and a lot of British actors, had gone and done that already. So when I got to 30 I was pretty confident that ship had sailed. I was very fortunate to get a character that I’ve now been playing for almost 10 years. It’s unbelievable.”
Cox is a father to two young children (seven and three) but they are a little young to fully grasp the role their dad plays in the Marvel Universe.
“I’m not sure they quite understand… One of the books we read him (his three-year-old) is called Superbat. A bat who is a superhero. But that’s his only real understanding. And so he thinks that I’m Superbat,” he laughs.
Cox realised he wanted to be an actor while in school and studied at Bristol Old Vic drama school. His first big break came in 2007 when he starred in Stardust alongside Robert De Niro and Michele Pfeiffer.
He has performed on the West End and Donmar Warehouse, in dramas like Treason and took on the role of Owen Sleater in Martin Scorsese’s Boardwalk Empire. For Irish viewers, we can see Cox on our screens every Sunday night, as Michael Kinsella in gangland drama Kin.
It’s pretty unusual for Marvel Universe actors to appear in a homegrown Irish drama. But Cox’s wife is executive producing the series. When another project he was attached to fell through, he read the scripts and felt compelled to be part of it.
“I’ve been working probably 20-plus years, and there’s a handful of times where I’ve read a script and felt like I’m reading something written by a truly brilliant writer,” he says. “And that quality of scripts never ceased. Sometimes you can get a really good pilot episode. But then as you get deeper into the season, some of the writing starts to disintegrate a little bit, but with Peter (McKenna) that was never the case.”
Obviously, the scale of production is a lot smaller on Kin than other productions, but he says these productions can be just as, if not more, rewarding to work on.
“If you have a limited budget, the way you handle that is you write long character-driven scenes… So weirdly, the lower budget stuff often is more appealing. Because you get to really get deep into the character and the relationships and the dynamics… it’s sort of like theatre. So, from my point of view, sometimes that stuff is more appealing.”
He continues; “I’ve learned I’m not precious about my character’s involvement. I don’t care much if my character does cool stuff … what I care about is, ‘are they moving?’”
Tumblr media
He says this is some of the appeal of playing Michael.
“This life that he’d come from…and now he’s trying to rekindle a relationship with his daughter. [The] vulnerability, and the desire, and the need to fundamentally change his nature. That was really exciting to me.”
Cox perfected his Irish accent by listening to the voice of former Dublin goalkeeper, Shane Supple. He got up to speed with Ireland’s gangland scene by listening to podcasts featuring award winning crime journalist Nicola Tallant.
“I was kind of blissfully ignorant of the whole thing,” he says. “When I actually read the first two scripts, I just thought it was all fiction and then I agreed to do the part and I started doing my research. I was like, ‘oh, shit, this stuff is happening. It’s current and it’s happening right now.’”
Despite the violent nature of the series, he found filming and living in Ireland to be idyllic.
He and his family were based in the seaside village of Dalkey — where Matt Damon was holed up during lockdown. Cox became a sea swimming fanatic while residing there.
“I absolutely loved being there… I had conversations with my wife about moving to Dublin because I loved it so much. It’s not really viable with my job… Season one, we’re in lockdown. We lived in Hanover Quay, which was delightful…
“Season two, we moved to Dalkey. I felt like it was one of the best kept secrets in Europe… I was swimming in Vico every day… I found it to be like a haven. And I would love an opportunity to go back at any stage.”
Tumblr media
Cox is extremely polite and amenable. And modest — despite his success, Cox says he still suffers professional insecurities.
“I never think I’m going to be hired,” he laughs. “I read years ago that Christopher Walken always thinks his job he’s doing is going to be the last time he is hired. I don’t quite have that, but I certainly identify with it. I’ve never felt like ‘Oh, I’m always going to be hired.’”
He says this comes with some advantages, as it makes him more present.
“I’m filming in New York and I’m lucky enough that I’m still able to play a kind of a lead in a TV show,” he says. “You know, the time is ticking on that in a big way. And so I certainly don’t want to wish that away.
“It would be easy to kind of bemoan the amount of hours you have to work, and missing the family, but there’ll come a time where I would kill to be able to be the lead in the TV show. I think the trick is to really enjoy it while it lasts.”
As he makes his way out of his car and towards his makeup chair, I ask if he has any projects outside of Daredevil coming down the tracks.
“I’m going to be doing this until the end of the year. And then I’ll be back on the panic station wondering if I am ever going to work again,” he laughs.

