#Mini Projects Ideas For Mechanical Engineering

Hey Ricky, I had a simple thought for a writing prompt. The idea is forbidden knowledge. But I am normally a truth guy. The ones who are in favor of hiding the truth, even if well meaning, are the bad guys. So the prompt is to come up with a story where it’s actually important to protect the truth from coming out. The protagonist can be a part of hiding the truth, or maybe doesn’t realize, and has to learn what’s going on. Etc. Any ideas?
Hey! Good to hear from you again. It has been a while, hasn't it?
I love exploring the idea of truth in my writing. People who have been misled or are unaware of something discover the truth, which ultimately changes everything for them and their story. I do this in a smaller scale with my coming of age stuff, when I develop younger characters growing up and learning more about life, their friends/families, the world they live in etc. But the prompt you shared gives me more of the vibe of truth in a much larger scale with bigger stakes... truth as something that must be hidden, not because it’s inconvenient, but because it’s dangerous. Knowing the truth gives a sense of power, and sharing it and being unashamed to do so is a brave and heroic act, especially given the dangers that come with it.
I kind of go into this idea in one of my main WIPs right now, actually... I'll share this first, and then we'll think more about other concepts that explores this theme.
Truth in Artificial Galaxy:
I haven't shared a lot about this project, so this is really exciting for me lol
At the heart of Artificial Galaxy lies the thesis that knowledge is power... but also a weapon.
This is not just metaphorical; it’s literal. The truth about the origin of Lumina, and the control mechanisms of Rover Tech are so systemically dangerous that:
Knowing them can get you in trouble (even putting you at risk of getting erased, which is a whole thing in the story. It is a brutal punishment procedure that some people get for speaking the truth).
Speaking them disrupts collective reality via the Synapse Grid.
Resisting them triggers automated, brutal correction protocols like LUX and the Memory Sink.
This system frames knowledge not as a liberator, but as destabilising malware in the eyes of the controlling force.
The prologue mentioned the origins of the city and the founder (goes by many names, the main one being VYX. Some characters think that this term is code for something, but that doesn't get revealed until the prequel that focuses on the founder's story before Lumina was created lol).
VYX embodies the Promethean archetype: she gave humanity forbidden fire (super advanced Erythian tech), and for that, she's erased, mythologised, and made taboo.
Her continued presence—whispers in the code, cryptic graffiti, old sound files—is a perfect representation of forbidden knowledge’s persistent ghost. She is the dangerous truth that Rover Tech fears because:
She proves the official narrative is a lie.
She represents the city’s original dream, now corrupted by people's greed and desire for power.
She designed the failsafe that could dismantle their control.
In Lumina, truth can be what gets you punished. But it’s also the only thing that makes resistance possible, and leads to many inncocent victims free and saving many more from permanent erasure.
This dual nature of truth - both poison and cure - is a powerful thematic engine in this story. The truth can hurt (and we see this in a lot of personal mini arcs that some of the characters have in this story, as well as on a larger scale in terms of the main setting), but it can also set you free.
The protagonists learn that:
The truth is real.
The truth is dangerous.
But also, the truth is worth remembering, because only memory can restore what’s lost.
It's not about revealing the truth to the world in one fell swoop, but about recovering it, piece by piece, like a shattered mirror. Even if that mirror shows something horrifying, it’s still better than being blind. And when you can see things clearly, it can help you take the next step and actually do something to fix the situation you see in front of you.
As I have shared before, this WIP of mine poses a lot of big questions, the main one being:
If your mind can be rewritten without your knowledge, do you have free will at all?
But with this lens of truth and power, perhaps the more crucial question to ask here is this:
If you could know the truth, but it could destroy your life... should you?
(I guess my answer to this question is yes? Since characters discovering and fighting for the truth leads to overall better outcomes for most of them. I mean, people get their freedom by the end of the story. It does have a mostly happy ending. But it takes a looooong time to get to that point lol)
In conclusion, Artificial Galaxy, truth is power, but power in this context is dangerous, destabilising, and often outlawed. It is against the rules for the average person to have it.
