Why R U Korean Series Review
Read our quick review of the 2023 Korean series "Why R U" starring Lee Jun Min, Lee Ye Hwan, Lee Sang Min and Park Chang Hoon.
Imagine having a friend or sibling writing a fan-fiction romance novel using your name for the protagonist, and somehow all that’s being written comes true for you too. Depending on the story, the scenario can be fun, exciting, scary, or simply creepy. Based on the 2020 Thai series of the same name, the Korean show “Why R U,” much like the original, follows two close friends who develop feelings…

finally watching bloodhounds because I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT and also cuz im bored. I'm like nearly done with the first ep and can I just say:
I adored the budding friendship between woojin and gunwoo is just. perfect. I love love love how theyre playful but still respectful and thoughtful in their interactions and I love their characters so much? Like kdramas usually have me caring and invested in the first episode, but like I just feel it so keenly this time? And like I genuinely care about these people and I just love the vibe of the show so far- gritty and dark, but still hopeful because of its leads. I love it so much.
Also park sung-woong is fucking hot and like I knew that? like I watched unlock my boss a few weeks back but it was more- oh, hot man- oh, oh- cute phone I guess- but this time around he has a scar and everything and apparently I'm into older hot men as villains and I just adore the way this man acts I can't.
And the fighting scenes omgggg- it's amazingly choreographed and I know shit about fight scene choreography but I was literally feeling the tension the entire time and it's just shot very well. I'd watch the episode over and over for the scenes in the boxing competition alone.
Point is this series is very good and I'm really impressed with it so far. it's super grounded yet excited, and I'm loving everything so far. I'm barely an episode in, but I'm invested again.

Revolutionary Love. 7/8
Story: 7
Acting: 9
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Office Girls (twainesse drama) ; Cunning Single Lady (kdrama) ;
The kdrama takes the classic rich elite ceo family storyline to the next level. It surrounds itself about the injustices of society's issues and Korean labour laws. Just don’t take it too seriously at times, while switching off your brain and enjoy the ride. It’s over the top and the main leads character played by Super Junior’s Siwon, dials up the ham, maybe sometimes overly too funny with the naive dumb awe shucks act being a bit too annoying in the beginning episodes. His character does get a much needed character growth in the mid to later acts. Overall it’s a nice romantic romcom with a great bromance subplot too.

I just wanna have a brief discussion about 2 BL actors right now:
Tumblr media
Bright Rapheephong Thapsuwan - Yai in I Feel You Linger in the Air
Tumblr media
Lee Ye Hwan - Kim Ji Oh in Why R U? (Korea - the Saifah character)
Look I talk about acting style lot, especially around chemistry. So if you're watching these two shows here's something:
Bright does 90% of his acting with his eyes. His eye work is INSANE. You can see just from the way he looks and Jom how much Yai likes him (and wants him). It's pretty flipping cool. This is relatively rare out of Thailand, another actor who does this in Nanon.
Lee Ye Hwan does 90% of his acting with his body. He is super physically aware of space and proximity, which is very very rare from Korean talent. You can see in the way he moves, tilts his head, his hand gestures, breath matching and leaning in, how much Ji Oh likes/wants Lee Won.
It's just really cool to have two such clear examples of acting styles that are in contrast to the other actors surrounding them in their respective shows.
So I just thought, if you're watching these 2 shows, I'd point it out and use them as teaching tools for these two different acting styles.

