Fairy Tail: Smartest Character Headcannons

No one asked, but I wanted to elaborate on my characterization of the "smart" characters in the Fairy Tail fanfiction. These are just in chronological order.

Zeref Dragneel: One must imagine boy-genius mixed with a teenage moron. By that I mean this man is so smart when it comes to science, math, history, language, health, magic - but he's a dumbass when it comes to literally anything else.

Feats: He's a genius

Discovered ethernanos and then created a whole race to combat both dragons and gods. Literally a pinnacle of magic theory and development: all ethernanos studies stem from his initial discovery

On that note, he's actually the one who coined the phrase "magic container". He discovered different individuals had different-sized internal containers for holding mana. Most progress in magic deficiency syndrome can be attributed to him

Created several forms of enchantment magic

BUILT A FUCKING TIME MACHINE

Perfected the making and using of lacrimas, whose development can also be tied back to him.

Does strategize incredibly well, if he has the time to think everything through. He likes being thorough and so prefers to make an all-inclusive plan. As you'll see his plans are bat-shit wild and complicated because the man doesn't like loose ends, and also his opponent is MAVIS. Bro can't afford to slip up. I'd say more, but I'd spoil the story -

Weaknesses: He's literally so stupid sometimes

Makes a time machine, it requires a celestial mage to activate it: the celestial wizard dies. Man leaves all twelve keys in the grass where they are lost to space and time. Whoops, no more working time machine.

Literally everything that he did after Mavis died. Literally all of that.

Actively picks fights with Acnologia

Actively pick fights with Natsu

Picks the aforementioned fights and then feels BAD when the fight happens. LIKE BRO -

Anna Heartfilia: Math smart (high-level physics and theoretical calculus), and a strategist/leader. She was privately tutored as a child and had celestial spirits to teach her.

Feats: Math and leadership

Wrote most of the calculations for interdimensional travel when Zeref was building the Eclipse Gate

Is pretty good with calculating angles on the spot, and is fairly accurate when estimating distances (this is a big deal when you're directing spirits with mass destructive power and using abilities that are distance-limited)

Unlike Mavis' strategist side, Anna's strength in strategy was in rehearsing and forethought. She would practice with her spirits on what to do in high-stress situations so they would all know how to react and who to work with. In all honesty, her ability to lead her spirits was what made her so useful on the battlefield.

Practiced for years subdividing her magic container and memorizing how much energy she'd need to summon ALL TWELVE GOLDEN KEYS AT ONCE -

Weaknesses: One must imagine a chaotic perfectionist two seconds away from a nuclear breakdown

Gets too focused on things and will stay up all night. Will forget to eat and drink, in fact.

A perfectionist - will not stop until her calculations make sense

H A T E S writing, spelling, language, etc. Keep that shit away from her

When backed into a corner, and none of her strategies work her next plan is quite literally: RANDOM BULLSHIT GO -

Acnologia: Bro may be illiterate but he's also an actual genius when it comes to magic. Street smarts > School smarts, because fucked up mentors don't send their human weapon to school.

Feats: Anything magic related. I'm not exaggerating. And funny enough, grammar, vocabulary, diction, etc...

Picked up several human languages fairly quickly and has taught himself to read.

An actual GOD when it comes to enchantments and rune recognition, NO ONE knows more than this man

His knowledge on magic is CRAZY, this man can smell what type of magic you use, deduce whether it be elemental, reactionary, or application, and then IMMEDIATELY figure out how to counter it.

Even if he can't EAT the magic you're using, he knows. He knows what to do. You're cooked.

Thinking and strategizing on the spot is literally his thing. He's a terrifying opponent because he's insanely strong AND insanely good at reading his opponents

Weaknesses: Cannot do math

In all fairness, man did not go to school so all academic areas are a lil hard to grasp when you're over three hundred years old

Old man dilemmas: man can and will disarm a seventy-layer enchantment in thirty seconds but PLEASE do not ask him how to use the newfangled screen lacrimas. He bought those for the children and never touched them again -

His options in any social environment are (a) constant sarcasm, (b) ignoring everyone he doesn't know or like, (c) leaving, or (d) leaving, but faster.

Mavis Vermillion: The greatest strategist there ever has been. This is canonical but let's just elaborate shall we. The gal basically had a decade of university-level studies under her belt when she was fifteen. Girl learned to read by opening up Sun Tzu and memorizing it.

Feats:

Won the Trade Wars. I'm not kidding. This is canon. In the fanfiction though, she won the trade wars and didn't ask Acnologia to participate at all, because she literally didn't need him. She is the SOLE reason Fiore is still a country

Her level of strategic comprehension and quick thinking is terrifying. She actively runs simulations in her head, and thanks to her illusion magic (which makes her a god at multitasking), she can predict several outcomes to a TERRIFYING level of accuracy within an insanely short amount of time.

Even if you catch her by surprise (big "if" there, buddy) she's not pre-planning dependent or easily stunned. She can and will have another plan before you can register that you did something good.

GOD LEVELS of poker face when necessary (canon)

Now, thanks to the curse, she can emotionally detach from most conflicts and make riskier and riskier plays to attain victory. The ability to remove her emotion from plans only makes her that much more terrifying

Weaknesses: The poorest loser to ever lose

Literally hates losing. Will not stand for it. Will demand a rematch

She hates surprises and also hates any information that she deems useless. She will and has lectured spies over what counts as "good" intel.

Detaching from your emotions is not always the best thing to do when your "pawns" are your family and friends, but in all fairness when you have Ankserham's curse, it's kind of for the best to leave those affections aside. Still sucks though, and will cause problems

Natsu Dragneel: The man, the myth, the legend himself. No one has the brain for fighting like this fucking idiot.

Feats: FIGHT

Literally can fight without thinking. His subconscious is that in-tune with his body. Erik HATES him.

When he fights and thinks, his mind his canonically like a steel trap. He can pick up on patterns and weaknesses in his opponents that he will utilize. There's no mercy.

