Okay, so this thought started out so so evil but it kind of evolved into sweet at the end, so thank me for not going full villain era here hehe Anyway, pulls out pitch notecards, picture this:
Buck has fallen back into a coma. And almost immediately he starts to notice the signs of the a coma dream - the difference in job, the way his brother is still alive, he seems to be suspicious, he seems to be starting to question this, wanting out, but -
But.
Then he sees Tommy.
Tommy apologizes that he's late.
Well.
Morning Late.
He knows Evan has classes to teach soon. But he was late coming back from work and he apologizes. He talks about how the private helicopter flight he was piloting was late to land; talks about this cute couple that proposed in the air.
Just like them, Tommy says, though, maybe Buck doesn't quite catch that.
Tells Buck he'll make it up to Evan, tells Evan he still has time to drive him to work if they go right now.
And.
Buck falters.
Tommy takes it wrong - tells Evan that they really don't have time for a quickie, even if it was record time.
And.
Buck goes with him.
Buck follows him to the vintage truck that Tommy had been tinkering on for forever and asks Tommy about that.
Tommy replies, confused.
Says that he fixed it a week ago, remember? He's been driving Evan to work in the car ever since. He asks if Evan's okay. He goes to check Buck's temperature.
And.
Buck notices the ring.
The ring on his hand.
The ring on Tommy's hand too.
And he tells Tommy, yes. Not that he's sick, but - but he wants to take a sick day. Tommy finds that curious - Evan rarely wants to take a sick day. The job is too important. And Evan hates being sick.
But.
Well.
It is their anniversary, after all. Tommy supposed they could take a day off together.
Play hookey.
Tommy could clear his schedule. Tommy asks Evan what he wants to do.
And.
Buck insists - he wants to do what Tommy wants to do.
And.
Tommy's a little shy about that. Tommy reminds Buck that it's their anniversary, not just Tommy's. But Buck insists - they always do what Buck wants to do. He wants to do what Tommy wants to do.
Tommy tries to charm Buck, says he loves doing what Evan loves, but Buck stands his ground.
So.
Tommy, against his better judgment, seems to fold.
And they go about doing a perfect day for Tommy.
Long ride down the coastal highway together. Late lunch at Michelli's (despite the curse! as they both joke). Love, Actually playing at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary. The rest of the night cozy in their home.
And all that time, Buck is just watching Tommy; watching Tommy be happy.
And when they finally get home, Buck is crying.
Confused and a little panicked, Tommy asks Buck what's wrong. Buck tells him that he knows this isn't real. He wanted to do it anyway, but he knew it wasn't real.
Because Tommy hadn't texted back. Because Buck hadn't tried to reach out either. But god, had he wanted at least one day with Tommy.
And they talk about it.
The breakup.
Why Tommy might be scared.
Why that fear hurt Buck.
Why this fell apart despite the love they clearly had.
And Tommy tells Evan that he knows they would make it.
Evan scoffs at that.
How could they?
It's been months.
Tommy responds that if it was him out there in the real world, well, he would be right at Evan's side if Evan was in a coma.
Evan wonders if he's right. He tells Tommy he's sorry; that he wished this was real.
Tommy understands; part of why he was there was to give Evan a little reprieve as he healed enough to wake up.
Evan kisses the coma Tommy goodbye, waking up.
Alone.
No one in the hospital room.
And at first, his heart sinks.
But.
Then, he hears Tommy outside of the room tiredly asking why Howie's not in the room with Evan; that Howie promised he'd keep Evan's company while Tommy got something to eat, something Howie made Tommy do.
Chimney apologizes, and Tommy's okay with it. Tommy apologizes too. Tommy explains that he's just tired and scared and worried, and he's walking into the hospital room and -
There.
Buck sees him.
He's haggard and sleep-deprived, but it's Tommy.
His Tommy.
And Evan couldn't help but croak out a tearful, "Tommy?"
Tommy.
Freezes.
His gaze at Evan becoming frenzied as he scrambles to put his cup down and rush over to Evan's side.
To hold Buck.
To hold Evan.
Collapsing on top of Buck as "I'm so sorry"s and "I love you"s spring from Tommy like a faucet, washing over Buck in sobs.
Tommy is holding Evan.
His Evan.
And Buck couldn't help but think as he weakly held Tommy as best as he could, that he was holding Tommy.
His Tommy.
And Buck didn't remember why he was in the hospital. He didn't know how long he had been there or what had happened since he fell into a coma. But he knows he can finally talk this through with Tommy.
That he never wants to let go of Tommy again.

