For fun, it's a headcanon shared universe that I can see or put together consisting of movies/shows/video games.

They're all different from each other but the one thing that connects them all is the reoccurring theme of very, very, very, very, VERY unconventional protagonists and ensembles not just fighting the odds but facing the highest stakes there ever was possible.

As you can see, it includes Breaking Bad, Sons Of Anarchy, Attack On Titan (at least the first two seasons of the anime), Krampus, Wrath Of Man and Wildwood but there's obviously going to be way more to it than those. Those are just too give an example of what I'm talking about, what I mean or what I'm going for with this.

Obviously, I don't want to be pigeonholed into any specific or certain genre so the theme allows for more exploration cause that's part of the fun, what does everything have to be super similar to each other, come on, this is awesome.

And yes, of course there's no crossing over. I just can see them being in the same universe as a fun throughline just to think about again for the hell of it.

N/A: Meh, I want to do this story. Why? why not? My motto now. Oh, inspired by a nice art I saw on tumblr.

"So, can you refresh to me why we´re doing this?" Kitty asked sitting at the top of the sled donning herself with traditional elf clothes- a green dress that shows more of her legs than she is willing to admit and a pointy hat covering her normal ears nicely-puffing and pouting as Krampus aka Kurt is holding a comically long list one last time.

Kurt decides to humor Kitty in her little question. "Should I start an obvious conversation with, as you know?" Kurt asked flashing an enchanting smile-which considering who and what Kurt is, may not be just a euphemism- and Kitty rolls her eyes in good humor, which for a cat person like Kitty is really not that rare.

"Santa Claus just discovered his son is now his daughter....and he is in shocked he never realizes how his daughter was needing help and support" Kurt explains putting one last bag on the sled.

"You know, if you can know if kids are being good or naughty but can realize your daughter is needing support...this affects him as a father" Kurt states calmly. "Yes, he has many kids. Women and men and all spectrum of sexuality are loved by him...through his older brother would strongly disagree" Kurt´s gaze falls on Kitty now. "Claus comes from a family that is not very supportive and the man did vow to do better"

Kitty cock one eyebrow. "Sure, but this is about his daughter, not his ego" Kitty can´t defend nor judge Claus, per se, but Kitty is a cat person, therefore, she feels she has some freedom to do so.

Kurt inhales as the reindeer's are in position- they were bickering and flying around until Kurt´s eyes land on their horns, no one likes an angry Krampus- "This is about his daughter hence why he asked me to cover Christmas for this year...I´m not sure if he can make up with his daughter or what will happen, all I can say is...our work will be double and he wons me big time"

And before Kitty could even say something else. "Yes, Claus owns you big time too"

Kitty looks at her outfit one last time. "I´m wearing something worth of a pin-up. Why?"

"All elves wear this"

"All elves?"

"ALL ELVES"

Kitty relives hows Santa Claus literally fucks with anything willingly and wants to stray from that thought. "Ok, but won´t I be a block of ice?"

"Not really, while the outfit does shows your legs...and I´m looking respectfully, it´s also charmed to protect you from cold and heat" Kurt answer and Kitty nods relived.

"Well, I´m a bit nervous...what I´m supposed to do exactly?" Kitty never celebrated Christmas and all Hallmark movies make seem that two white people will share a passionate kiss on Christmas eve that will solve all their problems. It was really strange for her.

"Two things. I need you to open the door for me, NO I´LL NOT SLEDE THROUGH CHIMNEY AGAIN" Kurt clears his throat as Kitty tries not to giggle. "And I need you to put the bells to the naughty children and others gifs...we´re working double, Katzchen"

Kitty nods again. She can be an efficient postwoman. She makes a small salute gesture and sat back as Kurt is in the sled.

"Hey, can we eat the cookies and milk?" Kitty asked curiously now.

"I´ll eat if I saw it....I promise you that"

The reindeers are waiting for the command of their masters. It would have been such a cute scene if it wasn´t for two details. Kurt is in his Krampus form-Kitty doesn´t think he loses his usual attractiveness but no one is ready to Kitty admitting she thinks Krampus´s form hot- and second...and most important...

