batiatus really down plays just how goddamn clever he really is and i love it. like he and lucretia have that whole argument about what's going to happen when sura gets there. and batiatus is like don't worry about it, i got it covered. and then just as she does get there, she dies in sparty's arms and batiatus turns to lucretia with this look and says "my word is kept, they are reunited." all but saying that this had more or less been the plan from the start LIKE SIR THAT IS SO COLD and despicable but also absolutely brilliant

Happy Birthday John David Hannah born 23rd April 1962 in East Kilbride.
Hannah attended Heathery Knowe Primary School then Claremont High School in East Kilbride and on leaving school was an apprentice electrician for four years. He gave up his work as an electrician after being accepted to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.
After a few years cutting his teeth in TV shows likeThe Bill, Boon and of course Taggart, Hannah finally got his ‘big break’ when he was cast as Matthew in Four Weddings and a Funeral, since then he has made a name for himself on both stage and screen. His most notable roles have been as Quintus Lentulus Batiatus in the American television series Spartacus, Rutger Simon in Damages and Jack Roper in New Street Law, film roles include the two “Mummy” movies, Tam McGraw in The Wee Man and James Hammerton in Sliding Doors. John also helped Edinburgh Zoo celebrate its centenary in 2013 by narrating a BBB documentary on the tourist attraction's history, getting up-close-and-personal with the zoo's furry residents by launching a newly refurbished koala enclosure.
Hannah was in the Slovakian film The Auschwitz Report in 2021, based on a true story it is about two prisoners of the infamous Extermination camp who manage to escape with details about the camp's operation including a label from a canister of the pesticide Zyklon-B.
More up to date he was in an excellent episode ofrthe hit series, post apocalyptic series The Last of Us in 2023. he also appeared in the most recent series of Black Mirror set in Scotland. called Loch Henry about a young couple travel to a sleepy Scottish town to start work on a genteel nature documentary - but find themselves drawn to a juicy local story involving shocking events of the past.
Look out for David in his latest movie, Damaged, which he costarswith Hollywood A-ist actor Samuel L Jackson, this too is filmed in several Scottish locations across the Edinburgh area. We see the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Calton Hill, the Forth Road Bridge and several other local spots like Bathgate and Livinston in the trailer, Gianni Capldi is also in the film.
He has several other projects on the go, so is not short of work.

Army of the Devas: Wrath of the Phoenix
by Kira_Dattei
The Oni Hajime has made his move against the Devas and it is so much worse than anyone thought it could have been. Many are dead and the world is vulnerable to even more death as the Devas have been crippled far beyond being able to protect people. But not all the Devas are dead. There are still many who have been targeted by Hajime before and now they are being called together to strike back against Hajime once and for all.
Nasir was targeted by Hajime once, who tried to kill him because his disposition might be a threat. Now, he and Agron are working with all the others that have been called together to face Hajime, to help take him down. They don’t know if they’ll succeed but they won’t give up trying. They’ll keep trying and learn more than they ever imagined along the way.
Takes place immediately after Attack of the Oni: Instinct of the Paladin (Part 10 of series) You don't need to have read all the other works in the series to understand everything but that one-shot would be handy to have read.
POV will not leave Agron and Nasir but the story will feature characters from other fandoms of the series.

I made the executive decision to inflict the Callisto HTLJ crossover episode on my friends before we watched A Necessary Evil (because I didn't know about it the first time I watched XWP and was extremely confused about how Callisto got out of Tartarus and became immortal) and I'm glad I did but not only did we have to endure almost 45 minutes of Kevin Sorbo, I also now have the HTLJ theme music stuck in my head :( I have absolutely nothing but respect for Joseph LoDuca but holy fuck XWP's music is so much better than HTLJ's. Also Kevin Smith without facial hair is kind of cursed, ngl. Also the guy who played Jason I think also played the dad of the twink of the week in Chariots of War and, if I'm not mistaken, also played the father of Quintus Lentulus Batiatus in Spartacus? That man truly was Assigned Dad At Renaissance Pictures Production

the entire thing is very complicated. and terrible as a person that batiatus is, he’s not without heart or empathy. again this absolves him of nothing when it comes to his actions. but i do think beyond just like the very most basic needs being met, batiatus did care about his gladiators. this really doesn’t earn him any brownie points, because a lot of it ties into batiatus knowing and seeing potential. however we know both both oenomaus and crixus were nearly killed by theokoles. there’s a lot less detail when it comes to oenomaus but with crixus, a ton of time, care effort was put into his recovery. crixus was losing batiatus money and yet, even tho the idea was bounced around, the effort put into his recovery was never pulled. yes this does tie into a lot of the potential batiatus has a keen eye for. but he in fact did not have to do any of that. he does sort of have this bleeding heart in a sense, and he is seen as kinda an outlier for it and there’s a lot of manipulation at play when it comes to winning the loyalty of his men. we see it with spartacus, we see it with ashur, we see it with barca (whose death is one of the most painful because of it. and barca's death deserves it's own post tbh), we see it with oenomaus. and i really don’t think it’s entirely faked. batiatus’ reaction to barca possibly disobeying him, and the way ashur plays on that to his own advantage says as much. and later spartacus does this too. and as much as it works in his favor, the weird sense of compassion batiatus has ends up working against him.

More up to date we saw John in the BBC Drama Trust Me and The Victim, both partly set in Scotland, The Canadian medical drama, Transplant and the must see The Auschwitz Report he true story of Freddy and Walter – two young Slovak Jews, who were deported to Auschwitz in 1942. He was also on our screens in an episode of the excellent Last of Us this year. He has several new projects on the go right now.
Hannah is married to actress Joanna Roth who was also in Sliding doors, they have two children. In many of his interviews he mentions stories from their relationship, such as the visit to London's 'Sri Siam' restaurant where he proposed to her in writing on the tablecloth
He supports the Epilepsy Association of Scotland and was, for a long time, a spokesman for Oxfam’s Cut Conflict Campaign.

also when batiatus chooses numerius choice over varro’s life, that is the exact moment the tide shifts as he losses any and all of spartacus’ loyalty, and he begins to question everything. that’s the moment where batiatus sealed his own fate
