"a dude in Texas legally changed his name to "Literally Anyone Else" and he's attempting to run for President against Biden & Trump" [source]
okay, but putting aside the comedic aspect of this, it is concerning the amount of people who are prompted to vote for candidates just because it's funny. I'm not the biggest fan of how his policy about the boarder sounds [Site], but I do implore anyone who is able to vote in the 2024 US election to please research other candidates.
The media is only going to continue pushing the idea it's inevitably going to be Trump vs Biden 2.0 and we have no other options, that we have to vote for Biden again because of Project 2025. Is that whole thing terrifying?
Yeah, fucking absolutely.
But voting for Biden will not solidify our safety from that. Biden is exactly like the rest of them. He always has been. You can't make the lesser of two evils argument when they're both just plain evil.
You cannot say that Biden is even mildly a better choice than Trump when he is currently directly involved in a genocide. That is not some little fucking thing. That in and of itself disqualifies him as a lesser evil. Biden is just as bad as him and he will not save us because he doesn't fucking care.
Cornel West [Site] is an Independent candidate running for President in the 2024 Election. [Policies]
Claudia De la Cruz and Karina Garcia [Site] are running for President and Vice-President as the candidates of the Party for Socialism and Liberation in the 2024 Election. [Policies]
There are options.
There are people trying to change the corrupt foundation our system is built on, but we have to help amplify them because the mainstream media will not.
#have you looked at what's happening in New York & the subways#There's so many reported shootings and deaths and it just seems to be getting worse.#I just looked up subway shooting ny because I wanted to check before saying something#There's reports from like 3 hours ago about someone getting pushed in front of one of the moving subways & there's so many others#or how about the like thousands of police officers that they've got stationed at subways in ny literally doing fuck all#or how everyone's going through a housing crisis and cant afford rent and cant get medical care because it can cost#$4000 to get a fucking ambulance and that's cheap. That's a ride to the hospital less than 20 minutes away probably.#or the rise in hate crimes and bigotry and all the shit they're now trying to censor with the kosa bill#or how terrifying places like Florida have became for anyone thats not seen as an equel by people who dont view most others as equels.#or how they're pouring billions into wars while we're in the midsts of a homeless crisis#suicide rates are at record levels in the us and it's only going to get worse. theyre pulling telehealth which will take away#life saving medical care for people who dont have the ability to go in person. people's ability to get therapy and meds being taken away#Is going to kill people. or how the Biden administration has fucked up their Covid response so goddamn badly#people are referring to the pandemic in past tense and have lost understanding for others who they'd have understood before#they've lied and they've concealed and its killing millions of people and disabling even more. but they will not take accountability.#long covid is ruining people's lives and they've successfully led the narrative that its not real or not that serious.#they will sit there and they will lie. they will say they've protected women's rights and that its a top priority.#they'll say that healthcare is a top priority but have suggested that they'd veto a healthcare for all bill because of its price tag#but will spend billions and billions and billions on a genocide that the majority is against. the system isn't going to begin collapsing#it already is.#its crumbled and we must demolish the corrupt remains and rebuild a better government that gives a shit about people#ALL people.#they use basic human rights as bargaining chips.#the Democrats and Republicans on a Venn diagram is a circle. wake up.

i love our metro btw it means i never feel claustrophobic because the space is so big. it generally feels clean enough. they do cool designs for the trains during events like pride and the cherry blossom festival. also while im nostalgic for the smell for others who arent theyve described it as neutral which is way better than other subways ive experienced that smell like piss and chemicals
I love a good nostalgic smell

The importance of Donnie's location in the trailer
Call me a nerd, but when it comes to location, I go all Matpat and begin to do a research. I like to use location and some canon aspects with my fictional story, for the sake of world building.
I have a feeling Donnie is the first or second character they will focus on because hes the one in the background after the trailer ends. Also, the idw comic ended with him in a way, so it's a beautiful way to start this series
So, the location of Donnie on that train is super important for his character arc. Where is Donnie? Let's look at the picture and analyze it.