The reindeers are far from cute. No, the reindeers are demonic beings with red shot eyes, teeth cable of render flesh-in fact one of them was eating a mysterious type of meat- and both are dark as the pure darkness.

"Hum, one last question, Kurt, my dear elf," Kitty said looking unsure for the reindeers who are passively waiting. She whispers in his ear-afraid the reindeers could listen- "Are they supposed to look like that?"

"Yes, the Marketing and RH change their looks for promotions and things like that but Santa´s reindeers come from hell...it was a present from Odin" Kurt states amused.

"I thought he was Odin"

"There´s two Odins. One is a God, the other is an alien. One is a bad father...the other tries to be better"

"Ok, got it" Kitty promises and looks at the creatures- they´re now howling like is no big deal, shrieking as could break the barrier of sound- "what?"

"Nothing, just demonic reindeers being demonic!"

The sled flies away and Kitty swears she saw the creatures´ eyes resemble a strange hungriness- fat, blood tears fall from the creatures- and Kitty is so thankful she is Jewish.

"Wait, wait...won´t people be afraid if..."

"Fret not, katzchen, you´re the only one who can see them in their natural form"

"...Great"

Meanwhile, Jubilee and Bobby were talking about their project when Bobby points to the sky. "Jubs, look, It´s Santa´s sled!"

Jubilee looks up to see the sled and the cute reindeers and is bemused. "Meh, we don´t celebrate Christmas but is cool to see cute flying reeinders"

Bobby agrees and they resume their conversation.

The Christmas Chronicles (2018)

What an effective horror movie.  Jolly Old Saint Nick himself is introduced like one of the aliens in Signs, his arm darting momentarily out of the edge of the frame of a camcorder video.  He leaps from rooftop to rooftop, a swirling mass moving too fast to escape, his shadowy figure looking over at the children cowering in his sleigh.  His influence is inescapable, as the last time he was unable to deliver all of his gifts the world plunged into the chaos and strife of the Dark Ages.  Later on Santa’s helpers are given a similarly sinister introduction, the terrifying entities (allegedly elves) rushing towards a helpless little girl as she videotapes them Blair Witch Project style, filling the frame.  This comes immediately after Kate plummeted into an endless abyss of gifts, a space where Euclidian geometry and the laws of space and time have no meaning.  The elves overwhelm a group of hardened Chicago,  and form an impromptu paratrooper squad, descending on an unsuspecting town as the people below sleep innocently.  After a night of chaos and terror, the children are home, alive but forever changed.  They’ve survived.  But Santa has one more twist of the knife for them: he’s trapped the soul of their dead father in a Christmas ornament.  Harrowing.

the boys and christmas

this is such a cute request!! these will all be based on christmas traditions that i've experienced, so i apologize if this is all very american. all of the boys are included so this can be read either platonically or romantically with the exception of kurt, whose part is to be read in a strictly platonic light.

Lucia

❧ he for sure throws a holiday party at his place, and it's got everything like an ugly sweater contest which no one participates in and snowball fights and a scrumptious dinner

❧ he's incredibly festive too, like his halls are absolutely decked out with tinsel and lights and paper snowflakes

❧ absolutely hangs mistletoe, he puts one in every doorway, what a menace. he gets stuck under it with mikael, who promptly tries to push his face away

❧ he for sure gets down to mariah carey's "all i want for christmas," i don't make the rules

❧ loves candy canes and peppermint bark and anything peppermint really because they're red and match him

❧ he wakes up early, a little after kurt, and they wake everyone up like little kids

❧ he actually gets people meaningful gifts that are all intricately thought out and sentimental and everyone is lowkey surprised they didn't just get gag gifts or underwear from him he got those for everyone too tho shh

❧ his favorite part about the holidays is getting to spend time and goof around with his brothers again like they used to

❧ ngl he gives off scrooge vibes but it's just what he shows on the surface; his eyes give away that he loves the magic of christmas

❧ he's woken up too early for his liking by lucia who literally jumps on top of him and knocks all the wind out of him. once he gets his breath back, levy proceeds to chase lucia around his room and down the hall, threatening to beat him with a pillow

❧ he's lowkey hard to buy for but if you wanna win him over, buy him books; you've really got him happy if they're like some rare, antique books that you found wedged in the back of a shelf in a random, hole-in-the-wall bookstore

