A new study shows the Megalodon, a gigantic shark that went extinct 3.6 million years ago, was more slender than earlier studies suggested. This finding changes scientists' understanding of Megalodon behavior, ancient ocean life, and why the sharks went extinct. The Megalodon or megatooth shark is typically portrayed as a super-sized monster in popular culture, with recent examples in the sci-fi films "The Meg" (2018) and "Meg 2: The Trench" (2023). Previous studies assume that the shark likely reached lengths of at least 50 feet and possibly as much as 65 feet.

Finished my fossil frenzy inspired slouchy hat! I found the cowl pattern and wanted to adapt it into a slouchy hat. Originally was for my brother but it’s a bit too small so this one is for me! I’m really happy with how it turned out!

A fossilized shark tooth of an Otodus megalodon from the Luanda Formation in Cacuaco, Luanda, Angola. The teeth from these famous otodontid sharks can be found in Miocene to Pliocene aged deposits throughout the world. What is unusual about this tooth is the locale, though unfortunately, most of the root is missing and there is significant damage to the blade itself. The blade by itself has a slant height of around 3.5 inches. This old collection specimen like many other fossilized Angolan shark teeth was collected by a geologist working in the region decades ago.