Now that we have come to the end of the drama... Drama vs. Webtoon time!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm going to do this one a little differently, head to head, did the drama or the webtoon do it better in Marry My Husband?
Drama did it better! ML's Original Death
So in the webtoon, Ji-hyuk goes to Ji-won's funeral and then just offs himself by walking into the sea. It's not super clear why, like he barely knew Ji-won, and it felt really pathetic. I preferred the car accident.
Webtoon did it better! Su-min killing Min-hwan's mom
This didn't even come close to happening in the drama, but Su-min comes home to find the MIL from Hell having a stroke and then just turns around and leaves her on the floor. When it looks like she might recover, Su-min injects air into her veins and she dies. Su-min goes to prison for this as she doesn't kill her husband. Anyway, the drama showed us MIL very sad after her son's death, but I preferred this ending since she spent so long abusing Ji-won in the original timeline.
Drama did it better! Not So Much Love Triangle
Poor Eun-ho spent a lot more time pining after Ji-won in the webtoon. Happy that he got resolution there. Also, never felt like Eun-ho had a chance in the drama which I preferred.
Webtoon did it better! Eun-ho & Hui-yeon
I couldn't believe how little screen time these cuties got! Give me Hui-yeon proposing (at least she confessed first), give me them being in love! Why was Eun-ho not in the time-jump scene at the end?
Toss-up: Mr. Lee & Mrs. Yang
I liked the character of Mr. Lee better in the drama, but I liked Mrs. Yang's story better in the webtoon. Mr. Lee is way too nice in the webtoon, I liked his supportive and yet kind of rude persona in the drama. However, I wanted more of their story, in the webtoon Mrs. Yang's ex tries to kidnap their daughter as leverage, which is stopped, and then Mr. Lee has a very cute relationship with Mrs. Yang's daughter, who asks her mom if she'll marry Mr. Lee. We didn't really get any confirmation that they would end up together in the drama!
Drama did it better! Min-hwan's ending
Was it so satisfying to see him get the same ending he gave to Ji-won? Yes it was. In the webtoon, he sabotages his own car hoping that Su-min will die and he'll get the inheritance money. But then he drives his car to see his mom (after her stroke) and drives off a bridge. I liked this ending better.
Drama did it better! Mains as Parents
I felt like the webtoon went a little too far in making Ji-hyuk the only providing parent. I'm all for women working, but it just seemed unrealistic to me. I liked seeing both of them exhausted on the couch with their twins.
Toss-up: Plots that I Didn't Love
I really disliked Yu-ra in the drama, who I guess had to be included so she could take Ji-hyuk's fate. I think the webtoon was smart to cut her and I found her really annoying and over the top. However, I also didn't love the plot in the webtoon where Ji-won catfishes both Su-min and Min-hwan so that she can reproduce the betrayed by a friend thing. So I guess they both struggled with the third act.
Webtoon did it better! ML Doesn't Inherit
In the webtoon, Ji-hyuk decides to run his own security company and Ji-won continues at the original company. I guess the drama preferred a super rich power couple, but the webtoon was better in that way for me. I didn't love Ji-won becoming a stereotypical rich wife with a charity...
Webtoon did it better! MORE CAT
Pang (mold) the cat has a whole chapter from his POV in the webtoon. It was so cute!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Drama did it better! The Family Dinner
Honestly, I didn't think anything could top the webtoon's family dinner where Ji-won shows up in her revenge get-up, but I just loved Ji-won flipping Min-hwan so much!
Tumblr media
Lastly, the drama really made Min-hwan and Su-min great characters. All the awards for Su-min's actress especially. Those two really came alive in a way that the webtoon just didn't do.
(and yes, I know the drama was based on the original webnovel but I'm not reading that, I like webtoons, and both are adaptations so fair comparison).

FAN ( 1 ) super-rude idol!
Tumblr media
You texted the groupchat, after being a bit lost at the ceremony you were at with your group, walking fast to your table, not looking at where you're walking and instead at your phone - waiting for one to respond, - causing you to bump into someone.
"Aaah- I'm so sorry!" You said quickly before looking up at the person with intentions to apologize.
Your heart froze.
It was THE Lee Felix. (Yeah, the one from Stray Kids.)
He laughed sweetly, his usual friendly smile bright on his face. "It's fine, really. S/N, right?" He waved at you, even if you were close to him.
"I- Uh.. yeah." You nodded quickly. "I- I have to go- Nice meeting you!" You said with nervousness in your voice, going fast to your table.
Holy sh*t. You so screwed that up.
You sat at your table, face in your hands as you sort of beat yourself up mentally, before a notification slaps you out of your trance.
Tumblr media
You sighed, setting your phone on the table as the homescreen flashed "7:56", letting you know the speech for the awards were going to start soon, the ceremony itself.
Minsun, Hwan and Zai arrived that same minute, sitting at the table next to you.
"What happened, Y/N?" Hwan asked first, as you slowly explained what had happened beforehand, beating yourself up for it. "Gosh, I probably sounded like such a b*tch."
Zai laughed. "Yeah, you really did." She repeated.
Minsun slapped her arm playfully. "Zai! Not the time!" The eldest scolded their maknae, which simply stuck her tongue out teasingly.
"Gosh, Y/N, don't worry about that. It's not like he's the type hold a grudge. A simple apology would fix it." Zai said, drinking out her glass.
You sighed. "But what if he thinks I'm one of those idols who act all friendly on camera but off-camera they're actually super rude?!" You panicked.
"Y/N, Zai's right. You should just go and talk to him!" Hwan agreed, and you did aswell after a short moment, but the moment you stood up, a"Welcome everyone!" was heard comimg from the mic.
"Fuck." You said underneath your breath.
"That's what you get for overthinkin' so much, now sit down, Y/N, It'll be fine." Zai said, as you begrudgingly agreed, sitting down.