Double Agent (very late) Secret Santa gift for @ncalabby
I wanted to pay Cabbage back for the amazing gift he made for me (I was not always her gifter, but I stepped up after the other person dropped out, it just happened to work out that way), and also give him something to show my appreciation for how much work she puts into his own stuff, and all the art she's given to the TF2 fandom!
💖✨💖✨
Despite it taking me forever to make, I had a lot of fun making this, and i'm really happy with how it turned out!
My first time recording my process + song inspiration below ⬇️
youtube
The car in the piece is a 1959 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible [6267F] from the Modern Talking song, Geronimo's Cadillac, from 1986
(which I got the idea from Cabbage, because he once made a post associating the song with the ship, Double Agent)

Here’s the sketch of the quick thing I posted before.
That’s literally it, like it’s nothing special I promise.
Straight from this to lineart then colour 💀

WIP Working intensely on tops for men. There are already shadows here and also a map of normals! Of course it took a lot longer than I thought it would. But it's worth it! I'm already on the right track. I'm really happy with how it turned out! Next I will finish the rest of the tops and I will make a fifth top, I want to do something interesting).

Page (4/14)
I wanted to share my process for my 14 page Nona comic, This got pretty long so the rest is under the cut!
First, I start by making a script, as I'm weeding through Nona I’m drawing immediate reactions. This way I don't have to keep track of action as well as dialogue. This is the most dialogue heavy page of the comic so this one has the most detailed panel break ups.
In this scene Alecto’s inner thoughts are my favorite part so I dedicated a lot of time figuring how to add them naturally. I especially love “The old man, Crux—the child Crux, barely one hundred years old”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once I have a rough, and I mean ROUGH thumbnail for the page I move on to creating a digital sketch.
Side note, you’ll notice I go back and forth from traditional to digital back to traditional. Having to fully redraw poses multiple times makes me really think about the action and what I want to include.
Thumbnailing is for figuring out panels. Sketching is for action and dialogue. I tend to show action and emotion over following all the rules of comic making. If you notice i break the 180 rule, but at the end of the day character interactions are more important to me.
Tumblr media
I redraw the sketch on comic paper in mechanical pencil. Again I don’t trace the digital work because I want the linework to stay loose. I just focus on lineweight and contrast at this step. The dialogue is written out first then I line everything else with my felt tip pen.
Tumblr media
I clean up the comic and replace the handwritten dialogue with a font I made out of my handwriting. This part is tedious but I really don't know how to skip it. My handwriting is too hard to read but I also need to make sure all the dialogue fits naturally, so that means doing it twice.
Tumblr media
My coloring process is really chaotic and can't be summed up in screenshots.
Crazy right? I am constantly adjusting, changing, and generally making a mess and then cleaning it up when I color. Often when my colors look off to me it's because I have a contrast problem, so I check it in greyscale.
If you want to know more I can share my brushes and techniques.
Tumblr media
And with that I’m done! And then I move on to the next page.

