(message from future Van as I edit this -- Beware Ye Of The Unmarked Asspulls in this answer. Also SPOILERS THROUGH THE END OF CHAPTER 7) Yeah, like, I'm kind of two minds about them? I definitely think the way they take on similar features to a big source of cultural trauma (Faced Mechons for Keves, Sirens for Agnus) of the two kingdoms supports the idea that ether is still a kind of collective memory, the way it was presented in XC2. They're weapons of intimidation, first and foremost, built to bolster the forces and make them more comfortable taking risks and choosing fight over flight, to feel like they've got something dangerous backing them up, but I also feel like they're subtly designed to reinforce the sense of hopelessness that is instrumental to the war working as intended. Z wants everyone to give up, the goal is to make everyone into Moebius and arrive at a kind of heat death of the universe that way.

From a practical perspective, I don't think the Ferronises are a new development in the war.... but I do think the war was probably initially fought without them, with everyone just under the one Big Flame Clock at the Castle. But we now that people do figure the war out, and if everyone was concentrated together, they'd just figure it out quicker, so eventually the amount of people fighting in the war necessitated they get split up and scattered across Aionios to stop them from seeing too much of the big picture to work it out like Alexandria did. So, basically, I'm taking the long way around to say that I think Flame Clocks preceded Ferronises, and Ferronises were conceived as extensions of Levnises, and are probably historically represented as such.

I think there's also a certain amount of incentive for Z to keep growing the scale of the war as more people became Moebius and started requiring Things To Do in the Eternal Now -- a lot of the Consuls in the game are or at least appear to be pretty new to their jobs, or at least have enthusiasm for it, which could be a ramp effect to embracing the true Endless Now of Not Doing Anything Ever Again after they get their petty victory or revenge or whatever it is that drove them to become Moebius in the first place. Maybe Ferronises were initially built to allow the Consuls to spar amongst themselves, and then as they got bored of that, new Consuls would take over.

Which brings me back around to the actual designs of the Ferronises -- lots of animal motifs to go around, but off the top of my head nothing really seems to match up that strongly with its Consul, other than maybe the miko outfit on Mu paralleling I's design. One that really leaps out is R with her fox design placed alongside the very scorpion-y Colony 11. Since there's a limited amount of Consul Titles to go around, if the ramp theory is correct, the Ferronises may be designed to spec by their original Consuls, but as they are now they're more like.... tabletop RPG factions, they all come with their own "playstyle" so to speak. Hell, depending on how circular you want to see the timeloop as, maybe colonies tend to have the same commanders over and over in a cycle, which would bring some periodic consistency to the game of war.

During the events of the game, we may actually be in a lull between campaigns, with a lot of consuls electing to not play, leaving Z to having to pull up a bunch of new Moebius to fill the seats around the gameboard, because if the war cools off too much, the people of the Kingdoms are gonna start asking questions again.

Higurashi Meguri End Summary

It's mid. Here's the cons. Pros at the end.

•Satoshi becomes relevant again only to be a plot device in convincing Satoko to live as he's miraculously recovered

•EUA straight up leaves and there's zero confrontation. She's not even relevant at the end, only a few pages with her going "eh, OK. I'll dip."

•Rika doesn't question why or how Satoko was able to loop or ask who her benefactor was. She just thinks about it briefly and then moves on

•No explanation on whether the looping contract Satoko was under is still going

•Zero witch references, not even a satoko Lambda hint. It basically doesn't exist.

•All that trauma shown through Satoko's perspective was solved through the Power of Friendship

•Hanyuu is completely dead and there's no exploration on Rika's grief. She's just gone and that's it really.

•The gang exist as devices to make Satoko happy, they don't even question wtf was happening between Rika and Satoko. Rena mentions once something along the lines of "it's probably something only you two understand" and that's it.

•Rika doesn't go to St.Lucia. In fact, we have no idea what Rika does as they grow up.

•Teppei is never mentioned or brought up ever.

•No elaboration on the witch-side of things e.g, Bernkastel and Featherine/EUA.

Pros:

•Rika doesn't immediately forgive Satoko and it takes a very long time for the both of them to heal. They're distant but over the years learn to become close again somewhat.

