Summary: Lexa, the best warrior that ever lived, and her cousin Anya accompany the Greek army on its way to Troy to recover Helen, queen of Sparta and Bellamy's wife, kidnapped by the Trojan prince Finn. Will the two lovers and their faithful Myrmidons be able to conquer the impregnable fortress, or will they succumb to fate and the blue eyes of a prisoner?
***
Prologue
The prince woke with a start, his reflection in the mirror across the room panting and looking at him with confused eyes.
Naked, the young man stood from the bed and walked to the nearby cabinet where a servant had placed a golden basin full of water for the night. Shivering despite the fire burning in his room, he submerged his hands and splashed cold water on his face to chase away the images of his last dream without success.
Finn, prince of Troy and son of the benevolent King Marcus, had seen himself herding cattle on Mount Ida, not far from the city. There, three superb women appeared before him and asked that he determine the most beautiful among them. Facing his hesitation, the women disrobed to show him all their attributes, and the prince thanked all the gods for the vision that burned itself in his mind. Still, he could not choose a winner, as the three goddesses were all stunning in their own way.
In an attempt to bribe him, the first one, a stern brunette with long brown hair and dark eyes, introduced herself as Hera, Zeus’s wife, and offered to make him king of all Europe and Asia. The second woman, Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war whose gray eyes stared deep into the prince’s soul, said she would make him the greatest and wisest warrior. The last one, Aphrodite, with her long blond hair and creamy skin, promised him the love of the most beautiful woman on earth: Helen of Sparta.
After careful consideration, the romantic prince made his choice with his heart, and he awarded the prize, an apple, to Aphrodite.
The dream had been most peculiar, so vivid that the young man could remember every single detail clearly, and it kept him awake for the rest of the night.
--
When morning came, Finn put on a woolen tunic and a himation1 with a hood to hide his identity and made his way to a small temple near the palace dedicated to Apollo. Once there, he purified himself and offered a sacrifice to the god before taking the priest to the side and telling him about his strange dream.
Confirming what the young prince had thought, the priest — an old man named Jaha with a gray beard and curly black hair — announced that it had been a vision sent by the Olympians themselves. By declaring Aphrodite the most beautiful of the three, Finn was in the goddess’s good graces. He did, however, give him a warning the woman born of the froth had forgotten to mention. The most beautiful woman in the world, Helen of Sparta, the natural daughter of Zeus and Leda, the wife of the former Spartan king Tyndareus, was a married woman.
Not wanting the old man to grow concerned, the prince assured him that he would not act irrationally. If Helen was destined to love him, the gods would see to it in due time.
After leaving the temple, Finn returned to the palace to devise a plan. Helen’s husband, King Bellamy of Sparta, was a healthy young man. The Trojan prince had no intention of waiting decades for him to fall sick or get killed before he could claim what was rightfully his. With the help of his most trusted friend, a noble by the name of Murphy, the young man came up with an ingenious idea. He would travel to Sparta as an emissary on behalf of his father, King Marcus, and leave with his intended.
Convincing the King to let him go to Sparta took some time, but Marcus eventually relented. The middle-aged king was happy to see his son take an interest in the political life of Troy instead of spending all his time courting young women. The prince had left a trail of broken hearts and stolen virtues in every district of Troy, from the noblewomen to the fishermen’s wives. Over the years, the king had had to pay off more than one scorned husband to avoid scandals.

Atlantis 9
Tumblr media
Previously on Atlantis
“How’s your research coming along?”
“Better, if my Atlantean wasn’t so bad,” Clarke sighed.
From the passenger seat, Lexa just chuckled and gazed out the window. Her knees hit the dashboard, even with the seat the whole way back. Clad in what Clarke had to imagine was her grandfather or father’s old shirt and a rolled up pair of jeans, she nearly dropped her jaw when she came loping out of her grandfather’s cabin. It was downright offensive to look like that around mortals, and Clarke had to remember that Lexa was actually closer to a demi-god, so it made sense. It also seemed somewhat wrong, to see a princess in old, patched jeans and the faded logo of Clarke’s high school, but before the re-do, with the faded orange tiger roaring the school name. And Lexa didn’t have to roll the sleeves up, but she did. She might have, actually, because of how big it seemed on her, but Clarke liked that the collar hung loosely, dipping to the side slightly.