I don't usually include being underestimated in feats - but it's important here. Natsu's so good at what he does, it's easy to mistake strategy for raw power, or even dumb luck. Enemies go in thinking they're fighting some arrogant asshole and then get absolutely annihilated by the combat strategist himself

Pain is never a limiting factor. Natsu prevails.

Weaknesses: Bro has ONE brain cell and it flip-flops between wanting to eat and wanting to BRAWL

Focus is not his strong suit. ADHD poster child right here, he will be distracted if he is not locked in

Cannot read (like he can, but not really -)

Does not know how to multiply. DO NOT ask him what a quadratic is, he'll ask if he can eat it.

Can be a little arrogant, but he's kind of earned it

Someone he cares about is in danger? BRO IS GONE! Bro is not strategizing! Bro is IN THERE and no one can stop him. Bro will throw off all your plans and risk everyone else to save one person. It's all or nothing for him.

Like someone else we know, if he's backed in to a corner and doesn't know what to do, he falls back on "RANDOM BULLSHIT GO", but that random bullshit is usually just PUNCH THEM HARDER -

Ur Milkovich: A creative queen like no other. Her creativity in Ice-Make magic is indicative of just how out-of-the-box she can be. Such an ability is easily overlooked, but that creative tenacity IS a game-changer when you're mid-fight.

Feats: Other than just being the best fucking ice mage on the planet? She's cool about it.

Recognizes her own strengths and weaknesses. This may sound obvious but in a world of arrogance or false humility, Ur knows EXACTLY how good she is and what match-ups favor her, as well as which ones don't. Knowing that allows her to pick her fights very well.

Minor spoiler for the fanfic: She will be thinking up some CRAZY ass creative plans in the future. I'm talking chaotic-Ur-certified plans that will actually work. Perks of creative strategy.

You know how the ice mages typically specialize in a form of ice make, whether it be animals or weapons or armor? Yeah no. Ur has it all. Ur can do it all. Imagination? Ur has all of it -

Weaknesses:

She will compromise her strategy for her boys. As soon as Lyon and Gray are involved, all bets are off - she's going in whether it's a good idea or not. Normal Fairy Tail things.

She actually has a shit poker face. She cannot hide her thoughts at ALL

The smallest mention of calculus will get you turned into a popsicle. She'll suffer through science and history but as soon as the numbers get mentioned she's OUT.

Lucy Heartfilia: Quite literally the peak of adaptive learning. I will DIE on this hill

Feats: Lucy ACED every exam she ever took. Jack of trades, LITERALLY -

Her ability to pick up new magics or items and use them is nothing short of impressive. She's not afraid to leave her comfort zone and try something new.

A master at improvised weapons. Literally a M A S T E R-

She can be quick on her feet and has a great reaction time which lets her effectively pick the best spirit for the job. Her gut instincts are solid in battle.

She knows she has a smaller magic container and so is more limited in longevity and magic potential, which means she's very careful about her magic usage - as we've said, being aware of your weaknesses AND taking the steps you need to work around them counts as a strength.

Let's not forget canonically she REWROTE a book of Zeref after reading through it ONCE and learned how to cast Fairy Sphere after seeing it cast (kind of) ONCE

Photographic memory? Oh yeah, that's Lucy.

Knows when to make the tough calls (Aquarius' key)... enough said.

Weaknesses: Confidence and maybe some application

She doubts herself, a lot, and that is reflected in her hesitation to take action.

She hates putting her spirits in harm's way (which is hard to put in the weakness category cause that's literally just her being a good person but it does inhibit her ability to act efficiently as a celestial mage).

She recognizes that her magic container is not as large as those around her but can get too far in her head about how limited she is. Doubt is never a good thing.

Special mentions, in no particular order, I just don't have as many headcanons for them and this shit is getting long:

Erza Scarlet: Same vein as Natsu. Her ability to strategize in combat is INSANE. Realistically, she's actually ranked higher than Natsu because she can read, write, do math, pay bills, and also knows when to NOT run into a fight. But in battle, Natsu has her quick thinking and prowess beat, at least by the end of the series.

Levy McGarden: Same as Lucy, except she's taken photographic memory to the next level. Girl can remember the exact book, page, paragraph, and line number when recalling information. Perks of her magic but also just the perk of being that fucking brilliant. This is also apparent in her magic (which was nerfed in canon but will not be anymore because a BOOK LOVER being able to use ANY WORD is CRAAAAAZY).

Laxus Dreyar: He's here for his reaction time and quick thinking. It's insane. And, as seen in the Grimoire Heart act when he canonically gives his power to Natsu, he has a good foundation on magic pairings and can make sacrificial strategic plays. All in all, solid foundation for smarts and strategy.

Serena: Man has mastered 8 elements and can switch between them with no problem. That takes some brain power. He loses points for being an actual menace to society and picking a fight with Acnologia in his last life. Actually no, he loses points for being THAT arrogant in his first life and dying a single manga panel later.

Wendy Marvel: Has mastered not one, not two, but THREE forms of magic. Healing, Enchantment, AND Offensive. She quite literally has application magic (her enchantments and healing) and elemental magic (dragon slaying) and has mastered BOTH. She does, however, also struggle with confidence and her good nature means she hesitates before inflicting permanent harm.

Erik: Bro can handle reading five people's minds at once and has the multitasking ability anyone would be jealous of. Bro just gets a lil too angry and distracted sometimes. Can also get overwhelmed if he's experiencing a loud noise or a lot of noise. Really, he just loses points for those times when he gets too mad to listen to anything. He gains points back for having zero hesitation when necessary - man will decide someone's free warranty on life has expired with no remorse.

Special, Special Mentions:

Yajima: Man put up with Team Makarov's bullshit, Fairy Tail's bullshit, AND the Magic Council's bullshit without going insane. Is a lawyer by trade, and a friend of Makarov's by choice. That's crazy work right there.

Warrod: Has been committing tax fraud for over a century. Has never gotten caught.

