Will wakes up sometime around two, stumbling over to Arts & Crafts. He looks so incredibly, adorably sleepy, face creased with pillow marks and hair sticking out everywhere even worse than usual, that Nico can’t help his smile.
“Morning,” he says quietly, shifting over in the bench to make room. “Or, well, afternoon.”
“Mmfh,” Will responds. He sways on his feet, eyes still closed, so Nico has reach back and take his hand, guiding him to the seat Nico cleared for him.
“Still sleepy?”
Instead of answering, Will slumps onto his shoulder. Nico tenses for a moment, but quickly relaxes — Will is out of it. He’s a heavy weight on Nico’s side, and his breath comes out in little puffs; he’s halfway to snoring. He sets aside the clay sculpture he was making, wiping off his hands, and shifts slightly to make his shoulder more comfortable, sliding his hands in Will’s hair. After a quick glance to double check that no one’s around, he cards through the matted curls, carefully untangling the birds nest that sits currently upon his head.
“Night shift was long?”
Will groans, nuzzling deeper into Nico’s neck. Nico huffs, allowing it, turning his half-limp body so he’s practically sitting on top of him. It’s kind of a nice weight, actually. And Will is warm, slumped and half-sprawled in his lap like a freckly blanket.
“Got thrown up on three times.”
It takes Nico a second to decipher the words, mumbled as they are. His finger gets caught in a strand of Will’s hair as he winces, tugging a touch too hard. Will shivers.
“Oof.”
“Mhm. Shouldn’t complain, though. Not Cecil’s fault.” He pauses. “Well, it’s a little his fault. I told him not to mess with Billie’s garden.”
Nico smiles. “You know, it’s not the first time a Hermes kid has been poisoned for their dumbassery. You could’ve left his cabin to handle him.”
“They would do a horrible job. They might actually make him worse.”
“Yep.”
“…I can’t leave him to suffer, Neeks.”
“Hero complex,” Nico teases. “Sounds like a natural consequence to me.”
“Shhhh. I’m sleeping.”
“It’s two thirty in the afternoon, Solace.”
“Pot, kettle, et cetera.”
Nico smiles. “Only dorky people say et cetera when they’re half asleep.” He shifts, accepting that he has a lapful of head medic, now, no refunds or exchanges. It’s still, somehow, very comfortable — he feels as if he’s laying in a sun patch, under a warm, heavy blanket. Plus, Will smells like strawberries and lavender and his sandalwood shampoo. Nico could get used to it.
He does, however, subtly raise a couple skeleton to stand guard outside the gazebo — no need to get anyone gossiping. As cute as a sleepy Solace is, Nico can and will shove him to the ground the second anyone gets too close. He has a Reputation.
(He is a liar.)
“Did I miss the strawberry coffee cake this morning?”
“Yes.”
“Aw.”
Nico hums, untangling the last of his hair. Without anything for his hands to do, he slides them under Will’s hoodie, resting them in his stomach, ignoring his whining and exaggerated shiver at Nico’s ice-cold hands.
If Nico is going to function as his personal bean-bag chair, Will is going to function as his space heater. Fair’s fair.
“Saved a piece for you, though.”
He feels Will’s grin more than sees it, twisted up as they are. He feels his happy little wiggle, too, arms flailing before wrapping around Nico’s waist, thighs shifting before re-bracketing his hips.
“You’re my actual favourite.”
“Hm. I think you say that to all the boys you save you strawberry cake and let you nap on them.”
“Nah.” Will’s breathing starts to slow, body stilling as he rests his head right about Nico’s heart. He can feel his puffs of breath in his collarbone, tickling the skin under his thin t-shirt. “Just you.”
Nico flushes, more pleased than he’s willing to admit, and rests his chin on his head, watching over the strawberry fields. He checks that Will is actually asleep, and when he is, he presses a quick, darting kiss to his still-creased cheek, and smiles.
“You’re my favourite, too.”

Which Sans would build a pillow/blanket fort, and invite Motti to fabulous dinner date within?
Not gonna do all, but I'll do the ones I think would spoil Motti the most or not.
The ones that will:
Sans: it wouldn't be the best looking fort and teetering on collapsing, but he got her fav snacks and drink with their fav movie/show ready to play. They'll both fall asleep because it's still cozy.
Underswap: it's the best looking fort, like the picturesque instagram ones with plenty of fairy lights and a mountain of pillows. Foodwise could go either causal or extravagant, but more or less he'll opt for spoiling her with handmade pot stickers and orange chicken.
Dream: although a whole room will basically be covered in draping blankets that still make it walkable, there will be an actual dining table with a simple but delicious meal. Motti will tease him there's not supposed to be a table like this, but an A for effort. Until he shows her the “hidden” parts with plush pillows and lights. He made several themed “rooms” because he's extra.
