I'm a Keenry girlie through and through, but I will say that something that Toriguel shippers have to hold over Keenry shipper's heads is the fact that Miguel has never unfairly blamed Tory for things out of her control.

I love Robby and I love Keenry but the ultimatum he gave her during their brief breakup was NOT it! Like, Miguel would have never done that to her.

Would Miguel cheat on her? Yes pfffftttt 💀, but he wouldn't blame her for it.

Hell, Miguel is literally the biggest Tory Defender in the show. Even when he could rightfully blame her for things, he still doesn't!

I'm not saying that means he is in love with her but he definitely does not hate her to the extent that fanon pretends he does.

His words are filled with sincerity, and Ethan finally looks over at him. Miguel meets Ethan's eyes. "…That’s the thing about betrayal, Ethan. It never comes from the enemy." He murmurs, reaching over to take his hand in his own. Ethan's caught off guard to see that his expression is filled with sympathy. It’s like he knows something. Something he won’t - HE CAN’T, HE REFUSES TO! - admit aloud.

The next exhalation of breath feels like it's forced from his lungs. Ethan's completely stunned into silence. His best friend’s words play on an agonizing loop in his head.

There's a rant in my head but I am too tired to write it out completely.

I refuse to believe that Robby would be happy that Johnny got someone pregnant. The writers make it obvious that Robby is kind but still just a kid. Kids tend to carry resentment for the people that abandoned them-- EVEN if those issues are being worked through. It takes a lot of time (and therapy) to get past it and Robby has not had either of these things.

I'll accept it if Robby is passive aggressive as HELL next season-- maybe end off with him having a breakdown knowing that Johnny's kind-of-trying is more than he ever even TRIED to offer Shannon and himself.

(I think a girl would make things easier on Robby tbh)

Lets not pretend that Miguel doesn't also have issues with paternal figures. He'd also probably be jealous next season, again?? Less so if it's a girl??

Anyway, it's canon that Carmen has a bad taste in men. Johnny's not a bad dude overall but she really... saw how he abandoned his own kid & then turned her kid into an asshole & then... decided to have a child with him.

and after talking to your mom about her plan for rehab, you felt pretty good about everything

eventually you left and didn’t hear much of anything from robby until the party. which was…a rough night

you hung out with him for a little while, apologized for the past few months, you cried a little, decided to go socialize with others

light drinking, nothing as bad as sam larusso, though

which went very downhill when the cops came

“a few beers, it was a party, after all. it’s not like i don’t sneak your beers” -you

“i knew that was you! i thought i was going crazy” -johnny

you knew it’d be a bad idea, though, and you were proved right when you hear someone banging on your front door

you, robby, and sam all looked terrified

and in a crazy, inevitable turn of events, robby finally lived with you and your dad

which didn’t last long after a fight broke out at school and robby completely disappeared an hour later

it took some time, but robby was found and arrested, which broke your heart enough for you to go visit your mom in rehab

“you know, i’m really proud of you for keeping yourself on the right path all these years. i’m just sorry i wasn’t there for you” -shannon

you ended up having a mini breakdown about him tbh

and all the cobra kai bullshit you were no longer participating in, but once things settled, you and your dad had the honor of founding (not your choice of name) eagle fang

and when robby got out, you were sort of shunned? just because you still associated with daniel and johnny. which really sucked for you after all the effort you made to let him know you were there for him.

it was a shock when you found out he was holed up in cobra kai, you even had to fight it out with him while johnny and kreese did the same

“after all this bullshit, you’re gonna choose cobra kai? is this just to get back at dad?” -you

“he’s never there for me! he’s always there for you! and miguel! what about me?!” -robby

“so you’re gonna let dad get in the way of our relationship? you keep trying to push me away and for what?! your daddy issues?!” -you

parting ways with robby and starting anew with danny and johnny’s combined dojos, but you almost didn’t want to. it’d be easier to just give up

but you kept on working for this tournament, it was the best way to go about it

until you heard there were separate brackets for the boys and girls, meaning you couldn’t fight your brother this time

but it might have been for the better

you were dying not being able to talk to robby, he dodged all your messages and calls. you even went to your mom’s apartment and he wouldn’t come see you

but by the tournament, you were full of rage from this family feud.

the only reason you didn’t go all the way to the finals was because you went up against sam, who needed to finish things with tory

cheering her on and being there for her when she lost

"this is your room," my uncle johnny said, allowing me to enter the small bedroom. i set my bag on the bed and looked around.

