Outsiders Week 2024

Hi all! This blog will be dedicated to Outsiders Week, which is taking place November 3-9, 2024!

What is Outsiders Week?

A week celebrating the creators and fans of the classic book, The Outsiders by SE Hinton! To participate, you create a new, never-before-seen fanwork and post it during the week of November 3rd-9th. You must tag this blog or tag the post "outsiders week 2024". The work must contain characters or locations from The Outsiders or any of S.E. Hinton's adjacent work, including the Outsiders movie and musical. Original characters are allowed, but ideally the focus would be on existing characters.

What types of fanworks will be allowed?

Any! Fic, art, moodboards, playlists, meta, anything you can think of! I just ask that it is new or at least has not been shared publically before.

I don't have any ideas, help!

Don't worry, there's a prompt for that! Each day of the week will have a general prompt and a character assigned to it. You do not have to follow the prompts if you don't want to, they're just to get your creativity going!

Is shipping allowed?

Yes! Both shipping (romantic) works and gen (platonic) works are allowed! However, we will not be posting work containing incest ships or adult/minor ships (unless it's a canon pairing or within 1-2 years of each other. Ex: Randy/Bob where Randy is 17 and Bob is 18.). Aged-up ships is fine.

Is NSFW or mature work allowed?

No. Well, sort of. Since The Outsiders deals with "mature" topics already, the type of content found in the book is allowed, (eg, rumbles, drug use, implied sex) but not more explicit than that. The work shared for Outsiders Week should have a "PG-13" rating, so no explicit smut or graphic violence. Use the book as reference. If you have any questions about if your work will be allowed, please ask!

tid bit Tuesday brought to u by a scene that came to me in a prophetic vision (stuck in traffic with nothin' else to think about)

"Soda are you gonna wear that?" Darry sounds exasperated, which is to say he doesn't sound much different then he usually does.

Steve turns half around to get a look at Soda's outfit 'n gets distracted by Pony as he pops the oven open 'n breaks off a corner of the cake still bakin' with his bare hands.

Pony glances up 'n catches Steve raisin' an eyebrow. He opens his mouth to rat him out 'n Pony frantically waves a hand at him, silently offerin' his bite. Steve smirks 'n takes it, tossin' it into his mouth still pipin' hot. Pony glares at him.

"Aw, c'mon Dar. I thought you were supportive." Steve can hear the grin in Soda's words 'n Steve drifts out into the living room to see what the fuss is, figurin' Soda's managed to forget its the middle of winter 'n Tusla won't forgive a T-shirt.

He's half right.

Soda's got on a mod skirt, the kind that stop tastefully way up near mid thigh. Steve’s jaw falls open. Cartoonishly.

"Soda it's way too cold for that. You can't wear that when it's not even forty degrees out." Darry rolls his eyes 'n Soda pouts.

"Oh, I think you'll find he can." Soda tosses his hair back from his eyes 'n shoots Steve a wink 'n a grin. Steve puts both hands over his heart 'n swoons against the door frame. He's only half kiddin'.

"You're gonna freeze to death, lil buddy. C'mon, save the Steve killers for summer."

"He can wear my jacket!" Steve nearly trips over himself 'n Pony snickers from the kitchen. Steve flips him off, automatically. "Darry, Pony was sneakin' pieces of the cake."

"Fuckin' traitor!"

"Ponyboy Michael did I not tell you to leave that alone." Darry half turns into the kitchen to glare at his brother 'n Steve jumps on his opportunity.

"C'mon, Soda quick!" Steve grabs Soda by his shoulders 'n half manhandles, half-pulls him out the front door. "Bye Dar!"

"Glory Jesus at least take a jacket!" Steve wraps his coat firmly around Soda's shoulders 'n grabs a hoodie that may have been Darry's, may have been Two-Bit's from beside the door.

Soda's waitin' for him at the bottom of the stairs as Steve let's the screen slam closed. He giggles 'n Steve thinks he would do just about anythin' to hear that again. "My hero." He drops a kiss to Steve’s cheek 'n turns to clamber in the car.

Oh he'd do anythin'. No question.