The ones that take their own spin on it:
Red: That's a lot of effort for him so he's not gonna go to the extreme. but he will nail blankets over the bed and take all the pillows in the house and shove them in the “fort”. He ordered take-out and brought a movie projector. Passes out on Motti half way through the movie.
Farmer: will actually blindfold her and guide her to an area where he's laid out hay with blankets laying on top. Blankets strewn around with lights. It's nothing too fancy looking but that with the beautiful farm landscape makes it look really nice. He would make a simple meal for her though. The two will sleep out there.
Boysen: He's not getting on the ground or going to crawl around, he's beyond that and not a child!!! 😤 so what he'll do is get expensive drapery and strategically place them in the living room. He's got the pull-out couch set up as a makeshift nest. Wine, charcuterie board and he's got food in the oven. Doesn't do string lights, but has all the small lights giving an ambiance.
Ink: makes a fort out of cardboard boxes, but they're all painted and made into to look like a mini city. He forgot the food, and pillows…and basically that it's a date all together, but he has plenty of painting supplies! Motti orders the food and Ink chastises Motti if she stands up through the fort.
Error: he basically already lives on a bean bag, but would definitely help Motti make the fort. And then he'd kick her out because, wow, that's crowded and she's touching him.
The ones who won't:
Nightmare: pretty self explanatory.
Cross: okay listen, he TRIED but it fell apart and he was so embarrassed. He also didn't like the thought of being put on the spot if Motti saw it so he acted like he never made it in the first place. Takes her out to her favorite restaurant though.

The Baby (fluff/NSFW) 🩷🩶
For 🌈 anon
Alex had always been a little obsessed with you.
But ever since you got pregnant?
It was like he’d unlocked a new level of emotional meltdown. The clinginess? Unmatched. The affection? Constant. The reverence in his eyes every time he looked at your belly—even when it was just barely there—was enough to make your chest ache.
It didn’t help that the cats loved it too.
Churro had started sleeping on your stomach like it was his personal heat pad. Bean followed you everywhere. Moonlight and Peaches had become full-blown guards, perching on either side of you on the couch like they were protecting a throne.
And Socks?
Socks meowed at your bump every night before bed like he was saying goodnight to the baby.
“Your siblings are so weird,” Alex murmured, resting his hand on your belly as he pressed a kiss to your shoulder. “But you’re gonna love them.”
You looked up from where you were curled in his lap, amused. “You do know they’re cats, right?”
“They’re our children,” he corrected, dead serious. “They were here first. I’m already outnumbered.”
——————
That night, you were changing the sheets—half-distracted, tired, warm—and he stood there watching you like he was physically incapable of looking anywhere else.
You bent over slightly to fix a corner of the fitted sheet.
He made a sound.
You glanced back. “Are you okay?”
“No,” he said immediately. “You’re glowing. You’re nesting. You’re all soft and round and domestic and I’m losing my mind.”
You laughed. “Alex—”
He crossed the room in three long steps and wrapped his arms around you from behind, resting both hands on your stomach. Then he kissed the side of your neck. Slowly.
“You sure?” he whispered, voice lower now. “I don’t wanna hurt you. Or them.”
“You won’t,” you murmured, leaning back into him. “We’re okay. I promise.”
Still, he hesitated.
And then you grabbed his hand, slid it beneath your hoodie, and guided it to rest on your bare belly.
“Alex. I’m carrying your baby. You can touch me.”
That’s when he broke.
—————
He kissed every inch of skin like it was holy. Your collarbones. Your chest. Your stomach. He whispered things against your skin like he couldn’t hold them in:
“You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
“I can’t believe you’re mine.”
“You’re everything. You’re everything.”
He didn’t even try to be smooth.
He was slow. Careful. Emotional.
He kept one hand resting on your stomach the entire time, thumb stroking softly across your skin, his breath catching every time you whispered something back.
And when he was buried inside you—deep, slow, rocking into you like he was trying to memorize how it felt—he looked wrecked.
“Fuck,” he breathed, eyes fluttering. “You’re so warm. So full. I can feel you squeezing me. You’re perfect. I don’t—I don’t deserve this.”
You cupped his face, pulled him down to kiss you. “You’re mine, Alex. You’re the father of my baby. Of my cats. You’re not going anywhere.”
He groaned. “Don’t say that while I’m inside you, oh my god—”
“You love it,” you whispered.
“I do. I love you.”
You came with his name on your lips, legs wrapped around his waist, nails in his shoulders. He followed seconds later, gasping your name like a prayer.
—————-
Afterward, he curled up against you, head on your chest, one arm across your belly like he was keeping you both safe in his arms.
“I don’t think I can ever be normal again,” he mumbled.
You laughed sleepily. “You weren’t normal to begin with.”
“True.”
