The Surucuá community in the state of Pará is the first to receive an Amazonian Creative Laboratory, a compact mobile biofactory designed to help kick-start the Amazon’s bioeconomy.
Instead of simply harvesting forest-grown crops, traditional communities in the Amazon Rainforest can use the biofactories to process, package and sell bean-to-bar chocolate and similar products at premium prices.
Having a livelihood coming directly from the forest encourages communities to stay there and protect it rather than engaging in harmful economic activities in the Amazon.
The project is in its early stages, but it demonstrates what the Amazon’s bioeconomy could look like: an economic engine that experts estimate could generate at least $8 billion per year.
In a tent in the Surucuá community in the Brazilian Amazonian state of Pará, Jhanne Franco teaches 15 local adults how to make chocolate from scratch using small-scale machines instead of grinding the cacao beans by hand. As a chocolatier from another Amazonian state, Rondônia, Franco isn’t just an expert in cocoa production, but proof that the bean-to-bar concept can work in the Amazon Rainforest.
“[Here] is where we develop students’ ideas,” she says, gesturing to the classroom set up in a clearing in the world’s greatest rainforest. “I’m not here to give them a prescription. I want to teach them why things happen in chocolate making, so they can create their own recipes,” Franco tells Mongabay.
The training program is part of a concept developed by the nonprofit Amazônia 4.0 Institute, designed to protect the Amazon Rainforest. It was conceived in 2017 when two Brazilian scientists, brothers Carlos and Ismael Nobre, started thinking of ways to prevent the Amazon from reaching its impending “tipping point,” when deforestation turns the rainforest into a dry savanna.
Their solution is to build a decentralized bioeconomy rather than seeing the Amazon as a commodity provider for industries elsewhere. Investments would be made in sustainable, forest-grown crops such as cacao, cupuaçu and açaí, rather than cattle and soy, for which vast swaths of the forest have already been cleared. The profits would stay within local communities.
A study by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the New Climate Economy, published in June 2023, analyzed 13 primary products from the Amazon, including cacao and cupuaçu, and concluded that even this small sample of products could grow the bioeconomy’s GDP by at least $8 billion per year.
To add value to these forest-grown raw materials requires some industrialization, leading to the creation of the Amazonian Creative Laboratories (LCA). These are compact, mobile and sustainable biofactories that incorporate industrial automation and artificial intelligence into the chocolate production process, allowing traditional communities to not only harvest crops, but also process, package and sell the finished products at premium prices.
The logic is simple: without an attractive income, people may be forced to sell or use their land for cattle ranching, soy plantations, or mining. On the other hand, if they can make a living from the forest, they have an incentive to stay there and protect it, becoming the Amazon’s guardians.
“The idea is to translate this biological and cultural wealth into economic activity that’s not exploitative or harmful,” Ismael Nobre tells Mongabay."

Please stop giving your leg amputees weird robot toes. I don't know why this is as much if a pet peeve to me as it is, but there's a reason why even the most advanced prosthetics irl don't have them and its not because the tech isnt there yet (kind of).
Making that many joints so close together is very difficult and will make the foot increadibly heavy for function that can mostly be replicated by a sheet of bendy carbon fibre (what irl prosthetic feet are usually made of). That many articulated joints are hard to control (even on hands, it's a challenge, and your hands dont have to weight bare), they will add a lot of weight, and will mean more power will be needed. Not to mention the joints would be points of weakness in an area that will be, at some stages in the walk cycle, bearing the majority of user's weight. Unless your character is going to be using their prosthetic feet as hands to grab things like that villain from Kim Possible, they are more trouble than they're worth, and your character doesn't need them.
Tumblr media
And look, if the reason you want to give them robot toes is because you have a thing for feet... why did you make them a foot amputee, of all disabilities lol? Odd choices aside, if that's the reason, just be honest about it, because why else is it always "sexy cyborg" type characters that have them?
Joking aside, the goal of a prosthetic is not (usually) to look as similar to "the real thing" as possible, it's to improve mobility. As such, sometimes the best solution will not be what looks the most "normal with a robot aesthetic twist". In the event looking like the real thing is the main goal, we already have the tech for that. Many prosthetics have silicone covers that look so realistic you wouldn't be able to tell unless you can see the top of the socket (where the artificial limb meets the real thing) and you don't have to give up much mobility or functionality to use them, since that carbon fibre sheet I mention just gets hidden inside the cover.
Signed an amputee who finds your pudgy little foot fingers unsettling and wishes people would stop giving robot ones to characters unnecessarily for the sake of making something that looks "normal".