Had this drawing of her that I haven’t posted (I think) and I like it so here we are (the background is a stock image fyi I just edited it some- coulda easily done my own but man I just don’t feel like it)

Anyhow I have a few headcannons about her that’re partially for the Steviepop-Tex AU, and here feels like a good place to put ‘em- so they’re under the cut

-She used to smoke, but medical school turned her off of cigarettes.

-She never seems to remember to pick up after herself. She’s very clean- can’t stand dirt or dust- but very messy. 

-She wanted to be a model or a cowgirl back when she was a kid. She’s older now, and she’s a part-time nurse, part-time hairdresser. Deep down she still wants to be a cowgirl.

-She’s a good mechanic, but she hates the feeling of motor oil and the smell of gasoline. Not enough so to keep her from working at the DX gas station for three years, or to dislike the way grease and gasoline cling to her boyfriend, but enough to turn her off of wanting to be a mechanic as a career. Besides, she’s a girl. She doesn’t wanna work such a masculine job. She feels masculine enough as is. (it’s the 60s-70s I’m sorry lol)

-She had a crush on Soda before she met Steve. And then when she first dated Steve she thought Soda was kinda annoying and airheaded. But when she got to know him the crush came right back.

-Evie lets Ponyboy get away with everything- she’s an only child and she kinda immediately latches onto him in a sisterly sorta way. Steve hates this. So much. God he hates it.

-Her and Soda have come to the agreement that if steviepop has kids Steve’s carrying them (Steve is unaware of this conversation) (this makes no sense but they also agree that they can figure it out w/ “modern science”)

-Her mom doesn’t like Steve but does like Soda. …However, she likes how Steve has more money than Soda does.

-Her and Soda are both into horses- she learned to ride illegally in Buck Merril’s stable (Sylvia convinced her sneaking in at night was a good idea) (She’s still shocked they never got caught) (They actually did get caught- Buck just never mentioned it or stopped them)

-Sylvia was her best friend for years (sorta the Dally to her Johnny). They met at age 12, and stuck together until Evie went off to college.

-After that though, Sylvia stopped returning Evie’s calls and letters. Scared of being forgotten, Sylvia sort of self sabotaged herself. Evie still wonders what happened years later but has too much pride to reach out and ask (she cried about it to Steve for months though. Took it more seriously than a breakup.)

-Part of why she’s always been chill with the idea of Steve being bi and into Soda, even tho it’s the 60s, is that she was the only one who knew Sylvia was a lesbian.

-Really wanted to be a mod girl in high school but couldn’t really afford it. (That yellow dress I draw her in is homemade w/ Sylvia’s help)

This is the confession blog made for the discussion of any media related to The Outsiders, originally a novel written by S.E. Hinton in 1967. Decided to make one since all of the existing were inactive for at least 3 years or so.

Rules:

1. No name-dropping in negative context. We don't want any people to be targeted, bullied, or doxxed. Mentioning people is allowed, just don't describe it too obviously. This includes reblogs and comments too.

2. No overly explicit topics. Vague mentions of violence/NSFW is fine, not with underage characters though (includes Ponyboy, Johnny, Dallas, Steve, Sodapop, Steve, Cherry, Curly, etc.)

3. Confessions should be somehow related to The Outsiders of any media or the fandom, whether it's about this blog or just general fandom.

This is by no means is in particular order, it's just fun things I've noticed.

Most people following have a Dallas profile picture

The most popular people to confess about are Ponyboy, Dally, or Johnny, then a toss up between Darry or Sodapop

Speaking of which Tumblr HATES tagging Sodapop or steve

Had an issue for a while that tagging Darry would give me the Darry x Paul tag

Tumblr also insists I've never tagged Steve before and im doing the guy from stranger things

If there's talk about a ship I will get quite a few all at once

Many people confess during the night

I genuinely thought about not posting the mpreg ones, and I wonder who posted them

There are three asks that I haven't posted

1. A discord link for a outsiders themed hangout/roleplay. I didn't post it due to younger folks being on here and discord can be a scary, nasty place

2. One saying I should stop posting about a certain ship because last time people questioned the morality of the ship, the shippers got harassed. They requested not to be posted

3. Someone saying that there's someone who i presume is in the fandom that they don't like and should get a job. Obvious reasons why that didn't get a post

I try to be as neutral as possible when I post, so many times I do have thoughts on confessions but decide not the comment.

I'm also the only mod on said account!