Moonlight jumped up onto the bed and carefully placed herself between you and Alex’s stomach, purring loudly.
“She’s already judging the baby,” you said, amused.
“She’s probably mad we didn’t name it after her.”
You kissed the top of his head. “We’ll add it to the list.”
He paused.
“Can I ask something dumb?”
“Always.”
He looked up at you with that soft, sleepy, broken-in love kind of face. “Do you think they’ll love me as much as the cats do?”
You didn’t even hesitate.
“They’re gonna love you more.”

Idol!Tale : The Rise To The Top
Idol!Tale:The Rise To The Top
Summary:
Chapter 1: The Start
It was a rainy night in the city of Snowdin. The rain fell onto the sidewalks, streets and buildings , the lights from the tall skyscrapers reflected onto the puddles starting to form . The rain kept landing on the roof of a small apartment building with Four 1-person apartments inside. Two of the apartments were inhabited while the other two were for sale, meanwhile inside one of the apartments “Sans tell me the story again please brother!” Papyrus asked while sitting in his race car bed with his brother Sans sitting next to him “Alright alright Bro one more time just for you” Sans said as he stared at the hand painted glow in the dark stars painted on the ceiling “Once upon a time long ago the monsters were at war but soon the conflict ended and the world was split in two , one side for the humans and the other side for us and soon there was a line that either side wouldn’t cross but there came a human , a small human child they followed their curiosity and soon they crossed the line . They made friends with the monsters in hope that the two kinds would reunite but soon their plan failed and the small human died . The world remains un-reunited as two parts of one whole” Sans sang “Again again please?” Papyrus asked again “No not tonight bro maybe tomorrow but till then go to sleep” Sans said pulling the blankets over his brother “Night Sans” Papyrus said softly as he watched his brother walk towards the door “Night bro” Sans said before he turned the lights off and closed the door . Sans walked out of his brother’s apartment and made sure to lock the door before going into his own, “I’m home” Sans said to himself while flicking the light switch on to the kitchen lights on he walked to the dining table and sat down while grabbing his book he was reading earlier. He read the title ‘The Ultimate Guide to Physics’ sue him he likes science so what if it’s not his fault he got the top grade in science class . He opened his book, took out the old bookmark and he began to read, Sometime later he put his bookmark back in and looked at the time ‘10:00pm’
He got up to grab his laptop and sat down on his couch aka what papyrus called ‘The Nest’ because it’s covered in blankets and pillows, he covered himself with at least 3 blankets and began to work . He wrote a least five essays before he felt his eyes starting to durp and not long after he felt the calm sensation of sleep falling over him as he closed his eyes , Papyrus woke up early the next morning he got dressed and went over to his brother’s apartment just to find him asleep on the couch with his laptop still on, he walked over to the couch pick up the laptop and saved the data and closed the laptop , he set down the laptop on the table where his brother would be able to find it . He walked back over to the couch and pulled the blankets more over his brother. Sans woke up to hear familiar humming noises…..very familiar humming noises , he opened his eyes slowly letting his eyes adjust to the light and in the corner of his eye he could see a figure with a red scarf humming while baking something. Sans sat up slowly laying on his back against a pillow and the figure noticed him moving and set down something and started walking over to him “Good morning Brother!, I made pancakes!” Papyrus said as he walked over morning paps” he muttered as he looked up at his little brother “Say .....i'm not really hungry right now paps” “Your stuck aren’t you” Papyrus said while sighing “maybe….” Sans said with a sheepish grin “Up you go” Papyrus said as he lifted Sans up and out from under the blankets and pillows that were on top of him, he set Sans down on a bean bag “Thanks bro” Sans thanked his brother as Papyrus sighed “Honestly Sans you need to stop getting stuck and I won’t always be there to help you when I’m top idol” Papyrus said as he shook his head “oh Sans you have to leave soon if you don’t want to be late to work” Papyrus said as he looked at the time “o’kay” Sans replied as he stood up and started gathering his things for his shift at the library, he grabbed a snack his brother made for him , a few books to return, his laptop , his I.D card , his phone and stuffed it all in his backpack “I think I got everything…Papyrus what does the list say?” Sans asked his brother “Snack, books, laptop,I.D and phone” Papyrus replied “good I got it all then” Sans said as he picked up his backpack and headed for the door “Bye Paps” he said as he closed the door. Sans was putting back books on the shelves when one of his favorite songs, creature by half * alive started playing on the speakers and as the opening started he started humming along “I know I’m made of clay that’s worn , blinded by imperfect form but I will trust the artist molding me~” he sang as he noticed some of the kids watching him “that was amazing Mr. Sans!” One of the children, a small bunny kid, said excitedly “You should be an idol!” another kid said “I’m not that good” Sans said dismissively as the children looked at each other then back to him “can you please post videos of you singing on Metube?” They asked him “S-sure I guess?!” He said confused as the kids cheered “can you tell us what it’s called tomorrow Mr. Sans?” The youngest of the group asked him “Sure I will” he said as he smiled, As the kids walked off somewhere and he continued putting the books away. Papyrus watched his brother close the door and started cleaning up , he put away the dishes and walked back to his apartment. Locked the door to his brother’s apartment and unlocked the door on his own and started gathering things to head to his own job at the ‘Web Café’ where he worked as a cook .

