A Nile cruise is an enchanting way to explore the treasures of ancient Egypt, blending the luxury of modern travel with the timeless beauty of the Nile River. Packing wisely is essential to ensure a comfortable and memorable experience. Here’s a comprehensive guide to what you should bring along.
1. Clothing Essentials
The climate in Egypt can vary depending on the season, so it’s important to dress appropriately. Keep in mind that the dress code is generally casual, but you might need specific outfits for temples, evenings, or excursions.
Lightweight, breathable fabrics: Pack clothes made from natural fibers like cotton or linen to stay cool during daytime excursions.
Layered clothing: Mornings and evenings can be chilly, especially in winter (November to February). Include a light jacket, scarf, or cardigan.
Modest attire for excursions: While Egypt is relatively tourist-friendly, it’s respectful to wear modest clothing when visiting temples or local villages. Long pants, skirts, and tops covering the shoulders are advisable.
Comfortable shoes: You’ll be walking a lot during excursions to temples and historical sites, often on uneven terrain. Sturdy walking shoes or sandals with good grip are a must.
Swimwear: Most cruise ships have a pool, so bring a swimsuit for relaxing on board.
Evening wear: Some cruises have formal or semi-formal dinners, so pack one or two dressy outfits.
2. Sun Protection
Egypt's sun can be intense, particularly during the day. Protect yourself with the following essentials:
Wide-brimmed hat or cap
Sunglasses with UV protection
High-SPF sunscreen
Light scarf or shawl to cover your neck or shoulders from the sun

Best Packing Tips To Business Travelers
When it comes to business travel, packing efficiently can make or break your trip. Whether you're flying first class or using charter jet services, having the right approach to packing ensures you’re prepared, professional, and stress-free. Let's dive into the best packing tips for business travelers.
Prioritize Your Essentials
The most crucial part of packing is ensuring that you have everything you need to conduct business successfully. Here's what you should prioritize:
Documents and Devices
Always pack essential documents and gadgets in your carry-on. This includes your passport, boarding pass (digital or printed), any business documents, contracts, or presentation materials. Devices like your laptop, tablet, and Smartphone should also be within easy reach.
Travel-Size Toiletries
While you may expect to receive toiletries onboard or at your destination, always carry your travel-size essentials. Items like a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and skincare can come in handy, especially on long-haul flights. If you're using charter jet services, you may have more flexibility with liquids, but keeping them organized ensures you’re always ready.
Choose Versatile Clothing
Choosing the right clothing for business travel is all about versatility and professionalism. Whether you’re attending meetings right off the plane or heading to a business dinner, here’s how to make your wardrobe work for you.
Mix and Match Staples
Select a color scheme (e.g., black, navy, or grey) and choose items that you can mix and match. For example, a blazer that pairs with both your trousers and casual jeans can go a long way. This strategy helps you minimize the number of clothes you bring while still maintaining a polished appearance.
Pack Wrinkle-Resistant Fabrics
Wrinkles can ruin a sharp look. Opt for wrinkle-resistant fabrics such as wool blends, jersey, and synthetics. Not only do they look good, but they also hold up well after being packed away for hours. When flying on charter jet services, you may have space to hang your suits, but it’s always smart to be prepared.
Smart Packing Techniques
Efficiency is the key when packing for business trips, especially if you're looking to travel light and avoid checked baggage. Follow these tips for a hassle-free packing experience:
Use Packing Cubes
Packing cubes are a business traveler’s best friend. These handy compartments help you keep your clothes organized and accessible. Use separate cubes for different items—one for shirts, one for pants, and another for accessories or shoes.
Roll, Don’t Fold
For clothing items like shirts, trousers, and t-shirts, rolling them up instead of folding can save a significant amount of space and prevent wrinkles. Rolled clothes fit snugly into packing cubes and leave room for other essentials, like your shoes and toiletries.
Don’t Forget Comfort Items
Even if you’re using charter jet services with luxurious amenities, it’s important to ensure you’re comfortable for the duration of your trip. Here are a few items to pack:
Noise-Canceling Headphones
Noise-canceling headphones can transform your flight experience. Whether you need to focus on work or relax during the journey, these headphones can block out background noise and help you unwind.
Travel Pillow and Blanket
If your trip involves overnight travel, packing a travel pillow and blanket will make all the difference in your comfort. Being well-rested helps you arrive at your destination refreshed and ready for business. With these tips, you’ll be prepared, professional, and ready to handle business at any destination.

Some gifts that you can give over the holiday season and any other time of the year that are more sustainable.
FOOD GIFTS are the greatest thing, whether it’s a special treat, or meals, or a bag of onions and potatoes—someone always needs this, it will be used, and given how many people have had serious cuts made to their income this year these kinds of gifts may be more important than ever
Food gifts could also be gift certificates to a local farm where the person receiving the certificate can pick out exactly what kind of local food they would like. You’re giving this gift certificate to an especially carnivorous person? See if you can get a certificate for a meat box or meat CSA
Food gifts might also be a gift certificate to a restaurant; you’re helping a small business AND getting someone you love a delicious meal
Enough about food, how about CLOTHES!! There are a few online consignment places (like ThreadUp) that can help you find the perfect garment for someone at an affordable price—and another great thing about it is you’re extending this garment’s life and keeping it from ending up in the landfill prematurely.
Since ThreadUp isn’t available in a lot of places in the world (unless you like paying customs), and IF it is SAFE for you to go to a consignment/thrift/used clothes shop that is also another way to get lovely gifts and support the local economy
Looking for not second-hand clothes? Plenty of brands are manufacturing clothing from recycled garments to water bottles. (I bought my mom a new fleece sweater made from water bottles and it only set me back $38).
Make a wish list, and ask people in return what’s on their wish list. Nope, it’s not picky, it’s not being ungracious: you’re working to eliminate a lot of unneeded and unwanted gifts. Also, it’s not sustainable to spend your money on stuff people don’t want.
A friend or family member is setting up house for the first time? They might enjoy any of the gifts above, or something to put in the new place: let’s talk about used furniture. No, I’m not talking couches or upholstered stuff (unless you are); maybe it’s a shelf, or a nice mirror you found at furniture thrift store, or that coffee table you have up in the attic and simply no room for. Or it could be a much smaller item: beeswax wraps or jars for food storage
Toothbrush and toothpaste. Okay, hear me out on this one: these were the go to stocking stuffers (along with chocolate) in my house, but this year I’m making sure that everyone in my house is getting a bamboo (or any other of the less plastic waste toothbrushes on the market) toothbrush and some toothpaste tablets. All the packaging was plastic free on these items and they will 100% be useful
While we’re talking about personal care products as gifts: want to make up someone a self care basket? Include items like toothpaste tablets, and a luxurious hand cream that comes in a tin (got mine at the farmers’ market ), a loofah made from real gourds, and a shampoo and conditioner bar.
Reader in your life? Used books make great gifts: it extends the life of a book before it gets tossed in the garbage or recycling, it educates or at least entertains the person reading, AND it supports a local small business. Also most used books only cost $3-$8 (some are as low as 25 cents each), which means you might be able to give someone hours and hours of entertainment with a small stack of books without breaking your bank.
Gift cards. Unfortunately, a lot of gift cards are made of plastic, but even that may be more sustainable than buying someone items they don’t need or want. It’s not an impersonal gift: you are letting the receiver have the ultimate choice of purchasing whatever they want or need. This can even include more private items that they may not want to specifically ask for on their wish list. Just don’t get an Amazon gift card, and why not make sure they can also use this gift card to buy groceries if they need to
Pay a bill for someone. This doesn’t need a long-winded reason of why it’s sustainable and probably so needed by so many people right now
Give a gift certificate from a local business. Pick a local business; restaurant, farm, garden centre, whatever floats your boat. Obviously make sure that the receiver could and would use this gift certificate. Extra points if the certificate is printed on paper or electronic, etc.
This isn’t a gift but stop ripping wrapping paper and treat it kindly and reuse it. We’ve had wrapping paper in circulation for years in my family—the same pieces of paper used over and over again. Gently opened, folded up and stored until it’s needed again. If you want to go off of wrapping paper entirely; of course you can always use newspaper, cloth, boxes, or reusable bags to make amazing, more sustainable gift coverings.
#cw food#cw christmas#i will probably add to this if I think of anything else#also please anyone add to this#Christmas#sustainable gifts#gift giving

