Worldwide Insurance Companies along with detailed information
Gathering a complete list of all insurance companies worldwide, along with detailed information about each, is a vast and complex task. The number of insurance companies globally is in the thousands, varying across regions and industries (life, health, property, casualty, etc.). Additionally, companies frequently merge, change names, or cease operations, which makes maintaining an up-to-date list…

tell me about your favourite pair of socks
Well, this one is hard, because I have four favorite pairs, but the issue is I've never worn them because they're too precious to me 🥲. One of them my eldest sister bought me while on a trip for work I think, as are the second and third pairs bought by my second oldest sister on a work trip to Germany (both Borussia Dortmund themed!! They're my favorite football team 🥲) and the third is a pair bought to me by my aunt, they're home socks things, very fluffy and soft, I don't want to have to put them in the laundry and lose all the softness!😔
#anonymous#asks#thank youuuu#the favorite pair i do use is probably black heel height socks or ankle height socks#or the “skin” colored ones for when i wear my beige flats#fun fact re Borussia Dortmund. my dad visited munich and almost bough me a bayern shirt 💀

Womens history just got richer.

When the deeply patriarchal Romans first encountered Celtic tribes living in modern-day France and Great Britain in the first century B.C.E., their reaction to the roles of the sexes was one of surprise and dismay. The tasks of men and women “have been exchanged, in a manner opposite to what obtains among us,” wrote one Roman historian.
New evidence from Celtic graves now confirms that at least one part of Britain was a woman’s world long before the Romans arrived—and for centuries afterward. One ancient British tribe known as the Durotriges based its family structure—and perhaps property inheritance—on kinship between mothers and daughters. Men, meanwhile, left home to live with their wives’ families, a practice known as matrilocality that has never been seen before in European prehistory.
The work, published today in Nature, helps explain why women in Iron Age Britain are often buried with high-status grave goods such as mirrors and even chariots, says Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich archaeologist Carola Metzner-Nebelsick, who was not involved with the research. “It’s a fantastic result,” she says. “It really helps explain the archaeological record.”
Ancient histories—not least Julius Caesar’s 50 B.C.E. account of invading Gaul—hinted at female empowerment among the Celts. “They wrote about it because they found it so weird,” says Trinity College Dublin geneticist Lara Cassidy.
Many modern historians assumed the accounts were exaggerated; they dismissed rich female graves from the time as outliers. But over the past few decades, archaeologists comparing burial practices at hundreds of Iron Age sites from Britain to Germany began to think there was a kernel of truth to the Roman reports.
The Durotriges cemeteries, located in the far south of England near the city of Bournemouth, offered a way for Cassidy and her team to investigate. Burials there began around 100 B.C.E., roughly 150 years before Roman forces invaded the island. Unusually for Iron Age Britain, the tribe didn’t cremate their dead. Instead they buried them close to home, in the hills surrounding their farmsteads.
Whereas men were laid to rest with a joint of meat and perhaps a pot containing a beverage to sustain them on their journey into the afterlife, Durotriges women are often found with elaborate offerings including mirrors, combs, jewelry, and even swords. “If you judge social status by burial goods, then female burials have vastly more than male,” says Bournemouth University archaeologist Miles Russell, a co-author of the new paper.
Over the past 4 years, researchers sequenced DNA from dozens of Durotriges skeletons in a set of cemeteries in Dorset, England. By matching identical fragments of genetic material from different individuals, they reconstructed a family tree that spanned six generations—many of whom were female descendants of a single female founder. Two-thirds of the people in the kin group buried in the cemetery shared a rare type of mitochondrial gene, a form of DNA inherited only from the mother, including some of the men who shared the same female ancestor.
Other genetic evidence from the Durotriges cemeteries pointed to matrilocality, showing that men joined the clan from other families. “Women are staying close to family and are embedded in the support network they’ve known since childhood,” Cassidy notes. “It’s the husband who’s coming in as a stranger and is dependent on the wife’s family.” Women were evidently a force to be reckoned with in this part of Iron Age Britain.