❧ he gets really awkward opening presents in front of everyone tho because they just kind of stare at you, expecting a good reaction, and then it's all over so quick

❧ his favorite thing about the holidays is the lights, he thinks they're so calming and pretty, especially when they reflect off the snow. he also loves how creative people are with light shows

❧ he's on the naughty list. there's absolutely no debating this. but he doesn't get coal in his stocking or anything, no one would allow that

❧ the pranking and menace behavior doesn't stop just because it's christmas. he's putting coal in lucia's stocking, he's threatening levy with the elf on the shelf just to scare him, he takes a singular gumdrop off of people's gingerbread houses just to mess with them

❧ he hates carolers, if any come up to the mansion somehow he'll scare them off or straight up shut the door in their faces

❧ his favorite holiday movie is how the grinch stole christmas, any of the versions really but especially the jim carrey version; he just really vibes with the grinch

❧ please no one tell him about krampus, he'd for sure find ways to mess with people with that

❧ lucia forces him to coordinate with him since they're the christmas colors, he hates it and refuses to wear the ugly sweaters lucia produces for him to put on

❧ absolutely disgusted by fruitcake and figgy pudding; he acts like the things are radioactive or something

❧ his favorite thing about the holidays is how magical it all seems with the snow and the lights and the peacefulness, it's so calming to him

Oswald

❧ it might just be me projecting, but this man radiates knitwear vibes, but in the cottagecore way. i'm talking handmade sweaters and mittens and scarves and hats

❧ he takes kurt sledding, they find the biggest hill and off they go. and, if he so wishes, oswald will pull kurt's sled around really fast, he likes seeing kurt have fun like a regular kid

❧ would go ice skating but the poor man is afraid he's going to break the ice and fall in or something

❧ he gets everyone really meaningful and useful gifts, probably all homemade or made by a local small business, like hand bound notebooks or fancy engraved fountain pens with organic ink

❧ don't ask me why, but i just feel like he would gift noel a really cozy knit sweater or maybe a nifty handmade necklace with a cool crystal

❧ he probably likes watching it's a wonderful life, it's a nice feel good movie

❧ he drinks too much eggnog, he thinks it's so tasty, but eventually he crashes cuz it makes him sleepy

❧ his favorite part of the holiday is either all the pretty seasonal flowers, or the symbolic rebirth and purity of that time of the year; it makes him feel hopeful for the future and especially grateful for what he has

Kaim

❧ poor man is the one doing all the work, setting up everything for lucia's party and overseeing the dinner preparations and making sure everything looks nice and in order

❧ my neighbors do this, but i feel like he'd get two trees: one nicely decorated and fancy tree for the front of the house to put by a window, and another tree for the main "family" area that can be decorated however the brothers want

❧ i know his thing is tea, but i feel like he could get down with all seasonal drinks like peppermint tea and peppermint mochas and hot chocolate and eggnog

❧ he makes really fancy hot chocolate, like the ones with the chocolate balls that you put in hot milk and they melt open and marshmallows pop out

❧ he likes watching everyone's inner child come out; it makes him happy to see the brothers get along and kurt run around and be a kid

❧ he might seem like he doesn't appreciate the gifts he gets, but he really does. he views himself as just a butler, so seeing that people spent time finding something for him? it makes him feel appreciated

❧ his favorite part of the holidays is probably the music, especially bell choirs; he likes the magical vibes of christmas music

Mikael

❧ to me he just gives bah humbug vibes, but in reality he really likes the holiday season

❧ he's not a huge fan of cold weather but he loves it when there's a white christmas, he thinks it's so pretty and pure

❧ to me he just embodies the peaceful, silent night, untouched snow illuminated by streetlights, christmas eve vibe of the holidays, ya feel?