*warning to mobile users, the “keep reading” tab may not work so apologies in advance*
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 |
Late mornings were not typical for Steve Rogers, but that didn't keep him from enjoying them. By now he should have been halfway through his early run before heading back home for a shower and a large breakfast. Still, a break from his normal routine was not unwelcome. After rubbing the sleep from his eyes he turned to look at the empty space beside him. This was another part of his normal routine that he wouldn't mind changing; waking up alone. There was nothing he could do about that if he stayed in bed, though, so Steve tossed aside the bed sheet and got up from the hard mattress. After finding a pair of sweatpants to pull over his boxers and a zip-up hoodie to cover his bare chest, he made his way to the kitchen.
The Brooklyn apartment was by no means as large or luxurious as the Compound, but it was everything Steve wanted in a place. The area was great and central to a lot of local business. The bedrooms were a decent size and the living room and kitchen area was a large open space with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the city. It wasn't the typical penthouse, but this entire level of the building was dedicated to just this apartment and the only way you could access the floor was by key. There were a few other security protocols set-up as well, of course. You could never be too careful. The last thing anyone wanted was an unwelcome visitor showing up at Captain America's front door. Not just his door since he also shared this space with two of his best friends and teammates. Having Sam and Bucky as roommates was just another great bonus. Well, most of the time.
Sam Wilson was seated on one of the stools by the kitchen island sipping from a glass of orange juice. His attention was seemingly fully focused on his tablet, but the second Steve entered the room all bets were off.
“Why did I move in with you people? What could have possibly possessed me to do such a thing? Desperation? Pity?” He tilted his chin upwards and pursed his lips as though really thinking about it. “Maybe I've just lost my damn mind.”
Steve rolled his eyes as he poured himself a glass of orange juice and took a long sip. “What is it now, Sam?”
“Not what...who.”
“Alright.” Steve conceded with a sigh. “What did Bucky do now?” Sensing that this wouldn't be short, or pretty, he took a seat at the counter beside him.
Last night the three roommates had gone out to a nearby bar. Not for any particular reason other than maybe seeing Bucky off before his solo mission. A few years had passed since his stint in Wakanda and after taking some much deserved time to himself Bucky agreed, however reluctantly, to return to active duty. There were of course some concerns, but it didn't take long for Bucky to prove himself and become a powerful addition to the team. His friendship with Sam was a little turbulent at times, but it was mostly due to the fact that they enjoyed pissing each other off. A night out at a bar was usually a recipe for competition.
“You wanna know what he did?” Sam said. “I'll tell you what he did. Picture it, a beautiful Saturday morning after a night out with no hangover in sight. No missions. No plans. No responsibilities. Just me and half a pizza in the fridge calling out her siren's song to me.”
Steve chuckled, but once he saw the lack of humor in Sam's eyes he cleared his throat, motioning for his friend to continue.
“So there I was, humming some Earth, Wind, and Fire as I made my way to this very kitchen when none other than the edgelord himself comes barreling into me. No shirt, no shoes, stinking of his nasty ass cologne from the night before, but wait,” Sam paused, pretending to sniff the air suspiciously. “There's another scent desperately clinging to life despite the overwhelming odds.”
Steve grimaced knowing what that meant. How out of it was he that he managed to sleep through the confrontation? “Okay so Bucky ate the pizza. It's not a big deal. Besides I don't remember anyone actually laying claim to the leftovers. You know the rules.”
Clearly, that wasn't the end of it though as Sam raised his hand in declaration. “Oh but it didn't end there! Barnes' reign of bullshit managed to completely ravage my entire morning in the span of twenty minutes. The guy is going for a record at this point.”
Apparently after eating the pizza Bucky then went on to finishing the last of the toothpaste, using Sam's towel to dry himself off after his shower, and topping it off by drinking the freshly-brewed coffee that Sam made for himself before Bucky was finally out of the door and heading for his mission briefing.
“He's back on his bullshit, Steve.” Sam folded his arms in front of his chest and stared at the other man. “Tell me this isn't about that girl still.” When Steve didn't answer right away Sam threw his hands in the air. “It's been two years! He can't still be hung up one girl.”
It was actually closer to a year and a half, but yes Steve did think it was about that girl. They never really knew who she was, only that for awhile there Bucky was the happiest Steve had ever seen him. He spent more nights away from home and would come back in the morning with a love-struck look that not even Sam could wipe away. When asked if they could meet her Bucky would dodge the subject or say it's complicated. Turns out it was a lot more complicated than they thought when he came home one day telling them that it was over. It was Steve's hope that during one of their nights out he would find someone new and move on.
“The guy just needs to go on a couple dates and get laid.” Sam suggested.
As much as Steve doubted it would be that simple he remained hopeful. “Did you see anyone leave his room this morning?” The other man snorted and shook his head, which was condescending enough to earn a unappreciative growl from Steve. “What I meant to respectively say was no. Barnes was solo this morning.” A sneer exposed Sam's white teeth. “Just like you.”
The blonde groaned and leaned back on his chair. He wasn't exactly doing any better when it came to finding love. There were girls he would see for a little while, but nothing that turned out to be more than just a fling. “What the hell is wrong with us?” Steve mumbled.
“What the hell do you mean by 'us'?” Sam scoffed indignantly. “Don't group me in with you two hopeless fools. I just so happen to be seeing someone.”
That got Steve's attention. “Bullshit. You do? Since when? Who is it?” The barrage of questions and disbelief in his tone did little to improve Sam's already sour mood. “What the hell, Steve? Do you know who you're talking to? Look at this.” Sam stood up, holding his hands out as he showcased himself with a slow twirl. Only Sam Wilson could pull off a silk robe and boxers set. “I'm a masterpiece. It was only a matter of time before I was swept off my feet and taken off the market by a beautiful woman.”
If there was one thing that could be said about Sam Wilson it was that he never lacked in confidence. Steve smiled at his friend. Sure, he was still a little shocked, but genuinely happy for the guy. “That's one lucky lady. What's her name?”
“Ah-ah. Nice try, Rogers, but these lips are sealed. ” He mimed zipping his lips shut and throwing away a key. “All you need to know is that she's a lady agent and she has good taste. Otherwise, I'm a man of mystery and I do not kiss and tell.”
Steve frowned. “But you're always prying into mine and Bucky's love lives.”
“Do as I say, not as I do, Cap.”
“Yeah fine, whatever.” Steve got up from his seat and made his way back to his bedroom to change. “I'm going for a run. And don't worry. I'll talk to Buck when he gets back.”
“Yeah, you better.” Sam called out. “Cause it he does just one more thing to piss me off, I will not be held accountable for smothering him with a pillow the next time he passes out on the couch.”
After three hours of running, Steve was on his way home and yet no closer to figuring out a way to help his friend. He scoffed and shook his head as he passed through the elevator doors. How could he help Bucky out of his funk when he didn't have a clue for himself? He was deep in thought as he rode up the multiple floors wishing that the answer to Bucky's happiness would appear before him. Though, when the doors finally opened to his floor, he was greeted by something that wasn't there when he left. There on the floor right outside of their door was what looked like a basket. A very particular kind of basket. One that shouldn't be sitting out front of anyone's door let alone the home of three bachelors. Before he could take a step closer, the basket started to cry.