Archaeologists have found that members of Great Britain’s Durotriges tribe often buried women with more grave goods than men.Miles Russell/Bournemouth University
Such patterns could help explain finds elsewhere in the Celtic world, where women were sometimes buried with rich grave goods or even chariots. “We’re thinking this could have been quite widespread,” Cassidy says.
To gather further evidence, she and her colleagues re-examined previously published genomes from more than 150 sites in Britain and Europe stretching back to the Stone Age. Starting around 500 B.C.E., the diversity in people’s mitochondrial DNA declined, the team found, suggesting more of them shared the same female ancestors. There was no matching decline in the diversity of Y chromosomes, which are passed from fathers to sons.
That suggests communities across Britain were anchored by specific female lines, with men marrying in from outside. “The signal they see in [the Durotriges] case study can be reproduced in other British sites,” says Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology archaeogeneticist Joscha Gretzinger, who was not involved with the work. “That’s quite a smoking gun.”
The study is part of a growing use of DNA to reconstruct genetic kinship in the deep past—and use it to shed light on the structure of past societies. University of Liverpool archaeologist Rachel Pope says the research is starting to highlight the wide variety of social organization people practiced in the past, something archaeology has hinted at over the past 2 decades.
Some of the earliest kinship studies using ancient DNA, for example, showed that Stone Age farmers in Britain and France living in the fifth millennium B.C.E. were organized patrilocally, with women leaving their homes to marry while men stayed put. The new data from Durotriges suggest that by the Iron Age, 4000 years later, something had shifted. “This is quite exciting,” Pope says. “There are moments in time in which societies seem to have a lot of high female status.”

Hardersson x Teen!Reader
Georgia Stanway x Teen!Reader
Summary: You join Bayern Munich
The transfer was a long time coming.
You love North London. You love Arsenal - a bit too much according to Magda - but this transfer was something that you didn't need to think about.
You loved your mothers more than Arsenal and you wanted to be with them again.
You'd gotten a taste of it during your last year in London, living with them both and then they'd gone to Germany without you, stuck in your two year contract with your club.
Arsenal had tried to re-sign you but Bayern Munich had come knocking and Bayern Munich was where your mothers were.
You wanted to be where your mothers were too.
Contract negotiations were easy. They moved quickly and without much fuss until finally your name was on the dotted line and there were two Harders on the team.
It's the first time you'll be playing your club football with Magda, the first time you'll ever be playing football with Pernille.
It's not that you're nervous but you want to do well.
You want to prove to them that they've made the right choice in letting you come with them again.
Oberdorf has also joined from Wolfsburg and you think her signing is a lot more ground breaking than yours so you slip under the radar a little bit as the media and fans clamour over Oberdorf's switch from one German giant to another.
"Different kind of red than you're used to, little Eriksson?" Georgia Stanway teases as you step out onto the training pitch for preseason.
"Red is red," You say," And it's Harder, not Eriksson."
Georgia frowns. "But I thought you were Swedish."
"I am Swedish," You reply," And I'm still a Harder. Two things can be right at the same time."
Goergia laughs at your affronted look, reaching out to ruffle your hair. "I was just playing around with you. No harm, no foul."
You still purse your lips though, unsure how to take this teasing.
Everyone at Arsenal already knew you. They knew how you were. They knew how you acted. They knew that either one of your mothers would pick you up when practice ended so their teasing couldn't go too far.
"Leah's talked about you," Georgia continues," Said you usually had a sense of humour."
"I do have a sense of humour! I just..."
Magda's hand falls onto your shoulder. "She's just nervous. This is her first time in Germany, you know. She's left all her friends behind in London."
Your cheeks go red. "Morsa," You say," You're embarrassing me."
Magda pinches your cheek. "Good. That's what I'm here for."
Georgia watches as you try to squirm away, but Magda's got you in a headlock and is rubbing her knuckles in your hair.
"Come on! Come on! Get off!"
"Are they always like this?"
"You should have seen what they were like after a London Derby," Pernille says, fondly watching the two of you as you manage to tackle Magda into the ground, wrestling with her in the dirt.
"Magda said she left her friends behind?"
"Magda exaggerates. I'm afraid y/n has never really had time for friends outside of football."
Georgia frowns. "No friends outside of football? None at all?"
"She's lonely," Pernille says," Not that she would admit it but I know she is."
"She seems pretty cool. She scored that worldie on her last game for Arsenal. I was impressed."
Pernille laughs. "Don't tell her that. She hates the compliments."
"Alright, I'll keep my awe to a minimum but the goal she scored against us in the Euro Qualifiers was equally as impressive. She's good off the ball as well."
Pernille grins, puffing out her chest as pride runs through her system. "She's the best. Magda and I are so lucky to have her as ours."
"You don't mind if I steal her for a bit though? I reckon I can get her more settled."
"If you think so." Pernille moves to loom over you and Magda, getting a foot between your two rolling bodies. "Magda, leave her alone. Y/n, Georgia wants to show your something."
You shove Magda off you, hurrying to your feet before she can grab you again.
Georgia grins, arm being thrown over your shoulder as she leads you to another group of girls.
"Sydney! Have you met Magda and Pernille's kid?"
"No. I haven't."
"Well this is y/n. y/n this is Syd. She seems like your speed."
"She does?"
"I do?"
"Well...no not really but you look like you need someone to help you out of your shell. Syd did that with Sam. She can do it with you."
Sydney grins at you and you find yourself grinning back. Her smile is kind of infectious.
"So what do you do outside of football?"
"Nothing really."
Sydney's grin widens. "Don't worry. We'll find something."