❧ he also loves how there's less daylight at least in the northern hemisphere which means he can stargaze more; he thinks it's cool how the christmas lights look like stars

❧ he doesn't give anyone gifts. is it because he forgot or because he just didn't want to? we'll never know for sure. however, he does make sure everyone gets enough food and something yummy to drink throughout the day

❧ he gets a few gag gifts from lucia and ricardo, and he makes a show about how much of a waste it was for them to get him those awful gifts, but he secretly keeps them all in a box that's hidden in the back of his closet

❧ he also receives a gift from noel, only it's something he'll actually like and use on the regular like a new tea cup or a fancy pen

❧ he actually enjoys fruitcake, but thinks peppermint is too spicy

Ricardo

❧ he's on the same level as lucia in terms of acting like a child on christmas

❧ he demands that everyone is to give him at least one gift, but in return he gives people the worst gifts ever

❧ such a menace at holiday parties: he tires to get everyone under the mistletoe, he spikes the eggnog, he initiates several snowball fights, he throws balls of wrapping paper at people, he kicks over people's snowmen

❧ another one to never tell about krampus, he can and will scare the children

❧ absolutely disgusted by fruitcake and figgy pudding, and is subsequently appalled when he finds mikael on his fourth slice of fruit cake since the party started like an hour ago

❧ absolutely loves the nightmare before christmas, totally gets down with the gothy edgy vibes. would probably also like jim carrey's how the grinch stole christmas

❧ he enjoys rock covers of christmas songs the best, but you can also catch him lip syncing to mariah in the corner of the room pst here's my christmas playlist :)

❧ his favorite part of the holiday is definitely the presents. he enjoys it when people give him things and he also likes tearing up the wrapping paper and throwing it at people

❧ y'all this is his season, like he's literally named after the holiday?? and it's close to his birthday?? make him feel special on christmas pls

❧ he probably gets really confused the first time he hears the first noel song and probably needs to have it explained to him

❧ this man is an absolute fiend for hot chocolate and peppermint bark and christmas crack and literally every other holiday sweet. you just made some gingerbread cookies? half of them are gone immediately after they are cool enough to be eaten

❧ he genuinely doesn't want anything as a gift, but he won't ever get rid of anything that was gifted to him

❧ he probably wouldn't be a big fan of being out in the snow because of how he was found, but he can appreciate how pretty it is

❧ again with the food thing, but if there's a dinner being prepared or treats being baked he will not leave the kitchen at all. keep an eye on him please so there's still food for everyone else at the party

❧ he thinks the elf on the shelf is genuine so he always glares at it because it must be watching mikael too, and without his permission?? how dare it. he also threatens ricardo with it, like "do as mikael says; the elf is watching"

❧ his favorite part about the holiday season is getting to curl up in front of the fire, all bundled up in blankets and a sweater, sipping on a nice mug of hot chocolate

❧ he gives off the same vibes as mikael when it comes to christmas, only instead of the all white aesthetic, lucas' is the golden side of it all, like the stars and the nice yellow lights and the golden ornaments

If you’re looking for some Christmas specials to look out for, I recommend the Christmas Chronicles movies on Netflix.

It has Kurt Russel as Santa and has some references to other Christmas folklore like Belanickel (a less scary Krampus from my research) and the Yule Cat with a name I’m not even gonna attempt to pronounce who’d eat lazy children.

Some favorites include: Home Alone, the Polar Express, Love Actually (has its problems but it’s a classic), the Grinch, Elf, A Christmas Story, I try to catch Frosty the Snowman/Charlie Brown/Rudolph when they air on tv. Also if you’re lazy, you can watch the Harry Potter Christmas scenes on Youtube just to skip the rest of the year.

TV Episodes I like to go back for: Leverage’s The Ho Ho Ho Job and Pushing Daisies’ Corpsicle.

Some new favorites: the Christmas Chronicles (that’s the one with the disturbingly hot Kurt Russell Santa), the Spirit of Christmas, and Die Hard. 

Then there’s Rare Exports, a Finnish offering that’s kind of suspenseful/scary where Santa/Krampus and his Elves are after the kids with nefarious intentions. It’s kinda bad/silly but in a earnest way. I love it and you just can’t beat the epic scene where dozens of old guys are running naked through the snow, dicks a-flopping in the icy wind. This movie really Did That. I think it’s still on American Hulu rn.