"do you need anything?" he asked. i shook my head no and sat next to my bag.  "i'm good," i said, giving him a weak smile.

"alright, well, if you need anything, i will be on the couch watching iron eagle," he said, before patting the door frame and walking away.

"hey, johnny?" i called.

"yeah?" he asked, popping his head back in the doorway.

"thank you. for taking me in," i said. he smiled lightly.

"of course, kid. i always knew my brother was an asshole, but.."

he stopped in the middle of his sentence when i looked down at the ground, recalling unpleasant memories from living with my dad.

"i'm... happy to have you," he said. i looked at him and raised my eyebrows.

"wow, johnny lawrence being affectionate? unheard of," i joked.

"alright, alright, shut up," he said before walking away again. "oh! one more thing. you're gonna join my dojo."

"um.. okay, i guess. but, you do know i have no experience, right?"

"i'll make an exception for you," he said, before walking away, for real this time.

"alright, 7 in the morning, get your ass up!" i heard someone yelling. i shot up, scared shitless, and saw johnny standing in the doorway holding a gym bag.

"what the hell?" i asked rubbing my eyes. "why are you waking me up so early?"

"i have a class to teach and you have a class to attend," he said, causing me to groan.

"you didn't tell me that was today!" i said. all of a sudden, i heard knocking on the front door. "who the hell is knocking at your door at 7 in the morning?"

"it's probably miguel," he vocalized as he walked out of my room.

"who the hell is miguel?" i asked, standing up.

"hey, sensei!" i heard an upbeat voice say. i furrowed my eyebrows, wondering who could possibly be so energetic so early. i made my bed before walking out of the room, rubbing my eyes, and going into the bathroom. i closed the door behind me before brushing my teeth and washing my face. when i was done, i opened the door and walked out toward the living room.

"hey, who was at the do-"

i stopped talking when i saw a guy about my age, maybe 5'10, dark features, and what else... oh, fucking HOT!

"oh, uh, hi," he said, his eyebrows furrowed.

"hi," i replied, "i'm sorry, johnny didn't tell me someone was coming over."

"that's okay, i'm miguel," he said, sticking his hand out for me to shake. "you're..?"

"i'm y/n, johnny's niece," i said, shaking his hand.

"oh! he told me you were coming, it's nice to meet you. i'm miguel," he said, causing me to smile.

"yeah, you already said that," i laughed. he pursed his lips and closed his eyes.

"right, i'm sorry," he laughed. 

when i looked down at our hands and noticed they were still holding each other, i cleared my throat and pulled my hand away.

"alright, you guys ready?" johnny asked, coming from god knows where.

"does it look like i'm ready?" i asked, motioning to my pajama-clad body.

"hurry it up," he said and i rushed over to my room, closing the door behind me.

i quickly got dressed in the only gym clothes i had before tying my hair up into a ponytail. i turned around and looked in the mirror, giving myself a quick once-over before opening the door and heading back out to the living room. when i got there, i looked around for miguel, but only johnny was standing there.

"where'd he go?" i asked.

"he forgot something in his apartment. he lives right across from here," he said, taking a drink from his water bottle.

"are you serious?" i asked.

"yeah," he said, a confused look on his face. "why?"

"no reason," i said, "are we leaving?"

"yep, let's go."

"alright everybody, listen up, as you can see, we have a new student," johnny said, pointing to me. i threw my head back, internally questioning why he had to draw attention to me. "this is my niece, y/n."

i pursed my lips and waved. johnny attempted to stifle a laugh and i wanted to hit him.

"hey, i'm hawk," a guy with interesting hair said as he came up to me.

"oh, hi," i said.

"i'm bert," said another guy who looked like he couldn’t be older than 10 years old.

"i'm aisha and this is tory," said a girl who came up to me with a tall blonde following behind her.

"alright guys, lay off a bit," miguel said, slightly stepping in front of me. everyone did as told and i breathed out, relieved that i wasn’t being bombarded with people anymore.  i wanted to give him a hug for that, but decided against it.