All-in-all, it was a terrible way to start her day of not lusting after the Protector of the Deep.
“You’ll pick it up, don’t worry,” the princess promised. “It’s one of the oldest languages in the world, and you have an amazing tutor.”
“I don’t know about that, but the samples you’ve translated for me are fascinating. I might have stumbled into my dream job.”
“Studying Atlantis?”
“Maybe,” Clarke shrugged. “Someone has to be the expert on it, and it’s lore and discoveries. I just hope to do it justice.”
“You have to practice your grammar first.”
Clarke rolled her eyes and shook her head, much to the passengers amusement. It seemed almost unfair, for her to also be so kind and generous. There had to be a flaw, an Achilles heel, a Kryptonite. But Lexa just smiled and looked at all of the storefronts they passed.
They rode along, the Atlantean bobbing her head to the music that played gently in the background. It was a part of time Clarke didn’t spend much time in herself, tending to avoid the crowds that frequented the oceanside. It wasn’t as terrible in the waning summer time, or the fact that it was the middle of the week. The moment she stepped out of her car though, the smell of fried dough and the ocean made her feel like she was instantly seven years old again, and ready for a day on the pier.
“I’ve watched a lot of movies, and I don’t think this could match any of the fairs I’ve seen. This is…” Wide-eyed, Lexa stared up at the ferris wheel and the roller coaster tracks, the bright colors and cheer. “How could humans get so many things right, and so many things wrong all at one time.”
“We’re a paradoxical species.”
“What do we do first?”
“That’s up to you. Welcome to humanity, Lexa.”
Without even stopping, the princess reached for Clarke’s hand and tugged her toward the pier, eager to see everything. She didn’t let go if she didn’t have to, and Clarke swallowed slightly, reminding herself of her duty to act as an ambassador, to show Lexa some good things, to make it all less scary, and certainly not to be heart-aflutter at any contact, let alone to desire any contact, or notice the ink that slipped out from the rolled up sleeve that moved along a pronounced bicep. Those were all things she was explicitly not-knowing, she decided.
“Lunch first?”
“I could eat,” Clarke nodded as they moved toward the tents and stands of food.
“I remember ice cream from when I was little,” Lexa pointed. “And I’ve had pizza before. Should I try a burger?”
“We’re definitely getting fries and onion rings.”
“Yes, definitely.”
“I’ll even get extra tacos to share.”
“Maybe eating is never the best idea before the rides,” Lexa looked around.
“Afraid you might get sick, you, who rides dolphins and dives to the deepest corners of the ocean?”
“Only thinking of you,” she shrugged. “But if you’re prepared to challenge me, I eagerly await it.”
“Oh, I’ve trained in this my whole life,” Clarke disagreed, stepping into line as they figured out their long, long order. “I am an amusement park expert. Stomach of steel.”
“Alright, we’ll see.”
Clarke nudged Lexa’s side with her shoulder, teasing as well. It was easy and nice, and Clarke felt lighter than she had in years. Even when they found a table and Lexa stretched out, laying down all she’d been balancing in her arms for them to eat, and the dug in, she enjoyed her time away from the lab, something she was not accustomed to doing.
“What do you normally do when you’re back home?”
“Oh, um, I’m usually training or learning, or helping my parents with something. Often my cousin, Anya, and I will go to the bars. I like to spend time in the gardens when I can manage it. Mostly I work though, keeping an eye on things. Protecting the deep, as you say.”
“Rescuing drowning girls?” Clarke teased before taking a bite of taco.
“You were my first.”
“I find it hard to believe.”
“Swear,” Lexa promised, hand on her heart between bites of fries. “I was mocked mercilessly for it by my parents.”
“Aquaman is someone who mocks?”
“Quite frequently.”
“I don’t know if I believe you still.”
“Even drowning, you were the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. It was well worth the mocking. I’d endure even more.”
Clarke blushed and stared at her as she took a bite of a burger before quickly taking a gulp of soda.
“I must be good practice for all of your future damsels.”
“I don’t know,” Lexa shrugged, non-committal. “Did you know that we have a history in my family?”
“You are made entirely of history, yeah.”