I generally find that Hallmark/Lifetime/even Netflix sadly don’t really do my favorite tropes justice. That’s for romance novels and fanfiction. I love so many of the usual tropes like ‘Oh no, we’re snowed in and there’s only one bed!’, dumbasses who are in lust/love with each other but think its unrequited who end up kissing under the mistletoe or making out at a holiday party of some sort, spending hours in an airport trying to get home for the holidays and basically it turns into a date, fake dating to get family/friends off their backs, neighbors in an apt bldg where one loves holiday music and baking and the other is grumpy about it all....

my family turned on Christmas Chronicles on Netflix, the Kurt Russel santa one, and honestly I gotta tell you that I refuse to watch it because fuck new Christmas movies [only valid one this decade was Krampus because it was a horror comedy] however in only 3 minutes I saw the best written older brother character in any shitty feel-good movie in my entire life. that's exactly the definition of jerk with a heart of gold that is the older brother, not this fucking borderline sociopathic pure assholery that everything else has seemed to try to push for the past several decades now

There´s an old saying, perhaps not as old as people made out to be, where it goes more or less like this- interpretations may vary and change a word or two- "love conquers all" and is the pure expression of the truth ever since Jean Grey and Scott Summers´s marriage change the course of history forever. Mutants are no longer seen as a threat and there´s no more social prejudice against mutants.

Is this heaven? Far from it. Mutants and Humans are the same sides of the coin- there´re mutants cable of doing more damage than a human can dream and of course, there´re humans that can respond to such violence with the same requiem - and Kitty Pryde is the one living this new reality among all the mutants of the second generation.

I saw the worse.

I saw the good.

And now I´m drifting meaninglessly.

Her body sludge down on the chair. Letting her foot touch the downy floor while the clock ticks and tack a loud sound- her eyes travel towards all the points in the waiting room. From the receptionist doing her work to the big closed door- and Kitty Pryde can see her reflection on the only mirror present. She was never one to put fashion above all, not even in such a situation. Wearing just a white shirt, short jeans and a yellow jacket wide open.

Then her land on the few magazines on display. Different magazines. Same story. Jean and Scott´s wedding was a fantastic story, but, sadly it has one unhappy ending. A man bursting into the church to confess his love for Jean Grey- Jubilee and Kitty was sure Logan would be the one to cause such scene- it was Prof X declaring his undying love for Jean Grey. It is still a nice gossip.

“When a father lusts over his son´s girlfriend” Kitty reads one of the main topics of the magazine. Repugnance is clear in her face and body language.

Another magazine has images of Prof X after his confession and even promised an exclusive interview with the man to explain himself. Kitty rolls her eyes at that- she reminisces when Bobby asks her to come to the wedding as his plus one. His boyfriend and he break up before the big day and Bobby didn´t want to go alone. And they only talk about Prof X and his revelation. The man was in love with a woman he raises since she was a kid- her cellphone rings softly. And has a message from her friends.

The receptionist has red hair. Too similar to her ex- Kitty meets Rachel Grey by accident. She was from a group called Excalibur. The relationship lasts a few months until Rachel and her group leave. Looking back. it was for the best-She recalls vividly an alternative version of herself who was looking at the relationship with confusion. And looking back again, Kitty can see why- and the woman is now looking at her. Was she always a red hair or is her succubus power kicking in? "Santa called...you can enter now, Miss Pryde" and the sultry smile is a tad similar to her ex. A tad bit only.

"Thanks" Kitty shurgs off and goes without looking back. If the succubus receptionist looks at Kitty going or not is her problem now.

Kitty is Jewish. She has fond memories of her Hannukahs - uncle Tim bring a new dog he rescued from families who think dogs are toys or aunt Moira and her many good whiskeys- and yet, in all her past Hannukahs there was never a period where her family thought about Santa. Not for a single second. So, of course, Kitty is looking at the real Santa right now.

The popular version of Santa is a fat man with red clothes and a big beard- Yana jokes how Santa could be communist too-and yet, the reality is far from different. Tumblr has a word for this type of Santa, but, Kitty refuses to use it. So, Kitty can summarize by saying: yep, he´s handsome.

"Ah, you must be Miss Pryde, da" his accent is a mixture of Russian and English. Somewhat similar to Yana´s accent. Kitty nods. "Excellent, I´m sorry for the waiting. We´re dealing with a problem...all taken care" and gesture to Kitty sit as the other one will be here to interview her in a minute. "Galaticus usually don´t indicate anyone to this job"

"But he puts adds on the newspaper asking for Heralds" Kitty counters back and Santa didn´t deny that.

