First Impressions

As far as first impressions go, this isn't the worst.

Sure, trying to save a stranger in the Hidden City from a gang of Yokai kidnappers (and look cool doing it as a treat) isn't an ideal way of making friends, but if it works, it works, right?

Except it didn't.

“Hey. Are you awake?”

Leo takes a deep breath and sighs. “Yup,” he pops, staring blearily at his lap. “Didn't sleep much anyways.”

“Me neither,” the stranger replies. Leo hasn't gotten around to asking him his name. Probably due to his plan to save him ending with Leo being beaten up, disarmed and kidnapped with him.

So, yeah. Not the best first impression. 

Still, what was he supposed to do? Just ignore someone in danger? Even if they looked like they could handle themselves—the fight had been brief but Leo would be blind not to notice the rabbit Yokai's skill and grace with his blade, faster than anything Leo had ever seen. 

Even so, the goons had numbers and size on their side, and really, Leo should have, could have, portalled them to safety rather than show off only to get rinsed. Pride will always be his downfall.

(And cute rabbit samurai boys, apparently.) 

Leo squirms, adjusting his numb body as much as he's able. His ass is asleep, and he can't feel his fingers. “Yeah, sorry,” he mutters. “Turtles don't exactly make the best pillows.”

“No, that's not it.” The other boy shifts, tugging the ropes binding them back to back around their chests. His voice is rough with exhaustion, but Leo can hear a smile in it. “Your shell is actually quite comfy.”

“Oh,” Leo blinks. “Really?” 

“Yes. It's the, uh... well, everything else that kept me awake. Also, I'm certain I've lost circulation in my wrists now.”

The boy flexes his fingers, accidentally brushing Leo's where they're tied behind his shell. He just fights a shiver. “Y-Yeah,” he clears his throat. “Yeah. As far as kidnappings go, this is one of the most uncomfortable. If I lose a finger because someone got too eager with knots, I'll sue.”

The boy snorts. “You'll sue them for that but not the beating and kidnapping?”

Leo shrugs, jostling the ropes again. Man, this is uncomfortable. “What can I say? A turtle has standards.”

The boy snickers. “Well, should this ever happen again, I shall refer my kidnappers to you for constructive criticism.”

Leo barks a laugh. “Trust me, buddy, I know what I'm talking about.”

“Considering our predicament, I'm not sure that's something to be bragging about.”

“That's how I cope.”

“Then you should see a professional.”

“Ugh, you sound like my brother.”

“He sounds like a wise turtle.”

“You haven't met him. He's an asshole.”

The boy chuckles, and another silence falls, lighter than the last. Leo takes the time to look around their temporary prison. The back of the loaded pick-up truck, loaded with all manner of junk from useless to semi-useful, boxes them in close enough for Leo to feel claustrophobic. Small drilled holes shed little light but offer a generous amount of air so they don't suffocate before the transfer. Wherever or whenever that is. 

How long has it been since they were caught and stuffed in here? Hours? Maybe a day? Leo couldn't check even if he did have his phone.

The guys are gonna kill me.

(Unless these Yokai kill you first) a nasty voice whispers. Leo shakes his head and buries the thought deep with every other bad thought. 

Focus. They need to get out of here. The bastards had taken Leo's swords and shuriken and the other boy's sick-looking katanas. There has to be something in here they can use, right? A mystic buzz-saw? A piece of broken glass—?

A sheen catches his eye. Leo whips his head to find it—

His face drops.

“... Hey, um... how long have our swords been sitting there?”

The boy jolts, twisting and pulling the ropes to follow Leo's eyes. Leo wheezes, but the rabbit pays no heed and gapes at their swords resting innocently against the far wall. “Seriously? Seriously.”

Leo rolls his eyes. “Rule number two of kidnapping: don't leave sharp things or your captives' weapons within reach or view of said captives.”

“Sorera no baka!”

“Agreed.” He cranes his neck to grin at the rabbit, firmly ignoring how close their noses are and wow, his eyes are so pink, nearly red but softer. “What say we blow this popsicle stand, my good man?”

The rabbit blinks those big pink eyes. “I'm not sure what that means, but if it involves leaving, certainly.” He grins back, flashing two adorably big front teeth—

Oh, Leo is screwed.

He clears his throat again—is it hot in here, why's he so sweaty?—and turns around. “Cool! Cool cool cool. Alright, let's do this, uh... Can you stand?”

Lucky for them, the goons had bound their hands but not their ankles, so getting up is—not easy but manageable with minimal noise. It's easier still to shuffle towards their conveniently placed weapons and crouch low enough for them to start cutting away at the ropes. So far, so good.

Leo sawed away, the rabbit keeping an ear out for commotion outside. Halfway through, Leo swallowed what (stupid, stupid) pride he had left and spoke up. “Um... so, I think I should apologise.”  

The rabbit twitched. “Hm?”

Leo bit his lip. God, he hates this. “I mean, y'know... for getting us into this mess. I don't know why these guys are after you, but if it weren't for me, you'd have probably gotten away safe. I just... I was trying to play the 'cool hero' again to think 'hey, maybe this is a dangerous situation and getting caught would be a very bad thing!', y'know? I'm workin' on it, but...”

Another silence. Leo saws away and ducks his head. 

Then the bunny huffs. “I will admit, watching teleport and deciding not to use it to get us out of there was not your best idea.” 

Leo wilts like a flower, but the bunny isn't done. 

“However, I will also admit that I could have run from the fight instead of trying to tackle six bounty hunters alone.” He chuckles mirthlessly. “My sensei always told me my pride would be my downfall.” 

Leo almost stops sawing. He looks over his shoulder to find the bunny looking back, an awkward smile on his face. Face hot and chest warm with something new, Leo mirrors it. “Guess there's something we both need to work on,” he says.

The bunny snickers and Leo is sure he's not imagining the pink dusting on furry freckled cheeks. “Indeed. Perhaps, fates permitting...” he shrugs, “we could work on it together?”

Oh, sweet Hot Soup in the sky this is the best day of my life!

