I really loved how every umbrella academy children’s mothers showed a personality similar to their own kids . Diego mom being housewife cooking baking in yellow kitchen , klaus’s mom having a religious connection(spiritual), allison’s mom shown as energetic friendly school teacher , ben’s mom being innocent schoolgirl who is probably studious calm, viktor’s mom being a innocent shy but playful. so five’s mom in show is a butcher from ireland. luthers mom is career women from sweden. casting directors had chosen very wisely on actors and mother actors pairings but at the same time i am thinking what would it had been like if five and luther were twins and how would their mom be like?would they be irish german american or sweden?If you could had imagined their mom, how would that work out? Like green eyes with sandy blonde hair?

I imagine their shared mom would be a no nonsense, English woman, tall and big woman, probably a homemaker from the country.

And idk why but how Ben and Viktors moms were young, I see a shared mom for Five and Luther to be older, like her and her husband thought they were done having kids or were happy with out kids but two came along.

i need to find a title for it because i'd like to make it into a series or at least have its own tag (so i can edit and shitpost the hell out of it xx) but alright so. i have this soulmates au i've been harboring since march that has its own little world-building and features bonds of all kinds and every day it gives me the feels. like not every pair of siblings has a soul mark (there's seven as of season 3). those who do wreck my heart, and those who don't still manage to do so too.

anyway here's a small bit from viktor's book's abstract if anyone is interested. it's a wip so please don't judge :)

Dad had very strong opinions on Twin Flames and Soulmates, and he always made sure to remind my siblings that no matter what, the most important connection they would ever had was each other. Not because they were brothers and sister, but rather because they were a team; they were part of the Academy. This particular jab was no doubt directed towards Allison and Klaus in particular, since they were the only ones who were born with a Twin Flame, but it also served for the others, given the presence of Soulmates among us.

Netflix's Umbrella Academy is going downhill fast. I was curious because I saw there was a new season and just by skimming episode sypnosises, I am NOT interested.

I think the point where it officially died for me was Netflix stating that unlike the comics, Luther and Five are NOT twins in the show.

if we disregard their appearances and comic lore, sparrow and umbrella five could’ve been twins; space-time and gravity are often discussed as correlated in science, sloane is an irish name and five is irish in the show, and, most importantly, they’re both huge nerds

my rewrite for season 4 of the umbrella academy

spoilers ahead

okay so how about instead of them all DYING! viktor is able to pull the marigold out of the remaining siblings (ben is too far gone as we’ve already seen 😞) and he says he’ll sacrifice himself especially since he caused the apocalypse in 2 timelines. klaus, luther, and lila are all against it but diego and alison are trying to protect their kids and 5 saw the 5 diner so knows something has to be done. however as viktor’s powers changed from white/blue to orange he is able to expel his own marigold (which implies that an increased use of his power earlier in the season would’ve made him lose his power)

a ball of glowing marigold floats in the middle of the circle as the cleanse floods in. it trickles up toward the ball barely acknowledging the siblings. it reaches the marigold and slowly begins to consume it until a bright light bursts through the cleanse’s skin.

the screen goes white

we cut to a tv interview of an unknown yet familiar face who is eventually revealed to be dolores hargreeves. the camera pans out to see dave sat in an armchair with a small child running around in the background. klaus ushers the child upstairs and tells them to brush their teeth.

then we go to the local elementary school where we see lila and diego dropping the twins and grace off at school. they’re met by dave and klaus and their child. the three younger kids run into their class where they’re being taught by the handler. we follow grace to see her being taught by herb.

we cut to viktor who is opening up a cafe (not a bar) and a woman walks out of the kitchen with a plate of cupcakes. it’s sloane. luther walks out of the bathroom with a disgusted look on his face before giving sloane a kiss on the forehead. the camera exits the coffee shop to see the name and it’s called ben’s.

we cut to five and claire in a car. they get out at a film studio. once inside they see allison who is in charge of the set. she asks to cut as claire hugs her mom and five kisses his wife delores.

towards the end of the day, the family is sat at a teppanyaki restaurant. lila whispers to klaus and dave that her uncle is watching the kids.

the family is sitting and eating happily until all of a sudden ‘i think we’re alone now’ starts playing. the siblings look at each other , go to the centre of the room and start dancing just like they did in s1 ep1 but this time they’re not alone, they’re together as a normal family. finally.

