Pokemon Card of the Day #3217: Mr. Mime (Detective Pikachu)

Mr. Mime was maybe the card in the Detective Pikachu set with the most promise. It could actually get cards from your Prizes, though admittedly in the not most reliable way to find what you wanted. There were, of course, decks that had certain cards that only were useful against specific decks, and if you could know that was on top of your deck you actually had a play to stash an unneeded card away to try to hit something better. This would require clear knowledge of what was there, or better yet a way to manipulate that result. And as it turned out, a couple of ways did exist, and this small role for Mr. Mime actually had a chance to work.

80 HP wasn't going to win any awards, and Mr. Mime could fall to most attacks. This generally only mattered when the opponent was down to a single Prize since it wasn't like this was a huge priority to get rid of. The Psychic Weakness basically didn't matter due to the HP. The only reason the Retreat Cost of 1 was nice was that it made it a lot easier to switch out if this was your only Basic at the start of a game. This would happen sometimes even with a deck filled with Basics as was common at the time.

Pantomime was an Ability that only worked when playing Mr. Mime from your hand onto your Bench during your turn. You could switch 1 of your face-down Prize cards with the top card of your deck. Without some support, you were just fishing for some luck here, as you were switching 2 cards basically blind. Magcargo could make sure you got rid of a certain card with its Ability, and it was actually a decent idea with that around. Oranguru from Sword and Shield also did a great job of manipulating that top card, and then Rebel Clash came out with Scoop Up Net. Sometimes, Mr. Mime + Oranguru or Magcargo + Scoop Up Net could give you a few chances to hit an important card in the Prizes, and the combo became rather popular in decks like Zacian and Coalossal. Granted, there isn't a ton of data from the era due to the pandemic wiping out major tournaments, but it showed up a decent amount in online play.

Juggling was pretty bad. 2 Energy got you 4 coin flips, and each heads was 20 damage. You wanted to attack with something else, not Mr. Mime.

Mr. Mime, when paired with the right support (especially late with Oranguru and Scoop Up Net), could give a way to fish through your Prizes while giving up something less useful in return. This wasn't for every deck, and there was still luck involved, but if you commonly needed to find that one card to help with a match-up, this was one of the better ways to do it. Having the extra help was basically required, for what it's worth, so you were committing a decent bit of deck space here. Luckily, all the other pieces were useful in other situations, and the result was the best card from Detective Pikachu by a decent margin.

Hey! :) I’ve wanted to play d&d for a while now, and after getting into critical role i finally decided to convince my friends to play with me. None of us have played before, so im both exited and a bit nervous since i’ll be the dm. We don’t know anyone who plays, and i’m not very comfortable with palying with strangers, so we’ll be diving right in together! Do you or your followers have any tips or good resources to recommend for new players and/or dms? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! :D

I’m very flattered that you would ask me for DMing tips, but I just have to preface this saying that I am a first time DM myself and I am currently on session 13 of my campaign. But I can see if I can list some things that I found useful building my first campaign :) And I totally feel you not being comfortable with strangers, I play with a group of friends and we were all first time players when we started!

Let’s start with resources! (I will put the links in a reblog bc tumblr is a dick about posts with external links in them. Sry for the hassle!)

Probably a bit redundant, but nevertheless very helpful: The core rulebooks for D&D. Which is to say The Dungeon Master Guide, The Monster Manual and The Players Handbook. Bc those are expensive as fuck, check out this lovely thing (1).

Then, depending on whether you play online or live: Roll20.net (2) You can invite your players to your campaign and make maps for encounters with minis on them, you can insert music that plays in the background and it also rolls dice for you if you have to roll a big amount of dice and don’t want to do math ;)

There is an encounter builder on kobold-fightclub (3) that can help you balance encounters according to your party’s level! I have found it quite helpful and it’s also an easy way to filter monsters for a specific terrain when you know that you’ll be running through a swamp/desert/cave etc.!

I also found this this cheat sheet very helpful, esp regarding the different conditions that I can never seem to remember.

Then, ofc, one of CR’s sponsors: dndbeyond (4). Me and my friends bought a subscription bc damn is it useful to be able to click on anything on your character sheet and see what the hell it means. It also helps you track your spellslots/HP etc. during combat. 

Something I also did was watch Matt’s videos (5) on how he DMs. Altho it bears to say: Don’t compare yourself to Matt Mercer. It will only stress you out. 

You like maps? So do I! Check these out (6/7). 

You want to keep track of your npcs and important lore and places and everything? You could try worldanvil (8)! It’s like building a wiki for your own world!

