Inglourious Basterds (2009, Quentin Tarantino)
01/03/2024
Inglourious Basterds is a 2009 film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Uchronic war film, the title is a tribute to Enzo G. Castellari's 1977 features film Quel maledetto treno blindato, released in the United States with the title The Inglorious Bastards which Tarantino modified homophonically in the original language to Inglourious Basterds.
It is the first chapter of the director's trilogy of historical revisionism, which will continue with Django Unchained and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, paying homage to Sergio Leone and his trilogy of time, revisiting various periods of the contemporary history.
1941. In Nazi-occupied France, the young Jewish Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the massacre of her entire family at the hands of German Colonel Hans Landa, nicknamed "Jew Hunter" for his ability to sniff out their hiding places. The girl miraculously escapes death and takes refuge in Paris.
1944. Lieutenant Aldo Raine recruits a special team of eight Jewish soldiers nicknamed "Bastards", belonging to various units of the US military. The soldiers will be parachuted into Europe shortly before the Normandy landings, with the mission to sow terror among the Nazis, killing every German soldier they encounter to take their scalps. The nickname Bastards was given to them by the German soldiers for the continuous massacres that Raine and his group carried out, in particular for the bloody killings carried out by Sergeant Donnie Donowitz (nicknamed The Bear Jew) with a baseball bat. A new member has recently been added to the group: the former German soldier Hugo Stiglitz, who became famous in the German army for having killed 13 Gestapo officers.

so like… who in ninjago is actively producing chainmail in the era of high tech sentient robots and social media. who is out here painstakingly preparing 100% authentic armor and weaponry and chainmail for this motley crew of vaguely teenaged disasters and friends. there is a thriving industry for leather armor! skylor rolls up to hunted with a whole sleeve of scale armor! kai’s hunted design implies they either wear chainmail under their gi or they just had it lying around in the bounty! living for the baffling implications of traditional armor and weapons techniques persisting until the “modern” day. do you think wu gave skylor the number for his “guy” after s4, bc she rolls up to skybound and s7 ready and rockin it. do you think wu pays the unknown mystery person producing their costumes each season fair commission rates. the resistance has a unique armor style - do you think it’s far more modern military-esque bc lloyd doesn’t know wu’s guy?

I’m the Middle Ages, we’re their likely any instances where the local “lord” (or equivalent) was poorer than some of the people under his lordship, like a landed knight being poorer than the local wealthy yeoman? I suppose, if so, intermarriage would be the likely resolution?
So if you look through my tag on "genteel poverty," you can certainly see that this was a phenomenon that cropped up during the Late Middle Ages and really took off during the Early Modern period due to the price revolution. However, it might be more likely to happen with regards to the local wealthy merchant than the local yeoman, since it was easier for the upwardly mobile to make their fortune in commerce than in agriculture.
Intermarriage was one resolution, being forced to gradually sell off land was another, but in moments of broader crisis other options like burning down the manor house or the house of the uppity merchant also became possibilities. People did have a way of taking advantage of larger phenomena to settle local scores.

it’s crazy like actually insane that i can’t find historical demographic analyses of childlessness rates among women of any time period before the 1800s. that seems like it should be such a interesting illustrative statistic in and of itself but also as an indicator of broader social/economic/religious/political/environmental conditions. it’s a statistic that establishes something entirely distinct from what you get out of an average birth rate...
OK NVM post kind of cancelled i'm finding a couple articles. but nothing that's really what i'm looking for/what i'd be wanting answers to. w/e do i sound insane/is this already obvious

Choi Ha-neul, or just Hana for short, starts her second year of undergrad in late 2019, alongside her lifelong best friend Ryn, and recent additions from freshman year; Aurora and Reese. These four hit up the library between classes a lot and there, frequently run into an incoming freshman who seems troubled and alone... so naturally, they friendopt her and make her join in on their group escapades.
They’re just starting to get closer as a group and become true, genuine friends when the spring 2020 semester rolls around, and with it.... well. You Know.
more Hana facts
really likes hydrangeas and kind of makes them her whole personality
is definitely the type to fantasize about owning a combination bakery and flower shop
has raised gerbils since she was young and will defend them to the death
likes celestial aesthetics when shes not going ham about florals
longs to have been born earlier so she could’ve had a cool flip phone w/ a ton of dangly charms to put on it
has a scar across her nose/forehead from a diving board incident as a kid
despite having lots of cool piercings and wanting more, she’s terrified of needles so for now she just Imagines
not the most socially adept member of the group, but the most socially confident... so she’s basically the diplomat
was the shortest of her friends before they all friendnapped Paz

you know, I generally agree with criticism of modern-day American Girl, but I really don't get why people are pissed that they're making historical dolls from the 90s??? Like, they introduced Julie in the 2000s, and she's from the 70s. I guess that's a wider time gap, but still. To modern kids, the 90s were a long time ago! 23 years is a lot in kid time!

how are you ruined?
ruined by trauma
you cannot get over the past. you are constantly remembering, never forgetting. you cant live in the moment because the moment is not what brought you here. you are birthed, raised, and killed in the past. you will never get over what was done to you, be it big or be it small. you cannot escape what you refuse to confront.