Tumblr media
We see that inside of the underground train station, the architectural design is square shape and a bit narrow. The train stations choice of light bulbs is the linear fluorescent light bulb or, simply put, the lamp type. After some digging I found out that The New York City Subway is a rapid transit system that serves four of the five boroughs of New York City, namely : the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens
At first, I thought it was Nenvins St Brooklyn. Because there, Thearthe Shakespear was nearby. Mikey would love it there. But it didn't fit the picture at all. I hear you thinking, but what about the graffiti?
So I did a bit more digging for specifically train stations that had or still have graffiti art on the wall, and I found this
Tumblr media
This is the Sutphin Subway entrance.
Tumblr media
It's possible that Donnie is at Sutphin Boulevard station (IND Queens Boulevard Line) instead of Nenvin.
New York City Subway station in Queens The Sutphin Boulevard station is a local station on the IND Queens Boulevard Line of the New York City Subway. Why does this matter?
Take a look at the Google maps. We'll well well, what do we have here?
Tumblr media
BINGO! A museum of science. It's also right next to the Zoo! We all know what happened to the Zoo animals in the movie, when Suplafly mutated. It may not be the same Zoo, but it's an interesting detail!
I live in Holland, so I am new to the train stations in NY, but I'm positive that the reason Donnie is on that train is related to the science museum. Donnie is smart and usually is the one that comes up with plans, and once he's at the science museum, he will discover his love for science and slowly become the tech genius we know and love
An honorable mention is the subway station, Washington Hights in Manhatten. This is the deepest and the most dangerous subway station tunnel. It's filled with amazing graffiti art, and I can only imagine the amazing fight scenes that could take place here.
All in all, it's just a shot in the dark because it's a theory, and I could be wrong.

I've been rereading the Percy Jackson series(again) and I noticed something that just bugged me so much about it.
For someone who's a local New Yorker, Percy constantly takes the taxi rather than the MTA. In fact, the subway system nor the busses are mentioned ever(except for the LIRR in the first book). New York has such a well established subway system, especially in Manhattan where he lives.
As someone who lived in NY almost all my life, we don't use taxis, even in modern time where we have ubers and lyfts. ALSOOO Percy and his fam were poor and now middle class. It doesn't make sense that he was so used to using taxis.
Rick, where is my NYC public transportation representation?!?!
IS RICK RIORDAN BOUGHT BY BIG CAR?!?!
I DEMAND ANSWERS!

[ID: A digital drawing of four personifications of different U.S. cities, carrying trains from their respective metro systems like pets. They are all feminine-presenting and drawn against a textured gray background. NYC is a person with light brown skin, dark brown hair with pink streaks in two low ponytails, and pink eyes, wearing a red jacket with pink sleeves over a shirt, pants, and shoes. Philly is a person with dark brown skin, a loose orange afro, and orange eyes, wearing a dark green jacket over a bright blue shirt, dark blue pants, and boots. Boston is a person with light skin, short straight reddish-brown hair, and dark blue eyes, wearing a gray hoodie, blue faded jeans, shoes, and a green beanie. They have a knee brace on one leg. Chicago is a person with dark brown skin and long, straight, dark red hair that fades into gray and seems to dissolve into smoke at the ends, wearing a black shirt.
NYC stands calmly holding their phone with a NY subway train next to their feet. The train is drawn like a creature, with its front windows squinted like angry eyes and an open mouth, displaying pointy teeth. It appears to be growling angrily. Philly is flinching away, holding a frightened looking SEPTA train protectively. Philly, alarmed and angry, yells "Get your dog, bitch!" NYC, looking bored, replies "It don't bite." Philly, speech bubble spiky with outrage, yells "Yes it do!!"
Boston stands holding a Dunkin' cup with one hand and pointing at an MBTA train (Green Line) with the other, glaring at it and saying "Bad transit system." The train hisses, unrepentant.