November 19
(Fiction)
I know it’s my house – I know that I live here, but I have no emotional attachment to the place at all. The landscaping is half-hearted at best – black mulch with a few flowers whose tops have already become deer food. There are sticks piled everywhere – next to the wood pile, next to the shed, and filling a trash can at the back of the driveway. At least the siding on the house is new. That’s all I notice before Mom has the patio door open and I follow her in. This *is* a great patio, I think as she opens the back door, and I have visions of my two gray cats lounging in the sunlight. The two gray cats are standing in the dining room watching us. I haven’t been home for a few weeks but Mom’s been taking care of them, so they know the sound of her car. When they see me, they get excited. Their tails are twitching, Lily is making little cooing noises, and Jack waits to see where I’m going to settle so he can be at my side. It’s easy to be loving with them; I like animals better than most people.
“Where do you want to set up – in bed or on the couch?” Mom asks. “The couch, I think,” I answer. “The bed probably needs clean sheets.”
“Do you want me to change them for you?”
I chuckle. “I think I’m up to changing the sheets, Ma.”
“What about food? I brought you some chili and some vegetable soup but I imagine the refrigerator is empty…”
“But the freezer isn’t; neither is the pantry. I certainly have enough pasta and tuna fish to get me through until I go to the store.”
Mom sighs. I grab my phone charger and tablet from the bedroom and settle on the couch. “Are you sure I can’t get you anything?” she asks.
“Mom, I’m fine. I just want to snuggle with my cats and breathe for a little while. I promise I’ll let you know if there’s something I need.”
She scratches Jack’s head – he’s already jumped on the couch at my feet.“Okay. I’ll go. I’m sure it feels good to be home.”
Feel? I’m not sure I feel anything about being here, but it will be refreshing to have some alone time. “It does. I’m sure we’ll be fine.” Mom kissed my forehead. “I’m sure you will. Remember I have my kitties tomorrow but I’ll be home after that. Do you think you’re going to go to your home group?”
I thought about it. “Don’t see why not. Assuming I’m not asleep. It will be good to get out.”
“Probably. Don’t push yourself. Call me if you need anything.” Mom went over to Lily, who’d taken her place on top of the cat tower. “Take care of your mommy. I’ll see you later.” Mom threw her tote bag over her shoulder and walked to the back door. “Mom?”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you. For everything.”
Mom shrugged, but I could see her eyes fill. “That’s what moms are for.” She pulled the back door closed behind her.
I looked around. “Well,” I said to Jack, who was looking up at me. “Here we are.” I looked around the room at the bookcases crowded with books and tchotkes, the unfinished floors, the dusty TV stand, and sighed. I laid back and picked up my phone to see what was happening on the Internet, scrolled comments for a few minutes, put it back down and closed my eyes. Now what?
--------------------------------------------------
I woke up about an hour later – the sun was close to setting, so I got up and turned some lights on. I thought about unpacking, but couldn’t stop looking around at the disarray I’d left behind. Vacation souvenirs strewn across the desk and dining room table, bare nails on the walls, and so much stuff. SO much stuff.
It wasn’t that I had forgotten my life, exactly. I knew in my head I was a collector and a saver and ridiculously sentimental, and I could picture my house in my mind before I got home. I knew what I would be walking into. I didn’t know how I’d react to it – I was almost uncomfortable. Disgusted, even. I couldn’t remember ever feeling comfortable there – how could I with all the clutter? All the chaos? Why didn’t it bother me before?
Because that was Before, I told myself. Before the break, Before the treatment, Before they turned my brain off and on, hoping to break the hold my depression had on me. Before the hospital, Before the study, Before the blackness.
And this was After.
My depression had been part of me my entire life – I don’t remember ever not feeling sad around the edges or overly concerned about death or loss or just feeling things way too deeply. I never felt like I fit in at school, despite having friends and getting – well, grades – and graduating and going to college. I was always wondering what I should be doing and saying to look normal to everyone else, sure that I was giving myself away somehow. As what? I didn’t know. It was just that everyone around me went through their days making it look easy and it was so damn hard for me just to get out of bed.
It got worse as I got older, but I was also hungover a lot of the time. I was a late bloomer, but filled my college years and those immediately after with plenty of pot and alcohol. The pot made it easier to sit still in my own skin; the alcohol shut my mind off entirely. Especially once I started taking antidepressants. They tell you not to drink on those things, but no one told me my body would continue to function long after my consciousness had switched off. Luckily the police stopped me before I did any damage to anyone else, and the idea of a year behind bars was enough to scare me straight.
But my depression was still there. Twenty years and twelve steps didn’t take that away. Neither did talking or med changes or EMDR. And it was getting worse – now I was twenty years older and not so confident in my ability to make someone love me or even like me. I had plenty of acquaintances and even some good friends but still felt fundamentally alone. Everyone I knew was married or had kids and always had something to do. I did everything alone. It became easier to just do nothing.
Just leaving the house became work – something I made myself do because I was supposed to. I was supposed to show up at work to earn the money that paid the mortgage and kept the lights on and made me look like a productive member of society. I felt like a robot that didn’t have the luxury of being on autopilot. I gave myself directions in small bits: Go into the bathroom. Open the medicine chest. Pick up the toothbrush and toothpaste. Turn the water on. Put the toothpaste on the toothbrush. Brush your teeth. Upper and lower, inside and outside, gums and tongue. Rinse the brush. Clean your retainers. Rinse them off. Rinse off the toothbrush and put it back. Rinse your mouth out. Wipe your face. There. Was that so bad?
Yes, actually, it was that bad, and it was exhausting having to coax myself through every step of every day. And that was doing the bare minimum. Washing dishes, scooping litterboxes, taking showers, doing laundry, going to the grocery store – just enough to keep everything looking normal to everyone else. I rarely invited people over to my house because I was ashamed of the chaos, but never had the energy or motivation to do anything about it. I wanted my house to be cozy and inviting, but as the disorder escalated, it became harder to think about reversing. The broken dresser drawers sat on the floor in the middle of the bedroom. The furniture from the spare room stayed piled in the front. The hole in the wall in the spare room stayed unpatched.
And then I just stopped. I stopped walking myself through every step of every day. I stopped doing the laundry until I had literally nothing left to wear and then it never got put away. I stopped washing dishes and grocery shopping and defaulted to pizza and Chinese food. I stopped looking in the mirror at what I was wearing before I went to work. I stopped going to meetings. I didn’t want to use, because using meant not showing up for the people who loved me. I just didn’t want to do anything else either. My psychiatrist tried switching my meds around and I kept taking everything as prescribed until that became too much work too. Once I quit my meds the spiral was quick – I called out of work for a week and didn’t leave my house or answer the phone and cried when I realized I hadn’t emptied the litter boxes all week.
They were supposed to keep me from letting go – they needed me to take care of them and didn’t ask to be here. I still cared about their comfort. I cried and said I was sorry and finally called my mother and begged her to come do it for me. She and my step-father walked into my house, saw the state it was in, and got scared. “Have you been taking your meds?”
“No,” I wailed. Then we were in the car and in the emergency room and finally in the psych ward. Once my mother started crying so did I. I couldn’t stop crying even when the snot was running down my face. I didn’t stop crying until they left me there in the hospital bed, hooked up to saline and pumped with something that switched everything to flat. This was it. I no longer had any choices. I had finally let go. And it was almost a relief.