it's better to burn than to be replaced (pt. 1/2)

synopsis: yandere! alexis ness x reader who is kinda into it (just him… for now) words: 930 cw: general yandere themes - stalking, obsessive behavior. implied nsfw, but no smut. MDNI. notes: implied one-sided kainess. a/n: happy birthday to my babygirl
alexis ness, who finds you after kaiser transfers to re al.
at the time, you’d both told yourselves it would be a one-time fling; just a way for you to destress after exams or work or whatever is plaguing you lately, and just something to distract him from the hollowness in his chest, the aching pain from losing the person he’d held at the center of his universe for countless years. all things considered, it’s a good deal for both of you— he’s always eager to please, and you have a tendency to be more than just a bit affectionate during sex (even if it is only supposed to be just one night), and so you both leave that hotel room the next morning feeling satisfied.
it’s… nice, he thinks, to have been able to fall asleep and cuddle with someone after being intimate with them. to wake up and feel someone holding him back, to be met with a smiling face (even if you are just being polite and trying not to make things awkward). it’s nice to share a meal with someone, to have someone compliment him on his feats in his career, and even go as far as to ask about his life outside of football. (even if it's all just in the name of small talk— you’re not actually into him, it’s just a one-time thing, he knows. he knows.)
it’s so nice that, against your previously agreed upon terms and his better judgment, he asks to see you again. and again. and one more time after that— this is the last time, he swears. he always swears it is— but every time you hold him tenderly, kiss him gently, make sure he’s also being satisfied and not just using him for your own pleasure, he feels his resolve rapidly unravel between your fingertips, burning hot where they trail along his skin.
and yet, you agree. time and again, you agree to meet up with alexis, until it becomes part of your weekly routine to spend friday nights in bed with him and saturday mornings working through the long list of breakfast spots around munich you’ve been meaning to try for months now. at some point, he stops asking if he can see you again, and instead moves on to asking if it’s going to be at your place or his.
at some point, when he wasn’t paying attention, that feverish feeling settled beneath his skin again. it’s something he hasn’t felt in months— something kaiser had taken with him when he left. gone is the dull ache within his chest, now replaced by the desperate need to know where you are, what you’re up to, who you’re thinking about. (him, right? are you thinking about him at least half as much as he’s thinking about you?)
it’s decidedly worse this time, worse than whatever infatuation he had with kaiser that said man was exploiting every step of the way. it’s worse because you actually accept his admiration and affection— and what’s more, you return it tenfold, reciprocate his love and make him feel lighter than he’s ever felt in his life. you’re finally giving it to him, this thing that he’s craved for so long, and that’s probably why he clings to you so tightly, his embrace always a little too tight, somewhere near suffocating.
but you’re not stupid. no, you noticed early on in your arrangement that personal belongings of yours started to vanish soon after the first few times you allowed alexis to spend the night at your place. you know the weight of his gaze on your shoulders all too well, for it’s there any time he’s not maintaining the rigorous routine of a professional football player, at times you know he shouldn’t be anywhere near you. you’ve poked at his phone while he was in the bathroom, and you’ve seen the thousands of photos of you stored in a locked folder on his phone, with your birthday as the passcode.
but you can’t help the flattery you feel from it, the thrill you get from knowing his obsession with you knows no bounds. you’re definitely messed up in your own right for being so into it, for not minding the twisted attention he gives you, but you think it’s fine. it’ll be alright, because you genuinely do love and care for him, and you’re not planning on getting rid of him anytime soon.
it’s bliss, and after five months, as you lay in his arms on yet another saturday morning, you sleepily ask him if he wants to make this thing between you two official. five months soon turn into nine, then into a year, and before he knows it, your three year anniversary is on the horizon. thankfully, it’s about two weeks after the season ends, so he’s guaranteed the time off. he’s planned a nice trip to italy for the two of you, and he thinks the ring box tucked away in his desk drawer will make a nice end to it.
he’s been on cloud nine with you the past few years, experiencing life in a way he never has before. if it wasn’t normal for him now, he would think it all too good to be true— sometimes, he still worries it is, but then he returns to your shared apartment and gets to melt in your waiting arms after practice, and he knows he’s being anxious over nothing. this perfect, precious thing he’s found is real and it’s his, and nothing could possibly ruin it.
…right?

