Please imagine if the bros stayed the same teeny tiny size they were immediately post mutation, but were still super powerful regardless.

As promised, to show my thanks for getting Grown Apart AU through to the next @tmntaucompetition round - here's a little bonus treat:
A visual chart detailing all the major character relationships in the AU's first act! Enjoy!
(Click "keep reading" for some additional information on a few of the dynamics shown above.)
Splinter & Mikey - When the boys were still very small, Splinter used to take them with him on his excursions out of the sewers (either to get supplies or to search for the two missing turtles). During one of these trips, Mikey got separated from his dad and brother - they eventually found him, mostly unharmed, but the traumatic experience left a lasting mark on Splinter and he has worried about his youngest son ever since.
Leo & Raph - Leo and Raph are the first of the estranged brothers to meet, face-to-face. Raph finds Leo snooping around Draxum's lab and attacks him. Leo manages to escape, with his newly acquired portal sword, but the lab is destroyed in the clash. The two proceed to fight each other on multiple occasions after this, forming a sort of battlefield rivalry.
Donnie & Mikey - By complete and total coincidence, Donnie ends up saving Mikey's life after Draxum drops him off the roof of a building. Mikey takes this as evidence that Donnie is a good person and decides to trust him (despite Leo's protests). Realizing this, Donnie uses Mikey's "misplaced" trust in him as a ticket into the Hamato residence so that he can hide out there until he's apprehended the oozesquitos.
Raph & BM's Assistant - Although Big Mama and Draxum don't work together often, their business does tend to intersect on occasion. Because of this, Raph has had the odd encounter with Big Mama's masked companion. They've never spoken, though (not that BMA would speak even if they had gotten the chance).
Donnie & Raph - They're aware of each other's existence, thanks to their parents' occasional dealings, but haven't actually seen or spoken with each other. Big Mama largely limits Donnie's interaction with anyone outside of herself and hotel staff, and she's especially reluctant to let him meet other mutants (once she learns of their existence) or Draxum. This hasn't stopped him from listening in on some of her business chats via his surveillance tech and finding things out that way, though. Raph only knows Donnie as Big Mama's mechanic and the one responsible for her criminal empire's recent upgrade in technological advancements.
Splinter & Leo - Because of the incident that occurred when they were younger, Splinter has always had a soft spot for Mikey. Leo doesn't exactly resent this fact, but he does often feel like he gets short-changed on all accounts - when Splinter isn't around, Leo is responsible for keeping them both safe and out of trouble. When Splinter IS around, a majority of his limited attention generally gets directed towards Mikey. Thanks to this, Leo is left feeling both a little attention-starved and desperate for some independence. He's too proud to admit to his dad that he feels unseen, though, so he instead opts for causing a little mischief to get the desired attention.
Raph & Mikey - After learning that Raph is not only a mutant, like himself and Leo, but that they were created by the same person - Mikey becomes determined to befriend him and change his mind about humanity. He considers Raph part of the family - even before finding out that Lou Jitsu is their real father, thus making him their real brother. Raph doesn't quite share the sentiment, though - as far as he's concerned, Mikey's the one who's on the wrong side of the fight and no amount of niceness is going to convince him otherwise. (It does, however, make it a lot harder to hate him...)
Donnie & BM's Assistant - These two have a history that goes back several years and has soured with time...on Donnie's end, at least. He used to be close to BMA, considered them a friend for a little while, then something happened to change his opinion of them and caused him to see them as a rival. But what about BMA? What effect, if any, did the loss of Donnie's trust and friendship have on them? As with all things surrounding this character, it's a mystery...