[ID: an animated gif of a character from Kim Possible in a red dressing gown, using his hand-like feet to pour himself some tea. he places the tea pot down and it focuses on his hands, in a close up. the caption reads "and risk damaging these hands?" /end ID]

Most useful and actionable thing I have to say about antifascist praxis besides ‘punch them very hard’ is probably that fascists (and insurgent dominionists) very rarely come to power just through violence and manipulation (without either the aid of a foreign power or an extremely strong basis in the military); they build up a social, political, cultural, and paramilitary counterpower on a wave of genuine popular support, by filling voids where the state has retreated or is stretched too thin and which the left has failed to resolve. The most effective way to do this is by satisfying material needs, e.g. Golden Dawn’s blood/clothes/food drives or housing squats by Italian fascists. The goal of a fascist movement trying to claw its way to ‘Stage 2’ is to build and mobilize an entire alternative society in as many strata of their ingroup as possible. Sometimes they operate in tandem with the state – if the state has withdrawn, it probably prefers that the gap be filled by someone who will uphold ‘class unity’ and social hierarchy – but other times they’re forcefully usurping it. The point is, though, that autonomous self-organization – the state does not leave a power vacuum because the people are not powerless – is the only real solution; fascists can’t organize communities that are already organized.

pairing: major john "bucky" egan x black fem oc (major lanessa "nessa" dixon) content: the bond between nessa and john begins to grow. warnings: medical inaccuracies. an: Nessa is inspired by major della raney jackson, first black major of the army nurse corps. tag list: @neeville @turn-thy-paige @ihe4rtisa @ineedafictionalman @lovebyceleste @alliewassobonum
Tumblr media
“You know, Dixon, you’re really pretty.”
Nessa’s hands halted momentarily. She raised her gaze to meet his blue eyes, which twinkled with mischief and temptation. She squinted slightly and shook her head. She nodded toward his arm which he raised just slightly.
Weeks had passed since the gunshot and he had made significant progress. He was able to start physical therapy early with her and a series of shadowing nurses, but, with his job, Nessa made it a priority to ensure he was in the best shape. He missed flying and she wanted to make sure he was able to get to at least one more mission before everything was said and done.
“Is that so?” Nessa questioned, pulling the bandages off his healing wounds. Her gloved fingers traced the scar. It was healing nicely; the swelling was going down, the stitches were still in place, and the tissue was scarring healthily. She felt John jump at her touch.
John nodded. Her knee nudged his thigh which prompted him to spread his legs just wide enough for her to stand between them. He hummed at the warmth that entered his space and fought an internal battle to keep his hand to himself. To run his fingertips along the curves that were prominent even with being covered by thick pants.
Nessa turned and swiped cleaning solution, cotton pads, and bandage off the side table. The cooling solution was ice against body, which seemed to heat in her presence. Nessa’s left hand held the cotton in place as her right placed the bandage across his chest. Her hands were small against his body and they felt so good.
“Well, thank you. You’re too kind. Lift your arm for me, beloved.” That was new, John noted. He obeyed her command. “How does that feel?” Better, he admitted. Nessa started him out on light exercises to regain mobility, and while it wasn’t as painful as it had been in the beginning stages, he still felt discomfort.
“Are you lying to me, Major?” She asked teasingly, tilting her head to search any signs of discomfort on his face. His eyebrows were slightly knitted together and his jaw was locked she poked his shoulder. He failed to meet her eyes. “Thought so.”
He rolled his eyes and sighed heavily, “I don’t want to deal with this shit.” Nessa hummed and removed herself from her position between his legs and crawled over the bed. She was positioned on her knees and she cleared her throat. “What are you doing?
She peeled the gloves off her hands and shoved them in her pocket. She moved her hair over her shoulder and placed her hands on his shoulders.“Relax, Egan.” Her touch was gentle as she used her left hand to control his elbow while stabilizing his shoulder with her right. Slowly, she moved his stiff limb forward, backward, upwards, and downward until the wincing was no more.
It was painfully intimate, she noted. Two military professionals in the infirmary by themselves on a small bed together. Granted, she was doing her job, but something about the interaction felt different. She found herself enjoying it. Of course she enjoyed being a nurse; it was her passion. But this was different. Not only did she feel needed, but she felt wanted, too. It was an unusual feeling that she couldn’t shake.
“How about now?” Nessa’s voice was hardly above a whisper. John turned his head though not far enough to look her in the eyes. She did see, however, the fullness of his lips as he replied, “A lot better.”
“Good,” she replied, seemingly infatuated with the ridges of his back. She tried to control herself, but it was a losing battle. Her fingertip traced the scar that went from the center of his back to his right shoulder. She remembered the story. His plane was struck and he needed to evacuate and a piece of the parachute contraption cut through his jacket and sliced through his flesh. “That’s good.”
At the low groan he released, which sounded heavenly, she snapped back to reality and dropped her hand. She stammered embarrassingly and scrambled off the bed. “I’m glad you’re feeling better. Go ahead and get your shirt on; I’ll grab the ice, and get you off to bed.”
John’s voice was stuck in his throat. “Nessa,” he called, but by the time the last syllable slipped from his lips, she was already in the neighboring room, gathering ice.
