PICK A CARD ⭒ five years from now... if you weren’t afraid to go after your dream life
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
reminder that this is a general reading and messages found here may not apply to everyone. take what resonates, leave what doesn't, and don't force anything if it does not fit.
BOOK A READING WITH ME · LINKTREE · 18+ PATREON · SUGGEST A PAC TOPIC · TIPS ♡ tips, bookings, and feedback are highly appreciated!
GROUP ONE
cards · four of pentacles, five of swords, six of swords, the world, two of wands, aventurine: luck, prosperity, fulfillment.
channelled songs · remember forever by red velvet. saturn - acapella by sza. [theme song] wu ji - chorus edition by xiao zhan & wang yibo. fear by seventeen.
my dear group one ♡ five years from now, if you weren’t afraid to go after your dream life, you might still see some tough times. you may still be watching your pocket closely, because while you are happy and fulfilled you are still not doing so well financially.
though, for many of you, this may not be a problem at all. money is only one aspect of life. especially for you, as your life will be so abundant -- so full of riches -- in other ways.
this group, your dream life may be one where you are travelling, studying, and participating in community engagement. something where you are working for the greater good in underprivileged communities. gardening, farming, and communes come to mind.
if you were to go after your dream life, you may be travelling more in the next five years. and while you may not have any roots set down or a stable home per se, you will still feel stable and settled down. you will feel free.
you may also be deciding whether or not to make a long-term commitment to someone who is not only a colleague but a lover, a partner who you would have done a lot of your travelling with.
Tumblr media
GROUP TWO
cards · the moon, three of pentacles, ace of pentacles, king of cups, queen of pentacles, knight of cups, two of cups, onyx: willpower, strength, protection.
channelled songs · sweet honey buckiin’ by beyoncé. broken clocks by sza. drowning pool by bbymutha. shake it out - acoustic by florence + the machine.
my dear group two ♡ five years from now, if you weren’t afraid to go after your dream life, you may find yourself walking a completely unexpected path. a path that you had never before considered, but that was almost destined for you.
it is a path that will make you believe in destiny and fate.
the story of how anok yai was discovered comes to mind, as well as the movie ‘yes, no, or maybe?’(2020). in both cases, we see people who were just going about their normal lives when -- bang! -- everything changes. suddenly, they are discovered. suddenly, they are aligned with what is actually better suited to them, or better meant for them.
go after your dream life without hesitation. enjoy your life. but do not be surprised when, almost overnight, the life you live changes. the goal changes. the dream itself changes.
for some of you, you will find yourself surrounded with art and the arts. but all of you, you will be enjoying every single moment of this new life -- even though this is what you never imagined for your life or never what you saw for yourself.
Tumblr media
GROUP THREE
cards · nine of pentacles, three of cups, ten of wands, page of pentacles, the emperor, three of swords, carnelian: renewal, endurance, power.
channelled songs · do they love you? by mood. only a memory by icon for hire. doja by central cee. maps by maroon 5.
my dear group three ♡ five years from now, if you weren’t afraid to go after your dream life, you may already be ready to retire. you may enjoy relative fame and success and be able to amass a comfortable amount of wealth so that you do not have to work hard -- or work that hard.
you will have a lot of freedom in your personal and professional lives. you will get to choose your projects. but, you may also find yourself being heavily scrutinised. you may find yourself being judged, no matter what you say or do.
as a result, five years from now you will find yourself often weighing the pros and cons of the life you have created for yourself; wondering if you should have done things differently somewhere along the lines, because while you are generally happy and fulfilled you also feel like you’ve sacrificed your privacy and personal life.
you’ll be financially fulfilled, but you may also be looking at other ventures and branching out into other careers or hobbies. which, you will now fully be able to do becauseyou do not have to worry about money anymore.
Tumblr media
GROUP FOUR
cards · nine of swords, the tower, ten of swords, the chariot, the hermit, seven of pentacles, moonstone: peace, travel, balance.
channelled songs · alive by shinee. terrence loves you by lana del rey. memory of childhood by jia peng fang. gesture by leo.
my dear group four ♡ five years from now, if you weren’t afraid to go after your dreams, you may find yourself feeling hopeless. something you worked really hard for (this dream) may come crumbling around you and you may find yourself having a dark night of the soul or a ‘god why?’ moment.
during this time, you may have to move back home or back in with your parents, or you may have to rely on your partner to support you financially until you get back onto your feet.
and you will have to get back onto your feet. you will have to get back up and start over and start working towards your dream once again -- this time, changing your plan or your approach.
remember, take every ‘failure’ as a learning moment. a growing moment. not as something to discourage you.

Hiiii, if it's not too much, can you describe the biggest differences between the live action characters and the novel characters in MDZS? They are a lot, so I will love even the difference between few of them! I haven't seen the live action and I don't know if I will ever, but I am curious, considering all the meta. Anyway, thank you in general, even if you don't answer!