Jealous Five thoughts just because, well, I feel like Five wouldn't be into public displays of affection under normal circumstances. He's perfectly content to walk side by side with you at a farmers market, nothing but your shoulders occasionally brushing. Or resting against the trunk of a tree, half eaten picnic forgotten while reading your respective books, only point of contact your knees knocking every time one of you shifts. Or while cramped in a restaurant booth, surrounded by the Hargreeves family, sides pressed flush together as Klaus crowds into Five's other side to discuss the appetisers. Sure, when you reach for his hand or lean in to kiss him before running off somewhere it makes him happy, but it isn't really necessary. Five is always right there, never straying, comfortable watching you from a short distance. But at the end of the day, he's just a man. So when you two show up to the twins birthday party and a group of dads are whispering none too quietly about making you a mother? Five moodily crosses the chaotic room to wrap you up from behind, scowl firmly in place for the rest of the event. And Luther is so sweet! But perhaps too sweet to you on a day where Five is already annoyed, so naturally he snaps. Number one won't take it seriously because he's literally so sweet, will shrug off the aggressive threat his brother made and excuse himself with a smile, and you'll be left to scold your man for his misplaced anger. It's all a big f you from the universe because up until you came along, Five thought himself above emotions like jealousy, he's never had reason to feel envy or fear of losing someone because he's not enough. Now its instinct to compare himself to all the other men who fawn over you, even though you pay them no mind, and tries tirelessly to hide his newfound insecurities.

I grab the door frame of the gleaming white and ornate dance hall of the Hotel Oblivion. Luther's wedding was my first and also my last wedding. Sad, but in the end I didn't care. Because my rational thinking was being suppressed by a few martinis. I hadn't actually intended to get drunk, but I was somehow pulled along by the others. Klaus topped me up several times without me even noticing. We all danced together and Klaus sang karaoke with me, which in hindsight was perhaps not such a good idea after all. But we were all able to forget for an evening that the world was falling apart around us.

It felt like the hallway was trying to swallow me up. I frantically searched for my door number 187. The hotel was so damn confusing, each floor was like identical twins. It's impossible not to get lost here and with five martini's and a couple of Aperol Spritz's this really was an impossible mission for me to complete. When the elevator stopped with a loud ping on the fifth floor, I gave up and stumbled into the hallway. I got caught on the carpet of flowers that stretched across the corridor, but caught myself before my face could land on the floor. Suddenly I heard the sound of glass hitting the floor and I held still. "Hello?" I whispered, which was pretty stupid, but I didn't really care in my drunken state. I walked slowly down the hallway, in the direction of the noise. Every little creak of the wooden floor beneath me felt like the loudest thunderclap in heaven. My heart began to beat normally again, no longer thundering against my ribcage like it was trying to jump out as I peered around the corner.

It was Five who had made the noise with a bottle in front of him. He was in some kind of half-sleep or full sleep? I didn't quite know myself and I don't think he did either. His body was lying limply against the wall, it looked as if he had slipped into the corner and not come back up. His tie hung askew at his neck and his shirt was loose on his body. The blazer he was still wearing at the wedding was probably in another hallway. It looked peaceful, I didn't know him like this, his forehead wasn't decorated with the usual sour crease and his usually talkative mouth hung slightly open. "Five?" his slightly closed eyes popped open as if he had seen something dangerous.

He looked as if he wanted to say something but the words stuck in his throat. "Have you swallowed your words?" I asked with somewhat drawn-out words. He tried to straighten up a little and pushed himself off the floor. "Seems like you caught one too many meddles too huh?", I ask as I sit down next to him. "Maybe," he mumbles to himself. His hair, usually so tightly done, was now a mess and lacked shine. "Your shoelace is untied," I remark. He turns his head towards me and looks deep into my eyes. "Who cares about that anymore? The world is coming to an end and we're all going to die," he grumbled to himself. I smiled at him and nudged him on the shoulder.

"You're not such a positive drinker huh?", I ask him playfully. Five puts his head back on his neck. "I usually am, but what else is positive? I'm going to die, alone, a virgin," he mutters. I look at him in surprise. I wasn't prepared for his honesty. "We… we're going to die alone and as virgins," I say to defuse the situation. He lets his head, which has fallen to the floor, shoot up at once. "You? You virgin?" he asks me. I don't know whether he means that positively or negatively. But his eyes radiate disbelief. "What's that supposed to mean?" I ask him, playfully holding my hand to my chest. I elicit a smile from five. I haven't seen that for a long time.