She didn’t say much when she returned. She instructed him to lay on his back so she could properly ice his shoulder. John’s blue eyes burned holes into her head as she massaged the ice against his skin.
“Are you okay?” he found himself asking. Nessa nodded once, “I’m okay.”
He gave her a look. She gave him a closed-lip smile. She repeated, “I’m okay. We’ll ice for five more minutes and you can be on your way.”
The five minutes passed quicker than he would have liked. They engaged in small conversation, being that’s all he could get out of her at the point. Her demeanor had shifted greatly, and while he wanted to question it, John didn’t want to pressure her to speak.
“You’re good to go,” Nessa said, tossing the bag of ice on a nearby surface.
As John prepared to leave the infirmary, Nessa's gaze lingered on him, a mixture of emotions swirling in her eyes. She wanted to say something, to express the thoughts racing through her mind, but the words remained trapped in her throat. Instead, she offered a small, hesitant smile, hoping he would understand the silent message behind it.
John met her gaze, his eyes reflecting a similar uncertainty, yet tinged with a hint of desire. With a nod of gratitude, he stood up from the bed, his shoulder feeling much better than before.
As he turned to leave, he paused at the doorway, casting one last glance back at Nessa. In that fleeting moment, they shared an unspoken connection, a silent acknowledgment of the bond that was forming between them. With a final nod, John stepped out into the corridor, leaving Nessa alone with her thoughts, her heart beating a little faster than usual. What had she done?

just came across this blog. in love with the idea of plants with mobile / "bug"-like seeds. how does gardening / farming work when the seeds might not stay where you planted them?
Depends a lot on the species! Feathervanes have developed a variety of strategies for dispersing, and some have evolved out of motile life stages entirely! However, for the motile species that do get farmed, those that don’t naturally die after a couple of days are usually drowned or smoked to kill the gametophyte while preserving the spore within prior to planting, and the mechanical act of pressing them into the dirt often damages the legs anyway.
However, the real challenge is figuring out how to harvest them before they wander off. There are plenty of solutions to this as well, but here are a few common examples;
Exhibit a: simple cultivate a crop whose gametophytes are too large or clumsy to escape the ovary. This crop derived from a plant whose “walking seeds” were built to emerge simultaneously in a very short time span, and before the development of this cultivar its harvest had to be carefully timed to *just* before emergence time.
Tumblr media
Exhibit b: A treelike species whose gametophytes climb the tall stalk of the parent and wait on the branches to be carried off by avians. While collecting them from branch tips is possible, many farmers found it much easier to simply attach a disc a few feet above the ground to halt their progress to hard to access heights.
Exhibit c: Moats/trenches are utilized both as an efficient growing technique and to trap any escaping gametophytes, which can then be scooped up from the bottom.

We have been Betrayed, Backstabbed, Bamboozled: The Future of Elysian Eclipse
So, if you are active on our Discord, you know that EE is made in the Unity Engine and the CEO just decided to massively fuck over all the devs who are using it...
Callum Upton made a great video explaining the situation:
youtube
But it gets even worse!
Unity since defended themselves, saying that these fees are only affecting 10% of their customers, because of the $200k and $1m thresholds, so Indie devs don't have to worry about that.
…which isn't true:
Unity Plus
They aren't only introducing these fees but also changed the regular pricing plans! They just removed "Unity Plus" which is the lowest tier and costs about $50/month per dev with taxes. This is what most indies use. The next higher tier costs QUADROUPLE that amount and is also required to remove the universally loathed "made with Unity" splash screen. Oh! And if you have the personal tier, you won't be able to use Unity offline anymore! It now needs to do a license check every 3 days to function!
Unity's Ad Service
The fees will hit devs that do free-to-play mobile stuff especially hard, since they still have to pay the fees even when the players don't buy anything, meaning they could end up owing Unity more than they make in income. But what's this? If you use Unity's advertising service for your game, you will get a discount on the fees! The majority of mobile games run on Unity, meaning they are trying to monopolize the mobile ad market with this!
Publishers
Elysian Eclipse has caught the interest of a really big studio and publisher, who is considering to handle the marketing and publishing for the game. They are obviously planning to make the game come out big with sales, going beyond Unity's thresholds. But since the game is made in Unity, they probably now have to reconsider that carefully, since that would cause a massive amount of fees with Unity's new pricing model. So any game using Unity is now an instant turn-off for publishers, also massively hurting indie devs who don't reach that income threshold yet.
Tumblr media
What will happen now?
So, Unity can't be trusted anymore and should be seen as a major threat to us and the gaming industry. Even if they walk back on some of these decisions, what has been said, has been said. They showed that they don't care about destroying thousands of games, as long as it nets them profit, so who knows what they are going to do next?
I will pause the development of Elysian Eclipse and release the Patreon demo, including all the prototypes like Aquatic Stage for free today. I canceled my subscription and it will run out next year, so Unity isn't getting a single cent from my games anymore.
