Inspired by the most recent Instagram post by @dear-reader-letters (check out the page to see the personalized character letters).

Bradley always has had his troubles, daddy issues from his dad dying at a young age, facing struggles at school, only really remembering Goose through Carole and Mavs stories. Not to mention after Carole dies and Mav pulls his papers from the academy. Anyway, while hearing this part of the song “The Sun to me” by Zach Bryan, it struck me as a saying that Carole would tell Bradley when he was younger.

“Find someone who grows flowers in the darkest parts of you”

I feel like this quote from Carole would stick in his head for years, and possibly when he finds that one perfect person in his life who completes him he realizes that they are the person who sees his troubles and his “darkest parts” and still chooses him to grow flowers.

Bradley was named Bradley because Goose thought it was funny. Carole was no pushover, obviously, she found it just as— if not more— funny as her husband did. Bradley Bradshaw, it’s kind of ridiculous to think about. So the name Bradley holds no sentimental value in the Bradshaw family. But his middle name, oh, that meant something. Peter. When Goose had told Maverick he’d nearly cried while Carole laughed quietly at her husband and his best friend. It was the same time he’d asked Maverick to be Bradley’s godfather. So Maverick had stayed with him, all through his life, even when he wasn’t there. When he walked the stage at graduation, just a year after Maverick pulled his papers, Bradley Peter Bradshaw, and then again when he graduated from the naval academy, Bradley Peter Bradshaw. A silent, ever-present reminder of his uncle Pete, of how close he had been with his father. So it’s not such a surprise when he and Jake have their first kid, a boy, Nicholas Peter Bradshaw-Seresin. His name a silent, ever-present reminder of the important people in his life, and the one he never got to meet.
