She finds Kaworu in the same place she left him, sitting against the wall with his head in his hands. The candlelight sets off an amber glow, and in the halo of light, she can see Kaworuās shoulders shaking, his breath hitching in little hics. The tallies drawn on the wall behind him shine like hundreds of tiny white gravestones.
Kawoshin Week Day 5: Rebuild/Q + Timelooping Gays Crossover! Based on the Evangelion x Madoka Magica crossover fic graduation day by phollie, which I adore

Captain America: Brave New World (CABNW) analysis
This movie is all about themes of rehabilitation, hope, and not allowing your past to define your future.
Sam is redefining the mantle of the shield, and reclaiming his independence. Since reaching adulthood, he has worked as part of the military, or in a major team, and always besides super powered people (not that he was the only regular human in the Avengers, but you know). And now Sam gets to herald a new age of modern values of rehabilitation.
Steve was also a man of hope, but he (as a white man) fought the Other: fascists and aliens. AKA, unredeemables (in the short term) and nonhumans. He was from WWII; while the full truth of the matter is that the USA did not join the war out of altruism and a wish to save oppressed peoples, I personally feel glad that the USA was able to help out in those matters. I feel our part in the war was justified when it came to stopping multiple genocides. Many people also feel this way, and hold WWII up as this bastion of ājustifiedā wars. Many feel itās okay that Americans went to Germany and Japan and started killing people, because they were doing it first.
Same thing with alien invasion storylines. I love Steve, but the only person he is MCU-canonically pursuing rehabilitation for is Bucky. He has different values as both a survivor of WWII, a witness to the explosive growth of fascism in the early 1900s, and a white man. Sure, Steve grew up disabled and Irish(-American) in the early 1900s, but he was also a blue eyed blond haired American man who shows no trace of an Irish identity on screen. Steve is a hopeful, principled and angry man.
Meanwhile, Sam grew up being othered as a Black child and then man, joined a war that was never justifiable (never confirmed what war he was in but no war the USA has perpetuated in the 2000s, if not even earlier, has been justifiable), and then continually had to be an examplar wherever he went. Except for possibly War Machine (Iām not sure where he fits in), Sam was the ONLY Avenger of Color. Ever. (And the only one from a more rural area)
And yet Sam always chooses hope and kindness. He has it rough - as the only Avenger of Color, he had to always choose others needs over his own. He and Isaiah Bradley (another person restored by Samās rehabilitative justice <3) discuss the weight of that. Bradley points out time and time again that Sam doesnāt owe the world his kindness, his willingness to be a hero, his health and well-being. After all, Bradley got fucked over for doing the right thing, a Steve-type thing, in a Black body. But Sam decides to push on anyway.
Iām not saying Sam isnāt angry. He deserves to feel angry, he has as much right to the emotion as any other human being. But every single goddamn time he can, he chooses to be kind. He chooses to believe that people can find worth again. And that takes a strength of will that is frankly insane. PLUS he does it without a consistently optimized body.
And he chooses to be kind to Ross, of all people. Ross, who is clearly trying to be a changed man in the events of the film - but still a man who imprisons innocents and whose first instinct is to pick fights with nations who own nuclear weapons.
But Sam still reaches out to him. Still helps Ross meet Betty while Ross is in prison. Is the better man, every goddamn time.
Hell, they even represent what changes Sam could herald for the fate of the United States, and even the world, visually. In Rossās panic as the Red Hulk, he destroys the White House*, a symbol built by slave labor. And under Samās tenure as Captain America, it will be rebuilt - along with what a hopefully better United States of America.
I love Sam Wilson, and I am SO excited to see his future as Captain America.
*and possibly also the Washington Memorial? I know he goes by but the detail slipped my mind. It also was built with slave labor. Some might quibble and try to claim that the obelisk was built by skilled stonemasons, but many many many enslaved people were extremely skilled laborers. So there is a huge chance that the stonemasons were enslaved. And even if they used completely white/free Black stonemasons, the quarried stone was mined by enslaved people. So yes, it was built by slave labor.
(Also I think itās cool that Samās getting his own villains like Serpent and Leila Taylor made an appearance? She was basically his only canon love interest EVER**, and she hasnāt appeared since the 1970s. I think itās still possible that he might be given a male LI or they just never pursue that angle of the character, but at least she and Sam have a relationship built on at least some respect and personal chemistry. Unlike Steven and Sharon.
Personally Iām more of a fan of Samsteve or even SamJoaquin than SamBucky, but thatās just mostly because while heās grown on me in the last few years, Iām not really a Bucky fan. Samsteve probably wonāt happen because of the stupid time travel thing (though whoās to say they didnāt at least have a fling? Plz?) but SamJoaquin could happen! I wasnāt sold on Joaquin right away - his sunny personality was tripping my betrayal alarms in my movie expectations brain - but I am glad to be wrong. Iām excited to see him as Falcon again once he heals up!
**There was a werewolf princess lady? But she literally never came back. Which disappoints me because I thought she was funny (I read her issue) and really unique. She was human but had a device to specifically control werewolves? And they do exist in the MCU, thanks to Werewolf by Nightā¦
I LOVED the dogfight scene. Great body work on Anthony Mackieās part, interesting background, awesome moves (cutting through a plane with a wing? Punching and pulling a pilot out of their plane and letting the rest of it just fall?? Sam and Joaquin together???) and fucking BOMBSURFING
#Captain America#Sam Wilson#MCU#anthony mackie#captain america brave new world#Captain America: brave new world#Cabnw#ca:bnw#also thereās one scene where Ross is getting infuriated by sterns and they actually use killer lighting and itās like whoa#someone used a little cinema and lighting knowledge here!#the cgi of the cherry blossoms was startlingly bad but I still really like this#also the flashing was really clever in connection to the advertisements?#Iām not epileptic but I get really annoyed by flashy lights like that unless Iām prepared#so I hadnāt really enjoyed the trailers for this film because of that?#but they were so plot relevant and werenāt *just* an eye catching tactic#so I really admire that advertising choic#I saw the 3D version so many the cherry blossom cgi was less bad in the normal version#in any case I hav#have a painting idea of Sam#it technically never happens during the fight so itād be *representational*#but heās hovering over Ross (human form) with his wings spread#sun behind his head and sparks and cherry blossom petals surrounding him#reaching a hand to Ross#itāll be titled#He is Not Icarus#because Sam can fly however high as he wants and will never sink down to your level#(you being villains general)#he will never fall#agh also Anthony Mackie has such a cute smile and I love his front gap. his cheeks draw up just so and AGH. so handsome#I think Iām getting sick so please excuse any grammar mistakes good night