Unreal Eclipse?
In the meantime I'll focus on improving my C++ skills, so I can work more effectively in Unreal Engine 5. Unreal is the current industry leader, offering much better solutions for graphics and performance for 3D games. It is also partially open source and completely free until you reach $1 million in revenue.
It is unlikely that I will be able to just translate the game from C# to C++ and port it over, since it is using a lot of engine-specific features. This basically means, we will start from scratch... I can't tell yet how much work this will be or in what ways the game will change.
But one thing, you can always be certain of: I will NEVER BETRAY MY DREAM. I will finish this project, no matter who or what stands in my way. I hope you will continue to support me on this journey.
That being said,
FUCK JOHN RICCITIELLO!!
Fucking cunt.

Strange Symmetries #03: Eerie Early Echinoderms
Represented today by starfish, brittle stars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, and crinoids, the echinoderms have a characteristic five-way radial symmetry that makes them barely even recognizable as bilaterians. Their true ancestry is only revealed by their genetics and their larvae, which still retain bilateral symmetry – and the way they metamorphose into adults is bizarre, essentially growing a whole new radial body from within the left side of their larval body.
(Sea cucumbers and sand dollars are superficially bilateral as adults, but evolved this secondarily on top of their existing radial symmetry. And some adult echinoderms like starfish also seem to retain a little bit of "behavioral bilaterism", generally preferring to move with a specific arm always acting as their "front" end.)
The first known echinoderms appeared in the fossil record during the early Cambrian, about 525 million years ago, but the common ancestor of the whole group probably actually originated a few tens of millions of years earlier in the mid-to-late Ediacaran. Early echinoderms seem to have started off as flattened animals that sat on the seafloor filter-feeding, and with this largely immobile way of life their bodies started to shift into asymmetry, no longer constrained by the locomotory advantages of being bilaterally symmetric.
In fact, for these early sedentary filter-feeders being radial was actually much more advantageous, able to distribute sense organs all around their bodies and grab food from any direction without having to reposition themselves, converging on the lifestyle of non-bilaterian cnidarian polyps. The evolutionary transition from bilateral to asymmetrical to pentaradial seems to have happened incredibly quickly during the Cambrian Explosion, and all modern echinoderms probably evolved from a group called the edrioasteroids, maintaining their new base body plan even when they later began taking up more mobile lifestyles again.
But during the process of all that some very alien-looking lineages split off at various stages of anatomical weirdness.
Stylophorans had asymmetrical bodies with a single feeding arm at the front, and varied from irregular boot-like shapes to almost bilateral heart shapes depending on their specific ecologies. The highly asymmetrical forms were probably spreading their weight out over soft soupy mud in quiet waters, while the more bilateral forms may have been more streamlined to deal with stronger water currents.
Tumblr media
Sokkaejaecystis serrata was a stylophoran that lived during the late Cambrian, about 501-488 million years ago, in what is now South Korea. It was tiny, only about 1cm long (~0.4"), and its boot-shaped body was surrounded by spines and flanges that spread out its surface area and probably also made it much more awkward for small predators to attempt to eat.
———
Meanwhile the solutes started off as immobile animals living attached to the seafloor via a stalk-like appendage. But fairly early in their evolution they switched to a more active mode of life, modifying their stems into tail-like "steles" that were used to push themselves along.
Tumblr media
Maennilia estonica lived in what is now Estonia during the late Ordovician, about 450 million years ago. It was quite large for a solute at about 12cm long (~4.7"), with a sort of vaguely-trapezoidal body, a short feeding arm, and a long thin stele.
Both of these strange early echinoderm lineages were surprisingly successful, surviving for a good chunk of the Paleozoic Era alongside their more familiar radial relatives. The solutes lasted until the early Devonian about 400 million years ago, and the stylophorans continued all the way into the late Carboniferous about 310 million years ago.

recently a Ubisoft exec apparently said that customers would have to get used to not owning their games for streaming and game services like game pass to really take off. What’s your take on that? Are we really headed to a place where none of us own our games anymore and we just rent them? If we buy games digitally do we actually own them? Can the rights to those games be taken away even after we paid for them?
As with most things, it's good to take the time to understand the nuance of what was said. The Ubisoft person doing the speaking was Philippe Tremblay and he is Director of Subscriptions at Ubisoft. In [the article], he was specifically talking about the mental shift that needs to happen in order for a subscription business model in games to really take hold, because game subscription services are really still in their early stages. Realistically speaking, subscriptions have one of two possible futures - an eventual plateau where subscriptions reach sustainability and equilibrium or an eventual crash because they couldn't.
Tumblr media
Look at digital music streaming services like Spotify. They have largely reached their plateau as a massive chunk of the music market. There are still people who buy physical albums, but they are in the minority. The majority of music consumers tend to listen to their music via streaming services and have gotten used to not owning their music. This is one possible future for video games.