Weisslogia: Was a strategist in the draconic wars and was pretty damn good at it. No, Sting did not inherit that lol.

Tyregenium (OC): Acnologia's master do be that evil sadistic strategist. He loses points for arrogance - and for losing to Acno twice and STILL coming back for more. Also crazy work right there.

Oh boy where do I even begin? What was happening last time you knew what was going on? Looks like you last posted briefly early January, but prior to that looks like you were pretty active up until the end of October, so I'll start from there I guess. If there's any backlore I mentioned that you missed just lmk.

After Kermit left the monastery / Alex burned it to the ground, Kermit went to Athena to do a ritual to restore his kins (they were all murdered via monk exorcism). Kermit and Milton dueled as a result of this, Athena tricked/brainwashed Kermit into marrying her (Athena made Kermit forcekin Jesus and Athena wanted to be the bride of Christ. She also tried to crucify him but Kermit returned to his senses before this). Kermit eventually got all of his kins back on his own, he ended up having to walk to Sara's house in Chicago to vore an Applejack figurine containing the spirit of his dead Kermit plushie to regain his Kermit kin.

Alex Thornton came out as trans and uses she/her now. Don't know if you were around when Mavis ( @fungus-of-death )and Alex were dating, but they broke up a few weeks in. Alex went on a divine quest to kill a vampire deep in the woods, but is now dating her. Her name is Sybil, her blog is @n0ctur4v4mp1r4.

Right now, Sara, Emily, and Sage are all still living together. Milton lives in CT with Gordon's mom.

Kermit hit his Grandma with a turkey on Thanksgiving in an attempt to hit his Uncle Steve. Kermit uses he/she/they/it pronouns now btw.

Kermit briefly had a job as an Assistant Manager at a KFC, but got fired after trying to write up a coworker for witchcraft/putting a curse on him. Kermit also moved out (again) and currently lives in an apartment in Ohio, the apartment complex is now contaminated with asbestos due to Kermit trespassing into the basement and breaking a seal.

Kermit also obtained a new Kermit plushie. He also now kins Dark Matt (Mullenweg)(CEO of Tumblr). Dark Matt kins Draco Malfoy, Kermit does not kin Draco Malfoy himself. Kermit kins Dark Matt, who kins Draco Malfoy.

That's the "main" storyline as of late. Another storyline, however, has been following the circle relaying to Mavis (who's a space wizard now) and Laika ( @butter-pie-enthusiast ), who Mavis is the legal guardian of. Laika's girlfriend, Birdie ( @my-blue-birdie ) had the curse of a beast on her, it was slowly turning her into a demon essentially. Laika got into a car crash while in the car with Laika's birth father and died. Birdie killed Laika's father (and presentably a bunch of cops). Birdie made a deal with @queen-decarabia went to hell to try to save Laika. Together they went through all stages of Hell, Birdie was nearly irreversibly turned fully into a demon (each time she'd be hurt, she'd be immediately healed via Demon Beast powers, and the demon part of her would spread more). They get out of Hell, and Birdie somehow becomes normal again

Uncle Mavis, it is one thing to need time for yourself. It's the whole reason I went on this vacation in the first place. But it's your choice of location that worries me. I know you're a space wizard, but what if something happens to you? There's nothing Laika and I can do in that scenario, and it's scary. I'm sorry if I'm making you feel unheard and misunderstood, I just don't want anything to happen.

I've been in space before Birdie. You know this. We were able to communicate pretty easily in space last time I was up there for an extended period and I was completely fine. I'm going to be fine this time. Please don't feel bad, but you have to understand this is not as big of a thing as everyone seems to think. The Date -Laxus x Oc

AHHHHHH I FINALLY FINISHED IT. I’ve legit been working on this for two days. *sigh* but its finally done! so I hope you enjoy it, its just some wholesome fluff I wanted to write.

                             “You have to win so we can go on a date!”

          That’s what I yelled at Laxus when he told me he was competing in the Grand Magic Games. Like the rest of the guild I was unaware of Gramps decision to have two teams apply. Laxus came to me after him and the rest of the team were dismissed to go pack for Crocus. With everything going on, both teams are determined to win for Fairy Tail, that doesn’t mean their isn’t a cloud of anxiety following them around however. So as Team B boarded the train, in a surge of confidence I yelled Laxus’s name and when he turned to me, I yelled that at him. Then I booked it follow the rest of the Guild. 

Throughout the entirety of the games, no one cheered louder for Laxus than me. I’m pretty sure at one point the Thunder Legion and I had a contest on who could be the best cheerleader for him. Through all the anxiety, the ups and downs.

         Fairy Tail won.

 We reclaimed our place as number one in Fiore. Of course I will never let go of the fact that Laxus beat Jura, a wizard saint! Someone that Mavis herself was unsure Laxus could beat. Then there was the eclipse gate fiasco. That was pretty stressful. I honestly didn’t think we’d make it out of that. So when the dragons disappeared and everyone had a chance to breathe it hit me. Not one of the dragons slayers had actually defeated a dragon. 

That realization set the mood back for a bit. Until the ball that is. Mira and Lucy coerced me into a beautiful yellow gown. Which was pretty embarrassing, but once I saw Laxus standing there in that prince-esque suit, I was glad I had went. He was pretty occupied the whole time so I ended up spending some time with Gajeel, and at one point Rogue. 

Towards the end though, Laxus had managed to escape the hoard of women and asked me to dance. I didn’t really know how but I accepted. At one point he pulled me close to him and whispered in my ear.

        “I haven’t forgotten my promise.”

I was confused at first, but then he repeated what I had yelled to him before the games. My face turned as pink as Natsu’s hair and I started to stutter out an excuse. Only for him to chuckle at me spin me around. 

Which leads us to now. It’s about three hours until Laxus said he was coming to get me. Attempting to decide what to wear is the hardest part. Just sitting in my room in nothing but a towel isn’t working. I looked at the clock for what felt like the hundredth time in five minutes. Then there was a knock on my door. Opening it revealed Cana, Mira, Lucy and Juvia. 