feeling blah? check your space. (long step-by-step)
my husband, who is probably the smartest and most spiritually awesome person i’ve ever known, has been trying to instill this kind of mental acuteness within me for years. sometimes i remember it, sometimes i forget. sometimes i remember it but it’s a high pain day. y’know how it is.
this is a little things kind of thing at first. a lot of my time is spent in front of my computer and a lot of it is spent on the sofa or in bed. but wherever i am, i try to keep my surrounding area clean.
why? well let me explain, both in a spiritual way, and for practical reasons.
in a small space, like my desk and on my side table of my bed, it’s imperative to feel open and spacious. if my side table or desk gets cluttered, i feel claustrophobic, or overwhelmed by Stuff. even if it’s things that are there to give me positive thoughts. If there are too many, it’s time to declutter.
a lot of people (anxiety sufferers, a-spec folks, adhd people) have this thing that makes them block out things that stick around for a while. things that stay in a static place for too long become background noise, but they give a feeling of clutter. it also sucks when you’re looking around you and you’re hit with a wave of knowing it’s there to make you feel better, but you’ve gotten mentally weary of that exact thing that’s been there for a long time.
So, go over this checklist with me.
Things up on the wall near you. How long has it been there? Is it helping? Is it mental/visual clutter? If it’s not stimulating it you how it should, it’s time to take it down.
Your horizontal space beside you. Does it have a bunch of unnecessary clutter? Are there things in that space that don’t have any important or special reason for being there? If you can, remove all the clutter, and re-arrange the important things to suit your space better. Don’t move things you have a reflex of it being there. (Y’know. tissue boxes, meds, your tablet pen, etc)
Your outer bubble. Are there things in your immediate area beyond where you’re sitting which is distracting you or making you feel nervous, claustrophobic, or overwhelmed? Do your best to find a solution to this problem. Clean up, brighten the area, and put something there that helps you relax.
Another big help is getting your whole area clean. Don’t push yourself to do everything at once. Take your time to do a little here and there, don’t rush yourself or stress yourself out about it. This is an in-depth reason for keeping things clean, how to feel super accomplished even in the littlest tasks, and respecting your own area. Here’s YA BIG ASS LIST.
Your bedroom: Clothes. are there dirty clothes around you, or clean clothes that haven’t been put away? Do yourself a favor and unclutter this first. Take all the dirty clothes you’ve been tripping over and sort them into light and dark piles. Put those light and dark piles. now you can start putting your clothes away. how i do this is i sort my clean clothes by what they are and which drawer they go. then i fold them and put them away. it gives me a chance to stretch and pop my back between the steps. And that’s like, six whole steps. now you’ve got two clean baskets (presumably) that you can use to put your dark and lights into for easier laundry. This is usually the worst and most draining job of the bedroom. break it into easy to do steps. drink some water while you’re doing it, just to make sure your joints aren’t getting tired while sorting and folding and putting away! Dishes. Are there any dishes in your room? Even if they’re stinky and weird, bring them into your kitchen. Get a clean glass for your water. Hey! that only took a few minutes, I’m sure. Give yourself a rest. A+ cleaning, and I’m not being condescending. That’s a great job! Garbage. I’m sure you’ve got some papers or snack wrappers, or drink cans/bottles/disposable cups. go from the door of your room with a plastic bag, gather stuff up as you pass by it. bring that out of your room, and suddenly you don’t feel like you live in a landfill. Bedding. How long have you been sleeping in between the same top cover and sheet? When’s the last time you changed out your pillowcase? It’s time for a change. remove them, throw them in a pile, and put some clean ones on. If you don’t have other ones, wash those and once they’re dry, put them back on. You’ll feel cleaner and get to sleep better. Clutter. Hell, this is me all over. I’ve got too much cool stuff and paperwork cluttering my shelves. I follow the six month rule with paperwork, clothes, and useful stuff that barely gets use. Are you going to need it or use it within six months? If no, get rid of it or pack it away. Bring the clothes to your local thrift store if you can. If you’ve got decorations that have gotten dusty or grimy, take one of your bored days to clean them up. not only will you be doing something that makes you happy, but it’ll make your room far less apt to accrue negative energy. Your knickknacks bring you joy. Treat them respectfully! Floor: Vacuum. get the dust, dead skin, and whatever else up out of there. Side note: If you are having bad dreams, there’s a few neato things you can do to help you sleep. Some people swear by amethyst under your pillow. Some others suggest other stones. idk about y’all but stones under my pillow are somehow worse than troubles with dreams or sleep. I prefer sachets for in your pillowcase. even if you aren’t the best at sewing, you can do this. Just get a tiny white fabric baggie. whatever works for you. Just make sure it’s secure, so the herbs don’t get loose and make your bed an itchfest. lavender is the primary scent people go with, though I’m not the biggest on that scent. anise is another one that works, because this is silly but true: it’s shaped like a star. cedar, since the middle ages, has been thought to cure persistent nightmares, and open you to lucid dreaming. jasmine is such an awesome flower and scent, so mellow and enchanting. i’d suggest this because of its calming and kind vibe. find dried jasmine and add it to the bag. there’s a ridiculous many herbs worth exploring here. If you want to get spicy with it, I suggest adding a sigil or even an amulet of the one you want to look over you in your sleep. I use an amulet of the archangel Gabriel, who presides over dreams and sleep.
Your Bathroom: Your area rugs. These little buggers need to be washed. They’re usually made of fabric. Fabric that hangs out in your dampest room, no less. You probably don’t think of it often, but mildew is not a good thing for your health, and those things get mildew like crazy. Time for the washer and dryer again! Your towels and washcloths. How long has that washcloth been chilling there? Okay, if it dries and becomes a stiff nasty mess? Time to switch them out. Towels (especially hand towels) need to be washed frequently, too. Not only because the mildew thing is still y’know. a thing. but you deserve to be cleaned by clean things. it’s better for your body, and it’s so good for your spirit, to know that you’re doing right by yourself. Your place you keep things. You know, that place you keep your products, makeup, whatever. Is it in disarray on a messy shelf or counter? Time to fix that up! Set all those things aside, clean the surface they’ve been chilling on. Then you can get things sorted and aligned. Did you know straight lines are satisfying? Try it. Also if you have a candle in there, just light it for a little bit. Not only is it trés romantic and luxurious, but it burns the stank out of there, not just physically, but otherwise, as well. Your toilet. Not only the bowl. The bottomside of the seat, and the hinges that attach the seat and lid. and back behind those hinges, where the shitter meets the tank. Goodbye stink goblins! Also bye that general gross feeling. Your tub. You dissociate there a lot, think your thoughts, and get clean, but that means your dead skin, hair, and oils are all over that. I personally use either orange cleaning solution or magic erasers, and those fucking rock that shit out. Oh, don’t forget to de-hair your drain. Gross nasty gluck. Personally, my mom told me to stop associating those oils, hair, and all that other stuff with yourself. (and nail clippings.) This makes sure you don’t wind up getting hexed. (Those nail clippings and that nasty hair can VERY easily be used in a hex bag.) Your sink and mirror. First off, how the hell are you going to take bathroom selfies if this makes you always internally go “yikes”, and not at yourself. Scrub the toothpaste grit from around and in the sink. Side note: If you don’t like what you see when you look in the mirror, you can set rose incense near the mirror, use that hypothetical bathroom candle, and turn the light off. Speak into the mirror, “I am the best me so far.” or something similar. Remind yourself that you are okay, no matter what kind of imperfections you think are there. You are incredible. Nobody’s seeing your flaws because they’re too busy fretting about their own. It’s cool. you’re cool. Floor. while those stinky area rugs are out and on their way to the large cloth water vortex, take a minute to sweep. Envision yourself sweeping away not only the garbage and grut, but the anxiety and bad feelings. Dustpan, garbage, good. Trash. I left this for last. You’ve got a lot of stuff you’ll need thrown out. If you use a plastic shopping bag in a tiny little garbage pail like i do, it’s time to clean it out. If you’re also a nasty bitch like me, you’ve gotta also put the stuff that missed the garbage can in there too. Go take that to your main trash to go out with you next time you leave your place. Well now your bathroom is flawless and won’t make you subconsciously make you anxious. You’ve got things looking like they’re almost meant to like, exist in the fictional world Jenna Marbles apparently lives.
Kitchen: Fridge: Clean out all the nasty shit. Wipe it down. Put the containers over near the sink to wash. Dishes. Do you have piles of these nasty bitches fucking up your day, every time you go on a raid for sustenance? First step is to gather them, then take your time for each step. Wash them. Put them away. As you do this, speak to yourself, chant to yourself, or just think to yourself, that by cleaning these, you are doing right and fair to your body. a clean dish is a healthy dish. a clean pan is a pan that will cook happy foods. This whole room is capable of so much, and can do so much for your joy and health. Sink. After you’re done cleaning the dishes, you can unstink your sink. Again, I’m all about that orange solution, but if you like another scent that makes you feel energized, go for it. This is the part of the kitchen that shares like, a third of the work. This is where all the negative and gross goes. Down the drain both physically and emotionally. Get the fuck out of here, nasty! Counters. Just wipe them down until they’re not nasty and crumb-laden and have spatters on them. tell them that they’re going to do great things for you. If you’re a kitchen witch, you’re making all your cool shit on them. Stove/microwave/the heaty thingy. Ungrut it. our friend the stovetop is the unfortunate victim of nasty cooked on things. So is our screwy science friend, the microwave. Scrubby dubby! sometimes you’ll need to soak ‘em. Whatever makes it easier for you. Floor. It’s time to sweep! again, take that broom and use it, not just to get rid of sugar, cereal and even the dried corns nibblets that fell under the fridge, but the negative energies. again, be firm about it. Fuck outta here, dark spookies! carefully pour the stuff in your garbage. Ya Cabinets. Before you pull out the mop and bucket, don’t forget the surfaces of the cabinets. A Happier kitchen is a kitchen that doesn’t tell you the story of the ill-begotten incident of the chicken parm. You see that squidge of marinara on the cabinet door and have been annoyed by it since it was made. Time to get it gone. All the while, think about the things these cabinets have seen. All the weird utensils you never use that live in this drawer. The fondue machine you bought with the aspirations of having a 70s night get together, as told to you by that very convincing guy at IKEA. Think of all these cool things in your kitchen. Focus on the positive moments you’ve spent in here. Picture the future of this kitchen. And thank it for the memories to come. Floor 2: Slippery Boogaloo. Mop and bucket time!!! No seriously if you don’t like mopping, idk what to say. Do your kitchen a solid and scrub away all that nasty crap that didn’t make it into the dust pan. Once you’re done and it’s drying, feel fucking awesome about a job well done. Side note: Hey y’know what kicks ass in a kitchen? The scent of the season. A lot of people get down with the welsh calendar, and that’s a great way of cycling through the seasons comfortably for people. then there’s the regular four seasons, but do it how you want. It’s imbolc as of the time I’m writing this. I personally love cinnamon and sandalwood, since they’re both wonderfully warm scents, to balance out the wintry shivers of the outside. You can use essence oils, or like, airwicks, or candles, or even make a wreath with those fun things in there that are aromatic on one of your walls.
Living room Seriously, all these hot takes can be used in the living room now. Clean under and between the couch cushions. clean your decorations. declutter. Remember the good times as you clean. And then to cleanse it of all the gross energies, do what you do. Use white and sweet flower/herb scents to reset the most important room of your house’s energies. Side note: If you want to keep your stuff from disappearing, place a pin safely deep under your couch/chair cushion. This is called pinning the devil. you’re literally pinning down whatever it is that’s keeping you from finding - or straight up disappearing - your stuff. If you have guardians - decorations of animals of some sort - make sure they have a full spy of the room. I prefer putting one on each corner of the room so everything can be seen. This makes sure the energy you want in your home is respected. If someone has bad intentions, this will give off a vibe of them being unwelcome and feel your guardians’ eyes on them. If they’re someone that you appreciate, and you feel comfortable around, these guardians will keep things nice for you and give your home a welcoming feeling. don’t forget to dust them.