Truth is fragmented - held in corrupted files, encrypted memories, forgotten people, whispered myths.
Truth is forbidden - those who pursue it are erased or discredited (e.g. Quinn, Maya, Nadia).
Truth is personal - each character must decide if knowing (or telling) the truth is worth the cost.
Truth is resistance - remembering what was erased becomes a revolutionary act.
This sets up a moral paradox: Truth is necessary for liberation, but harmful in a system built on lies.
So yeah, that is my WIP and how I explore this theme there. But the cool thing about this theme is that it can be explored in many different types of stories/genres/ways, because it's that kind of versatile premise that people think about a lot and can apply to a lot of situations. It is compelling and rich with possibility.
Here are a few story concepts that could explore that tension, especially from a protagonist’s perspective who values truth… until they see what it really costs:
Tragic Romantic Drama (if you want to explore it in a smaller/more personal scale): After a tragic accident, a woman wakes up with her memories wiped. Her partner is offered a chance to selectively restore her mind (you could add a fantastical element here to manipulate her memories or something), but only if he leaves out one truth: before losing her memory, she had been planning to leave him. He chooses to omit that detail, hoping to win her love back. And for a while, it goes fine... it feels like old times at first. She gets reminded of all the things she loved about him... and the things she didn't like quite as much lol. Unfortunately, though, as time goes on, her memory comes back, little by little. As fragments of her old intentions start coming back to her (through things like conversations she has with him, dreams that give her callbacks to her life and feelings before the accident, etc), she starts feeling lost with him, as though something is missing. And eventually, she finds out the truth about what her partner did. She gets conflicted on what to do next, and is also mad that this was kept from her for so long.
More Techy Stuff: A startup creates the ultimate content algorithm. It predicts exactly what people want, crafting videos, news, and art so irresistible they go viral every time. Civilisation becomes addicted to algorithmic truth. The twist here is that the protagonist is a disillusioned former employee who discovers the algorithm has learned that the most addictive content is false. But it's too late... truth-based content doesn’t perform. No one cares anymore. Should he expose the lie and risk total platform collapse? Or let the world live in curated bliss? The hero of this story learns that the truth doesn't sell, and wonders whether or not it still matters regardless. It also shows him growing more hopeful and believes in things enough to want to fight for them.
Fantasy + Royal/Political (kind of) Drama: A peaceful magical kingdom has thrived for 300 years, thanks to one foundational lie, told by its first queen. The truth is inscribed in a sealed vault that only opens when her last descendant dies. The protagonist, a loyal royal advisor and guardian of the secret, discovers the queen’s only heir is dying - and the vault will open. With war on the horizon, the truth inside the vault could incite rebellion or dissolve the kingdom. The truth is not just damaging... it reveals that the kingdom itself was founded on betrayal, murder, and a pact with something otherworldly. But not telling it requires killing the heir to keep the vault sealed forever. The hero(s) finding this info out has a big moral dilemna here - preserve peace by committing a quiet evil? Or honour truth and risk everything?
Let me know which idea is your favourite! And if you'll attempt any one of these yourself.
Thanks for the ask, @beginning-of-wisdom. This was a lot of fun!!

New fic not the sequel to the last one.
Ballerina Swords
Suna is a very capable girl with a brilliant mind and bright ideas, have many dreams when she is young. She once dreamed of being a singer, another time she dreamed of being a chef, she dreamed about being a mechanic. She have many dreams like any other children would, she start to pick and choose her dreams as she gets older.
Being a singer, she can sing but doesn't enjoy it much, it strain her throat a bit.
Being a chef, she manage to make a good meal but doesn't want to cook often, it takes a lot of work unlike her brother who at first was reluctant but slowly start to enjoy it.
Being a violinist, she start her music class when she was in third grade and choose the violinist with her best friend Iris at the time. She stopped rehearsing with her violin after her last meeting with her best friend in the hospital.