“No, I mean… my grandfather rescued my grandmother. That was how they met. He saved her life and they had my father. My favorite story is that it was my mother who rescued my father, or rather, who found him. He knew who he was, but didn’t know about Atlantis. My mother, very stubbornly, as my father explains, decided it was time for a new king.”
“And you rescued me.”
“And I rescued you,” Lexa grinned. “No pressure or anything.”
“Nope, none at all. Imagine if you hadn’t had such a romantic lineage. I might think you were after something, princess.”
“I thought I’d made my intentions pretty clear.”
Clarke met her eyes and they looked at each other. She cocked and eyebrow, staring intently, leaning forward, trying to figure her out and just earning an eye-roll in the process. Lexa had a grin-- one that was half of her lips tugging upward to the left side. She had to know it was a sexy grin. There’s no way someone could do that and not know, Clarke decided.
“If you did in Atlantean, I promise I missed them.”
“Of that, I have no doubt,” Lexa laughed, earning a fry thrown at her from across the table. Another came, she caught it in her mouth and wiggled her eyebrows.
“Your mom got me the job at the Spindrift. I’m not one to take favors or exchange them...”
“Wrong,” she shook her head.
“You?”
“As if my mother would let me do anything with her baby. I think she loves it more than me, to be honest. I might have been an easier birth, but she’s never been so obsessed. It’s her life’s work.”
“And you aren’t?”
“Not comparatively, but it was your research in botany that our healer found so interesting she wanted to work with you. You’re going to have to give her some of your plants, with instructions and uses, by the way. She’s offended you haven’t traded with her yet.”
“No one told me I was supposed to trade!”
“It’s just common courtesy to share. This is why the land will never get all of our secrets.”
“We didn’t think you’d want anything of ours.”
“I think ice cream would go over well in Atlantis,” Lexa shook her head, eyeing the stall from across the boardwalk.
There was a graveyard of food between them, and Clarke regretted making herself eat so much to try to keep up with someone whose metabolism was surely over nine thousand. But the deed was done and she was going to be tough.
“Your healer really wanted to work with me?” Clarke asked after a heavy sigh. She eyed the princess warily.
“Is it so hard to believe that someone might want you?”
“I guess I just hadn’t thought about it. My last boss got blown up, and I had to fight to get that internship. I think I’m afraid of anything that comes easily.”
“I could be more difficult if it would help.”
There was the grin again and Clarke very desperately wanted to tug on Lexa’s earlobe. She wasn’t sure why, just that it felt like the right touch.
“Let’s go on some rides, shall we? Even if you find them more boring than jumping a hundred feet in the air or swimming with sharks.”
“I could introduce you to some lovely sharks if you’d like.”
“I’m okay, thanks.”
Clarke stood and earned a shrug, a very genuine offer, from the princess. She shook her head and once again, Lexa grabbed her hand, this time as it was held out to her, and they made their way down the boardwalk.
XXXXXXXXXX
The sunset seemed to take its time, pausing the sky in a pink purple hue. It seemed like even the rotation of the earth slowed, keeping the day for as long as it possibly could. They’d done everything imaginable, and both seemed to forget that there was a world anywhere else.
Clarke hid against Lexa’s shoulder on the rollercoaster while the princess shrieked and laughed as the car move and wove along the coast and out over the water. Lexa won a shark stuffed animal with the strength contest, swinging the hammer down with a thunk that made everyone think there’d be a hole in the pier when she lifted it up. She grinned sheepishly at Clarke who shook her head and tried to hide her giggle at the antics. There were more snacks, with cotton candy and candy apples ranking high on the list over pretzels and funnel cake, something Clarke argued vehemently against, though Lexa stood firm in her tier system.
They rode the carousel. They took pictures in the photobooth after watching dancers move in extraordinary ways. There were the games, where Lexa nudged Clarke’s water gun, earning a do-over and her win nullified in the derby. There was the whac-a-mole game the princess let the girl from the land win by three, to make it look believable. There was an entire day chatting and hanging out in a way that felt so real and normal, Clarke had to keep reminding herself that this was her friend, and Lexa wasn’t particularly putting the moves on her, she just didn't know anyone else.
“I can’t wait to see what you have planned for tomorrow,” Lexa grinned, leaning over the farthest edge of the pier, gazing down at the blue water that churned beneath their feet. The were away from some of the noise, just a few of the last of the fishermen, seeing if there was any other luck to be had for the day.