Before Kant, an inquiry into "the nature and origin of knowledge" had been a search for privileged inner representations. With Kant, it became a search for the rules which the mind had set up for itself (the "Principles of the Pure Understanding"). This is one of the reasons why Kant was thought to have led us from nature to freedom. Instead of seeing ourselves as quasi-Newtonian machines, hoping to be compelled by the right inner entities and thus to function according to nature's design for us, Kant let us see ourselves as deciding (noumenally, and hence unconsciously) what nature was to be allowed to be like. Kant did not, however, free us from Locke's confusion between justification and causal explanation, the basic confusion contained in the idea of a "theory of knowledge."

can i also say? i was quite pleased hearing crucial pieces of dialogue in Spanish. and not just "someone taught me how to pronounce these lines for this movie" Spanish but, an actually recognizable accent with a natural cadence and all. Now I'm curious, was the Italian any good?
#with my elementary level knowledge of Italian I'd say it probably varied from one actor to the next BUT that that might also be intentional#the bar is truly on the floor with this kind of representation in movies but i was pleasantly surprised and even a little touched#it makes so much sense and it holds significance and symbolism in itself#the choice interacts with the story and i love that#i really need to rewatch this already lol#conclave 2024

my locked tomb hot take of the day is that the way Harrowās symptoms are presented in HtN line up much more closely with religious OCD with poor insight and psychotic features than schizophrenia. She shows almost no signs of paranoia or delusions (G1deon really was trying to kill her! Itās absolutely true that the other houses would swoop in like vultures if they knew her houseās true position! Her sword and psyche were both actually haunted, to the point that Alecto could hitch a ride in her body. She is never shown in the text to hold a belief that is inconsistent with reality, IMO) and her only true psychotic symptom that we see is hallucinations, and she seems to most of the time have some idea that they arenāt real, which indicates a level of self awareness incompatible with schizophrenia. She also doesnāt seem to display many cognitive symptoms like thought block or disorganized speech and thinking. The rest of her behavior is highly obsessive (compulsive praying, wearing face paint even when nobody is around, obsessive studying, needing her food to be arranged on her plate a certain way) and is very in line with someone suffering from religious scrupulosity. As someone who has experienced both OCD and psychosis, and knows how the symptoms can overlap, this is is the hill I will die on.
I don't feel like I can contribute in any meaningful way to your points, so I'll just put this out into the world and say that I appreciate your insights!
Speaking from a #meta perspective: I know that around the time HtN came out, Tamsyn gave interviews talking about her own experiences being hospitalised for mental health reasons and implied that was what she was partly drawing on when writing HtN. I can't remember if she called Harrow schizophrenic or stated that it was her intention to write her as such, and the author is dead anyway. Plus, obviously, the fact that someone's writing was informed by irl experiences doesn't have to mean that said writing is a 1:1 parallel for those experiences, expecially in a sff setting where ghosts exists and in fact there's something that Harrow can see and nobody else can.
TO ME, the fact that people who experience psychotic episodes can recognise themselves in Harrow's internal monologue and experiences is more meaningful than whether Harrow āreallyā has a given specific disorder or she's just seeing ghosts. The point is that SHE feels a disconnect from reality and that she's delusional and cannot trust anything she remembers or reads. Nobody in-universe is ever going to diagnose her, you know? The series itself doesn't claim to be straight-up representation for any specific named issues ā things like Cytherea's cancer or Harrow's mental state are left ambiguous and partly influenced by magic. I think the fact that readers can relate to some symptoms some characters experience is more meaningful than whether these symptoms all point to something that can be diagnosed unambiguously.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!
#I hope this makes sense! I have so many thoughts about hashtag representation in books#bc I think there's no unique way to portray a specific lived experience whether it's a marginalised identity or something else#even if the creator has a clear picture of what they want their character to be#even in those cases. people will relate to it who AREN'T part of the identities the creator conceived#and some people from those groups might not relate instead#to my knowledge TM hasn't specifically said harrow is schizophrenic although I could be very very wrong#but as always I don't believe authorial intention should be used as a gotcha#but also I think different interpretations can coexist just because we all bring our own baggage to how we interpret fictional characters#ask#tlt thoughts#harrow#elle tlt posting#lmk if I should tag for something