“Y-Yeah!” Leo squeaks—shit—then clears his throat. “Yeah. Yeah, we could, uh, totally do that! For sure.”

“Good. Also, I... I never caught your name.”

“Oh! Uh, it's Leonardo, but everyone calls me Leo. Or Leon, or Lee, or Nardo, but mostly Leo.” Shut the hell up mouth, you're embarrassing me! “W-What's your name?”

And there's that dorky stupid smile again. “Miyamoto Usagi.”

Again, Leo mirrors it just as the ropes finally snap. “Usagi. Cool.”

When the goons finally come to check on their cargo, they only have time to gawk as the turtle and the rabbit, grinning wide and cheeky, fall through the floor in a flash of blue.

Leo finds his phone blown up with several missed calls, worried texts and voice mails, and a new number in his contacts.

Not a bad first impression after all.

Why did they break up at first?

I will try my very best to explain my idea for the Leo & Usagi story line

It will be a messy ride cause there are some parts that are missing + my English is mid so buckle up.

(Important information beforehand: this is just the base idea- things might change- but for now- it is what it is)

GOOD? FUTURE - Leo & Usagi

A little bit about Usagi yuichi first:

He’s a rabbit Yokai from another dimension, who came to this reality cause apparently his grand-grandfather was a battle Nexus champion, and Usagi is going - or at least tries to go the same path that he did, and to become the greatest Samurai there is.

He has limited time on this earth to achieve his goals before he will need to go back.

(I’ll explain later the dimensions hopping thing)

But to his surprise- to become the battle nexus champion is much more difficult than he expected - and furthermore - staying in this dimension is harder too-! So he gets a job, Between his training and fighting in the Naxus. Yep- at the pizza restaurant-

From a samurai to a waiter-

And that’s when he meets-

Him 🙄

(Around season 2)

In the classic way of serving the turtles table, Usagi got the first glimpse of Leo and instead of sharing a joke or something, the two somehow end up arguing a little bit about something, and from that day,

It was hate from first sight <3

Usagi tried not to serve them specifically but the universe had other plans and he always ended up doing it, he even asked

“You guys don’t have other places to go to??”

Which Leo replied

“I wouldn’t suggest to tell your customers to go to other places - not great for the business” or something along the lines.

It didn’t got better when the rabbit found out they were Ninja’s as well, and that Leo specifically used a sword similar to him- like- this loud mouth, arrogant- Kappa???

They were more similar that they wanted to admit.

In Leo’s end, he thought messing with Usagi was more funny than actually disliking him? He wasn’t a fan of him don’t get him wrong, he tolerated him at most-

Until some shenanigans happen- I think Leo was on another adventure with hueso that involved Usagi somehow and the two ended up fighting along side each other-

Which Usagi hated fighting along side a ninja but Leo? He thought he was pretty cool- and even tried to befriend Usagi, but the rabbit didn’t want to waste his time on building friendships when his time here were limited, and he will probably will end up leaving and never seeing them again, so he brushed Leo off, which only causes Leo to annoy the hell out of him even more.

I believe it’s only the beginning point of Leo starting to look on Usagi in a more positive light, so no crushes yet-

And from this point forward, the two will meet more and more by accident- or fate- hehe- and fight alongside at times, until one point that Leo said he could take Usagi out with ease- (he actually meant it as a joke- but Usagi took it seriously) and excepted the challenge- cause he will gladly fight and WIN against Leo who- he totally didn’t learn to appreciate a little bit and absolutely didn’t maybe like the times the hang out together- even though most of the time he was his waiter or they where in a life and death situation- that’s not the point-

And that’s when they started to fight aka train together. Their first fight , I’m not sure yet who won actually hehe- BUT since their first fight together, Leo took notes on Usagi fighting abilities, you know- just in case, and in their first fight, Usagi noticed how well Leo predicts his moves, a little to well-! And that’s annoys him as well- cause he’s not predictable!! Or so he believes.

So from fighting it became training, it didn’t happen often, cause each had there own life, but if they did train, it wasn’t in the turtle lair, but on a building roof top or something, and usually by accidentally meeting each other cause to this point- they don’t have each-others phone numbers yet-

BUT EVERYTHING CHANGED WHEN THE SHREDDER ATTACKED.

Usagi, used to see the turtles at leastttt once a week in a random pizza night, suddenly noticed he haven’t heard from them two or three weeks already. Not that he care or anything- they weren’t friends- or something- sure did he enjoy talking with the Red one the most and likes the orange one good energy? Sure sure, just a casual relationship nothing more. Did he get a weird side eye from the purple one that made him feel like he kinda hates his guts? Maybe- he didn’t like them either! They were Annoying as hell too-!

And sure, maybeeee it was nice to talk to someone once in a while, and train with another person, who for some reason kinda gets him but he also wants to push him off a building, his dumb, smug face and his stupid very un-funny (funny) jokes Leonardo might - not be as bad as he originally thought. But again, not friends or anything-

So he totally wasn’t absolutely relived when he saw the gang again , some bandages up, some not, but something felt different, they acted the same but with sense of tension between them. They didn’t elaborate why they were missing for so long- obviously- not friends- remember? But just knowing they were alright was enough for Usagi.

His and Leo’s next meeting was a bit different. The blue one came to the restaurant alone, which did happen sometimes, but instead of going to mess with his boss, or think which Pizza will be the best way to say “I’m sorry”, he just set there all by himself for sometimes now it actually made him feel somewhat bad for him so he tried to- well- he wasn’t sure.

He came up to him and they started to talk a little, it was clear Leo wasn’t in a mood cause he said something like

“Why do you even care?”

He didn’t-! He just tried- to be- nice!

So he went- only to comeback not even 5 minutes later cause ok maybe he did care a little bit-

And they talk for awhile, it’s probably their first conversation that Leo is so open with Usagi. About he’s new role as a leader, which Usagi thought was great-! Being a leader is an honorable position, but Leo explains to him why it didn’t make any sense- which was like??? Usagi was used to arrogant, high confidence, mr. can’t do no wrong cause he’s great in everything Leo and suddenly hearing him being so- unsure of himself- was - odd. So odd that Usagi had to say something- and maybe he came off a little strong with his opinion statement which was

“Are you a complete idiot?”