Why Matte Tile Is Suitable For Bathroom
Compared with other types of tiles, matte tiles have more prominent advantages in terms of look and feel and maintenance, so many bathrooms choose matte tiles. The grey simple style created by the grey matte subway tile 75x300 in the bathroom of my friend’s house gives people the ultimate luxury, and the white and black echoes each other, giving a strong sense of fashion.
Why did she choose matte tiles?
1. In fact, matte is relative to polishing, that is to say, it is a non-glossy surface. This can avoid light pollution and is more convenient to maintain. Because the polished is too bright, it is easy to dazzle the eyes; but the matt is easy to get dirty, but it is easy to clean. This is related to the difference between the glaze used in the polished bright tile and the matt tile. For tall tiles, the matt glaze is easier to absorb dirt than the bright tiles, but it will not penetrate into the glaze, which can be removed with common detergents. The matt brick is better for human eyes under strong light, and the visual effect is also very good. Therefore, matte tiles are better than polished tiles and are more tasteful. In addition, choose the color according to your own preferences. Take my friend as an example agagin, my friend chooses gray.
2. The matte brick has many mosaics and flower pieces, you can use flower pieces and pipe fittings to design the wall according to your own hobbies, so that the home decoration effect is good. The advantage of the larger matte tile is that the light reflection coefficient of the relatively bright tile is relatively low, and it will not cause light pollution. Over-bright tiles will not only affect the warmth and comfort of the home environment, but will also affect the eyesight health of the family in the long run. And we often go in and out of the bathroom, at least twice a day, so matte tiles are a good choice.
3. Long-term living in a home environment where the walls and the ground are too bright, light reflection will stimulate the retina, which is beyond the adaptability of the eyes, not only will make the eyes tired, and even cause the decline of visual function, but also easy to make people appear Dizziness, upset, insomnia, decreased appetite, low mood, fatigue and other symptoms similar to neurasthenia.
How to clean matte tiles in the bathroom?
1. When cleaning matte tiles daily, you can use detergent, soap and other water mixed with mop to clean.
2. Add a little ammonia or turpentine mixture with soap to increase the gloss of matte tiles.
3. Waxing it regularly, and the time interval is about 2-3 months.
4. If the surface of the matte brick is accidentally scratched, it is recommended to apply toothpaste on the scratched area, and then wipe it with a dry cloth to reduce the degree of scratches.
5. It is easy to hide dirt in the gaps of matte bricks. It is recommended to use decontamination cream to remove dirt from time to time. If a layer of waterproofing agent is applied to the gaps, the effect will be better, which can prevent mold growth.
6. If you accidentally sprinkle tea, coffee, beer, ice cream, grease and other stains on the matte tile, you can use a small amount of sodium hydroxide or potassium bicarbonate solution to clean it.
7. It is recommended to use dilute solution such as hydrochloric acid and nitric acid to clean the stains such as ink and cement.
8. It is better to use special cleaners for paints, coatings and other pollutants.
9. If you encounter iron rust, you can use 2% oxalic acid solution to remove it, and then wipe it with a cloth moistened with water; or use a few vitamin C tablets to grind it into a powder, sprinkle it on the surface of the matte brick, and scrub with a brush several times. It can remove rust stains; you can also use 10% oxalic acid, citric acid and water to soak the rusted area, and then rub it again with concentrated salt water.
10. If you accidentally touch the glue, you can use banana water to get rid of it. Then wipe it with clean water. Remember to wear gloves, because banana water is corrosive.
How often does the bathroom tiles need to be cleaned?
It's usually a week, but it's more frequent if there are more people. Some people are more hygienic, they can clean the floor titles every day, and the room and living room will be dragged once a day. Some people who are more hygienic may have to clean several times a day. For those of us who are busy with work, we usually clean the bathroom when we are relatively free on weekends, and the cleaning of other rooms is also arranged on the weekend.

