Yet another attempt to implement the pairing into the movie, and this is definitely the last one. This part takes place before the Krusty Krab 2 ceremony and after SpongeBob sees Plankton. I realized that it needed a moment at the beginning between the two, so that people could be convinced that he had a thing for her without coming out of nowhere, hinting at the beginning while showcasing a bit of their chemistry before the later scenes confirmed what we were suspecting all along. Also, gotta add a little more screentime for characters like Pearl, Larry and Ms. Puff, who all had less than 3 scenes, while Larry never talked. At least in here, he has a line.That's all the Sandy scenes in the first movie if I imagined how she had more screentime.

I need your opinions on how I handled her additional screentimes (See the movie in the way that it's meant to be the last thing SpongeBob produced with no additionnal seasons and it takes place at the end of the timeline).

So let's just say that the movie really is the last thing that come on our screen, and there is no post-movie seasons, movies or spin-offs, and this scene is real and is shown.

Age and Post-forgor

Spongebob (29) becomes the manager of Krusty Krab 2 and is happily still serving satisfied customers the way he always has done. He still finds time to hang out with his friends and unintentionally annoy Squidward while working on his driver's license, still.

Danny (22) continues to be the hero he is for both races, protecting humans from troubled ghosts, which he'll help them out as peacefully as he can. He may or may not have a position saved on the throne in the ghost zone.

Jimmy (19) refuses to serve the government with his inventions and only accepts deals from organizations who truly intend to preserve and improve the world with his help. Sometimes he does freelancing by providing assistance with his works to anyone who may reach out to him through his family and friend's connections.

ok listen. my vision regarding the opposite main timeline:

- the kit or whatever that became Karen was ordered online by a young Sandy. THEY were close childhood friends, had a falling out, and both individually moved to Bikini Bottom as adults

- meanwhile, Krabs and Plankton never had their big argument. they remained friends, but grew apart a bit when Krabs joined the navy and met his late wife

- Karen and Plankton met via their shared interest in technology (maybe at community college??) & eventyally married just bc neither wanted to be alone

- Krabs still started the Krusty Krab. the Chum Bucket is Karen's tech repair shop, and the secret lab is where she schemes up ways to one-up her rival Sandy, who runs a competing tech business out of her treedome

- Karen and Sandy have an antagonistic relationship covering up deeper feelings of both love and resentment

- Karen and Plankton are basically the same as in the show, but the stabilizing presence of Plankton's friendship with Krabs has made him a slightly more well adjusted adult, and the decades old hurt feelings Karen now nurses toward Sandy has molded her into a slightly more on edge & irritable adult

- Plankton basically just hangs out with Krabs and tinkers with his own tech stuff as a hobby, he lives off Karen's business (which is much more successful than the Chum Bucket). he's a failguy <3

How old is everyone in "F" is for Family?

First things first, I hope you're excited for the second to last chapter(s) of "F" is for Family! 🥳🤩 Thanks for sticking around!

Given some of the timeline specifics that come up in this chapter, I felt it might be helpful to give you an explanation of how old everyone is supposed to be in my fic, so these time skips don't feel as random.

Math admittedly isn't my strong suit but I've double-checked my calculations repeatedly and am feeling somewhat confident in the numbers I came up with.

DISCLAIMER: Like most things that come up in my fic, these ages are just my headcanons. Don't take any of this as actual fact or canon! The one thing you should take away from this is that cartoon logic is weird AF which makes it hard to say anyone's ages are canon tbh.

Explanations/ramblings - and SPOILERS - below the cut!

SpongeBob

I'm starting with our favorite little yellow friend here because I think he is where much of the age discussion first came up - starting with a certain driver's license that showed up in the episode, "Sleepy Time."

It says he was born in 1986, which would mean that we just celebrated in 37th birthday in July. However, there is one problem with this... the episode in question's debut air date is January 17, 2000.

If we go off the idea that he is canonically 37 as of July 14, 2023, this would mean that he was only 13 YEARS OLD in January 2000. In my country (the U.S.), if SpongeBob was 13, he wouldn't be old enough to:

Work at the Krusty Krab, especially not full-time.

Live on his own without a parent and/or guardian.

Attain a driver's permit, let alone a license. He'd have to wait another two years just to do the former.

I've considered the possibility that perhaps this episode doesn't actually take place during the actual air date. However, SpongeBob's driver's license also kinda debunks that theory. The expiration date is listed as December 14, 2003. Driver's licenses typically expire up to five years of issue date (depending on the state or country). This would, thus, confirm the episode takes place during 2000 or even earlier than that - making SpongeBob even younger than 13.

Seeing as SpongeBob is confirmed to be an adult during the series and is eligible to do the things listed above, this doesn't really add up.