"Never confuse 'I won't' for 'I can't'."
I don't usually share campaign stories, but this one was too good.
I was doing my attempt at RP pacifist Durge on tactician. I built a Very Good Bean who, after their lobotomy, was horrified by their fragments of memory and urges and wanted nothing to do with them. More of a dual personality than a temptation.
I built them as a warlock, pact of the blade, fiend patron; with the headcanon that their patron was Bhaal. I fully intended that if they survived the climactic fight with Orin they would respec from a warlock into another class. Symbolizing that Jergal helped them sever the bond.
So, despite being pact of the blade, the whole campaign Durge did NOT do damage. Their pact weapon was Phalar Aluve (I made them a drow so that was symbolically appropriate and I pretended Eilistraee was helping to guide them on their way.) and all of their spells were focused on defense and buffing party members. With mage armor Durge was actually very tanky and could soak up hits as well. Which fits with the game lore of Durge supposedly having a very high pain tolerance. (Trying to strangle someone with your own intestines is just METAL. Props, Durge!!) Over the course of the campaign the rhythm of fights becomes Durge supporting with Sing/Shriek and warlock spells for AOE and buffs, and two heavy frontline hitters doing melee with a rotating third party for healing or range as needed.
After ACT 2 one of those frontliners became Minthara. Because Minthara makes you swear to keep her close when she joins you I put her in my party permanently. Just for kicks, and because Durge got a lot of approval without me trying, when Minthara wanted to start a romance I decided why not? They're great together. And Durge wasn't already in a relationship so... Drow power couple. Cool.
So, with that setup knowledge, humor me a moment where I duck into Minthara POV.
You're heading into the Temple of Bhaal, probably the last place on Faerun you want to be. Waiting within is a nest of assassins and murders, all lead by ORIN. The one person who terrifies you more than anything in the world: more than anything in your long, long life of intrigue and bloodshed.
Ever since you've returned to the city you've found clues and heard witnesses state that your partner is quite possibly the most perfect killing machine alive. But you simply can't see it. They are clever and cunning, tactically minded, adept at navigating the various personalities in the group, and skilled at placing people where they will shine. But you have never seen them get their own hands bloody in combat. Nor are you certain that they even know how to use their longsword. They have no armor, no offensive spellcasting capabilities. They rely on you in combat to shield them. They steadfastly, against all logic and reason, refuse to take advantage of their gifts. The blood of a god runs in their veins, and despite all your urging they will not listen to you and use it. It drives you mad.
You're frightened for yourself, but you are more frightened for them. You've a bond with them that you never expected and will never have again. You've seen their mind, you know beyond a doubt that their love for you is true and that they mean it when they say they will die for you. You will never, not in a thousand years, find anyone like them again. You are determined that whatever happens you will NOT lose them.
Orin is there. And Orin is furious. You have not killed Gortash. But your lover talks her down from killing her captive. Goads her, in fact, using inside knowledge of her family to put her off of her guard. Wound her. Despite yourself you half chuckle. Clever, hopefully it won't provoke her to greater ferocity.
Then Orin becomes The Slayer. You have never seen a more fearsome creature. Worse still, a barrier forms cutting Durge off from the rest of the group.
Murder incarnate, and they must face them alone.
As the slayer roars, you see Durge snap their fingers and darkness spreads across the arena. The Slayer leaps forward into the cloud as you hear Phalar Aluve begin to shriek. This is it. You know that you will never see them alive again.
The most horrible sounds of absolute slaughter come from within the darkness. For several agonizing seconds come the unmistakable noises of something being BRUTALIZED. When the Darkness spell begins to fade you know that your love has died—
Durge is standing, untouched, blade bloody, and Orin is dissolving into viscera at their feet.
Your jaw drops. Your allies' jaws drop. The unholy assassins' jaws drop. Bhaal, when he appears, admits "I expected the other." (I had to laugh at how perfect that scripted line was. I couldn't help it.)