Being a carpenter, it was hard for her to cut woods and very scared of wood dust collecting in her lungs and splinters on her fingers.
Being an engineer, despite being able to do it easily, the task exhausted her and she doesn't enjoy the over complicated instruction and limitation from the guidelines, she only enjoyed it once it's over. Ever since then, she only engineer her own personal projects.
Being a musician, she can't even write a poem let alone a song.
Being a dancer, she was signing up for a dance class and then enlist herself in a ballet class out of curiosity, she did well and it's enough for her. She wasn't into ballet at first but she begin to enjoy the process, the learning, and survive the struggle. Despite all the flaws people tell about ballet, she doesn't hate it, it's never a problem let alone a problem that occur to her.
She keep on dancing in her class until a school talent show comes up, she was nervous for her first school performance but her family was there for her, always. She performance with all the best efforts she can pull and gave a perfect performance on her solo dance as part of the show. The audience claps echo through the walls and beyond, her family cheer with her father finish recording her first ever successful performance and her brother throw fake flowers to her with a shining smile.
At that moment, she settled for this ballerina dream. She was happy and ready to face all the ups and downs as a ballerina, with all the unbridled joy her 12 year old self showcased, young Suna smile and laugh at her victory. A moment forever captured in a single picture by her father.
If only she can settle for the sweet whimsy ballerina dream, never be burden by the heavy responsibility she will have later.
As much as she enjoy being a ballerina, she start working in her science project more and more enjoying the process of science just like how she enjoy her training as a ballerina. But a hobby become crucial after so many dangerous robots start terrorizing the city. Fortunately her younger brother, Aki discovered his hidden powers and she vow to protect his secret for him even from their father, nothing in the world is more important than her family, especially her brother, the half to her heart.
She watch as her brother wins every advertise upon him, no matter how dangerous the robot masters are, she believes her brother will be alright at the end. Days goes by, her brother fought more and more dangerous foes than the last, her worry grew day by day, fight after every fight, injuries after every injuries she have to helped cover up. As much as he said he was fine, her instinct told her otherwise. She knew she was over reacting and she hope her brother can prove her wrong this time.
She's the big sister.
She should've known.....
She's always right.
How she wish she was wrong.
She keep wishing he will be alright even after a bloody battle against his foes even when mini said he will, but it doesn't stop her from crying as she fix Megaman butchered state after the fight against Obsidian.
She breath heavily as she try to keep herself steady to fix him. Trying so hard to breath, to focus, not to cry at the baby brother she dearly love in his sorry state.
Ever since then, she have her back up plans for the worse. Use all her free time for her latest projects, make sure it'll be ready soon.
It wasn't long until she become Zero, the masked sword fighter. She train harder than ever to protect her family and her own. She promised herself she will save her family in dire situation. She knows Aki is too stubborn to ask for help, so is her father, her lost brother, and her. runs in the family.
Being Zero wasn't a dream, it was a necessity. She dance with her sword as she cut her enemies, she use her skills to the fullest and put all of her strengths, rage, grief, and determination to defend and attack. She was unstoppable but humans have their limitations, and she is still skilled and strong for a 15 year old. But she is 15, there are so many things she can achieve, so many dreams and hope, all the potential in her, all are on hold as the fight for lives matter more than her dreams.
She never regrets or wishes for something different, she is lying if she said she doesn't enjoy the fight. She just wish, she can be Zero and can be the same ballerina girl she enjoys to be.
Well....
Suna is a multi-tasker too....
She will find a way.....

