#and their team just got blown out of the playoffs by the penticton vees#blorbos from my friends' del player lore#my ig algorithm is not seeing heaven but this one did send me down a rabbit hole#okotoks oilers are part of five alberta teams who defected from ajhl to the bchl#and EYE did not know that bchl defected from hockey canada and the chl. bc i do not follow junior hockey. so its completely independent#so these five alberta teams defected not just from ajhl but hockey canada entirely#APPARENTLY bc the bchl is way better at getting their kids into ncaa and draft eligibility#which was cool. thinkin about the kids futures#anyway then i started digging around the bchl ig to see if they do free games so we could do a watch party :) they don't#and there are bizarrely toxic things happening between the whl and bchl#but the bchl had NINETY-THREE players in the ncaa playoffs this year which fascinated me#so clearly it's working lol#anyway. imagine ur otp#okotoks oilers#hockey for ts

there are simply so many things about ""fandom"" that are profoundly baffling to me
#i just dont see the point. what is there to get out of this#as one person's niche specialty sure we've all got dumb shit to go to bat for#but as things 'fandom' as a broad group of people love doing constantly all the time? like. why#ill tell you man i dont love that my ''thing'' right now is an actually large/popular franchise#actually impossible to avoid 'the 'fandom' types' and fandomization as a whole.#bringing back a nastier side of me id rather not revisit.#i dont go out of my way to interact with fandom ever but my work is such#that it's usually pretty good at attracting the kind of people i do vibe with so its still chill#but with such large audiences even a niche crowd is far less.... discerning#and then of course whatever the algorithm picks up and shows you is going to be far less catered. i dont CARE. uuuggghhhh#glass houses of course im hardly any better myself these days. but like.#i think if you dont hold at least a little contempt for the term/concept of ''fandom'' im going to be wary of you.#i look out from my glass house and i think what the FUCK are you doing over there

Is the video game really subverting its genre? Are you sure it's not just doing clever things within its genre, because otherwise the game would be boring and unchallenging and say nothing interesting? I'm just saying, it's cool and all that the internet allows horror game fandoms to overflow into eachother, but not EVERY 2 hour video essay needs to be spent breathlessly sucking off the devs. Sometimes a game is just REGULAR difficult and REGULAR high-quality.
Besides RPGs made over a decade ago, what is the thing supposedly subverting? Clearly not other contemporary indie horror games, because there is clearly a convergent ethos forming of cosmic horror and beginners' traps; that's just what the genre looks like nowadays.

Stick of Truth is a bog standard RPG just with a quirky tutorial#and creative integration of its off-beat story and mechanics RIGHT??#my point is Patho and F&H aren't actually much different; they still play like RPGs still handle like RPGs#the fact that you die more than you would in COD or Skyrim or whatever doesn't make it the “anti-RPG”#anymore than Seinfeld was the “anti-sitcom”#“subversiveness” is just a basic bitch way to analyze things; and I think “How does the art take ADVANTAGE of its genre?” is better#media criticism

you can always tell the people who give social media advice who are naturally or conventionally attractive even without even having to look at a photo of them cause they're always the ones that recommend showing your face in reels or videos to promote your art and it's like,,, talk about pretty/skinny privilege lol

Tumblr's algorithm is a hot broken mess (good thing) but I swear it weighs Disco Elysium more heavily than anything else.
Like something? That's a lot of posts. Reblog something? Your feed is DE now and you better like it. Think of DE in passing but not do anything on the site or say anything a mic could pick up? Have some posts anyway.
And it doesn't matter how much time passes, if you have ever interacted with a DE post, the algorithm will forever show you other DE posts mixed in with other things it thinks you'll like.
#i should be shown other things given my site usage#but disco elysium makes up so much of it especially if i reblog something#there are times when it's just my dash in a random order and de posts for the 'new' ones#and to be clear while it can be annoying at times it's miles better than other social media algorithms#this is what i get for reblogging a de post weeks/months ago#and i fully expect making this post will kick off another bout of my feed being indistinguishable from the de tag

I find it funny how I literally sabotaged my first paralive edit on youtube (it was also a subbed 'mv' so it wasn't even a shitpost). Like I had the video upload and Tumblr post scheduled and everything, but I just had to talk about Hajun being a sussy little bitch on one of Bae's songs earlier that day.