"It's just relatively incredulous, you have everything a man could want," he says. The mood changes abruptly, everything feels so oppressive. I let him swallow the silence. "Your eyes are so beautiful, I could lose myself in them for hours. Falling asleep next to you every night and falling asleep to the sight of you is the most beautiful thing I can imagine.But unfortunately, that's impossible now…' he talks to himself, while I fall into a state of shock. "Your lips look so seductive, every second that I look at them but am not allowed to touch them, I lose a piece of myself," he whispers into the silence. I am speechless, for the first time in all these years his words have silenced me.

"Five, why are you saying that now?" I ask as I try to hold back my tears. Five looked at me again, I realized it was hard for him. His words were so penetrating that not even the alcohol could hold them back. "The world is coming to an end, we're all going to die, the first time I saw you I had to stop myself from telling you how I felt. I could now fill books with all the sentences you've evoked in me," he says. I swallow. His perfume reaches my nose. A mixture of alcohol and woody smoke. He pulls himself up and puts his hand on my cheek. I flinched from the sudden movement.

But my hot skin quickly got used to his cold fingers. He looks at me through his slightly closed eyes. "You asshole," I say as a tear runs down my cheek. Five's eyes widen, searching my face for an answer to the question I haven't yet asked. "W…what?" he asks fearfully. His eyes reflect his uncertainty, darting around my face. "You tell me something like that the day before the world ends?" I ask, still in disbelief. Five's thumb brushes along my cheek, an insufficient attempt to wipe away my tears.

Also forgot to write it but Nathan’s dads first name isn’t Natan, it’s his middle name but he discards it when he gets into mob business

HC: Mary doesn’t get along with her older brothers other than Stuart. She’s years younger than them so they forget about her often but also spoil her whenever they have to since she’s the only girl.

David is the heir to the Hatford Crime syndicate but his son dies young and he and his wife spend years grieving before trying again. They arent so lucky. The other boys are pressured to try too but Jacob is shooting blanks and Thomas isn’t keen on even acknowledging his betrothed

When Mary had Nathaniel, her older brothers shunned her for good since she named him Abram. In their eyes, that name belonged to the heir and David had to name his son Isaac instead (Isaac was about a year or two younger than Neil)

Alistair Hatford created the honor and pride of the Hatford name so David wanted to give Abram to his own son in hopes of bringing good luck to their future. To him, Mary had practically killed his son for taking the name for herself

Amrita was Alistair’s fourth wife and being that he killed his last, she made him fall so head over heels for her he’d never so much as lay a hand on her. Amrita knew saying no to a crime boss like him would be suicide so she gave in and manipulated her position to ensure her survival.

Fun fact, Neil (ignoring his fathers color palette) is Amrita’s carbon male copy👀

Each of the contacts Stuart gave them was just the wives/husband families syndicates of their brothers and aunt (Alissa is Turkish, Rochelle is from a smaller French syndicate, Carli is a niece from a Mexican cartel, Maks is Russian, Margarita is Romanian)

Thomas and Charlie are fraternal twins but Thomas and Jacob are the trouble makers of the family

Elizas children cannot inherit the Hatford responsibility because they’re heirs to the Popovs and upon marriage, served her ties to the Hatfords as per agreement

Stuart is acting as head of the family as of current since David has been a mess since Isaac’s death and the other brothers don’t care for challenging him for the position. He would’ve liked Nathaniel to take over but he wouldn’t push him into it after Mary’s death

Katelyn’s mom is someone I write differently depending on the au. She’s either divorced/separated from Bruce or she’s dead. Katelyn’s mom is polish but her father is Scottish

Maria has three older siblings and one younger. I hc that even tho she willingly went with Luther, she sort of misses her father and so named her son after him

Tilda used to be known as Tillie by her family, a nickname she loathed

When Tilda got pregnant, Luther demanded she get married or she’d have to get an abortion. However, marriage was too soon and twins were too much so Mr Minyard left

Maude and Evelyn were fraternal twins but weren’t close

Angelica is a good handful of years older than Katelyn but they’re close enough that Katelyn babysits Marcin often

Because I like hiding little tidbits for myself, the Hemmicks have a habit of having two kids max and giving them names with five letters then six. (Ex, Maude, Aaron, Tilda, Nicky are 5, Evelyn, Andrew, and Luther are 6)

Toxic use of religion and neglect pushed Tilda into the life she led but Luther wouldn’t quit on his sister

How I would have written Claire

This is pointless but here’s what I would have done for each member of the umbrella academy during season 4:

1. Luther would still be a dancer in this for me but he wouldn’t live at the academy. He’d live with an elderly old man that he helps to take care of in exchange for a room. I want Luther obsessing over a father figure in every season. Sue me. His room would be full of abandoned hobbies (think knitting needles, a guitar with a broken string, a bookshelf filled with *blank* for dummies books). He’d have spent the last few years trying to discover who he is. Besides all of his hobbies he’d have a whole section of his wall dedicated to finding Sloane. If we couldn’t get the actress maybe we have a quick photo of her married to someone else or have that be discovered in the plot. I don’t necessarily think Luther has to have a happy ending with Sloane but he could have it in terms of getting over his daddy issues and discovering who he is as a person. He puts a lot of effort into his family (especially sparrow Ben) through out the season but he able to become a figure outside of his family this season.

2. Diego’s whole deal before this point is vengeance and vigilantism. The life of a UPS worker is so far removed from this but I’d keep it. I’d really want to highlight that this is something Diego does because he thinks this is what he has to do to be a family man. I’d also spend a lot more time this season on his family. Like him cooking breakfast or something while Lila (who I’ll come back to) is dealing with the twins while looking ready to pull her hair out. Lila’s parents would also have a lot more to do to. Maybe they nitpick Diego or maybe Diego isn’t sure how to behave around his new family that actually seems to be healthy. I’d also keep his lil dad gut but I wouldn’t make it a point of humor. It’d just be a thing to highlight the image of the dad he is. His storyline this season would deal with him wanting to be something (a father, a husband) while not really knowing how to do this and still having dreams of his previous life of excitement and action. Also would show drama with Lila and him navigating their new lives and maybe not in the healthiest way at first.

3. Allison would still be attempting to be an actress. But she would be hyper vigilant of Claire. She fought so hard and betrayed her whole family to get back to her. She might even be overbearing. Her emotional arc this season would have a lot to do with learning to allow Claire to become her own person. I also would have included Ray because he would NEVER just walk out but if we can’t get the actor I think maybe I would have killed him off (I’m sorry). Maybe the realization that her new timeline is not perfect helps to enforce the idea into her that Claire is not invulnerable. We’d also spend a lot more time talking about this. Ray would have a picture on her bedside table and maybe her and Luther could have some closure by talking about their loved ones. She would also have to work a lot harder to gain acceptance from her family.

4. Klaus’s would NOT get his powers back so early in the season. We would also not have any of his plot from the real season beyond the fact that he is now a hypochondriac. I really liked that detail. I liked Uncle Klaus loving Claire to death and them both learning to enter the big scary world would be a staple in his season 4 arc. Klaus would definitely talk about Dave more too. He’s so afraid of losing others because of his loss of Dave but he still has these worries about his own death. This could be his big moment this season. Him having to accept his powers, despite his sobriety and fear, in order to save his family in some way. The choice should be his. It would be his ultimate sacrifice and it would finish off his arc in a more satisfying way that doesn’t leave him as someone incapable of saving himself or others. We could also get his ghost army and levitation. As a treat.

5. I would have kept Five as a teenager. He’d be 17 at most and having to live with one of the other siblings (I’m leaning towards Luther). He’s ‘homeschooled’ at this point and spends his time trying to find inaccuracies in the timeline that could suggest another end of days. He’s obsessed with the apocalypse and a safe world can never feel safe for him. Lila still does not like or trust Five because of what he did to her parents in the OG timeline. But because he and Lila are still searching for danger (for different reasons) they end up attending the Keeper meetings together. The whole subway things happens but NOT the romance or the choosing to stay. Instead they both go through the timelines trying to solve the end of the world and we spend like 2 whole episodes on this. They see the apocalypse again. Five gets soft over Delores. Lila sees what Five went through to get back to his family. To save Diego. They eventually learn to see each other as family. And they’re only gone for a year before they both find the Five Deli. They’re dirty, injured, and have just spent the last year trying to get back and save they’re family. They do NOT accept the other five telling them to just die and give up. Maybe Five contemplates but now that Lila and Five are bonded and besties (please I just want friendship from them) she is able to convince to try ‘one more time old timer’. They get an exit found by another five and find a way to save the world (need more thought on how). Also after the world ends and Five no longer has a purpose like before, he finds a new one in his family and this adorable ( absolutely ugly) little dog that was eating trash in an alley.