“I have a job, unlike you,” Clarke teased, sharing her cup of ice cream to Lexa’s spoon. “And I should probably do it, or else the queen of Atlantis might get offended.”
“Nah, she’s harmless.”
“I’ve been informed otherwise.”
Lexa chuckled and nodded.
“When can I see you again?” she asked, turning her head and offering her ice cream cone this time, allowing Clarke a lick.
“You’ll get sick of me at this rate.”
“Unlikely.”
“I can always come by after work, or we could--”
“No, yeah, that sounds good,” Lexa nodded eagerly, perhaps too eagerly. She cleared her throat and looked back out toward the horizon. “If you want, of course. I don’t mean to put you on the spot.”
“No, I would,” Clarke nodded just as eagerly. She toyed with the peeling paint on the ledge. “I could--”
A scream interrupted them though, before she could finish. Lexa stood up a little bit straighter and looked around for the source, finding a woman waving her arms and pointing down at the water from even farther down the pier.
“My baby!” she screeched. “Someone! She slipped.”
“I’m going to go--” Lexa muttered, handing over her ice cream cone. She stripped off her shirt and handed it to Clarke. “Hold this, please.” Her shoes came next, Clarke picking them up as they trotted, though Lexa got ahead of her quickly.
In a graceful move, the princess was over the railing and diving the fifty or so feet down into the ocean. Clarke watched the muscles of her back as she hoisted herself up and gulped, but by the time she peered over, there was just a splash and nothing else.
“It’ll be okay,” Clarke offered the frantic mother. “Come on, let’s get to the beach.”
It took serious coaxing, but they hurried along, police trailing them at the commotion. The entire way, the mother shook her head and babbled, her tears obscuring any true meaning behind the words.
By the time they made it to the sands, their feet nearly a blur going down the steps, there was a girl with tattoos on her back, hidden only by a sports bra, doing CPR on a tiny little girl. A crowd had already formed, and Clarke held her breath as she met Lexa’s eye who frantically did all that she could, though the scientist could tell she was losing hope.
But as the compressions continued, the little girl began to cough, and the princess breathed a sigh of relief, helping to turn her to the side to help the water out. Clarke hadn’t realized her breath had been held just as long. The mother hugged her daughter and someone else in the crowd tried to clear the way for the paramedics. Lexa just nodded and moved out of the way as they tried to talk to her.
“Now my pants are wet,” the princess complained as she made her way to Clarke, accepting the shirt handed back to her.
Clarke stared at her abs, because she had those. She couldn’t help but gawk at the sports bra and the little v thing that was always so sexy it was brain numbing. Clarke felt brain numbed. She felt insanely warm, all of a sudden, despite the sun trying to set still. Shamelessly, she watched Lexa brush some of the water from her skin before the medics offered her a towel. The pants were definitely too big, hanging on her hips. Low. Too low for the family-friendly audience that’d formed. Much too low for Clarke to not notice. The V wasn’t just two lines that made you think it was a V. It was nearly the V.
“Thank you!” the mother leapt into Lexa’s arms as she toweled herself off, or at least attempted it. “God bless you. You’re an angel. I can’t thank you enough--”
“No, it’s fine. Truly. Happy to help.”
The women kissed her cheeks and hugged her again before returning to her daughter. There were phones out, and Clarke knew enough to be nervous for Lexa’s new notoriety.
“We’re going to have to work on your banter with victims.”
“Ours is going well.”
“Yeah, but happy to help? That’s not really that cool.”
Lexa chuckled to herself as she tugged her shirt on, hanging the towel on a bench as Clarke pulled her from the crowd, hoping to get away without too much notice. Quickly, the climbed the steps and returned to the pier, now somewhat empty after the display and danger afoot.
“Where’s my ice cream?” Lexa furrowed, looking at Clarke’s now empty hands after shimmying on her shoes.
“I had other things to worry about.”
“Did you see me jump? Pretty high up. Impressive display, wasn’t it? And you dropped my ice cream cone?”
“You were stripping and I had to keep track of everything.”
“I should have kicked off my pants,” Lexa decided, shaking her head. “I hate being wet and dry at the same time.”
“There’s always next time.”