"it's nice to meet you all," i said, not really knowing what else to say.

"alright, diaz, warm them up," johnny said.

"yes, sensei," miguel nodded before turning to me.  "i'll take it slow.  just follow along, you'll be good," he said before walking to the front of the dojo. "alright, jumping jacks, let's go."

by the end of the class, i had made friends with aisha, tory, bert, chris and hawk, even though he was a bit flirty.  i also found out that i'm a lot better at this than i thought i would be.

"class dismissed!" johnny yelled. 

i stretched out my arms as people walked past me, saying goodbye on their way out of the dojo.

"y/n!" i heard aisha call my name. i looked up at her and she waved me over.

"what's up?" i asked as i approached her, miguel, hawk and tory.

"we just wanted to know if you were down to go to a party tonight," hawk said.

"uh.." i looked back at johnny, wondering if he would be cool with it. god knows my father wasn't. "yeah, that sounds fun, let me just ask john- mr. law- whatever the hell you guys call him."

i heard slight laughter behind me as i walked over to johnny, growing anxious for some reason.

"hey, how'd your first class go?" he asked.

"pretty good. i guess you can say i'm happy you made me do this," i said.

"i knew you'd like it," he said, causing me to smile lightly. "do you need something?"

"um, yeah, i was wondering if i could go to a party tonight with aisha, miguel, hawk and tory?" i asked, playing with my hands.

"yeah that's fine," he said, shrugging. i furrowed my eyebrows.

"it is?" i asked.

"yeah, why? am i supposed to have rules or something?" he asked. i shrugged. "okay, well, just don't get pregnant, alright?"

i furrowed my eyebrows at the fact that his only concern was me getting pregnant.

"you're not gonna tell me to stay away from drinks or drugs or anything?” i asked.

"what kind of party would it be without that stuff?" he asked.

"okay then," i said. he smiled and patted me on the shoulder before walking away.

"good job today," he said.

"thanks."

"hey, miguel is waiting for you!" johnny called from the kitchen.

"i'll be out in a minute," i yelled back as i applied my mascara.  after i was done, i stood up and looked at myself in the mirror, not exactly disappointed in what i saw.

i exited my room and walked out toward the living room, making eye contact with miguel. he looked me up and down while johnny watched from the sidelines.

"hi," i said to miguel.

"hey. you look... nice," he said, causing a deep blush to appear on my cheeks.

"thank you," i said.

there were a couple of seconds of awkward silence before johnny decided to speak up.

"alright, go wait outside for a minute," johnny said to miguel, who furrowed his eyebrows, but complied.  he closed the door behind him and i looked up at johnny, wondering what he wanted.

"diaz?" he asked.

"what?"

"you like diaz?" he asked.   i started blushing again.

"i do not," i said.

"wow, you're a shit liar," he said.

“i don’t, i barely know him,” i said.

“yeah, but i bet you want to,” he said, wiggling his eyebrows.

"stop!" i whined.

"alright, alright. have fun. like i said before, don't get pregnant," he said.  i sucked my teeth.

"you just ruined my plans for the night," i said, sarcastically.

"very funny. get out of here," he said, nodding toward the door. i sighed and turned around, walking toward the door.

"bye."

"be back by 3!" he said.  i furrowed my eyebrows and opened the door back up.

“3?” i asked.

“what, you want it to be 4 or something?” he asked, taking a sip from his banquet.  

“never mind,” i said before closing the door.  miguel was leaning up against the wall waiting for me.

"you ready?" he asked. i nodded my head.

"yep."

he stood up straight and led me away from the building.  once we were standing at the curb, he pulled out his phone to check the time. 

"they should be here any minute," he said.  i nodded.  after standing there for a few more moments of awkward silence, hawk pulled in a convertible.

“let’s do this!”

about an hour into the party, i was walking along the beach with miguel.  there hasn’t been anymore awkward silence between the two of us, i’ve actually grown pretty comfortable with him.

he hasn’t left my side all night.  he has been introducing me to everyone and showing me around.  he’s super sweet... and cute.. and shit, johnny might be right.

“so, why did you move in with johnny?” he asked, kicking around some sand.  i pursed my lips and shoved my hands in my pocket. “you don’t have to answer, i was just curious,” he added once he saw the change in my mannerisms.