Deep Waters
Pairing: Leo x GN!Reader
Angst with a happy ending!
Summary: You and Leo decide to take a trip to the beach, but things quickly go south when you are caught up in a riptide you can’t escape from.
Warnings: Drowning, riptides, near-death experience, mild cursing, slight innuendos
Word Count: 4.2K (this got away from me REAL fast lmao)
A/N: Hey and welcome to my first one-shot! Actually, welcome to my first fanfic in general! I just couldn’t get this idea out of my head and figured someone else might enjoy the pain I put this poor turtle through. Hope you enjoy! (I promise it’s a happy ending!)
As soon as the two of you made your way through the portal onto the sandy shore, the slider made a beeline for the water, and dragged you along with him. You squealed and giggled as you nearly tripped over your own feet in your haste to keep up with your boyfriend. When you finally reached the water, he let go of your hand and splashed in with so much force you found yourself covered in the spray. Squealing again from just how cold it is, you reached out to smack him for the sudden drenching, but he was already out of reach.
---------------------------------------
The beach was your idea, but with how Leo commandeered the whole trip, you’d think he had come up with it all on his own.
You laughed and waded farther into the water, letting it reach midway to your thigh. You watched as Leo continued to swim and splash in the water. A soft smile tugged at your lips as you were unable to stop yourself from marveling at just how natural he looked in the water, how happy. The last few months had been difficult for everyone in your little turtle family. Healing from the devastation the Krang had left behind was nothing short of challenging, and even that word seemed too insignificant to cover all of the hardships and breakdowns you all weathered (and continued to work through). You fought back a shiver thinking of those strains, of everything you lost and the more you could have. It all made these moments, however small, that much more meaningful.
You had him, and he had you, and in this moment that was enough.
Unaware of your train of thought, Leo finally took a break from his splashing around to face you, a look of unadulterated joy and contentment gracing his usually tense features. Your smile widened as he smirked and made his way towards you, mischief dancing in his eyes.
“And what are you doing all the way over here?” he asked, wrapping his wet arms around your waist, causing you to shiver against the cold.
“Oh you know me, just enjoying the view,” you replied with a smirk of your own, hands resting naturally on his plastron.
“I knew you were just into me for my looks,” he said as his smirk widened.
“Well it certainly wasn’t for your subtlety.”
He laughed as his hands tightened on your waist. “Oh I’ll show you subtlety.” You squealed as you felt yourself being lifted out of the water and thrown back in away from the shore. You splashed back to the surface with a gasp and pushed your now drenched hair back from your face, hearing Leo laughing all the while.
“Leo! I was trying to keep the salt out of my hair!” You crooned half-heartedly as you tried to ring the saltwater from your hair.
“You thought you were going to go to the beach with an aquatic turtle and not swim? Pft, I thought you would know better than that.” With a flick of his hand, Leo sent a small wave of water splashing into your face. You cried out, trying your best to protect your hair from the assault, but the attempt was futile. Oh is that how he wants to play this? With another cry, this time of determination and vengeance, you jumped on him, pushing him beneath the waves. The two of you grappled with one another, playful sending splashes into the other’s faces.
“Well sorry not all of us are literally born to be in the water!” You exclaimed after you’ve both calmed from your small battle. You wrapped your arms around his neck to keep yourself from floating too far from his warmth, and his hands found their way to naturally sit on your hips.
“Are you finally admitting that I’m better than you at something?” You rolled your eyes at the challenging spark in his gaze.
“Oh no no no, I never said that. Aquatic turtle or not, I’m sure I can match you stroke for stroke.” To emphasize your words, you released one of your hands from their hold around your boyfriend’s neck and lightly dragged a finger down his arm. You felt a shiver run through him that you were sure had nothing to do with the chill water now up to both of your shoulders. You fought to keep the victorious smile from your lips and maintained a look of innocent neutrality.
Leo’s hold on your hips tightened as he pulled you even closer, your bodies now flush together. “Care to test that theory?” he breathed, lips just inches from yours. A soft laugh escaped you, blowing a breath of hot air over his lips. He closed his eyes and leaned in.
But you weren’t going to let him win that easily.
“Sure,” you said, too loudly for the intimacy of the moment, as you gently pushed away. You laughed at the startled expression on your boyfriend’s face, his arms still out stretched to where you had been just seconds before. You could already hear the whine of him missing the feel of you in his arms, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t miss that same warmth. But you’d be damned if you let him get the better of you. “So how about a race? Last one to that buoy,” you pointed to a small floating figure a few yards away, “has to give the other one thing of their choosing.”
Upon hearing this, Leo’s dejected face lit up with mischief. “Anything of their choosing?” He asked, trademark smirk already back in place. God that mouth was going to be the death of you.
“Within reason,” you replied, the same mischief dancing in your eyes.
He made a face and looked to sky as if thinking long and hard about the proposition. “Okay, but you can’t whine and be a sore loser when I win,” Leo said as he drew his shoulders back and stretched his arms. You gently shook your head, knowing regardless of how this race ended you would be anything but a loser.
“Don’t be so sure of yourself, Faceman,” you scoffed, lining yourself up next to Leo to create a makeshift equal starting point. “Ready?” At his nod, you continued, “On my mark. Three, two...” before you finished the countdown, you took a large breath and dove into the water, making sure to create as big of a splash as possible as you vehemently kicked your legs. Hopefully the spray and slight head start would distract Leo just enough to give you a chance at reaching the buoy first.
You felt your heart racing as you kept pushing your arms and legs to move you forward in the water. If you weren’t underwater, you would’ve laughed at the burst of adrenaline you felt pulse through you. It had been so long since you felt such a surge of energy in a playful manner and not during a fight for your life. You relished in the feel of your body humming as you continued to push yourself towards the buoy and the tantalizing prize it held.
The salt of the ocean stung your eyes and turned everything around you into a blurry background. Luckily, you could still make out the faint shadow and shape of the buoy just a few feet ahead. With another frantic kick of your legs, you angled your body upwards, head breaking the surface of the water with a gasp as you take in some much needed oxygen. You treaded water for a moment as you gathered your bearings, praying you wouldn’t be met with the smug face of your favorite turtle in blue. Pushing your now thoroughly salt-infused hair out of your face (Oh April is going to have WORDS about your hair care later, you’re sure of it), you glanced around the buoy. A smirk found its way to your face as you noticed the only sign of him was the bubbles and ripples coming from where you came. You let out a “Whoop!” knowing you’d managed to best the turtle literally at his own game. Oh you are never going to let him live this one down!
Judging by the speed and movement of the bubbles and ripples heading your way, you guessed you had maybe thirty seconds before Leo reached you. Still riding high on the adrenaline of the game (and the fact that you actually won), you quickly maneuvered yourself to the other side of the large buoy, hiding and thinking of the best way to make a dramatic reveal that even Donnie would be envious of.
But that moment never came.
As you leaned back against the buoy, hands covering your mouth as you tried to contain your giggling, you suddenly felt your legs aggressively swept from under you. In a split second, your body was being quickly and roughly pulled back into the water by an impossibly strong current, farther from the shore and away from the buoy. Away from Leo.
You involuntarily let out a small yelp as you are suddenly dragged under the water, causing the air to leave your lungs and water to take its place. You frantically start to move your arms and kick your legs, trying to make your way back to the surface. But which way was the surface? The riptide, as you quickly realized it to be, had you pinned in its current, spinning and pulling you around so you no longer knew which way was up. You had no idea which direction the surface and the air you so desperately needed were. For all you knew, you could be pushing yourself further down into your own demise. With that realization, panic truly set in. The ripples of adrenaline that were so thrilling earlier now turned the blood in your veins to ice.
Your lungs burned as they fought for oxygen, and pretty soon you could no longer resist your body’s urge to take a breath. Sea water once again filled your mouth and your lungs, causing the burning to intensify. You couldn’t think, couldn’t call for help, couldn’t find a way out. This was it. You’d fought aliens and mutants for years, but this unrelenting force of nature is what was going to finally kill you.
As your vision began to grow dark, you thought of your life. All you had seen and done. Late night pizza and game nights with the turtles. Nights out on the town with April. And most of all, Leo. Cuddling with him on the couch. The small smile he saved for you and only you. The way he would grab you from behind and nuzzle his face in the crook of your neck when you weren’t looking. The two of you dancing around the kitchen as you laughed and your dinner inevitably burned on the stove.
You kept your thoughts focused on those blissful memories, those moments of happiness, as you finally succumbed to the dark.
----------
“On my mark. Three, two...” Leo was suddenly blinded as a large spray of water hit his face, causing him to sputter and frantically wipe at his eyes, even if his turtle biology meant he really didn’t need to. By the time he opened them again, he saw that you were already a few yards ahead.
“Hey that’s cheating!” he yelled with a laugh before diving in himself.
Splashing and playing around in the water had been amazing, but this? This was a completely different story. He could feel himself swiftly glide through the water as he swam with all his strength, unleashing his pent up tension on the now churning waves. His arms and legs burned slightly from the exertion, and he reveled in it. Reveled in the complete freedom he felt as he quickly chased after you.
Even from so many yards away, the bubbles caused by your frantic kicking obstructed his view of you. Anxiety at not being able to see you niggled at the back of his brain, but he pushed it down. You were here, right in front of him, with no one else around for miles. You were safe.
And beating his ass.
Leo put on another burst of speed, trying to think of any way he could gain an edge on the lead you had so unfairly taken. He already knew exactly what he was going to do with his prize, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to let your underhanded start to the race derail his plans.
He thought back to the way you had looked after he had dunked you in the water, skin glittering in the dying light, lovely curves framed in the sunset reaching the horizon behind you. Your beaming smile (even as you berated him for the state of your hair) left him breathless in a way the pushing surf could never do on its own. You were the picture of perfection. He still couldn’t believe that after all these years you were his.
The smile his thoughts pulled to his face dropped an inch as he realized the bubbles leading to the buoy had stopped, meaning you had made it to the finish line. Damn it! He resigned himself to the gloating you were sure to subject him to as he angled himself towards the surface.
“Okay there’s no way that counts! You so cheated at the beginning!” Leo was already exclaiming as his head broke the surface of the water. He looked around, his feigned exasperation turning into confusion when he wasn’t met with your bragging smirk. You had beaten him, hadn’t you? Surely he hadn’t bypassed you without knowing it. He looked back the way you both had come, but sure enough there were no ripples, bubbles, or you to be found.
“Y/N?” he said, anxiety again starting to pull at the back of his mind. He took a deep breath. Surely you were just wanting to rile him up for a grand reveal, or maybe you wanted to jump out and scare him. With this thought in mind, he edged around the buoy to see if maybe you were hiding there, but the other side remained empty as well. Swimming closer, he felt a slight tug and surge of water around his legs, the remnants of what must have been a strong current now fading away. A strong current...
Leo felt his heart seize as he looked past the buoy and into the vast open water beyond. He remembered his father’s warnings about riptides and the immense power and danger they possess. Leo himself had never really been afraid of them, after all he was predisposed to be a natural in the water. But you on the other hand...
He dove back into the water, steering himself in the direction of the current. His mind was spinning with dread as he pushed his arms and legs hard and fast. How long ago had the riptide taken you? What if it had changed directions? What if it had dragged you even further down? What if he couldn’t find you? What if, if he did, it was too late?
He shook off the thoughts with a growl, even as his chest tightened in panic. No, he would find you. After all you had been through together, all the plans you still had yet to do, there was no other option. He frantically scanned the water ahead of him, double checking every bubble and varied flicker of light, straining for any sight of your bright blue swimsuit. The very ocean and sun above seemed to be mocking him with short glimpses that turned out to just be tricks of the light. Leo’s muscles burned, but he kept going, kept scanning, kept trying to calm the racing of his heart and the panic seizing every ounce of common sense he had left, until suddenly, there!
Just a few yards ahead, you were suspended in the water, limbs floating aimlessly above you, any fight you had clearly depleted. The bright blue of your swim suit shown against your skin like a beacon, and Leo made a beeline towards it. Just as he was a few feet away, arms outstretched towards you, he saw your eyes shutter and fall closed as the tension in your body seemed to leak out.
No, no no No NO NO NO! Leo wanted to scream, to cry, to beg you to hold on just a little longer. With another frantic kick, he reached you, arms encircling your now limp form, immediately angling his body upwards. He kicked and twisted his core until the two of you finally broke the surface, him gasping for air and you bone-chillingly silent in his arms.
“Y/N? Y/N?! Come on, please wake up, I’ve got you,” Leo looked down at you in his arms, one hand coming up to press against your face as he pleaded with you to just open your eyes and end this nightmare. But nothing changed. Your eyes remained resolutely shut, and your chest stayed still.
As the family medic, Leo was well-versed in CPR, but to do it in the middle of open water was out of even his abilities, and he knew it. He looked back to the shore. The riptide had dragged you about a half a mile away, well past the buoy and safe waters the two of you had enjoyed mere minutes ago. He had to get there, had to get you on land if he had even a chance at saving you.
“Hold on Y/N, I’ve got you, just please hold on,” his voice broke, but he looked determinedly back at the shore. Clutching you to his chest with one arm, he fought with all he had against the still fading current. He kicked his legs and surged the arm not holding you forward and back, trying desperately to keep your head above water. Leo watched as the shore slowly, too slowly, got closer and closer. His mind reeled with panic as he silently begged with the universe or anyone that would listen to get you both to the shore in time, to let your eyes open.
Finally, Leo reached the shallows of the beach. He planted his feet on the ocean floor and lifted you bridal style in his arms as he continued his race to the shore. He nearly fell, his body jarring as it shifted from the relative fluidity of the water to the harsh gravitational pull of solid land. He felt himself pitch forward, but managed to keep both of you upright on his shaky legs. As he ran, you stayed limp in his arms, head lolling back and arms dangling to the sides. Leo whimpered at the sight and pushed on until he finally made it the dry sand.
Immediately, he laid you on the ground and started doing chest compressions. His limbs were shaking both from the overexertion and the panic coursing through them, but he continued to apply rhythmic pressure, never faltering in the beat. After a few seconds, he lifted his face and shaky hand to yours, plugging your nose as he forced air back into your lungs. He couldn’t help the shiver of absolute dread as he felt just how cold and unmoving your usually plush and warm lips were against his own.
He pulled back and continued the cycle again, his movements and breathing becoming more and more frantic as time went on. “Please, please wake up. I can’t-” he choked back a sob, tears already flowing freely down his face. This was actually happening. He was losing you. He wasn’t fast enough, wasn’t strong enough. All those plans for the future had been ripped away and thrown into the deep waters. He was on his fourth cycle of chest compressions now, putting what little strength his adrenaline and panic would give him into the action. “Please mi amor, please, please, please,” he was too exhausted, too panicked to do anything but beg as he threw everything he had into saving you.
He looked down at your still expressionless face as he shifted his hand up to cup your jaw, a sob finally escaping his own lips. He brushed his thumb against your cool cheek before raising his hand back up to plug your nose so he could again try to breathe life back into you. As he angled his face downwards, your chest heaved and water gurgled from your mouth. Hope flaring, Leo quickly brought himself back upright and tilted you on your side, gently patting and then rubbing your back as you coughed and heaved sea water onto the beach.
After what felt like an eternity, water stopped pouring from your mouth and you were able to draw in a much-need, if shaky, breath. You heard a voice cooing at you from above, telling you to breathe, that you were okay, that you were safe. You latched onto the voice, even though you couldn’t see its owner. Breathe, okay, safe. You followed the voice, breathing in as much air as your battered lungs would allow. You stared at the infinite shore ahead of you as it all came rushing back. The race, the riptide, the endless pushing and pulling you down, down, down. Your shoulders shook as you struggled to draw in breath again. You had drowned. You had been dragged deep into the waters, never to see your family again, never to see Leo again. But here you were, on the shore, out of the water’s devilish grasp. The voice continued its mantra, and you felt soothing circles being rubbed into your back. That voice. You’d know it anywhere, how could you not?
You shifted your weight so that you laid on your back and no longer stared at the expanse of water. You looked up, and there he was, tears still streaking down his face as his eyes scanned yours and landed on your gaze. For a moment you both just looked at each other, the only sounds being your grating breaths and the crashing of the ocean behind you. He was here. Despite the water’s attempts, you were here, looking into his beautiful, heartbroken face. The terror was still there, but hope surged in his eyes as he continued to look at you, still silent for once, almost as if not wanting to disrupt the dream.
Not breaking eye contact, you reached up a shaky hand and cupped his cheek, thumb rubbing away some of the tears. He immediately leaned into the touch, a shuttering breath ripping out of him. “Oh Leo,” you managed to croak.
That seemed to break the trance. The tears renewed their freefall as Leo’s face crumbled. He pulled you into his arms until you were sitting in his lap and crushed you to his chest. You wrapped your arms around his neck as he buried his face in the crook of yours, letting out shuttering sobs that broke your heart. As he had done for you earlier, you whispered comfort into his ears, saying you were all right, that you were here. You felt your own eyes misting over as he desperately clutched to you, still shaking with emotion.
You stayed like that for a long time, Leo’s sobs slowly quieting and his shaking lessening. Finally, he pulled back just enough to see your face, which was now wet with your own tears. Ever so gently, he lifted his hand to trail his fingers along your face, wiping away the wetness he found there. Closing his eyes, he pressed your foreheads together. “I thought I’d lost you,” his whispered, a single tear escaping his closed lids.
Your chest ached at the utter agony that laced those few words. You couldn’t imagine what he had just gone through, seeing you so unresponsive, dragging you to shore. If the roles had been reversed... You shuddered at the thought.
“I know love, I know. But I’m here, thanks to you.” You kept your hands interlocked around his neck, needing to keep him close. “It’ll take a lot more than a little water to take me away from you,” you reassured with a watery smile. At that he pulled slightly away and locked his gaze with yours. You sucked in a breath at the pain in his eyes.
Dragging your hands from his neck to his cheeks, you pulled his mouth towards you, sealing your declaration with a kiss. You felt him melt into the contact as his hands found your waist and pulled you that much closer to him. The kiss was soft, desperately slow, as if you were both trying to memorize the way the other moved and felt. Finally pulling away for breath, you rose your eyes to his, as you both finally relaxed into the comfortable silence.
“You know, even though I definitely won the race, I think I’ll give you the prize,” you said cheekily. You smiled as you were rewarded with a soft chuckle from Leo.
“You better, especially after you cheated to begin with,” he snarked back, lightly pinching your waist, causing you to squirm in his lap.
“And what does my hero wish to receive as his reward?”
His gaze softened, once again pulling you close. “Stay with me,” he whispered.
You felt yourself melt under the weight of his words. “Always.”