"He does that. He even accepts Deadpool as his Herald...don´t ask me why." he shakes his head at this information. "now, tell me about you, Miss Pryde...Galaticus only told us you´re good fitting for the job"

"A job as vague as possible" she arches an eyebrow. "And I´m unemployed at the moment." she pauses and adds. "I´m Jewish"

"If you think this will be a problem or that we only work with Christians families. You´re wrong. I work on any holiday that celebrates the family and love. Any family can receive me if they so wish, I have visited some Hannukahs in my past, I was denied in some Christian families and so and on. Krampus, my friend, is not a racist or believes in ''the old ways'' in fact, he hates the old ways more than you think" Santa states calmly and speaks something in a new language to something or someone way behind Kitty.

"There´s the devil!" Satan states all joyful causing Kitty to turn her head and see the so-called Krampus. A handsome indigo man. Golden eyes. and a tail throwing a winning smile at her. "Krampus, this is Kitty. Kitty this is Krampus. You´ll be his secretary...if he agrees" and the man kissed her hand-a bit old fashioned. Kitty didn´t hide her confusion- and both are now alone to conduct the interview.

"Galaticus indicate you" his tone is joyful. Does he want Kitty to forget this is an interview? "Do you know what a Krampus is?" and Kitty closes her eyes hard and starts to mull the word for a moment.

I know I heard this name somewhere.

"Ok, I got it. You have no idea what am I" hos tone is amused and Kitty opens her eyes to see Kurt smiling like a cat. "Do you know what this job is?" and now she´s losing her patience.

"No, of course not, Galaticus comes into my room and says" Kitty pauses to mimic his voice. "Go to Santa. They have a job for you. And then he vanished. I had no idea what this job is about and no one is telling me anything. I don´t even celebrate Christmas" Kitty finishes her rants. Krampus is still too amused.

"My bad then, for starts, I deal with naughty mortals, so to speak" Kitty is listening. "Your job, if you accept, is to help me organize things. I´m terrible with names and numbers. And Santa´s elves can help me so far...of course, you´ll be compensated by your work. Here the initial idea for your salary" and Kitty is more than surprised. Is not a big number nor a smaller. It is acceptable for now. "and we´ll offer you some magic compensations to do some of the jobs. I mean, I´ll need someone to deliver messages to others deities and I know you don´t have teleportation" Krampus conclude waiting for her reply.

Kitty mulls over for 2 minutes. "Will I have to work all day and night?"

"Of course not. We all have lives. And the weekends are yours to do what you want!"

"If I give you my name..." and now Krampus chuckles.

"I´m not a regular fae. I can give you my name if it makes you feel at peace" and Kitty is surprised by this revelation. "my name is Kurt Wagner"

"I´m not sure if I´ll want to do this for a long period" Kitty begins and Kurt states that she needs to fill 6 months of work after that she´s free. "So, I´m willing to give a chance"

And with a snap of his fingers a pink fae- she calls herself pixie- shows up having in hands a contract in her hands ready for Kitty and Kurt to sign. Kitty read the contract - some laws are protecting her. As well as a law of discretion. Kitty can´t tell anyone what happens in Krampus´s working hour-and Kitty signal the contract.

"Welcome aboard, Katzchen. Hope you can survive the experience"

John is home on leave from the Marines and Clarice is home on winter break from grad school. While they used to date in high school, Clarice and John haven't been together in a long time... But it's Christmas time, and it seems like everything and everyone in their small, holiday-obsessed hometown is trying to get them back together. Modern Thunderblink AU!

"Stay still for five seconds, Riles."

Clarice glanced over at John, who was trying to wrangle a wriggly Riley into her winter gear. The kid was so tired she was actually in an energetic mood, so she was making things difficult by moving around and talking to anyone who walked by and trying to practice her Tiny Tim hobble. Clarice had to bite down on a smile as John tried to put Riley's hat on her and missed as she swooped under his arm and toward James, who was standing nearby.

"She's being so silly," Norah said. Unlike Riley, she was sitting on the edge of the stage, coat on and ready to go.