Sue him-! He did continue by saying that- even though sure Leo wasn’t perfect, from the moments he saw, he has all the qualities

Of a good leader. And the smug he got from Leo kinda made him want to punch him in the face, but they end it on a good tone, couple of pizza boxes to go and finally Leo asked for his number, because APPARENTLY they were friends- and they should be able to contact each other if needed.

The next couple of months, they trained more and more together, Leo may or may not, choose to- run away from a problem by - literally being away from the house when he could, that’s when these two started to get a little bit closer and Usagi told h about his plans with the battle Nexus. He in fact didn’t believe Leo when he told h that he’s a battle nexus champion -

But he was also worried for him, apparently he and a raph were fighting - well 9/10

Of the time. He didn’t want this role and act like that- and when Usagi tried to talk to him about it, Leo would brush it off by leaving or changing the topic.

So imagine to his surprise when one day- apparently something something- aliens attack the human world - something something- everything is ok now- and Leo doesn’t pick up his damn phone even though he was the one to insist to have each others phone numbers so they could communicate!!!

No pressure, I mean what’s the worst that could happen? He did and Usagi will never know? Pfff yea right.

Right?

He wasn’t pleased to say the least when he found out what happened. And what state all the turtle were. He didn’t know to much, just that they were a little bit to hurt to get outside at the moment. That new guy Casey Jr invited him to come and visit, which surprised April the human girl that was with him, APPARENTLY- Our dear fearless leader Leo, didn’t tell anyone- ANYONE- about him getting close to Usagi, or training together?? Talking like- for literally hours?? No? No one? Well apparently that Casey boy knows something- even though Usagi never met him before-

It was devastating to find out Leo’s state, even though he acted - alright , and i guess he went through some character development cause the air between the got a whole lot lighter :)

Leo was also surprised to see Usagi, and then getting a while lecture about the point of a phone, which he replied that he got kinda destroyed, so any complaints send it to the manager of the Kraang, which Usagi didn’t really understand what’s a Kraang, and Leo wasn’t so quickly ready to talk about it either.

Some might say that from this point, Leo was kinda into Usagi, seeing a more caring side of him, after kinda admiring his motivation and fighting skills. Which wasn’t so great cause Usagi didn’t feel the same yet. He was wayyy to focused on his goal which ok- cool but like an imagine having your goal and a boyfriend?

Leo didn’t push to hard even though his dear brothers teased the hell out of him about it.

Once again- shenanigans happens. This time, Usagi tries again and fails to in the last battle of becoming the champion, and so he starts to take the training much more seriously. He tries to tone down with every diversion, and just to focus on this one thing-

But alas Leo. And it will become a problem, cause Usagi doesn’t want to go back home a disappointment, and the stress starts to get to him. He has this weird feelings towards Leo that he avoids, and nothing goes right for him, so he might be a little snappy and agitated. Something something- after some drama , new realizations , help from Leo and understanding that- his path won’t be the same as his grand-grandfather and it’s ok to fail and it’s ok to have goals but not to let them consume you and make you push other people away- especially the one you love,

Love? Yep apparently he like Leo

Well shit.

Leo doesn’t know Usagi will have to leave eventually, Usagi doesn’t want to let this- whatever this thing that goes between them to keep growing cause it will be doomed eventually- it won’t work - it can’t work! And yet-

They end up dating after some heartfelt confessions, Usagi tells him about the fact he has to leave this dimension eventually, and Leo tells him that until then- they can make the most of it.

Meanwhile he and the other turtles, help Usagi to train better for the battle Nexus, and he wins in the end, becoming a champion and all- but-

He didn’t admit out loud be he wasn’t happy with it- it was his only reason to stay here and now that it’s over?

And Leo helped him with it knowing that it will probably end with them breaking up and never seeing each other again- so why? Why did he helped him?

“Because it’s important to you”

He said,

“And you’re important to me”

Since when he was such a romantic?

They are about 19 years old close to 20.

And the portal to Usagi’s worlds will open soon and the next one will open only couple years later if at all-

(The portal basically opens with some magical phenomenal from Yuichi’s world)

they act like everything is ok up until couple of days before Yuichi leaves.

They like to pretend like everything was ok, even though they both knew they will have to talk about it eventually.

And it happens the night he suppose to leave- Leo admits that- if they could do it all again, he wouldn’t wasted so much time on teasing and would have asked him out a lot earlier, which Yuichi replies with

“It wouldn’t work, I wouldn’t say yes”

And Leo would answer with

“I wouldn’t stop asking then until you would say yes”

Y: “that’s harassment”

L: potato tomato

Y: I’m pretty sure the saying is “ potato potatoes”?

They laugh it off and then they will actually talk, I won’t write the conversation just yet hehe

It will be the first time they both admit they actually love each other (rather then liking)

Leo doesn’t ask him to stay, he can’t, ask him to give up his family for him.

Yuichi wants him to ask him to stay but he’s not sure he could really say yea to that-

It was doomed from the start, and they both knew that.

Fast forward ~

5 years later

Who’s back in town?

Out rabbit that right.

There are 2 portals with a gape of 2 weeks between them so he decides to come and visit -

The last couple of years

We’re

Something that’s for sure.

And he’s very very surprised seeing Leo with a freaking human baby-

But it’s very odd to talk to Leo suddenly. He really did change- and so did he.

He goes home after these 2 weeks

And thinks. About everything. About his life, about his goals, dreams, wants.

And in all of them he thinks about Leo.

The next time he visits it’s 2 years later. Yummi - the baby- is 4 years old and she’s a cheeky little girl, which isn’t surprising if Leo raised her.

This time the next portal will open only half a year away- and close for at least another 6 years-

In that time he’s doing a lot of thinking

Serious thinking about his future

Present

And past.

About everything.