Therefore, while I do think SpongeBob is an adult who is likely in his 30's, I don't think he's actually 37 years old (assuming he even ages).

It's also worth mentioning that they removed his birthday from later appearances of the license, leading me to believe they didn't really think that through initially. Interestingly, the expiration date has remained mostly consistent so... 🫧✨cartoon logic✨🫧

Now, to put my fanfic headcanon hat on for the duration of this post.... 🤠

Based on the timelines in my fic, I actually think his age is closer to 32-34 years old at the absolute most.

I believe I've mentioned somewhere in the story about how he and Squidward started working together about a decade prior to the events of the fic. This would mean that SpongeBob was in his early twenties when he began working at the Krusty Krab. which makes much more sense than him being 13 lmao

Squidward

So, I don't actually know how I came up with Squidward's age in this fic aside from general fandom headcanon, though I did see somewhere that his birthday is October 9, 1977 - making him 45 years old.

However, given what my analysis above revealed, I'm going to take this with a truckload of salt (especially since the actual year isn't confirmed in any official capacity). If this were true, he'd be ~21 years old in May 1999 (i..e, when "Help Wanted" premiered), which I don't think is accurate for him not to mention super awks. He was likely closer to that age when Jim was still working there.

I do think he's at least close to BlackJack's age and a bit older than SpongeBob, Todd, and Stanley. Therefore, my headcanon age for him is about 38-40 years old.

Harold & Margaret

In Harold and Margaret's origin story during this chapter, Harold and Sherm's ages are the only ones explicitly given. At the time of the story - which takes place roughly 53 years ago - Harold was confirmed to be 15 years old and a freshman in high school. Given that she was also a freshman at the time, Margaret is likely the same age.

If we do the math, Harold - and presumably Margaret - are about 68 years old at the time of FifF.

Sherm & Jolie

As previously mentioned, Sherm's age is also confirmed: he was 12 years old and just started junior high (6th grade in U.S.) when Harold and Margaret's story takes place.

In his and Jolie's own story - which happens about 46 years prior to the present - Sherm and Jolie are both freshmen in college, making them about 19 years old at the time.

Again, if we do the math, Sherm - and likely Jolie - are about 65 years old in the present day.

Blue & Sally

Unlike Harold and Sherm, Blue's age is not directly confirmed in Harold and Margaret's story. However, it is confirmed that he was a senior in high school, and he was old enough to drive. Based on this info and his younger brothers' ages, Blue was about 18 years old during this time.

In chapter 4, Blue also mentions that he'd been on the police force for 35 years. It's worth noting that the average amount of time people spend in the police academy is between 2-4 years. Assuming Blue enrolled right out of high school (as the story implies) and joined the force ~20 years old, he would've been around 55 years old when he officially retired. I like to think he was more ambitious/eager to climb the ladder when he was younger but grew more content staying in his police captain role since its already pretty senior and he had a family at that time.

Blue and Sally's origin story takes place about 41 years in the past from the fic's start.

In this story, Blue is described as being "one of the youngest lieutenants the force has ever seen." I can't recall how I got to this number if I'm honest, but I rounded his age to about 30 years old here as it is still young but not too young as to be unrealistic. I also felt it made more sense in the timeline for him and Sally to have had BlackJack a few years later (I.e., after she got released).

If we do the math from there, Blue would be around 71 years old during the time of the fic.

It's not mentioned anywhere, and she is deceased, but my headcanon for Sally is that she's about 1-2 years younger than Blue. Therefore, she'd likely be about 69-70 years old if she were still alive. In chapter 5, BlackJack reveals that “[Sally’s] been dead for ten years,” so she was ~59-60 when she actually passed.

Todd

From this picture, it's clear Todd shares some physical similarities with SpongeBob. Therefore, I felt that it would be likely for them to be close in age as well.

Starting from chapter 2, when we first meet Todd and the rest of the family, it's implied that Todd is at least "slightly older" than SpongeBob. He is also explicitly mentioned to be Stanley's older brother throughout the fic.

In chapter 5, we get the following exchange between Todd and SpongeBob:

Todd: “Besides, I am the oldest one here, so it only makes sense." SpongeBob: “Todd, we’re the same age –” Todd: “But I’ve got two months on you so that still makes me older."

Based on this, we can discern that Todd is also somewhere between 32-34 years old. Since he's two months older than SpongeBob, his birthday would take place sometime in May.

Stanley

While Stanley's canonical age is also not given, I got the impression that he was a bit younger than SpongeBob in his episode, "Stanley S. SquarePants." Stanley's curiosity about the world around him and his absentmindedness could be contributing factors to this, though that's not really indicative of age. In actuality, I felt it was SpongeBob taking him under his wing akin to a mentor or older sibling that really solidified this idea.