Once they where inside they unloaded their hands showing the supplies they had brought. Cana turned to me, “Sorry it took so long, had to wait for Kinana to show up.” Then we go to work. Lucy summoned Cancer to do my hair and Mira started to look at accessories. Cana and Juvia began to argue over my clothes. Cana kept suggesting a more scandalize outfit, whereas Juvia went for a more mature look. 

          “Oh! What about this?”

Mira was holding up a teal dress I forgot I had. It was a spaghetti strap with white clouds on the bottom of the dress. A collective gasp was heard in the room. Lucy held up a black jacket that was rolled up to the elbow and was only waist high. Then Juvia pulled out my black boots. Putting on the outfit, I knew this was the one. Cancer put my hair up two small sections of hair into space buns and curled the rest to make it wavy. 

Outfit completed the girls sat with me to talk since I still had an hour until go time. It was nice, I hadn’t had time to spend much time with Lucy since the games ended. There was a knock on the door and I realized we had been sitting around for fourty minutes. Opening the door I saw Laxus. 

“Sorry I’m kinda early. I may have been slightly overzealous.” Giggling at him as he awkwardly rubbed his neck, red tinting the tips of his ears and cheeks. I turned to my shelves on the wall and grabbed my bag, which I had packed the night before. 

“We can head out now if you want? I’m actually already to go.”

He agreed and held his hand out for me. I quickly grabbed it and moved out the door, then wrapped my arm around his. The girls had poked their head into the doorway with cheesy grins on their face. Saying goodbye, we began to walk towards Magnolia. I lived on the outskirts in a little cabin I bought when I was younger. I turned to the man on my right. 

“So where are we going?”

“Can’t tell you.” 

“Keeping secrets?”

“Maybe I am. Gotta make our first date memorable don’t I?”

Hearing him so confidently stating this as our first date made me instantly flustered and with a squeak I looked down, face flushing pink. He lead us into a bakery, one I happen to frequent. 

“Pick out any cake you want.” Was what he said. So I did, I picked a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting, and cute sunflowers designed on it. Reaching to pull out some jewel to pay, I was quickly stopped when Laxus handed the cashier the payment. “We’re on a date remember? Besides when have I ever let you pay for anything with me?”

We left with the cake, and while he carried it with one hand, he held mine with his other one. As we walked I continued to question where we were going. He would just give me a silly answer each time.

“Are we going to the guild?”

“With the chaos that goes on every five minutes? They mess up the cake.”

“The Cathedral?”

“Pretty sure we’d be flocked by tourists as soon as we stepped through the door.”

“Your place?”

“On the first date? Nelly I’m a gentleman.”

Laughing at his reply we settled into a comfortable silence. Just taking in the nice weather and enjoying each others company. 

Soon we came up towards the woods. I looked up at Laxus skeptically, and he chuckled at me. Unlatching our hands he stood in front of me for a moment. 

“I wanted to make today special, but I also figured neither of us wanted to deal with crowds at restaurants and train rides. So I figured this was a good activity instead. Let me know if you hate it okay?” 

Then he held his hand out for me again and I gladly took it, though I was a bit worried now. Leading my into the line of trees we walked for about six minutes until was arrived at a clearing. There was lights hung in the trees and in the middle of the clearing was a large blanket laid out with a bunch of food. I let go of his hand and walked towards it a bit then stopped about five paces from him. He set up a picnic, with pretty lights, and my favorite foods and snacks, he even bought me a cake. I turned to him with tears in my eyes.

“Why are you crying?! Did I do something wrong? Do you not like it? We can do something else?”

“Laxus you dummy! It’s perfect! How did you even do all this?” 

“Well I had some help.”

Seeing that I liked the picnic he planned he calmed down a bit, only for nervousness to settle in. 

“I’m actually surprised you managed to get us back here. You normally have a hard time navigating with out big landmarks.”

“Hey atleast I’m not distracted by cute fluffy things, or shiny things.” 

Huffing I turned back to the picnic. 

“I mean it y’know. I love it. Thank you.”

He smiled and laced our hands together again.

“Then lets make the most of it.”

So we did. We ate our food and talked. Telling stories of his time in exile, and stories of the guild, even reminiscing on when we were kids. We ended up laying down on the blanket at one point. Just looking at the stars. 

“And over here is the big dipper, then if you go this way- Hey what are you looking at?”

As I was showing him what constellations were in the sky I had turned to look at him, only to see him staring at me. He turned towards me fully and sat up a bit, hovering over me. Placing his hand on my cheek, he smiled. Not a smirk or a grin, a bright smile.  

“Laxus?” I was starting to get flustered again. My cheeks were burning from how hot they were. As he slowly leaned down towards me, I saw something shine in the sky. Turning my attention to the sky I saw it. Laxus had moved back and sat close to my side, also looking at the sky. They were fireworks. Bright and beautiful, and as we sat watching the colorful display, I felt Laxus pull me towards him. 

Snuggling up to him, I realized I never wanted this moment to end. I didn’t want to go back to my house and sleep in my cold empty bed. Or wake up in a empty house and make breakfast for one. I wanted Laxus. I wanted Laxus to come home with me at the end of every night. I wanted Laxus to cuddle with me in bed at night. I wanted to wake up to Laxus’s face every morning and make him breakfast before he had to go on a job. 

Though for now, this was enough. The fireworks ended, after about ten minutes. So we both reluctantly moved apart.

“I should get you home.”

“Okay.”

So we cleaned up the picnic and as we went to leave, I wrapped my hand around his upper arm. He smiled at that and we made our way back to my house. Neither of us talked, falling into a comfortable silence. When we made it to the house, I stopped on the top step after I unlocked and opened the door. 

“I had a great time tonight.”

“So did I.”

“Maybe we could do this again?”

“We are definitely doing this again.”

“Cool.”

After a moment I realized we were both just standing there staring at each other. 