Tumblr media
Let's contrast this with the current state of movie and tv streaming services. There's a huge number of streaming customers, but there are still strong physical media sales because the streaming services can't necessarily keep the shows and films the people want due to licensing issues. When this kind of volatility in the availability of the product is commonplace, it upsets the user base and puts them off of staying as subscribers. This is another possible future for video games.
Tumblr media
As for buying games digitally and "owning" them... well, not really? Like... we've known for ages that end of service for live games is the end of the road, barring player-run grey shards and the like. There are many MMOG, MOBA, looter shooter, mobile, etc. games that have been shut down permanently. Some kinds of games are inherently ownable and some are not.
Tumblr media
As player, it is largely up to us to decide what kind of games we want to support. Playing with a regular group of friends in a live service game is a huge amount of fun but absolutely not conducive to owning the game. Playing a single-player game by myself at my leisure is much more conducive to ownership, but I lose out on content updates and the camaraderie of playing with friends. It is my belief that we should all support the things we value. There are no solutions, only tradeoffs.

The Mirrorring of Army: Then and Now
I didn't expect my previous post to gain some hate, so here goes my third post of the day: There are good and bad side to every fandom, but if you spend so much time with the negative. All you will see or feel is that negativity. Yes, some of my experiences with Army have been frustrating, but it's like a sibling relationship. I will still be there for other Army and A LOT of my experiences have honestly been life changing in a good way. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this... In 2019 BTS performed at the GMA. Spoilers: Jikook were very cute. Army there at the time were told to leave quickly and they did, but then returned to pick up their trash or belongings. Last year when Jungkook's concert, also at GMA, got cancelled there was a lot of confusion and fear. Army helped each other to get shelter and reach home. Especially those who were not from the area or who had flown in from South Korea. This is simular to what happened at Busan when the mobile network went down and some I-Army got stranded. K-Army helped them reach their destinations when they got turned down by local taxis. When BTS did their recent concerts, there were A LOT of complaints about Army not singing along enough. It was obvious that the sound wasn't coming through properly on the stream, because you could hear the chants in fancams. However, there was a delay. Now that we have the PTD Behinds, the members THEMSELVES mentioned about how bad the sound reverb was. There was a delay on the sound in the stadium, depending on where you stood. That's why in some clips it sounds like the fan chants are massively out of sync.
There was also the belief that certain members would get zero cheers whilst on stage. I still do not understand where this lie came from, but it spread very far and hashtags were started. All the members got the loudest cheers I have heard. They always will. It was started to create fear and it started a chain reaction for no apparent reason, because so many like to assume the worse before getting their facts right. Army also helped each other whilst waiting in lines. Again, simular to what happened at James Corden in 2020.
Back in 2019 there were a lot more scandals or hate aimed towards the members than some of you might know of. However, they were dealt with in GC's or in private to prevent those hateful words from spreading. Now it's almost like this hatred is used to get engagement. Paddington, a know anti back then, even said that they would say things to try to get on Report Pages because it would help get them more attention. Antis follow our report pages to know which posts or accounts to boost. Boosted accounts are harder to take down because of the Twitter algorithm and it's why so many do beg to not engage with such posts. This includes using their name, responding or quoting. Is there an easy solution? I don't really know. But if you ever start to feel unsure, please step away and remember those good times: When MMA 2020 Jikook happened. When we donated money to the Beyond the Rainbow Foundation in South Korea after Yoon won his election. The happiness each Bangton or Run Episode brings. The joy we'll feel once Jin is back...

Why you should pick Mobile Stage Solution?
Considering where your main attraction will be is essential when planning your outdoor events for the year. There's no doubt you're going to need a stage. There are some advantages to using Mobile Stage Solution at outdoor events as opposed to traditional stage structures. Any event can be made successful with the use of mobile stages. What is a mobile stage? Let's find out.
Mobile Stage: what are they?
The mobile stage is a professional stage specifically designed to accommodate events that need to take place anywhere. Whether it's a small meeting or a large concert, they're an ideal choice. Mobile stages have the main advantage of being easy to assemble/disassemble (only 30 minutes) and being able to move anywhere and use all equipment throughout the day. Moreover, mobile stages can be used in any type of weather, so events can be held regardless of the weather.
Tumblr media
Mobile stages are a great choice for events. Why should you choose one?
For event productions, cost-effective solutions are becoming increasingly relevant. There are many benefits to mobile stages, including their affordability and cost-effectiveness. If you can spend the money on other elements of your event instead of staging, do so.
Stage technicians, also known as stage riggers, manipulate each part of the stage structure at heights during the construction of traditional staging structures. It is generally the case that these stages are constructed from scratch. All aspects of their life cycle are safe, including transportation, operation, and usage.

It's a sad inevitability that all good things come to an end, including our time with our Digimon. But, every ending is just a chance for a new beginning and with Digimon that means the start of a new growth cycle! Today we're going to be touching on the Digimon life cycle, focusing on how to care for a digitama and what to do while you wait for your partner's new life to begin!