So a quick breakdown of what happened
Orin is missing a chunk of health because I played psychological warfare with her and she lost, lmfao. Durge has devil's sight invocation, because of course they do. Why wouldn't they? Durge uses CHAR as a weapon modifier because pact of the blade. Rocking +5 mod as a damage stat. Minthara gave Durge Elemental Weapon on Phalar Aluve before they entered the fight. (She was worried.) Durge was wearing Amulet of the Harpers for Shield, and already had a hella high AC from robe of supreme defenses/mage armor/bracers of defense. Durge was wearing Caustic Ring and Strange Conduit ring. Durge has an awakened tadpole, Luck of the Far Realms, and Perilous Stakes. Durge won initiative. This ended up being the thing that made it all possible: outspeeding Orin.
Round one: Bonus Action: Drink a potion of speed. Action: Drop Darkness Action: Set Phalar Aluve to Shriek
Orin leaps into Darkness, and MISSES ALL HER ATTACKS. I had to drop Shield from Harper's amulet after about 2 of them but I still couldn't believe I got away with it. Darkness stays up.
Round two: Bonus Action (yay Zaithisk!!): Perilous Stakes, Orin fails her save. She is now vulnerable to EVERYTHING. Cut loose with all 4 attacks at advantage. Phalar Aluve, two handed, 1d10+CHAR(5)+1 Elemental Weapon 1d4 lightning Shriek 1d4 thunder Caustic Band 2 acid Strange Conduit, active from Darkness, 1d4 psychic Luck of the far realms Crit on the first attack. All 4 attacks hit.
Orin went down in 1 turn of damage. Never before have I wanted to be able to record my games so much. I had a plan going in because I knew I'd have to solo Orin, but I didn't think it would work THAT well or I'd roll so lucky!! It fit so perfectly into Durge. "Never confuse 'I won't' for 'I can't'." LMFAO Pretty sure only Jaheira and Minsc weren't shocked.

Forbes "VSSL is encouraging more people to enjoy their own homemade coffee drinks outside. Its Nest Pour-Over Kit is great for camping, backpacking, summer beach days, picnics or frequent travel when there is no decent coffee maker around. It is an all-in-one V60 pour over, grinder, plus a pair of mugs and lid that is compact enough to fit into a car cup holder or backpack. The coffee it makes is delicious because the beans are ground on the spot and poured over hot water already in the thermos. Even better, you can use it for other libations later in the day without the grinder."

Beached Whale X Richard Madden
MasterList
Richard Madden Masterlist

It took a frankly ridiculous amount of effort just to roll onto my side. I grunted an embarrassingly guttural sound as I tried to manoeuvre the pillow beneath my bump. No position was comfortable. No angle made the heaviness go away. My back ached. My feet throbbed. My hips were in open rebellion against the concept of gravity.
And worst of all, I felt completely and utterly not myself.
Once upon a time, I’d liked getting dressed up. Doing my hair. Feeling like me. Now, I wore the same oversized top for three days straight, and my hair resembled a small animal nesting on my head.
I stared at the ceiling, blinking back sudden tears. Nothing dramatic had happened today. But the build-up of feeling useless dependent, clumsy, huge just came to a head like it often did these days. I felt like a bloated version of the woman Richard fell in love with. A beached whale with mood swings.
I rubbed my bump apologetically. “Sorry, little bean. I’m not sad because of you. I’m just… sore and tired. And I miss being able to put socks on without dislocating something.”
“Hey, love?”
His voice came from the doorway. I looked over to find Richard leaning against the frame, arms crossed. He wasn’t smiling, not really. But there was something in his eyes concern softening into affection that made my lip wobble.
He crossed the room and crouched beside the bed, brushing hair from my forehead.
“You’ve got that look,” he murmured.
“What look?”
“The one that says you’re one wrong word away from sobbing and accusing me of looking at you funny.”
I gave a watery laugh, which immediately turned into a sniffle. “I’m a mess.”
“No, you’re not.” He kissed the tip of my nose. “You’re just Overworked. And growing a whole human, which, I might add, is the most metal thing anyone can do.”
I tried to smile but failed. “I feel like a whale, Richard. A whale who got stuck on land and is now just flopping around, waiting for the sea to take her back.”
He chuckled, then stood with a small groan. “Right. That’s it. No more moping. You, my darling land whale, are getting in a bath.”
“I don’t think I can get in a bath.”
“You can. You will. I’ll help. I’m excellent at helping.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?”
“Absolutely. I’m award-winning, in fact.”
“I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that you once tried to assemble a crib and ended up hammering it to the carpet.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Fake news.”
But his hands were gentle as he helped me sit up, guiding me with the same reverence one might use to handle ancient artefacts. He made me sit in the chair while he padded off to the bathroom. I heard water start to run, and the faint clinking of bottles and taps.
After a few minutes, he reappeared.
“Alright,” he said, offering both hands. “Come with me.”
I let him guide me down the hall, waddling like a wonky duck. When we reached the bathroom, I blinked at the sight.