“Oh right. Time to go inside.”

Turning to go inside, I was suddenly stopped when he stepped toward me. I was about to ask what was wrong when he placed his hand on my cheek, and softly kissed the opposite one. He held it for a couple seconds before stepping back again. I gingerly placed my fingertips on where he kissed me. My face was definitely red now. 

“Night Nelly. See you tomorrow at the Guild.”

“Yeah.”

Chuckling he left. And I stood there frozen on my doorstep for a moment longer. Then booked it inside and threw myself onto the bed, squealing. 

“Yeah we’re definitely going on another date soon.”

I stopped paying attention to the croaker verse for finals and now I am so lost and am turning to you because I see you as like the croaker guru or some shit, what is going on with everything since like Alexandria was reborn? Is there a vampire? Did mavis go to space? Are you a canon character now? Who are all these other guys you are interacting with what are their roles and arcs I am just so very lost.

Ok I’ll try my best with this.

Alexandria was reborn and then started hunting a vampire in the woods. Her name is Sybil and the two of them are dating now.

I am a “canon character” (whatever that means, all of this is obviously real and happening), and Sybil introduced me to Victoria who is another vampire. We’re dating now.

There was a hunter named Vahn trying to track Sybil down, but Mavis and I (along with the army of twinks and lesbians) trapped him in a closet. Then we talked to him, became friends, and let him out.

Originally he was going to kill Sybil but eventually with me as the head negotiator they agreed to a compromise: Sybil would only eat rich people.

A new person named Birdie showed up, I view her like a little sister now. Vahn took her on a hunt and she came over to my one for Thanksgiving. Her and Laika are dating.

There was another vampire too, Chris. He started following Birdie in the woods and it turns out he’s her uncle on her mom’s side. Her mom is dead and now watches over her as a bird, but Chris started taking care of her.

Vahn went on a bit of a rampage and Chris was sent after him. They started living together and fell in love. Vahn got hurt at one point and Chris was taking care of him.

I got cursed by a book from Vahn’s library and had to be saved by him and Birdie. I was slowly corrupted over a couple of weeks and would’ve died if they hadn’t burned it. I was changed by that experience, something is wrong with my shadow and my fingertips are permanently stained by something dark, like pitch or ink.

Mavis went to space and became a space wizard. Laika turned himself into a cat and Mavis went to figure out how to change him back.

Chris’s sire, Ambrose, tortured him over decades and then started a cult. Eric went in because he wanted people to pay attention to him. Since Vahn was hurt more while saving me and I was recovering, Sybil sent Mavis in to try to stop Ambrose from hurting people. Mavis was almost killed.

The kids (Laika, Birdie, Zach, and some others) went in to try to save Eric and Mavis. There were a lot of casualties, Alex went full wolf and tore through a lot of innocent cult members. Then she was captured along with Birdie, who sacrificed herself so the others could leave.

Chris left Vahn to try and help. He came back, but the damage was done.

The next day Birdie won. She killed Ambrose, but I don’t know exactly how because that was the day Vahn deactivated. He left Chris and I without a goodbye to go live in his dark and evil bog. That’s not entirely true, he tried to say goodbye to me, but deactivated before I saw it.

That really hurt, so I took some time away. In that time I think Birdie was corrupted by something but she got better. She’s also 17 now!!

Recently (since I’ve been back) I think Milton left Gordon and ran to the woods. Gordon went evil but then got better. Vahn was talking to Chris, who was crushed and heartbroken, until Vahn’s phone died in the bog. Chris rebranded and now reblogs a lot of Sanrio. Good for him.

Birdie and Laika are on vacation. Mavis wants to go back into space.

I think that’s everything? Sorry for being unclear on the end of the cult stuff, after Vahn left I turned off notifications for a couple weeks. I’ve also been working full time and am about to be a full time student again so I’m SWAMPED

Fairy Tail

The world of Earth-land is home to numerous guilds where wizards[a] apply their magic for paid job requests. Natsu Dragneel, a Dragon Slayer wizard from the Fairy Tail guild, explores the Kingdom of Fiore in search of his missing adoptive father, the dragon Igneel. During his journey, he befriends a young celestial wizard named Lucy Heartfilia and invites her to join Fairy Tail. Lucy forms a team with Natsu and his cat-like Exceed partner, Happy, which is joined by other guild members: Gray Fullbuster, an ice wizard; Erza Scarlet, a magical knight; and Wendy Marvell and Carla, another Dragon Slayer and Exceed duo. The team embark on numerous missions together, which include subduing criminals, illegal dark guilds, and ancient Etherious demons created by Zeref, a wizard cursed with immortality and deadly power.

After several adventures, Natsu and his companions find Zeref living in isolation on Fairy Tail's sacred ground of Sirius Island,[2] where he expresses a desire to die for the atrocities he has committed. A battle over Zeref ensues between Fairy Tail and the dark guild Grimoire Heart, which attracts the attention of the evil black dragon Acnologia. The Fairy Tail wizards survive Acnologia's assault when the spirit of their guild's founder and Zeref's estranged lover, Mavis Vermillion, casts the defensive Fairy Sphere spell that places them into seven years of suspended animation. Later, Fairy Tail wages war against the Etherious dark guild Tartaros, who aim to unseal a book believed to contain E.N.D., Zeref's ultimate demon. When Acnologia returns to annihilate both guilds, Igneel – revealed to have sealed himself within Natsu – emerges to battle Acnologia, only to be killed in front of a helpless Natsu, who departs on a training journey to avenge Igneel.

After Natsu returns one year later, Fiore is invaded by the Alvarez Empire, a military nation ruled by Zeref, who intends to acquire Fairy Heart, a wellspring of infinite magic power housed within Mavis's equally cursed body preserved beneath Fairy Tail's guildhall. While battling Zeref, Natsu is informed of his own identity as both Zeref's younger brother and the true incarnation of E.N.D. (Etherious Natsu Dragneel), whom Zeref resurrected as a demon with the intention of being killed by him. When Natsu fails to do so, Zeref absorbs Fairy Heart from Mavis in a bid to rewrite the present timeline with one where he might prevent his own curse and Acnologia's rise to power. After Natsu defeats Zeref to stop the drastic changes to history his actions would create, Mavis lifts her and Zeref's curse by reciprocating his love, which kills them both.