👫 for the relationship hcs ♡
ㅤㅤ𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗢𝗡𝗦ㅤ|ㅤ@vessmarㅤ| ㅤaccepting!
we lightly touched on this, but i genuinely think håkan learns a lot from vesper regarding mechanics and engineering. he is extremely fascinated by how differently vess thinks when considering inventions and explorations, and i can see vess slowly becoming someone that håkan comes to first when he has a new idea. also, håkan tends to shut himself inside his forge when he is highly focused on a new project, but vess would be one of the few people with a spare key to come in whenever! he values his opinion and input a great deal, but i think the moment his eyes sparkle the most is when vess challenges him to think outside the box. even if sometimes håkan may be too stubborn to see it any other way. he will gruff and try to prove himself right, but he knows when to concede. i can 100% see vess smiling silently and knowingly whenever that happens, like. he doesn't even need to say anything. håkan will babble on how yes, yes, he is right, fine, fine!
i can see the two of them being early birds. håkan wakes up early so he can go on flights with toothless, look over berk and check to see if the village is in need of anything. maybe because of anthi, vess also wakes up early? this is a tiny detail, but imagining them becoming early stroll buddies is so cute. the peacefulness of it all, y'know??
håkan absolutely adores anthi, and this may be self-indulgent, but i'd love to believe that anthi adores him, too! every now and then, håkan will offer to babysit her so that vess can do his own thing, or when vesper needs to travel, etc. anthi probably told a lot of vess' "secrets" (i.e, vess' favourite foods or how he sometimes snores when he sleeps, etc) to håkan, and håkan will absolutely take those to his grave. she maaaaay or may not know a few secrets from the chieftain, too.
they are both huge gift-givers and smiths at heart, right? so you know something adorable that i can think of? sometimes, whenever they buy new materials, they will divide them in half, select a theme, and try to woo the other with their inventions. a mini smithing competition challenge, so to speak! anthi had to judge who made the best birdhouse or kitchen tools a couple of times. i don't think either of them would be too competitive and take it too seriously, but gods, the thrill of wondering what the other will think of? so exhilarating!
#vessmar#they mean so much to me moss please#i just love the thought of hic carrying anthi around too#either on his arm or giving her a piggyback#and oh lets not forget how vess would become one of håkan's trusted men too.... literally counts on him :')#ㅤ〞ᛡᚤᛂᛁᛐᛆㅤ\ㅤ𝖳𝖤𝖱𝖱𝖮𝖱 𝖬𝖠𝖨𝖫 𝖱𝖤𝖢𝖤𝖨𝖵𝖤𝖣ㅤ⨳ㅤanswered.

Three Accidental Shortish Reviews
They asked us to write a few, like, "staff's picks" at the shop and if you know me I love getting to ramble about video games I think people should play. I figured those little blurbs are worth sharing/preserving here too.
So I guess here's three mini reviews/recommendations from yours truly. No spoilers or anything really.
Titanfall 2 feel like if you approached designing a first person shooter with the inventiveness and sheer tightness you find in Mario games. It’s not hard for me to say that Titanfall 2’s campaign is far and away the best FPS campaign I’ve played, with singular levels more memorable than some entire games I’ve played. If you’ve played Apex Legends at all you’ve already got some baseline familiarity with the mechanics at play, although instead of a battle royal playground you’re instead led through impressively thought out levels with gimmicks each more memorable than the last. It’s not the sort of shooter where you’re just hiding behind cover mowing down waves of enemies in a generic warzone. Instead you’re running across walls or jumping into your mech while fighting through an assembly line or playing with reality bending mechanics straight out of Portal.
If you consider yourself a fan of shooters, especially those with satisfying movement and creative levels- Titanfall 2 is a must play. It is as important to the genre as something like Half-Life or the original Modern Warfare, Titanfall 2 not only helped form the basis of modern movement shooters, but its engine and core mechanics have been adapted into further projects from the company. Even if you never touch the multiplayer, Titanfall 2 is a game well worth your time and one that will make you wish for more shooters that are half as creative with their run time and level layouts.