The pair giggled to themselves as they came to a stop. They were quiet though, smiling together, turned away from the spectacle on the other side, and instead taking in the last glimpse of sunlight before the night. Lexa moved some hair from Clarke’s eyes and let her other hand linger on the scientist’s waist.
“I really do like your hair cut.”
Clarke shrugged at the compliment.
“I can’t believe you just did that.”
“Touched you?”
“Jumped in to save that girl.”
“What else was I going to do?”
“People could figure out you have powers. It’s dangerous. You know that.”
“I’m not going to sit around if I can do something,” Lexa shook her head.
Clarke furrowed as they both watched the waves crash against the beach. She was trapped in the whirlwind again and unsure of what to do about any of it.
“We were discussing seeing each other again tomorrow,” Lexa reminded her. “Before you threw away my ice cream cone for saving a child.”
“I didn’t--” Clarke huffed and earned a nudge and that grin, that fucking grin. “I have to work and you have… you have to explore and find other people to connect with.”
Lexa nodded and set her jaw, finally turning to look at the girl beside her. She didn’t understand the shift, but she knew enough to know that the moment was different than before, and she’d effectively reminded Clarke that her life came with this type of intrusion and worry. The girl she was just trying to get to know, who was insanely closed off, was shutting up tightly again, and she didn’t want that.
“Have I not been clear about my intentions with you?” Lexa furrowed. “I want to spend time with you. I want to go on more dates.”
“This was a date?”
“I thought so,” she murmured, worried she’d gotten it wrong. “My dad said dates were something fun, just the two of us. And I should make you laugh and win you prizes.”
“It can be a date,” Clarke nodded. Lexa scratched the back of her neck and kicked her shoes awkwardly. “I hadn’t imagined I would go on a date with you.”
“Am I that bad?”
“Quite the opposite.”
“I don’t want to date every damsel,” Lexa promised. “I just really want to kiss you.”
Clarke sighed as a warm hand encompassed her cheek, and a thumb ran against the bone there. She couldn’t help but lean into it. She couldn’t help but root her hands in the edges of the old shirt, watching her fingers twist there before looking up and seeing Lexa’s curious eyes. They were every color, and the pupils were blown. Her hair was slightly damp, the edges dripping into the collar of the shirt and drying more wild than before, as if it thrived in the salt water.
“I wanted to kiss you in the gardens. I lost my nerve. You were hurt. I didn’t want you to feel like you owed me anything--”
“I don’t.”
“Not even a little? I did save your life-- ooouufff.” Lexa winced with the pinch on her side. “If you kiss me, it has to be because you want to.”
They were standing closer than before. Lexa liked how it felt, to  be that close. She realized there might have been something to the curse of the first, that her father had warned her about. There was no coming back from your first damsel, though Clarke seemed like anything but someone in need of saving very often. She had freckles across the bridge of her nose. They’d emerged after their day in the sun. Lexa liked them. It seemed like a weird thing to like, but she didn’t care.
“I’m fairly sure that superheroes just go for the kiss. It’s sweeping and dramatic and such,” Clarke informed her.
“Well, I’m not one of those yet,” Lexa shrugged. “I hope this is enough for you.”
With that, slowly, Lexa leaned forward and kissed Clarke. It was soft and excruciatingly polite until hands slid up her back and gripped on her shoulders in the most feisty way imaginable, to which she shuddered. It was a sweeping and dramatic kiss, though neither knew how it could happen so innocently.
“What are your intentions, Aquagirl?”
Clarke earned a shrug and that grin, that godforsaken grin.
“I’d like to take you for some ice cream, if that’s alright? Mine got interrupted.”
“Alright.”
“You know what my intentions are,” Lexa murmured after a beat, still not dropping her hands, Clarke’s still rooted against the shirt on her back. “You just have to let yourself believe it.”
“Fat chance. It’s been dreamland for me for the past few months. Owww!”
“Did you wake up?” she asked after her pinch.
“Shut up.”
“We should probably stop pinching each other.”
“Stop deserving it and I will.”
“Seems unlikely.”
“It does.”
Locked in a stalemate, the two remained rooted on the boardwalk, the lights and noise blurring around them while the ocean crashed. Lexa was prepared for the mockery of her father and even her grandfather. Hell, she was ready for the scoldings from her cousin. She wasn’t ready for this to end though. Not by a long shot.