Meanwhile, Fairy Tail and their allies detain Acnologia within a space-time rift created by the use of Eclipse, Zeref's time travel gate. However, Acnologia escapes while his disembodied spirit traps all of the present Dragon Slayers within the rift to maintain his godlike power. Lucy and the other wizards across the continent immobilize Acnologia's body within Fairy Sphere, while Natsu accumulates the other Dragon Slayers' magic and destroys Acnologia's spirit, killing him and freeing the Dragon Slayers from captivity. The following year, Natsu and his team depart on a century-old guild mission,[3] continuing their adventures together.

Oh, what to pick! Really, I have nothing but secondary stories, as I’m always flitting from this to that and that to this as the mood takes me!

Ultimately I’d have to say my perennial ‘I’ve really got to do something with this’ pet project of Proper Schooling, an idea I’ve had for so long that it’s basically unrecognizable from whatever it was when I first had it.

So yes, Proper Schooling.

Basically, there’s a school in a forest. It’s a nightmare. It’s the size of a town and no-one ever leaves. The expelled pupils have formed tribes that live in the trees and ride magnadeer (whatever those are, it’s unclear). There’s a library with one of the nails of creation in it, possibly. There’s a girl who turns people into paint to capture their likeness forever. It’s a mess.

One day, the cloned son of a, uh, shall we say a prominent pupil is required by his insane clone father (who is also a building made up of stolen bits of other buildings) to dispose of his clone sister, because his clone father only makes sons so clearly this is a mistake.

Surprise! She’s not dead. Now they have to try and...

...something. Escape? I forget. They bump into another kid who’s an educational saboteur who was dropped from a plane for not being photogenic enough.

#25 Alvarez Empire Arc Plot

Fairy Tail is made up of a total of 21 arcs that are connected to each other in some way. I wish I could go through all the arcs, but it would be very long and way too complicated to try and shorten it, so I will explain the last arc of the story and my favorite arc as well. Before I explain this arc, I will give you some background information about a very important enemy in this arc. There is an infamous dark and “evil” wizard known as Zeref and is known to kill people without touching them. Hundreds of years ago, Zeref was an ordinary student at a school learning about magic. During that time, he lost his brother and began to ask his professors about magic that could bring back the dead. The professors told him that dark magic was a taboo and life or death was not to be tampered with. Zeref was desperate to bring his brother back and ended up developing a dark magic that could bring back the dead and create demons of sorts in a book called the Book of Zeref. His two strongest demons that he created to practically be invincible were Acnologia, an evil dragon and E.N.D, which remained unknown because no one knew who or what E.N.D was. However the consequence of this power was that he would become invincible and everything he cared for would die if it were in a certain distance from him. Zeref ended up becoming emotionless in order to not kill any life if it came in contact with him and just continued to live through the years. One day he grew tired of being invincible and started to create demons that could hopefully kill him and end his time of being invincible. Now that the past is covered, let’s talk about the Alvarez Empire. The Alvarez Empire is a mixture of Zeref’s demons and other dark wizards that look up to Zeref. Their goal was to retrieve a magic called Fairy Heart to help them destroy Acnologia and start a war between a dragon, Acnologia, and humans. To make a long story short, Fairy Tail fights the Alvarez Empire to stop them from taking the Fairy Heart and we find out one of the members of the Alvarez Empire is Erza’s biological mother and she ends up fighting her, but her mom ends up stabbing herself because even though she had so much resentment for her and killed many people, she loved her daughter and couldn’t kill her so she ends up killing herself. We also find out that Natsu is E.N.D or Etherious Natsu Dragneel, and his Zeref’s “dead” brother. Apparently their parents died in an accident along with Natsu, and once he revived Natsu, he gave him to Igneel to take care of him instead. Natsu battles with Zeref and tries to kill him, but as he battles him, he can’t kill him. Happy ends up interfering in the battle and stops Natsu from using his E.N.D power to kill Zeref because if he kills Zeref then all of Zeref’s demons, including Natsu, will die with him and Happy doesn’t want to lose his best friend. Natsu passes out and we find out he is dying because he has some kind of magic tumor in him that is killing the human side of himself. He is saved by an enemy wizard that was captured and was willing to make his tumor so small that it would never harm again. As Natsu was healed, Zeref ends up obtaining Fairy Heart, which we find out is the First master’s body, Mavis, surrounded in a crystal and she is between life and death. By having the Fairy Heart, Zeref will use this power to initiate Neo Eclipse, which would give him the power to manipulate space and time in order to kill Acnologia from their world. As all of this is happening, the rest of Fairy Tail is fighting with Acnologia and trying to get him in a portal that is between space and time to get rid of him as well, but their portal is closed because Zeref opened up a different portal at the Fairy Tail guild. Natsu begins to attack Zeref again and is actually starting to do damage to him, but Mavis ends up interfering, her body was removed from the crystal and she was still alive, and tells Zeref that she knows how to get rid of his curse and end his invincibility. Turns out back when Mavis was alive, she would meet with Zeref and they were in love with each other. However, Mavis back then found a way to “break the curse” but it ended up killing her instead of Zeref because she didn’t “love” him. At the time, Mavis didn’t really understand love and her feelings towards Zeref, but as time went on, she realized and understood her feelings and actually really loved Zeref. So Mavis ends up kissing Zeref and breaks his curse, but they both end up dying together. Once Zeref died, Natsu was supposed to die, but it turns out that Lucy found Natsu’s book, the Book of Zeref for E.N.D, and rewrote the book to where Natsu wouldn’t die if Zeref died. The portal at Fairy Tail closes and the one where everyone else is with Acnologia reopens and they are able to get Acnologia into that dimension. In order to keep Acnologia in that dimension, all the dragon slayers come together to weaken Acnologia to the point where he wouldn’t chase after them and they could get out of the dimension and close the portal before Acnologia can get back up. They ended up defeating Acnologia and finally the world is in peace. Everyone is happy at the end and what I found really heart-warming was that Zeref and Mavis were reborn into their world as normal wizards and were finally together happily and peacefully. A lot happened in this arc so I hope I covered mostly everything, but honestly I loved reading this story and I’m excited to hear that they are making a new series and continuing with these characters, but for a different quest and reason.

