I'm pretty sure the first time I saw the original short for DEBS (yes there's an even lower budget version of this movie) was during movie night at Michfest. Imagine baby dyke me on the land almost a decade ago. Alone but surrounded by hundreds of women, not knowing hundreds more would be showing up in the next few days. Watching lesbian made movies on a massive projector screen in the woods of Michigan. Lesbian pilgrimage.

Literally just hearing about MichFest for the first time today and I actually cannot believe how feral men are when they're not allowed into female owned spaces. It was an exclusive festival and guess what? Just because you're not allowed there doesn't mean it's discriminatory. If you demand to be let into someone's house and they don't know you i.e. you're not related to them in any way shape or form, you're not getting in because you don't belong there. Men are so disgustingly and abhorrently selfish and gluttonous for what isn't theirs. So many groups, organizations, events, etc., are exclusive!! Exclusivity ≠ discrimination. Go make your own spaces and whatnot just like you always have when you're not accepted somewhere because it's not for you.

At SPOTL I got myself a Land Community Cookbook! It's a cookbook full of recipes from festies, both recipes that were actually served on the land (like these two!) and recipes that were just sent in by festgoers.
I made chicken satay salad and sesame noodles, which was apparently a common combination during fest. They were both DELICIOUS, I can see how they would be very popular on the land. It's a cold dish, which would be refreshing in the summer, and it has a LOT of flavor. I doubled the amount of noodles, as there was plenty of sauce and I didn't want it to go to waste, and I skipped the coconut because I'm just not a coconut fan, but it all worked so well.
If you want to support the WWTLC, go pick yourself up a copy from their website! It's FULL of very cool recipes I'm excited to try.

Sooo they won't release the michfest meetup location until you pay for a ticket. I live in Metro detroit, and before I commit, I want to see the drive if it's far oof. Like I get that we want to keep harrassment out, but. I'm not dropping 100 on something that has no confirmed destination. I reached out to one of the founders on her tiktok, but there's no response yet. I just asked for her to estimate the drive time based on my location (roughly). I don't wanna get scammed.

Does anyone know of any still-running female-only festivals or gatherings happening in the United States any time soon? It’s been my dream to attend one, but MichFest ended when I was still in college.

I have a question for radfems: what specific thing got you into reading radfem theory and made you re-evaluate your feminist positions?
for me it was the michfest debacle a few years ago

love having a time reading articles about tribe 8 while making a shirt because i can/because i cant get one and reading the concerns about their songs and how they were on stage and how they were just loud dykes with no concern for others (cis het and assimilationist) opinions and going "ah ive heard all this in the last month! we really are (/s) still shitting out, eating, and shitting out again the same transphobic queerphobic terf opinions about queer sexuality and sexual expression every fucking year since forever!"
anyways the shirt has BDSM angels on it.

sorry for being a hater but younger lesbians constantly trying to remix shitty garbage from american lesbian history is just so cringe.  any of it.  copying old-school repressed roles, copying the hippie feminists, copying the edgy sex nerds and alt scene, it’s all so cringy.  do something original.  no goddamn soul is doing anything original.
it’s half the reason we don’t have a lick of new culture, everyone is obsessed with consuming all the old shit and stickering herself with it.  the other half is men ruining everything, which is why the old shit is all anyone runs to.
it’s pathetic and i’m embarrassed.