And then about tips. It is probably easier to give tips when you have specific questions than it is to give general tips, but I’ll do my best! I’m sure many experienced DMs want to chime in and add to it :)

Communication is (as with most things in life) key to everything. Get together with your players for a Session 0 and just talk about what kind of game you want to run and what kind of game they want to play. There are people who like combat more than roleplay or vice versa. There are people who want to play an evil campaign or they want a lot of political intrigue or they are soft marshmallows like I am and don’t want permanent character deaths and so on and so on. Just get together and talk about what you guys want to create. Also talk about the characters with each individual player.Ask them about triggers they have, so you can avoid topics. Ask them how they feel about an NPC flirting with their character. It goes the other way around as well! Tell them about your boundaries and your expectations. One of my friends wanted to make a character with a neutral evil alignment. I told that it’s fine, as long as there’s the prospect for the character to evolve towards a neutral or good alignment, bc I have no interest in dm-ing an “evil” campaign. 

Something that might make running a campaign easier for you is if your players’ characters already know each other before the game starts. If you’re like me you will sweat bullets thinking about how to get them to work towards a common goal. If they’re already friends/rivals/lovers/colleagues/members of the same adventuring guild you will not have that problem. And they can give you some notes on how they envision the relationships to be/how they met.

You can start your adventure with one of the official adventures that are out there if you want to! You don’t have to do a whole ton of worldbuilding like I did bc I’m a crazy person and have my whole setting homebrewed. If not, you can always make life as easy as possible for yourself and start small! Build a small town with a few key NPCs, put a small assortment of possible quests there and then only roughly sketch out what you want the “outside world” to look like. I as a player love some context when I build characters, so if you want to give your players a small introduction into the campaign setting, I think that would be helpful and also helps creating characters who fit into your setting! If you want to run a campaign that has tons of dragons and poisoned oceans that cannot be crossed by mortals it would be sad if a player came to you and gave you the character sheet for a sailor.

If you do a whole campaign, I found it helpful to have a rough idea about different factions and two or three major events that shape your world. Ideas for later quests will eventually tie into big world events when the players get higher level!

Draw yourself a map. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or anything, but at some point there will be a question about “where is the next big city, we need to buy healing potions” and you will feel much safer if you just have a piece of paper (analogue or virtual) with like... a rough outline, some landmarks and some cities on it. At least that’s how it was for me!

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Don’t beat yourself up if your first quests are “standard” stuff like “Take care of this giant rat infestation in the cellar of the tavern.” or “My purple dragoncat has been abducted, please get him back for me.”. I started my campaign with small quests before getting to a small arc and then I want to work towards bigger arcs eventually. But for new players and a new DM I found it very helpful to keep things low stakes to not stress anyone out too much. If you fuck up the giant rat infestation, the world will not end, you know? That is nice. Also works well as a tutorial for everyone! Combat is intimidating! So many rules! Take your time to figure out how stuff works with some nice, small quests and some not-too-complex-combat encounters!

You don’t have to follow every rule. There are so many rules for everything and that can be helpful but it can also be stressful. You don’t have to do everything by the book and if you notice that some rules annoy you and your players, you can always change them as you go along! (Cats have nightvision. Sometimes the rulebooks are dumb.)

Don’t get hung up on too many details. I love worldbuilding, but I get obsessive easily. Sometimes I think my world isn’t ready enough bc I tend to think like a writer who has to have everything figured out. That is not the case with d&d! Sure, It’s good if you know stuff. But d&d is not only about planning, it’s also about improvising. And the world will grow while you play in it! Before you know it you’ll go like “I want to have an encounter with this cool ice monster. I need an icy landscape.” and then you will make one. And maybe it wasn’t there before, but who cares. Your players will be excited and you can make up the lore as you move along!

Bahasa Korea merupakan bahasa ke-13 yang teramat banyak dipakai dalam dunia sekarang ini, seputar 77,dua juta pengucap asli di Korea Utara, Korea Selatan, Cina, serta daerah-daerah dari Jepang serta Rusia.

Bahasa Korea lalu menjadi kian bertambah keterkenalannya sejalan dengan menjalarnya Kpop dan Kdrama di belahan dunia. Banyak beberapa orang non-Korea lalu berkeinginan untuk pelajari bahasa yang satu ini.

Bahasa Korea termasuk cukup ringan jika dibanding dalam bahasa Mandarin atau Jepang, karena bahasa Korea tidak punya dan gunakan huruf kanji. Pada prinsipnya, bahasa Korea memanglah dicetak oleh Raja Sejong yang Agung (1397-1450) di tahun 1443 saat Dinasti Joseon menjadi usaha peringkasan alfabet Tionghoa yang biasa dipakai ketika itu.

Jika Anda pengin belajar bahasa dan huruf Korea buat kepentingan pekerjaan atau cuma untuk bersuka-ria, ini adalah beberapa strategi dan langkah belajar bahasa Korea yang menarik dan simpel. Menyaksikan sinetron Korea dengan bahasa aslinya, atau coba mendalami lagu serta menyanyi bersama aktris Korea idola yaitu satu diantara langkah pertama untuk kenalan dengan bahasa yang satu ini.