How ROTTMNT reacts to over stimulated reader
Tumblr media
This might be a tad bit self indulgent (but made to comfort all). Also appologies if any of these feel bland, exam prep has me tiredd.
Characters: Rise! Raphael, Rise! Leo, Rise! Donnie, Rise! Mikey, Rise April!
CW: None
Theme: General head cannons
Reader: Gn Reader
A/U: None
Premise: Headcannons on how the turtle bros and april help you when you're overstimulated
THIS IS SFW
..........................................................................
Tumblr media
RAPHAEL
Raph would notice you're not acting yourself right away
Would guide you to a safe quiet spot, usually his room
Locks the door but asks if you want him there with you or not
If you do he stays and tries to help you calm down
Makes you your safe food and some water
Very cautious about touch just incase it causes you to feel worse
Gives you headphones if your noise sensitivity is higher than usual
If you say you need space then he will guard the door
Tell anyone who passes to be quiet or not bother you
Once you've calmed down you two talk about it
What caused you to become overstimulated, was it something specific, ect.
Helps you avoid certain sensory things that may cause you to be overstimulated
If its during a mission, he'll find a secluded area and keep you safe while the others deal with the threat
Asks Donnie for help, mostly just books or research on how to help prevent overstimulation
Low lighting in his room is now a thing and you thank him for it
Will put on a soothing repetitive sound that helps you regulate your breathing
If your still a bit sensitive to everything around you, he'll act as a weighted blanket
He's trying his best to make sure you're okay
.....................................................................
Tumblr media
LEO
Poor dude doesn't really know what to do
Leo tries to make you laugh with his silly jokes but when those don't work he's sort of out of ideas
Does try to comply with your needs though
If you ask him to leave the room, he'll whine about it but leave eventually
Stays by the door though just incase you call for him
Does take some good sensory objects that he can find around the house to give to you
If you want him to stay with you he'll have a hard time trying not to talk constantly
Does ask how you're feeling
Tries to see how much of his voice you can handle as a signifier to see if you're calming down or not
Doesn't push and doesn't yell just humming a random song or talking about his day
Doesn't try to take your silence personal, but sometimes he can't help it
After the first overstimulation panic you had, Leo did research and asked his brothers questions about it
He gets better through each time you become overstimulated and tries his best to help and not make it worse
If you're on a mission or outside of the lair, he'll just portal you back home until you're either ready to continue the battle or you know you won't be able to continue
If you can't continue then he'll stay home with you, much to his brothers dismay
Tries to help you focus on your breathing by doing breathing techniques with you
Actually actively checks for any sign before you end up in a panicked state
Leo wants you to be safe and cope in healthy ways
.....................................................................
Tumblr media
DONNIE
Donnie understand what's going on right away
Actually catches signs of an overstimulation panic before it got to the extreme
Will do whatever he can to help
Does not really know how other than basic things like offering solitude and asking if you want touch or not
Does research however after
Actually starts to gain confidence on how to help you when you're overstimulated
Has a sign on his room for when you're using it as a sanctuary
And of course passer byers obey the sign
Does hold your hand if you're okay with touch
Also stashes of snacks are everywhere of your safe food
If you want to be alone in his room then he will leave reluctantly
While you're calming down, Donnie looks for the reason as to why you were overstimulated so he can help you avoid it and let people know
Gives you his sweater because its a cozy texture and it helps a lot of the time
If you happen to become overstimulated during a battle he calls S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N to come and fly you away
After the battle he will come find you and try to help you if you're still on edge
Has a special program around his tech to help you calm down if you become overstimulated when he's not there to help
Is very vigilant when you're around something that might trigger you to become overstimulated
Donnie is the most understanding and wants you to feel comfortable enough to cope
.....................................................................
Tumblr media
MIKEY
Mikey doesn't really let you become overstimulated to a point of extreme
Has taken the role of the therapist in his family so he has done a lot of research
Mikey also notices behavior changes when you're overwhelmed
If it does become extreme though, he'll text you and have you hide in a place comfortable to you
Not necessarily his room, but doesn't mind if that is the place you chose
Gives you things to distract yourself and to help you calm down
Most common is drawing your feelings with markers and paper
Does try to pay attention but sometimes gets distracted by other things
Mikey is sort of good with the comfort, but his attention goes everywhere most of the time
Does try to stay focused on your needs though
If you need alone time to help calm down he will respect that
If one of his brothers try to bother you, he will "gently" tell them not too
If you want him there then he's gladly to stay
Talks about things to distract you if talking doesn't make it worse
Will text instead if it does
If you become overstimulated during a battle, Mikey gives you noise cancelling headphones and a quick safety blanket
He is prepared for anything when it comes to you
Mikey wants you to feel your best!
.....................................................................
Tumblr media
APRIL
April is really chill when you become overstimulated
Does a quick google search to better understand what's happening to you
Did panic a bit because it happened all of a sudden
You two were just hanging out, you weren't having the best day and then boom tears started streaming down your face, words were hard, and you were upset stimming
Gave you her jacket as a way to help ground yourself
You just rubbed the clothe as she stayed close to you
If you needed space then she gave it to you, but wasn't far enough to make you feel unattended too
Will try other things that comfort you and help you calm down
Has your comfort food on hand just in case
She also has cold water on her too
April tries her best to accommodate to you and your needs when you become overstimulated
Finds a secluded area if possible and just is like your guard dog
If you two are in a battle and you're overstimulated then she is full protective mode
Has the turtle bros take care of the threat while she takes care of you
If you two are in a public area when you're overstimulated she'll hide you in an ally and have you calm down there
She takes you home when you're calm enough
Tends to take the more protective approach when you're overstimulated
April wants to protect you and make sure you don't get overwhelmed to often

silence is gold
Tumblr media
2024/01 (full view)
discourse is silver, silence is gold
I drew a gold bg with copics for something on non-tmnt acc and that got me in a mood. I went "huh, neat, liquid gold would be so nice" and then got hit with inspo and here we are. More input under the cut.
So, stay with me for a hot minute, this is not little Present Day Leon, this is Future Leonardo, but in baby, sorta. I just went with the notion of dripping gold and drew Leo and he became progressively more unsettled and then I was like "yeah no that is the Leo who had to go through live without his older self being there to pick up the pieces." Also F!Leo is, in my story, canonically deeply unsettled and lowkey terrified by larger bodies of water - so rule of the thumb could be that if I draw a Leo not having a good time with H2O it is probably F!Leo in his youth. Which will make sense once I get around to explain it organically in like.. what.. Chapter 2 maybe. (they say, having not even fully drafted Chapter 1, while already dreaming of Chapter 3) But while we are on that topic, one thing I could ramble about is that all the kids mystic powers are more rooted in elements, and here I had to play a bit fast 'n loose with both the 4 element and 5 element systems because I have six kids to account for so I hope I can be forgiven that Wood and Air exist both in this one. But yeah so Leo's mystic powers are related to water, the element fits him and in my head it makes the most sense to link his powers up to water, especially the portals when I think about how still waters and mirroring water surfaces are linked to doorways to other worlds, the afterlife, and so on. Imagine Leo just pulling the humidity right out of the air to manifest his portals or something like that. Manifesting swords outta thin air due to water. Also idk okay I just think, with water being so versatile, being wild and calm capable of changing on a dime, treacherous, nurturing, dangerous but without it we could not even exist. I always just linked Leo in general to water but that association runs all the way back to the 2003 series (I need to rewatch the 1987 series to see if the association hits me there too tbh)
But yeah, in general, I have a lot of concepts and little things that pop up while I focus on the core story and the element thing will come up here 'n there, but it ain't the main focus. I just think it is funny to mention how Leo's powers are absolutely based in the element water and F!Leo is terrified of water. (which will come up and become a rather important at some point both the why and what that meant for him and his powers or the lack thereof) I also have another picture in the works of Leo in the water, but it is little Leo who has no water based trauma so he is having a better time in the drawing than his counterpart.

28 and 29
I combined the two, hope you don’t mind! Also, um, I went a little far with this. Make sure to check the tags.
@daboyau
Leo thrashes around violently against the restraints keeping him to the table. The Kraang who brought him there had taken out his portaling ability the first chance they got. It feels like years since then. Maybe it has been. The Kraang aren’t exactly generous when it comes to their prisoners.
Especially not one they’re trying to break.
He stops moving as much when a certain former warring warrior scientist walks in. He was taken at the same time Leo was.
That doesn’t mean he’s also a prisoner though.
“I-I want to be mad at you, but you’re like this and Mikey isn’t….you turned into such a freaking softy. Sacrificing yourself for the greatest mystic warrior ever? He’s not even a kid anymore.” Leo scoffs.
Draxum’s half Kraang covered face doesn’t change expressions. It was worth a try. It’s not like this could get any worse. It is torture by the world’s evilest creatures after all.
He lifts up a syringe filled with a green substance.
“What….going to double mutate me? It’ll do exactly what you’re trying to avoid.” Leo insists.
The reason Leo isn’t part of the grossest shade of pink ever hive mind right now is because they want someone to infiltrate the resistance undetected. That means he can’t look like Draxum does right now.
It also means they have to get him under their control another way.
He had been kept in a cell for a long time before this. Every day, Draxum would come in and use something new on him to make sure he never got used to the torture.
Leo’s healing factor meant that it could go on for a long time. Wounds closing just to be torn open again. A fresh canvas to splash with blood.
Just recently, he’s been making a lot more serious escape attempts. He almost made it the other day. The Kraang were really pissed about it.
This is probably punishment.
Draxum injects the liquid into his vein and immediately it feels like his insides are on fire. He bites his lip so hard it bleeds. He’s shocked when it hasn’t begun to heal already.
There’s….no way he just….?
The pain throbs through his whole body and he can suddenly feel it where he hadn’t before. A broken ankle that he was able to walk on now is absolutely killing him.
His wrists burn and bleed from how much he just tried to free himself.
He really did it.
Draxum took his healing factor.
A saw appears in his line of vision that is pressed against his arm.
His cool persona starts breaking as he feels the words to beg for this not to happen on the tip of his tongue. They’re only barely held back by the fact he knows it’ll only encourage The Kraang.
Draxum begins sawing.
Slowly.
Leo feels the scream come deep from his core. The pain is completely unbearable. There’s absolutely no drug to get him through it.
He hears liquid dripping to the floor. It’s easy to imagine both the tears pouring from his face and wound mixing on the ground.
Leo starts passing out from the pain. He feels something else inject to his other arm and his brain buzzes back to life.
Adrenaline.
He’s keeping him from going to into shock. From passing out. From escaping the worst pain of his life.
It keeps going on and on. It’s so slow. He can feel when his nerves die and shut off. It’s only some.
He’s hitting bone he’s hitting bone he’s hitting bone he’s hitting bone he’s hitting bone he’s hitting bone he’s hitting bone-
Ah.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!
RAPH!! DONNIE!! MIKEY!!
DAD! GRAM-GRAM!
ANYBODY! PLEASE!
A wall blows open.
Finally, finally, something other than the sound of his flesh and tendons being torn through.
The saw stops as he’s vaguely aware of Draxum getting tossed so hard he’s not sure he’s ever going to get up again.
There’s screaming.
A lot of screaming.
Oh, he recognizes those voices.
He’s barely able to turn his head to look his family there.
His brothers and-
Ha.
Who’s letting Casey J.R. see this?
Gross!
Leo starts laughing.
His brothers all start trying to help him. Casey J.R. stays back, eyes wide and full of absolute fear.
Leo laughs more.
How awful.

