Paparazzi: Please we just want to interview you all! Korra, holding the door down: Damn it they found out about us! Kyoshi, helping her: So uhhhh what do we do? Yangchen: Sigh, we could just answer their questions. Korra and Kyoshi: Yeah no our public image isn't the best, and we really suck with that type of stuff. Aang: I'm a child. :) Kuruk: I don't deal with people. Roku: Something tells me we'll regret talking with them. So, no. Yangchen: FINE! I'll talk to them. What's the worst that can happen?

My hope as a writer is that you will read the very good, very intense and grounded intro to my graphic novel when it comes out....
And you will be intrigued by my bangin' art and/or my killer audiobook as you eagerly move on to the next arc...
At which point you will feel me, the writer, take you by the hand, look you in the eye, and then point at a passing shark and go "okay so first things first, we jump that fucker." And without waiting for a response, the gay sky pirates are here and the "fan fiction tropes" light will REMAIN ON FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE FLIGHT. SHARK! SHARK! SHARK! SHARK!
And then we go goof around with some silly little guys for a couple story arcs. David and Kuruk save a literal puppy. Build a friendship. Meet the Amazing Armadillo Woman. Normal stuff. And then the most devastating shit I can possibly conjure up with all my power and heart as a storyteller and an artist. And then! More silly little blorbos! :D And then both at the same time!
The metaphorical shark is now your inner child! we are befriending the shark! we are jumping over cars in a monster truck with the shark! 😌🌸💖
Look at me. Look at your man. Your man is now you. You are now me. We are all one and yet deeply individual. Trans women are women. I have made you another himbo. The narrative is RADICALLY LEFTIST. /tone indicator: Old Spice reference. HE'S DONE IT. Jack's done a joke! #WRITERSKILLZ
Anyway, next thing you know, I've made you care about my characters with my trickery and overall silly vibes. And then you'll be all like, "ohhHHHh, Jaaaack! I feel like when David learns to love himself for his own inherent worth, I also come closer to giving myself permission to do the same."
And I'll be like, "haha, fool, you've fallen right into my trap! Get HELD by the NARRATIVE, bitch! Get VALIDATED, why don't you! I bet you're feeling CATHARSIS right now, you absolute SUNFLOWER! Hahahahaha!!!!
So anyway, that's the general goal, I think. It's good to have goals.

Hey Stitch! I hope you’re doing well :) It’s been a minute since I’ve chatted with you about some Taang HC’s but I do got one that’s been living in my mind! (Rent free ofc!) Some of your recent works got me thinking about The Swamp and how important it is to Toph and Aang’s whole relationship. I just have so many thoughts about it, I’ll try to limit myself to only a few. What was Toph’s reaction when Aang told her the full story about what he experienced there? Would she be interested or not so much? If she was into it do you think Aang would ever take her to visit? I’m just so curious about how in “canon” we go from Toph barely hearing about it throughout ATLA/LOK to her living out the rest of her days there? What happens in the middle of it all!?
Thea! Hi G always lovely to hear from ya :) These are great questions, very thought provoking lmao (and feel free to send more, especially if this is rent free in your mint atm haha ;)
I envision a similar eyebrow raise when Aang was like "A crazy king told me to find someone like you..." Skeptical, confused, but she knows he's telling the truth. And by this point, Aang and Toph are best buds at the very least, so she trusts him without even using seismic sense. The Spirit World doesn't seem like something she understands the inner workings of completely, so she'd probably listen as opposed to add more to the conversation (I mean, a snarky comment here and there, but that's expected). She doesn't know if seeing people in a vision they've never met is unusual or odd, so this feels like a waiting and listening situation for her to get full context.
I think she'd be interested in his experience! Especially if they ever talk about his past life Kuruk and start to connect the dots, but the standalone Swamp story would intrigue her. She'd like to hear about about the Banyan Grove tree, she'd love the 'everything is connected' aspect, and she'd probably laugh that Aang tackled Katara when he thought he reached Toph.
If they travel a lot for fun or for work (which, I think they would!), then I bet they visit the Swamp once or twice. I think the big pull for Toph would still be the Banyan Grove tree, like she would still love that she could see the whole world from one spot. And even though Toph doesn't really meditate or understand the Spirit World completely, I think she would appreciate all the energy that is emitted from the area, and Aang is always so enthusiastic when he talks and spews out facts, I can see them walking around, balancing on roots of trees while Aang is babbling about some funny creature he saw the last time he was there and Toph would just smile as she followed his steps.
I don't know if I would have Toph living in the Swamp after Aang dies, but I can see her visiting in the fall, the season of airbenders. Just like an ode to Aang and to feel closer to him. She wouldn't stay long or anything, she's got places to be and things to do, and family is really important to her, she wouldn't abandon them or separate herself from them. In my opinion, definitely weird that she just picks up and leaves and says "I'm looking for enlightenment" and becomes the Shrek of the ATLA world without character development but... what do I know lmao.
Part of me thinks (more like hopes) that Toph and Aang would casually talk about the Swamp in canon and that's where she hears about it and becomes interested in going but, it really is a mystery... :/
Very interesting thoughts, though! Definitely makes you think twice and just wonder what happened in between ATLA and LOK. Not sure if you have any other thoughts on the matter, but I'd love to hear them if you care to share! Thanks for the ask, G. Hope your day is great! :D