eight by sleeping at last was written for lexa ;
/i remember the minute it was like a switch was flipped i was just a kid who grew up strong enough to pick this armor up and suddenly it fit/
/now you won't see all that i have to lose and all i’ve lost in the fight to protect it i won't let you in, i swore never again i can't afford, no, i refuse to be rejected/
/when i see fragile things, helpless things, broken things i see the familiar i was little, i was weak, i was perfect, too now I'm a broken mirror/
and god. THIS
/i'm standing guard, i'm falling apart and all i want is to trust you show me how to lay my sword down for long enough to let you through/
/here i am, pry me open what do you want to know? i'm just a kid who grew up scared enough to hold the door shut and bury my innocence but here's a map, here's a shovel here's my achilles' heel/
i feel like this whole song is written word for word about lexa and her internal struggle between commander lexa and just lexa.
/i'm all in, palms out i'm at your mercy now and i'm ready to begin i am strong, i am strong, i am strong enough to let you in/

Waiting to Fall - Chapter Seventeen
Ai Laik Heda
Part III of What We Deserve
Tumblr media
In the penultimate chapter, Clarke and Lexa finally return to Polis. After months of recovery, it’s time for Lexa to face off against Roan for the future of the Coalition - and all Clarke can do is watch.
That's when it happens. It happens just slow enough that Clarke knows what's coming a blink before it arrives: Lexa, in the midst of a flurry of blows that has Roan giving ground, roars. She throws her weight just a little too far behind her attack, leaves her off side just a little too open. When Roan parries her blade he swings his sword low and, without fear of a quick return from Lexa, steps forward and around her. Before she can recover, before she can recenter her weight, Roan sweeps the tip of his blade up from the ground to the sky and it brings an arc of black blood with it. And Lexa screams.
Clarke's nerve endings, from the tips of her toes to the ends of her fingers, flare painfully, glaringly to life at the sound. In her nightmares, Clarke has heard Lexa scream in pain - any number of terrible things happen to Lexa in her nightmares, and she always wakes up panting and sweating, eyes searching desperately until they land on the woman sleeping next to her. But she's never heard it outside of her head, and the real thing is so much worse than she could have ever imagined.
Lexa's right knee hits the ground with an audible thud. The back of her calf is, of course, still covered in dark fabric but even so Clarke can see the rip that Roan's sword has left in her pant leg - and in her skin. It looks like it just barely missed her Achilles' tendon, but the wound is long. It curves around the back of her calf and up toward the inside of her knee.
It's also deep. Black blood spills from the open wound onto the dirt, already forming an inky pool. Lexa digs the toe of her right foot into the ground and grits her teeth, clearly attempting to stand - but her leg won't support her weight, and she exclaims in pain as her foot slips out from under her and she falls to her knee again.
Her and Roan seem to realize this at the same time. It leads to a pair of jerky, reactionary movements: Lexa lashes out with her sword but he parries and shoves its tip into the dirt. Then two things happen in the same terrible second: Lexa grits her teeth and lifts her sword, and Roan roars and stomps one armored boot down on the center of the blade.
And just when Clarke hoped that things couldn't get much worse, Lexa's sword snaps in half.
Breath leaves Clarke's lungs entirely.
Read on Ao3.

Greek mythology!anon here. The song I was listening to that made me think of Clarke and Lexa vs Patroclus and Achilles is Saturn by Sleeping at Last. And I just kept imagining their souls meeting again and again across time so that even though their stories can be tragic, it is still hopeful too. They will always find their way back to each other.
i am –and i cannot stress this enough– close to goddamn tears.
anything by sleeping at last hurts me, physically hurts me. but saturn is the one that digs the knife a little deeper. and now i’m thinking about them losing each other in a battle field just to find each other in a castle, a classroom, a hospital, a street that neither remember the name of, in each and every au that has ever been written about them

love triangle
lmao @ my complicated history with love triangles and being haunted by CW shows through the ages. My Achilles heel is that there always seems to me to be a clear, superior choice and the person always chooses wrong anyway? Like Stefan was the right choice for Elena. Dan was the correct choice for Blair. And I never even went there with Twilight but like obviously Jacob was the superior choice before the imprinting on Bella’s baby thing.