“no, it’s okay.  i, uh.. my mom died when i was 12, so it was just me and my dad, johnny’s brother.  when my mom died, he became really aggressive, and.. yeah.”

“oh, i’m so sorry,” he said.

“no, it’s okay, things are a lot better now,” i said, looking over at him.  he smiled softly at me.  

“that’s good, i’m glad,” he said.  i nodded.

“it’s kind of weird now, though.  like, earlier, when i asked to come to the party, i thought he would yell or tell me no, but he just told me not to get pregnant,” i said, causing miguel to laugh.

“are you serious?” he asked.

“i’m so serious."

we spent the next couple of hours talking about random topics and laughing until our stomachs started to hurt. 

“oh! there’s this super cool place here.  it has mini golfing, an arcade, a cool water slide thing.  it’s called golf-n-stuff.  we should definitely go sometime,” he said.

“sounds a bit like a date,” i said.  he looked over at me and he opened his mouth to say something, but no words were coming out.

“i.. uh, i didn’t mean it as a date, but, i, uh, i mean, if you want it to be, it can-”

“a date at..”

“golf-n-stuff,” he filled in for me.

“golf-n-stuff,” i repeated, “sounds great.”

“really?” he asked, smiling.  i nodded, smiling twice as hard as him.  

“okay.  okay, alright,” he said.  all of a sudden, my phone buzzed.  i pulled it out to see a random instagram notification.  when i checked the time, i realized that it was 2:45.

“hey, do you think we could head out? it’s a quarter till three,” i said.

“yeah, that’s cool,” he replied, “hawk!”

hawk subtracted himself from the conversation he was in and walked over to us.  

“can we head out? she has to get home,” miguel said.  hawk grabbed the keys to his car out of his pocket and handed them to miguel.

“just leave it in your parking lot,” he said before walking away.  miguel furrowed his eyebrows.

“uh, okay then.”

soon, we were five minutes away from our apartment complex.  even though i will most likely see him tomorrow, i still don’t want this night to end. 

five minutes later, we pulled into the parking lot of our apartment complex.  he pulled into an empty spot and stopped the car, turning it off.  

we both got out and began walking back to our apartments.  i swung my arms back and forth, not knowing what to say.

“thank you for inviting me out tonight, i had a lot of fun,” i said, looking over at him.  he smiled and nodded.

“i’m glad you came,” he said.  when we arrived at johnny’s apartment, we stopped and turned to look at each other.

“so, that date..” he started.

“how’s tomorrow sound?” i asked.

“great.  yeah, great, i’ll come get you at like 7?”

“yeah, that sounds good,” i said.  he nodded, looking down at me.  

all of a sudden, he stepped forward and i felt his lips on mine.  when i realized that i wasn’t kissing him back, i quickly did, our lips moving in sync.

“oh, fancy seeing you here,” i heard johnny say from behind me.  i quickly pulled away from miguel and whipped around.

“hey sensei,” miguel said.

“y/n,” he said, then looked over to miguel. “diaz.”

the two of us stood in awkward silence as johnny stared us down with narrowed eyes.

“okay, goodnight.  i’ll see you tomorrow,” i said to miguel and took a step toward johnny.

“goodnight.”

i went inside first, then johnny followed, closing and locking the door behind him.  

“so,” he said.  

“so..”

“you and diaz hooking up?” he asked.  

“no, we’re not hooking up,” i said, kicking off my shoes.

“no? so was i just imagining that out there?” he asked, then proceeded to make kissing noises.

“oh my god, fine, we kissed, but that’s it!” i said.

“yeah, that better be it.  i love diaz, but if he gets you pregnant i might have to kill him,” he said.  

“oh, my god, what is it with you and getting pregnant?”