Hello anon! This has been in the inbox forever because there are soooo many ways to answer this! However, let me be transparent that I've watched maybe like 1/10 of CQL. Among other obstacles, I simply do not care that much about Lan Wangji and he's always there (even though Wang Yibo is giving it his all... it's not his fault I'm a hater...). Chewing through a book with Ms. Mxtx's commentary was just more enjoyable to me, and even then, to be honest, I still liked SVSSS better. (I just love Shen Yuan/Shen Qingqiu so much. That dude is wild.)
Still, the live action definitely affected how I understood certain characters (...primarily Nie Huaisang) and made me interested in relationships that I didn't pay any attention to in the novel. (I freely admit that the nieyao brainrot is 100% CQL's fault.) Also I found Wang Zhuocheng's Jiang Cheng very cute and loveable. It definitely contributed to my Jiang Cheng Brain Disease.
LISTEN. HE HAS BIG SAD EYES AND THE MEANEST SNEER AND HE MIGHT BURST INTO TEARS AT ANY TIME. HE IS A BABY. A baby who could kill you with his terrifying lightning whip! But a baby nonetheless, to me.
So if you want someone with a real and knowledgeable opinion on the live action, I'm probably not the right person for that! However, here's one difference that changed a bunch of stuff about the characters that I found compelling in the novel: the second flautist.
CQL adds Su She as a second flautist doing unorthodox cultivation in a couple of different places, including at Qiongqi Path, where he seizes control of Wen Ning and is therefore responsible for Jin Zixuan's death. Removing the responsibility for Jin Zixuan's death from Wei Wuxian creates a bunch of cascading character and relationship implications that I don't love.
Firstly, all of the people who cautioned Wei Wuxian against his unorthodox cultivation are now... wrong. If he never lost control, then actually his assessment that he could maintain control wasn't overconfidence, it was just true, and he was persecuted because the Jin needed a scapegoat and wanted the Yin Tiger Tally, not because his cultivation path actually involved significant risks and drawbacks. (To be fair, the Jins actively exploited those drawbacks, the public perception of his cultivation, and Wei Wuxian's failure to manage his reputation. But it matters whether the risks exist or are just made up.)
Secondly, removing his responsibility for Jin Zixuan's death transforms both Wei Wuxian's character and how we understand his relationships with Jiang Yanli, Jiang Cheng, and Jin Ling. Because, in the novel, he kills Jin Zixuan under duress but also after a lifetime of conflict with him. Like, he hates the dude, he doesn't think he's worthy of Jiang Yanli, and he's not willing to examine his hatred and resentment even though Jiang Yanli loves Jin Zixuan and wants to marry him, even after she marries him and has a child with him. (I would argue that a lot of the resentment is because of the eventual marriage; by marrying Jiang Yanli, Jin Zixuan becomes legally recognized family to the Jiang siblings, while Wei Wuxian's relationship with them has no social recognition; I think Wei Wuxian is deeply threatened by that but can't articulate it.) It's a huge failure! Like, dude, you loved someone and you killed that person's beloved spouse. That points to a certain degree of repressed jealousy, possessiveness, longing, arrogance, the list goes on... I am so compelled by that conflict, and the adaptation just erases it.
This also affects how we read Jin Ling's relationship with Wei Wuxian. In one scenario, a teenage Jin Ling is (eventually, minus one little stab) ending the cycle of violence by not seeking vengeance for his father's murder. In the other, it was actually someone associated with Jin Ling's paternal family that killed his father, and he's maybe just... coming to terms with that? One of these scenarios is so much richer and more interesting.
How it affects the relationship between Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian is a little more subtle. It locates the responsibility for a lot of the harm done to the Jiang siblings with the Jin sect, not with Wei Wuxian, removing some of Wei Wuxian's culpability in the devolution of his relationship with Jiang Cheng. If Wei Wuxian isn't guilty of wronging the Jiang family (and instead is also a victim of the Jin sect), then all of Jiang Cheng's rage and betrayal was misdirected. They were both tricked. In some ways, maybe that's easier to patch up after canon? (I wonder if this is why many CQL yunmeng shuangjie reconciliation fics have Jiang Cheng apologize to Wei Wuxian, but not the other way around?) But it's so much less interesting to me!
Finally, it removes Wei Wuxian's tragic flaw! Dude is legitimately a genius but he's got hubris coming out of his ears and it fucks him up big time! This is classic stuff. Please stop flattening my boy!!

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed, Episode 33 part two
(Masterpost) (Pinboard)
Tumblr media
Warning! Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Side Note: As you know, I mostly except for sex scenes try not to compare CQL to its parent work, MDZS, because I think different works should get to be their own things. But I do love the book and all its many adaptations, and in case you want to dive into all of that, I’ve put together a roundup of everything I’m aware of (Novel, Donghua, Manhua, etc.) that’s available in English, and where to find them. That post is over here.