•Satoshi finally gets to be fuckin happy

Le but, pour nous, est de créer un forum où pourront être joués des personnages n'ayant pas forcément leur place sur un city 'classique' car touchant des sujets pouvant être triggering, too much, too angsty, mais également des personnages softies qui seront tout autant à leur place que ceux qui ont les mains clairement sales... Criminels, gens tourmentés, personnages 'lambda', venez comme vous êtes.

Nous avons également pris la décision de laisser libre la création d'organisations, activités, structures illégales. Pas de grandes toiles prédéterminées nécessitant des annexes interminables. Nous voulons un univers construit mais accessible. Benrey And Gordon Have Their Personality Swapped With Each Other. With Their Personality Swap, Parts Of Their Design Do As Well! (Hence Why I Have Side By Side Comparisons With How I Usually Draw Them.)

Benrey Is Now More Cautious About Himself And His Appearance, Making Sure He Follows The Proper Dress Code And ALWAYS Brings His Passport And ID To Work. He Does His Best To Fit In But Finds It Hard To Socialize With The Other Guards, So He Instead Seeks Out Friendships With The Scientists Of Black Mesa. One Of His Closet Friends Is Tommy. Unlike His Normal Counterpart, He Tries Not To Make It Obvious That He Isn't Human.

Gordon Is Now More Reckless And Has No Regard For Rules. Throughout The Journey Of The Per Swap AU, He Never Wears A Helmet And Has His Hair Out. His Lack Of Care For Safety Is Often The Reason Why He Gets Hurt (Or Killed.) He's Completely Human But Seems Oddly Interested With Becoming An Alien Or Obtaining The Powers Of One. This Of Course Makes Benrey Uncomfortable As He Remarks This A Lot Throughout The Journey. For The Most Part, Gordon Is Completely Clueless To Benrey Being An Alien But When Someone Has A Slip Of The Tongue, This Leads To Similar Events In Act 3.

As Seen In The Sketch Above, Coomer Has Bubby's Personality, Tommy Has Coomer's Personality And Bubby Has Tommy's Personality.

Bubby Is What The Gang Describes As "Overcooked" Because He Was Left In His Tube For Too Long By Accident. Thankfully He Still Remembers The Knowledge That Was Placed Into Him But Because He's Still Relatively New To The Environment Outside Of The Tube, He's Very Curious About A Lot Of Things. He Takes On A Younger Appearance, More To The Likes Of Someone In Their Late 20s, Hence Why He Has A Full Head Of Hair. Bubby Is Aware That Benrey Is An Alien But Doesn't Mention Anything About It, He Does End Up Telling Coomer This Information With Benrey's Permission Eventually Though. After The Events Of Act 3 Part 1, He Makes It Clear That He Feels Betrayed.

Tommy Is Pretty Much A Normal Guy, With The Exception Of His Gman Like Powers. He Likes To Keep It Fun In The Group And Reflects This In His Attire By Wearing A Hawaiian Shirt Under His Lab Coat. When Benrey Uses His Black Mesa Sweet Voice, Tommy Is The Only One That Can Translate It, So He Does For The Rest Of The Group. He Encourages Benrey On Progressing And Tries To Be Chummy With Everyone In The Group. Gordon Only Trusts Tommy And Tommy Doesn't Show Doubt In Any Plans The Group Has. Tommy Doesn't Know That Benrey Is An Alien Straight Away But The Dots Eventually Click Together In Tommy's Mind, Tommy Never Says Anything About It Though.

Coomer Is Very Ill Mannered Compared The Group, The Tests That He Experiences At Black Mesa That Made Him Essentially A Cyborg Made Him Very Pessimistic Towards A Lot Of Things. He Does Show Joy Towards And About Things, Like When He Recalls About Divorcing His DREADED Ex Wife. He Seems To Be On Edge Most Of The Time, Informing Benrey How Much Longer It Is Until They Get To The Surface And Lambda Lab. He Gets Along Really Well With Gordon, Benrey Doesn't Like To Assume Things So When They Begin Whispering Things To Each Other He Stays Out Of It. It's Revealed That Coomer Revealed That Benrey Is An Alien To Gordon, Which He Shows Some Regret For After Gordon's Plans Drastically Affect Benrey Wellbeing.

Hmmm... 'intimidated by'? Intimidation is... hmm. Well, I don't feel intimidated by anyone here. Not in an arrogant way (as in I AM THE GREETIST) but in a... we all have different skills, preferences and focuses kind of way? And I mean sure, I’d love to be a better artist, but I think growth comes from appreciation and a desire to keep learning rather than intimidation. 