Therefore, in FifF, he's the baby of the group. 😇

Speaking of which, in chapter 13 (mini spoiler for next chapter when it goes live), it is mentioned that he was a baby while his older brother was a toddler - which would make Todd between the ages of 2-3 years old at the time.

With this range in mind, Stanley would be a few years younger than both Todd and SpongeBob, making him about 29-31 years old in the fic (assuming the other two are ~33).

BlackJack

BlackJack's age (in my headcanon) was more dependent on Blue's age between the time he met Sally and when they realistically would've had him together. I also felt he'd be closer in age to Squidward than he would be to his younger cousins.

Assuming his parents had him shortly after Sally got released from prison, BlackJack would be roughly 37-38 years old in the present day.

Grandma & Grandpa (Dotty & Simon)

Grandma and Grandpa SquarePants - or as I've named them, Dotty and Simon - met about 76 years ago.

While most prima ballerinas are slightly older than this (~25-30), Dotty was about 20 years old when she met Simon. He was likely a few years older than her, so I'd presume he was about 23-24 at the time.

With these numbers in mind, Grandma is about 96 years old during the events of FifF. While he is deceased and I didn't mention how long he'd been gone, Grandpa was likely between 97-99 years old when he passed.

So if SpongeBob's old parents were still alive, how would things be like in the present? Would stuff be the same or would things be very different?

If Martin's parents survived the car crash everything will change in the present.

Because as we see if his old parents dies he will have a good and normal life in the present where he has a bf and a loving job.

But in this kind of thing it would turn in a different path. (Tysm for asking this gave me so much HMM vibes)

If they were still alive, Martin would be still living in hell.

The parents never changing at the accident

He will never get his name renamed as the becoming of 'SpongeBob'

He will never get to see Patrick ever again because after getting released at the hospital they were forced to move out of the house because of some payments.

He will be with his parents living on an apartment.

Going to school will be tough because he's not going to the same school with Patrick anymore since they're both far away with each other.

He will never get his dream job as a frycook hero at the krusty krab.

He would work as a janitor in a pizza place.

He would also move out and move into a new apartment.

He will not meet Patrick, Sandy, or Krabs. Not even any other characters besides Perch Perkins and Squidward.

As Martin in his future he never had a bright one like SpongeBob's he will never be happy.

He will never be free

He will never have his pet snail/cat Gary

He will never have LUCK

And also he is more stress and pressured as he is now.

And that is why the timeline should be exactly where the both of his parents actually dies from that car accident.

Inspired by this post I’m dropping my own bitter exes Squillward hcs which basically turned into a timeline oops

- Squidward started working at the Krusty Krab as a teenager, probably about 16, in which Jim was about early-mid 20s

- Squid and Squill started dating a while prior, 8th or 9th grade

- just as well, Squid was rather similar to SpongeBob during that time: innocent, bubbly, optimistic, happy, though not as naïve and extroverted as Sponge is

- Squilliam grew up in the rich kind of family that anyone who works certain jobs or makes a certain amount are “lesser” and that he is not to associate himself with “untouchables” like that

[edit since I didn’t know how to phrase it before: basically Squilliam grew up learning that love from his parents is conditional, that if he ends up like anything other than them—without money or being “unsuccessful,” he is to be shunned, and part of that is even associating himself with someone who isn’t like them]

- due to Squilliam having that mindset engraved in him, Squidward hid his job from Squilliam the best he could; especially when Squilliam started talking about “the new grease trap in town” and how he’d refuse to know anyone who dared step foot in it

- it wasn’t long until Squilliam found out, especially when he started accusing Squid of cheating and it turned into something of a big fight

- during said fight, Squilliam couldn’t understand how he wasn’t well off enough to have to work in the first place, and Squid was trying his best to explain that he only has one parent he lives with, and that one source of income isn’t always enough, especially when he needs his own boat and his mother’s money alone isn’t enough to cover a college tuition in a couple of years—even with financial aid, and it was only then Squilliam realized that Squidward is someone his parents wouldn’t approve of if they knew him fully

- “Besides, I-I’m just doing this until my clarinet career takes off! It’s like a—like a humble beginning! That—that makes it different, right? I-Is it better, at least? Please, Squilliam, I didn’t want to upset you!”