Hi :D I love your new au!!
So for your prison dimension au, what’s up with draxum? Bc the turtles kinda thwart his second attempt at world domination when they’re older
And the Shredder? Is he tearing up NY? Or do the Foot never find out that Splinter has the final piece?
And in the inevitable future when the Foot get the key and open the portal, is anyone trying to stop them? Is there a Casey Jr in this au harbinging the apocalypse?
Back with the boys, do they know what happened? Why they’re trapped? I know in Mikey’s description the kraang see him as another way out so they make him practice, but did they explain it to them?
Are the dynamics between the kraang and the turtles in any way ‘nice’? Are they attached/loyal or waiting for an escape? If there are any differences there, does it create tension among the turtles?
Ok so sorry if that was too much I’m just really interested in what’s going on here. Again love love love your au
Have a nice day!
ah okay- so for the first couple questions,, i'm gonna go with the general answer of this takes place around the start of the first season,, so half of these things haven't happened yet,,
but i'm working on the actual plot stuff for most of the stuff regarding draxum,,, as well as what splinter is doing !!
as for the prison dimension key?? that's what the turtles exist for. their whole goal and purpose of their training is for mikey to portal the turtles back out so they can retrieve the key and open the real portal, thus actually freeing the kraang and technodrome.
the boys aren't exactly... fully aware... that they came from earth??? they obviously don't remember portalling to the prison dimension as babies. what they're essentially told is "we're trapped here, but orange has the mystic abilities to get out and find the key"
i would say the nicest dynamic between all the turtles/kraang would be purple and the little kraang, but even that's kinda iffy sometimes. that being said, they're all still loyal to the kraang. (leo being the most loyal,, but mikey probably being the first one to even consider not being loyal)
and that does indeed cause tension ! whoopsies

Okay so I'm not the best at questions but I thought up a couple for the triple divorce au
Have the boys ever accidentally been hurt by one of their parents while being kidnapped? Like maybe draxum's vines were a bit too strong, or big mama's goons a bit too rough?
How are their personalities different from cannon? They've been influenced by their parents, so obviously they wouldn't be quite the same. Donnie basically has (more) consistent access to praise from big mama, they probably aren't ignored as much between the three of them compared to just splinter, raph (and by extension the others) are encouraged to be violent by draxum.... So it would make sense if they were different from their cannon selves.
So, you've established that big mama has grown to love them (in her... Less than ideal way), and hopefully splinter does too, but does draxum care for them? Or does he just want them to exterminate the humans, and only sees them as a tool and something to work on, as well as use to be petty?
WHAT CRIMES HAVE THEY COMMITTED. SPILL THE TEA
So, splinter isn't as depressed, but does he still sort of ignore them due to emotions? Being an actor is probably exhausting sometimes, so maybe he's just so tired a lot, coupled with the fact that he doesn't get much time with them, that maybe he doesn't interact with them as much as the other two?
Have the boys ever been on the set with splinter (human form or otherwise)? Donnie specifically strikes me (and a lot of the fandom) as a theater kid, and maybe it'd provide some bonding time?
Does Hueso know about all the drama between the three parents? Like does Leo rant to him about it?
Do they all use their same weapons as in cannon? Do they use weapons at all? Do they use different ones, or a variety of them?
Expanding on the previous one, does Leo need to use swords to make portals? I've noticed that instead of swinging a sword around, he appears to just use his hands to create portals.
I just realized that was more than a couple. I kept thinking of more. I love your aus, and art! They're amazing!
YESSS triple divorce questions!!!!
1. Have the boys ever accidentally been hurt by one of their parents while being kidnapped? Like maybe draxum's vines were a bit too strong, or big mama's goons a bit too rough?
Very much so. It was worse when they were younger before Draxum and Big Mama actually started caring about them. Draxum less so because he didn’t want his experiments to be damaged but Big mama? Didn’t care much at all if the kids got roughed up by her goons, as long as she was there to tend to bumps and bruises, scolding her workers to gain favour from the boys. It's part of why the kids don’t fight back when they’re kidnapped. A sort of subconscious conditioning that they are less likely to get hurt if they go along with whoever.
2.How are their personalities different from cannon? They've been influenced by their parents, so obviously they wouldn't be quite the same. Donnie basically has (more) consistent access to praise from big mama, they probably aren't ignored as much between the three of them compared to just splinter, Raph (and by extension the others) are encouraged to be violent by Draxum.... So it would make sense if they were different from their cannon selves.
I won’t go into it individually but in general they’re more jaded I suppose? They had to deal with a lot growing up and now and they’ve sort of fallen into the realm of apathetic acceptance. And they are indeed more violent, not only from Draxum but they litrally grew up watching their three parental figures get into full blown battles all their life, plus their mama runs a fighting ring. To them violence is normalised and they don’t know what regular tolerances for that look like. Combine that with the fact they are spoiled rich kids who can get bailed out of consequences?
3.So, you've established that big mama has grown to love them (in her... Less than ideal way), and hopefully splinter does too, but does draxum care for them? Or does he just want them to exterminate the humans, and only sees them as a tool and something to work on, as well as use to be petty?
Draxum does care for them, in an also less than ideal way. He’s kinda like those parents who live vicariously through their kids, combined with an overzealous soccer mom.
4.WHAT CRIMES HAVE THEY COMMITTED. SPILL THE TEA
In order of who has committed the most crimes
Mikey - mostly arson some aggravated(and non aggravated) assault, vandalism
Donnie - Purple Dragons member, cybercrimes, lots of theft
Leo - has made it his goal to portal to different places and violate benign laws, breaking and entering, public disturbances
Raph - Usually a victim of wrong place at the wrong time but has caused his fair share of property damage
5.So, splinter isn't as depressed, but does he still sort of ignore them due to emotions? Being an actor is probably exhausting sometimes, so maybe he's just so tired a lot, coupled with the fact that he doesn't get much time with them, that maybe he doesn't interact with them as much as the other two?
Usually when the kids are with him Splinter insists they live normal human lives. He gave up on constantly trying to get them to school but he still encourages things like clubs and just generally hanging out being teens(all part of his being raised by the Hamato clan trauma). But for the kids it can often feel like getting shooed out of the house by their father during the little time they have together(and you know Splinter isn’t going to ACTUALLY communicate with them)
6.Have the boys ever been on the set with splinter (human form or otherwise)? Donnie specifically strikes me (and a lot of the fandom) as a theatre kid, and maybe it'd provide some bonding time?
All of the kids have been on set with him before. Being surrounded by people and security was one of Splinter's best ways to keep the other parents at bay. It was always in human form though as they all have cloaking broaches. So it was pretty common for one of the kids to step in for minor roles they needed children for. The only ones that have done big roles are Leo and Donnie. Donnie loves all the rehearsals and acting but hates the busy sets and bright lights. They have managed to get him in a voice acting gig a few times and he thrives in that. Leo’s definitely all in on the attention and grandeur of showbiz. However Mikey is trying to pump the break on any of them going down that path to avoid the child star pipeline(they already have enough trauma messing them up)
7.Does Hueso know about all the drama between the three parents? Like does Leo rant to him about it?
“Pepino I am not your therapist, if you are going to rant at least help wash dishes,”
Leo absolutely does. Hueso can roll his eyes all he likes but he ultimately encourages the behaviour. He is painfully aware that his restaurant is this kids one safe space. Also it is useful having constant tabs on the hidden cites two biggest crime bosses.
8.Do they all use their same weapons as in cannon? Do they use weapons at all? Do they use different ones, or a variety of them? does Leo need to use swords to make portals? I've noticed that instead of swinging a sword around, he appears to just use his hands to create portals.
Draxum would try to make them diversify and practise with a range of things but ultimately they prefer their mystic weapons like in the show. However they don’t use or carry them around much, preferring their mystic abilities. None of them actually need weapons to access their mystic powers. They’ve been practising the mystic arts since they were little and now it comes second nature to them. If they need their weapons, Leo can either portal them, or they can create some out of their own energy. It’s just not worth carrying around weapons when an overnight bag is far more useful to have on person.
To expand on that it’s worth it to say they’re powerful but not that powerful. Combat isn’t a focus of this au; it's all about the family drama. They definitely picked up more skills from their parents than their canonsselves did. But it’s not to the point they could take out any obstacles with ease.

Hoooooow about Leosagi First Meeting and Impressions?! Sprinkle in whatever you want in that, go wild! 👀
Ask and ye shall receive!