Tumblr media
Morning in Cloud Recesses
It’s morning, and by the time Wei Wuxian gets out of bed, Lan Wangji has already stretched, made breakfast, folded the laundry, and gone to play his guqin by the waterfall.
Wei Wuxian steps outside and takes a deep breath, happy to be staying in a place that doesn’t smell like lava or corpses.
Tumblr media
He wanders through the oddly empty cloud recesses, hallucinating about happier times. These are not normal flashbacks; he is in the frame, watching, while things happen in the past.
Tumblr media
Eh, that’s ok, he’s been through a lot. Hallucinations aren’t uncommon with PTSD.
At each memory, he smiles warmly, until the present day catches up and his mood crashes back down.
Tumblr media
This repeats until he reaches the library, where he remembers (in a normal desaturated flashback) showing porn to Lan Wangji and how mad he got. A bit of a smile stays with him after that.
Tumblr media
(more after the cut!)
Bunny Kisses
Then he finds the rabbits, two of whom cheer him up by smooching, like he wishes he and Lan Wangji would do.
Tumblr media
As a stand-in for a human kissing scene, this is cute, as long as we anthropomorphize them so that their sniffing of each others faces counts as kissing. It’s definitely better than watching those birds from The Long Ballad.
Tumblr media
(I adore The Long Ballad and have watched it three times so far, and that is three times more than I ever needed to see a bird’s tongue)
Return of the Bathing Beauty Trope
Then Wei Wuxian finds Lan Wangji in the cold spring. Let’s compare this encounter to the previous time they met each other here, so many years ago.
Then: Baby Wei Wuxian sees Lan Wangji and *sprints* down the stairs to be near him, even though they don’t really get along yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s completely delighted to see him, not at all deterred by the unfriendly reception.
Tumblr media
Now: Grown up Wei Wuxian reacts with with a fond smile, similar to the way he’s reacted to all the memories he’s been replaying.
Tumblr media
The smile fades, and he approaches with absolutely none of the exuberance of his youth.
Tumblr media
He just has...no joy. Not in living, not in being around Lan Wangji. But he’s sought him out as unerringly as he did in his youth, all the same.
Then: Baby Lan Wangji realizes Wei Wuxian is approaching, takes a millisecond to consider the situation, and immediately goes to put clothes on. He’s fully covered by the time Wei Wuxian reaches the shore.
Tumblr media
Now: Grown-up Lan Wangji sees Wei Wuxian, and just...sits there...while Wei Wuxian looks at him. He’s got his hair pulled over his shoulder so his back is on display, too.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji is never going to tell Wei Wuxian about his scars, but I think he wants him to see, to understand that Things Have Happened in his own life while Wei Wuxian was gone. Talking isn’t really his thing, so he’s showing him instead.
Tumblr media
(These unobtrusive scars, incidentally, are what happens when a character is extremely scarred but is being portrayed by a half-naked Wang Yibo. The producers aren’t going to give up a thirst opportunity for the sake of medical verisimilitude.)
I think he’s also deliberately letting Wei Wuxian see how beautiful he looks without his many layers of robes on. He sits still, being looked at, for 30 seconds of screen time, and then he turns around to show off his tiddies.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately that’s when Wei Wuxian notices the burn on his chest, which wasn’t what Lan Wangji was going for, so he--slowly--gets out and puts his clothes on.
Tumblr media
This burn scar is never discussed in the show, although the book explains it. I think if you haven’t read the book you can still guess that Lan Wangji did it to himself out of grief. This is a literal mark of Lan Wangji’s devotion--one he’s not ready for Wei Wuxian to understand just yet.
Continuing the comparison: in the past, it was Wei Wuxian trying to get close to Lan Wangji, as Lan Wangji resisted.
Tumblr media
In the present, Wei Wuxian doesn’t need to push; Lan Wangji comes to him. Lan Wangji has, in the course of 12 hours, invited Wei Wuxian so far into his life and has shown Wei Wuxian so much of himself that he might as well have embroidered "down to fuck" on the front of his robes.
Tumblr media
Before this, Wei Wuxian had never seen his house, not seen his hair without several chunks of silver in it, not heard him play guqin other than for medical purposes, and definitely hadn't been given a generous eyeful of his elegant torso and swanlike neck.
Seeing Lan Wangji’s various scars, Wei Wuxian starts to get out of his own head a bit, and begins to think about the person Lan Wangji has become in his absence.  He demands--not via his usual whining, but with quiet authority--to know what happened.
Tumblr media
This gets him absolutely nowhere, because Lan Wangji is the stubbornest person on Earth. He let Wei Wuxian look, and that’s all the communicating he plans to do on this subject.
Tumblr media
He knows perfectly well that he has an interfering older brother who will eventually explain everything for him.
Failmaster Qiren
The tension is broken by the arrival of some juniors, who say that Lan Qiren tried to communicate with the sword spirit, and it kicked his ass. This happens to him more often than it should.
