How the Soul Speaks to God
Lord you are my lover,
My longing,
My flowing stream,
My sun,
And I am your reflection.

The Schlocktoberfest - Day 26: Night of the Demons
The Schlocktoberfest – Day 26: Night of the Demons
Night of the Demons (2010) Read my review of the original here. Trailer:  *Spoilers Throughout* What’s This About: Partygoers of wildly varying ages awaken an ancient evil: Edward Furlong. Here are some of my observations as I watched the film: Wow this movie has the precise exact same opening New Orleans party scene as the New Orleans party scene in Hatchet, complete with shots that come…

Night of the Demons Remake
I always feel the need to preface one of these articles with a disclaimer; I am not reflexively negative towards remakes. For a lot of people, the knee-jerk response to any remake is to trash it and complain. The thing is, I’ve seen a lot of good remakes. I seen a lot of bad ones too, that’s neither here nor there. But especially remakes of films like Halloween or Texas Chainsaw Massacre, films…

After Beltane I was full of questions. "When the man in the gold cloak summoned me to the stone and I spoke the words..." I began, "I wondered...does it mean that I am special?" "How do you mean?" asked Juniper. "There were lots of other children there, but he didn't summon them. Why did he summon me?" "Somebody had to do it. Why not you?" She was being very dense. "But I felt as if I was the right person." "Yes, you were the right person. Then. At other times other people are the right person for something." "So it doesn't mean I'm special?" "Everyone is special." "It doesn't mean that I'm bound to become a doran or anything?" Juniper didn't answer this time, but went on stirring the soup as if I hadn't spoken. "I want to be special," I said obstinately at last. "So does everyone else. So we have to take turns." "But some people are more special than others, aren't they?" Juniper suddenly got extremely irritated. "The really special ones are the ones who don't ever think about it," she said.

9 Fandom Peeps to Get to Know Better
Thank you for tagging me @yletylyf!
3 ships you like: I'm going to go general rather than specific here - competent by nature, codependent by choice x (n>=2) - obviously we're not in love this is just an arranged marriage I just happen to refuse to abandon no matter what - a: oh no, b is hot. i must keep this realisation a secret and take it to my grave
First ship ever: Eowyn/Faramir (from the books! I still haven't seen the movies! Miranda Otto and David Wenham are unbearably hot and I love them but I am very committed to the balcony scene I reenacted in my head hundreds of times as a young teen)
Last song you heard: Scenes from a Separation, Darren Hanlon, because it was an earworm and then because I found it on YT for you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY3M9fetmao
Favourite childhood book: (only one? no no no. books plural, a curated selection, in roughly chronological order) The Hobbit A Year and a Day by Monica Furlong The Magician's Nephew by CS Lewis The Emperor Mage by Tamora Pierce The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (a trilogy in five parts) Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins
Currently reading: Just finished Still Life With Woodpecker, and before that Faro's Daughter. Haven't picked up another book yet (currently studying: the HSK1 word list)
Currently watching: Rising Feather (dubcon! abs! revenge!) The Romance of Tiger and Rose (the plot workshopping is coming from inside the narrative!)
Currently consuming: Decaf instant coffee, fruit bread and butter with cherry jam

The Power of Love
Sometimes it happens that love is sweetly awoken the soul and joyfully arises and moves in the heart of itself without doing anything at all. And then the heart is so powerfully touched by love, so keenly drawn into love and so strongly seized by love, and so utterly mastered by love and so tenderly embraced by love, that it entirely yields itself to love. And in this it experiences a great proximity to God, a spiritual radiance, a marvelous bliss, a noble freedom, an ecstatic sweetness, a great overpowering by the strength of love, and an overwhelming abundance of immense delight. And then she [the soul] feels that all her senses are sanctified by love and her will has become love, and that she is so deeply immersed and so engulfed in the abyss of love that she herself has turned entirely into love. Then the beauty of love has bedecked her, the power of love has devoured her, the sweetness of love has submerged her, the grandeur of love has consumed her, the nobility of love has enveloped her, the purity of love has adorned her, and the sublimity of love has drawn her upward and so united herself [love] with her [the soul] that she must always be love and do nothing but the deeds of love.
— Beatrijs of Nazareth, as quoted in Visions and Longings: Medieval Women Mystics by Monica Furlong