The Seasons with You- Summer

Michael Kaiser x fem! reader
Genre: fluff
Warning: ooc Kaiser, grammar mistakes
Keywords: reader protects Kaiser, lovesick Kaiser, third date, blooming romance, pre-relationship
A short description: Dear reader, take my hand as we take a look at how the untamable German prodigy, who has never received love in his life, gives a chance to Cupid. There are 4 seasons in a year, and Kaiser falls in love with Y/n in each one.
A quote from the fanfiction:
"Never ever in his life has he been protected: as a child he was abused both physically and verbally, making him believe that he was all alone, and no one could save him. Even after being scouted to Bastard Munchen, even after finding friends, Kaiser still felt like he was far too gone, and no one would fight for him. However, on that rainy summer day –after just three dates- Y/n, who has almost zero knowledge of soccer, went into a heated debate, using all her knowledge of the sport, and has proved that he was worthy. Worthy of...love.
He slowly opened the door and was greeted by fiery eyes and flushed cheeks. His lips pulled into a genuine smile as his hands reached Y/n’s waist."
Next up: The Seasons with you- Autumn in which our favourite couple is becoming official
The sky above Munich was covered with nimbostratus, implying the incoming rain that would bring release from the unholy heat that’s been making the German people’s lives miserable. Despite the clear warning about the change of the weather, life went on, gathering all the Bastard Munchen fans to the stadium of the infamous soccer team.
Michael Kaiser- God’s chosen emperor- has never felt particularly nervous before games; they were just matches he had to win. However this time the blonde definitely felt giddier than usually, but tried not to show his emotions. The reason for this unusual excitement was of course Y/n, whose presence would be greatly appreciated.
Since the exhibition Kaiser and Y/n have been on 3 dates so far -each was more enjoyable than the last- and the woman has promised that she would make time for her date’s future matches: now the time has come and Y/n was seated in one of the VIP seats. She felt a little awkward, since soccer was an unknown field in her life-the young woman had almost no knowledge of soccer before having met the German soccer player. Nonetheless, her eyes have been scanning the field intensely, searching for the good looking man, who stole her heart.
And there he was, in all his glory with the unwipeable cocky smirk plastered on his face. Though, upon looking up at Y/n, a slight blush coloured his pale cheeks, but no one seemed to notice.
The match was nervewracking, but Bastard Munchen managed to win with a last minute goal shot by Isagi- that infuriated Kaiser, but they’ve won the game at least. He stepped out from the changing room in a sour mood, which he tried not to display. Kaiser was far from the once rebellious punk that would taunt or manipulate people, though he still had his ways to call his teammates out, and was not afraid to make them face with their mistakes. “I’ve become soft” he thought as his steps lead him to the VIP section. Maybe Y/n can cheer him up?
