Nez Bellows, Smith and Tinkerer:

What he’s from: Mice and Mystics.

Background:

Nez Bellows became the Royal Smith in Castle Andon after an incident that led to him being arrested. King Andon pardoned him, and Nez not only learned from his mistake, but also seized his second chance and became a trusted ally of the Royal Family, known for his craftsmanship of armor and weapons. (It should be noted that he is still somewhat haunted by whatever it was he did, as he apparently relived that memory during the incident involving Glorm the Necwormancer).

When Vanestra came to the Castle, Nez was soon evicted from the Forge, and was one of those who became involved against her. He was also among those falsely arrested for treason and locked in the dungeon (alongside Maginos, Tilda, and Collin).

Now, he works on behalf of Collin and his allies to aid Princess Chloe and others in taking back the kingdom.

I know Nez, at least, remains a mouse, as a number of the tales of Mice and Mystics are told by his descendant, Daz, to his descendant’s son and daughter, Tip and May.

How he is like me:

We both are quite strong and creative. Also, I (sometimes) do my best to learn from my mistakes and take advantage of second chances. Like, every day is a second chance to make up for the mistakes of the previous day.

Kelsey Notes:

Learning from your mistakes is a process that involves problem solving to find a way to eliminate the mistake you are making instead of continuously making the mistake and expecting an apology after the fact to make everything ok.

The apology after the fact is what helps us to realize that we need to fix the problem rather than make up for it after the fact

When you avoid or suppress the problem because you feel bad only allows for a brief reprieve from the mistake. 

Until you make the same mistake again and the cycle of negativity rears it’s ugly head.

It can be really difficult when we are making strides to better ourselves and our behavior only for more bad things to end up happening- like Vanestra kicking Nez out after being given a second chance. 

It’s always good to have a support system available for the times when we try to do our best but things just don’t always go the way we expect them to

even when we think we’re making the right choices

Fortunately Nez has a support system that he can work with to take back the kingdom rather than enter a cycle of depression about not being able to take action himself

And not just normal biologists or whatever I'm talking field biologists and grad students and wildlife technicians who actively work with animals out in the wild for animal research. Habitat managers too, like what sort of insane kind of habitat management things do you have to do for magical creatures?

And, most important of all, where would people who work with magical creatures or aliens fall on the weirdness scale for wildlife professionals

ONCE UPON A TIME...

⤷ a series re-imagining famous fairy tales with assorted genshin women !

⤷ featuring:

beauty and the beast [eula lawrence] ➳ on the edges of mondstadt, nestled in the frigid mountains of dragonspine, is a lonely, forgotten castle. word around town is that within the cold stone walls is a monstrous beast, a scion of the cursed lawrence family. you are content to live your days far ignorant of such a rumor, but when your father gets into a terrible accident in the mountains, you have no choice but to take your chances with whatever lurks in the castle to save him.

the little mermaid [raiden ei] ➳ the world above the water has always fascinated you. the tales of rolling hills and towering mountains, vast plains and mystical forests; and of course, the people. the people who sing and dance and run along the shore, carefree and lively. you wish, and you wonder, what it's like to be part of that world. your wish is granted somewhat on a stormy night, when a ship crashes against the rocks and scatters its human occupants to the waves. against what you've been told, you rush to save the one person you can find--a beautiful, purple-haired woman, dressed in fine, ornate clothing. it's a meeting that will change your life, forever.

rapunzel [beidou] ➳ when you were born, your parents gave you to a sea monster. you don't know why, and you were never told why. all you know is that you are this beast's prisoner, forever to be locked away in a tower by the sea. there is no escape for you; the only exit is the window, and the only thing waiting beneath it are jagged rocks and harsh waves. the beast comes and goes, ascending your tower using your hair as a rope. he calls your name in a singing rhyme, and you let down your hair. only one night, it is not the beast whom climbs through your window--but a charming, pretty pirate, who brings the first light of companionship to your life.

cinderella [jean gunnhildr] ➳ life is not easy after your mother's death. your father does his best, yet the woman he brings home to replace her is cruel. but she makes your father happy (or at least, you tell yourself as much) so you keep your head down and do as she and her daughters order you to. it isn't too bad. the attic is your refuge, and the barn mice keep you company. in the dark you gaze through the window at the glittering palace in the distance, and you let yourself dream of a sweeter life. but magic--magic has a way of turning dreams to reality, and there is more magic in your life than you know.

⤷ notes/disclaimers : ➹ this will not be a 1:1 retelling! i will of course do my best to be as close as possible to the source material, but since i will be incorporating genshin lore into this as well, i will be taking several creative liberties. also, some of the source material is... dark, and i'll be changing that because i personally don't enjoy writing dark content of that level. ➹ this is currently not the finalised list! i plan to add maybe two more characters, but i have yet to figure out how to work their corresponding fairy tales. ➹ unfortunately, there won't be a upload schedule! as much as i wish i could write only this for the next few weeks, i have other life things to handle, so i'll only be working on this in my free time. nonetheless, i'll do my best to get them up as soon as i can.

Potential Character for Mrs. Kelsey and Tumblr 4/24/2024:

Maginos the Mystic:

What he’s from: Mice and Mystics.