Ghosts & Echos.
This one’s set after the war. It seems even in death, Negan isn’t finished with Daryl.
Chapter One.
Carol/Daryl
Supernatural/Suspense/Hurt/Comfort etc.
His footsteps echoed along the empty corridor inside the sanctuary, and even though it was a warm, sunny spring day outside, it felt awfully cold where Daryl stood. He moved slowly, his back to the wall and his crossbow poised to fire at any unseen enemy that may cross his path.
They were looking for supplies, anything that had survived the war was fair game for being put to good use now, everyday items like towels, toothpaste and the odd luxury were in such great demand.
Daryl shuddered from the cold as he made his way down the corridor that had once lead to the cell he was held in, the memories of what happened in there came flooding back into Daryl’s mind, causing a stray tear to fall from his right eye as he remembered being huddled in that tiny dark cell and forcibly shown the Polaroid photos of Glenn and Abraham’s smashed skulls.
He had only just really recovered physically from what happened, the brutal murders, being held against his will and tortured by Negan. The scars left on his body, the dull ache that still radiated from the bullet wound in his shoulder inflicted by Dwight, all stark reminders.
Emotionally he had a long way to go, nightmares still plagued him, he often had awful flashbacks too, sometimes it got too much and he’d be forced to take sleeping tablets just to get some much needed rest.
It was Carol that had helped him the most. Carol had come straight to the Hilltop when she heard about Jesus’ mission to rescue Daryl from the Sanctuary after Negan held him captive. She’d helped Jesus and Rick get him to Harlan, who’d tended his injuries and sedated him so he could get some much needed, undisturbed rest in order to shake of the fever from his infected gunshot wound. He was delirious, confused and disoriented when he was found. Carol had held onto him all the way back, reassuring him he was safe and that he would be ok.
She was there next to his bed when he woke up from his drugged sleep, stroking her fingers through his messy long hair.
In the several days it had taken Daryl to begin to recover from his ordeal, Carol was by his side every step of the way. She helped him up every morning, helped him shower and get dressed, fed him well, helped him get his strength back.
After the war was over they’d both moved into the Hilltop, and shared a large bedroom there that Maggie had allocated specially for them both. Daryl thought it was Maggie’s and the other’s way of repaying them for their service during the war, the least they could do.
Daryl and Carol’s mission to scavenge from the remains of the Sanctuary was spurred on by the fact winter was well on the way and supplies, such as blankets and tough shoes were desperately needed.
Daryl approached the door to the small cell he had been held in, his hands began to visibly shake as they gripped the crossbow that had saved and taken so many lives.
Carol had gone upstairs to take the upper floors while Daryl took the lower ones, they figured they could sweep the place quicker if they split up. They stayed in contact via two way radios, both checking they were in working order before embarking on their scavenging mission. Daryl usually loved spending time away from Hilltop scavenging, it gave him time to process his thoughts, take out his frustration on walkers and if she came along, spend time alone with Carol.
Daryl felt very exposed and vulnerable as he approached the cell door, a feeling he loathed so much. He wanted Carol by his side, hell, he needed her there, but they had a job to do, there was no time for emotions right now. Tears stung behind his eyes like salt in a fresh wound but Daryl pushed his feelings away and focussed on the mission.
As the memories of the time he was held by Negan came flooding back to him, he knew he’d probably have a good cry later on, when he could lay in their big bed, Carol’s arms around him, her soft voice telling him he was allowed to feel things, he was human.
Daryl could shelve his emotions and deal with them at a later time, a skill he had acquired during the many beatings his father gave him when he was a child and one single tear could mean a beating lasting that extra minute or more.
For a second, Daryl thought he heard footsteps echo along the long corridor, coming towards him. He trained his ears toward the sound, a low, steady thud, thud, thud. It must be Carol he thought, but he dare not call out for risk of alerting walkers to their presence and location. The air began to feel cooler, and even though it was a cool-ish October day outside, it felt quite unnatural.
Daryl managed to shift his transfixed gaze from the cell door, brushed off the sound he had just heard as either the wind, or a feral animal prowling the place, nothing a crossbow bolt wouldn’t stop. He managed to mentally dodge another flashback bought on by the sight of the dark, dank cell.
He raised his crossbow again and began to walk further into the dull, barely lit corridor ahead of him. This was the way to Negan’s bedroom, a place that would surely contain a lot of the items they needed.
He radioed Carol to ask her how she was doing. ‘I’m ok sweetie, just found a job lot of tampons!’ she giggled. ‘That’s not much use to ME you silly woman’ Daryl teased back. ‘Going into the next room, I think it’s the med room, god, let it be the med room’ Carol whined playfully. ‘So long as you’re ok hon’ Daryl said, if Carol was ok, then so was he.
They’d agreed to pile all the items they gathered by the door that they’d come in through, then use a trolley they’d found outside to ferry all of it to their truck.
He heard it again, this time it sounded a lot closer, thud, thud, thud, it was coming towards him. Daryl felt cold again, that same sense that something wasn’t right came over him. His body was picking up on something his mind wasn’t, he visibly trembled again.
Then another sound joined in, a sort of ‘scree, screeee’ sound, like something being dragged along the wall. Daryl had heard this sound before, but he could not put a finger on where. He raised his crossbow and pointed it into the shadows that loomed ahead of him, aware that it could well be Carol, so he continued carefully.
He whispered into his radio ‘Carol? Is that you, are you making that noise?’ ‘No babes, I heard something, I thought that was you’. ‘Naw, be careful darling, please’ Daryl insisted over the radio. ‘Sure thing’ Carol quipped back.
Suddenly, the air temperature dropped, it was so cold, Daryl began to shiver and was able to see the steam of his breath drifting out of his mouth and nose.
‘What the fuck’ he mumbled to himself, unable to fathom this unnatural feeling that now enveloped him.
Then, in what is now probably the most terrifying moment in the redneck’s life, he heard another sound.
It was that unmistakable whistle, the one Negan would use when he was approaching someone or some other people, his trademark whistle if you like.
Daryl froze to the spot, in full fight or flight mode. This had to be one of two things, a really immature person playing a really stupid, dangerous prank, or someone left over from the war, a shambling Saviour on their last legs maybe?.
His mind began to piece it all together, the ‘scree’ sound he had heard just a few minutes before, that was Lucille! Lucille being dragged along the wall.
‘What the fuck is going on’ Daryl mumbled to himself, it was so cold too, so cold in fact that ice began to form on one of the windows he was in front of .
He was unable to move, he wanted to run, he wanted to radio Carol, but fear stopped him doing any of those things.
His only thought at this point was for Carol, she had to be ok. She was his world now.
The sounds grew even louder, the air colder still.
Daryl could hear the thumping of his heart in his head. Fear flooded his body. Deep down, something told Daryl that he was not dealing with a human, a walker or even a Chupacabra right now, his belief in the supernatural told him he was very likely dealing with the vengeful ghost of Negan.
Daryl had never been so afraid in his entire life, this was outside of what he was able to contend with, even Daryl Dixon has a breaking point.
The thuds stopped, Daryl felt what felt to him like a slight breeze moving past him, slowly. Did he just see a shadow in his peripheral vision?, a flicker of something not of this world?.
Suddenly the silence was broken by a booming, unmistakable voice, ‘little pig! LITTLE PIG!!’ echoed around him.
Long gone was the moment that Daryl blamed the wind. He was a very outdoors person and knew what the wind was capable of, and this was far beyond it’s remit.
There was no question, this was the voice of NEGAN, but Negan was dead! He was dead, Daryl shook violently, unable to hold himself together anymore, he froze dead to the spot where he was stood.
This had to be a sick joke, it couldn’t be anything else, could it? His skeptic side trying it’s best to rationalize this.
Just as Daryl managed to get his shaking hand to move towards his radio so he could check on Carol, an unseen force hit him like a freight train, knocking him to the floor and knocking his crossbow from his grip, causing it to clatter to the ground.
(Disclaimer, sadly I do not own The Walking Dead or any of those awesome characters, I just write these for entertainment and fun purposes only)