Chicago is happily scratching an L (elevated) train under the chin, saying "Good transit system!" Good is underlined for emphasis. End ID.]
got the idea to draw this while on the SEPTA train back from winter break, finally finished it today. was wobbling on posting it, but then amtrak started posting about city shipping and i figured it was a Sign, so
anyway. if cities were girls transit systems would be their little pet bastard creatures. you agree. reblog

If you're up for it, I would love to hear ny/ma rambles. Like, just go absolutely bonkers
hehe youre enabling me jkhsdfa
this post got really long so uh its gonna be all under the cut teehee
honestly i think that theyre the typa couple that acts divorced but they have a super healthy relationship they just like to goof around and know each others boundaries
they both know what triggers the other and stays away from those type of things. they can be soft and will do it mostly in private bc they have a reputation to uphold but when the situation calls for it they wont hesitate to be comforting and soft out in the open.
also because mass was raising maine, when mass made like a good decision and said no to something maine would run and complain to york and york would saunter in all like hey the kid can have another cookie before bed! and mass is like bro PLEASE he will be off the walls i wont get any sleep please and york gives it to him anyways and then mass leaves him to suffer the consequences of his own actions hehehe.
i also think that since both the mta and mbta have their issues they will argue over which one is worse not better. and it will usually end in mass winning bc the mbta is the oldest subway system in the country and so a LOT of it still hasn't been updated bc of the constraints of the layout of the cities and towns. and york accepts defeat but basically goes "ok lets get you to bed grandpa" akljsdfhas
OH ALSO both mass and ny are very pigeon populated so id like to think they send messages with pigeons for fun :3 they can text but its nice to send a letter by pigeon once in a while, and it can also lead to some silly shenanigans.
mass once took york on the swan boats during the spring and then after that they walked through all the flowers and sat on the grass under a willow tree next to the water listening to the musicians and watching the painters and york nearly bawled bc it was so peaceful and beautiful.
similarly for new years york takes him right into times square for the ball drop and they get front row seats and have so much fun and share a kiss as the ball drops and every year they save the glasses and confetti as a souvenir.
id also like to think that york is a skier and mass snowboards. so they go together and do runs together in the winter. they go nightskiing/boarding as well which is always so much fun, doing tricks and flips in the dark illuminated by the spotlights. and then after they go to the lounge and drink cocoa and have waffles (for some reason waffles have been served at every ski mountain I've been too in new england)
they both have some of the best ballet companies as well. so they both dance very well. no this is not me self indulging as a person who did ballet since i was five what are you talking about. they both will attend each others nutcrackers every wintertime and they love dancing with each other. they will put on the soundtrack in their homes and dance out each scene together (i do this also bc i am deranged and mentally ill and i love the nutcracker <333)(its a good workout)
both the states excel in a lot of things so they love to do those things together ig is the gist of all that aksljdfhas
oh yeah and they both LOVE hugs, big ol squeezes. and they can just stand there for a long time. in comfortable silence. <3
i think thats all the ideas i have for now but there will always be more hehe

Remember when we were all told to “Mask up”? Well perhaps it’s time for us to change that rule. How about: “Mask off.”
It still astonishes me how many New Yorkers still scuttle around this city with their N95s clasped to their faces. Assistants in shops. Straphangers on the subway. Even people hurrying through the windy streets.
With some people I get it. A few have underlying health conditions — like morbid obesity. Or different-bodyness. Or whatever it is we’re allowed to call what we used to term “overweight.”
And sure some elderly folks now on their 9th boosters have decided to treat COVID as they once did the winter flu season.
But how to explain all the young people — particularly the young protestors — who seem to be so unnaturally scared of COVID?
How to explain all those rage-filled keffiyeh-wearing students who just happen to mask up whenever a camera is around?
Perhaps the students at Columbia and other campuses really do have a mortal fear of COVID.