There are a lot of funny moments in The Untamed, many of them deliberate, but some caused by the challenges of a big production with complicated continuity. For me, nothing will ever be funnier than the fact that, on his way to save his uncle from the homicidal sword spirit, Lan Wangji stopped to do his hair.
Tumblr media
Outside the sword room, Wei Wuxian demonstrates one of his core skills: busting through barriers in the Cloud Recesses.
Tumblr media
None of the juniors can get past this door that he’s easily blasting open, but they all still believe that this dude with Lan Wangji is second-rate cultivator Mo Xuanyu.
Flute Recital
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian start playing "Rest" to the sword, but then Wei Wuxian realizes that Lan Qiren is going to recognize him if he plays the flute well...while not wearing a mask...or something? This is one of those moments where it would make a lot more sense if Mo Xuanyu did not look like Wei Wuxian, but we would all be sad if either version of Wei Wuxian did not look like Xiao Zhan, so let’s roll with it.
Tumblr media
To hide his real abilities, and because he is a compulsive troll, Wei Wuxian launches into an extra-shitty rendition of WangXian, which is apparently bad enough to knock Lan Qiren out again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lan Wangji takes a moment to wonder why he had to be born a clownosexual, exclusively attracted to clowns. One clown in particular.
Tumblr media
Now the mystery-solving part of the story gets rolling. Wei Wuxian picks up the sword, which is smoking with resentment, to get a read on it.  It screams at him like the Xuanwu sword did, back in the good old days.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian shudders and gasps sexily, and then falls into Lan Wangji's waiting arms.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji suddenly feels totally fine about his clownosexuality.
Party in the Jingshi
Later, at the Jingshi, Wei Wuxian expertly twirls his flute just like that one Yiling Laozu guy was known for doing while Lan Wangji and several disciples tend to Lan Qiren.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji has put Lan Qiren in his own bed, the same bed Wei Wuxian was sleeping in 12 hours ago. I'd say Lan Wangji has the busiest bed in the Cloud Recesses, except that we all know that honor belongs to Lan Xichen.
The disciples gossip about the resentful energy, and one of them wonders aloud if the Yiling Laozu has taken over a new host body. That earns him a nearly lethal dose of stink-eye from Lan Wangji.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji finishes checking his uncle’s pulse and puts his hand down but does not tuck him in, because his uncle is not named Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
We get our first clue that Lan Wangji is actually Lan Sizhui's dad when he vaguely dismisses the whole group of disciples, but sends Lan Sizhui, specifically, to bed.
Tumblr media
Hot-grumpy-dad Lan Wangji is my favorite. We don’t see him in this mood a lot at this age, particularly not when he’s busy making googly eyes at Wei Wuxian. But his worry for Lan Qiren seems to have brought back a slice of his angsty, angry younger self. *sizzle noise*
Lan Sizhui tries to argue about bedtime and gets shut down, so he verbally acquiesces to what his dad told him to do. Then he fucks off and does what he wants to do instead. It’s nice to see that Lan Wangji has raised a normal teenager.
Tumblr media
Sizhui goes outside and chats with his other dad for a while. He doesn't know yet that this is his other dad, of course, just that his father has a new, cool boyfriend who can probably score much better weed than that crap Jingyi's always bragging about.
Wei Wuxian is a kind, serious authority figure in his conversations with Lan Sizhui; not silly or teasing as he is with Lan Jingyi.  He tells Sizhui him not to blame himself for what happened at the Mo manor, and compliments his learning and thought processes.
Tumblr media
I Trust You
In the morning, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji talk on the porch. Lan Qiren taking the only bed means they probably didn't have the fun night Lan Wangji had been hoping for. Also, while they are getting along well, Wei Wuxian isn't comfortable with him yet; he asks if Lan Wangji suspects him, when they talk about the haunted sword.
Lan Wangji takes the opportunity to tell him, emphatically, “Of course, I believe you.” This is the same “trust/believe” ( 信 ) that was hanging between them the previous evening, and Lan Wangji is taking steps to rectify the problem.
Tumblr media
Fortunately, Wei Wuxian is helplessly in love with Lan Wangji, and has a very forgiving nature, so they will get comfortable with each other very quickly. They work out that Xue Yang must have recreated the Yin tiger seal using his own piece of Yin Metal.
Guest Lecturer
Next, Lan Wangji gathers a roomful of disciples together to listen to Yiling Laozu’s lecture on the topic of resentful energy and this demonic sword. (Lan Qiren wakes up, feels a disturbance in the force, faints again).
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian also flirt in front of the whole class.  Features of this flirtation include Wei Wuxian doing this...thing with his flute and his mouth while he leans on Lan Wangji.
Tumblr media
This one time, at band camp...
Tumblr media
Theoretically, this move of Lan Wangji’s, where he steps away while Wei Wuxian is leaning on him, could be read as “doesn’t like to be touched.” Except grown-up Lan Wangji is happy to touch Wei Wuxian, and everyone’s faces say that this is Lan Wangji indulging in a moment of playfulness.