Review: Lush Sleepy Lotion and Twilight Shower Gel
Let me start off by saying: yes, Lush can be pricey and some of their products seem counterintuitive (toothpaste?? as a tablet?? why) or overdone (not gonna lie I still appreciate a good bathbomb), but I do appreciate their strides in fighting animal testing, using fresh ingredients to create handmade products, acquiring their ingredients ethically, and being an environmentally conscious brand. They also make sure to pay their employees living wages. All of these factors contribute to pricier items, but I mainly have received Lush products as gifts -- which is nice because my budget wouldn’t handle the splurge.
I recently received Lush’s Sleepy body lotion and Twilight shower gel (both lavender-scented) as gifts and fell in love.
I had actually run out of the Sleepy lavender body lotion earlier that week and it was by coincidence that I was gifted it a few days later. It was one of my favorites of 2017 -- as someone with dry/sensitive skin who lives in the northeast, I’m constantly slavering myself in lotion. This body lotion was thick but not too oily or sticky and the all-natural lavender scent was super calming in my stressful day-to-day life. I personally love the smell of lavender, but if you’re not big into strong scents, this lotion isn’t for you (and let’s be honest, the entire Lush store probably isn’t for you). The container is relatively small compared to most lotions I use but the consistency is so concentrated that you only need a very small amount of the pastel lavender. It literally makes me feel luxurious to use it.
This has been my first week using the Twilight shower gel and I like it as well. I haven’t had as much time to fall in love with it, but it does keep me well moisturized and makes my bathroom smell like a calming lavender spa. It’s a little runnier than other shower gels I’ve had from Lush so I keep using too much, but like other Lush shower gels it’s pretty concentrated so the small bottle should last you awhile. Unlike the fittingly-lavender-colored body lotion, Twilight is a dark purple. As an artist, I find the colors of both to be very fitting and very calming -- integrating the lavender into my sleep routine has been super helpful in falling asleep.
The Twilight shower gel is currently sold out online but the Sleepy body lotion is still up on their site! I highly recommend both, and if you’re feeling thrifty and you’re in the minority of people who live near a Lush store, grab a free sample if you can (grab as many samples as you can) and treat yourself to a little luxury and calm as you head into the new semester.

Camping Essentials - What To Pack For A Weekend Of Tent ... in Lake Isabella

The type of outdoor camping and variety of people on your journey will determine the kind of tent you'll need. When we invest in a camping tent, we search for low-volume three-season tents made with durable materials, like aluminum poles and breathable polyester walls. For solo backpacking, we like Marmot's one-person Tungsten UL Camping Tent for its fully-sealed waterproof flooring and rain fly, and added vestibule for boot and pack storage to keep it neat.
We like compact double-door alternatives, like Mountainsmith's Celestial Camping tent, for duo backpacking treks. Both featured tents will get you through years of journeys and tracks, as long as you're not planning for any major mountain climbing up or cold-weather outdoor camping. For that, you'll require a four-season camping tent, like Marmot's Thor model, with a sturdy six-pole style to keep your camping tent grounded in harsh winds and secure versus heavy snowfall that would weigh down the roofing of a two or three-season camping tent.

A spacious 4- or six-person camping tent, like these options from Kelty and Big Agnes, are best for families and large groups looking to bunk together. We specifically like their big panel mesh ventilation and additional in-tent storagejust do not pack either for a winter season weather vacay! You'll need a large four-season option, like Marmot's Lair Camping tent, for any mountain trips.

Most camping journeys only truly need two pairs of shoes: a tough pair of boots to cover your daytime experiences, and a water resistant set of slip-ons or sandals for showering, popping in and out of your tent, and walks to close-by lakes or beaches. If you have additional space in your pack, add a little luxury to your journey by packing three sets of shoesboots, flip flops, and waterproof slip-ons.

Makeup, various clothing for every day, not practical shoes, hardback books, brass instrumentsleave all of it in your home.
While parks often have visitor centers and park stores with some basics, it's not like you'll have the ability to simply run around the corner and select up something important that didn't make the cut due to packing your entire closet - kern river ca. The point of camping is to take pleasure in the excellent outdoor and to exist off of simply what you require.
And while it's fun to bring a guitar, parlor game, or book along, don't bring a lot of. Among each will likely be more than you'll use. If you're solo backpacking and wish to bring a book for business, tear the pages out as you check out and recycle them when you can or use them for campfire fuel to keep your pack light.