First Impressions
As far as first impressions go, this isn't the worst.
Sure, trying to save a stranger in the Hidden City from a gang of Yokai kidnappers (and look cool doing it as a treat) isn't an ideal way of making friends, but if it works, it works, right?
Except it didn't.
“Hey. Are you awake?”
Leo takes a deep breath and sighs. “Yup,” he pops, staring blearily at his lap. “Didn't sleep much anyways.”
“Me neither,” the stranger replies. Leo hasn't gotten around to asking him his name. Probably due to his plan to save him ending with Leo being beaten up, disarmed and kidnapped with him.
So, yeah. Not the best first impression.
Still, what was he supposed to do? Just ignore someone in danger? Even if they looked like they could handle themselves—the fight had been brief but Leo would be blind not to notice the rabbit Yokai's skill and grace with his blade, faster than anything Leo had ever seen.
Even so, the goons had numbers and size on their side, and really, Leo should have, could have, portalled them to safety rather than show off only to get rinsed. Pride will always be his downfall.
(And cute rabbit samurai boys, apparently.)
Leo squirms, adjusting his numb body as much as he's able. His ass is asleep, and he can't feel his fingers. “Yeah, sorry,” he mutters. “Turtles don't exactly make the best pillows.”
“No, that's not it.” The other boy shifts, tugging the ropes binding them back to back around their chests. His voice is rough with exhaustion, but Leo can hear a smile in it. “Your shell is actually quite comfy.”
“Oh,” Leo blinks. “Really?”
“Yes. It's the, uh... well, everything else that kept me awake. Also, I'm certain I've lost circulation in my wrists now.”
The boy flexes his fingers, accidentally brushing Leo's where they're tied behind his shell. He just fights a shiver. “Y-Yeah,” he clears his throat. “Yeah. As far as kidnappings go, this is one of the most uncomfortable. If I lose a finger because someone got too eager with knots, I'll sue.”
The boy snorts. “You'll sue them for that but not the beating and kidnapping?”
Leo shrugs, jostling the ropes again. Man, this is uncomfortable. “What can I say? A turtle has standards.”
The boy snickers. “Well, should this ever happen again, I shall refer my kidnappers to you for constructive criticism.”
Leo barks a laugh. “Trust me, buddy, I know what I'm talking about.”
“Considering our predicament, I'm not sure that's something to be bragging about.”
“That's how I cope.”
“Then you should see a professional.”
“Ugh, you sound like my brother.”
“He sounds like a wise turtle.”
“You haven't met him. He's an asshole.”
The boy chuckles, and another silence falls, lighter than the last. Leo takes the time to look around their temporary prison. The back of the loaded pick-up truck, loaded with all manner of junk from useless to semi-useful, boxes them in close enough for Leo to feel claustrophobic. Small drilled holes shed little light but offer a generous amount of air so they don't suffocate before the transfer. Wherever or whenever that is.
How long has it been since they were caught and stuffed in here? Hours? Maybe a day? Leo couldn't check even if he did have his phone.
The guys are gonna kill me.
(Unless these Yokai kill you first) a nasty voice whispers. Leo shakes his head and buries the thought deep with every other bad thought.
Focus. They need to get out of here. The bastards had taken Leo's swords and shuriken and the other boy's sick-looking katanas. There has to be something in here they can use, right? A mystic buzz-saw? A piece of broken glass—?
A sheen catches his eye. Leo whips his head to find it—
His face drops.
“... Hey, um... how long have our swords been sitting there?”
The boy jolts, twisting and pulling the ropes to follow Leo's eyes. Leo wheezes, but the rabbit pays no heed and gapes at their swords resting innocently against the far wall. “Seriously? Seriously.”
Leo rolls his eyes. “Rule number two of kidnapping: don't leave sharp things or your captives' weapons within reach or view of said captives.”
“Sorera no baka!”
“Agreed.” He cranes his neck to grin at the rabbit, firmly ignoring how close their noses are and wow, his eyes are so pink, nearly red but softer. “What say we blow this popsicle stand, my good man?”
The rabbit blinks those big pink eyes. “I'm not sure what that means, but if it involves leaving, certainly.” He grins back, flashing two adorably big front teeth—
Oh, Leo is screwed.
He clears his throat again—is it hot in here, why's he so sweaty?—and turns around. “Cool! Cool cool cool. Alright, let's do this, uh... Can you stand?”
Lucky for them, the goons had bound their hands but not their ankles, so getting up is—not easy but manageable with minimal noise. It's easier still to shuffle towards their conveniently placed weapons and crouch low enough for them to start cutting away at the ropes. So far, so good.
Leo sawed away, the rabbit keeping an ear out for commotion outside. Halfway through, Leo swallowed what (stupid, stupid) pride he had left and spoke up. “Um... so, I think I should apologise.”
The rabbit twitched. “Hm?”
Leo bit his lip. God, he hates this. “I mean, y'know... for getting us into this mess. I don't know why these guys are after you, but if it weren't for me, you'd have probably gotten away safe. I just... I was trying to play the 'cool hero' again to think 'hey, maybe this is a dangerous situation and getting caught would be a very bad thing!', y'know? I'm workin' on it, but...”
Another silence. Leo saws away and ducks his head.
Then the bunny huffs. “I will admit, watching teleport and deciding not to use it to get us out of there was not your best idea.”
Leo wilts like a flower, but the bunny isn't done.
“However, I will also admit that I could have run from the fight instead of trying to tackle six bounty hunters alone.” He chuckles mirthlessly. “My sensei always told me my pride would be my downfall.”
Leo almost stops sawing. He looks over his shoulder to find the bunny looking back, an awkward smile on his face. Face hot and chest warm with something new, Leo mirrors it. “Guess there's something we both need to work on,” he says.
The bunny snickers and Leo is sure he's not imagining the pink dusting on furry freckled cheeks. “Indeed. Perhaps, fates permitting...” he shrugs, “we could work on it together?”
Oh, sweet Hot Soup in the sky this is the best day of my life!
“Y-Yeah!” Leo squeaks—shit—then clears his throat. “Yeah. Yeah, we could, uh, totally do that! For sure.”
“Good. Also, I... I never caught your name.”
“Oh! Uh, it's Leonardo, but everyone calls me Leo. Or Leon, or Lee, or Nardo, but mostly Leo.” Shut the hell up mouth, you're embarrassing me! “W-What's your name?”
And there's that dorky stupid smile again. “Miyamoto Usagi.”
Again, Leo mirrors it just as the ropes finally snap. “Usagi. Cool.”
When the goons finally come to check on their cargo, they only have time to gawk as the turtle and the rabbit, grinning wide and cheeky, fall through the floor in a flash of blue.
Leo finds his phone blown up with several missed calls, worried texts and voice mails, and a new number in his contacts.
Not a bad first impression after all.

"#sorry i can only make snippets of scenes and never elaborate on them#unless someone asked me to. huehue" i am begging. you to elaborate the "train me" sketch on the upper right 🥹 and any jr. hcs you have that u wanna talk abt (but only if u want).... also pls your coloring and expressions are INSANE but this is nothing i havent told u before!!!!!!!!! i just think your sketches have so much story bleeding out of them. its great
so funny thing about the train me one....
Tumblr media
some of these are ideas i know ive talked about already, but im pulling a lot from idw where casey copes with fear/anger/insecurity by picking fights and attempting to be a vigilante. leos always the one who portals him out of jail and patches him up but the more i think about it, raph could help in managing his anger or taking it out in a more productive way (duo missions perhaps?), even if he cant unpack the mountain of trauma caseys got on his shoulders
Tumblr media
i cant help it that the scene where casey cusses out leo is engraved in my brain forever. the kids a jones, on top of the constant violence in his life, anger feels like something that would come pretty naturally to him in order to cope* (i know he was raised to be a soldier, following orders and keeping a check on his emotions to carry things out, so i feel like the moment he doesnt have to fight a war and keep himself in line for the sake of other people anymore everything just kind of pours out of him) donnie has easily spent 1000$ in new sandbags for the dojo
*not that i think casey is inherently violent or always upset. but i think the kids a bit messed up sometimes from the. yknow the Everything
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from riches and wonders by the mountain goats. casey jones, the restless ghost who cant feel at home
actually yknow what lets make this post a mile long who cares. i wanna explore casey hanging out with all the boys. i know i focus a lot on him and leo bc their dynamic is so twisted but i need to draw him hanging with mikey, learning to cope with self expression that he never got the real chance to do in wartime. him being around donnie and the two of them both learning they can support each other while still trying to protect their family in their own way (talking mainly abt casey helping donnie with his tech here, since donnies neurotic as hell abt security after the movie to me). casey getting to know raph in general, a living legend to him. and of course cassandra, something i was too afraid to touch on before but now i think im confident enough to try and tackle at this point
i dont think ill ever get around to writing a whole story but i know eventually casey finds stability. in my mind i see him getting a job where he helps people (something in a medical field, maybe). he has a good relationship with his family, and practically lives with them 75% of the time. leo is the one hes closest to, of course. he travels the world alone after a few years and cries over fleo never getting to see it, but knows that wherever his master is that hes at peace, knowing that at least casey had the chance
i have more to talk about but im running out of steam and im starting to get embarrassingly heartfelt the longer i ramble so um- (EXPLODES)

Ok for the family web one I would love to see the interaction when big mama takes them to see a yoki doctor for their first check up. I imagine Leo putting up a huge fuss and refusing to let anyone split up and wanting to be in the room with his brothers as they are examined. (Maybe growing up hiding from humans and being afraid of the government snatching them has given him a subconscious fear of doctors.)
Lol yes! he would kick up such a fuss. And they'd probably have to go in together b/c someone has to make sure Leo doesn't just portal out of there when no one's looking (b/c he will)
(i was going to doodle this but it just wasn't working out. So just know that at the first mention of a check-up Leo quite literally peaces out and drops through a portal, making his brother have to hunt him down for two hours and end up late for their appointment.)
Thank you!
Tumblr media
Lol yes! This is definitely one of the several reasons he's bad at being a patient.
the others? Well i might as well get into that lol
Leo's a feral cat whenever it comes to any sort of medical care. Wounds? He'll tend himself (usually just a band-aid or wrappings unless one of his brothers are there to force the issue.) Sick? he wont' take meds, he'd rather wait it out. general pain? Hides it.
This guy will go out of his way to hide symptoms to make sure his brothers don't think there's anything wrong. The only hint they ever have that there's something wrong with him is that, when it gets particularly bad, he will flop onto Donnie and just stay there.
Why is he like this? a lot of reasons.
One, he's the medic. it's his job to take care of/ worry over the medical shit for his brothers, not the other way around. He doesn't want them to have to worry about that (jokes on him, they already do.)
two, as far as his aversion to medication goes, he will say that it's b/c they have a limited supply of the stuff and he doesn't want to waste it on himself if his brothers might need it. Which is true in the sense that he is the one most aware of how limited it was. But also, he just really doesn't like taking medication, especially the stuff that messes with your head. and he doesn't want to be a liability in case something happens while he's medicated. (he also can't be the medic if his mind is foggy and that's his job.)
three, I think he just has an fear of doctors/ medical stuff, specifically if it's aimed at him (which is probably something no one realized, Leo included, until they taking him to the doctors for the first time?). Like they would give off a very similar vibe to bio-scientist so that may be part of it. Another part would probably be like, he'd have read a lot of medical stuff, probably stumbling into some pretty horrifying stories that stuck with him over the years. logically, he knows most doctors are there to help, but that doesn't mean he wants anything to do with them. He feels better handling it himself.
Thank you!

I know I said before that Same Story Different Font Leo wouldn't try to build a portal back home (he cant even repair the toaster so building an interdimensional portal is not in his wheelhouse)
But what if he did try?
Once, just once he would try to get back home, at least long enough to properly say goodbye. And if it didnt work then so be it, the next time he sees his family will be in death.
Its honestly a stupid idea, Leo knows it. Hell he heard Donnie complain several hundred times how difficult it was. And Donnie built a MECH out of GARBAGE.
But Leo wanted to go home, just once thats all he asks.
So he gets to work. In an old abandoned building outside the city, far enough that his sons wont find out.
It starts small, a string of power cords connected to the building's old fusebox, leading all the way around a rusty metal hoop.
A pitiful first attempt, nearly burned the whole building down.
Leonardo had to try again.
So he started stealing things, nothing anyone would miss. Things like old car batteries from the junkyard (along with any good scrap metal Leo could find) a few tools from that hardware store that shut down a few years back, computers from the Purple Dragons (they're villains anyways, so Leonardo is actively stopping them from doing anything by stealing their tech, its a win win)
In fact he actually considered stealing the Dragon's Tooth from the Purple Dragons but when Dani ended up using it to undo his brothers' brainwashing, Leo cant help but deny that he felt a bit crushed.
(Just for a moment, he considered putting himself inside Dani's machine, if only so he could actually work on the portal generator and be sure he was doing it right instead of winging it every step of the way. There was be no way to reverse it once its done and Leo KNOWS that. But...he doesnt understand anything related to interdimensional portals, or even complex engineering in general. Dani probably does, the kid is absolutely brilliant in all his creations. So maybe...just maybe if Leonardo had that kind of mental power he could actually pull this off... He abandoned that idea the second it came into his head)
It takes months to make any kind of progress (especially because again Leonardo does not know what he is doing at all and he few books he managed to find on the topic were purely theoretical, plus way too wordy for a beginner to understand) Plus he can only work on the portal generator when his kids are off on missions (except Missions against the Footclan, Leo joins them on those) or causing chaos in the city.
He cant stay long because the building is really far from the lair. (And he cant just take Leon's Odachi because then the kids might figure out whats going on)
But he does make progress (its lopsided and a good portion is held together by duct tape but its progress)
Then comes the actual difficult parts
A finding out where his dimension IS
And B programming the portal to take him there.
The amount of times Leo smacked his head against the keyboard in frustration is extremely high. After all he was basically teaching himself so much extremely advanced coding when he didnt even know the basic coding they teach CHILDREN in middle school.
So Leonardo was struggling.
And then Michel got stabbed in the stomach, putting the portal generator on hold for the longest time. (Considering that less than a month later, The Shredder was summoned.) It didnt help that when Leonardo FINALLY got back to his project the files were all corrupted and unsalvageable, so he had to start from COMPLETE scratch.
Then eventually (around the halfway point of season 2) the kids and April find the building, portal generator inside.
Dani naturally assumes that it belongs to either the Purple Dragons or Stockboy (however that doesnt explain the mid building and abysmally amature coding on the computer. Maybe a newbie trying to get in with the Purple Dragons? Stockboy's hypothetical less intelligent clone planning a revolution?)
Regardless, Dani claims it as his own project, its an INTERDIMENSIONAL PORTAL after all. If he gets it up and running he'll finally be able to prove that alternate universes exist!
Leonardo hides how mortified he is when the kids find out about his little project. (Thankfully they dont know that it was his doing plus if Dani and his big brain can figure it out it will spare his dear father anymore brain damage from smacking his face against the keyboard.) But he offers to help the kids with the construction.
And then its revealed that the Shredder was NOT sent back to its prison dimension like Big Mama promised. Then the project gets put on hold AGAIN to deal with Shredder.
(Then Karai shows up and Leonardo has a nightmare. A horrible gruesome nightmare about each of his kids getting violently murdered by the Shredder. He cant sleep for another week.)
So Leonardo doubles down on working on the portal, taking all of Dani's notes and trying to implement them to the best of his ability.
Because he isnt trying to go home, now he's trying to send his kids far FAR from here, where Shredder cant hurt them.
They'll be safe in an alternate dimension, away from this demon and away from the pain and suffering.
(If he can at least guarantee that his children will be safe, then Leonardo will be fine.)
And thats when his children catch him, when the secret he has been keeping for 13 years is finally out.
Leonardo cant deny it anymore.
He confesses everything, who he is, where he's from, why the portal exists.
And why he's hurrying to finish it.