We Don't Gatekeep Art Resources | A Comprehensive List
Here's a list of some of the tools/sites I currently use or have used previously for works/studies. I'll separate it into Software/Utility, Reference, and 'Other' which will be just general things that could help you map out things for your experience with art. **[Free highlighted in pink, paid highlighted in green. Blue is variable/both. Prices Listed in USD]**
Software/Utility:
2D
Krita Painting app (PC) (my main digital art software on PC for 5+ yrs)
Clip Studio Paint [PC] [CSP 2.0+ allows for 3d modelling within the painting app and a lot of other cool features] [apparently allows up to 6 months free trial]
Procreate (12.99) [iPad/iPad Pro] (the GOAT)
Artstudio Pro [iPad/iPad Pro] (An alternative to Procreate if you enjoy the more traditional art app layout) -- I find this app handy when Procreate is lacking a feature I need, or vice versa. (you can easily transfer files between the two, but keep in mind Procreate's layer limit)
2D "Collaborative Painting/Drawing apps"
Magma Studio
Drawpile
Discord Whiteboard
Gartic Phone (Pretty decent for 2d animation practice, but has a hard limit on frames)
3D
Blender [3D Modelling, Sculpting + Layout] (PC)
Sculptris [PC] (it's an old unsupported version of Zbrush, but can help to get ideas out, and functions better than browser sculpting apps
Nomad Sculpt [iPad/iPad Pro] ($20) Works pretty well if you prefer a mobile setup, but it is a bit intense on the battery life and takes some getting used to
References + Study
Magic Poser [ PC and Mobile ] Has both free and paid versions, I've made do with just the lite version before
Artpose ($9.99) [Iphone + Steam]
Head Model Studio [IPhone] A 3D head, with both a basic blockout version for angles, and a paid version with more detail
Cubebrush [simply search "[keyword] pose reference pack"], they usually have good results + they frequently have sales!
Line of Action [Good for Gesture practice + daily sketching], also has other resources built in.
Quickposes Similar to Line of action, more geared toward anatomy
Drawabox | Perspective Fundamentals Improvement modules (Suggested by @taffingspy )
Sketchfab, this skull in particular is useful, but there is other models that can help you study anatomy as well.
Pinterest can be good, you just have to be careful, usually you're better off just finding reference pack if you have the money, sometimes certain creators have freebies as well
Artstation Marketplace can be decent [make sure to turn on the Aye-Eye filter so it doesn't feed you trash], a colleague of mine recommended this head model for practicing facial blocking, there is also this free version without lighting.
Local Art Museums [Unironically good for studying old "master work" if you're into that, or even just getting some inspiration]
Brushes + Other Useful software:
I personally have used both of these brush packs before making my own
(I actually don't know how to share my daily brush set because I frequently switch between Krita, Procreate, and ASP, but once I figure that out I'll be sure to do that lol)
Marc Brunet's Starter brush pack [Technically free but supporting him for this if you like it is ideal, there's some good brushes]
Dave Greco Brush Pack [$3]
Gumroad in general is a good place to find brushes and art resources. *Note; for Krita specifically, brush packs are a bit weird, so it may require you to find different packs, or import them in a particular way
PureRef [PC] - Reference Compiler/Moodboarding
VizRef ($3.99) [iPad] - Moodboarding/Reference Compiler
Artist Youtubers/Creators that helped me improve/guide me along as a self-taught artist from when I first started digital art to where I am today:
Proko
Marco Bucci
Sinix Design
Sycra
Hardy Fowler
Lighting Mentor
Winged Canvas
Moderndayjames
Swatches
Chommang_drawing
Marc Brunet (YTartschool)
+ Observing a lot of speedpaint art by people whose work I enjoy on social media/youtube, trying to dissect their processes
If you've gotten this far, first of all, congrats, you can read a lot, and second of all, thank you for reading and I hope this helps! I'll continue to come back and update this if I find any new resources in the future, or if my processes change :)
Much Love,
-Remidiy

Do you have any general tips for people who want to start making comics based off of your experience doing Scarlet lady?
Like, how do you decide which background you draw and which you don't? How to decide which parts of the episode you will draw and which you won't? How do you plan everything before making the panels (from the script to thumbnailing to the final version and etc), Etc
I answered a question about ✨My Process✨ 4 years ago, so you can read about that here.
I usually use backgrounds for an establishing shot (so the audience knows where in the world the characters are) and if the perspective calls for one (no floating characters - if you can see their feet, they need to be standing on something). But usually if two characters are near each other and just talking, you don't need a background (especially in greyscale - then the panel can get muddled and hard to "read" visually).
Usually I'll skip action scenes just because I can't really draw them (or I'll condense them). And I tended to skip scenes that didn't add anything to my particular AU, or I implied that they happened just as they did in canon just so I could fast forward through them.
And the paneling is explained in the 4 year old post!

Back panels done, and roughly pinned in place to see how it lays! I was too optimistic with thinking that my 100 squares would be enough for both the front and back 😭 I only have 15 squares (plus one star) left over. Definitely not enough to fill the whole front panel. My guess is I need 50 more for everything including the shoulder strap and sleeve. I'm running out of fabric, plus I need to make 3 more stars for the front! So much left to do!
I was originally gonna put batting and a backing on the dress below the waistline but I'm starting to question that, because I do want the classic quilted look, but it would also make it really heavy...and possibly droopy looking? I'm really not sure. I am open to advice if anyone has some. Idk wtf I'm doing.
I've ordered another sapphire sky layer cake, which is what I've been using--except this time I got one that includes light blues as well, which will be perfect for tying the two halves together with similar fabric patterns. I already have some cool sky fabrics for the daytime side:

Lol no but like what if... glances down at pitch notecards... tosses them aside and pulls out the pepe silvia board.
Tumblr media
Okay, so picture this: Buck's looking to date. It's going to be a rebound, but he's trying to convince himself it's not a rebound. Is he still baking? Sure. But that's just - that's just his thing now, okay? He bakes. And thinks about Tommy. But he's trying not to, so he's trying to date.
And at first, he seems to have this very sweet meet-cute with a girl. She seems nice. It feels like a chance encounter. They decide to go out on a date.
But wait.
The audience knows who that woman is.
It's the serial killer.
And it starts a few months earlier with Tommy.
Tommy fucking Kinard, kidnapped by this woman, somehow fumbling his way to his phone. And he doesn't call 9-1-1. Cell service is abysmal. No, he tries to text Buck.
Evan.
He tries to tell him sorry and that he loves Evan, only for the serial killer to catch him.
And.
Gets confused by why he tried to text this Evan guy instead of calling 9-1-1.
Tommy finds himself telling the story of his entire six-month romance with one Evan "Buck" Buckley, thinking this might be the last time he'll ever be able to talk about the man he loves.
And the love. The passion. The sweetness. The domesticity. The excitement. The yearning.
It captivates the serial killer.
So much so that.
The serial killer?
She wants that for her own.
She wants that story to be hers but with a happy ending.
She falls in love with the idea of the romcom that Tommy had with this Evan Buckley guy.
And what seems to be cutesy is flipped and you get a gender swapped You scenario - this woman stalking and forcing happy accidents so that she might get to her goal of dating Buck.
There's a comedy and a horror to this woman forcing all the stars to align for her; to take all the romance that Tommy had and try to reverse engineer it into this potential relationship with Evan. It's distorted in the framework of some Crazy Ex-Girlfriend delusion.
And while she's seemingly proud of what she's doing, well, something doesn't quite feel right to Evan. They seem to have so much in common. There seem to be all these beats that make him feel cared for by her.
But.
But something feels slightly off; like someone moved everything one inch to the left. And he's not sure why it's feeling like that. And he's not sure why half the time it just feels like something he would do with Tommy.
And Buck, despite himself, can't stop goddamn baking.
Things start to unravel at the seams. And the serial killer has to get Maddie out of the way after Maddie notices something suspicious, leaving Maddie with Tommy in her secret underground cage.
Tommy and Maddie, stuck together in the cage, get to talking. Tommy basically tells Maddie that he's been in the cage since he bubbled Evan - which had been a few months ago. A little before the girl Buck is currently dating, the serial killer, started pursuing Buck... with insider knowledge unknowingly at first by Tommy.
After Maddie and Tommy debrief each other, they devise a plan to get out of the cage.
Meanwhile, the perfect romcom cutesy homemade romantic dinner date that the serial killer is trying to have with Buck is not really going as planned. She's hitting all the right beats, goddammit, it's just Buck.
Buck is not playing his part right and it's messing up the fantasy.
He's sad. He's admitting that the dinner feels a lot like these dinners he had with his ex (dinners he had with Tommy, who the serial killer got the idea from in the first place). He apologizes and starts talking about how he's really not over his ex.
Also, his sister hasn't been messaging back and he's worried that she might have run away again; might be suffering a bout of depression. Or maybe he's just been too annoying lately and she's been purposefully ignoring his texts the last day or so.
And.
All of that.
Pisses the serial killer off.
Now it's a race against time as the serial killer, disillusioned with Buck, decides he should be her next victim - she already partially drugged him with the wine.
And there's a difference between Buck actively fighting off and running from this serial killer as the drugs kick in and the serial killer still seeing the romcom delusion with a slasher twist to it - similar to Harley Quinn's visions in The Suicide Squad.
Meanwhile, Tommy and Maddie are hearing the sounds of the dinner upstairs going awry and are quickly doing their best to break out of the cage they were in - and they do!
They burst out of the basement, surprising both Buck and the serial killer as Tommy tackles her and Maddie checks if Buck is okay since he is definitely drugged.
Maddie makes a crack about how she might be 9-1-1, but they should probably call the actual 9-1-1.
The serial killer is taken into custody and Tommy, Maddie, and Buck are all sent to get checked out.
At the hospital, Buck and Maddie talk about what happened. How Buck is stunned he didn't realize he was dating a serial killer. How Maddie put some pieces together because she recognized the screen on Tommy's phone at the serial killer's house - a picture of Buck and Tommy at Billy Boils' grave. Maddie has a little heart-to-heart with Evan about what she and Tommy talked about and suggests that maybe it would be okay to at least visit Tommy.
Buck is heading to visit Tommy in his room, but Tommy actually finds Buck first. Tommy makes a crack about being in the 118 wing. Tommy talks about getting kidnapped. Thinking he was going to die. Realizing he still had his phone on him, but only wanting to text Buck that he loved Buck and that he was sorry while he still had the chance.
Because he didn't think that he could make a call from the basement to 9-1-1 with the room seemingly being a cell service dead spot. And at least if he typed out that he loved Buck and that he was sorry, that might get to Buck if his cell phone got out of the room.
That was the bubbling.
But then the serial killer caught him in the act.
And in a depression sink, thinking that there was no way out and that he was going to die, he found himself answering her question to him - why text Evan if he could have tried calling 9-1-1?
Tommy apologizes profusely. He had never expected the woman would try to use that information to date Evan. He hates that he told her his story in such a way that she wanted to basically crawl into his metaphorical skin and play tourist in the relationship Tommy realized he regretted ending because he was too scared of it hurting him. And Tommy understands if Evan never wants to see him again, but he still loves Evan and wants to make it work.
Buck confesses that his relationship with the serial killer had always felt weird and with this information, he realizes it's because it was everything he wanted except the person he wanted it to be with - Tommy. That every time he wanted to text Tommy, he would bake, and god, Buck had been baking up a storm. He had baked so much he was giving away loaves. He was still baking. He had baked earlier that day.
Buck want this. And Tommy wants this. But they both understand how hurtful the last breakup was. They acknowledge where the problems might be. They decide to not only go by Buck's pace, but by Tommy's pace too. To try to be more open about how they feel. Try to make this work.
Because they love each other. And they were always going to find each other again in the end.