In which case let me set their minds at rest.
New York State no longer has a COVID-19 problem. At the height of COVID, in the week ending April 11, 2020 the CDC reported that there were 6,900 total NY State COVID deaths that week. By last month the total was down to 15 deaths in a week.
What is more, young people are at the lowest risk of dying from COVID. Last year COVID was the eighth leading cause of death for young people in the United States.
According to the official data people aged 18-29 comprised just 0.7% of COVID-related deaths in the US. And that is from a group that makes up 16.4% of the total US population.
College-age Americans are more likely to die by homicide, suicide or being hit by a bus than they are through complications caused by COVID.
Even better news for the mask-wearers — NY State is one of the most vaccinated populations in the world. Fully 81% of NY State’s population is fully vaccinated. While a full 95% of the state’s population has gotten one dose of the vaccine or more.
So rejoice, oh brave protestors. The masks can come off!
And yet, with something like inevitability, there is one thing you can predict about protestors in New York today.
Which is that anytime that they are protesting they will be strangely scared of COVID. At the height of the BLM protests in 2020 you might say that there was some excuse for this.
There’s nothing like a fear of COVID to keep you cautious as you smash up a store.
Indeed I am sure that it was always perfectly natural that people swiping a set of sneakers for social justice would at the same time mask up to protect their respiratory system.
But why is that in 2024 today’s brave protestors in New York are nearly always wearing a mask?
Why should it be that the students making their demands for ceasefires in the Middle East and humanitarian aid at home have to holler their demands through a piece of cloth?
What is it about the outside trouble-makers who come onto this city’s campuses that makes them at one and the same time brave enough to cause disruption to students and citizens and yet terrible hypochondriacs over COVID?
Well I would like to suggest a reason. And it has nothing to do with CDC data, vaccination rates, COVID or anything similar.
The reason is that they are bullies. And like all bullies they are at the same time terrible cowards.
Despite pretending that they are world-beating revolutionaries the protestors who now push people in this city around are trying to keep their identities hidden.
Perhaps it is because they are professional agitators — drafted in by a range of left-wing “grass-roots” organizations to cause trouble. That is certainly what many people — including the police — believe.
Perhaps these people want to cover their faces because the media in this country might just notice that the same professional revolutionaries tend to turn up wherever there is trouble, almost as if they are paid to do so.
Presumably they want to keep their identities hidden as much as possible.
But what about the students at Columbia and elsewhere who want to sit in their tents and “bravely” protest about something they don’t know anything about?
Maybe, just maybe, they too are not actually afraid of COVID. What they are afraid of are the opinions they are espousing.
Because they know, at some level, that bullying other students and shrieking about things they don’t know about is not a good look. They want to intimidate people, but they never want to be intimidated themselves.
So I have a suggestion. At all future protests in New York State let’s have a masks off policy.
The KKK was the last organization in America that was so proud of their beliefs that their members covered their faces during protests.
Now “Students for Jihad” are doing the same job. For strangely similar reasons.
So let’s demand they take the hoods off too.
Sorry — I meant masks.
Shame of a canceled commencement
Talking of Columbia, yesterday morning I was invited to give an “alternative” Commencement address to students who have completed their studies.
Since the leadership at Columbia had canceled their official graduation ceremony, a number of faculty and student leaders arranged an alternative event for students and their families.
Attendees at the event in the city included students who had served in the US military, Jewish students, Christian students and conservative students. All from a bewildering variety of backgrounds.
We also heard from one of the students who had protected their campus when student radicals were trying to trash it earlier this year.
It was a great honor to speak with them all. And a great pleasure to give them a few words of advice as they set off on what I’m sure will be great and adventurous careers.
But what an indictment that students at Columbia who can actually think have to organize a graduation for themselves.
==
These privileged, entitled students at elite Ivy League colleges being paid for by their daddy want to agitate and roleplay as revolutionaries today, without negatively impacting their ability to work for a Fortune 500 company or get into a prestigious law firm tomorrow. They're fucking hypocrites.