Ada beberapa pendekatan yang bakal menjadikan Anda terampil dengan bahasa Korea. Mengambil dari web Kementerian Luar Negeri Korea Selatan, di bawah ini yakni cara-cara belajar bahasa Korea dengan ringan dan cepat.

1. Dalami Hangeul

Cara belajar bahasa Korea yang pertama yaitu dengan pelajari beberapa hurufnya yang disebutkan Hangeul. Pada awal belajar bahasa asing, Anda mesti kuasai alfabet yang dipakai oleh bahasa asing itu (kalau ada) secara menyeluruh. Ini menjadi awal mula yang bagus dalam perjalanan Anda ke arah kepenguasaan bahasa.

Faktanya, alfabet Korea tak serumit yang dilihat ketimbang dalam bahasa serta alfabet Asia lainnya. Tak seperti bahasa yang lain berevolusi dari piktogram, Hangeul dicetak oleh Raja Sejong di tahun 1443. Bahasa ini dibentuk dengan maksud supaya jadi sesimpel barangkali buat dipakai oleh orang.

Sebelum tersedianya Hangeul, orang Korea gunakan watak Cina. Alfabet Hangeul terdiri dalam 24 huruf (14 konsonan dan 10 vokal). Wujud konsonan didasari di wujud yang diambil mulut pada waktu penuturan. Sementara huruf vocal terdiri dalam garis horizontal dan vertikal.

Tidak terlalu berlebih untuk menjelaskan jika Anda bisa belajar Hangul cuma dalam dua jam. Kelebihan yang lain yaitu kalau Hangul yakni bahasa yang seutuhnya fonetik. Maknanya, nyaris selalu kedengar sama hal yang tercatat (dengan pengecualian aturan-aturan pelafalan, akan tetapi peraturan itu bisa didalami dengan amat cepat).

Misalnya, lebih dari 60% kata dengan bahasa Inggris berisi huruf yang tidak bisa dibaca (knee, wrist, daughter, island dll.). Hangul dalam perihal tersebut jauh makin simpel serta lebih gampang untuk terkuasai. Tergantung pada posisi musuh bercakap, Anda perlu pilih style bicara. Apabila Anda seorang pemula, Anda harus awali dengan type yang sah yang sopan.

2. Ciptakan Kosakata

Cara belajar bahasa Korea yang ke-2 dengan meningkatkan kosakata yang Anda punyai. Sesudah kuasai Hangeul, Anda mulai dapat membuat kosakata. Lebih bagus mengawali dengan angka (angka Korea dan China kekeduanya dipakai di negara Korea), hari dalam 1 minggu, dan frasa omongan sederhana.

Kemudian masukkan ujaran yang terkait dengan argumen Anda belajar bahasa. Bila Anda memilih untuk belajar bahasa Korea untuk berlibur, tekuni lebih jauh ujaran yang berkenaan dengan transportasi dan arah. Kalau senang makanan Korea, karena itu studi kalimat yang terjalin dengan makanan.

3. Pahami Kata-Kata Utang atau Konglish

Cara belajar bahasa korea yang ke-3 dengan ketahui kalimat konglish atau utang. Bahasa Korea mempunyai banyak kata utang dan kata Inggris jenis Korea yang dikatakan “Konglish” (Bahasa Korea + Inggris). Kalimat semacam ini adalah sisi penting dari kosakata tiap hari. Kata utang yaitu kalimat yang bernada dan mempunyai makna yang serupa dengan kalimat bahasa Inggris. Ujaran ini gampang dikenang, lantaran kedengar seperti bahasa Inggris, meskipun dengan dialek Korea.

Sebagai contoh:

컵 (keop) = cangkir 카페 (ka-pe) = kafe 초콜릿 (cho-kol-lit) = cokelat 카메라 (ka-me-ra) = camera 택시 (taek-si) = taksi 인터넷 (in-teo-net) = internet Kata konglish yang lain kedengar seperti kata bahasa Inggris, namun punya makna yang berbeda. Orang Korea kerap menyingkat sejumlah kata bahasa Inggris mau membuat kata konglish anyar, contohnya:

에어컨 (AC) = Air Conditioner 노트 (catatan) = buku catatan Cari ujaran dasar konglish lewat cara online serta Anda dapat kaget mendapatkan jika banyak kata Korea yang sebetulnya telah Anda kenali.

