You’re really confused and then the door to your bedroom opens up again revealing a Daichi in a sexy cop uniform, wearing his police cap and twirling his work handcuffs around in his hand

thought i'd give the director's commentary to my oikawa fic Icarus!

Icarus (oikawa x f!reader) :

hrm is it v conceited to admit i wrote this fic because i didn't really love his eventual ending in the manga. i personally found it a bit sad that he chose too play in argentina instead of being accepted and recognised for his talents in his home country, and be able to play on equal ground with his former rivals - but i can see the thematic beauty in him being kageyama's / ushijima's eternal rival but anyway - that's why i wrote a fic where he still finds success, both in argentina and japan but not at the price of leaving japan for good.

imagery wise, of course the title is a dead give away, and i had so much fun playing with lines like "Icarus, Icarus. Your hubris has led you to such heights, but look how far you’ve fallen" - because oikawa truly is the ultimate icarus, isn't he. the boy with golden wax wings flying inexorably towards the sun. and the reader knows it and that's the basis for all her doubts, because a relationship with him will fail if he's unable to compromise his ambitions for her, and at the start, when they're so young, it does. but then when he meets her again later in life when his wings are broken (haha second chance trope, whoops), you can see him try to balance both love and volleyball and...idk i feel like that's probably the only way he might have a happy relationship.

and of course, because the reader in this fic is a medical student (and later, a doctor) and because oikawa suffers a life changing injury in the second act, i leaned a lot on visceral body part imagery (lol i don't have a more elegant phrase for it). so descriptions like "wring the liquid from your lungs, lay it on the floor to dry" and "fill the cavity of your chest with the remnants of your organs, secure them in place with stitches and staples" were used across the fic. i paired it with the personification of the reader's heart being a prisoner of her resolve not to fall in love again (especially with him) - "the heart that you’ve locked away behind bars of bone and steel twitches, just once" just to show how fearful she is of loving him again, how she's been burnt once before and has locked her heart up away from him. all this to lead to the theme of courage in love - because it takes a lot of bravery to love, knowing that there's always the possibility of being hurt. but at the same time, idk - i hoped my readers could also see that the reader's choice to be cautious could also be interpreted as an act of self sabotage.

anyways. a funny thing about this fic - i was terrified that the love scene i wrote was inappropriate, I RAN IT PAST SO MANY OF MY MOOTS WHOOPS. and it really was a joy to write tooru because like atsumu, his personality lends himself really well to snappy dialogue, especially in the izakaya / karaoke scene when he's trying to stop the reader from flirting with atsumu whilst flirting with her himself LOL. sighs - oh toorus is just a bundle of joy to write HAHA.

「Headcanons of Kageyama and Tsukishima having a crush on an apathetic classmate.」

KAGEYAMA TOBIO 

♤ Kageyama doesn’t really interact with his classmates that much. His only friends and acquaintances were those from the Volleyball Club so most of the time he was alone in the class. You were the Class President who sat next to him, you don’t talk that much and never got excited nor mad over anything. The male always overheard your conversations with your friends but you never seem to really talk that much, only interrupting when necessary or when they asked you something. Overall, you don’t express your emotions that much.

♤ Takes a while for him to get to know you because he’s not the type to befriend anyone willingly. Since you were the Class President, you were in charge of a few things and it required you to interact with your classmates often. It was when he failed a test and the teacher was worried that Kageyama is struggling with studying. Your teacher assigned you to tutor the male once every two days, in hopes of him learning more from you. Not only because you’re the Class President, but you seem to have above-average grades.

♤ Kageyama is awkward with you on your very first study session despite having sitting next to you in class for a few months. But it's understandable since he doesn’t interact with a lot of people is probably socially awkward. He was super nervous to be sitting in front of you while you helped him with English. You were so quiet and barely showed any emotions, he couldn’t help but think that you reminded him of Tsukishima. The mere thought of that jerk of a middle blocker pissed him off, so he got rid of that thought instantly.

♤ Forever grateful to you taught him to pass his tests. He was reminded by his seniors, Coach Ukai and Takeda-sensei about how important they were since he won’t be able to attend any practice matches if he fails his tests and is forced to attend make up classes and do make up tests. Kageyama seeks for your help after that particular tutoring session. You were kind enough to always spare some time for him and teach him the parts that he didn’t understand. Not to mention, you were super patient. He scolds himself for comparing you with Tsukishima for a second.