But admiring WELL. I admire many people within this fandom. This is for sure not a complete list & I’ll likely add to it/edit it as time goes on, so nothing personnel, kid.

@neomineom I ADORE their art! They have mostly drawn Sokol/Dallas, but in the past also did some Chains/Houston. I love how they draw & colour things in a soft, pastel-ly, realistic way. Some work is NSFW but you can only see it if legally allowed to do so in your country.

@handhelld An artist & writer. Their art uses such bright colours that just P O P. I want to learn their secrets 👀 They also write EXTREMELY hot fics over on AO3.Their NSFW alt is also a personal fave of mine.

@lambda-complex I haven’t seen them active so much on here lately, but their art is phenomenal in terms of colour (that one Wolf with drill pic is insane), poses (Chains on a horse say whaaaaatt?).

@biframes A recent addition to the Payday Tumblr community! They have uploaded so many cute comics and single-shot posts of the gang and have a soft spot for WolfHox (I have famously shared in the past how many times I have viewed their AO3 fic - their handle is lowpolycloud - and consider it one of the very best WolfHox NSFW fics out there).

@artcupcakes = A bit less active these days but a talented artist and writer! They also made Grade A shitposts.

Desbea @des-paa-cee-toeee = I love and hate their work because there’s never a happy ending, but it scratches that angst itch. It’s not overly done/overly dramatic or eye-rolling-ly OoT as some angst can be - its a fine line to tread and D knows how far to push. I also cracked up L O A D S at their poly soulmates AU fic, which I believe never made it out publicly. I also... both loved and hated their Hanahaki NaviMind fic written on here. It hurts but it was so good I was grabbing my phone like a little gremlin every time I got a notification through from them.

@scrungly-sad-vlad-is-bad = the madperson did it, they went and wrote GolfGuide. I am very much looking interestingly at whether they will write more like the little content gremlin I am.

Grace Field Poll: I was glad to see how well Don & Emma and Gilda & Ray were doing on the Grace Field poll. ;w; Both feel the most criminal to me given how big of a role Don and Gilda play in the series, but ultimately I went with Gilda & Ray because I couldn't think of any moment for them that was equivalent to Don being the first of the larger group of kids to voice his support for Emma's plan:

Episode 10 also nixes the scene of Don and Gilda privately conversing in the woods in chapter 31 and instead has Ray apologizing to Don and Gilda directly rather than just Emma, which is made even more poignant when you consider how strongly he reacted to Emma and Norman giving them false hope about still being able to save Conny in chapter 11/episode 4.

He's not even trying to feign the distance he self-imposed between them in his mind at this point. He's genuinely sorry for failing them for their own sakes, not as extra able bodies who could assist Emma and Norman outside the wall. And it's a genuinely distressing sight for the two of them, seeing him at his lowest point after everything he sacrificed for this plan.

To have her then knowingly hum and hold that look of fondness for him when she sees how shocked is, after years of believing a better outcome was impossible, and how worried he is, because try as he might to keep the other children at arm's length mentally there's a way Ray frets over and looks after them that is reminiscent of Gilda's own (they are united in being the Mom Friends™ of the escapees 🤝), is such a sweet, gentle kindness that they didn't have to include but I'm very glad they did.

Goldy Pond Poll: Emma & Oliver has always felt like one of the most pertinent dynamics to come out of Goldy Pond alongside Emma & Violet with the amount of focus each are given individually as effectively the leaders of the Grace Field escapees and Goldy Pond kids, respectively, and together. The latter is significantly less, unfortunately, but Oliver usually acts as Emma's point person when she needs to confer information/plans and Norman and Ray won't work for the situation because symbolically the scene calls for a representation of larger group cohesion with the kids she didn't grow up with.

Also, after losing so many older siblings at Grace Field and becoming the big sister/leader of them, it's nice to have her regain that kind of relationship with any of the Goldy Pond group; Oliver just happens to have more panels dedicated to it lol

(Chapter 122; this moment is so minuscule, but again we have Oliver acting in a leader role and Emma using him as a point of reference to confirm that taking it easy in this new place is wise and safe for everyone. If even Oliver thinks it's okay to act like this—to say nothing of the way he tells her so gently and in so few words—then she can rest a little more soundly.)