"No kidding," Clarice said, raising an eyebrow as James swiped up Riley and literally tossed her to John. Clarice sucked in a breath but quickly remembered this was just how they were and Riley liked being thrown around like that. She shouldn't be worried, it wasn't as if either of them would ever drop Riley. Still, her eyes followed the seven-year-old as John tossed her into the air twice, making her shriek with giggles.

He caught her and set her on the ground, rapidly plunking her hat down on her head and then holding her in place with his hands on her shoulders. "Calm down, kiddo."

"I can't help it, I gotta run," Riley said, trying to pull away but John had a firm hold on her. She sighed and slumped back against his legs, looking over at Clarice. "Claaarice, make him let go."

Clarice shook her head. "No can do." Not anymore, at least. She had a feeling that Riley sometimes forgot that Clarice and John weren't actually dating anymore. They weren't enemies or anything, they just weren't…things weren't the same. But they had dated some in high school and a year after that, and Riley probably just thought of them that way.

"Are we still going to drive by the lights?" Riley asked, craning her head back to look up at John. "You said maybe we could."

"I said if it wasn't too late, and it's already nine."

"It's like four hours past your bed time," James said, his hands in the pockets of his hoodie. Ali had already left with one of her other friends, so now he had time to spend with the rest of them. Fancy that.

Riley made a face. "Is not, I don't go to bed that early."

"Aunt Evelyn changed your bedtime," James said, "You go to bed at sunset now."

"Do not!"

"She told me, it's the truth. When the sun goes down, you go to bed, so it's way past your bedtime."

Riley made a wild attempt to push James, but she couldn't get away from John. "She did not tell you that!"

"Did so."

"Not!"

"So."

John sighed. "James…"

"Oh my gosh, you're both acting like preschoolers," Clarice said, rolling her eyes at James, who looked very pleased at aggravating Riley. "I think we could go past the lights on the way home, if that's okay with the driver?" She looked over at John and raised an eyebrow.

He nodded. "I think we could do that if someone would chill out just a little bit." He gently squeezed Riley's shoulders and she made a whiny noise. "Agreed?"

"Yeaaaah," Riley said, raising her shoulders and nodding.

John squeezed her shoulders again and then let her go so she could dash over to Norah. The two of them headed off down the theater aisle toward the back doors, James following after them so they wouldn't get into too much trouble. Clarice stuck her hands in her pockets and looked over at Kurt.

"Hey, we're heading out," she said, interrupting his conversation with one of the other actors, "You've got our numbers, right?"

"I think so, unless you changed them," Kurt said with a grin. "Which wouldn't do without telling me, of course?"

"Of course not," Clarice said, rolling her eyes. The fact that she had somehow kept the same phone number all these years was a bit of a miracle.

"You guys have a good night," Kurt said, giving a little wave, "Don't get into too much trouble."

"Because there's so much trouble to get into in Westchester," Clarice said, "We'll just go climb the water tower or something."

A half-smile darted across John's face as they walked up the aisle side by side, their elbows carefully not brushing. "You still remember that?"

Clarice smirked. "I moved away, I didn't have my memory wiped," she said, hoping it came across more as teasing than snarky. But judging by the quick flash of uncertainty that crossed John's face, it hadn't entirely worked. She quickly backtracked. "It's still one of my favorite memories."

John's eyebrow shot up. "We got arrested."

"But it was worth it."

That got a reluctant laugh out of him. "I had community service for two months!"

"You worked at the wildlife center, it wasn't like you hated it," she said, "Remember that hawk that tried to adopt you?"

"Terrence? Yeah, I think he still lives in the woods around here."

Clarice started pulling on her gloves, getting ready for the explosion of winter outside. There were at least a many old memories they had together, gathered from years spent as friends and then something more. She still remembered way back when she first met him, that shaggy-haired ten-year-old boy who didn't have a bike and always frowned. He had been sitting on his aunt's front porch, having gotten sent outside after breaking a lamp inside. Clarice and Marcos had ridden up on their bikes and Marcos had offered to steal his brother's bike for John and the rest was history.

"Hold on." John reached past her as they stepped up to the door, his fingers resting on the worn wood, keeping it closed. He looked down at her, his brown eyes full of sincerity, his gaze searching hers. "Are you really okay with this?"