One evening, the three of them are coming back home- Leo’s home- after some shenanigans. Leo has to play the soundtrack of high school musical 2 cause Yummi recently watched the movies and is very much obsessed with the songs + music in the car is a very effective way to make her sleepy. and the mission succeed! She falls asleep, leaving the other too with the tuns of “gotta go my own way” from the second movie- which they sing together very passionately cause nothing beats karaoke night !!

Just to make it clear- they are no longer together, they are “just friends”

They get home, Yuicihi putting her to bed while Leo checks up on splinter who’s also asleep and then comes back to Yummi’s room where Yuichi is still there, saying something like

“Thank you for the help, you really don’t have to do all this”

And Yuichi answers

“Of course I do. She’s important to you, and you’re important to me”

They talk a little bit more after that-

And come to the conclusion that they might - can - if the other one wants - to try - maybe - date -

Again ?

And when Leo asked him about returning to his own dimension, Yuichi replies that- he would like to stay as long as Leo is willing to have him here-

And from that point onwards- they are together again- :>

There is more stuff in the future but I digress-

Wow that was longer then I expected it to be- ops-

I don’t like that in Mutant Mayhem Donnie is not a “science guy” but instead is more of an anime and pop culture geek. I’m not against him being an anime fan (I love anime too) but I wish we saw more of his science and being a tech genius side instead of him just liking stereotypical “nerdy stuff”. If that makes sense.

I don’t like the Punk Frogs (any version).

The 87 crossover episodes in the 2012 series (as much as I did enjoy them & are great episodes) should not have happened. They leave no real impact or development to 2012’s overarching story and just waste time. These episodes could’ve covered more important things that 202 was desperately lacking like like character exploration and character dynamic development. It was just nostalgic fanservice. The arc in S5 specifically would’ve work better as a movie instead of a 3-4 episode arc in the (most likely non canon) final season.

Shinigami being Mikey’s second love interests ruins her character a bit (for me personally). That was a pointless decision that did NOT need to happen. She would’ve been our first recurring female character to not be a love interest, but nope!

People are allowed to like/ship Donnie x April in ROTTMNT (this is coming from someone who’s not crazy about April being shipped with the Turtles).

I ship Yuichi with 2012 Leo more than Rise Leo (still ship Rise Leoichi, but I just think 2012 Leoichi is way more interesting, plus 2012 Leo deserves a good love interest).

The humans in Mutant Mayhem look ugly af (I know that was probably an intentional design choice but still. It looks bad.)

I hate Raph x Casey (any ver). I’ve stated in part one that I don’t like Raph (any version) being in a romantic relationship with human characters and yes, that meant him with Casey. Not only that but Raph and Casey being a couple ruins their whole dynamic and iconic friendship I love so much. I’m all for friends to lovers but they are a line that should not be crossed. Not every friendship needs to turn romantic.

2012 Karai’s hair looks bad.

Fans often over exaggerate Rise Donnie’s character and badly mischaracterize him in fanfics and fan comics to the point it makes him feel like he’s an entirely different character.

Shinigami should have been revealed to be a villain.

Rise Donnie was just as mean to his brother as fans claim 2012 Raph was to his. Yes, they both do love their families and I’m NOT saying either of them are abus!ce (they’re not), but fans praising Rise Donnie for doing similar things fans criticize/hate 2012 Raph for doing just makes them hypocrites.

Venus does NOT need to be in every iteration of TMNT. It gets kind of annoying when fans keep on saying that she should be in all the other iterations when in truth her presence would not make sense based on the already established canon story. The only (recent) version of TMNT where I think her being included would’ve fit the best and deserved to make her comeback in is ROTTMNT.

The side plot of 2012 Karai being mutated and later getting brainwashed by Shredder was a waste of time and the most boring arc in the series.

2012 April, Donnie and Casey being in a poly relationship does not fix anything with their problematic dynamic and massive flaws with one another. I'm not saying you can't ship all three of them together, you do you! Idc But in reality their relationship would be a train wreck, that's why I personally don't ship 2012 Capriltello.

Renet is probably one of the most powerful allies the Turtles have in the 2012 series.

Rise Donnie would NOT hate 2012 April. He’d go crazy over her psychic powers and want to study them to help her explore them more.

From what I've seen so far, Leo x Usagi seems like the only GOOD ship in the 2003 series (this hot take might change tho).

Raph had the best character arc and development in the 2012 series and changed the most out of the four brothers. Next would be Leo. With Mikey and Donnie have little development (or none at all sadly).

Yeah sure

90's anime fought against him, didn't kiss him becasue her friends didn't have their last kiss ( because hey she couldn't kiss a corpse but that besides the point) but then in later seasons she is always saying she is the one who have the boyfriend.

Then also they are always telling her that she have to be more " mature and better" in order to fit him.

Manga Usagi didn't rub that in their face and they didn't tell her she need to be better for him.

Filler Episodes are roughly 50% of the damn show.

102 plot 98 filler.

So by that logic she still spends half of the show immature and only acts mature when the plots permits and then the damn reset button comes throught every single season.

And she's the butt of the jokes as well and get called a damn idiot!

They always use Manga Usagi's suicide against her and not understand why she did what she did.

She receives a whole lifetime of memories of a life cut so short in a short period of time.  Memories that can arranged from fun times with her friends, quite times with her mother, hidden times with her lover, and so many in between.  So she get these memories of a life that she never knew she had that ended very tragically. Usagi have this new life where everything seem like it  can work out but then she hits a major roadblock. She try to stay positive while trying to keep a smile on her face and hope for a better outcome before but everything starts to get beak She thinks that she fail him thus she's can't save him and they are doomed for another tragic fate . So out of desperation and grief , she does something that is very drastic which she probably wouldn’t do if she was thinking straight and not in pain.