My Process for this illustration :D
Tumblr media
I wanted to do this in a seperate post, because not everybody might be interested in this, but here are my basic steps/my basic approach for this particular painting.
This is a J.C. Leyendecker study, so I used the leyendecker painting below as reference for the colours and the folds of the shirt.
The photo beside that was my pose reference. John is entirely my creation and the scratchy background is inspired by other leyendecker pieces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The intitial sketch for this was very rough, as you can see. John stayed a formless blob for quite a while, until I refined the sketch. I don't know if I succeeded with adding the horns. I'm not sure I like them. I certainly don't think I managed to capture the expression that John had in the sketch. It didn't translate into the painting in the end. I'm still happy with the result.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This took a little less than 5 hours from start to finish.
You can find a version without all my talking here.

Here’s a little sneak peek into my process for this painting of Rexy and Cera 💙💛 To start, I set up a super basic scene in Blender with simple shapes to block out the forest. Then I posed Rexy and Cera, framed the shot, and brought it all into Procreate to paint over the 3D render and give it that soft, painterly vibe. ✨ This piece was such a joy to work on, even though I chipped away at it between other projects, I loved watching it slowly come to life. I'm so pumped to make more like this and explore storytelling through these two characters. Would you like to see more of this style? 🦖🌿🦕
Let me know what you think!

how do you get all those little markings to stay put on your sculptures?? i admit i dont have much experience with ceramics, but i could never get clean lines with the glaze!
Great question! I don't know if anyone could do what I do with glaze; you'd have to be some kind of master worker or something, lol. The color markings on my sculptures aren't glaze—they're actually made using pigments, "stains" that can be painted onto bare clay and then covered with clear glaze.
Here, I'll put some pictures and explanation below the cut if you want to see the studio setup I have for this:
okay! so! I've got a lot of Mason Stains, which are powders specially made to survive the kiln heat and retain their color. I keep them on this shelf here, like so:
Tumblr media
(my studio setup is in my bedroom, thus the open closet door next to my Stains Shelf.)
Anyway, next I take the powder pigment and mix it a little at a time with liquid starch, which is a pain but makes it less likely that I will accidentally touch the sculpture wrong and have all the powder come off onto my fingers like normal dust.
Tumblr media
I then apply the pigment to the sculpture with a paintbrush and, if necessary, edit my lines by scraping the pigment back off with a sharp needle-point tool. Scraping the pigment off is how I do things like the white fur markings on the werewolf sculpture!
You can see the full process of my sculpture painting below with the the werewolf. Step 1 is to make the body; step 2 is to put pigments on; and step 3 is to add clear glaze and fire it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can also see how the pigments rest underneath the glaze in this photo of a moon bunny, where you can see how the clear glaze cracked ("crackled") as it cooled. The glaze also developed little bubbles, which you can see above the blue pigment in the inside of the bunny's ear. <3