The Annapurna Circuit is one of the most popular hikes in the Nepalese Himalaya, encircling 3 of the 10 highest mountains in the world and quite a few very bloody high peaks to boot. The full trek is roughly 220 km from start to finish and will take 3 to 4 weeks to complete.
The circuit is classified as a teahouse trek, which means that each night you’ll stay in a hotel in the many villages dotted along the trail, no camping required.
The circuit starts at 820m and then rises to Thorung La, which at 5416m is one of the highest mountain passes in the world. The altitudinal range means that you can traverse temperate forest one week and alpine desert the next.
Annapurna Circuit in Nepal is classified as a teahouse trek, so no camping is needed.
How to get there
Malaysian and Singapore Airlines fly to Kathmandu from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore respectively. From Kathmandu, you will need to find your way to the trailhead at the mostly unremarkable town of Besisahar.
A public bus is one option. The pace is ancient but it’s also the cheapest. Also, consider the more comfortable Greenline tourist bus. You’ll get free WI-FI and water, and also a catered lunch stop for about A$30-35.
Tip: if you take the Greenline, you’ll need to get off at the bustling highway town of Dumre and arrange further transport to Besishahar.
The most expensive is a private vehicle, which would be the quickest option.
Whichever you go with, the 173 km journey will take at least 6-7 hours. The roads are busy with various forms of transport and accidents on the narrow mountain roads are common.
Preparation
Fitness
You’ll need to be reasonably fit to hike the entire length. Sure, you won’t need to pack the crampons and ice axes, but there are many steep ascents and descents with areas of uneven ice and snow-covered terrain.
Be prepared for and understand the effects of altitude on the body before you decide to do this trek. Altitude sickness can ruin your hike, even if you consider yourself reasonably fit. It’s best to visit your doctor to ensure you’re in good health before you book your trip.
Nevertheless, some long distance hikes with a loaded backpack over hilly terrain would be ideal preparation. You can read more about training for a multi-day hike here.
You’ll need to be fit enough to tackle a typical long distance hike at a high altitude.
To porter or not to porter?
Whether you hire a porter to carry your stuff will be dependent on your budget, fitness level and the type of experience you want to have.
For those that want a walking guidebook, hire someone that knows the names of the various summits and the history behind them. I used a porter on this trek, and I think mine got sick of me asking!
Porters will also gladly arrange meals, accommodation and transport for you and are great company too.
Whether you hire a porter or not depends on the kind of trip you want to have.
When to visit
Winter is the dry season in Nepal (December to February). Skies are usually bright, clear and sunny.
Their winter is very cold, but with proper clothing and equipment, you’ll be comfortable to enjoy the starry skies and mountain peaks. A small price to pay for a bit of frozen toothpaste!
You’ll also enjoy relatively snow-free trails, as the circuit receives most of its precipitation during the summer monsoon.
The monsoon season (June to September) is not recommended if you want clear, unobstructed views of the mountains. But the landscape will be a verdant green and the waterfalls are at their majestic best.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the best compromise but be prepared for crowded teahouses, long waits for food and less solitude with nature.
Do I need a visa for Nepal?
Yes, Australians need a visa to enter Nepal. If you’re travelling to Nepal for tourism you can get one upon arrival at
The dry season is a good time to visit, as you’ll still get clear skies.
What to bring
Gear will depend on the time of year, but this is a rough guide:
Merino base layers, a fleece jumper, wind jacket and down jacket, especially if trekking between October and April. Softshell pants are optional – I saw a guy hiking in jeans!
Beanie, gloves, and buff if it’s cold
Diamox for altitude sickness and Imodium for the inevitable upset stomach.
Water purification tablets to treat water, minimising the need to buy bottled water. Do not drink untreated water in Nepal! For more on safe hydration, check out this article here.
A sturdy, fitted backpack.
Hiking boots – that you’ve worn in. Blisters are no fun and can seriously detract from the enjoyment of, well, everything really.
Hiking socks
Sun protection – for high UV and snow glare. This means hats, sunglasses, lip balm, etc.
Maps and guidebooks – you can’t really get lost on the Annapurna Circuit, but the trail occasionally diverges and you have a choice of route.
Sleeping bag – buy one that is rated for the season you intend to visit in, but you could probably get away without one in summer. The tea houses generally provide other bedding.
Hiking poles
Head torch – essential for most of Nepal where power outages are frequent.
Hand sanitiser, wipes and toilet paper – worth their weight in gold.
Make sure you bring the guidebooks that you can navigate.
Costs for food and accommodation
Over the three weeks of trekking, I averaged A$25 a day for food and accommodation at the time of writing this. This does not include porter fees, any souvenirs you want to pick up, or transport to and from the trail. Bring cash with you to pay for things along the way. Meals and snacks are available along the trek, but you can bring your own snacks if you don’t mind carrying the extra weight.
Permits you’ll need
You will also need to purchase the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) permits in Kathmandu before you set off. Both will set you back about A$25 if trekking individually, or about half that if trekking in a guided group.
Food and accommodation will set you back around A$25 a day.
Suggested itinerary
Segment 1 – Besisahar to Dharapani (40 km)
The start of the trail! From a starting elevation of 820m, follow the Marsyangdi River steadily upwards through quaint, rural villages and farmland. Settle into a routine of dhal bat (rice and lentil soup), milky coffee and school children holding your hand as you walk.
Opt to stay in Upper Chamje and order the Snickers roll (basically a Snickers bar cooked in hot pastry) and relax among the simal trees and waterfalls. You won’t be disappointed!
Nearing Dharapani (1900m), the canyon walls narrow and you will truly feel like you are up in the Himalayas.
The start of the journey will take you through farmland and small villages.
Segment 2 – Dharapani to Manang (50 km)
Shortly after Dharapani, you’ll catch your first glimpse of the snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna Massif, including Manaslu (8163m), eighth highest in the world.
There is a definite chill in the air as you pass through the ancient villages of Thanchouk (2400m) and Koto (2600m), unchanged for centuries.
The first glimpses of the snow-capped peaks.
After stocking up on any essentials in the regional capital Chame (2670m), I recommend the upper route to Manang (though there is a lower). It is one of the most beautiful sections of the circuit, with panoramic views of Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III (7555m) and Gangapurna (7454m).
After a lung-busting 300 metre ascent, stop for some momos (Tibetan dumplings) in Ghyaru (3730m) and overnight in the ancient village of Ngawal, huddled against the mountains on a wind-swept plain.
Manang (3500m) is one of the bigger towns on the trek, and you’ll be spoilt for choice in terms of accommodation. Absolutely stay here for 2 nights for acclimatisation, especially if you opt to take the lower route from Chame.
Eat some delicious momos (dumplings) along your way.
Segment 3 – Manang to Muktinath via Thorung La (31 km)
The stretch of scenery between Manang (3540m) and Letdar (4200m) is absolutely exemplary, and the type of epic mountainscapes that inspired me to hike the Annapurna Circuit.
Higher up, there is a conspicuous lack of trees, people, flowing water and oxygen. Some parts of the trail look like the surface of Mars.
The higher you get, the less plant life you will see on this trek.
Indeed, the lonely outpost of Gunsang (3950m) is the last permanently inhabited village before the other side of the pass.
You’re almost at the top! The night before crossing Thorung la, you can either stay in Thorung Phedi (4450m) or High Camp (4925m). I recommend staying in High Camp if you are feeling good, as this way there is a shorter 600-metre climb to the pass the next day.
This part of the trek showcases some incredible mountain scenery.
Segment 4 – Muktinath to Tatopani (62 km)
Muktinath (3760m) is the perfect place to rest your weary bones after a 1600 metre descent from Thorung La. In addition to being an extremely auspicious pilgrimage site for Buddhists and Hindus, many trekkers will end their journey here and Jeep it to Pokhara.
But the Annapurna Circuit has still much to offer! Kagbeni (2810m) is a small, almost medieval village with rustic mud houses and narrow, cobbled alleyways. Kagbeni deserves at least 2 nights to explore its unlimited charm.
After Kagbeni, you will gradually lose altitude and enjoy the soupy, oxygen-rich air. The village of Marpha is another highlight, with its white-washed walls, famous apple pie and a prominent Buddhist monastery.
In Kalopani (2530m), there are several more fancy teahouses where you can enjoy such luxuries as iced coffee, cocktails and fast-ish semi-reliable WI-FI. Go on, you’ve earnt it!
Kalopani is also one of the only places on the circuit where Dhaulagiri (8167m) and Annapurna I (8091m) can be seen simultaneously.
Kagbeni is a small village you should take the time to explore on your trek.
Segment 5 – Tatopani to Naya Pul (28 km)
Tatopani (1190m) will probably feel quite warm compared to the last couple of weeks trekking. The town is famous for its hot springs, making it the perfect place to soothe tired muscles.
But, you aren’t quite done with climbing just yet. Ghorepani (2860m) is a hard slog up multiple flights of stairs, but it is set amongst the misty forest, ferny canyons and superb rhododendrons (best-seen flowering in spring).
Instead of going directly to Naya Pul from Ghorepani, take the forested ridge to Ghandruk, a quaint old village where’ll you be afforded incredible views of Machhapuchhre (6993m) and many peaks of the Annapurna Massif.
You’ll have some spectacular views of Machhapuchhre from the village of Ghandruk.
Why you should do this trek
The Annapurna Circuit has to rank as one of the best treks in the world, mostly because it offers relatively easy access to some of the highest mountains in the world. The trek is light on the wallet, especially if you intend to walk unassisted, and the depth and range of scenery is unrivalled.
Is Annapurna Circuit on your bucket list? If so, why?

Mother’s Day in Hollywood

Mother’s Day weekend is once again upon us and in the words of Distinctive Assets founder, Lash Fary, it is a time to “celebrate motherhood, family and a life well lived.” Fary and his L.A. based marketing team, will once again pamper a select group of 25 celebrity moms by producing and distributing their annual Mother’s Day in Hollywood Gift Bags.
This year’s list of famous moms, who will be treated to little luxuries like Swedish skincare products from Skogen and personal training sessions with celebrity trainer Alexis Seletzky, includes Rachel McAdams, Eva Longoria, Claire Danes, Kristin Davis, Cardi B, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Mara, Jordin Sparks, Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, Kelli Giddish, Diane Kruger, Erika Christensen, Cush Jumbo, America Ferrera, Kate Hudson, Yvonne Strahovski, Julia Stiles, Rachel Platten, Jessica Simpson, Gabrielle Union, Amy Schumer, Carrie Underwood, Krysten Ritter and Mamie Gummer.
Here are the innovative products and services that will be featured in the Mother’s Day in Hollywood Gift Bag for 2019. As Fary says, it is hoped that they will make parenting easier or … pamper and soothe after a stressful day. And don’t forget all the special mothers in your life, on Sunday May 12th.