Idk why there's disbelief over Mark S/Helly in terms of motivation. Helly is just as capable of cruelty and selfishness as Helena. They are at the core of it, the same person with different memories/experiences. They can be two perspectives worthy of indulging their own dreams and desires and also be the same person. Narratively here especially, this isn't about morality, it's about human nature.
Helly was never cruel, sure, of course. Helly felt like she was the same as the other people in MDR. But Helly has something right now that she never even achieved as Helena. Someone who loves her. Someone who is choosing her. Helly is Winning over Helena here.
Jame Eagen wanders down just to be a freak and reinforces the reality of it. Helly is "More" than Helena, hasn't been worn down by the weight of experience and the world (and their cult and corporate bullshit). She still has, in some way, the innocence of youth and lack of experience with the world. She doesn't have the same fears and burdens or triggers as Helena in her conscious experience. She still has the ability to express her passions and outrage and defend herself. And to love and not feel sorry for it.
Severance gave Helena a chance to exist without the learned perspectives and burdens of the Eagens and she is able to be free with herself and her passions and desires-- whereas Helena was likely drained of any dreams for potential beyond a strictly guided future decades ago.
Of course Helly is feeling a rush of joy and satisfaction over Mark loving her. Mark choosing her. She tried to do the "right thing" by being logical with Mark. "I'm her." Even outside of Lumon, if they bring it all down, there's no hope for an Eagen and an ex-severed employee in reality. In the Real World they will never be together. Mark couldn't love Helena, how could anyone love an Eagen? (Poor Helly really with like, the enemy is within etc, but that's kinda the situation framed by Lumon for everyone by setting the stage with your Innie isn't human kinda rhetoric.) (This was also reinforced by Helena trying to get close to Mark to see if he still had feelings or chemistry with her and finding out they were not going to work outside Lumon.)
What if the equator is a building that could be a continent? Can be their whole world? They're choosing to live Now. Together in the present despite knowing that with their half lives, they could be brought to an end at any moment. It's very willful young love of them. And why wouldn't it be? This is their First Love. They haven't even been "alive" that long or have any memory of romance beyond their current infatuation. They don't know the world or it's places, and maybe that's okay, maybe they can exist in this space so long as they have love and the others.
It's completely human for Helly to accept Mark choosing her. To run to him just to see him for maybe the last time. It's human for Mark S to run to Helly. It's human for poor Gemma, who doesn't even know her fucking husband is severed, to be pounding on the door.
But this is their Final Day to Mark and Helly. Maybe the very end of their world. It's Judgement Day. Of course they'd have them holding hands and running back to the unknown to face the end together. To die together.
There is also zero fucking chance Mark Scout would risk his life and brain continuing reintegration once his wife is back. Mark Scout is going to choose his wife. Mark is choosing Love on both sides here.
All of it is reasonable.
#this is true for all the innie/outie combos like#lets not forget theyre the same person. yes they are also separate and deserve to be respected in their experiences#in my mind theres a post credit scene of Devon dragging Gemma to a car and them driving to a secure location bc I can't live otherwise#unfortunately the severed floor is literally their world. has been all this time. all they know by design.