4. Kelilingi Diri dengan Bahasa Korea

Cara belajar bahasa Korea yang ke-4 yaitu dengan melingkari diri Anda dalam bahasa Korea di kehidupan tiap hari. Ini adalah metode terbaik untuk menaruh data di kepala Anda berkaitan bahasa Korea. Anda juga bisa mengganti setting bahasa di mobile phone jadi bahasa Korea atau menulis catatan pengingat untuk kegiatan harian terencana ke bahasa Korea.

Mengelilingi diri pribadi dalam bahasa Korea tak mempunyai arti menguras tenaga diri dengan belajar tiap tiap jam dan hari. Kebalikannya, Anda bisa habiskan waktu luang secara wajar. Untuk latihan bahasa Korea, Anda bisa memanfaatkan waktu saat pergi kerja atau istirahat makan siang di universitas atau kantor. Test diri Anda dengan kontribusi kartu kosa kata atau ambil beberapa permainan pengajaran berbahasa Korea yang memikat di hp. Kalau Anda kerap berkendara serta memakai handsfree, karenanya dengar buku audio serta podcast kegemaran Anda yang berbahasa Korea.

5. Putuskan Macam Evaluasi Anda

Cara belajar bahasa Korea yang ke-5 yaitu dengan tentukan type evaluasi yang dapat Anda aplikasikan. Salah satunya model simple, tapi penting buat mendalami bahasa dengan cara cepat dengan memastikan model evaluasi individual. Ada tiga jenis evaluasi pokok, yaitu:

visual (kenangan visual bekerja dengan baik); auditori (info lebih gampang diserap serta ditaruh oleh telinga); kinetik (mengingat memakai pergerakan). Guess This Blog Is Going Inactive as Intsys Works Hard To Make Me Quit

Recently there are a lot of problems with Fire Emblem Heroes that became apparent and enough is enough.

1. The duo Ephraim being one time only.

They have dug their heels in as of the time I am writing this; Ephraim duo will be a one and done period end of story. The duos are a HUGE power creep all around and they are going to be ultra limited which makes total sense from a business perspective. They want your money and they hate the player base as they have shown time and again therefore of course they will make the best units in the game buy only. Personally I am super tired of this bullshit when once I have a team I know can handle the content I can autobattle all the content to completion the first day it comes out.

2. The numbers on Legendary Leif were fucky.

When it comes to interaction online I tend to see a pool of three or four hundred people and for any given unit it tends to be between twenty and thirty percent of the player base gets the most sought after unit. Well I didn’t see that with Leif and then I started talking to people who had begun throwing money at the game and still no luck so I broadened my pool to a thousand people. One got Leif; OK so I went to close to two thousand people, two got Leif. There have been rumors that in the legendary banners this year there is a second set of hidden rarity where within their colour the featured person sits around ten percent while the others in the colour sit around forty five. I didn’t care about the last few but went back and looked online and...yeah it’s close. I think the numbers are closer to 40-40-20 but still. Again they want your money and they hate the player base as they have shown time and again therefore of course they will make the best unit in the pull ultra rare compared to others. 

3. The power creep has made +10ing non-five star units as five star units obsolete.

I think I noticed during the last forging bonds was that the numbers looked off so I have sat down and compared an IV neutral 40+10 Lukas Sharp Soldier with 40+0 Forscyth. Lukas has: +2 HP -1 Att +8 Spd -5 Def -10 Res Total: Net of -6 So the range tends to be +/- 5% between the new 40+0 five star only characters and a 40+10 character that can be gotten at four star or lower.  Add in the type of weapons these new characters can get compared to the weapons the four stars and under can get. Sure I can pour everything in terms of super rare abilities and stuff to cover that 5% gap but how many five stars will that take? Exceptionally high investment and how wide does that gap get when I put the average version of the same abilities on the 40+0 five star only? Sure you can totally stan your favs so you don’t need to care about these one time only duos except in order to stan your favs you need things like Heavy Blade 4 which means you need to get copies of things like one time duos to blow up. So you get all the grind and being screwed around with; with the additional resource grind. Yes new units should be stronger at 40+0 than a four star upgraded to a 40+0 five star. The new units should dwarf them BUT if I am spending the hours to gather a minimum of 200,000 feathers, plus pulling till I get 10 copies of the guy I want from a massive pool seeing as you naturally will dwarf me with your weapon and on board abilities I should at least have comparable stats to say a 40+1 character that is five star only.

4. I found a game that is player friendly gatcha and makes all your old investments good again with often without you needing to make any additional investment.