Rarely have I seen a love triangle play out and be like “both of these are equally good choices and I see why he/she is torn” lmao. I enjoyed how Riverdale dealt with the Veronica/Archie/Betty triangle in the Pilot episode (ONE AND DONE) before it dragged it back four years later to haunt my life.
I like both Lexa and Bellamy as romantic options for Clarke on the 100 but she was never torn between them in a romantic way.
I would have enjoyed a Veronica/Reggie/Archie triangle with Veronica torn between her two favourite himbos but alas, that was cruelly ended before we could see it play out.
I liked the love triangles in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movies! They were cute! And nobody was, like, a rapist or abusive or plainly offensive so it was just enjoyable rather than infuriating.
send me “what’s your favourite” asks

Technically, Jo knows from watching memories and from watching real life interactions so it's the same as Diyoza knowing just by observing. Clarke could still be completely oblivious especially because that's what self doubt does
historyofbellarke replied to your post
Why would clarke know it? Josephine knows by his interactions with him and Clarke might just think Josephine is reading something that isnt there.
lol oh man. ok SO i basically figured out while i was writing this reply that this was one of those things where it was like: i totally knew what i meant when i said it but clearly had ZERO PLAN for actually articulating it because i had no idea how to explain what i was trying to say lol. so here is me basically just word vomitting and trying to sound out exactly what i meant by this even though i knew what i meant. also this got really long and rambly and might have diverged from the actual point so just, like, bear with me lol…
i could see the point about Clarke thinking Josephine was just seeing something that wasn’t really there or Jo knowing just by observation. BUT, technically, Jo isn’t really just an third party observer or an objective and unbiased watcher is she? or at least, she’s not an observer in the sense that she’s on the outside looking in. she is distinctly on the inside, literally inside Clarke’s mind. she’s also not watching Clarke’s interaction with Bellamy in real time. she is watching past actions and events, and gaining access to past emotions and feelings, all conveyed from Clarke’s pov. yes, Jo is acting completely based on her interpretation of Bellamy and Clarke’s relationship. but THAT interpretation is still completely based in and on the way that Clarke, and Clarke’s own subconscious and subjective memories, are conveying the information. we always present information with a bias, we are always creating a narrative, even if we aren’t conscious of it. and so everything Jo has been able to determine about Bellamy and Clarke’s relationship has come from the story that Clarke’s memories showed her.
there is this quote i really love by May Sarton: memory is merciless. and i would say that is definitely true for Clarke. we know for a fact from Clarke’s own projections that Clarke’s memories that Clarke does have a lot of self doubt. Clarke doesn’t do herself any favors, she doesn’t cast herself in any kind of overly positive light at all, and there are so many things she’s done that obviously still haunt her. and we know Clarke has some unresolved guilt about Bellamy specifically. we know both from actual!Clarke putting “leaving Bellamy in the fighting pits” as her sin in her lantern, and from mind space!Clarke and her interactions with projection!Bloodreina (“i thought you actually cared about Bellamy.”) also based on that conversation, we also know Clarke clearly has some doubts surrounding her relationship with Bellamy and whether or not he actually forgave her. it would be really easy, i think, for Clarke’s memories to paint a pretty harsh picture of her and Bellamy’s relationship and his opinion on her. but based on Jo’s actions towards Bellamy and the things she’s said to him, i don’t think that’s the case.
Josephine has different strategies for when she simply wants to antagonize people vs. when she wants to manipulate them. and we know Jo has used romantic relationships specifically to manipulate others thus far...
with Abby, her trump card go-to’s were Kane and Jake, men Abby loved. one man she lost, and another man she was terrified of loosing.
she also did it to Clarke: “that’s why you always cry when you think of Lexa.”
additionally, looking back, not only do we know that this particular persuasive technique isn’t necessarily new to her; but also that it’s been used on her and she knows from personal experience that it works. in 6x06 (Memento Mori) Russel asks her “what the hell's the matter with you? have you become so callous to the feeling of others that you don't remember what it's like to lose someone you love?” at this point I think it’s relatively safe to say that he was talking about Gabriel, and that clearly had an effect on her.
if Jo’s goal was to just to get a rise out of Bellamy, there are soooo many other things that she could have brought up...
the estranged sister he couldn’t save.
the dead mother he got locked up.
participating in Pike’s nighttime attack on the Grounder army.
being locked up and tortured in mount weather.
the first and second Mount Weather massacres, both of which he feels somewhat responsible for.