Tumblr media
Lan Jingyi is slightly horrified, but Lan Sizhui is practically ecstatic about this development. He and Wei Wuxian have a little nonverbal conversation in which Lan Sizhui gives him the opposite of a shovel talk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lan Sizhui is the president of the Let's Get Hanguang-Jun Laid club. Jingyi will join up soon.
On The Road Again
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian leave Gusu on a pair of horses that are never seen again; why does Wei Wuxian ride a donkey if they've got horses? *shrug.*
They go into Qinghe and walk through the market; Wei Wuxian lighthearted and interested in his surroundings in a way he hasn't been since he was young. Lan Wangji seems comfortable in the crowd; a contrast to his early travels.
Tumblr media
A vendor is selling Yiling Laozu merch. Wei Wuxian is offended by their ugliness, explaining that the Yiling Patriarch was one of the most beautiful men in the world, with many successful sponsorship deals.
Tumblr media
Just then Jin Ling shows up, because the cultivation world is like 3 city blocks wide and everyone lives on the same block. He attacks the vendor for daring to mention Wei Wuxian in public.
Tumblr media
This is my father’s font! I won’t put it down!
The stunt here involves the vendor getting yanked on a wire into a produce table, without knocking it over. One radish falls on the ground but the table doesn’t break into splinters and the air is not filled with flying veggies.
Tumblr media
If you are accustomed to American TV and movies, seeing someone hit a produce table or cart without destroying a massive quantity of produce is positively surreal.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian realizes that Jin Ling’s personality is an unfortunate combination of Jin Zixuan and Jiang Cheng. He decides that he should try to instill some of Jiang Yanli’s virtues in him. He puts his mask on and starts a conversation with Jin Ling.
Tumblr media
Enter Fairy, the fluffy adorable dog, who is an exemplar of Wei Wuxian's deep fear of dogs. Fairy is also is a catalyst for a sudden onset of broad comedic acting in our leading man. Wei Wuxian screams and runs away as Fairy slooowly chases him.

GQ excerpt of [Anonymous] interview with director Cheng Er about Wang Yibo preparing for his role in Anonymous:
After Wang Yibo joined the set of 無名 Wuming/Anonymous, he was asked to stay in a hotel room alone, no playing games, no looking at his phone, or leave the set to film ads, and he can’t contact his friends/family everyday.
After a week he was finally “released”, and the director spent a long time explaining to him about the history at the time, about the characters and the plot. “There wasn't a moment I felt relaxed, it felt pressurizing and oppressive all the time” Wang Yibo said.
Till this day, director Cheng Er still advises him to be alone occasionally. “Because his life is still full of noise, he has to learn to live a whole day quietly by himself.”

WILD;
Pairing: Wang yibo × reader
Genre: crack, fluff, kinda sensual
Waring: not drafted properly, cussing
Tumblr media
" what are you looking at?" You tilted your head meeting his eyes. A subtle smile had emerged in his lips and yet the fascination on his face seemed unfazed.
" At you" his deep voice echoed in your ears . His hands snaked around your waistline, his hot breathe on your cheeks. His wild gaze were solely on you. It was as if you were balancing on breaking branches, ...... The way was narrow and not anyone could enter but you had hammered his heart and made your way in; in a way that's no one else would.
Muse, his eyes constantly stared at you as if you were his muse" Oh" was the only words that came out afterall you felt confided. He had captured you, he had stoled your heart. His lips drew nearer.
" Fuck" he wispered to your ears. You drove him wild, your gestures, your eyes, you pout and those innocently sinister gaze; there was no reason yet just your being was enough for him to be lured.
"Pattttt" you flicked his forehead in the heat of the moment. You body had already been aching and yet he wanted to kiss you again?? Man, he demanded alot.
" Hehe" you squeaked and ran around the living area. A smirk emerged on yibo's lips as he starts to chase you around. His long legs were catching up to you until he twists his ankles and hits his lower half onto the sofa.
" Ouuchhhhh" he grabbed his croch. Oh lord, it must've been painful."Y/n!!! Your gonna make me die sonless" he yelled.....those little giggles of your made him more annoyed but what could you do? He brought it upon himself " atleats I've got my motorbike"

I'm already see someone make smut au about haobin...I'm scared...why they ship them😭...Haobin literally really good friends...it's remind me of Xiao Zhan And Wang Yibo situation (They are Chinese actor that act in bl drama) ...Ao3 get baned in china because many Chinese fans write smut/ship Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan...Now Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo barely interact Infront camera...It's sad honestly.
Hi anon, I’m really sorry you feel that way 😢
In my opinion, fanfiction characters do not reflect on the real person or idol they are inspired by. They can be written similarly but fanfiction will remain what it is which is fictional. As a part of their jobs, idols do try to sell a sort of fantasy to their fans and fanfiction has become a way for fans to participate in the fandom.