⭐️ pls tell me more about your fic pls it’s wonderful 🥹❤️
:D the fic in question
ahhh im so glad you like it!! thank you for giving me the opportunity to ramble about this fic haha. i have SO many emotions about casey jones jr and the future timeline turtles, im never getting over the tragedy of that movie opening. future mikey's wink as he tears open space and time. future leo's "it's not about me" and the way he physically throws casey through the portal. like!!! hello!!!
imo part of what makes the future timeline so tragic is that so much of the show before this point (especially s2) focused on the hamato motto of "anata wa hitori ja nai," even before the turtles actually learned about the hamato clan. none of them have ever been alone, and as part of the hamato clan, legacies of generations upon generations of mystic warriors, they never will be. except then the bad future timeline shows up, and. they're gone. the family is fractured, the turtles are dead, and the last survivor, casey jr, is sent back alone.
so, that's kind of a long way to say that the conception of "write our names in the wet concrete" came from me taking this tragedy and shoving anata wa hitori ja nai in its face. lol.
in the fic, the moment future mikey decides that hes not going to let future leo die is the moment of canon divergence from the movie. the reason he actually manages it is bc in that moment, mikey and all of the hamato spirits look at the last surviving members of their family and say, no. we refuse. the war might be lost, but we will ensure that no member of our clan will be left alone.
it's not just mikey at the end, here, throwing leo back along with casey. it's him and donnie and raph and april and splinter and karai and even oroku saki, every single hamato all at once, facing down the end of the world and choosing to save the last of their family whether they like it or not.
sorry future leo, you dont get a choice! but hey, at least casey isn't stuck in the past and cut off from everything he's ever known by himself, right? :3
the reason i set the fic as pre-show instead of at the movie is bc i really wanted to focus on casey jr's relationship with future leo, and what that might look like when they're forced to actually, like. live semi-regular lives instead of being tossed directly into a high-stakes mission. the looming specter of the krang invasion is a constant stressor, but they also have more immediate things to worry about for a change. like money! big rip to future leo, forgetting that was a thing.
and casey junior learning to live in a non-apocalyptic society is always fun haha. he's a semi-feral apocalypse child who's used to eating rats and leaves! writing his pov is an entertaining challenge, bc he only knows things about pre-apocalyptic society via snippets hes heard from older ppl/family stories, and he approaches the world through a very different lens as a result. he is definitely going to hunt an alley rat at some point and be like :D look theres so much meat on this!! and non-apocalypse survivors around him are like uhhh kiddo wtf. are you... are you seriously going to eat that.
casey, already roasting it over a fire: yes?? why would i not??
anyway, im going to cut myself off before i ramble about this fic forever and spoil future chapters (currently writing chapter 5 :D), but thank you so much for reading it!! im having a lot of fun with this au and i'm glad you are too ^.^
(feel free ask me anything about my fics!)