In Final Fantasy Dissidia Opera Omnia they don’t peek-a-boo you with characters at the last minute they at the beginning of the month show you what is coming over the next five weeks. You need gear and not characters and in order to guarantee the best gear in the game for a particular character you need to make a maximum of fifteen 10+1 item pulls costing you a total of 75000 gems. Every month they give away a minimum of about 25,000 gems. They also give away a minimum of fifty single shot tickets where the best item in a pull has a 1% chance of showing up.  You don’t need to get the newest best item from every banner to rock the game; yes there are a handful of characters you really should have to ensure your ability to do end game content (Warrior of Light, Sharlotta, Ultimecia) but people can still clear content without them.  And here’s the best part they upgrade the older characters to bring them up to the new base line, so for example I invested a lot into Zell and he did great for me for a long while but he fell off. This week or next, I can't remember off the top of my head his abilities will be changed to make him viable in the new age with no extra pulling or work required. Once they cycle through updating all the characters? They start over again re-updating all the characters so your favs never get left behind forever. Also when they introduce a new game mechanic everyone will eventually get it, so in my Zell case now that they have entered an ability level called EX+ Zell will one day get the EX+ and cause I have all his stuff I will have to grind item upgrade resources from weekly events and not have to pull a banner to give it to him. One day he will get something called a Burst, and for that weapon I will have to pull but I will be given a minimum of five weeks notice to save my tickets and gems to pull on it and it will be the only item at that rarity on it’s banner so they can't skewer the numbers against me. 

5. They have trained me that I must have the newest unit to succeed and that sometimes requires dropping cash so I WILL. 

The general level of content is always tweaked to match the power creep forcing you to want to whale in order to guarantee you can do it. Also the art and designs are always top notch and I have a weakness for pretty things.

After the Dimitri and Summer Wolt debacles I swore off not spending money on FEH but all the fuckery with Legendary Leif and how over powered he was, plus how pretty he was got me to spend a small amount anyhow. 

If I stay around for the story they will eventually make Nils or a new Lukas alt or a Dimitri alt and given how fucking fucky they are being now in an attempt to exploit money from the audience I will give in. With the number of orbs that disappearing from things like the monthly missions every action they take says they are out to exploit every last penny from you and they give no fucks about how crude and absolute they have to be. 

Things in term of exploiting funds have been becoming more transparent and aggressive as this year has gone on so there is no reason to doubt that these trends will continue to snowball and they can’t get me, and I can’t get mad at how little shame they have doing what they are if I don’t play.

Kill la Kill at Sakura-Con 2019

It’s been a few days since Sakura-Con 2019 ended, but I’m back home now—and well rested enough to finally write in detail about my experience there!

The con featured a playable demo of Kill la Kill the Game: IF, and David Vincent (Senketsu) was present as well. I was able to spend quite a bit of time with the game over the weekend, and I also attended one of Vincent’s panels, “BlazBlue/Kill la Kill Voices with David Vincent,” which he hosted on Saturday, April 20th. While the panel revealed very little about the upcoming video game, there were quite a few fun tidbits shared about the Kill la Kill anime and voice acting industry.

Since I played the game first, let me start there!

Kill la Kill the Game: IF

The Kill la Kill the Game: IF demo was available to all attendees of Sakura-Con from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday, but unfortunately, there was very little publicity regarding its appearance at the convention. Sakura-Con itself never advertised the demo; shockingly, Arc System Works is even absent from the Exhibitors list in the official Sakura-Con paper guidebook.

Even someone like me—who has heavily followed any and all news on the game since its announcement and devoted dozens of hours to reporting on it—only discovered a few mere days before the con that I would be able to play!

So, maybe it’s no surprise that I heard, many times over the weekend, some variation of, “I didn’t know there was a Kill la Kill fighting game!” And maybe it’s even less of a surprise that there was practically no line to try the game out while it was available at the Sakura-Con Exhibitors Hall—heck, sometimes, there wasn’t a line at all.

While the small crowd allowed me to easily play numerous matches—the only characters I have yet to try are Houka Inumuta and Ragyo Kiryuin, and I played Ryuko Matoi and Satsuki Kiryuin several times each—I was also sad to see the game not receive the attention it deserves.

As for the game itself, do note that this account is coming from someone who is not a gamer and who’s legitimately struggling to think of any other fighting games besides the Super Smash Bros. and Tekken series that she’s played. (But, y’know, actually, Tekken was my jam back in the day. Anyone else remember playing Devil or Angel in Tekken 2 and just holding down like circle, triangle, and square to shoot lasers outta your eyes and take out practically all of the opponent’s HP bar? Just me?)

So, needless to say, anime fighters are totally new ground for me. I don’t have the background to discuss how Kill la Kill the Game: IF stacks up to similar titles, nor do I have the expertise to talk any technical details, and I won’t pretend that I do. But I will say this: as someone who was already planning on buying the game 2-3 times purely for the story and who had extremely minimal interest in the actual gameplay, I enjoyed playing way more than I thought I would. The combos were flashy and fun, I loved the supers and special attacks, and the whole experience honestly brought me back to the good times I had playing Tekken as a kid. Sitting at the Arc System Works booth, I thought, “Wow, this is fun!”