Haobin can be whatever they want, regardless of how much we see on screen, we do not know them at all, they are their own people with their own lives and we only see what they let us see. What they do in their personal lives, as long as they aren’t hurting anyone, does not concern us and it’s sad that some people think they’re entitled to that too.
I’ve also followed Chinese entertainment for awhile including Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan and since I don’t really want to be political on this blog, I’m just going to say that government censorship is an issue and leave it there.

Not really a question but a huge thank you. I have been reading your blog for quite a long time. I so appreciate your perspective on so many things. Because of you, I found out that hidden blade was going to be in Kansas. I actually live on the other side of the state line in Missouri that made the trip out today to watch it. I am so in off of Wang Yibo’s talent. he has the making of being a leading man in movies. 2 things were hard for me to watch. One was eating the little “live”critters, that was cringe worthy and the other was watching him get the stuffing beat out of him. He did an excellent job and the audience I was in applauded at the end. I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of the movie and thanks for continuing to answer questions from turtles and brightening my day so many times.
Hi Coyote!
I'm glad you enjoyed the movie, and I'm glad I was able to play any small part in that! 💛.
Hopefully more screenings will open up and more people will have an opportunity to see DD on the big screen!

it’s not a secret that i’m a ttxs bros fan and i love that show! it was my end of week treat and i knew that no matter how stressful the weekdays were, i have ttxs and wyb to watch and be my sunday reward. wyb had 3 performances for 2023 nye and we knew about the 2 and i was excited for it but that night, my fave would be his duet with dls of the song that never ends. aside from the dls/wyb/wh moment, i think that personally, it was the kind of performance i needed that time. nye stages are expected to be flashy but sometimes what we really need is a heartwarming song to remind us of the past year and the people that we love. it was really special <3
so i’m sharing this clip of dls/wh talking about that stage:
DLS: I remember that Wang Han said something casually before, so I wrote it in the song, but he said that there are some things that cannot be said or forgotten, and cannot be even thought about, because as soon as you touch it, you will feel it, and then the feeling will disappear. going back, I have written this song for more than two years. I originally wanted to make this song my own, and I thank Hunan for allowing us to be on this stage. Later, Wang Yibo and I sang this song live. I used to sing it and it felt so good. I sang and performed, and that night, maybe I felt that Wang Yibo didn’t know that we were going to sing this song because of Wang Han, and we both had the mentality that this song is coming, are you sure we should start singing it, because when we sang it, the feeling was... We will come back a lot. When we were together, we kept talking about whether we should watch Wang Han, because you know, we were afraid that we wouldn't be able to sing when we saw Wang Han, and we would start crying. Then later we found out that Wang Han was watching from below.
How can I say that I feel that sometimes there is a relationship or a piece of work that will always end. When it becomes a song, a paragraph, a poem, a painting, it will always be in our hearts. In this melody, Wang Han and I are slightly different in age. But I feel that my friendship with Wang Han is like a song that can never be finished.
WH: Thank you. In fact, the time gap is not particularly long because it was December 31st and today is only March. Da Zhangwei means a lot to me.Every time, I look forward to him coming, and then I'm so afraid of him coming. I really want to see him but i’m afraid cause i don't know what to say. The two words he says the most are, "Just be happy. Just be happy. You'll be happy." So what I especially want to say is that if he wants me to see him happy, I will see him happy. If one day he wants me to see him unhappy, I just need to use my eyes to see him and my ears to listen to him. Wang Yibo is cold and he is warm. They are my cold and warm life.
THEY ARE SO PRECIOUS 🥹🥹🥹🥹

Cosmo Weibo update 8.26.2022 with Wang Yibo for their September 2022 magazine cover. This is the 1080p version, will see if the 4K can get uploaded
“There is no optimal solution in life, so you might as well take bold risks when it comes to growing up. Every moment, over and over again, after every second of solidification, a long track is paved. The grasp of every minute and second makes Wang Yibo’s every step towards the finish line more firm and powerful. Speeding on the life track full of possibilities, making every race you pass by is extremely exciting, living up to your love, and giving time to hand over a satisfactory answer.”

Dear Xiao Zhan & Wang Yibo,
Hi. You don't know me because I am a slightly eccentric, white, retired lady with a spoiled Shih Tzu and dubious eyesight...but i digress.
As you two may recall, you both shot to fame in The Untamed (or CQL, as you probably know it better).
I watched your show in 2022, at which time I could not spell Beijing, let alone find it on a map.
Actually, it turns out - amusingly enough - i had the entire country of China in the wrong place in the map in my head (the same one where Reno NV is 5 miles from Las Vegas)!
I had China & Mongolia and Siberia/Russia completely flipped about. Who knew the Himalayas weren't near Shanghai! Not me!
Anyway,
Where was I? Oh, your live drama series. I'm a pushover for cute people in hanfu. And, see, I know translations are tricky to do well & can be awful (looking at you, Netflix).