Candles. My favourite ones, dotted safely around the edges. The lights dimmed. The room smelled like lavender and something sweet chamomile, maybe. Steam curled lazily around the edges of the tub, which he’d filled nearly to the brim with water and bubbles.
“You did all this…?”
He beamed, clearly proud of himself. “Course. You think I’m going to let you cry into a pregnancy pillow when I could be the hero of the evening?”
I stared at the bath, then at him, overwhelmed. “I don’t even know if I’ll fit.”
“Oi. None of that.” He turned to me gently. “You’ll fit. And if you get stuck, I’ll call the fire brigade. But only the hot ones.”
I snorted, which quickly turned into a laugh. He looked delighted.
“C’mon,” he said softly. “Let me take care of you.”
With an embarrassing amount of grunting and manoeuvring, and his steady hands supporting me the whole time, I finally sank into the tub. The water was perfect warm, soothing, like a hug for my entire body. I sighed audibly as I settled in, my limbs finally unclenching.
Then Richard slid in behind me and carefully pulled me back against his chest.
His arms came around me, hands resting on top of my belly. He pressed a soft kiss to the back of my head, his breath stirring the fine hairs at my neck.
We sat like that for a while, the bubbles tickling my skin, the warm weight of him behind me grounding me in the best way. I closed my eyes and let my head rest against his shoulder.
“You know,” he said after a moment, “I’ve never loved you more than I do right now.”
I scoffed. “When I’m puffy and swollen and hormonal?”
“When you’re literally creating life,” he said quietly. “When you’re letting me be part of all this. You’ve never looked more beautiful.”
“You’re insane.”
“Mad for you, yeah,” he agreed, nuzzling his nose against my hair.
I turned my face slightly, just enough to see the side of his. “You’ve been so… patient. I know I’ve not been easy to be around lately.”
He shrugged, his arms tightening just slightly. “You’ve been going through the biggest change a person can go through. It’s not supposed to be easy. But I’m here. Always.”
My throat thickened again, but this time with something gentler. Love, maybe. Or the kind of gratefulness that sits in your chest like a warm stone.
“You’re going to be a brilliant dad,” I whispered.
His breath caught, just for a second. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
We stayed like that for a long time. He massaged my shoulders, slow and rhythmic, the way he knew I liked it. Every so often, he’d murmur something into my ear a daft joke, a quiet reminder of how much he loved me, a whispered plan about what we’d do when the baby arrived.
At one point, I felt a soft kick from inside, and Richard’s hand moved instinctively to follow it.
“There you are, trouble,” he whispered to my belly. “You giving your mum a hard time in there?”
Another kick, firmer this time. I laughed.
“He knows your voice,” I said, amazed.
Richard looked awed. “Bloody hell. That’s wild.”
Eventually, the water began to cool, and he helped me out, wrapping me in the fluffiest towel we owned. He dried me with exaggerated care, like I was royalty, then helped me into my comfiest nightshirt and guided me back to bed.
I curled up on my side well, as curled as I could manage and he lay behind me, spooning me carefully, one hand resting protectively on my belly.
“You alright now?” he murmured into my shoulder.
“Better than alright.”
“Good,” he said, already beginning to sound sleepy. “Because I’m not going anywhere.”
I smiled into the pillow. “Good. Because I’d hunt you down.”
“Terrifying,” he mumbled. “But fair.”
His breathing slowed, and I listened to it for a while, letting it lull me toward sleep.
Even in all the discomfort, all the fear, all the aches and swelling and frustration I felt loved. Whole. Not just because he made me feel beautiful when I didn’t. But because he saw me. Took care of me. Chose to show up for me in the quietest, most important ways.
And as sleep tugged me under, I realised that being a beached whale wasn't so bad… not when I had my own warm ocean wrapped around me.

How to Create a Relaxing Outdoor Lounge for Ultimate Comfort
Introduction
An outdoor lounge is more than just a seating area—it’s a personal retreat where you can unwind, entertain guests, and enjoy nature. Whether you have a small balcony or a spacious patio, designing a cozy outdoor lounge is easier than you think. In this guide, we’ll explore practical and stylish ways to transform your outdoor space into a relaxation haven.
1. Choose Comfortable Seating
Comfort is key when designing an outdoor lounge. Consider these options:
Outdoor sectionals with plush, weather-resistant cushions.
Hammocks and hanging chairs for a laid-back vibe.
Daybeds and chaise lounges for sunbathing and reading.
Bean bags or floor cushions for a boho-style cozy corner.
2. Add Shade for Comfort
Too much sun can make your outdoor lounge unusable. Create a shaded retreat with:
Large umbrellas or cantilever umbrellas.
Pergolas draped with fabric or climbing plants.
Retractable awnings for adjustable coverage.
Gazebos or shade sails for a resort-style look.