So she took the sword , stabbed him and stabbed herself which the power of the Silver Crystal was finally released from him and then encasing them... Keep in mind that since she ran into portal after him, ( and trying to get Mina back as well) she doesn’t know if her friends are ok or not. She probably feeling guilty about doing that also.  So she may think” Well they probably going to share the same fate that happen before. I can’t save him so I probably can save them or the world.”  That’s a lot  for a teenager who turned into a super hero few months prior who recently found out she’s a reincarnated princess of  a ruined civilization to take it. But hey, during the course of the series she learns to balance it out. Aka Stars Arc when she was pretty much in the same position as in DK arc but WAY worst.

I guess being kind ,lovely, silly person but can slip into Fuck Around and Find Out when it comes to family and friends is not relatable..

Following one-shots are fandom’s way to fill in the blanks in both Anime and Manga, giving our characters much needed closure and depth. It was hard to decide what to include, so @goddessalthena suggested I do this as Part I, which will allow me to do another post down the road with more (similar to what I did with Christmas stories).

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin, though I started it on audio book, realized I had no idea what was happening, and am now looking for a physical copy.

I need to finish the final volume of Sailor Moon soon but I have this problem where I cannot finish a series, especially if I like it. And also the Sailor Cosmos stuff is REALLY hard to follow so despite having seen the anime multiple times and having read the rest of the series, I'm struggling.

As i did for Squid Game, I am going to write down my thoughts about Alice in Borderland and its ending, which I thought was lovely and satisfying, despite my initial impressions.

1. Firstly are the parallels I picked up on*, given the title and character names:

Arisu: Alice

Usagi: White Rabbit (I’m late, I’m late)

Chishiya: The Cheshire Cat

(Danma) Hatter: The Mad Hatter (and the Beach is his teaparty)

Mira: The Queen of Hearts

Kuina: The Caterpillar*

Ann: The Duchess**

*I did not note this one personally, but looked into it and it made sense, given Kuina’s bent for smoking and the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly

**Also didn’t pick up on this one, (and the connection is less obvious to me) but it’s rumoured along with several more about Arisu’s close friends Chota, Karube, and others.

2. Secondly is the unfolding of the plot:

So Season 2 was much anticipated, and was an interesting change of pace from Season 1. We’ve figured out the mechanics of the game now, the ins and outs of visas, game rules, what the suits mean, and the practicalities of the world. The focus shifted more to understanding how the world came about, who rules it, and most importantly, how to leave.

I loved the ability of the show to keep a steady pace that alternated between the mind-bending, sadistic games that still gripped in both conception and visuals (death by sulfuric acid was terrifyinnggggg I couldn’t watch it) and the middle bits, the exploration of character arcs like the romance between Arisu and Usagi, Ann’s exploration of the physical world, or the persistent questioning about the meaning of life.

3. Lastly was the ending.

I must say I initially didn’t like it. I fully appreciated the nod that was given to the most plausible theories at the beginning of the last episode: Is this time travel? Is this some sort of deep brain simulation? IS IT ALIENS??!?! This part of the Episode 8 conversation with Mira showed that the showmakers (author even?), knew that the audience’s mind had been asking these questions almost since the Moment Arisu arrived in Borderland.

Compared to all of these theories though, saying it was a rogue meteor strike was... a let down. BUT. The more I thought about it, the more I realized it could’ve been anything, tbh, that caused them to be transported, because the point is that ANY near-death experience can take you to Borderland, the space between life and death. And it brings to front and center the conversations that each person had been having thus far about the meaning of life. The hypothesis is that when the body is fighting to survive an accident of some sort in the real world, the mind is also doing a sort of ‘Systems Check’, trying to search for a reason to keep going, a purpose for which to exist. And Borderland provides a place for such a battle to take place, a limbo of sorts where people are forced to remember how precious life is and why it needs to be fought for- enough that they get shaken out of their stupor and wake up.

Of course, this is not a perfect solution. Did Chota and Karube die in Borderland because they didn’t think life was precious enough? (No.) And what happens to the physical bodies of those who choose to become citizens? (They die, eventually. Time works differently in Borderland, but even Game Runners don’t appear to live forever.) I don’t purport to have every answer. I just mean that... by all accounts, /everyone/ affected by the meteor could’ve died. (It was a meteor, which a huge explosion!) But Borderland took the consciousness? souls? of the dead people there and provided a way for /some/ of them to live.

If you look at it that way, Borderland, despite the random death games and constant terror, actually /reduces/ the number of people who die from a mass-casualty event, and, makes sure that, of those that come back to life, most of them are determined to live life to the fullest when they get back.

ALSO, in the Netflix version, we see that the last shot is of a player with a Joker card. This is expanded on a bit more in the manga, but basically he’s some sort of limbo-esque character, giving credence to the idea that Borderland is a last-chance type of world, where, if you fight hard enough, and convince enough people to try with you, and hold on to hope long enough, you can earn one last chance to be returned back to the real world and live.

TLDR; Alice in Borderland Season 2 did not pull any punches with the games, which were as visceral and heart-pounding as ever. I personally enjoyed discussing extensively with my watch-mate about how we would approach each game, and loved seeing the details of the Alice in Wonderland characters woven into the narrative so well. The ending was at first disappointing, but the more I thought about what the Borderland represented, the more appropriate the ambiguity became, and eventually I could accept Borderland for what it is: a train station between the real world and the afterlife, where people fight for the opportunity to go board the train back to the real world and live.

HOW WOULD OTHER BORDERLAND CHARACTERS GET MIRA KANO-ED IN THE Q❤️ GAME? SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!

(By Mira Kano-ed I mean like all the hallucination and manipulation crap that Arisu and Usagi had to go through)

WARNINGS: not-so-bad derealization, mentions of pills, child neglect.

Characters:

Niragi, Chishiya, and Shinrai (OC)

NIRAGI

(honestly I doubt he could have made it to the rooftop without bleeding out or just collapsing and dying cus he was dying for like half the season and coughing up blood and then he literally got shot but IF HE COULD—)

It says on the wiki that he was a game designer, and I took that and ran with it.

He definitely would be a tough one to break, seeing as he got burned, fell off a roof, burned again, and shot in the stomach.