Fantasy Book Recs
For the people who asked for book recs, muhahaha...
(You may be interested in my book tag or my goodreads) The tag definitely repeats some of my favourites because I keep recommending them, but in my defence, they are excellent and I need no defence.
Anyway, fantasy book recs my love...I know I have a type. We all know I have a type. I was not kidding about the fairytales/retellings obsession.
Also, let’s get it out of the way. Literally ANYTHING by V.E Schwab. I cannot stress that enough. My favourite is The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue, but like. God tier.
I’m just going to go and add Leigh Bardugo here as well. Slightly less god tier, but still great. Especially Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom which is god tier.
Short(er) stories and short story collections
The Poison Eaters and Other Stories by Holly Black
A Portable Shelter and A Rental Heart and Other Fairytales and Things We Say In The Dark by Kirsty Logan
A Spindle Splintered by Alix. E. Harrow
Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor
The Greenhollow Duology by Emily Tesh
Wayward Children novellas by Seanan McGuire
Hag (collection with numerous authors)

Middlegame by Seanan McGuire
The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
Dark Rise by C.S Pascat
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (I think the series goes down in quality, but the first one is excellent and I think can be read standalone)
The Montague Siblings trilogy by Mackenzie Lee
The Folk of Air trilogy and The Darkest Part of the Forest and The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
Peter Darling by Austin Chant
The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker
The Binding by Bridget Collins
The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J Klune

I was tagged in this meme, so we're doing this cuz it's Friday
Thank you for tagging me @esicko
Last song: That I listened to, liked on Spotify, Googled or sang? BE SPECIFIC, MEME. To that end: I dunno, something from this playlist (it got a bit precious so I turned it off); "Early in the Morning", Peter, Paul and Mary; "The Ballad of Sally Anne", performed by Rhiannon Giddens; "Fairy Tale of New York", The Pogues, with Kirsty MacColl (RIP, Shane McGown; no you don't have to sing the slur).
Favorite colour: Blue, but a deep burgundy is always pleasing to the eye (and the palate).
Last movie watched: (WHERE? C'mon meme, you could plumb so much deeper with these Qs) at home, The Duellists (1977, Ridley Scott, dir.), which was a deliberate choice to wash the memory of trying to watch Ridley Scott's Napoleon from my brain (what an irredeemable, ahistorical, poorly cast, indifferently acted, turgidly-paced, self-indulgent, steaming pile of horseshit); in theatres, Argylle.
Currently watching: My computer screen.
Sweet, spicy or savoury: Savoury, which can also include spicy flavours (and often does). My three favourite flavours are peppermint, cinnamon, and the tears of my enemies.
That last one is a lie—I prefer a nice primativo or pinot noir.
Relationship status: Depends on the *type* of relationship, now doesn't it? XP
Last thing googled: "pinot noir or Pinot Noir" (on any given day, I retain only enough knowledge of the rules of capitalization to know that I should double-check the rules of capitalization when proofreading).
Current Obsession: Must I narrow it down to just one? In no particular order—fountain pens, FemShep from Mass Effect, werewolves, SHOGUN on Disney+ (may your knives chip and shatter), mastering the combat system in Kingdom Come: Deliverance (KCD dev team, you can eat my whole ass), Viking-era and medieval European swords, Willow (2022), ridiculously expensive Japanese paper, my friends, my niblings, and these overalls that I bought at Target.
Current/last read: The Hero and The Crown, Robin McKinley (1984).
Looking forward to: Finishing the piece of fiction I stared on August 2, 2023.
Tagging in: Anyone who sees this and wants to play, and also my darlings @thassalia, @handypolymath, @frelledbyfate, and @cretkid—I always want to know you better.
Hey, I saw you @starsgoblue come back here (but only if you feel like it 😘). You, too, @kernezelda. Get in there. 😘
Throwing @wigster07, @overkill-max, and @rehizle28 into the barrel as well to see who bites. 😜

Someone asked on some reblog about HR
@giulliadella yes, and is from the 2nd draft written by Peter Atkins. The scene goes as :
PINHEAD How can it send us back, child? We're already here. And so are you.
Suddenly PINHEAD works at the box himself - by remote control and with dazzling skill.
He turns the box rapidly through positions KIRSTY and we have never seen before - even opening it out at one stage into a large, two-dimensional square. Finally, it closes itself down - but in a wholly new shape; a white, multi-faceted, diamond shape -and drops back into KIRSTY's hands.
He stares at KIRSTY and makes a small gesture with his brow. It is ALMOST cute. If anything, it resembles the cocky, aren't-I- clever look STEVE gave KIRSTY after swallowing the cigarette in HELLRAISER. Then his face assumes its normal deadly blankness.
KIRSTY shakes her head dumbly and begins to back into a corner, hoping that if they converge on her, she might just be able to slip around them and get back to the labyrinth. KIRSTY No! You... You can't! It wasn't me...I didn't do it! I didn't open the box! FEMALE CENOBITE Didn't open the box. And what was it last time? Didn't know what the box was. And yet we DO keep finding each other, don't we?
PINHEAD Oh, Kirsty; so eager to play, so reluctant to admit it. FEMALE CENOBITE Perhaps you're teasing us. Are you teasing us?
To some extent, KIRSTY's ploy is working. The CENOBITES are moving closer together as they advance to the corner in which she stands. KIRSTY But I didn't open it! I didn't! PINHEAD Then why are you here?
------- I'll remove this post some point later. My head hurts and I do not know why i made this post. I should see if it is same draft they added to latest Arrow limited edition box.