Regarding the particular demo available at the booth, a few elements stand out to me:

✄ First, the build was not titled in the same way that other builds have been. Whereas the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) 2018 build was titled “EVO2018 Demo Version,” the Anime NYC build was titled “AnimeNYC 2018 Demo Version,” and the EVO Japan 2019 build was titled “EVO Japan 2019,” for example, the Sakura-Con build was simply titled “Demo Version.”

✄ It was previously revealed in ArcLive episode 46 that there will be an online demo of Kill la Kill the Game: IF. It’s likely that the Sakura-Con demo, literally titled “Demo Version,” will be this online demo.

✄ The Sakura-Con demo did not include all of the stages that have been seen in other builds. For instance, the Fiber Castle that was first playable in the Game Developers Conference (GDC) build last month was not present in the Sakura-Con demo.

✄ The Sakura-Con demo did include all of the characters that have been seen in other builds. Ryuko Matoi, Satsuki Kiryuin, Uzu Sanageyama, Ira Gamagoori, Houka Inumuta, Nonon Jakuzure, Ragyo Kiryuin, Nui Harime, and the dual-wielding variations of Ryuko and Satsuki were all available to play (though, printed-out character guides only seemed to be available for Ryuko and Satsuki). This is perhaps interesting because the PQubeGames stream from last week did not have Ragyo, Nui, or the dual-wielding variations of Ryuko and Satsuki available to play.

✄ But speaking of the PQubeGames stream, the build there did offer alternate color options from the character select menu. The colors were “Basic Color,” “ARC Collab Color,” and “Alternate Color.” The Sakura-Con demo, in contrast, did not offer alternate color options from the character select menu. 

✄ At Sakura-Con, the only way to see alternate colors was for both players to choose the same fighter. All alternate colors in the Sakura-Con demo were presumably based off of the evil clone colors from the Kill la Kill episode 25 OVA: characters are grayed out with green eyes and blonde hair. The PQubeGames stream includes a match that features the evil clone colors for Ira, and Alpharad’s GDC video includes a match that features the evil clone colors for Satsuki. 

✄ And, though I do not have any screenshots, I purposely played double-character matches against the computer when there was no line at Sakura-Con just to see the alternate colors. I was able to try Ryuko against Ryuko and Nui against Nui, and they too had the evil clone coloration for their alternate colors. Ryuko is grayed out with blonde hair and green eyes (which Senketsu shares as well), though her red streaks remain intact. Nui is also grayed out with a green eye and a dark pink eyepatch. 

✄ Interestingly, the evil clone colors were not the alternate colors that were originally shown for Ryuko and Satsuki. At EVO 2018 last year, the alternate color for Satsuki was not grayed out and did not have green eyes. The alternate color for Ryuko featured orange hair and a white Senketsu. It was stated in ArcLive episode 46 that there will be more than two color options per character, so perhaps these colors for Ryuko and Satsuki will make a return in the final version of the game.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Seven Net Shopping is offering Junketsu-colored costumes for the cast as a pre-order bonus, and these costumes could possibly be purchasable later.

✄ There were minor changes to the translation in the Sakura-Con demo. For one example, Senketsu’s “Don’t make me dizzy,” which was the localization as of the GDC build last month, became “You’re making me dizzy.” I also might have been too overwhelmed to pay the most attention to this detail, but I can’t say I recall any mention of “Snippity-Snips.”

✄ It might be another case of being too overwhelmed to pay the most attention to this detail, but I also can’t recall any of the big red “Counter Hit”s and “Guard Break”s that have been in every build thus far in the Sakura-Con demo.

✄ After completing a match, the game simply said, “Thank you!” In the past, such as at Anime NYC last year, there would be a request to complete a survey and share your thoughts. The game may be too far in production now to really incorporate feedback.

For some other general notes on the game and my experience playing it:

✄ Every character has an Instant Kill attack that’s accompanied by an elaborate cutscene (and you can see all Instant Kills that have been featured in gameplay videos in this extensive document). I never managed to score an Instant Kill myself (because I failed at the rock-paper-scissors-styled Bloody Valor like literally every time and definitely got Insta-Killed for it!), but while watching others play, I caught glimpses of the Instant Kills for Uzu and Nui, neither of which I’ve seen in any released gameplay footage thus far. 

Uzu’s Instant Kill involves a lot of “Men! Dou! Kote!”-ing, and Nui’s Instant Kill is rather haunting. The pupil of her one eye shrinks, and she slashes her opponent in a way that’s reminiscent of how she murders Isshin Matoi. When she’s finished, she sticks out her tongue.