That would be something he would be unable to forget, ever (because he's covered in 3rd degree burns, and has a hole in his stomach)

But experiences can be simulated, and so can pain.

He was a game designer, correct?

Well, his company had started to delve into virtual reality, and he was the first tester for the new VR lenses.

This one wasn't a headset, no, these were lenses, that were put into your eyes like contacts.

But it worked too well. The lenses latched onto nerves in his brain, and would not release him until the game was finished. (neuroscientists don't come for me TvT)

Borders? That's something that occurs in videogames, right? Lasers that come from the sky? That couldn't happen in any place other than a videogame.

*cue visual of lenses being taken out of the eyes*

Mira was one of the people in management at the company, and was working to remove the lenses. She was also the creator of the game, which she called "B🂡RDERLAND".

*cue Niragi realising he's in the "real" world again, but tied to a chair*

Mira tells him that they fear the experience may have altered some of his brain functions, and he needs to take these pills to end the games.

Niragi's always been suspicious of taking pills or consuming stuff that he doesn't fully know the effects of, or just taking consumables from people.

(because he got bullied)

So, he asks what the pills do, while trying to get out of the restraints, as they bring back bad memories, and Mira just keeps telling him they end the games.

He slowly begins to remember that the rules for the game were play 3 rounds and don't quit, and as he struggles against the restraints, and Mira just keeps telling him the pills stop the games,

*cue ripping sound effect*

As the restraints on his arms tear off, he finds himself back in Borderland again.

(we all know that in reality he would have tried to shoot her, and since he's not that rational, probably would shoot her, thus dooming himself (and everyone else I think), but for the sake of this let's give him some rationality.)

CHISHIYA

(just remembered that he's also bleeding out but he was barely fazed by that)

We all know this man wouldn't be affected by Mira's words and would probably manipulate her into letting him win.

Or it'd be a standoff manipulation battle between the two.

Ok, but let's think about what she could to to try (and fail) to get him to quit.

The one thing we've seen Chishiya be even slightly perturbed about was that one scene in the hospital where they had to give the heart to a guy who had made lots of donations to the hospital instead of this little boy whose mother he had promised her son would get better.

She'd probably start on about how the decision haunted him and he'd immediately say "um, no it didn't, sure, I was kinda upset about it, but like, all that taught me is that life is unfair and choices are cruel. Anyway let's play croquet I want this to be over."

Mira would immediately try and find some other memory, but Chishiya hasn't had much stuff to faze him. Like ever.

This man has only been mildly amused or slightly shocked at literally everything in his life.

Mira has nothing to go on here, so all she can do is stall, and keep trying to scan for trauma, but she's got nothing on him.

His mind isn't an iron fortress, it's just plains, with nothing on them. No spikes for hurt memories, no blood for pain, no holes for grief, no.

(If you cover spikes with dirt, it appears as normal ground.)

But anyway. Mira is, for once in her life, stumped.

However, when there is no trauma to prey on, you have to create it yourself.

She scans his mind for anything that could be used against him, friends, family,

All Chishiya's friends are people who he knows are safe, and his family? All his memories of them are locked in stone.

But even if she did find anything, he's fully aware of his situation now, and he's just sitting there at the tea table, grin on his face.

"Let's play croquet, shall we?"

(honestly, if I was Mira, I would be stumped too, because how do you hurt someone when you have nothing to hurt them with?)

SHINRAI (OC)

(I had a dream this morning about her backstory, and I just had to, if you don't want OC content, don't read. Also, TW: Child Neglect, because Shinrai is somewhere between the ages of 9 and 11 (no that's not meant to be a joke), um, yeah that's it, enjoy.)

Quick Before-The-Content:

Kid who ended up in the Borderlands, and has mainly survived because she is a child, and her very high IQ.

Partnered up with Chishiya for some time in phase two, they are kinda alike in personality and intelligence.

Despite being so young, Shinrai is extremely mature, but in the wrong ways, (as in she only got to be a child for 5-6 years before getting put into foster care, she has adult perception of the world, but is a kid inside, so all her emotion and interaction receptors are way massed up), she feels the world is cruel due to having terrible foster parents, who completely neglected her, except for basic needs.

However, one day they got a massive bonus from the company they worked for, and splashed out on expensive clothes and most importantly, a holiday overseas. Also, so she wouldn't complain, they bought her a crapton of toys.

Left for their holiday, leaving Shinrai alone in Tokyo, BOOM! Borderlands time!

OK THE CONTENT STARTS NOW

Shinrai wouldn't be a tough one to convince, as she has a hell of a lot of trauma for Mira to use.

Once the manipulation started, Shinrai would be back in her room, the one in her foster parents' house, surrounded by toys which she didn't have much need for, but had become pretty much her only source of entertainment.

She had built a Lego wall around the front of her room, and within that wall were numerous amounts of dolls.

A handmade doll with dark curly hair and dungarees. A boy in a plushy cat costume.

Herself, Chishiya.

A boy with spiky hair in blue and white clothes. A girl in mountain climbing gear.

Arisu, Usagi.

A strongman and another doll, which had partially melted, due to being stuck behind a radiator and catching fire.

Aguni, Niragi.

A girl in spy gear, and one in a swimsuit.

Ann, Kuina.

An ornate doll with long black hair and a twinkly black dress.

Mira.

Slowly, but surely, she began to realise. All these toys represented people she had met during her time here.

Even Mira.

All her life, her imagination had been hyperactive, creating wild worlds in her head, so was it possible, that this whole experience was something she'd created?

No. Surely not.

The Mira-doll spoke up.

"Your foster carers left you here, and didn't come back from their holiday. Food was running out, and you don't have keys. So, you distracted yourself with these toys."

"You created a whole world in your head. All of this is your doing. You even put yourself in the world." she said, hand moving towards the Shinrai-doll.

Shinrai would probably go into immense shock from this, because, well, it sounded plausible.

But that meant all her friends, all the relationships she'd built, they were fabricated?

"You don't want to live a false life, do you?" said the Mira-doll, eyebrow raising.

"N-No?"