Meanwhile Y/n has been waiting for her Kaiser, while listening to the debates from a few seats over. Some fans were arguing over who was the best player of the match. The woman was not someone who would barge in others’s conversations, but this time she couldn’t help but throw a few words to the one who said Kaiser was not on his best game today.
-...Michael Kaiser scored two goals out of the three and you say that he was not on his best game? That’s two third of the whole goals Bastard Munchen has managed to score. Oh and let’s not forget about the fact that he was facing the infamous prodigy Itoshi Sae from Re Al, and still won. So your illogical discussion means nothing, because you can not prove anything with facts. Yes, the last goal was shot by Yoichi Isagi, but the best goal was definitely Michael’s. His shots were powerful, his tactical mind was alert and scored two goals in 90 minutes against such strong opponents.
The air around Y/n has become frozen, the men didn’t dare to talk shit about Kaiser anymore- who was listening eagerly behind the door.
Never ever in his life has he been protected: as a child he was abused both physically and verbally, making him believe that he was all alone, and no one could save him. Even after being scouted to Bastard Munchen, even after finding friends, Kaiser still felt like he was far too gone, and no one would fight for him. However, on that rainy summer day –after three dates- Y/n, who has almost zero knowledge of soccer, went into a heated debate, using all her knowledge of the sport, and has proved that he was worthy. Worthy of...love.
He slowly opened the door and was greeted by fiery eyes and flushed cheeks. His lips pulled into a genuine smile as his hands reached Y/n’s waist.
-Let’s go. –Said Kaiser as he lead the woman. From that moment the soccer player was certain, that Y/n was the one. The question was: how could he impress the most amazing woman?
The sky above Munich was dark as the raindrops watered the thirsty ground, as two people ran towards a black luxury car- Kaiser liked to show off, and Y/n didn’t mind.
-Thank you. –It was the blonde who finally broke the comfortable silence, earning a questioning look from his date. –For standing up for me.
Kaiser’s voice was barely a whisper, but Y/n could hear it loud and clear.
-I meant it. You were amazing out there. –She responded with a proud smile, because the woman truly believed in her Mihnya.
The man just shook his head with a small chuckle as his hand found Y/n’s, and gently planted a kiss on her delicate skin.

Mary with child and Sts Dominic, Michael, John the Baptist and Thomas (ca. 1490~94)
Oil on poplar panel, 223.9 x 201.4 cm
Alte Pinakothek, Munich, Germany
— Domenico Ghirlandaio and workshop (Italian; 1449 ~ 1494)
Domenico Ghirlandaio maintained one of the largest painting workshops in Florence in the second half of the 15th century. In the last years of his life he created his most extensive and important work: he was commissioned to re-equip the main choir chapel of Santa Maria Novella in Florence. Ghirlandaio created the high altar for this, among other things - a highlight of the monumental narrative art of that time.
The subject of the depiction is the appearance of Mary in the form of the Apocalyptic Woman. Dominic and Michael appear on the left, John the Baptist and the Apostle Thomas on the right.