- with his upbringing, and the fact that Squilliam is still 16, he doesn’t know how to admit that he’s wrong, another thing that was ingrained in his head at a young age, so he continues trying to tell Squid he should quit and find something better but when Squid won’t back down he “calls it a draw” and says something snippy in his frustration before walking out so he can pretend he didn’t lose the argument; Squid cried himself to sleep that night already knowing there was going to be a huge shift in their relationship

- they stay together for another few months after that fight; things are never the same w them

- the night they broke up is at some sort of event that Squilliam had been looking forward to for a while, some kind of business party his parents were going to and Squid is his plus one (“as my best friend, of course” he lied due to the time period), and before going in reminds Squid to “just not embarrass me tonight, ok? <3” and “just let me do all the talking,” translating to: “don’t bring up your job”

- Squid is basically arm candy all night until 1 (one) person was actually interested in including him in conversation and he got so comfortable and excited he forgot where he was, he mentioned something about a “coworker” which then whoever they were talking to was interested in what he does since he’s “so young” to start working, and he panics, lack of response very long and his stammering didn’t help, which Squilliam rolled his eyes and saved his ass with a perfect lie and Squid knew that was going to be a very long conversation for them later

- because of that, Squilliam pulls Squidward outside before moving on to the next person “for some fresh water, excuse us a moment (c:” and, well, things don’t turn out well, Squilliam saying that he nearly ruined the night and made a total fool of himself and Squid is fighting tears but something in his anger gives him a little bit of a backbone in the moment:

“That job has changed you, Squiddy.”

“No,” Squidward argues, interrupting anything else Squilliam planned to say. “It changed you. It changed us. All you’ve done is insult me since you found out about it! That’s why I didn’t want to tell you in the first place!”

“I’m trying to help you, Squiddy!” Squilliam snaps, his expression softening. “You really wanted to hide that from me?”

“Yes!” Squidward retorts, face growing hot with anger. “You’re not trying to help me at all! You’re just belittling me because you can’t accept that I have a far different life than yours!—or, maybe, because you enjoy having some kind of power over me, and you can’t stand that I’m even something of my own person that I don’t need you!”

- Squidward was right about the last part, but even Squilliam didn’t realize it yet, not until a while after the breakup when he was the drum major their junior year and he was able to call out and humiliate Squidward at just about any point in time (except, of course, during an actual performance, but class and rehearsals were free reign), and he enjoyed feeding off of his humiliation and misery, mostly as something for “payback” for what he said (and for breaking up w him)

- due to all of Squid’s friends and acquaintances coming from being so inseparable from Squilliam, he became totally isolated for the rest of high school, nobody knowing about their breakup at all since, again, period-typical homophobia to fear

- coming from school and straight to work, Squid was miserable more and more each day and Krabs and Jim don’t know what happened but they do know it’s bad enough that he went from being so bubbly to hardly lifting his head from the floor

- Squidward was 20 when Krabs adopted 1-year-old Pearl, and while he’d gotten better since he graduated high school, he still isn’t looking too great, and soon fell a perfect opportunity for both: Squidward needed a pick-me-up, Krabs needed a babysitter

- Squidward was incredibly nervous the first time he watched over Pearl, especially being an only child and none of his cousins being even remotely his age which leaves him with absolutely no baby experience, but Krabs gave him written instructions and went over them before taking off for the day, and that was that

- Krabs especially knew he made a great decision when he came home to the lights off and Squidward passed out on the couch, Pearl sleeping quietly on his chest, with some little kid movie playing quietly in the background

- Squidward woke up when Krabs picked Pearl up off his chest, flustered and embarrassed in fear of overstaying his welcome but Krabs interrupts his startled rambling with, “Could we see you again next weekend, Mr. Squidward?”

- Squidward is notably less miserable at work every time he babysits

- years pass (present), obviously they’re older now and Squilliam has realized what he did wrong but he still enjoys feeding off of Squid’s humiliation and misery and he wants a redo so bad or at least to get what they had before Squid started at the Krusty Krab, but y’know continuously torturing your ex isn’t any way to win them back over

- Squidward also now likes SpongeBob but he’s so scared to date again and as he got older he’s been using anger as a defense mechanism and he’s so afraid of being vulnerable, especially now that Sponge knows so much about him that he didn’t want to share and he just has this way of getting anyone to spill whatever baggage they have and Squidward hates that and it’s only another thing that bothers him so much about SpongeBob

- Squilliam was never told about it, but he doesn’t need to; he just sees it, and he can’t stand looking at them together bc it’s almost just like how he and Squidward were when they started dating and it absolutely kills him that he can’t get that back, especially since Squidward isn’t the happy bubbly one anymore and he’s almost positive it’s his fault

Bonus:

- SpongeBob is also into Squidward and knows at least something about his and Squilliam’s past but at the very least he knows Squidward’s been hurt and he knows to wait for Squid to make the first move so that he knows he’s ready

I had a sad headcanon recently about a timeline in the episode SB-129. What if the someone to go looking for Squidward was Spongebob.

Spongebob ironically doesn't even think of Squidward being at the Krusty Krab, so he looks everywhere else he can, for who knows how long, only for Spongebob to never know what happened to his friend.