You saw them as they were being arrested and their masks removed - many of them resisted and tried to hide their faces.

Hello NY! Thank you for all your posts about NY. One question though. Do you have pictures and info about the history of the NY subway? Thank you in advance :)
Hi Anon,
I have many photos of the subway from 1920 to 1959, but I chose them randomly for their interest value. If it's the history of the subway system you want, there are a number of sites and pages on sites that offer information and pictures, such as NYCSubway.org, this Business Insider page, this one on Responsible New York, and this one on the Smithsonian site. There are also books, such as this one (only $4 for the Kindle version). Do you have access to a good library or library system? That would probably be your best bet.
Good luck with your research!

I testified Thursday against the City Council Fair Chance for Housing Act, my second time in Council Chambers. The first was in May 2019 when I spoke personally and passionately about protecting New York City’s specialized high schools.
The bill, also known as Int. 632, is another City Council measure designed to protect lawbreakers at the expense of the law-abiding. It would prohibit criminal background checks on prospective tenants and buyers of residential housing.
After testifying, I left City Hall. It wasn’t until hours later that I heard the racist response to my testimony from Douglas Powell, who spoke on behalf of city-funded nonprofit Vocal-NY. He and his organization want individuals such as Powell, who has a criminal record and is a level 2 registered sex offender, to be able to access housing without criminal background checks.
His testimony laid out his criminal-justice experience and his lived experience of anti-black discrimination at Asian stores — culminating in a racist attack on the Asian community where he lives. In his three-minute tirade, he called Queens’ Rego Park the most racist neighborhood because it is majority Asian. “It’s not their neighborhood — they from China, Hong Kong,” he said. “We from New York.”
Convicted sex offender spews anti-Asian slurs during NYC Council meeting — and pols do nothing to stop him
This anti-Asian, perpetual-foreigner, “You don’t belong here” rhetoric is dangerous hate speech that incites violence. Unprovoked attacks on Asian New Yorkers are on the rise.
Powell’s racist rant was delivered in the presence of three councilmembers without interruption or admonishment. Committee chair Nantasha Williams even thanked Powell for his testimony. It’s as if his anti-Asian hate speech in the chamber was unremarkable white noise. It took hours, after online pressure from constituents, for those present to issue generic disapproval statements, retweeting other electeds’ condemnation, and say “both sides” share blame for systemic racism.
Like many Asian Americans, I am a property owner and small landlord. When I graduated, my parents encouraged me to live at home, pay off my debt and save to buy a property. I lived at home for a few years and paid off my student loans as quickly as I could. Decades later, I bought my first investment property. I rented mostly to young men and women at the start of their careers. As a landlord, I treated my tenants the way I wanted to be treated: fairly and responsively. I’m fortunate real-estate brokers and condo management could conduct criminal and credit checks, not only for my benefit but for the safety of neighbors in the building.
Powell spewed hateful, anti-Asian rhetoric at the council meeting.Stephen Yang
Asian Americans have the highest rate of home ownership in the city, 42%. The stability of owning property as a means of building wealth is deeply rooted in Asian culture. New York’s pro-tenant policies, especially the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, have resulted in heartbreaking stories from small-property landlords. The laws, intended to help tenants, some of whom lost jobs during COVID, disproportionately hurt immigrant landlords. Not only have they not been paid rent for three years; some living in multi-family units are terrorized by tenants who know they can’t evict. Many Asian property owners are working class, and their modest rental income helps pay for the mortgage, property taxes and unit upkeep.
While bad tenants existed before this bill, it would make things worse. Private-property owners should not bear the burden of unknowingly renting to convicted arsonists and murderers and letting them live next door to New Yorkers who want a safe place after a long day braving our unpredictable city streets and subways. We worry about higher insurance, liability in endangering other tenants and frivolous lawsuits in tenant-friendly courts. That becomes a cost-benefit question for owners — whether it’s worth it to rent with little profit.