Onstage in Munich, June 1966. Photos by Frank Fischbeck.
Remembering John.
“During Goldmine’s first National Record Show, in September 2000 at The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, dealers and the Goldmine staff were given a behind-the-scenes look at some recently acquired items that had not yet been shown publicly. Among the items was the jean jacket Lennon wore during the ‘70s. There were few embellishments on the jacket, but he had sewn a Dark Horse Records patch on it.” - “Letter from the editor” by Greg Loescher, Goldmine, January 25, 2002 “The idea of John not being here doesn’t bother me so much because — he is here, to me. That’s what the whole life of Christ was, to show people, ‘You dug him then — re-dig him now.’ To realize that it’s the spirit, not the body. And I’ve learned whatever the years. In a way, you don’t need a living guru in front of you, because he’s in front of your spiritual eye, every time you close your eyes and go inside. They’re all there, all our friends and loved ones, all our relatives. Everybody is there. So the way he died was tragic. But: ‘If your memory serves you well, we’re gonna meet again…’ [...] They can kill the man, but they can’t kill the spirit. They can’t kill what he meant to you.” - George Harrison, Musician, March 1990 (x)

@themagnificentmags—Queen of the game plus fic, your take on the game's events with Eltura is a stroke of genius. I can't wait to catch up once I'm out of the MAATLC trenches.
@captastra, thank you for the fic you gifted me! I often re-read it, and it always puts a smile on my lips. Thank you <3
@literary-potato, your take on Heinrix and your Rogue Trader are fascinating, and they are the only fic I allow myself to follow apart from my own writing. Please continue publishing and sharing your talent with us.
@vossprime, thank you for the slightly more unhinged fic you gifted me. ;) For the day we spent in Munich shopping, for your takes on Heinrix, and for your great RT, Zlatko. You belong in at least two categories—a double threat and insanely talented in writing and drawing. I hope you continue sharing your works with us.
@vitanithepure is another massive talent. I hope you continue updating your post-game fic. I massively enjoyed reading about your RT.
@theevilscribbler unhinged in the best way about Marazhai, your live reading talent is one for the ages. Thank you for our many exchanges in the writers' chat and the ideas you have seeded in my brain. <3
@jaal-ama-daravv—You, my dear friend, would need a whole category unto yourself, and we still wouldn't cover all your many talents. Organiser and heart of the Rogue Trader gift exchange, a great writer and artist, you gifted me the idea of a young Isha with short hair, and I will immortalise her in my fic. Thank you for your passion, video edits, and going insane over Emmrich with me and playing Veilguard.
@cawyden-gaming - not only do you write, but your deep dive into the game files provides us with all the little details we might have missed in our own playthrough. Your screenshots have been, at times, an invaluable help in my own writing. So thank you for that. <3
Then, shout out to the artists who gift us so many great pieces of Heinrix art:
@annahenriart—wow, just wow. Your interpretation of Heinrix is stunning, and your style is sensual and soft. I'dlike to climb inside my monitor and devour your paintings.
@sotc - thank you for both paintings you drew of Heinrix and Isha. I love your style; your artwork crossing my dash always makes me smile.
@raeb33s—You, my dear, have a unique way of painting Heinrix, one that always makes my heart melt. Please continue sharing your drawings of him with Jae and your RT. Each one of your drawings is a gift to the community.
@cadencespark - you are a ray of sunshine, and you spread so much positivity in the fan space. Thank you for painting Heinrix and Isha and offering the same to so many other Heinrix fans. <3
@archtech-fox - your comic reinterpretation of many RTs with Heinrix was a genius stroke. Thank you for gifting me my own special Heinrix x Isha comic strip! <3 Thank you, too, for being a darling in Heinclub and a proud star board member. Your unique humour and deadpan delivery are one for the ages. Keep on being you! <3
Special shout out to:
@unsupervised-threat Ark, your one-time live reading reaction game to one of my chapters lives as screenshots on my PC. Whenever I feel down, I browse through it, and it never fails to make me smile. Thank you for that and for being a positive force on Heinclub!
I'm sorry, I will have missed a lot of talented people, but this post is getting too long already. Thank you all for keeping the Heinrix fandom such a positive and tight-knit experience. <333