First off, for the newer Tamers in the audience, Digimon do not "die" at the end of a growth cycle. Think of it more like a transformation; the Digimon will shed excess data and surround their Digicore in a hard protective shell while reforming their remaining data into a Stage I form. A Digimon is strictly speaking alive for every step of the process and even if we humans find it useful to assign terms like "brith" and "death" to the process, it's important to keep in mind that Digimon cultures tend to think of it more as a period of rest and rejuvenation rather than a strict end or start to one's life.
Next up we have the tamas themselves! Digitamas, or Digieggs if you prefer, are the natal stage of all Digimon with no real exceptions. Despite looking like the kind of eggs you'd find here on Earth, tamas are actually incredibly durable and require no outside heat to incubate. Fragments of tamas donated for research have been shown to withstand puncture wounds and small caliber fire without so much as a scratch! Lastly, Digitama also display a wide variety of colors and patterns. Patterns seem to be unique to the individual as there is no correlation between the colors displayed on the egg and what species it will hatch into. This is consistent between naturally occurring Digitama and ones that were created via a data composition machine, leading researchers to believe that the color of one's tama is analogous to finger prints in us humans!
"But Lady", I hear you asking, "That's all well and good but how do I care for a Digiegg if they just seem to hatch on their own?". Don't worry friend, there's actually a lot you can do for your partner to help them along in the hatching process! To keep things convenient for mobile readers, I'll be formatting this section into bullet points.
1. Prepare a nest or incubator for the tama: It is true that tamas don't need outside heat to incubate, but a safe environment for both the tama and the resulting newborn is always going to be ideal. Incubators are the high end solution to this, most models being the Digimon equivalent of those backpacks you can buy to carry your pets around in. They're temperature controlled and very easily portable, most actually do have straps to make them into backpacks, so it's hard to argue against getting one. That being said, if you can't afford the steep price tag, a nest will do just fine friend. Bunch up some old blankets and pile them onto a sturdy pillow and your new friend will hatch just as well as one kept in a fancy incubator.
2. Wait: The time it takes for tamas to hatch varies between individuals, and can even vary between an individual Digimon's growth cycles. Some artificial Digitama have been observed hatching in as little as ten minutes, while the longest recorded hatch time for a naturally occurring Digitama was a little under a month! Generally speaking though, most tamas take about three to five days to hatch regardless of their point of origin. Don't be stressed if your friend takes a little longer than usual, you can't rush growth.
3. Be prepared for change: While it is true that most Digimon's Stage I and II forms remain fairly consistent, it is still ultimately as random as digivolution. I've already done a resource post on what to do immediately after a tama hatches so I won't go too in depth here, but it is worth repeating that you should be ready to accept change as it comes and be prepared to help your partner with basic tasks for the few days to weeks it'll take them to reach Stage III again.
4. Last but not least, care for yourself: Even if we know our partners aren't gone forever, waiting for them to hatch can take its toll on us Tamers. It's important to keep yourself busy during this time and to use it to enrich your life away from your partner. I always take time between growth cycles to tidy up around the house and give myself a spa day. I think that having a clean home and a refreshed attitude helps both you and your partner come into this new experience with a better foot forward but you can do whatever will make you happiest! There's no right or wrong way to care for yourself, as long as you put in the effort it'll pay off.
That's all we have for now friends! As always, make sure to send us any questions y'all have on today's post and we'll try to answer them as they come. Good luck, and we hope that y'all's partners hatch soon!

in honor of a hoiiday where everyone eats a shitload of food
i've had a fantasy for a long time about like some kind of dragon feeding show. like a bunch of people come sit in an amphitheater to watch a dragon eat a lá what they do at zoos with dolphins n shit
there's just this massive fuckoff dragon sprawled out in the center of the stage, sleeping peacefully until it gets woken up at the beginning of the show by its handler, who proceeds to introduce it to the audience and talk about dragons and what they eat and stuff that happens at every show like this. everyone just wants to skip to the bit where it devours a goat or something.
so the handler gets everyone really pumped for this, and everyone's screaming and cheering bc spectacle and all that. and then she just leaves the stage. stage crew in heavy fireproof bite suits wheel out these weird tall objects covered in black cloth and get them set up, then whisk the covers off to reveal people.
they're long clear tubes, likely plexiglass, and metal frames. there are three or four, and each one contains a human wearing nothing except a cute little gag. between that and the plexiglass, the audience can see them writhing around in their containment, likely begging for help, but can't hear them, and oh that's why this show was 18+ we were wondering about that
the handler comes back and explains to the audience that because dragons are used to working for their prey, for demonstrations like this they have to eat from elaborate puzzle feeders, which is what the audience is looking at. each feeder has a slightly different solution to prevent boredom. and before you ask, they'll be fine. they signed extensive waivers. legally, we're not responsible for them not reading them. (they were wondering about the wording they got from the ushers about the "inside-the-scenes tour." by the time they figured it out, it was too late)
by this point, the dragon is well aware what's happening, and it's hungry. it's being offered three delicious courses, which it gets to eat in front of an audience that's incredibly eager to see this. the thick chains attaching it to the stage give it plenty of mobility, so it sidles up to the first feeder, lazily prodding its nose at it.