3. Incorporate Cozy Lighting
Soft lighting creates a warm and inviting atmosphere in the evening. Try these options:
String lights for a magical glow.
Lanterns or LED candles for an intimate ambiance.
Wall-mounted sconces for modern appeal.
Fire pits or tabletop fireplaces for warmth and elegance.
4. Select a Stylish Outdoor Rug
Define your lounge area and add comfort underfoot with:
Weather-resistant outdoor rugs in neutral or vibrant tones.
Textured jute or woven rugs for a natural look.
Patterned rugs to add a pop of color and personality.
5. Bring in Nature with Greenery
Plants add life and serenity to any outdoor lounge. Consider:
Potted plants and vertical gardens for lush greenery.
Climbing vines on trellises for a natural privacy screen.
Fragrant flowers like lavender and jasmine for a sensory boost.
Mini herb gardens for beauty and practicality.
6. Enhance with Cozy Accessories
Make your lounge extra inviting with thoughtful accessories:
Throw pillows and blankets for added comfort.
Side tables or coffee tables for convenience.
Decorative trays and lanterns for a stylish touch.
Bluetooth speakers or water features for a relaxing ambiance.
7. Incorporate Multi-Functional Furniture
Maximize your space with:
Storage benches that double as seating.
Foldable chairs and nesting tables for small patios.
Convertible sofas or ottomans for versatility.
Outdoor bar carts for entertaining guests.
8. Create Privacy for a Peaceful Escape
For a secluded lounge experience, consider:
Outdoor curtains or bamboo screens for a resort-like feel.
Tall potted plants or hedges for natural separation.
DIY pallet walls or wooden fences for an urban retreat.
Lattice panels with climbing plants for a soft, natural barrier.
Conclusion
Designing an outdoor lounge doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. With the right furniture, lighting, greenery, and accessories, you can create a space that’s both stylish and comfortable. Whether for solo relaxation or social gatherings, a well-designed lounge will make you love spending time outdoors. Thursday January 11, 2024
Up early for our excursion to Corcovado National Park, with our 4 new friends from the UK (2 originally Irish, one Scot, and one Brit). We had breakfast and met our guide, Tony. Then down to the boat for about a 30 minute ride to the park, with sea a little rougher today, but not too bad.
Tony is extremely knowledgeable and we started with driving up the river a bit, and he pointed out many species of birds, faster than I could record them. We’d heard a bit about Tony from Fernando last night, they’d been out birding together that evening. We stopped at an island just outside the park where Tony told us about the brown footed boobies. They came from somewhere in South America to nest here, and had a fuzzy white baby chick with them.
Landing was a little more exciting with the surf up, but the boat pilot navigated it well and timed it perfectly. We’d been instructed to wear closed toed shoes while hiking in the park, so Jeff and I took off our shoes and jumped in barefoot. We were met by an officer, not terribly friendly, not terribly friendly. It was her job to inspect our backpacks to ensure we weren’t bringing in any disposable plastic bottles.
Tony was a fantastic guide for the park. He told me in the early 1980s he had his first opportunity to come to the United States. They took a bus tour from Washington DC to Tucson Arizona. In Tucson, he lived with the family for eight months. The trip was funded by several central American governments for them to learn farming practices and bring what they learned back to Costa Rica. Tony said he was 24 years old before he ever heard anybody speak English, so going to the United States was a crash course for him. Tony grew up in the area near what is now this national park. It was amazing to hear him describe how he worked with his grandfather when he was a child to take down trees in the rainforest and burn them, then level the fields to plant rice, beans and bananas, and have space for cattle. The area he walked us through first had been the farm, and he pointed out the new growth of the rainforest only about 45 years old, and lots of remnants of banana trees.
The sign said to stay on the path, but that didn’t apply to Tony, apparently. He had on knee-high rubber boots, and he would call for a bird, listen for a reply, and then go trapsing into the jungle expecting us to follow him - a bit out of my comfort zone of course. We were able to see about a half dozen different kinds of birds. I didn’t retain all the names, nor did I really get photos. He also found several hiding places of bats, and we disturbed a few of them and they flew off in a huff. It was very hot, and very humid with no breeze. Jeff and I both felt ourselves getting lightheaded.
Soon, we looped around and went back to the pavilion where we had a snack and freshened our water bottles, and had another shot at the bano, then we went across the river to the area of the old growth rain forest. By then other groups were starting to arrive, and I think Tony led us on the loop backwards from the way most people do it, because we didn’t encounter many groups until we were walking out of the forest . Tony let us down to the beach as we heard the Scarlet macaw in the trees down there. It was fantastic to stand on the beach and watch three macaws feeding on some kind of nut. Jeff and I had watched Mackay on the beach a few days ago With similar behavior pattern. Tony said the macaw beak cracks the nut with 100 pounds of pressure. Whoa, keep your fingers away! They flew off together and it was simply majestic!