And that would just be naming a few. There are even explicitly romantic relationships she could have used...
Gina- the ex GF whose death he feels responsible for. “too bad you were never that devoted to Gina.”
Ech0-the current gf who tried to kill his sister. hell he thought for a while that she DID kill his sister.  the woman who he trusted as an ally who then turned around and stabbed him (well his gf, but still) right in the back. the the traitor who he loves.
now obviously Jo doesn’t have access to Bellamy’s in depth memories the way she does Clarke’s. but she did tell him she knew a lot about him now, just based on being in Clarke’s head, and I think she would definitely know enough to be able to simply antagonize him. but that’s not what’s she’s trying to do, she wants to manipulate him. and hell, there could have been PLENTY of other things she could have brough up specifically for the purpose of manipulating him. plenty of other ways she could have made him emotional and torn his heart strings...
Monty and Harper: is this really what they would want? for you to start ANOTHER war?? is this really doing better??? is this the life they would have wanted for their son?!?
Gina: do you really want to be responsible for the death of another person you love? you want to be responsible for another woman’s painful death?? because if she doesn’t submit to Jo, Clarke’s death will be painful.
Madi: do you really want Madi to have to watch her mother die a prisoner (yes Clarke is more like a metaphorical prisoner, but she’s still a prisoner in her own body) just like you did.
Ech0: don’t you want an opportunity to just settle down with the woman you love? get married, have kids, build a life together. isn’t that what you’ve been fighting for?? aren’t you tired of fighting?!?
but she doesn’t. She clearly sees Clarke as at least one Bellamy’s significant Achilles heels, and she is basing that on information she has taken solely from Clarke. and there is plenty of other evidence that Josephine knows and understands the importance of their relationship: she literally told her father that if Bellamy found out Clarke was dead, he would tear sanctum down and burn it to the ground. she even knew that the sure fire way to get Clarke to give up was to tell her that Bellamy already gave up on her. she knew that Bellamy giving up on her would make Clarke give up on herself. (i would argue that that is one pretty straight up example that, somewhere in her subconscious, Clarke fucking knows how she feels about Bellamy.)
Josephine really isn’t just an outsider looking in, she is an insider watching past actions and events specifically from Clarke’s perspective. she has special access to specific information that paints past events in a certain light. and because of that, i don’t really think you can make the inference that she would, all by herself, be able to get to the point of knowing that the best way to manipulate Bellamy was to use Clarke. and also, Jo is far more calculated than that. no matter how desperate she’s getting to get rid of Clarke, she’s not going to just, like, try throwing everything at the wall and hope something sticks; she doesn’t have time for that. i would even argue that because she’s getting more desperate to get rid of Clarke, Jo is going to try her goddamnedest to find whatever will work best and go with it real hard. she has more and more incentive to get rid of Clarke and, therefore, more and more incentive to figure out a way to manipulate Bellamy into helping her.
i do think it’s a valid argument that Jo is able to get way more information about Clarke’s feelings (as opposed to Bellamy’s) from Clarke’s subconscious and memories, that is relatively obvious. and i also think that Clarke is waaayyy more aware of her feelings for Bellamy than he is of his feelings for her (lord, his excuse to Ech0 about why he was worrying about Clarke while she was dancing with Mr. Hot Doctor Prime was laced with so much denial it was more potent than a pot brownie), OR that she is of his feelings for her for that matter, at this current juncture. but there also has to be something that told Jo that Clarke is just as important to Bellamy as she is to him. so unless Jo got herself some sick shipper goggles, i would argue that implies that somewhere in her subconscious Clarke knows that she and Bellamy’s relationship isn’t an ordinary one. and not just because of the circumstances under which they met, or everything they have been through together either, but because of the feelings they have for each other. not matter how smart, or observant, or sociopathic Jo is, there are things she just couldn’t have pulled out of thin air and come up with all by herself. they didn’t come from nowhere, they came from Clarke.
so, in conclusion…i would say that Clarke been knew.
(**i feel like i have to add the disclaimer that none of this is how i personally feel about Clarke or Bellamy. like, I obviously don’t think Bellamy got his mom killed. this is from a perspective of how Jo would use the information to antagonize or manipulate them.**)