1940 05 Westland Lysander MkIII - box art Italeri
The Westland Lysander was a short take off and landing (STOL) aircraft that was initially employed in the forward observer/artillery spotter/army cooperation role. It would later provide air support for what would subsequently be called covert operations in Occupied Europe. It first flew on June 15, 1936 and was a factor in the post-war development of a STOL requirement by the world’s major air forces. Entering service with the Royal Air Force in June 1938, its design was significantly influenced by the German Henschel Hs 126, a similar aircraft in the Luftwaffe inventory. The Lysander was fully operational with No. 16 (Army Co-operation) Squadron at the time of the Munich Crisis in September 1938, and began the R.A.F’s process of phasing out its then designated artillery spotter aircraft, the Hawker Hector bi-plane.By the time war broke out a year later, it was in service with seven squadrons, six of which deployed to France in the first months of the war (Nos. 2, 4, 13, 26, 613 and 614). When hostilities in the West began in earnest in May 1940 with Germany’s invasion of France and the Low Countries, Lysanders began reconnaisance and artillery spotting operations, with Nos. 2 and 4 Squadrons re-deploying to Belgium. On occasion, Lysanders gave a surprisingly good account of themselves when pitted against state-of-the-art German fighters. In one action, a group of Lysanders was attacked by six Messerschmitt Bf 110s over Belgium, and the rear gunner of one of them, L.A.C. Gillham, shot down one of the 110’s, before his pilot could escape at low level. In the coming weeks, Lysanders were frequently set upon by Bf 109’s, particularly when unescorted by their own fighters. While not fast, they were highly manueverable; if they were lucky, they would escape with mere battle damage. But between May 10 and May 23, 1940, nine crews and 11 aircraft were lost to enemy action. On the 25th still more were caught on the ground in a strafing attack at Clairmarais and destroyed.By the time of the Dunkirk evacuation, the Lysander squadrons had been decimated, having virtually no serviceable aircraft. Often their crews flew against intimidating odds, being called upon to air drop supplies without fighter escort to British or French troops, or provide ground support with their loads of 40 lb. bombs, all in skies increasingly dominated by the Luftwaffe. They inflicted damage along the way; on May 22 Flying Officer Dodge shot down a Henschel Hs 126 with his forward machine guns, while his rear gunner downed a Junkers Ju 87 Stuka. But this was the exception. Of 174 aircraft deployed to France, 88 were lost in air combat and 30 more destroyed on the ground by the time the French capitulated.
After Dunkirk, contemplating a loss rate of 63 percent, the RAF had little choice but to withdraw the Lysander from front line service — at least for daytime operations. The Lysander would go on to its greatest fame as the aircraft of choice for Special Operations Executive, a covert auxiliary of (and competitor to) the British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), charged by Winston Churchill with covert operations in the Occupied Countries and a mandate to “set Europe ablaze.” Soon, on a regular basis, Lysanders of No. 138 Squadron (Special Duties), painted matt black, inserted agents and their weapons, ammunition, explosives and other supplies, and withdrew shot-down airmen. Sometimes they withdrew people wanted by the Gestapo, or brought Resistance leaders back to London for briefings. Lysanders would later be used by both the British Commandos and the American Office of Strategic Services on similar operations in Europe and the Far East.
Landing in unprepared clearings or meadows at night, the landing ground identified by small torches lit by members of the Resistance, Lysanders helped sustain hope in Occupied Europe and Asia. By 1942 they were equipped with larger fuel tanks (starting with the Mk. IIIa) to allow penetration deeper into France, and their ladders touched up with flourescent paint to allow quicker ingress and egress from the plane. There was constant danger – one on occasion, a Lysander guided to a landing by torches touched down, only to be met by German machine gun fire. The pilot, Squadron Leader Conroy, slammed the throttle open and struggled to get airborne, stemming the blood from a neck wound by clamping his hand over it. Brushing the treetops at the edge of the landing field, he managed to return safely to England.
In the Middle East, Lysanders were able to operate longer in their original roles of artillery spotting and reconnaisance since Axis fighter aircraft were not as readily available. In Palestine, they flew throughout 1940 doing aerial blackout inspections, coastal watch, and general co-operation with the Palestine Police. In North Africa, No. 6 Squadron was deployed to Libya and was ordered to remain in Tobruk when the British retreated from Rommel’s Afrika Korps, providing close air support over the beseiged garrison, which continued to hold out. During the war, Lysanders were operated by Britain, France, Ireland, Canada, Finland, Egypt, and South Africa. By war’s end they were a rarity, except in Canada, where relatively large numbers of them persisted until the 1950’s.