The doll hopped off her pedestal, walk across the floor, and exit the wall through a Lego archway that didn't seem to be there before.

"All you have to do is step out." it said, extending a porcelain hand.

This would be it. Mira would win, and Borderland would continue until everyone's visas ran out.

A hand grabbed onto her trouser leg. She looked back. The plastic hand of the boy with spiky hair.

"Shinrai? Hey, it's me, Arisu! We're all real! Don't listen to her!"

The mountain climber girl came next.

"Yeah! Shinrai it's Usagi! You remember us? We're real!"

The girl in a swimsuit.

"You think all of this is fake? Hell no! Don't go, Shinrai?"

And finally, the boy in the cat costume.

"You think you could have fabricated someone as complex as me? Don't listen to her."

And finally, the illusion would end with Shinrai turning around to the masses of dolls looking up at her with determined eyes, and saying,

"No thanks. I'm staying with my friends."

And am trying to start reading more books. I made the wrong decision to start one million books at the same time but one I’m really hoping to finish this week is Disfigured: on fairy tales, disability, and making space by Amanda Leduc. OH I FINISHED SEASON 2 of (90s) sailor moon and 🥹 MY HEART I think it’ll be a comfort anime now it’s so cute and wholesome!!! I didn’t expect the scene where SPOILER mamoru and usagi break up to pull at my heart strings so bad!! There was just so much potential there, but instead so much time was wasted on Arisu. I'm sorry, I just don't like him, with his fucking hero complex. 😩

It also stresses me out so much not knowing what happens after the end. Is Niragi friends with the others now??? I hope so because he deserves to be loved and have friends. Imagine if Karube had survived, if the two had met, if Karube had made him allow closeness. They would fight all the time, but we know they actually love each other. My poor heart. 💖

i definitely feel like there could’ve been more done with arisu. he felt a little ‘one-dimensional’, for lack of better terminology. i didn’t necessarily hate him (i don’t really ‘hate’ any character in aib actually), but he was a lil boring to me; i was way more invested in the side characters.

i wish there would be a season 3 because i miss new content of the characters, but i know there likely won’t be. i want more details! what happened next? give me an epilogue episode!

also i started writing your request because i had Ideas™ and i just. 450 words of just niragi’s bullying-trauma nightmares. i love. Angst.

usually, since im autistic myself, all I would have to say is dude trust me but ive gathered some evidence anyway

major alice in borderland spoilers

1. we can see him have meltdowns in episode 1 and 4. In episode one, the meltdown is brief and stopped pretty quickly, as everything is happening very fast. karube decides to put all the pressure on Arisu to save them. Karube is leaning over Arisu who has back himself up against a wall when he starts to feel overwhelmed, he gets up and thrashes to get out all the baddness~ (similar to stimming)

in episode four when he had just lost karube and chota in a very traumatic way he gets picked up by Usagi and when he wakes up and he works himself up into a very bad meltdown, he keeps repeating that he has to apologize to them and he's repeatedly banging his head on the ground. keep in mind that everyones meltdowns look different- autistic people with abusive family, like arisu, often have small, quick meltdowns so they won't get abused for having an intense meltdown (my meltdowns are 100% unnoticeable)

2. Arisu happy/focus stims in a lot of unnoticeable ways, i think he probably has learned to subdue his stims because of his family, he probably even has tried to stop stimming completely but it's almost impossible to do so. Here's one point where he happy stims (pushes his knees up and rocks, i stim like that so it was cool to see)

3. Arisu exclusively wears comfortable clothing, he wears plain (maybe with a little writing or a simple pattern) t-shirts most of the time he has a thin jacket over, he wears capris pants or shorts. at the end of the season he wears a button up shirt but it looks soft and with a nice texture. He never wears anything with a rough or uncomfortable texture- like jeans- and never wears anything constricting they're always loose fitting

4. his special interest is video games. this doesn't need much of an explanation I mean it's just what it is, he spends every chance he gets playing video games, like when he's walking and no one is answering him so he starts playing a game- he also gets excited when Usagi asks what an online game is- he wants to info dump and is about to but quickly stops as she looks uninterested

5. he also has a tough time in social situations and cannot always read social cues and doesn't know social norms- when he is with karube and chota- people he has known since he was a lot younger- he is much more relaxed and himself. When in a new group of people or around a new person he often goes temporarily nonverbal- shaking his no and nodding yes primarily. Like when he is with Hatter- he rarely responds to him only saying 2 very quick sentences while the rest of it is him staring and shaking his head (there are actually a lot of instances where he does this im not gonna name everyone of them)

and when he goes to talk to the two girls he is very blunt and doesn't read social cues- yelling out "i wasn't trying to hit on you!!" very loudly as they ran away from him- he can also be very blunt about a lot of things and it often gets him berated or the shit beat out of him. He means no harm with this bluntness, seeing nothing wrong with saying these things. Of course- if it's chota or karube, they dont mind his bluntness- like when Chota has a burned leg and they were theorizing the possibility of the universe they were in was VR. arisu says that VR cant make such a bad injury, chuckling to himself, seeing it as a joke he made. No one else laughed. Also a social norm that he doesn't seem to think about- when Usagi gave him her water bottle to drink he immediately offers it to the two strangers theyre with without asking her first (also an example of his hyper empathy which he shows a lot of throughout the season). he also has "odd" reactions to things in general. Compare his reactions to everyones reactions to everything in the season- you'll see what I mean

6. he can also go into hyperfocused mode (a side note: I believe he has a eidetic memory- as you can see in episode one where he is in hyperfocus mode and he remembers the evacuation map perfectly- which I know eidetic memories haven't been proven to be a thing per se but as they study it- it is commonly found in autistic people) which you can see during the games or when someone is telling him important information- for example episode one:

7. this one is short but it stuck out to me a lot- he is extremely touchy with karube and chota. he is always hugging them and reaching out to grab them, stuff like that but he looks extremely uncomfortable when someone else touches him and he doesn't touch anyone unless he absolutely needs to like life or death situations

in conclusion <3 arisu is autistic (and nonbinary) and you cant say he isn't because i literally gave you evidence and im autistic and nonbinary

From Most to Least Favorite, How Would You Rank Each TMNT 2003 Seasons?