✄ I enjoyed playing Ryuko and Satsuki (both versions) the most, and this is probably only partly because they’re my favorite characters on the roster. Both Ryuko and Satsuki are speedy fighters with some really fun, flashy combos and specials. I tend to value speed over power when it comes to gaming, so these two fit my preferences nicely.

✄ Ira was by far my least favorite character to play (sorry, Gama! I still love you!) He’s simply far too slow for my liking. But surprisingly, I enjoyed playing as Nonon more than I thought I would. I like my battles up close and personal, but zoning as Nonon wasn’t really that unappealing at all.

✄ I played against the computer for the double matches, and it was set very easy. I won without breaking a sweat, and I lost to plenty of folks at the con.

✄ And, of course, I love the dialogue. The banter really makes this game 100 times more enjoyable. 

Well, for me, at least. 

I can’t tell anyone else how to play the game, but it definitely hurt a little when folks I played with skipped the cutscenes.

✄ I saw so many lines I hadn’t seen translated before, and I wish I had the memory to recall all of them. But perhaps some of the most amusing lines came from the double-character matches. 

Nui notes that it’s annoying that her copy looks like her, but she haaaates even more that her copy sounds like her. Ryuko, meanwhile, gets very caught up in calling out her copy as a fake, but Senketsu tries to be all analytical about it. He wonders if it’s the Life Fibers that created the clone and tells Ryuko, “Stay calm... there may be more of them.” Ryuko answers, “Fight now, think later!” When you win, Senketsu will say, “We won, but I have so many questions” or wonder about where “she” came from. It was way too loud in the Exhibitors Hall to make out the Japanese here, but I wonder if Senketsu does in fact specify that he’s referring just to the copied Ryuko and is less concerned about the copy of himself, pfff.

Other dialogue things:

✄ Uzu calls Nui “a beast.”

✄ Ryuko essentially pulls a, “You killed my father, prepare to die!” right before fighting Nui, and it is amazing.

✄ Ryuko tells Ragyo, “You’re just like your kid.”

✄ Ryuko’s “ass wipe” comment is included in the PQubeGames stream, but, okay. It’s great. It definitely got some reactions at the con! 

Especially because she was directing it at herself in that case....

tl;dr?

✄ Me, a non-gamer just about 100% interested in this thing for the story, really enjoyed playing the game!

✄ Which sadly did not receive much attention from Sakura-Con.

✄ But it’s a fun game with fun dialogue, and while the Sakura-Con demo didn’t have everything I’ve seen in other builds (such as some stages and the option to use alternate colors), all currently released characters were playable. It seems likely that Sakura-Con’s demo’ll end up being the online demo of the game, and I’d be thrilled to play this build again!

BlazBlue/Kill la Kill Voices with David Vincent

Saturday’s panel was largely an open Q&A session with David Vincent with some voice acting from the crowd in the latter half. Some Kill la Kill-related questions and answers are as follows:

✄ Someone (not me, I swear!) noted that Ryuko and Senketsu have a very close bond in the series and asked if David Vincent (Senketsu) ever recorded with Erica Mendez (Ryuko) in the booth. The answer was no. It’s too difficult to match lip flaps with more than one person in the booth, so in anime dubbing, everyone records alone.

✄ One question asked about the auditioning process for Senketsu. Vincent noted that he wasn’t sure how to voice a jacket, but he understood more as he watched the series. He described the typical auditioning process for voice acting roles, saying that an actor is called in to read for the character and, if they do well, they’ll receive a callback to read for the character again. With every callback, the pool of actors becomes smaller and smaller until one actor finally wins the role. Interestingly, Vincent said that he had to record the first episode of Kill la Kill again because he was told to change the voice he was using. Later in the panel, he further revealed that he had to say the “Sen-i-Soshitsu!” line at the end of the first episode about 25 times because producer Hiroe Tsukamoto was very strict about the pronunciation; for example, she told him the correct way to pronounce “Osaka.”

✄ When asked if Vincent tries to base his performance on the Japanese VAs, he said no. Vincent likes to bring his own take on a character.

✄ In regards to ad-libbing, Vincent said that he often isn’t allowed to. For instance, at the end of Senketsu’s speedy recap for episode 16, he ad-libbed Senketsu taking a deep breath... but this was cut.

✄ Someone spoiled the ending for Kill la Kill and asked how Vincent felt about Senketsu getting “dusted.” Vincent answered that Kill la Kill is a wild, ludicrous show, but Senketsu’s death is quite poignant. The final episode was shown at Sakura-Con 2014, at another panel that Vincent was present for, and he said many people came up to him afterwards and expressed how saddened they were by Senketsu’s passing.

✄ Regarding Senketsu’s death, there was a question asking if Senketsu is “really” dead in the episode 25 OVA. Vincent said that Senketsu is “comic book dead” and coming back.