The summer 2019 season has some great series. From fire starters to family curses this anime season has many great stories. Here are a few of the anime I am watching:

Fire Force

They aren’t your average firemen fighting your average fire. In the Fire Force universe some building fires are caused by fire demons, and the best people to fight them is the Fire Force made up of specialty firefighter, Nuns (the religious kind), and pyrokineticist members who fight these demons. Fire Force follows Shinra Kusakabe and the other members of Special Fire Force Company 8 as they fight the demons and investigate the other Special Fire Force divisions for their illegal actions. At an unspecified point in the future, world sea levels have risen and the world is in a shambles. The rising sea levels have been carving up continents and causing the disappearance of many countries. Japan is now much smaller with people gathered within the small Tokyo Empire where the Holy Sol Temple and Haijma Industries have developed the Amaterasu, perpetual thermal energy plant. In the year 198 of the Solar Era in Tokyo, special fire brigades called the Fire Force fight increasing incidents of spontaneous human combustion where humans beings are turned into living infernos called "Infernals" (焰ビト Homura Bito). Fairy Tail: The Final Series

Fairy Tail follows the adventures of Lucy Heartfilia, Natsu Dragniel, Gray Fullbuster, Erza Scarlet, Wendy Marvell, Happy and Carla, the rest of the Fairy Tail guild, and their friends as they fight for their lives, home, country, and their survival against the Alvarez empire, and their evil emperor Zeref. Fruits Basket (Season 1)

Fruits Basket follows Tohru Honda, an orphaned highschool student, as she navigates her life living in the house of the famous author Shigure Soma and her housemates Yuki and Kyo Soma, as she learns of the Soma family curse. As the story continues she manages to help every member of the Soma family get over their social problems, anxieties, and the family’s internal strife defeating the Soma family curse. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia: 

When high school student Tohru Honda's mother dies in a car crash, Tohru decides to live with her grandfather. Renovations on the house and unsupportive and unkind family members cause her to move out of her grandfather's house temporarily and, since she has nowhere else to go, Tohru begins living in a tent and supporting herself. That is, until she finds a home in the least likely of places, inhabited by her popular classmate Yuki Soma and his cousin Shigure. The first day Tohru moves into the Soma house, an orange haired teenager crashes through the roof of her new bedroom and starts attacking Yuki. When Tohru discovers the Somas' secret, she promises not to tell and is allowed to keep living with them. Although the Somas' curse is deeper and darker than Tohru realized, her presence and her acceptance of them soon becomes a large, positive influence on those possessed by the zodiac. Schedule Changes

In the first 2 weeks of September, NEET Designs will be closing so that I can facilitate systems upgrades and backups to files. That means no artwork for the first week of September. I will still try to post articles as usual. This scheduled closing may change as we are waiting on parts, and with my busiest season coming up everything is in flux.

Rereading the Fairy Tail manga for research purposes, so having reached a little past chapter 100, here’s impressions:

-Natsu’s not a complete idiot

-He’s just a mostly thoughtless one who doesn’t see destruction as a bad thing or as something to avoid. Hence why he doesn’t try to limit it

-He’s actually bad at intentionally trying to destroy things. Accidentally however...

-Dragon Slayer Magic is technically using an Enchantment to temporarily transform parts of a person’s body to be like a dragon’s. Which makes sense considering an Enchanter made it.

-Considering that magic can change a person’s body in various ways, accidentally making it possible to turn into a dragon should have been expected.

-Actually considering that due to Lacrima, Cobra and Laxus don’t have inner dragons doing the anti-body thing to prevent that specific side-effect, chances are they will turn into dragons eventually if they keep using it.

-Same for Sting and Rogue, since their dragons are dead.

-A lot of Natsu’s attacks are actually magnified by the enchantment; Natsu’s sheer destructive power makes a lot more sense that way. Natsu however has no sense of scale so he does things like 500x times more powerful than he needs to

-Happy is a lot smarter than he appears; he’s just an obnoxious little shit-stirrer

-Lucy stayed with Mira while trying to find an apartment to rent; also it’s Mira that hands out a copy of Lucy’s apartment key to her team.

-So they’re not breaking in. Mostly.

-Gray so killed a person without blinking; he froze a guy’s head solid during the whole ‘Lullaby Incident.’

-It’s Gray’s speed with his magic that makes him dangerous

-Gray has his issues but he’s a lot more prideful than a person would expect; intelligent fighters are great okay?

-Lyon however I have issues with. Lots of. How did you get followers? Especially ones that were part of a mage guild? Did you put out an ad in Socerer’s Weekly? How did you pay for all the supplies you’d need for a group of people for three years? How did you even move Deliora?

-Also Gray’s from the ‘northern continent’ so um... plot-hole space? Unless there’s like a second ‘northern continent’ so the ‘western counties’ remark by Ur makes sense

-need to go look at that book Levy has on one of the splash pages; is a world map

-Actually there’s a lot more death, but it’s mook death so we don’t care. See how the army was ‘defeated’ by Eisenwald or whatever it was called. This is further combined with the mooks that died at the Tower of Heaven; not just in the slave revolt flashback but when the tower is destroyed and they’re crushed, followed by the unstable magic of Etherion doing whatever to the crystals

-Lucy knows she weaker than them physically; she at least makes up for it by having a wider background knowledge of magic. Too bad none of this ever gets followed up on in other ways.