➪ i feel as if he could be the type of brother who really isn’t present most of your life due to his issues during season one

➪ but he’s really caring and protective and around the timeline of season two/middle of season one (when he meets daniel larusso) he tries to show up for you since he knows you have nobody but himself

➪ daniel really betters robby and encourages him to spend time with you

➪ at first he’s real hesitant, thinking you’ll hate him because he’s never been there for you before and by this time you have learned independence and developed a sense of trust issues

➪ but robby loves you and hopes to make it up to you by apologizing A LOT for never being there and doing things for you

➪ overall he’s a nice guy and it shocks you at first and you’re hesitant- but you fall into routine with him and even develop a real good bond with him

➪ you try out karate with him and mr larusso but never get into it as much as they do, so you end up back at your job, wanting to earn enough money for your own place because you feel bad for living with daniel

➪ robby is really protective when it comes to johnny lawrence aka your dad lol, due to him not wanting you to get hurt

➪ you tease him for his crush on sam and even help him out with girl advice because he really never liked a girl like that

➪ you worry about him a lot in fear he’ll let him anger get the better of him- and eventually it does

➪ when he runs off, you’re the only one he keeps contact with and me larusso has to beg you to tell him where robby is and eventually you do, wanting what’s best for him

➪ he could never hate you for ratting him out but he still scolded you when he got back

in return you would scold him when he betrayed daniel when joining kreese’s side

➪ but overall you guys had developed a good relationship and he’s always there for you

➪ he also convinced you to join cobra kai but you’re not nearly as good as him, but you continued with the class, not wanting to feel weak and having to rely on miguel every second of the day

➪ but one argument the two of you often come across is your ability to be able to take care of yourself

➪ y’all don’t exactly have the closest relationship but he still cares about you a lot more than he lets on

➪ you think he’s a complete dumbass for the tattoos he got and you often roll your eyes every time you see them

➪ the relationship you two share is really iffy and it depends on the mood your both in because the two of you are either buddy-buddy or just hate each other

➪ on the down low he’s really protective and will beat up any boy that makes a move on you

➪ you end up kicking his ass for doing so due to finding out he’s the reason you lack a boyfriend

I hate that the developing friendships in seasons 1 and 2 don’t get enough attention

So Aisha probably got bullied a lot less after she joined CK right? Started standing up for herself and people realized they couldn’t fuck with her the same way anymore.

A lot like Hawk, however, things from her past really fucked her up. 

First time they bumped into some assholes from school the summer after the All Valley tournament, some kid snorts at her and she wants to fight back but she can’t help and feel small again, you know? Just the overweight chick who got made fun of for eating chips at a fucking dance.

Hawk punches the kid right in the nose and suddenly none of his friends are laughing.

Like he didn’t even hesitate. No warning. Just walked up and boom.

The dude’s friends look at Miguel, the kind-of-obvious leader of the group, expecting him to do something about his crazy ass friend

“What, you want me to hit you too?” 

IDC I think Hawk, although he refuses show it, is super fucking protective of Aisha when people try to give her shit. (Bert too)

Miguel is too, but he doesn’t want to start fights in public. Hawk does not give a shit.

Tory was going to transfer into West Valley High the upcoming year, so she didn’t know about any of the Cobra’s school lives

She did not expect Aisha, who took no ones shit, to get bullied

So when Hawk rightfully decked the asshole who thought it was a good idea to make fun of Aisha

Tory knew these people were her home

Which is why it hurt so much when Hawk left

When he broke Demetri’s arm, she took it as a sign of choosing them. He chose her and their broken, angry little family

And then he went crawling back to Demetri

Holy shit she probably hated Demetri for a while

Anyway, Tory didn’t show it but Aisha leaving really fucked her up

And when Aisha’s parent’s caught them video chatting after she moved to Santa Barbara, they grounded her

Tory cried that night, but she understood why she had to let her go. She was bad and she deserved to be alone.

People always talk about Demetri and Sam but what about Demetri and Robby??? THE WAY ROBBY WAS WILLING TO FACE A TON OF CK’S AT MOONS PARTY EVEN THOUGH DEMETRI WAS 100% IN THE WRONG???

 Robby fucking despises Hawk, mostly because the kid dislocated his fucking shoulder and literally cost him the championship

BUT ALSO because he can’t imagine anyone wanting to hurt Demetri 

Like yes, Demetri can be horribly annoying

But he’s also just a big nerd with a big mouth who needs to be taken care of like a child

Demetri’s broken arm was definitely on his mind when he cut Eli’s hair

Because why did Hawk get forgiven for all of his shit while Robby was a social pariah?

At least kicking Miguel off of the second floor was an accident.

