The Guardians of the Galaxy were formed in the anthology comic Marvel Super-Heroes Presents 18 with a cover date of January, 1969. The issue introduced Charlie-27, Major Vance Astro, Martinex, Yondu, Maz, Maul, Muer, Yur, Drang, Betina Marsh, the Badoons, the Eastern Zone Council, and Hound-Hawks who were created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan.