Gwi-nam's POV
Chang-hoon and I were standing in the balcony that overlooked the front yard. He was talking about trying to hook up with some girl, and I was nodding my head here and there to make it look like I was paying attention.
"What has you so distracted?" That made me look at him. He had one eyebrow raised as he took a sip of his drink.
"Nothing."
"Na, na. You have been distracted lately. Ever since that new girl came to school."
"Pfft. You are seeing things." I said to him.
"Come on, man. I haven't said anything to Myeong-hwan or Hyeon-ju."
Tumblr media
He had a point, but I wasn't going to let him know that. He could use it against me later on or have Myeong-hwan attention turn to her.
"Speaking of YN, there she is with her friends."
"The way you are talking about her, it seems like you like her." I told him as I turned my head, and he was right.
This is probably the first time I have seen her in clothes that weren't our school uniform.
Wearing a short black dress, with knee-high boots. I want her to see those boots on her every damn day.
Chang-hoon let out a whistle as he too seemed to get a good look at the three of them.
"Who knew they were hiding that underneath their uniforms. Let's go and see your girl."
"She is not my girl." I said as the two of us left the balcony.
"Good to know." The asshole said with a stupid smirk on his face.
As I walked down the stairs, I looked over the crowd of people, searching for any sign of YN, but my heart dropped to my stomach when I saw her talking to Lee Su-hyeok.
Tumblr media
YN'S POV
The party was in full swing when Sun-Hee and Jang-Mi and I finally arrived. The two of them switched outfits at least 3 or 4 times.
I asked them why, and Sun-Hee told me that they just wanted to look good. I told myself I didn't care what the hell I was wearing, but I was lying to myself.
I kept checking my makeup and my outfit anytime we walked past a reflective surface just to make sure it was still perfect.
It was nice to be looked at by people as we walked past them into the house. Sun-Hee and Jang-Mi pointed to what I am assuming is the kitchen to get the drinks while I went to find Gwi-nam.
He told me he would see me at the party after he left me to deal with the librarian who gave me a lecture about making better life choices.
I didn't want to come after that, but I gave in knowing that he could just show up at my house, so I only came for him, but I bumped into Lee Su-hyeok, probably the most popular guy at Hyosan High.
I almost lost my footing, but he gripped my shoulders to steady me.
"You okay?" He asked me. I nodded my head yes.
"You're YN, right?"
"Yeah, and you're Lee Su-hyeok. Have you seen you around with Gyeong-su and Cheong-san." His eyes seemed to light up at that.
We got talking, but I kept looking for Gwi-nam. Su-hyeok is nice and all, but he seems a bit too sweet for me.
"What are the bracelets for?" I looked down at them and held up the remaining 11.
"Just a gift from my best friend back at my old school." He went to open his mouth, but he closed it and took a step back. His gaze was no longer on me, but behind me.
I turned and could see a very angry looking Gwi-nam coming my way, but he too was just focused on Su-hyeok.
I gripped his arm as hard as I could to try and get him to focus on me or anything else that wasn't Su-hyeok, but that didn't help.
He gripped Su-hyeok by his collar and shook him and got really close and said something to him.
Gyeong-su and Cheong-san came rushing through the crowd to stand with their friend, but they too took a step back once they saw me. They diverted their gaze but stood their ground as well.
I pulled on Gwi-nam's arm, but that didn't do anything. So I let go of him and just walked away, ignoring the whispers.
I needed some fresh air, so I went to the backyard, which was filled with people, drinking, smoking and making out.
I was only out there alone for a short time before I heard the angry stomps coming towards me. I turned and saw Gwi-nam, and his fist was bloody and bruised.
"What the hell was that?" I asked him.
"I could be asking you the same thing." His voice was low, but angry.
"I can talk to whomever I want. You don't own me, Gwi-nam." His hand quickly reached up and gripped my throat. My hands were trying to pull his hand away from my throat.
"You may think that there, Princess, but you get one thing straight. You are mine and mine alone." He finally let go, and I was gasping for air.
I fucking hate myself for how turned on that made me, but I was angry. So very angry.
"Fuck you Gwi-nam."
"Soon enough, sweetheart." I wanted to wipe that smug look off of his face, so I grabbed his hand and placed it on my arm and with his hand, I snapped the purple one.
Wearer is willing to kiss a partner of either sex
I held it up and showed him, placed it in his open hand, and pretended to lean in to kiss him.
"You think I am going to kiss you? Like I said, fuck you."
I grabbed the person who was walking past us and smashed my mouth against theirs. Their arms were flailing, but then they settled on my hips and pulled me flush against their body.
But I had enough of kissing this person, so I pushed them away and finally saw who it was, Park Yae-Joon.
"You done there, Princess?" Gwi-nam calmly asked. Almost too calm.
"Run." I said to Yae-Joon, who didn't wait and ran.
"Don't worry, I'll deal with him later. Now, to deal with you."