Back in the forest, Tony had us stay on the main path while he went down a side path. He was looking for a sloth that had been there a few days ago, but the sloth had moved? We Trudged on, and soon we came upon several families of Coati, several moms with lots of little babies. They were adorable to watch. Tony had a lot to tell us about who in the jungle is prey, and who’s predator, up and down the chain. The Coati eat crocodile eggs and I can’t remember what kind of animal feeds on the Coati.
Back to the ranger station, and our boat arrived about noon. On our way back to Aguila, we stopped at a beach I recognized as San Josecito (love how familiar we are with the area now), and picked up the boys from last night’s band. Looking forward to another show tonight.
We had another delicious lunch, sat with two ladies from the UK. They live in London and on the Isle of Skye. Charlotte is a landscape designer with work all over the UK and Scandinavia - cool! After lunch, I retreated to the hammock. Scrolled through email, read a bit and napped until it was time to shower and head down to Happy Hour. While I was in the shower, it started raining outside - heavy rain. We grabbed our large umbrellas and headed down to the Jungle Bar, enjoying the rain - the smell, the noise and the moisture in the air!
We played a couple of games of cribbage and chatted with some others. G&T was mighty refreshing, but I just couldn’t eat much of the tuna tartare appetizer tonight!
7pm dinner bell, and the music started right on cue. We met some new arrivals, but didn’t chat a lot as the music was the show again! Just after dessert was served, it started raining again really hard, and blew into the first layer of the restaurant! The band moved a bit more towards to the center of the room, as did most of us! And then we lost power. There was an emergency flood light over the desk, giving us a bit of light, and the singer’s amp was battery operated, as he kept singing even though the accompanying keyboard had stopped. It was awesome!! Fernando called it “Jungle Charm” and I can’t think of a better term. The power came on after about 15 minutes, and most of us took advantage of that to head back to our rooms. I heard the next day that the band kept playing … wish we’d have stayed!

Episode 2 of NCIS: Sydney briefly took us to Cowan Creek in New South Wales, where a tussle between two fisherbros was cut short by their discovery of a dead body stashed in a waterhole.
As Mackey, JD et al descended on the scene, the vic was identified as Sergeant Lee Mitchell, a compliance officer at the U.S. Naval supply depot in White Bay. Doc Roy reported that Mitchell had not drowned/been drowned, nor even died at the scene, but instead was felled by a snake bite — from a highly venomous taipan, Blue in turn reported. It turned out that just such a taipan, plus other exotic and highly valuable critters, had been taken during a recent break-in at a local animal sanctuary.
Mackey and JD shook some branches over at the U.S. Naval supply depot, where Mitchell didn’t seem to have any enemies at all — odd for a competent compliance officer, Mackey noted — while Evie (wielding Chekhov’s Gait Recognizer) and DeShawn found the crawlspace beneath a remote community center where Mitchell apparently had been trapped, along with the taipan, to die.
Mitchell’s recovered phone, highly encrypted but partially cracked by Blue, led the team to realize he had been tracking a grunt from the depot; but just as Mackey and JD held that grunt’s feet to the fire, a sniper bullet to his bean removed him from the equation. The kitchen table in Mitchell’s apartment, meanwhile, beheld a hidden trove of math calculations. Blue, in her most Abby moment yet, put Mitchell’s music playlist in her headphones while poring over the numbers, and eventually deduced that the common factor among the calculations was ~130 kg. — or, the recently assassinated depot grunt’s body weight. Mitchell had gotten wise to a scheme that was robbing the depot of 130 kg. of goods at a time, most recently military-grade rifles.
Evie’s gait recognition gizmo put the final piece of the puzzle together, when it detected that the animal sanctuary lady was part of the robbery crew/scheme. Alas, just as Evie and DeShawn got that intel, the remaining baddies, in the middle of selling off the firearms, got the drop on them and tied them up inside the reptile house. After confirming that Mitchell’s depot supervisor was also in on the scheme, a fast-driving (albeit sometimes on the wrong side of the road!) Mackey and JD raced to the animal sanctuary and a standoff/shootout ensued, but DeShawn used Evie’s ankle-holstered pistol to free some snakes and spook the last gunman.
Things we learned/observed about the team members this week: Evie schooled DeShawn on white tail spiders, with a tale about how a nest of some effectively ended her relationship with a beau… DeShawn had a soft spot for some of the stolen animals found dead in a trash can, and as such asked Doc Roy to properly dispose of them… Blue was delighted by a macaw found alive among the stolen critters and kept it in her work area, until it inaccurately started repeating “MACKEY DUMBASS” over and over again…. And TVLine’s slang guide came in very handy, with mentions of “telling porkie pies,” “taking the piss” and “scissors, paper rock” and “nuffy.”