#anyway. selfishness is so normal to the human experience and motivation. survival. love. growth#im going to be thinking about platos cave allegory stuff now actually. ough#anyway its 3am and this is all i can thnnk about#personal q#severance spoilers#read more bc mindless brain ramble got long#i love all the characters in this show I hope hope hope Gemma gets a focus in S3#i actually loved the reintegration bits but narratively it would change some of the themes more at this time#theyd have had to make full reintegration the only way for mark to save gemma to make it happen#i need gemma to get so much therapy and care. lumon better not touch her ever again im really so serious#im going to be emotionally devastated ny Mark turning for months#good news fucking up cold harbor probably means that whatever fuckery Jame had planned for Helena/Helly is probably also fucked#could you imagine tho if we actually get fresh 'severed' personas for them if Lumon abducts them all to a compound somewhere#if s3 starts like Just Another Day in the Office I'll scream#I'm starting to wonder if this whole draining the tempers experiment thing#is about being able to provide them for others as a rejuvenation thing now actually aha just from writing this#i think using Helly Wasnt Cruel to try to contain her character is very infantilizing like theyre not children they're striped of knowledge#and of experience#this is all very is love stored in memory or the soul etc. do the people in the cave want to leave the cave when the shadows on the wall ar#the only representation of reality they've ever known#this show is just like art/literaty analysis of themes its so pretty and tragic and terrible#severance#sorry added for the mutuals who dont need to see my taste in tv on my supposed gaming blog#idk a lot of this season was also helly spreading the concept of division from outie persona stuff which makes sense for her#but then getting to look back at gemma and see maybe an outie as a person etc too like. ough

Anyway, I'd like to say: qRoier is a little bigger than qCellbit and I'm not talking about heights, I'm talking about muscles.
I know qCell was a killer and has been in prison but imagine if in those years of therapy, after the escape, he didn't train as much anymore.
That would mean he's now a bit more lean than qRo.
Not by much, he still knows how to fight and has the strength to do so, he's just more focused on solving enigmas and that means he's not as focused on being the strongest as he was in Alcatraz.
And it makes sense in my brain because qRoier is really good in PvP and is stronger than qCellbit from what I can gather.
Maybe qCellbit is some centimeters more taller than qRoier and knows how to solve puzzles quickly but his husband just squashes him if we compare strengths.
#qsmp#qsmp cellbit#qcellbit#spiderbit#qsmp roier#qroier#guapoduo#im desperate for these kinds of representations tbh#i can't see the knowledge guy being more mamado than the blood guy who happens to be extremely good at PvP#and also a tryhard#just... take my stupid opinion i needed it out of my brain

The seventeenth century gave skepticism a new lease on life because of its epistemology, not its philosophy of mind. Any theory which views knowledge as accuracy of representation, and which holds that certainty can only be rationally had about representations, will make skepticism inevitable.

Everyone Loooves to think of what a fourth spatial dimension would look like. But no one wants to imagine a second temporal dimension. Why not make an inverse of reality? Why don't people want to imagine a world that has one spatial dimension and three temporal dimensions. Imagine it NOW.
Why not have an order three of dimensions, instead of having just an order two. IE: temporal dimensions, spatial dimensions and a secret third, more Eldritch dimension.
Why stop there, why don't we create a world where time is literally a circle (or more accurately, a cosine wave). As one goes through the day, things seem to get faster and faster until noon. After noon it seems like everything is getting slower, then at midnight time slows down so much, that everything seems perfectly still. Now everything is going back in time, still slowly though. It's noon again, but this time you are going backwards rather than forwards. In this world would it even be possible to tell when time is running forwards rather than backwards?