Eli actually went out of his way to break Demetri’s arm

Eli wanted to hurt all of the people that he hurt

Anyway, Demetri is the reason that Robby knows anything about comics

He called it lame, but he loved listening to Demetri talk about all of the intricate stories and how the authors tied the horrors of reality into fiction

Guardians of the Galaxy? His favorite. Found family! In desperate search of a dad who just ends up disappointing you? How... peculiar.

As horrible as he feels about it, Demetri missed Robby after he ran away

They were friends! He knew Robby was a good person, but he also knew that he couldn’t express that out loud.

He loved Miguel too, and he was still hurting that Robby did what he did

I am trying to write from their perspectives I am in no way saying that almost killing Miguel is on the same level as breaking Demetri’s arm. 

Moon has a thing for confidence that wears big, loud hair.

She falls for what’s beneath the loudness ofc, but it’s the peacocking that catches her eye

Yasmine would rather die than admit it, but she likes tall scrawny guys

You know, the kind of guy that she can bully but he’d still be completely infatuated and never intimidating

People expect her to like these big tough guys, but they scare her

Once her and Moon saw this giant dude with raven black hair standing in line at a Cinnabon and she made Moon walk around with her to see if his face was cute

The Karate Kid/Cobra Kai Star Trek AU ideas...

@phantomcomet talked about a Star Trek AU and then I went too far in writing this post imagining some roles in Star Trek. I’ve stuck to the adults from TKK/CK and maaaainly envisioned characters through the lens of Starfleet (although not only). 

Anyway, here’s some thots! Any Star Trek/CK fans add more!

First things first: I did not think of a name for the starship Miyagi’s captaining, so I’m just calling it Miyagi’s ship for now. (The Bonsai doesn’t seem like a ship name really. The Crane Kick not so much either... The Cobra totally works though... anyway, someone have some ideas?)

Miyagi: Captain of the ship (later an admiral and then retires to take care of his bonsais). Obviously has a soft spot for Daniel, whom he probably spotted doing some whiz-kid stuff on a shitty, broken down civilian ship and took onboard. You know, you probably don’t even have to mess with his backstory that much to make it fit, he grew up on a planet on the outskirts of the Federation and saw some shit and is doing good, a la similar to Kirk’s backstory. He’s experienced abandonment from the Federation, so he may work within the system, but he’s fucking with it at every turn he gets and does what he thinks is right (a la Sisko. If Kirk and Sisko had a baby? Strange thoughts, but tell me I’m wrong).

Daniel: Engineer. Low key kind of a prodigy with engines. Engineers aren’t as often officer-class (unlike science/medicine and command, which I believe always are), so I can see Daniel coming into that from a less privileged space – definitely not the Academy – and initially butting heads with Johnny (as well as a bunch of others). He’s not head of engineering, but he works for the Lead Propulsion Engineer. Also he talks to the warpcore. You know he does. All the time.

Johnny: Security Babey! Also backstory is maybe he was trying to get into a command situation onboard a different ship led by Captain Kreese and he was the golden boy, but things went South when he was pushed to doing something he didn’t feel right about, so he was demoted for something bad that he’d done on Kreese’s orders and then couldn’t let go of. And he brings that baggage aboard Miyagi’s ship.

At this point people joke about Miyagi taking on lost causes and strays…. (but never to his face).

Ali: Doctor, of course! Did everything by the book and sometimes dreams that she’d let go of her parents expectations and could go out and do something outside of Starfleet. I feel like she might’ve studied with Johnny at the Academy and for a short while been onboard Miyagi’s ship with him and Daniel, but gotten transferred into a more specialised field at some point (chasing the dream).

Kumiko: Okay there’s three different things I see for her

1. Presumably this is a galaxy-class/exploration ship (similar to the Enterprise) and so civilians are also onboard. If Kumiko isn’t with Starfleet, maybe she was using it as transport as an incredibly famous dancer and there’s a whirlwind romance that can’t last vibe.

2. if Starfleet, definitely in Command somewhere. I kind of love her for a first pilot/flight pilot.

3. Command. Even if she’s not in Starfleet I can see her having command of her own ship: Quietly competent, but steely in conviction and capability, that’s her!