"With the lights? Yeah, it's not a problem." She pulled her toboggan on her head and shrugged. "I wanted to see them anyways."

"That's not…no, I meant the play. The parts we have." He shifted, looking uncomfortable, and he sucked a breath in through his teeth. "The whole married thing."

A shiver went down Clarice's spine because once upon a time, this wouldn't have been a big deal. Actually, once upon a time, she would've assumed she would have been married to John Proudstar by this point. But that was her eighteen-year-old self, who hadn't known anything about the world except a tiny town and a little community. And she had been the one to break things off, thinking the distance would be too much, that it was too much when they were both young…

"It's just a play," she said, trying to be nonchalant, "It's not a big deal, right? And we're doing it for the kids."

"Right." John smiled, but she knew it was forced. Had she said something wrong? Had she…was that the wrong thing to say? Sometimes it was so easy to be around him, like no time had passed, and other times the tension was thick and awkward between them.

"Are you okay with it?" she asked.

"Yeah, no, it's fine. Except I'm going to completely ruin it," he said, making a face, "I'm not exactly an actor."

"I think you'll manage." Clarice reached up and grabbed his hood, flipping it up over his head. "Don't want your ears to get cold."

"Thanks," he said, his eyes lingering on hers. After a long moment, he shifted his hand and opened the door for her. She slipped out past him and was instantly grabbed by Riley and Norah. Riley bounced on the balls of her feet while Norah simply tugged Clarice down the path toward the truck.

"We have to go down Carter Street," Norah said, "It's sort of on the way, and they have the best lights this year."

"That's just 'cause our street isn't finished decorating yet," Riley said, "We'll beat 'em."

Clarice shook her head. "I wonder how much money this town shells out in electricity bills this time of year."

"Bazillions of dollars," Riley said in a serious tone, "Like kajillions."

"Wow, that's so much money," Clarice said with a grin.

Behind them, James must have said something that John disagreed with because John grabbed his younger brother and put him in a quick headlock. James was laughing, so it wasn't like it was serious fight. Besides, wrestling was sort of just a thing between them. Clarice had seen Riley try to join in before, and it was cute seeing two powerhouses being super careful yet still trying to make it seem like she was wrestling, too.

James fought back, but John had a good grip on him, and he couldn't get free. They scuffled a little while longer until John dropped James into a bush and caught up with the rest of them.

"So Carter Street," John said as if he hadn't missed a beat, "We could do that."

"And that road with the sleigh? The big one?" Riley grinned, mischief in her brown eyes.

John shook his head. "Just Carter Street." When Riley started to pout, he arched an eyebrow. "You do actually have a bedtime, remember."

She crossed her arms with a huff and marched ahead of the others. "Fine…"

Carter Street wound up being even more over the top than Clarice remembered. She pressed a hand to the window, an incredulous laugh escaping her, as they drove past a yard with an entire Santa Claus vs. Krampus scene out front. "That's just…so extra."

"Right?" James said, rolling his eyes, "Paul is actually proud of it. It's his dad's house, he's the football coach."

"Do the elves have a papier-mâché cannon?" Clarice asked.

"I think it's plastic," John said.

"It's wooden," James said.

Clarice sat back in her seat as they rolled slowly down the street, the girls in the backseat chattering away across James. Some things in Westchester never changed, like the Christmas light displays and knowing that practically everyone in the town knew each other. She looked over at John, who was grinning, the colorful lights casting a glow across his face. Their hands were both on the console but they were carefully not touching. Her favorite stations weren't saved on the radio. She wasn't wearing his jacket and he wasn't wearing her scarf.

Some things stayed the same. Others changed.

guys i just started thinking about kurt on christmas and how, considering his religion and how he’s german plus his devilish good looks, he probably loves dressing as krampus and playing jokes on people and scaring them but he’s also probably lowkey sad cuz he just wants to make people happy!! and maybe his thing in the xmansion is being krampus but one year he’s getting ready and someone else is dressed as krampus and kurt is like oh no!! that’s my thing!! and everyone’s like wait! we still need a santa!! and kurt is like oh my image inducer!! and they’re like no kurt just ur regular face is great for the job and he !!!!