♤ This boy realizes he has a crush because someone pointed out to him. With mid terms just around the corner and training camp over the summer break, Kageyama knows that he can’t afford to fail this. Hinata had pleaded him to share his secret behind his success and passing grades. Kageyama reluctantly introduced you to the hyperactive tangerine who got cozy with you pretty fast. It bothered him that your attention was on Hinata most of the time. He needed your attention too! It didn’t take long for Kageyama to realize that he didn’t like the thought of you paying attention to someone else other than him. 

♤ Hinata got all pouty, saying how Kageyama was being a mean, stingy jerk. A random student in the class commented on how Kageyama was jealous and possessive over you since you usually tutored him and only him. It didn’t take long for him to get embarrassed and grow silent in hopes you didn’t catch onto whatever that random student has said. Luckily, Hinata was too dense and innocent to understand. The last thing he wanted was for Hinata to babble on to the people in the Volleyball Club.

♤ His crush on you was pretty obvious to everyone except yourself. You knew that Kageyama was pretty awkward with girls so you never thought much of it whenever he would stutter and stumble over his words whenever he talks to you. Kageyama has no idea how to convey his feelings because his brain stops functioning. He manages to invite you to lunch a few times and it became a thing for you to eat lunch together. The guy tries his best to not get flustered around you, and makes up his mind to confess to you.

TSUKISHIMA KEI

☆ Never really paid attention to his classmates at all. Tsukishima probably notices you from time to time, someone that he would run into a few times outside of school. Then again, whenever he saw you, he wouldn't actually come up to you and say hello or anything. It's just not his character to be friendly with someone and strike a conversation first okay? Let alone with someone he barely interacts with. He sees you as the quiet and somewhat emotionless girl of the class because he has never heard you speak before.

☆ The first time he does talk and interact with you willingly has to be when he was paired up with you to do something. It was during the school’s festival where your homeroom teacher decided that you two should socialize even more and made you both the committee members. Of course, Tsukishima seemed annoyed that he was given such an annoying task. In addition, he has no idea how he should talk to you. He has never started a conversation with a girl before and wasn’t sure where to start.

☆ Much to his surprise, you were quite a cooperative person. Your voice was monotonous yet gentle and your sentences were also brief and straight to the point. He was somewhat thankful that you weren’t the super cheery type that’s really hyped up over the school’s festival like himself. You were also able to handle your other classmates who has multiple ideas of what they wanted to make. Tsukishima is fairly impressed with your ability to calmly assess the situation and come up with a solution so fast.

☆ Despite appearing emotionless, you were such an understanding person. During committee meetings that ran longer than expected, you would interrupt the heated passive-aggressive argument and remind them that some people had places to be. Tsukishima immediately remembered the time and noticed that it was almost 6 in the evening. The blonde finds himself thanking you for that and you know this boy rarely thanks people. You would make up an excuse about how they’re wasting precious time when others could be doing something else.

☆ After the school festival ended, he was comfortable enough to greet you when he runs into you in the corridors or outside of school. And out of everyone in his class, he could only tolerate Yamaguchi and you. Yamaguchi easily became friends with you despite his somewhat shy nature. Tsukishima never really invites you to anything because Yamaguchi does it for him. And he’s kind of grateful for that because he can’t really imagine himself inviting you to do stuff together. 

☆ Tsukishima is super subtle with how he shows his feelings. But a lot of people can tell that he has a crush on you because he’s super obvious about it. Everyone can see that he’s noticeably nicer to you compared to most people. It's no surprise that everyone in the team can tell he's got a crush on you. You weren’t a talkative person by nature but whenever you talk, Tsukishima is focused and doesn’t let anything distract him. Never ever wears his headphones around you because he loves hearing your voice.

☆ Probably denies having a crush on you, multiple times. He tries to see it in a different manner. He just prefers you over others because you’re not like the other girls who are complicated, you’re blunt and brutally honest. Though he can’t really tell what you’re thinking at times, he never seemed to be bothered by it. In fact, he thinks that’s your charm, always appearing calm and collected but you have these cute and interesting sides to you that occasionally show up at random times. He doesn’t have any plans on confessing honestly. It will take something big to happen for him to do so.