6. Ben would still have been a crypto scammer because I love that. It’s sparrow Ben so there is still a huge disconnect from him and the rest of the family. I don’t think he gets a romance with Jennifer but he meets her. And it’s learned that Jennifer is not of this timeline but was in a squid that came from another one. I’m thinking the squid is what lives inside Ben and it’s escape is what killed him ( not the dumb as hell thing that really happened). The squid eats Jennifer as she is a hostage in whatever situation (mission by the beach idk) but she is one of the other 43 kids. She has powers similar to Viktor in the way that they are world destroying. The fact that she from another timeline is what gives her extra interest to Jean and Gene. Ben begins to gets realize he’s not exactly a great person compared to Umbrella Ben but begins to bond with them over the course of the season. Also the jar isn’t given to the umbrella academy by David Cross (already forgot his characters name) but instead found by Jean and Gene in the opening scene. They intend to give it to Jennifer once they get to her but instead are intercepted by five and Lila. Maybe they give it to Jennifer at a meeting as a ritual and Five steals it and takes it to the family. Now Jean and Gene are after them and they know Jennifer is gonna end the world. Plot with lots of moments for cool fight scenes and music numbers.

7. Viktor could be living Canada still. He still feels so isolated from the family that he struggles to be around them. I like the joke of him being someone incapable of maintaining a relationship but we know he could do it with Sissy so I would instead have him have a rocky relationship with a girl who maybe also isn’t in the healthiest spot. Since Viktor doesn’t get kidnapped in this version, his trouble involves introducing the new girl to his family and not knowing how to navigate these two worlds that have always been separate in his life. He gets to play violin still too because that was such a big thing in the comics and the violin is something that he learns to harness his powers with once they get their powers back. For what seems like the first time, Viktor isn’t ending the world but saving it. And he is fighting with his family as a powerful unit. Think early scene in s2 where they all realize their full potential.

8. Lila is struggling with her new life. She has a family, her parents, and a calm life. It was supposed to be a life only meant for her dreams but she finds it dull. Diego is showing off a facade of being happy in this life so she doesn’t want to talk about how it’s affecting her. She forms a tentative truce with five when she gets a dose of excitement by involving herself with the keepers. When she realizes she is once again in an apocalypse situation she has conflicting feelings about what this means for her and her family. She wholeheartedly joins five on the subway adventure not realizing how long it would be before she could see her family again. She bonds with Five and they both commiserate about loving their family so much but not knowing if they will ever have the ability to be happy. Her arc revolves around finding equilibrium between her two worlds and saving the world with Five. Someone she now sees as family and who she knows would do anything to save her because she’s family. She and Diego would talk and learn they both have issues with their new lives but they are dedicated to helping each other find what the other needs to at least be content. She also doesn’t ever cheat on Diego and the little Greek guy comment makes her laugh so hard she almost pees.

Reasons why TUA S4 is not canon to me

You're telling me that Lila held on to her resentment for so long in her marriage without saying a word?? She would have told Diego a long long time ago about the behaviour that was bothering her.

She does make fun of him sure, but never in front of people and she definitely doesn't allow other people to make fun of him ( remember when she called Ben a shitty little squid because he was mean to her boyfriend) so honestly what was up with all those fat jokes???

I've seen other people mention this too but like despite having three children, it really seemed like they only cared about Grace, I never even knew they had twins till it was actually mentioned on screen.

The five and Lila thing was just so weird??? Like I get the whole only people on the planet thing but honestly there was zero romantic chemistry between them ever and now suddenly because they're alone, they're hooking up?? Not to mention, later five acts like he's in love with her??? Like what was that??? He was literally acting like a lovestruck teenager which he never did even when he was stuck in an actual teenage hormonal body.

Again this has been mentioned before by other fans but like five's deal has always been about protecting his family and now he's just chill with leaving them behind and starting a life with Lila?? He's always butted heads with Diego but there was never a doubt that he genuinely cared about him like he cared about all his siblings and now he's ready to fight him over a girl??? You're telling me that makes sense?

Not to mention neither of them looked particularly remorseful about what they had done. Even towards the end, none of this actually got resolved, the insane love triangle still existed, at some point it felt like Lila was never in love with her husband at all, Diego never actually said goodbye to his kids, Claire and Allison were the only ones who got some kind of closure, Klaus was on bizzare side quests the entire time, the whole plot of luther and Diego finding out the CIA boss was involved also kind of didn't really matter in the end?? Like it was some half ass attempt to make them relevant to the plot, even him deciding that he would rather spend time with his kids didn't matter because he lost them like idk three hours later? Don't even get me started on the numerous glaring plot holes in that ending because I wouldn't even know where to begin.

TUA S4 was truly character assassination at it's finest.