1. Season 4

Really enjoyed Leo’s arc. I love focusing on the effects the traumatic situation had on a character’s mental health. This season improved Leo greatly.

My only gripe is I wished Bishop was a major villain.

2. Season 3

I liked a lot of the episodes and it had my favorite final stories like Ultimate Draco and Exodus.

Same As It Never Was was probably my favorite episode, though I wished there was more payoff with it afterwards.

3. Season 2

S2 has my second favorite finale with the Battle Nexus, and it was an improvement of S1.

It was the season that really got me into the show.

Usagi was a great addition. He’s one of my favorite characters.

4. Season 1

I didn’t get into this season until the Shredder was a major part of it. I mostly found the introductory episodes meh but it was probably because I wasn’t used to the new iteration yet.

It’s higher since the next seasons are not as great.

5. Season 5

I liked the concept but the execution was not as great.

The plot felt rushed and the villain was meh because it was another Shredder. I would’ve enjoyed the story more if it was a new villain.

The other 4 acolytes didn’t serve a purpose other than the writers trying to digress how special the turtles are, which didn’t work since the turtles became the dragons like their mystical instructors.

6. Season 6

The new setting and concept barely keeps this season from last place.

It was a new fresh take, but the more childish tone ruined it for me. Total tone shift distract me most of the time.

The Dark Turtles, Cody, and Sterling were cool editions tho.

7. Season 7

The last season was… disappointing.

I would’ve preferred this season being about the Turtles learning how to relax after all that happened to them. Like, a moment when everything is peaceful and they are not needed to protect the city. Exploring how to move on from their sense of purpose would’ve been fun to see. It would’ve coincided well with April x Casey’s wedding since they are also move towards a different path.

A theory that if i’m correct will have us crying rivers.

People worried about the Sentimonster theory becoming true, that could be the least of our worries.

My theory could be easily be brush aside as nothing more than horror fan fiction, but I think you'll see how I may not be that wrong if you stay with me till the end of this post. Miraculous has had inspiration from many shows, but it is outstanding how much it has from Sailor Moon 90s. Fans of that show who hasn't seen all 5 seasons, there will be heavy spoilers here, sorry. 

Adrien with the kwami of destruction has a parallel with Hotaru, the sailor scout whose protective planet is Saturn, the planet of destruction. When we first saw Hotaru in season 3 she had no idea that the villains behind the attacks on Tokyo where coming from her father, Professor Tomoe and his assistant Kaolinite. Just the very same situation with Gabriel and Nathalie. 

The Amoks from the Peacock Miraculous have a power very similar to the power of the demon seeds from season 3 as well. Akumas are a mix of what demon seeds and the bracelets of Sailor Galaxia (Season 5) could do. By the way akumas in Japanese folklore are demons. Akumas... Demon seeds...

Marinette/Ladybug has her parallel with Usagi/Sailor Moon of course. We've seen how in the past she struggled between Luka and Adrien. Same thing happened in the 5th season of sailor moon. Usagi had Darien but there was this guy named Seiya, a musician who fell in love with Usagi. Seiya Kou. Luka Couffaine. 

Ladybug's power is just about the same as sailor moon's. Ladybug purifies akumas, that's basically what sailor moon was doing since season 1, just not flying akumas. 

There are more similarities but I'll move to that after I get to the main thing. I've explained how Adrien has his parallel with Hotaru and Darien. And what happened to Hotaru in season 3 and Darien in season 5? They died. Afterwards they were saved by sailor moon, but they did die.

You may be thinking "No way that's gonna happen in a kids show". I have four things to say about that:  1.-It has already happened in other shows. Shows aimed for a young audience. 2.-That could be a good explanation for the reason of the sentimonster theory. To make it less traumatic, instead of showing a death Adrien, they would only be showing him disappearing in a dark cloud.

3. -Think outside the story. In the real world that would cause an uproar from the fandom which means huge free publicity for the show which means more money for the production team. 4. -See how the story has been moving this 4th season. It is as if they were preparing to put Adrien/Chat Noir on hold and have Rena Rouge temporarily take over his place in the plot. Chat Noir's destructive power could now easily be replaced by Purple Tigress.

Since this theory is based on the similarities with sailor moon, let me point out some others:

Bunnyx, she can create portals to travel in time and space. Sailor Pluto is the guardian of the door of time and space. If Chloé had been allowed to keep her Miraculous she would had been playing the same role as sailor mars, who had a bit of an aggressive friendship with sailor moon. Pigella, her tambourine reminds me a lot to the tool used by sailor Chibi moon in season 4. And Pigella's power summons a view of a person's greatest wish, in other words, their dreams. Mirrors of dreams were seen in sailor moon season 4. MultiMouse could be Sailor Iron Mouse niece. Chat Noir could be Sailor Tin Nyanko's little brother. Who by the way had a "Chat Blanc" side too. Marinette receives her powers from Tikki, Usagi got her transformation brooch from Luna. Tikki's human form... Luna also has a human form. The other Miraculous boxes... There are sailor scouts from other planets from distant planetary systems. See what I'm talking about. They do share quite a lot. 

I'm aware Thomas made a tweet a while ago joking that Adrien would die and that Marinette was going to need the two miraculous to bring him back to life. As the creator of the show he wouldn't release such a big spoiler. But what if he did give us this spoiler knowing that no one would believe it but it would serve to prepare the fandom for this blow? 

I feel I'm forgetting something but I can't put my finger on what it was. 🤔

Yes I have left them but the fact two of the most popular is public groups so even if you are not joined you can still see the bs...

Like somethings are going to go over a five year head. You as a adult should be able to explain to them simple terms as possible and then when they get older, they will fully understand. But I don't expect a five year old to get concepts that some of these damn adults in this damn fandom who say they are fans of the show since they were kids, still can't get even when it's shown in their damn face and people tell them constantly.