Background:

An old wizard, Maginos has long served the Royal Family of Andoria, and is an old friend of King Andon himself. He is wise and knowledgeable, and knows a number of spells, both with the aid of books and scrolls and without.

When King Andon was poisoned by Vanestra, Maginos was among those who realized that “Something strange [was] afoot.” He was also among those who worked with Prince Collin to try and come up with a way to get rid of Vanestra. He was ALSO among those who were arrested by Vanestra’s minions for treason, and locked in the dungeons.

However, Maginos had a plan to get out. With the aid of Meeps the small dragon (his familiar), Maginos had managed to acquire a lock of Vanestra’s hair, which would allow Maginos, Collin, Tilda, and Nez to turn into another creature and escape the dungeons. It was Filch, however, who suggested mice.

Now, after the events of the previous three Mice and Mystics “books”, Maginos is working with Collin and the other Heroes of Barksburg to help Princess Chloe reunite the kingdom.

How he is like me:

We’re both clever, intelligent, wise (we both know a lot about things like my fan fictions and his mystic knowledge), helpful (we both want to help others, like I want to help people like my peers and he wants to help his fellow Heroes of Barksburg and civilians), and like books. Wisdom can mean making good decisions based on great knowledge (according to my Mom), and my wisdom is increasing as I age and mature. Still, greater wisdom is still a goal for me to aspire to.

Kelsey Notes:

Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement.

Someone could be considered wise when they have experience with making mistakes or hurting others but have learned and grown from that experience

Despite having difficulty controlling your emotions, you continue to work hard to learn from your mistakes

You use those lessons to help others who might struggle with the same problems that you have faced and moved on from

People with autism struggle with “insistence on sameness”- this can mean that you continue to do something the same way whether it is correct or not

            For example, if vacuuming is a chore you forgot to do, and had to be reminded, the reminder becomes a part of the routine rather than picking up on the fact you should be vacuuming on your own rather than waiting for someone to remind you

Maginos seems to be a character that takes initiative when a problem arises.

Initiative means you start something on your own without being told

            No one told you to start a tumblr or a podcast, you recognized that it would be a helpful resource for others so you took the initiative to start it and continue to update as necessary

The harder the task, the harder it is to take the steps to start doing something about it

Saint Gertrude of Nivelles

626 - 659

Feast Day: March 17

Patronage: cats, rat and mice infestation, mental illness, travelers, gardens

Saint Gertrude of Nivelles was a noble-born from saintly parents. At 10 she refused any and all marriage prospects. At 13, after her father died, Gertrude founded the Benedictine Abbey of Nivelles with her mother and was installed as abbess in 639. The Abbey's hospitality welcomed travelers, wishing them no misfortune. She was a mystic, who helped the poor, elderly, and sick. Townspeople called her to ward off rat and mice infestation thus becoming the patron of cats. She died in March at age 33 after a life of prayer and penance, becoming the patron of gardens because of the prospect of fair weather.

There are so many fun Disaster Twins parallels I caught the last time I binged Rise

I’m mainly going to start with lines before I get into some deeper stuff in part two, but as far as I’ve seen this pair seems to have the most parallels and I love it

Both the sillies have a line about sounding naturally sarcastic: “And I know everything I say sounds sarcastic, but I’m being completely genuine… This time.”

“Oh sure, let me just load my Tap Into Every Security Camera in New York app! I’m sorry if that sounded like sarcasm it wasn’t I am in.”

They both land on Warren in his first episode 😂

These sillies in Bug Busters:

Also LOOK at these guys in their matching cutesy pajamas

Donnie teasing his brothers and hitting them with the tennis balls all smug in Smart Lair feels very Leo of him

Leo being the naysayer of the group in The Gumbus and constantly insisting there has to be some kind of logical/scientific explanation is very Donnie of him

“There has to be a simple answer. Earthquake, magnets, giant prankster mice. There’s no such thing as ghosts!” “A model train. Simple answer.” “Aha! Right? The simple answer!”

Donnie has a funny line about Dragons (and their teeth) not existing, both these moments being ironic since discovering yokai, the Hidden City and the whole mystics world makes dragons and ghosts not just possible, but proven real

Their iconic weird showing-off-clothes poses in Purple Jacket and Late Fee

These lines:

“Can’t we get new brothers?!”

“We have to go back for our brothers! Or are you gonna replace them, too?!”

“Guh-ee…”

They are also the only two characters with lines mentioning they think Splinter would’ve been cooler specifically as a tiger 😂 While I love the Eric Bauza/Tigerclaw references to ‘12, otherwise the comments are rather random other than saying tigers are cooler than rats. It made me realize how much they really do think alike. “You’re just a rat, we need a tiger.” “Yeah sure you’re a rat and it probably would’ve been cooler if you were like a tiger or something.”

More similar lines when they both break the fourth wall: “One season later and I still have full battery!” “If this isn’t the poster shot, someone’s getting fired.”

Leo’s chosen last words: “With my last breath I told you sooooo!”

Donnie’s chosen last words: “At least I shall perish knowing I was the better brother.” (a lie)

I believe they’re also the only ones to call Splinter Papa whereas Raph and Mikey use ‘Pops’ more

And last but not least, their shared aversion to Staten Island

Bottom line, the rottmnt writers practically made their twinship canon without realizing it sooo it’s pretty much undeniable now 😊