the feeder spins over, dumping the human out the open top and onto the stage. the meal tries to stand up and run, but the dragon's on him before he can get to his feet, jaws locked around his waist as he's swallowed whole, the audience wincing at it.
the second puzzle feeder doesn't spin in the middle, but it tilts at the bottom. the dragon takes the tube in its claws, leaning backward to tilt it back enough it can reach into the tube to get the treat inside. it gets a good angle, dipping its muzzle as far inside as it'll fit.
now that the top's open, the audience can hear the crying and begging for just a split second before the dragon's teeth close around her shoulders, lifting her bodily out and holding her up, head tilted back so the audience can see the way its throat ripples as it pulls her down as well.
all the while, of course, the handler is explaining what's going on in the dragon's head, how this benefits it, stuff like that. the audience is a curious mix of rapt and horrified. two people have been eaten alive and a third is about to be, and she just. doesn't care.
the third feeder doesn't rock or tilt, and it has a complicated lock that can only open from the inside. this one's the most fun to watch. the dragon rears onto its hind legs, spreading its wings and roaring, shooting a burst of flame into the air, to momentous applause. the handler has to stifle a smile. she knows how much it loves showing off for the audience.
grabbing at the top of the tube for stability, it looks down, carefully inspecting the feeder. it's smart enough to figure out this lock, and it has before, but the handler changes it just slightly every time. it snarls quietly, frustrated, and it's the loudest sound in the auditorium.
the human inside is terrified. she's just watched two other people go into the dragon, and she's about to be next. she can't run or scream for help, and no one who could hear her would help her anyway. when the dragon snarls, she starts openly sobbing.
opening its mouth, it dips its tongue into the slits at the top of the feeder, carefully moving around the metal bars and knobs that comprise the elaborate lock. each movement with its tongue drips more saliva onto her body as it plays with the mechanism right over her head, the bends in the tongue occasionally slapping across her face or curling over an ear. each time it touches her, she gets more scared, and the dragon relishes that.
the occasional brushes turn into curious licks, which become prodding kisses as the audience finds out what that metal ring in her mouth is for. they can see her throat bulging and turning through the glass, the dragon purring as it takes its time, putting on a show. as it kisses her, the body of its tongue keeps working on the lock while the tip ravages her throat.
when it releases her, she gasps for air as the tongue curls down her back and between her legs. it suddenly lifts up, carrying the unfortunate morsel into the dragon's jaws so suddenly she only has time for one last cheesy, bloodcurdling scream. its teeth close around her feet and it snaps her up quickly.
the handler asks if they want to see one more trick, and is met with thunderous cheering. she cues the dragon, and it spreads its wings, leaping into the air and holding itself there as it surveys the audience, chains rattling with each pulse of motion.
she tells it to come back down, and it doesn’t listen. it’s giving her a weird look. she tells it again and it doesn’t move, except to lick its chops and snarl. she tells it one more time, and this time it does.
this feeding’s not like the others. it swoops down at her, grabbing her in its teeth, and bites down hard. blood goes everywhere. people are screaming. this wasn’t supposed to happen. she said at the beginning there was a risk to working with these creatures. maybe she was right. they can hear her muffled screams from inside its mouth as it begins to chew ponderously, the panicked cries lasting an uncomfortable amount of time before going silent.
the dragon lays down, closing its eyes, almost appearing like it’s going back to sleep until its wings open vertically, blocking off a sizeable amount of the stage. there’s a pause, then they snap back, revealing the handler, alive and well, gesturing to the audience.
✨ta-da!✨

So, further to my last post, I do think a lot of people in the UK will be in the position of not being able to pay their bills this winter, maybe for the first time. It sucks and it's pretty scary.
So, here's a boring, practical, list of suggestions about what to do in these circumstances. Admittedly the last time I was in this situation was something like 7 or 8 years ago now but these are things I did or at least seriously considered as options last time I was truly skint. These are sort of short term solutions rather than long term really, the idea being eventually you get yourself out of the unaffordable situation or you get some financial help to bail you out somehow.
Okay, so first, if you can start prepping before things get really tough. If you can, try and save a bit of money. If you can access a credit card or overdraft on reasonable rates, take them out now - being able to dip £100 into an agreed overdraft or putting an unexpected bill on your credit card is much better than not being able to pay at all - at least short term.
Secondly, check you are claiming all benefits etc available to you as well as any discounts eg single person council tax you might be entitled to.
