I’ve shared these on Discord but decided I wanna share them here too. I know that most of my blog is SU/Paleontology related but I’m also a huge fan of Bionicle. And the Barraki are one of if not my favorite wave of sets from the entire theme. So a while back I wanted to rework them to highlight how bizarre and wonderful they were. Also some size comparisons between them and my Nocturn set!

Pridak is my fav of this bunch but I’m honestly proud of all of them. Tell me which is your fav!

Creeps from the Deep

Got into a Barraki mood again and started thinking about the different ways each of them had commanders/lietnuants, thoughts below.

Pridak: His main commanders would be the Silver Knights, four powerful warriors each deeply loyal to him. They'd basically be a take of the "Four Heavenly Kings" trope, when a major antagonist has a group of main underlings that are their closest and most powerful subordinates. In addition to Silver Knights, he'd have dozens of other commanders and lietnuants as subordinates, but they are less important in status.

Ehlek: Again has a few commanders that he's deeply close with, but unlike Pridak I would think those are the only major commanders he has because he doesn't trust anyone else.

Carapar: Stuck between if he should have a small group of powerful lietnuants or moreso myriad of them. Could See either way.

Takadox: Doesn't have any close allies or lietnuants, but instead myriad of servants, including commanders to his army. Isn't close with any of them and has possibly even hypnotized most to do his bidding. Perhaps even a few worship him as a god.

Kalmah: Has commanders but not anyone deeply close because of how cold and detached he is. That said I kinda can see him having some kind of snively chancelor as a right hand man, feels in character.

Mantax: Has no major commanders because Mantax doesn't trust anyone. Minor commanders maybe but not sure?

welcome back to humanized bionicles today the menu has Creepers from the Deepers (yet to be creepified), unwilling inhabitants of Australia-But-Worse's Atlantis, and flying kids who beat the shit out of each other in the heart of God

i once again used up too much space in the tags so here i am makin notes again bc im stupid

the Barraki were canonically handsome before getting locked down in Underwater Fort Knox so thats why they look like that (hopefully) look vaguely attractive

Ehlek has Big Pupils bc he has animal-like eyes (very little visible sclera) and his hair is more like lil spikes or fins he can pull up

the philosophy for Pridak was "Sidorak WISHES he was him"

i know the Mahri Nui matoran are always in bubbles but fuck it floaty hair babeyyyy

much like Voya Nui matoran they have scars from Karzhani

unlike all other matoran the Av-Matoran do share somatic traits: long noses, arched upper lips, thin eyes with flat lower eyelids, and very curly hair. they also all have a strand of hair braided

With thorough research i found that it could realistically be this guy

I'm not 100% sure but it looks like the most like what I vaguely remember, but the dates check out, i would have been 12 when I had it

So, since a lot of people are talking about their experience with having Barbies in their youth, i'll tell you about my Trans Barbie!

So, I had a lot of dolls, some were actual Barbies from Mattel, some were knockoffs, like Tania (an italian doll with rubber arms and a removable head) and some were actually not even Barbie shaped like a terrible Bratz knockoff. And Kens too of course.

The problem was that i didnt have enough male dolls to pair with my female dolls: i had California Ken, but he was obviously California Barbie's boyfriend. I had an Action Man but since he was supposed to stay on a boat he had his arms locked in a driving position and couldnt hug Barbies (but was perpetually half naked at least). I had a poor Ken that lost its head at some point, a very tragic death for my Barbie canon and a Max Steel who was actually amazing because he had a lot of bendable joints, he could even bend wrists and ankles (he could hug Barbies so he was top tier). And that's all. I even had to pair the Bratz knockoff with a Bionicle and another with a Godzilla toy.

So one day i tought: "Well, one of my Barbies must become a Ken, then!" I took one of them, i don't remember what model it was (she was black with straight hair but she wasn't Christie because I had one and their faces where different, she looked younger and had smaller features. I chose her because I didn't have a black Ken and i believe they werent around much to begin with back then), cut the hair short and put on Ken's clothes. But of course they didn't fit, the body was too small, so I wrapped her in some paper tape masking her breasts and waist, made her hands bigger and tried to glue some of her hair on the face to make a goatee (didn't work sadly).

And in my mind he wasn't a Barbie anymore, he became a really cute Ken and I treated him as such for the time being, making him hook up with Barbies and all.

It was almost 20 years ago but since my parents never taught me homophobia, it was a normal thing to do, you know? They were just amused by my craftiness and didn't say anything about it. I wish i'd kept him, i gave all of my Barbies away in my angsty teen phase but I really regret it now.

A Fun Fact About Sharks

The condition is known as Tonic Immobility. For some sharks and rays, flipping them upside down can temporarily paralyze them.

Through their journey to find the fabled Mask of Life, the Toa Mahri find themselves face-to-face with the dreaded Barraki. After a short but fierce battle, the Barraki make off with the mask, leaving the Toa Mahri to gather their strength for another battle. The Barraki, in the mist of victory, are too unfocused to see the threat approaching. With a burst of noise and explosion, Hydroxen rushes in after unloading his Cordak blaster into the unsuspecting Barraki. With Mantax and Carapar laying lifeless on the muddy sea floor, the remaining Barraki flee. Now desperate to reclaim their prize, the Barraki gather to scheme near the shore of Voya Nui. While Pridak and Takadox argue amongst themselves, Kelma notices a stranger on the shore of Voya Nui. Approaching him with caution, he hears the stranger call to him. He introduces himself as Vezon, guardian of the Mask of Life. After sharing tales of their battles with the Toa Ignika/Mahri, Vezon strikes up a deal with Kelma, offering to lend him his powerful Spear of Fusion in return for the Barraki retrieving the mask for him. With no intention of returning the mask, Kelma agrees and takes Vezon's spear. After telling the others the news, they head back to the cave where they left Carapar and Mantax. Using the Spear of Fusion on the two, they merge into a new being of greater power than the two had separately. Now a new Barraki is born, calling himself Sesarma Tridentus. Now ready to fight once more, the Barraki head out of their cave in search of Hydroxen.