Xomali: Daughter of Mictlantecuhtli
this is a fic for an art trade with @cottieclub —it’s kind of an intro fic/general one shot for her OC Xomali, a godspawn from Mexica mythology, who’s shipped with Nico. she’s a pretty cool OC & a cool intro to the world of Mexica mythology, so you guys should check this out if you want. Or Whatever 🤠
ships: Xomali Lopez/Nico di Angelo, Leo Valdez/Piper McLean
word count: 3k
warnings: none ! :-)
———
There were a few times when Xomali had landed in the wrong destination due to her portals, but they were always funny occurrences. Like that one time where she was trying to get to her favorite bagel place, but instead ended up in the bathroom of a diner several miles away.
This was not a funny occurrence.
She'd created a portal out of Mictlan, the Mexica Underworld, in search of Camp Half-Blood. She'd originally escaped to the camp the previous year, when her home in Morelia was invaded by an angry Goddess of Death, Mictecacihuatl. Although she had wanted to fight to protect her home, her father, the Underworld god Mictlantecuhtli, ordered her to leave and find Camp Half-Blood in Long Island. There she would be safe, and she could train to be a stronger fighter by the day. It'd been a treacherous journey across America, though she and her dog, Pistache, had braved it together.
Thinking of dogs brought Xomali back to the matter at hand: the gargantuan hellhound locking eyes with her now. Its eyes glittered like rubies, a low growl revealing sharp, dense teeth.
Xomali was normally a dog person, though she had a feeling this dog was not too keen on playing fetch.
"I don't want to hurt you," Xomali murmured, trying in vain to calm her heart at the sight of the monster. "I come from the Underworld, just like you."
The hellhound, to her surprise, leaned forward and sniffed her. Just as Xomali was starting to think the hellhound might not hurt her, it growled and lunged, tackling her against the earth.
Xomali instinctively stabbed her knife-face into the dirt. The ground around her rose, the hellhound sliding off her. The daughter of Mictlantecuhtli rolled off the uneven earth, scrambling to her feet just as the hellhound let out a hair-raising howl.
Her ears ringing, Xomali held her hands over the earth, willing the ground to open before her. Two jaguars burst from the dirt, growling and circling the monster.
Xomali didn't like to summon the jaguars—but seeing as she only had her knife-face on her, she saw no other way.
The jaguars charged the hellhound, the monster letting out a bark like a clap of thunder before biting into one of the jaguars. The poor creature yowled, crumpling to the Earth.
The other jaguar pounced, scratching down the hellhound's back, the monster howling in pain. Her heart pounding, Xomali charged the hellhound, jumping on top of its back and charging her knife into its neck. The monster crumpled beneath her, turning to a glittering golden dust.
Xomali caught her breath, her eyes stinging as the fallen jaguar's body sank into the earth. He would be reborn again in Mictlan, but that wasn't the most reassuring thing to tell herself after seeing her poor protector fallen like that.
Xomali wiped her stinging eyes, sheathing her knife-face as she continued through the trees. Luckily, no other monsters seemed eager to attack—either because they saw what she'd made of the hellhound, or because the remaining jaguar continued prowling by her side.
It wasn't long before the trees thinned and Xomali emerged from the woods, her heart skipping a beat as she recognized the back of the Hades cabin. She gestured for the other accompanying jaguar to leave her. Her protector did so, pawing the earth before sinking back down into it. He would be back to Mictlan soon enough, back to his usual duty of eating the hearts of her father's visitors and other cute, fun activities.
The cleaning harpies chittered about the other side of the cabins, but Xomali wasn't too worried. Per usual, she wasn't wearing shoes, meaning her steps would be completely silent—as long as they didn't see her, she should be good to go.
Indeed, she just managed to slip inside the cabin as the harpies worked their way over, meaning she was in the clear.
Xomali let out a deep breath, relieved at the familiar sights and smells of the Hades cabin. Nico always melted candles that smelled like vanilla or pine, making the dark room seem a little more like a home.
The son of Hades was in his bed, though he didn't seem to fall asleep in any conventional way; his blanket was haphazardly draped across his sleeping form, and he was resting against the black stone wall. It couldn't have been comfortable.
Her steps still silent, Xomali approached him, sitting on his bed. She then placed a hand on his forehead—his skin was cool, as always.
A moment later, Nico snapped awake, grasping Xomali's wrist. He met her eyes, for a moment looking as though he were ready to fight before realizing who she was. He let go of her wrist, letting out a shaky breath as he calmed himself down.
"I don't know how many times I told you to stop doing that," Nico managed, pulling Xomali into a hug, resting his forehead against the crook of her neck. "I swear, you're taking years off my life every time...but I'm glad you're back."
He pulled away, studying Xomali's face. "Are you okay? You didn't get into any trouble on the way, did you?"
Xomali frowned. What kind of question was that? She was a demigod, same as him—or a godspawn, anyway. Trouble would always find her.
Still, she shook her head, shrugging as if to say 'nothing I couldn't handle.'
Nico nodded, seeming satisfied with her answer. "I fell asleep waiting on you—I know you said I shouldn't, but I can't help it. Next time, I'll go with you, okay?"
Xomali shook her head. It wasn't that she didn't want Nico to come with her—it wasn't even that she doubted how he could handle himself, because she'd seen him fight. It was just that he'd never been to Mictlan before, just like how she had never been to the Underworld before. There would be a day for that at some point in the future, but for now...
"You know what they say about in-laws," Xomali said, her voice soft from a lack of speaking.
Nico scoffed, but his smile was amused. "Yeah, I'm sure not everything is perfect with your family, same as mine, but...it's nothing we couldn't handle together."
Xomali shrugged, unsure of what to say to such an offer. She and Nico hadn't been 'together' for that long, if 'together' would even be the right way to phrase it. How could she be sure he'd still want to be with her enough to introduce each other to their home worlds?
She leaned her head against Nico's shoulder, linking an arm with his, signaling that she was going to sleep for the night. Exhaustion weighing on her from her trip, she found her eyes closing with ease, sinking into a light sleep as she rested against Nico.
———
Xomali was in the forges when Leo said it, and it made her wish she hadn't visited him at all.
"So your boyfriend—who's not your boyfriend, by the way—wants to go to Mictlan with you, and you're reluctant," Leo said, not looking at her—he was too focused on what looked like a porcupine-shaped go cart. He was sitting on one of those boards with wheels, and he scooted over to the nearby worktable, reaching around for a wrench just out of reach.
"I would help you," Xomali said, crossing her arms. "But if you're going to be rude, you can fend for yourself."
Leo cursed, reaching into his tool belt and pulling out a copy of the wrench he needed. "No matter, diablita. And I'm not being rude, just honest. You act as if you and Nico are an item but you're also not an item, and then you wanna do these couple things with him, but you don't, and it's like...gods, it seems exhausting."
"Easy for you to say," Xomali's face flushed. "With you and Piper being...how you are."
Leo grinned, finally pausing his work to look up at Xomali. "What do you mean?"
"Don't act dumb," Xomali frowned. "I'm not elaborating."
"Okay, fine," Leo said, wiping his hands with a shop rag. "I'm going to pretend that you said how you're really feeling: 'oh, Leo, you romantic genius, you! Please, give me relationship advice, I really wanna get serious with a guy that looks like a living skeleton!'"
"I'm this close to summoning a jaguar on your ass," Xomali muttered.
"Alright, I'll give you some advice!" Leo ignored her threat. "You need to be a bit more...traditional. Or forward. You remember how I made Piper that mechanical bouquet of flowers that changed for every day of the week? If you take the steps to actually cement that you two are a thing, then maybe you won't feel so hesitant about bringing him down to Mictlan, you know?"
Xomali pondered the advice. On the one hand, Leo sounded like an absolute ass, per usual. But on the other...maybe he had a point. Xomali was so used to things changing around her, it would be nice if she and Nico felt a little more...stable.
"Thank you," Xomali said softly, as if she were admitting defeat. "That...actually makes sense. I'll think about it."
"You're welcome," Leo replied. "Now, I gotta get this finished for Harley. If you need help making something for Nico...my queue is, like, a million years long, so..."
"Noted," Xomali wrung her hands together. She slipped out of the forges, looking around at the other cabins until she spotted the familiar pink Barbie Dreamhouse cabin. "I guess it couldn't hurt to get a second opinion..."
———
"Oh, hi, Xomali! Here, have a seat," Piper cleared away some space on her bed, which was currently cluttered with posters and knick-knacks. She must have been redesigning her bunk—and Xomali knew that she would look for any excuse to procrastinate on that.
Piper got out her makeup caboodle and opened it up, rifling through an assortment of eyeshadow pallets, blush brushes, and eyeliner pencils. There was a point a while back where Piper wouldn't touch makeup—and while she still wasn't the biggest fan, she was coming around to it. She mostly liked doing other people's makeup, and Xomali couldn't deny that she liked their little unspoken routine. She couldn't help but look in the mirror and smile at Piper's work whenever she gave her a makeover.
So, Xomali told Piper everything that was going on, just as she had done for Leo. She had to pause at random moments to stay still, and she almost got out her knife-face when Piper was a little too reckless with the eyeliner pencil, but they both got through unscathed.
When Xomali told her Leo's advice, Piper actually laughed, rolling her eyes before applying mascara to Xomali's lashes.
"Leo's such a prick," Piper said, her fond smile not leaving her lips. She glanced over at her bouquet of mechanical flowers—today's type was roses. "He watches too many rom-coms and thinks that holding a boombox outside someone's window is the fix-it for any issue."
Xomali's brows furrowed. "So...you don't like the things he does for your relationship?"
"Oh, no, I do," Piper shook her head. "I love those kinds of gifts, as long as he's not too too loud about it. The flowers are beautiful, but if he held a boombox outside of my cabin, I might use him for target practice."
Piper riffled through her nightstand drawer and pulled out a hairbrush, gently brushing through Xomali's hair. Xomali hadn't brushed it herself on her journey, but Piper never said anything to make her feel bad about it. The daughter of Aphrodite and Nico were the only people she allowed to be this close to her, and they knew how much this sort of thing meant to her.
"What I mean," Piper continued. "Is that it doesn't take me being a daughter of the love goddess to know that people give and receive love in different ways. Some people might want the boombox. Some people might want flowers. Some people might want nothing but their partner holding their hand. You just gotta figure out what makes you and Nico work, and you'll be fine."
"I don't think Nico would like the boombox," Xomali thought allowed. "Or the flowers..."
"Me neither," Piper agreed, making quick work of braiding Xomali's hair so it swept over her right shoulder. "If you ask me, I think he's the happiest when you're just there holding his hand. But you know, you can always ask him."
Piper flipped opened up her caboodle again and opened the mirror, allowing Xomali to get a look at herself. She wasn't sure if it was Aphrodite magic or just Piper being Piper, but she was perfect at this sort of thing. Not too much makeup, not too little, all the perfect tones—she just highlighted all of the features Xomali already liked about herself.
Xomali couldn't help but beam at her reflection before looking up at her friend. "Thank you."
"Of course," Piper put away her caboodle. "Just...unless it's about a car or something, come to me before asking my boyfriend for any kind of advice, okay?"
"Will do," Xomali laughed.
———
It was later in the evening when Xomali returned to the Hades cabin, holding a jar she'd gotten from the Big House. She'd thought over the conversations she'd had with her friends while taking a walk through the woods. It was there she'd found a pretty large spider—she wasn't sure what type it was, but it was cool. She felt towards spiders the way she and most others felt towards dogs—the creepy crawlies were cute and deserved to be admired.
Xomali had poked some holes in the jar and put the spider in there. She wasn't sure if she'd keep it there forever, but when she put in another bug with it, the spider didn't seem in a rush to leave its meal.
Xomali slipped into the cabin, jar in hand, finding Nico reading by candlelight. At the sound of the door closing, he looked up, closing his book. Xomali noticed it was a book on Mexica mythology, which she'd never seen him read. He took an interest in what she'd told him about Mictlan, of course, though she never thought he'd done research on his own.
"We're not going tomorrow," Xomali said, nodding towards the book. "No need to cram."
Nico shrugged, placing the book on his nightstand. "You've read books on the Underworld, though, right?"
Xomali nodded, coming over to sit on the bed. "Greek mythology is kinda required reading here—but I also want to know about one of the places you consider home."
"I feel the same about Mictlan," Nico pointed out, a smile tugging his lips as he admired Xomali's braid. He gently pulled off the hair tie, undoing her braid only to start it up again on the other side. He liked doing things like that—it kept his hands busy, and it was a way to be close to Xomali without seeming so...direct and purposeful. “We don't have to go if you're not ready, though."
Xomali paused, her eyes on the flickering flame of the candle on Nico's nightstand. "No, I...I think I'm ready. It'll be sometime vaguely soon, but let's not put a date on it. And you'll show me the Underworld, too."
"It's a date," Nico's face flushed at the implication, as if he and Xomali weren't already together. She'd seen him in battle, that fierce look he got when sending monsters down to Tartarus. Still, it was hard to distinguish the warrior from the soft boy in front of her now. "But we can't eat any of the food down there, or else we'd be stuck there." He explained quickly. "We'd just bring our own."
"Sounds good to me," Xomali smiled slightly. "I...I don't think I was worried about the trip to Mictlan or the Underworld, anyway. I knew that we were going in that direction, but..." her smile faded. "I guess I was just worried about how we were doing, in general. Like, we're not as open about being a couple. It took Leo almost a month to figure it out, you know?"
Nico nodded, fastening the new braid with the hair tie. “So…what are you saying? You think we should do more…affectionate, couple stuff? Because, I mean…I like you, but I don’t think—“
“No,” Xomali cut him off, her stomach filling with nervous butterflies. “I don’t want that, I was just wondering what you wanted. I talked to Leo and Piper today about their relationship, and it just seems more…traditional. Like, he got her flowers. And I started to wonder about what kind of stuff you would want, and if that would make us feel more…solid, if that makes sense.”
“Oh,” Nico brushed a lock of hair behind Xomali’s ear. “I don’t really want anything—I’m not really into that sort of thing, so no need to worry about that.”
Xomali nodded, looking back down at the spider in the jar as she ran her thumb across the glass. “I kinda always knew we both weren’t really into that stuff. But…here.” She handed over the jar. “I know you like the creepy crawlies, too.”
Nico brightened at the sight, taking the jar and looking at the spider as if it were a puppy at the shelter. “This is awesome—thank you, Xomali.” He placed the jar on the nightstand, then wrapped Xomali up in a hug.
As she rested her chin on his shoulder, her doubts were more erased than ever before. They didn’t have to be like anyone or anything to be together in the ‘right’ way—they were together, and that was what mattered.
As they got ready for bed, Xomali knew that her next trip to Mictlan would be a fun one, and she could trust Nico with anything.

Greetings Rise fandom! I got another concept for you all!
This could be for its own au, but this is something I'm planning to add into my Dragon Turtles au. I got to thinking about how the turtles could advance with their mystic abilities after the events of the movie, and that's when I got the idea that the bros could gain familiars. Basically, think of these creatures as something like the Palismans from The Owl House, except instead of turning into staffs, they become more like totems, jewelry, or other small, inanimate objects that could be carried around in case of emergencies.
As for how they got them, I like to picture a sort of traveling market that popped up outside of Witch Town. That way all the bros can explore it out of curiosity without getting into trouble with the residents. And as for each one, they all chose the turtles based on a mystic connection. And each one is unique, so let's get into who got who:
Raph: Ursa Minor cub. Bears are classified as strong earth-based guardian spirits, but I wanted Raph's little buddy to be about more than just strength. I also wanted a mystic creature he could show a softer side with. One without worry of getting hurt by the amount of mental anguish suffered at the hands of the Krang turned possibly physical. Hence the decision to give Raph what is essentially a perfect sized teddy bear that also doubles as his mystic partner.
Donnie: Albino Basilisk. Now, I had quite a bit of debate on what to give Donnie as a familiar. I considered something like a rabbit or a cat, but that felt a bit too obvious or overdone. This version of Donnie deserved something unique, so I started looking for alternative animals. The basilisk stuck out to me in a few ways. One, snakes are usually connected to water. Two, making the creature albino means that it would have difficulties surviving, and would have to think outside the box to live in certain conditions. Kind of like Donnie and his soft shell. Making this serpent in particular a fast thinking/highly intelligent creature. Also, much like how Donnie could be misunderstood as a cold and closed off individual, so too are snakes. Snakes can be highly misunderstood as cold, efficient, killing creatures of evil, but some out there actually have calm and friendly temperaments. And while it would take Donnie a while to get over the creepy feeling of them crawling over him, the feel of the smooth skin would probably be great for someone who is theorized to have certain sensitivities to certain textures. Not to mention that the gentle massaging feels of them gently constricting him in a not-too-tight fashion could help keep him grounded in a mental spiral. (And yes, I based the design off of 2012's serpent Karai. it was an intentional reference)
Mikey: Phoenix. Mikey's was an obvious one for me to do. Being the most Mystically connected out of the brothers means he had the highest chances of bonding with a very powerful creature. Enter the phoenix, a firebird with the ability to be reborn from the ashes of an old life. Colorful, graceful, and powerful, the phoenix can also have a soft or even mischievous side to it. A fun-loving creature with great abilities to help a fledging mystic warrior like Mikey gain his proper footing in using them. Especially without hurting himself, like with the portal at the end of the movie. As well as helping him gain confidence to stand on his own when his brothers can't help him.
Leo: Kirin. Leo was also a hard one to figure out. I considered animals like stags, deer, elk and the like. But then, I remembered that Leo had a liking for Unicorns, however I didn't just want to give him a generic unicorn. That's when inspiration struck. I was revisiting the OVA series of Petshop of Horrors, and in the 4th episode, it talked about the Kirin. The Kirin is stated to be a holy beast, who serves no one but it's sovereign. Therefore, the person to gain possession of the Kirin, was destined to be a great ruler. That's when it all clicked into place. The Kirin is not only the Eastern equivalent to the unicorn, but a lot of what it represents could tie into Leo's struggles of being a better leader after the movie. Sovereign is another word for king or leader, and in ancient Chinese/general Asian lore, the arrival of a Kirin was meant to signify the coming or going of a great leading figure. A creature that was benevolent to its allies and had ruthless furry for its enemies. And not just anyone could choose a Kirin as a familiar or guardian spirit, it had to choose you. And after everything Leo went through, fears of failure, the pressures of leadership, the guilt of causing/nearly causing the apocalypse, he would need some kind of sign or reassurance that he was back on the right track. That he was improving and could be a good leader like Casey Jr. said. And what better way than to be chosen by a great mythic beast, with its own set of scars, to choose him to be its leader. If that doesn't prove Leo's leadership capabilities, I don't know what would.
Anywho, thanks for reading my crazed ramblings, and I hope you enjoy the content. Feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts on the concept. Hope to see you soon!