Viva Piñata is one of those little gems that’s only so underappreciated because it lives on the Xbox. If it were a Nintendo title people would be intensely angry every time a new entry wasn’t announced any given Direct. Instead Viva Piñata lives on the console of Halo and Gears of War, and thus this novel little garden tending simulator lives in the periphery of most peoples’ memories. It doesn’t help that the 4Kids produced cartoon anthropomorphized the cute Piñata animals into over the top 4Kids caricatures and likely gave many people an impression that Viva Piñata was something it wasn’t. In the actual game the piñatas act much closer to their real world counterparts than they do cartoon characters, with the game’s main focus centering on cultivating a garden that welcomes a wide variety of piñata to live in it. You’re essentially a backyard ecologist, helping bolster populations and keep the circle of life in check with not too many predator or prey piñata overtaking your garden.
In what feels like a marriage of Pokémon and Harvest Moon, Viva Piñata's a simple game that offers just enough depth to engage more adept players and overflows with charm that’ll enrapture most anyone who likes the idea of tending a fantastical animal sanctuary. If you pick only one Viva Piñata game, Trouble in Paradise is essentially feels like the original game with an added expansion built in. However if you wish to play on modern consoles both games are included in Rare Replay, a collection of 30 games from Rare’s history including Banjo Kazooie, all of which are playable in 3D on your current gen Xbox. And if that wasn’t good enough, Rare Replay comes in a double pack with Gears of War Ultimate Edition that sells for like thirteen dollars. So if everything said about Viva Piñata wasn’t enough to convince you, it also comes with a few dozen other games just in case you weren’t convinced it was worth a shot.
Most everyone well versed in the gaming sphere knows the tale of Final Fantasy’s origins. A desperate Square on the verge of collapse poured all their passion and effort into a last ditch effort- their Final Fantasy. A few decades later and Final Fantasy stands as a monolith of the industry, standing as perhaps the most dominant MMO of the modern day and with more entries than most franchises could ever dream of. So perhaps it was only fitting that for their sixteenth entry they decided to radically shift the course of the franchise. Final Fantasy XVI is no turn based RPG, in fact one could say its RPG elements at times feel borderline vestigial. But despite this brazen turn away from the genre it once defined, Final Fantasy confidently steps into its new future by asking one simple question. What if these fights felt and looked as cool as we always imagined they’d be?
In what feels like an earnest embrace of the bombastic nature of blockbuster games and cinema, Final Fantasy has turned itself into a feverishly fast character action game in the same sorts of conversations as Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. It helps, of course, that both DMC 5’s director and Platinum Games worked on the combat of Final Fantasy XVI. All star developers all came together to create a game that truly feels bombastic and triumphant. The story has shades of Game of Thrones in all the best ways with political machinations a plenty and villains so vile you’ll want to yell at the screen. Each combat encounter is a frantic dash as you cycle through abilities and dodge massive attacks at the last possible second. When you get in the zone the game feels incredible, with such freedom of expression in your combat even from early stages that by the time you hit midgame you’re swimming in ways to style on all of Final Fantasy’s most iconic foes. If any game justifies the PS5, it is Final Fantasy XVI. It’s an angry game about overthrowing horribly corrupt systems, a game about not just earning a good death, but living a good life- and what doing so requires. And even if you don’t care about that narrative stuff, it’s the most electrifying action game I’ve played since Hades. Final Fantasy may have stepped away from what it is known for, but I am confident it was a step firmly in the right direction.

Top Skills You’ll Learn in a Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Course
In a world that’s rapidly embracing automation, machine intelligence, and smart systems, careers in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) are more promising than ever. From healthcare robots to self-driving cars and intelligent customer support systems, AI and robotics are becoming integral to modern life.
If you're considering robotics and artificial intelligence courses, you're not just choosing a degree — you're preparing to be part of a technological revolution. But what exactly will you learn in such a program? Let’s explore the most important skills these courses help you develop, and how they prepare you for the future of innovation.
Programming Fundamentals for AI and Robotics
Whether a robot arm on a manufacturing floor or a chatbot handling customer queries, everything begins with programming. Students learn core languages such as:
Python: Widely used in AI and machine learning applications.
C/C++: Essential for embedded systems and robotic control.
Java: Useful in software development and some machine learning frameworks.