The way she's staring at Mujika in rapt attention, left hand grabbing for hers while she holds her right in front of her chest to show how animated she is in the conversation, either because she's gesturing to herself or is at a loss for words in the the excitement of the moment or because the adrenaline from the skirmish with Hayato and Jin is wearing off and trying to will the words to spill forth.

It's been months since she's been able to hold a conversation with anyone in the language her father passed down to her because he believed it was something worth preserving of his culture from a millennia ago, so to be able to have that back with someone as kind and graciously loving as Mujika is something special.

I think it would be very thematically appropriate if none of the Agnian commanders really got along with each other before the gang starts building their Aionios Mutual Aid Network, forcing them to start playing nice with each other.

Teach has a Reputation(tm), especially among those who remember Colony Chi, Isurd is completely impossible to work with because Lambda self-selects for people who are just as bureaucratic as he is, the previous commander of Iota was a known shitbag and Alexandria has done little to distinguish herself because the aura of menace serves her authority, and nobody knows poor Juniper and Fiona exist because their Consuls were actively isolating them.

Agnus also clearly has a stronger honour culture than Keves. Kevesi colonies certainly don’t work with each other more while everyone is still stuck using the Flame Clocks, but I got the impression that their commanders are at least generally in good terms with each other. They also have rogue colonies like Eleven and Fifteen that said “nuts to that” and are in borderline active rebellion against the Castle even before the events of the game, Flame Clocks or no. In contrast, as the system starts unraveling, Agnus looks like it might drift into actual civil war, and the soldiers and commanders alike seem to place a much stronger emphasis on duty in service to the Queen than survival.

Random things and easter eggs about DH Melodia and DH 3...

No huge spoiler here (except one) but mainly stuff you didn't notice while reading it.

The story is almost over (only 3 chapters left) and I don't think there's going to be any huge references like before as it will be focused on Leïla and Hiro story.

It's also going to take me a while to make it (my game is acting weird lately with infinite load on main lots ...) so I guess this is a little thing to keep you waiting ^^

The episode started with the usual editing but when the spell starts on the next day, the episode changes into a "movie" with 16:9 format (remember this is a musical after all).

The usual editing format will be back at the end of the spell so be carefull to that by the end of the episode I guess 😋

Main references : outfits !

As you probably noticed if you read the story, the characters have a loooot of outfits this episode even though it all happens the same day. Why ? Because usually characters/artists have several outfit when they sing, outfits that illustrate their current mood most of the time.

I also put a lot of references to the original song/video/movie, well at least I tried my best :

Hiro and Leïla are wearing similar outfits than Xander and Anyah in the Buffy Musical special, the scene is litteraly a tribute to the original one as we see the couple arguing and dancing in their home.

The couple also have a Midsommar poster on top of their bed to illustrate that something's going on in this relationship ... (Will Hiro burn at the end ? Or is it their relationship ?)

Aïssa has Barbie The Movie outfits as she's the Barbie of the gang and she always wears pink.

Milo wears a lot of band merch t-shirt (his favourites).

The Lambda Beta sisters are all wearing Taylor Swift's inspired outfits. All of their outfits are inspired by either a Taylor outfit or an album like Lover (blue and pink dress to match the colours of this album). Kayla is a mix between 2 Midnights outfits.

Julia represents Reputation as she's the snake of the story . She also has similar outfits to Taylor when she sings look what you made me do.

Mindy has a similar outfits to AnyahTaylor-Joy 's one in Last Night in Soho (as she sings the cover from the movie. this is one of the best movies I've seen in 2021 and probably in my life, so watch it whenever you can). Mindy illustrates some kind of purity here as Thomasin in the movie (I don't show you her look here to keep the surprise if you watch the movie). Just like her, she'll be impacted by the city and its danger ...

When Leïla sings Drinks by Cyn, she also has a similar outfit to Cyn's one in the videoclip. That's also why her hair are more curly than usual, even though her hair are naturally curly. I also choose a skirt suit because Leïla is more a skirt girl ^^

The spell doesn't work on Destiny first but when it gets more powerfull, it starts to impact her as well (which bring to the Physical scene in which she has a similar look to Dua Lipa's one in the videoclip). I also put the different colours because I thought it was fun.

DH3 ....

Yes, I also put some things that are going to impact DH3, the next season of Destiny Harbour. As Melodia is supposed to be a huge introduction to Britechester and the new characters/plots, a new kind of evil/enemy is also rising slowly ...