-Lucy is uncomfortable taking jobs without the rest of the team; no wonder you’re a broke bitch. Taking jobs with just Natsu means your income is breadcrumbs.

-Lucy’s also had to have renegotiated her contracts with her keys several times; otherwise she’d have only access to all her spirits on Wednesday as that’s the only ‘day’ Aquarius originally let Lucy call her on.

-When Lucy got Loke? She went and accidentally renegotiated Celestial Spirit Magic contracts in general. Because for Loke’s story to logically work out, a mage could only have one Celestial Spirit out at a time. With Loke jamming Karen out, she couldn’t summon another.

-So Lucy made it possible for summoners to have two out at one time; clearly the time for Spirit Double Battles is near

-Also Karen probably had another magic of some sort. Celestial Spirit Mages by themselves are considered weak because there’s so many conditions built into using the magic; when to use the spirit mostly but also all the agreements between the contractors. Hence Lucy must have renegotiated all her contracts at least once, as Lucy uses her keys more indiscriminately as the series progresses. It’s a versatile magic, but limited to having the item, having the contract, being the day of able to use the spirit’s time/energy etc

-Lucy might want to look into learning some other magic to be more well-rounded; as intelligent as she is, runes would be easy enough. So would re-quip. You’ve lost your keys how many times now?

-Laxus what are you wearing when first introduced? Please tell me that it was laundry day and you were wearing a gag gift from Bixlow, even if Bixlow hasn’t been introduced yet. Because awful. Let Natsu burn it, please.

-Also Laxus, considering the size of the communication lacrima in the guild, how large is the one you’re carrying? Also how do they work because the one Urtear has with her later is like the size of a basketball. Not exactly portable.

-Cana is awesome and has great leadership skills; she lead the defense of the guild against Phantom while Erza was out cold and Mira was being useless

-The Guildhall clearly has several sub-levels. Mavis’ body is well hidden and probably the reason why the basement hasn’t flooded despite being next to the lake. Makarov, I love you but it’s probably Prech/Hades who reinforced the shit out of the sub-layers.

-Loke probably overdid it during the attack by Phantom Lord and probably shaved off a few months of his ability to stay in Earthland while defending the guild. No wonder he was looking so terrible after

-Juvia once dated Bora of Titan’s Nose; you know the guy in the first chapter that Natsu beat up? You’re better off without him.

-Juvia dear, a crush is not love and you’re being somewhat obsessive; that it only gets worse and is eventually reciprocated is less than ideal; maybe it’s those last few chapters of Naruto but I keep seeing Sakura/Sasuke parallels in the ‘chase the man down for a pity fuck, get it, get a child, have ongoing depressive episode’?

-I probably wouldn’t mind this so much if Juvia had more of a personality than ‘love struck, obsessive fan.’ Like what are your ideals, what do you like that’s not about Gray?

-Lucy’s tragic backstory is probably less lonely when you consider she probably could hang out in the local ‘large’ village; she’d be slumming it but she at least would have had friendly acquaintances

-The staff do love her and she them; Lucy just doesn’t have her father’s love

-Jude is a piece of work that deserves to be told off; also, marrying Lucy to nobility for land to expand business so your eventual grandson will inherit?

-Fuck you; Lucy should have slapped a bitch. As it is, refusing to do so probably put a nail in the coffin of your business Jude.

-There’s a difference between ‘army’ and ‘rune knight’ and the latter are solely answerable to the ‘Magic Council.’ Also the ‘Magic Council’ seems to be a continent spanning organization separate from the national government, meant to monitor and organize mage guilds.

-It being corrupt as it is later is not really a surprise as there’s really not a lot to hold them accountable; Jellal and Ultear infiltrated the council and it’s implied that Jellal through work for the Council was named Wizard Saint.

-There’s probably more than just those two who have infiltrated the ‘Magic Council’ organization. Those two are just notable for having reached such a high level, as they both had voting power.

-Erza’s actually a holder-type mage, who can also use caster-type magic

-Specifically re-quip is a caster-type magic but she uses both the inherent and charged abilities of her armor and weapons to further her strength and abilities physically and magically. She’s also got some telekinesis so she can also further use this to ‘wield’ more weapons

-Erza’s oblivious to a lot of social things, which is not surprising as she’s not actually the social type.

-She’s missed so many people having a crush on her: Simon, Lucy, Gray, Bisca... yeah, Erza turns people into useless lesbians. Gray somehow manages to avoid this, possibly through the power of stripping. More probably through friendship and being in a Rivalry with Natsu

-Rivals is a relationship status okay; someone where between committed and it’s complicated

-Erza’s ability to kill a bitch gets nerfed for plot purposes; namely Jellal

-Jellal, you being evil I like. You have personality. You’re an asshole but somehow charming with your teenage boy sense of humor and extra-ness. Your fashion sense however needs work.

-Jellal was clearly in charge of getting supplies and such for his minions/slaves. And yet he can’t import a fashion sense? Clearly skipped movie night too much

-Wally so did make movie nights happen; they can probably quote movies verbatim

-Jellal focused a lot on Natsu. Not for his magic but because he wanted to fight Natsu. No evil plotting here

-Simon, you are so pathetic, this is why you’re a plot point later, so you can actually be useful after death

-Also Erza, ‘Eternal Wizard Saint’? Aren’t you just going a little far in your imaginary funeral. Makarov’s speech was in character but, a little more realism

-Oh and there’s more mook death in the Tower of Heaven arc; I think I mentioned it before? Them getting crushed by a collapsing tower and then vaporized by unstable magic? No wonder Erza and Jellal were spit back out; plenty of people died.

-Erza probably ripped open her second origin/magic container here, trying to absorb and direct the unstable Etherion magical build-up

-The way the story is framed makes you think the dragons are out and in hiding somewhere, instead of being spirits inside their slayers or something

-It’s probably a flashback?

-Oh and Lucy can make fireworks too; clearly gate keys are not just for summoning spirits