Can I foolishly hope this means that there’s a “Senketsu Lives” ending in the upcoming video game?

✄ Concerning the game, Vincent said that he had signed contracts and couldn’t say a thing about it... except that he just finished recording, and it’s good.

Given that Kill la Kill the Game: IF releases in North America and Europe on July 26th, it’s likely that we’ll hear a bit more of the English dub—and Vincent reprising his role as Senketsu again—before too long.

Stories?

OH CRAP I totally forgot, I’m so sorry about that. AUGH, now I feel bad. I’m so sorry.

Anyway, stories. Hm... I mean, I haven’t actually been DMing long, and am pretty young so my stories probably aren’t the best, just FYI. So lets see... I guess ill start with this one. So, I tend to throw in some sort of immersion-breaking thing if I feel if the players can use a tiny break from the campaign, and the main way I do this is by putting, well, myself (ish) just showing up. I used him during my first campaign, called Army of the Damned set into Innistrad (Very fun Adventure made by... uh... SpiketailDrake on Reddit i think) to make sure they found the basement of the end bosses house. He (I from now on) is a homebrew Cyborg with three “forms”, ish, bolstered by the fact that I used Mystic for each of the forms, and I had a couple of magic Items on me. I am sometimes just a recurring guy collecting very powerful, or destroyed too powerful, magic items and they groan whenever I throw myself in. C’mon guys. Anyway, they were going about in this dungeon, which was actually quite small, and got to the area that I would use to get them to the Magic Item. The Item was undefended, but it wouldn’t be for long as while I was doing the ritual to destroy the item, it would summon monsters to defend itself. I had a table and everything set up with monsters way above their level (Characters were LVL 5, with me being somewhere around LVL 14 I believe). And I ended up rolling pretty low for most, except for the first and the last roll: the first roll I got a Shadow Dragon Wyrmling, though for which base color I don’t remember. They managed to barely get through that one, and to help them out I had my character use a form to heal most of them a decent chunk so that they can get through the fight. The last one was a T-rex. Now, thing is, this T-rex spawned in a area where only one person could get to before it could tear into my character, and that person, a ranger, decided to not do that. Understandably. and so this dino ran up and attacked Me, while doing the ritual. Concentration check barely passed for the first attack, but i wasn’t going to be well if this continued, but if i could survive and finish the ritual the item would be destroyed by the start of my next turn, which conveniently was right after Mr. T-Rex. Second attack was a bite, and this one brings be down to 50 something HP I think, and I easily pass this check. (I had not read the “both attacks cant be against the same target” clause on T-Rex, gimme a break). Anyway, my turn shows up, I destroy the Item, and I use my third form to attack this T-Rex. This form has, something like 3 attacks I think, (I cant find the Char sheet) and I manged to crit on two of them. As such, with all the Mystic stuff that nets be bonus dice on attack with Psi points, I was rolling a lot of dice that I decided that the Rex was just dead. So I showed the power of Me to the rest of the power through this luck, and they rightfully feared me for the rest of the night. Now another reason why they feared me was because in this form I have the mindset of “Kill everything.” Now, who else is in the room with me? The Party. And only the Party. No one died as they entered rooms that after the door closed wouldn’t open again until they did something, but it was a fun “GOTTA GO” moment. I haven’t used him now as he was tailored to a MTG cosmos while the rest of what I have been doing has not been a part of that. 

A second story is One of my players reminded me about. So, this was my second campaign so i’m still using pre-made adventures by people online, and I forget exactly what the adventure was called but it left the party stranded on an almost deserted island in Ixalan. (new characters). There was supposed to be a native population but they were almost all killed and the last few huddled up in a semi-fortified area, speaking of something that comes during the night and slaughters anyone outside. After learning some information the party made a reasonable guess that it was the local dude who holed up in a tower on the island and never talked to the locals. So, this miniboss knocks them out instead of killing them (its like a massive undead centipede) and takes them to the Necromancer at the 6-8th floor (i don’t remember which) essentially letting the party skip the entire tower. Fun, and slightly annoying for me because I quite liked that tower. I wont say why it did that and not kill  as that’s something a part of the Adventure.  Oh during a test run of Auriga for a group that ended up falling through, I needed to destroy the boat that the party was on. I decided to use a Dragon Turtle to make sure that happened. (Party lvl 1, BTW) and this DT quite easily destroyed the boat but before it finished, the Rogue had attacked it. He had rolled a one. and I use a little table for fumbles and crits, and he rolled one that said “Hit self, normal damage.” So he dealt damage to himself. Enough damage to himself to knock him out. At realizing that, the entire party busted out laughing as this guy is staring, mouth agape, at the die. Its been burned into my mind as a funny experience. Again, not exactly great stories but I haven’t really had one that was super cool for the players or something that I would consider unforgettable.
