So, I know I’m late on the “Forspoken lol bad dialogue” memes, but after watching a few clips from the game, I’m strangely…underwhelmed? For me, I feel like the memes overhyped the poor quality of the dialogue. It just sounds like a PG-version of “Devil May Cry”. Like, the scene where the main character pulls on the doorknob and the knob comes off, I can totally imagine Dante or Nero in that moment and making a stupid quip about their bad luck.

In fact, would this game have succeeded if it was just a blatant “Devil May Cry” clone? Just a thought.

Forspoken is insufferable.

No, I’m not talking about the game’s incessant dialogue, incessant though it may be.

Luminous' contentious venture fostered a massive (if brief) amount of discourse regarding its divisively quip-stuffed script, but whether or not the sarcastic squabbling of its protagonists is "cringe" doesn’t really matter considering how tiresome the rest of Forspoken is. No matter how grating Frey and Cuff’s banter might be, the banter isn't what did me in - its relentless, unapologetic “open worldedness” did.

Publisher Square Enix and developer Luminous Productions have released the gameplay reveal trailer for Forspoken downloadable content “In Tanta We Trust,” which is due out on May 26.

Here is an overview of the downloadable content, via Square Enix:

After bringing peace to Athia, Frey’s journey continues as she searches for a way to permanently rid the land from the effects of the Break. Amid her search, she follows a mysterious voice that leads her into the past.

When she emerges, Frey finds herself surrounded by chaos and destruction. Injured and draped in blood-soaked clothing, she discovers a grim truth about her fate. The recently thriving Athia is at war, but why and with whom? Accompanied by Tanta Cinta, and a new set of magic, Frey must uncover the answers and save Athia once more—and attempt to save herself.

Forspoken is available now for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.

I feel like Forspoken and Luminous Productions was Square Enix's attempt at a completely ai written/generated game and devision and it completely flopped.

Like I'm not saying that's what it is, but what I am saying is if Square Enix came out later saying that was an attempt at full ai than I wouldn't be surprised.

Sometimes a game isn’t very good. Sometimes even when that’s the case there’s some fun to be had with it. I frequently think about when I went back to the Playstation 2 role-playing game Mega Man X Command Mission a couple of years ago. It had some good aesthetics (they gave the main character X a really cool cape), but as an RPG it was rather pedestrian and use of stick-twirling in that game…

The Forspoken “In Tanta We Trust” story downloadable content will serve as a prequel to the main game and takes place 25 years prior the events of Forspoken. Continuing her search for a way to eradicate the Break from Athia once and for all, Frey finds herself following a mysterious voice that leads her to a place that somehow transports her to the Purge of the Rheddig, the legendary battle that devastated Athia and eventually drove the Tantas to madness. Accompanied by Tanta Cinta and a new set of magical abilities, Frey must uncover the answers and save Athia once more—and attempt to save herself.

In the Forspoken “In Tanta We Trust” downloadable content, players will battle alongside Tanta Cinta using Frey’s newfound magical ability to unlock new combat strategies and coordinate devastating attack combos against the invading Rheddig forces. Scale to new heights in unique, vertically-designed environments with Frey’s honed magic-enhanced parkour skills.