Thirdly, for this to work you generally have to keep at least a rough budget and know what bills will come up when. Cancel all direct debits that you can, you don't want them coming out unexpectedly.
Then, when you get to the point of not being able to pay everything, here's what you do.
1) work out how much you need for food, commutes and other essentials until you get paid again. That money doesn't go on bills.
2) take the money you have left and divide it between your bills eg rent, council tax, mobile, energy, water (that's order of priority btw - council tax is high priority because they are the only ones who can get baliffs to seize your stuff). The idea is not necessarily to pay all your bills in full but to offer everyone something. At this stage, you don't want to put anything on your credit card or go into your overdraft if you can help it.
3) Keep going with this until someone suggests some action. Depending on who it is depends on what you do. You do want to avoid eg ending up on a prepayment meter, so that might be the point to eg put your electricity bill on a credit card.
4) Do bear in mind that for a landlord to evict you over non payment of rent if you're paying something is quite an involved and expensive process. Unfortunately, they can just use a no fault eviction, and it may make it harder to find your next place if you're behind on your rent. So try to keep an open dialogue with your landlord or letting agent and explain the situation and your long term plans. However, if it gets to that point and you can't find somewhere to live, do seek the advice of someone like shelter. They can't forcibly evict you without a court process (which may give you a few months to sort out something else).
A lot of people reading this will probably say it's terrible advice, and it is - if you actually have the money to pay. But if you don't, these sorts of strategies can get you through at least short term difficult situations until you can (hopefully) find a better solution.

Shutters, in your opinion what are some of the best designed operators? (as in their kit and playstyle)
Gladiia - I've already said in another post that Gladiia is the perfect unit, and I stand by it. She's extremely effective with only minimal investment (E1L1 with skill level 7 will have her do most pulling jobs) but then somehow just gets stronger and stronger AND STRONGER the more you invest into her. Gladiia never learned what 'Diminishing Returns' meant, the economics student that tried to teach it to her got shoved into a locker when he tried. She's a viable M9 unit, wielding utility, damage, tank, and even heal support for some fucking reason. She even keeps getting stronger when you raise other units (Abyssal Hunters). She's fun, she's strong, all of her skills do something unique, she enables strategies absolutely no one else can do, and best of all: she's free.
Saria - Saria is the best case study of how to make a powerful—even overpowered—kit in a genre that mostly cares about DPS without any DPS. Like Gladiia, all of her skills are good and provide unique utility, but unlike Gladiia nothing about her module upgrades or talents or skill numbers is immediately going to tip you off that Saria's incredibly powerful; she just is. You just use her and you realize this is one of the best units in the game, hard carrying your lineups from her sheer versatility and healing power, with some SP utility or debuffs to boot.
Stainless - I would put him on this list for the sheer versatility, fun, strategic potential, and truly clever design his S3 has, but his S1 and S2 are also really fucking good too and stand on their own merits. Like Saria, Stainless is another operator who impresses me by standing out via sheer utility in a DPS-focused game, but unlike Saria, Stainless doesn't bring sustain or bulk, he simply has an array of gadgets that expand your possible map solutions AND operator picks to a wild degree. I finished most of Il Siracusano's EX stages by using Stainless clears—the way this guy enables bad operators with bad skills like Tachanka S1 cannot be matched by anyone. This is my single favorite operator gameplay wise to have come out in the last 2 years, insane how he and Dorothy are the least popular 6 stars when they're both so much more fun than their competition.
Gravel - You know what Gravel does. I think Gravel's kit was a marvel of its time, some truly inspired game design. You see, when Arknights first came out the primary faces of Tower Defense was Plants vs Zombies and Bloons. Gravel's low redeployment time and usage of throwing herself at the enemy team to constantly delay them simulated the feeling of having a mobile character in a genre about putting down towers that don't move, while Gravel also took advantage of enemy targeting priority being based on last deployed unit to act as bait for ranged enemies. She was the best unit to show off how Arknights differed from its competition, by taking advantage of all the design decisions that made Arknights a different beast of tower defense. Simple, effective, and unforgettable.
Hellagur - Hellagur's another example of an operator that does just one job just like Gravel, but approaches it in a way that emphasizes Arknights' unique approach to tower defense: Hellagur holds one spot, often right in front of the enemy gate and without support from his team. As the first Musha, he introduced a highly aggressive playstyle that was all about risk evaluation. You ask "Can Hellagur handle this?" and then see if he can. if he can't, you either buff him or try another approach. If he can, he often solves a big section of the map by himself by simply blocking a whole gate, freeing up the rest of your squad. High risk high reward is a common trope of game design because of how engaging that feeling of ramping tension can be; when Hellagur gets brought down to 1/3rd HP as he's dueling a particularly strong enemy, time slows down a little as you nervously watch him to see if he can handle it, and if he does and reaches back to full health before the next enemy comes, that release of tension and anticipation is its own special high.
I love this ask! Really fun question!