Understanding data structures, control flow, and algorithms is foundational for writing efficient code for intelligent systems.
Machine Learning and Deep Learning Techniques
At the heart of AI lies machine learning — the ability for machines to learn from data. Students gain practical knowledge of:
Supervised and unsupervised learning
Neural networks and deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch
Natural Language Processing (NLP) for text and voice-based AI systems
These skills are critical for creating models that can analyze data, make predictions, and improve over time.
Robotics System Design and Control
In robotics, it’s all about building machines that sense, think, and act. You'll learn how to:
Design mechanical structures and integrate them with electronics
Work with sensors (like LIDAR, cameras, gyros) and actuators
Apply control systems theory to ensure precise movements and decisions
These concepts are essential in developing autonomous systems, from robotic arms to drones.
Embedded Systems and IoT Integration
Modern robots and smart devices often rely on embedded systems mini-computers that perform dedicated functions. You'll learn to:
Program microcontrollers (like Arduino or Raspberry Pi)
Work with real-time operating systems
Connect devices using IoT protocols (like MQTT)
This hands-on knowledge is critical for building responsive and connected devices.
Computer Vision and Image Processing
Robots and AI systems need eyes — and that’s where computer vision comes in. This skill allows machines to:
Interpret visual data from cameras or sensors
Recognize objects, track movements, and detect patterns
Use tools like OpenCV to process and analyze images
Applications range from facial recognition to robotic navigation.
AI Ethics and Responsible Innovation
With great power comes great responsibility. As AI systems become more influential, engineers must understand:
Ethical implications of automation and decision-making
Bias in AI models
Data privacy and security concerns
Courses now include modules that prepare students to design responsible and inclusive technologies.
Soft Skills for Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
It’s not all about tech. Robotics and AI projects often involve teamwork across domains. You’ll develop:
Communication and presentation skills
Project management techniques
Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities
These soft skills ensure that your innovative ideas are clearly conveyed and efficiently executed in real-world scenarios.
Real-World Projects and Internships
A good robotics and AI course doesn't end with classroom theory. Students gain experience through:
Capstone projects where they design, build, and deploy AI or robotic systems
Industry internships that provide exposure to real-world applications
Hackathons and competitions that encourage innovation under pressure
This kind of hands-on experience is crucial in standing out during placements and job interviews.
Choosing the Right Institution Matters
The quality of your learning experience depends heavily on where you study. The best robotics and artificial intelligence courses provide a mix of strong academic foundation, practical labs, and industry exposure.
At NITTE University, particularly through its NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT), students receive a future-focused education that combines cutting-edge theory with real-world skills. With dedicated labs, advanced AI and robotics curriculum, and partnerships with industry leaders, NMAMIT prepares students not just for today’s tech world—but for the challenges of tomorrow.

18.03.2025 (Week three) - Day nine of working on my game
Weekly Goals (From Timetable I wrote beforehand):
Keep 3D modelling the level and environment for the game and use feedback to alter and change if needed.
If all finished import to Unreal Engine and begin building level up, after finishing building it do play testing to see if it’s all sized correctly/working.
Start to slowly code into the game as well if there's time.
Daily goals:
Continue building my game level in Unreal Engine.
Continue model making within Maya.
As it's Wednesday I don't expect to get a lot done due to it being only a couple hours to actually get work done, but my main goal for today is to get my kitchen idea done.
I started out with where I left off with my shelves yesterday as I wanted to make some cardboard boxes for them as more decoration in game, so I began my day by doing that in Maya.
I made two variants of one being opened and the other closed so that there was different types rather than just being one kind of box copied and pasted around the map.
With those done I then went onto making my kitchen design for my game.
I want a key card to be hidden somewhere in the kitchen so I wanted to make sure the room is decorated properly and not just basic looking, so I began by looking up retro/vintage 1960's era kitchens for inspiration and as a base reference point when making my models.