Unexpected [Indulgent Self Insert]
Tumblr media
Uh...yeah....Indulgent self-insert of a separate Pokemon cross over universe. Professor Karume Arjun moves to Hellsalem's Lot since there isn't a professor in that area after deeming it separate from the rest of the United States.
(Klaus)
Klaus leaned back from a game of Prosfair, today they were to help escort several Pokemon transport trucks to a new Lab for one Professor Arjun. She seemed like a well-respected official, if you asked other professors or reasearchers. But the general public weren't too fond of her or her research.
Klaus was mixed himself. On the one hand, seeing those portals rip open the sky some ten years ago, only for these bizarre creatures identified as Pokemon to come spilling forth was terrifying. Second only to The Great Collapse.
On the other, Professor Arjun was a behavioral analyst. Her entire body of published articles were about how to avoid problems with wild Pokemon and proper training methods. So it wasn't like she was doing anything that would get anyone injured.
Perhaps it would be best to not think about it. The only reason Libra was called as an escort was because of how dangerous the Pokemon were. Though, they did have to head out now if they were going to be a proper envoy.
(Professor Arjun)
Waiting for these trucks was the worst, but there was no way around it. Rescued Pokemon were always difficult to transport, especially the ones that suffered the way these had.
Professor Krane called them "Shadow Pokemon". His assistant Rui had coined the term. But really, they just didn't want to be close to humans again. Karume wouldn't want to be close to other humans either, not after being treated like a tool the way these Pokemon had, forced to fight to the death in underground rings.
A soft sigh escaped the tired Professor. Setting up a whole lab with zero help in under three weeks had been no easy task. And her work was barely begining.
The sound of trucks pulling to a stop outside brought the professor back to reality. Her own Pokemon would have to help carry in the cages, specifically her Gardevoir and Gallade. Their psychic abilities would be the safest option.
But first, to make sure the people escorting the Pokemon didn't get themselves hurt.
(Normal)
Leo was hyped to be on this mission. He did idolize Professor Arjun for her work. Even more so when she was helping oversee the training for Michella's seeing-eye Lillipup. It had evolved since then, but it was still the most helpful companion his sister could ask for. More than other people in some cases.
Though that was the extent of it. Leo hadn't really known a time when he wasn't nervous around other Pokemon. Well-trained Pokemon were one thing, he could calm his nerves a little. But the sounds from the back of the truck had suggested nearly wild Pokemon.
Were they wild? Or was it just being in cages that set them off? Leo couldn't be certain.
"So, any idea what this crazy chic is really like? I mean. She works with Pokemon of all things." Zapp was being his usual self, though a hint of nerves was showing, "Like she's gotta have a couple screws loose, right?"
"I'm sure she's perfectly sane." Zed commented, "Her research is quite thorough and her methods can be replicated easily. You're the one with screws loose."
It had not been a very fun trip.
Steven blinked at the rather odd Professor. She fit the whole working with Pokemon part down to a T, physically fit and muscular looking under the lab coat. But also looking a bit wild and bored??? Steven didn't really know what to make of her. This was the Professor sent to Hellsalem's Lot by the League.
Though, she seemed to scan everyone, sizing them all up in one swift glance.
Even Klaus felt somehow small under that gaze, despite being rather kind. The professor was the first to move forward, extending a hand towards Klaus.
"Its nice to meet you, I'm Professor Karume Arjun."
"Klaus von Reinherz." Klaus was ever gentle even in his confusion over being approached so casually, "Would you like some assistance? Or do you have other staff to help unload these Pokemon?"
"Tempting Mr. Reinherz" Professor Arjun smiled warmly, "But I have things handled. I'd rather avoid injury of your people."
Before Klaus could respond, or anyone could really, one of the trucks revved up again. Speeding off with the driver yelling about how Hellsalem's Lot didn't need a professor at all. And before Libra could respond, Professor Arjun was sprinting headlong in that direction.
Klaus instructed Leonardo, Zapp, and Zed to guard the remaining trucks while Chain, K.K. Steven and himself chased down the runaway, and the professor.
Upon turning the corner after the truck, Klaus gasped at seeing such a large Pokemon dashing so nimbly through the streets. Professor Arjun upon its back as if she did this regularly. The large black furred Pokemon leapt gracfully, latching onto the truck and sticking with massive claws sinking into the metal.
Professor Arjun called out, "Trix. Tor."
A Gallade and Gardevoir appeared in a burst of light, using their psychic powers to steady themselves and lift the truck off the ground. Professor Arjun dismounted her Luxray and returned him to the Pokeball.
Steven marveled at the sheer prowess of the Pokemon, more so at the person currently controlling them with ease. Was this the true power of having a loyal Pokemon by one's side?
Gilbert pulled the car around safely to the side and stopped. Even he had to stop and stare a few moments at someone so capable of commanding these powerful creatures without a word. Perhaps the Professor could teach him this kind of training. Head Maid Catherine Bates had hinted in her last call about an update in training Pokemon after Master Reinherz Sr. had discovered this professor's research.
Professor Arjun floated gently down, watching intently as Trix, her Gardevoir, and Tor, her Gallade, carefully extracted the driver from the cab of the truck. She was certain that the police had been informed and would wait, at least until she didn't have to worry about someone attempting to shoot the back of the truck.
She wasn't waiting long as Trix and Tor lowered the truck to a smattering of applause. Klaus and Steven felt their jaws drop as the Professor praised her Pokemon before returning them to their Pokeballs.
K.K. was standing off to the side, she really came all this way with them just to watch a kick a$$ professor do their job but better. Well, at least with far less damage then they could really do. But she had to admit, those were some cool looking creatures. One absolutely beautiful the other more stead fast.
K.K. considered looking into a pet Pokemon for her boys, given how Leo had gushed about his sister's assistant Pokemon. Chain on the other hand was more impressed with the over-sized fluffy Pokemon the Professor had ridden.

Klaus was passing by the lab with Steven. Nearly a month had passed since they first met the professor. While she had remained a relatively quiet and polite person, only ever interfering in incidents involving Pokemon, Klaus had several burning questions for her.
Steven could tell this, he'd spent long enough by Klaus's side to just know when he needed external permission to follow his whims.
"Why don't we see about making an appointment to chat with Professor Arjun? Worst that could possibly happen is she's booked until New Years."
Klaus chuckled a tiny bit, unaware he was even showing any kind of intrigue in the building they were about to pass.
"I don't see why we couldn't check upon it in person."
Steven smirked a bit, turning back to enter the lab. Yep, he knew his red-haired friend a little too well sometimes.
Both were met with quite the sight though. Professor Arjun had a large flying scorpion Pokemon clinging to her back. Not to mention several smaller Pokemon following her every step. It was a wonder she was able to move at all without tripping.
"Yes, I understand the delay. Of course. Yes, thank you." Professor turned, sliding her phone into her shirt pocket with a sigh, "Can I help you gentlemen?"
Of course she didn't miss a beat. Though Klaus was a bit nervous to see so many Pokemon all at once.
"Good afternoon Professor." Steven broke the ice, "We were hoping to set up a short meeting to discuss a couple things."
Professor Arjun opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off by her phone. Instead having to answer.
"Hello. Professor Arjun speaking."
Were there no other staff members here? Why was she swarmed with Pokemon? Klaus had more questions and still no answers. Though she was polite about having to take a call from Professor Sonia Magnolia.
Their conversation was about the still continuing space-time rifts that popped up from time to time. They were mostly avoidable, but every so often they were random and rather distructive. Yet the Pokemon found inside were never any more dangerous than any other found naturally.
"Forgive me for that." Professor Arjun turned to Klaus and Steven again, "You were saying?"
"We would like to schedule a meeting Professor." Klaus was a little too nervous and was talking louder than he intended, "To discuss possible assistance in training our own Pokemon."
Professor Arjun's eyebrow raised up, threatening to disappear in her hair, "Training for what precisely? To battle competitively, raise as pets, or field work?"
"Field work. Similar to how you use your own Pokemon in confrontations."
"Hm..." Klaus relaxed as she did, but still waited with baited breath, "That's rather difficult training. Quite extensive. And you aren't exactly affiliated with the police or I would've seen you before now."
Both were sweating a little around the collar.
"If you have a moment right now. I could at least get a couple answers before giving my own. It sounds odd, but so will the questions I need to ask." Klaus and Steven looked at each other with suspicious looks, "Would you step into my office? Uh...my private office. I don't think discussing this in an room where anyone can burst in is a good idea."
Both nodded at the Professor and followed her into a rather small office covered in small pet beds with a comfortable looking tiny sofa and desk. The Pokemon dispersed to various beds and playing with one another, except the Gligar across her back, which stayed attached to her as she sat on a stool, offering the more comfortable seating to her guests. Klaus eased onto the couch while Steven sat in the chair.
"So, you mentioned field work. That wouldn't happen to be like....fang hunting field work, would it?"
Klaus sat forward, his surprise mirrored by Steven, "Absolutely what we meant. Do you have experience with fang hunters?"
"Very little. One man called 'Lucky' I think. Poor man was being followed by a wild Absol." Professor Arjun leaned back a little, "I figured out fairly quickly why but he was very talkative about....blood breeds?"
Steven groaned. Of course Lucky would be lowkey trying to recruit a powerful Pokemon trainer, "Yes, its the term we use for vampires. Its a more accurate term."
"Ah....then I wouldn't recommend you train Pokemon."
Klaus furrowed his brow, "How come Professor?"
"I'm sure there's no lack of skill or dedication in either of you nor your team. But the training itself is extensive and time consuming." Professor Arjun looked apologetic, "And from what little information I do have. You don't have a lot of time to spare between your jobs to fully train a Pokemon, let alone a team."
Klaus and Steven blinked slowly at the concern. The logical concern.
"Buuuuut, if you're dead set on doing so. I will do what I can to help you. I just can't recommend it with a clear conscious."
"We deeply appreciate the concern Professor." Klaus bowed his head slightly, "Though I assure you we can take our time training Pokemon properly. Though it's likely going to take longer than you're thinking since our job will take obvious priority over training."