So, i thought to myself, oh, it was somewhere in Episode 20 (around the time i wanted to punch Wei Ying in the face for being mean to Lan Zhan who had just spent 3 looooonng months in the wilderness with Jiang Cheng, aka "Grumpy Bro").
I thought: Self, if you could learn a bit of modern Chinese, you wouldn't be dependent on subtitles!
Yes! A brilliant idea!
And then i thought: Self, if you knew some Chinese history and some things about Chinese politics and culture, both ancient & modern, why if you did that, the drama (and Lan Zhan's speech patterns) would make more sense!
So, i hit the library. I googled. I watched history vids. I read articles.
And here we are, 2 years later, and I am still clueless why calling Lan Zhan "gege" (elder brother) is such a turn- on, but then, I don't get all the biting either. I just roll with it. Kind of like Wei Ying.
Fun fact: The Yangtze River is 6300 km long. It flows from a height of 5 km in the mountains all the way to Shanghai, where it dumps into the ocean in the same place it has for the last 11 million years. Except the Three Gorges Dam (built on ancient earthquake subsidence and fault lines) is stopping the silt from flowing into the area, so eventually poor Shanghai is going to sink beneath the rising tides of climate change. (Sure hope you guys don't own real estate there. Unless you want to swim in your livingroom).
Then there were oracle bones, the meaning of li, Confucious, chengyu, & the entire Han Dynasty, which gave me my favorite emperor, who is (given name) Liu Bang (劉邦). He was not a noble or even gentry. He schmoozed his way, more or less, into a job as a county deputy sheriff who was kind of lazy and drank a lot. A screw up (probably his) in a group prisoner transfer led to him becoming a war lord & then emperor of China. What's not to love!
So, thanks for it all, guys. I started out just wanting to fan girl you, and now I'm at least half-way into an associate degree in China, um, stuff. A bit eccentric of me, yes, but it keeps me off the streets and out of the pool halls, so i can't complain.

Legend of Fei Ep 35
We start with some exposition! Shen Tianshu was in the Anping army (have we heard this before and I’ve just forgotten it or is this brand-new information, hm) and helped Hu Tianying as she fled from Big Medicine Valley. You know, after she destroyed it all because her master said that she was only good at poisons instead of healing and therefore would not make a good new master. I guess it was love at first sight.
Hu Tianying wants to go herself and kill Zhou Fei while she’s searching for the grass. Then she wants to help Shen Tianshu looking for the HTYS. I guess that even though Tianying is gravely ill, she is still better of right now than Shen Tianshu? Okay then.
Luo Tiankuang gets a new task from Hu Tianying. (We don’t know what, though.)
Zhou Fei asks the monks about the HTYS because that stupid thing seems to haunt her and now she really wants to know what it’s all about. The monks are like, “Yeah, understandable. But we can’t tell you. Please go ask your father.” Thanks for nothing, I guess! You obviously know about this thing, so why send her away from the important errant of getting the grass by first seeking out her father?
A-Fei doesn’t want to go and see Xie Yun before she leaves because she’s afraid that she won’t be able to leave his side again. T_T
A-Fei visits her father Lord Gantang, whom we haven’t seen in forever I think, at an army camp. It’s also been a long time since these two saw each other, but the show doesn’t want to tell us exactly how long. XD
Tumblr media
He gifts her a new sword that he searched for a long time. He says that so many legendary blades have been lost or destroyed but he wanted to get her a really good one, and finally found this one. Optimistic of him considering Zhou Fei’s history of breaking swords. XD
Let’s check in with the one braincell trio! The boys are being their usual himbo selves. Ying Hecong is trying to get Yang Jin to drink some kind of poison so he can study its effects. Okay then. XD Li Yan has gotten a letter from A-Fei telling them that she is looking for Zhuming Grass. Ying Hecong is sad that Xie Yun still hasn’t died. That XY is truly hindering his scientific studies! XD
Sword exposition! Zhou Fei’s new blade was made by Lu Run who only made this one sword. He also had three disciples: one founded Big Medicine Valley, one the Qi School, and one went to the military.
Now we’re getting a flashback for Xie Yun because he hasn’t done anything but die for three episodes and the show wants to remind us why we love him! :D
We see Xie Yun’s first time out in the jianghu after living with the monks for such a long time. He doesn’t have a lot of money and runs out quickly, mainly because he gives some away freely to beggars on the street even though he himself is going hungry. But his good heart and helpful character lead to good things. When he gives advice to a storyteller about how he could make his stories better, he later gets a share of the man’s earnings because his advice brought in much more money. That’s also how Xie Yun gets the idea of making money with lyrics and poems, and Madame Nichang’s Feather Robe Troupe is mentioned. We of course know that they had a long-standing arrangement of Xie Yun providing the troupe with songs and poems to perform.