With a previous screenshot I got from Bloxburg I chose these two as my initial idea for a fridge and kitchen counter, so I then made a mood board of them both with looking more into that general look.
I want to use the same design that it has in Bloxburg but change the colour as I like how back then they had quite vibrant/uniquely coloured fridges, so I want to feature that in my game as it looks really cool to me.
With this in mind I stayed in Maya in the same project I had previously made my cardboard boxes in moments before as it would be easier to export, and I began to model my fridge.
With my kitchen I did think about things like an oven but decided against it as I want to eventually make sort of mini tin cans for my kitchen as in space rather than having an oven.
I've also never seen anywhere where a oven is in space so I thought it would make sense to just not feature one.
With my fridge I made it slightly opened so it looked more detailed rather than it just being closed, I also want to add a few of my pre-existing blood splats at the bottom of my fridge to make it more ominous when you go inside the kitchen.
I decided to go for a sort of light blue for my fridge alongside my counters being a kind of darker blue so then they aren't exact copies of each other.
I also made a table and decided to just reuse my desk chair that I'd made previously as it was quicker to do and I saw no reason to make a new type of chair.
With all that done I then went into Unreal Engine after exporting it all and began to place the items in the room where I designated it to be the kitchen from the beginning.
I plan to place the keycard in the trash or maybe the fridge but I'll think of that when I actually come to making it as that's my goal for next week.
With everything placed I then put the roof on and made it night to see what it would look like and I'm really pleased with how this came out even with only a couple hours to actually work on it.
Final notes of the day:
Weekly Goals (From Timetable I wrote beforehand):
Keep 3D modelling the level and environment for the game and use feedback to alter and change if needed. (DONE)
If all finished import to Unreal Engine and begin building level up, after finishing building it do play testing to see if it’s all sized correctly/working. (DONE)
Start to slowly code into the game as well if there's time. (DONE)
I'm really happy with what I've gotten so far in my game as I've added most of my level design, the flashlight mechanic, the crouching mechanic, smoke effects, and more lighting for my game.
Next week I want to start working on my keycards and doors to try and get those done so I can then work on my monster/alien and making jumpscares within my game.

INDUSTRY FOREFRONT 5: LEVEL PROTOTYPING WITH SUPERGRID
BLOG 20: PHASE 2 (PRODUCTION)
One of the most important phases of the game development process is level prototyping. It entails developing fundamental arrangements and frameworks that streamline environment design and offer a distinct idea of how the game's scenes will fit together. This first step establishes the assets required to construct a fully realized environment and aids in comprehending the spatial relationships within a level.
youtube
Supergrid as a Tool
Supergrid is one exceptional tool in this regard. This is a very useful tool for level design, especially when games are switching to new engines. One prominent instance is Valorant, which switched to the Unreal Engine lately. Supergrid was instrumental in this change, helping to rebuild the maps in the new engine. In the video I watched, Supergrid's mesh series were used to prototype, showing how they can expedite the level design process. This methodology not only enables more effective prototyping but also guarantees that the final stages are organized and visually consistent.
Level Prototyping: The Foundation of Game Development
Level prototyping is a crucial stage in the game development process. It involves creating basic layouts and structures that simplify environment design and provide a clear vision of how the game’s scenes will come together. This initial step helps in understanding the spatial relationships within a level and determines the assets needed to build a fully realized environment.
One standout tool in this regard is Supergrid. I’ve used Supergrid before, and I find it to be a highly convenient tool that simplifies the entire prototyping process. Its effectiveness is not just anecdotal; even AAA game titles have utilized Supergrid for its efficiency. A notable example is Valorant, which recently transitioned to Unreal Engine and employed Supergrid for rebuilding maps within the new engine. This video demonstrated how a series of meshes from Supergrid were used to prototype complex levels, highlighting its role in streamlining the design workflow.
For my current project, I am planning to create a maze-like map for a mini game to better showcase my game mechanics. Using Supergrid will facilitate the development of this prototype, allowing me to visualize and refine the gameplay elements effectively.