Like most landlords, I don’t live in the building I rent, but I do worry about the tenants I rent to. I think of the kindhearted young Asian professional who pleaded with me to let her have a Hurricane Sandy rescue dog. I worry about the wheelchair-bound young man grateful to find independence in living in an accessible building and appreciative of me letting him install an automatic door opener for his convenience. I want them to have the peace of mind that when they return to their small haven in the city, they will be safe, among neighbors who won’t pose a risk to them.
The fight to save specialized high schools that brought me to council the first time galvanized many Asian voters who had never been involved in city politics before. I am one of those newly politicized voters. This year, I co-founded Asian Wave Alliance to make sure that Asian-American New Yorkers’ needs are not ignored by the very councilmembers who sat quietly and listened to Powell’s racist attacks.
This time, I went to council to convince the Committee on Human and Civil Rights and the bill’s sponsors that the Fair Chance for Housing Act is not “fair” at all to small landlords and already-existing tenants. Getting rid of reasonable safeguards like criminal background checks is not “fair” to the city’s law-abiding citizens and will put people in danger. True fairness requires listening to all New Yorkers and prioritizing safety and transparency.

//BLUF: SURVIVING CREW OF MERCHANT VESSEL RESCUED IN GULF OF ADEN. NYC DEPLOYS SOLDIERS, POLICE TO SUBWAY AMID HIGH CRIME.//
-----BEGIN TEARLINE-----
-International Events-
Red Sea/HOA: The Indian Navy rescued the surviving crew of the M/V TRUE CONFIDENCE following the successful Houthi missile strike yesterday. Three crew members were killed in the attack, with four others wounded. Three crew members are in critical condition due to severe burns. AC: These are the first fatalities reported onboard a civilian vessel as a result of Houthi strikes during the Red Sea Crisis.
-HomeFront-
NY: Substantial efforts are underway in New York City to allegedly reduce rampant crime. Approximately 750 armed National Guard soldiers have been deployed at strategic sites around the city, mostly to patrol and man checkpoints within the subway system. NYPD forces have also deployed security checkpoints to search the personal bags of subway travelers. AC: It is important to note that authorities have stated this deployment is not specifically for counterterrorism efforts or concerns, but rather to address the increase in standard street crime.
-----END TEARLINE-----
Analyst Comments: Though it is obvious almost to the point of not being worthy of mention, the efforts undertaken to have soldiers “police” high-crime areas in NYC are likely not intended to reduce crime, though having armed soldiers everywhere will certainly achieve this result. When examining the desires of political leadership, it is important to remember that New York has highly incentivized crime by a plethora of means; refusing to arrest criminals in the first place, refusal to charge suspects once arrested, reducing punishments for convicted criminals, and granting no-cash bail for repeat offenders. None of these laws and/or policies have changed, which suggests the heavy-handed response to crime is reactive, and likely not entirely intended to reduce crime. It is likely that this move is to both save face (and appear to do something without actually changing the laws that are the problem), and normalize the use of armed soldiers for domestic policing tasks, up to and including manning checkpoints and searching private citizens. As the election season ramps up, the normalization of militarization will be absolutely crucial.
Analyst: S2A1

After 5 days in NYC I can now confirm that the people who complain about the NY subway system are weak
People make it sound like some sort of eldritch maze run by moon people on a nonsense schedule and like...
It's literally not that! It's just a solid 4/10 metro system. Yes the signage are written for moon people with encyclopedic knowledge of new york slang and geography; yes the trains sound like forks in a food processor; and yes the stations are all the size of dinner plates, but these are not insurmountable obstacles, they just make the trip suck a bit.
I mean, assuming you don't have any disability more significant than red/green color blindness. The NYC metro opinion on accessibility is basically just *TikTok TTS voice* "die 🙂"