Tumblr media
Xie Yun eats with the beggars and leaves them a poem on the wall. The army shows up and he hides in the rafters from them as they seem to be looking for him. This works because no-one in this show looks up above their heads when searching for someone, ever. XD
End flashback and Xie Yun is finally awake! Wang Yibo plays weak and suffering very well! They also gave him very pale lipstick to show how seriously ill he is. His first action after waking up is that he wants to draw something for A-Fei. The love is real! <3
Meanwhile, A-Fei learns from her father that the HTYS contains important treasures (though her father doesn’t know which ones) and that Shen Tianshu was in the army.
Oh no, Chen Zichen shows up…
He’s the third prince but Zhou Fei completely and rudely ignores him. XD Her father didn’t expect him and internally is like, “WTF is going on”. He tells A-Fei to greet Zichen. She does so, but in the most lacklustre, perfunctory and bitchy way I’ve ever seen. XD Xichen reacts with a sincerely meant, “Oh no, no need to be courteous!” XD Like, kid, she’s super pissed at you because Xie Yun unlocked his powers to safe you (because you’re the stupidest kid to ever live) and is now dying.
Tumblr media
Zhou Fei leaves, ignoring Zichen. He smiles after her, sappily.
Oh.
Oh no.
OMG no!!! Stop talking!
OMG this is so embarrassing…
Xichen: “Well, I come because of a private matter regarding myself and Miss Fei.” Zhou Yitang draws the only logical conclusion because he knows his daughter and goes, “If she has offended you, I apologise…” but no, that’s not what Chen Zichen is on about. It’s much worse.
XD XD XD
Zichen: “I only think of her since I’ve met her and I want to marry her!” (basically, that’s the gist of it) Zhou Yitang: “For your own safety, don’t bother her.” Ohhh boy that sure is blunt. XD XD XD
This was the worst.
Thank god there’s a palate cleanser now because the show’s very own goddess Madame Nichang has another scene!
Tumblr media
Li Sheng has found her and hopes she can cure Chuchu. Madam Nichang first scares him a bit until he starts begging on his knees, then she’s like, “Ah silly boy, she wore some safety armour, she’ll be fine after a few days of sleep and medicine.”
Meanwhile, Li Yan and the boys are at the Cloud Raising Valley (Little Medicine Valley) where A-Fei should show up soon because it’s where to get the Zhuming grass. Turns out Yang Jin is the sect leader here and had just fucked off. XD
We learn this from a very passive-aggressive disciple. XD No outsider is allowed to see the route into the village, so Li Yan and Ying Hecong get blindfolded. Li Yan pouts over it.
Yang Jin argues with his elder about all of this and then says he’ll go to the dangerous back hills himself to look for the grass even though he will likely die there. Ying Hecong approves of this because he doesn’t want to die. XD
Tumblr media
Yang Jin says he doesn’t want to be sect leader anymore and someone else should do it. The elder is pissed. This is escalating quickly. XD Now the elder wants to punish Yang Jin and arrest (and kill I guess) Li Yan and Ying Hecong because Yang Jin shouldn’t have brought them along in the first place.
Li Yan and Ying Hecong can flee because everyone in that village is kinda incompetent. They wander around in the woods for a bit until they happen upon two guards whom they knock unconscious with one of Hecong’s poisons.

You should've gone to Sweden instead of Finland. Fat loser Kaarija lives in Finland, fit winner Queen Loreen lives in Sweden.
some of the most popular pieces of media in china are adaptions of danmei originally published to jjlc, a website forum for self-publishing novels. not all of the novels published there feature boyxboy or girlxgirl romance; some feature het couples and others feature no romance at all.
queer media has a long history in china, but its enjoyed a lot of success both domestically and internationally. netflix (on the usa servers) feature a laundry list of adapted danmei dramas, including 'the untamed' and 'word of honor'. these adaptions had done so well internationally, that the original novels were licensed and published for english speaking audiences. other language translations exist too, for example traditional chinese, korean, thai, and russian.
a fun fact about danmei fans on jjlc is that, a while back, the commentary forum on jjlc was co-oped by fans to discuss politics. of course, discussions about novels, characterizations, themes, etc were also discussed but politics were discussed enough that fans who engaged in these discussions were nicknamed 'little pinks'.
although i personally do not know the exact etymology of the term 'little pinks', i cannot help but make a connection between this term and the name for the youth group during the cultural revolution, the red guard. the chinese word for pink 粉红色 contains the word for red 红色. 'little' is a diminutive, often used in nicknames. these danmei fans are not as politically charged as the red guards were, so they're not as 'red' in color as the red guard but light red, or pink. of course, this is personal speculation and i have yet to find research to suggest this is factual.
either way, isn't it interesting that such a group originally formed on a site dedicated to the self-publication of novels? and particularly in the commentary sections of danmei novels.
if you want some good danmei tv-drama adaptions, my personal favorite is 'the untamed'. xiao zhan 肖战 and wang yibo 王一博 embody their characters and showcase their relationship so well, despite censors