The “deleted scene” refers to Stoker’s short story “Dracula’s Guest”, which features a proto-Jonathan Harker character traveling through Munich on his way to visit Count Dracula in Transylvania. If you’re interested, the team behind Re: Dracula has an audio drama version with the voices of Dracula and Jonathan reprising their roles, and Isablooo made a comic adaptation of this story with her own spin on characters and elements that appeared in Stoker’s drafts for Dracula.
Ohhhhhh Dracula's Guest! I've been meaning to read it but ah, I blinked and 1 year+ just flew by...paralysed by the wealth of things on the to do list.

Damn straight that 👑 P should be acknowledged by the Danes.
https://www.dr.dk/sporten/fodbold/pernille-harder-udbygger-imponerende-stime-med-tysk-mesterskab
Pernille Harder builds up an impressive streak with German championships
With Saturday's title, the Danish Bayern Munich star has won nine championships in a row.
In almost a decade, Pernille Harder has never played a season without winning a championship.
That impressive fact was underlined on Saturday when the soccer star and Bayern Munich won the German title with a 2-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
Thus, Pernille Harder, who was not in Saturday's game due to illness, is up to nine national championships in a row for four different clubs.
The 31-year-old striker has been at his best in Sweden with Linköping, in Germany with Wolfsburg, in England with Chelsea and again in Germany with Bayern Munich.
DR Sport's football commentator Arnela Muminovic does not hesitate to call Pernille Harder's feat unique.
- Pernille Harder has been a profile for each and every team, and in many ways it is unique that a Danish player has managed this. It is violent and huge, she says
It is difficult enough to win a championship, but to win nine in a row for four different clubs is almost unheard of, points out Arnela Muminovic.
- She has had to get used to a new club, league and teammates. After all, they are different systems and cultures, but she has still managed to become a profile, she says.
Why stop here, Harder?
When Pernille Harder moved from Skovbakken to Linköping in 2012, it was far from written that the Swedes would win the championship with the young striker. But they did, and the Dane was among the league's best.
Four years later, she moved to Germany and the big club Wolfsburg.
Pernille Harder re-established herself as a profile and won the championship, prompting England's Chelsea to buy her for what was then a record fee.
The national team captain played at Chelsea from 2020 to 2023 and won three championships before flying back to Germany last year and signing a contract with Bayern Munich.
- Although Pernille Harder has been injured quite a bit this season, she has still been decisive. From day one, she has made the offensive midfield her position and is a big part of the team, says Arnela Muminovic.
The Danish attack profile is never satisfied and is always looking for a new triumph, she continues.
- She does not stop at nine championships. She will take one more next year. And maybe again the following year. It is not the end, because Bayern Munich has taken the throne in Germany, says DR Sporten's football commentator.
- Pernille Harder has consolidated herself as one of the biggest in Danish football.
Pernille Harder can add another title to her collection on May 9 when Bayern Munich face Wolfsburg in the cup final.