Kreese: Used to be a Captain, but quietly was ousted from Starfleet during an internal investigation that showed up a lot of problems during his command and even before that. Star Trek has depicted war, and bigotry, and I think Kreese would probably have some dirty laundry there (some of which hasn’t been uncovered). Still bitter about losing his command and losing Johnny and has some personal business with Miyagi that he puts on Daniel, like in the movies.

The OG Cobras: They were all on Kreese’s ship originally, but dispersed after the incident with Johnny. I wonder if only Bobby stayed on, studying intergalactic faiths and assisting in various first communications and interchanges.

Someone help me out with Jimmy, Tommy, and Dutch. Continue on in Starfleet, yay or nay?

Yukie: I caaannot see her as Starfleet. She obviously grew up with Miyagi on that planet and I feel like she’s heavily involved in the rebuilding efforts and has been her whole life. She’s traveled to earth multiple times to petition for relief efforts, and is incredibly anti-war – there’s a whole department dedicated to her work – wait is Yukie basically some hotshot activist who condemns Federation Neo!Colonialism… I feel like… that’s poetic… also you know where Kumiko gets her calm competence from!

Sato: I mean he’s some big-shot admiral while Miyagi’s still Captain and they have History! I think Sato bought into the Federation a lot more and is consistently angry at Miyagi’s choices and wants to initially trip him up, but he just can’t. And eventually they find themselves back home and patch things up – it’s the intergenerational environmental Trauma babey. You need to go back to the source to begin to heal.

Chozen: Speaking of intergenerational trauma… I mean, he’s gone through the Academy, he’s wound up as a combat pilot/second pilot on a great ship, (in this Sato isn’t captaining a ship, he’s risen in the ranks, but he’s pulling strings), he’s going through it. Unsure of what actually would happen, but I like him for combat pilot as a counterpoint to Kumiko’s flight pilot. Poetic.

Terry: OOOOKaaaay, who the heckening is Terry Silver in this? In canon I already HC him as almost a ghost, so how does that translate here? He’s an intergalactic crime boss, he’s got 50 different stories told about him (he’s an augment like Khan, he’s worked with Borg, he’s got contacts throughout the Federation, he came from the Gamma Quadrant) – only Kreese marginally knows him and knows he used to be an ensign, but before that… even he’s not sure…

Barnes & Snake: They work for Terry… do you think he’d do a longterm con of getting his own people into Starfleet through the Academy? I feel like he would. Officer Class, except Snake probably wound up in lowgrade security, I cannot see him having the brains to move that far up the ladder. I’m inventing a whole conspiracy now…. or maybe Terry hired Barnes after he got kicked out of the Academy, hmmm...

Jessica: I want her to be Science Class, so that’s what she is. Research and Development. Social sciences and Xeno-archaeology. She makes and collects gifted pots.

Carmen: She’s a nurse. I feel like she also came through in an unconventional way, possibly studying nursing in a civilian capacity and worked on civilian ships for a few years, using it as payment for traveling with her mom and her kid. Then, eventually, ends up on the same Starship as Johnny and Daniel and Co. (and now I kinda want to see her training under Ali, but in my head Ali left before Carmen entered the picture).

Rosa: I feel like the Diaz family didn’t grow up on earth – I’m aware that this puts people of colour mainly off-earth, but I’m thinking about Star Trek’s earth-metaphor as “paradise” (DS9) while it lets all the nasty stuff happen outside, which is… very similar to “first world/third world country” rhetoric + how in Karate Kid and Cobra Kai first Miyagi and then the Diaz family are immigrants. I think Rosa Diaz would get on with Miyagi – like a type of Guinan and Picard situation, where she’s definitely a civilian, but constantly ends up on conversation with the Captain and he’s not quite sure what exactly her history is. Also I’m imagining a lil toddler-Miguel on a big starship.

Amanda: Similar to Kumiko I can see Amanda in a lot of places – administrative? Officer class? Intelligence officer/analyst? Bridge crew? Captain-in-training? What are we thinking here? Also I wonder about her past, but that’s something I do in canon as well. I kind of like the idea that she’s worked incredibly hard for what she has, putting herself through the Academy, presenting the front of someone who grew up with giving parents on the “Paradise” of earth, but actually she didn’t…
