Oh man. Now I'm crying.

I'm very comfortable setting hardware standards for desktops and laptops, I'm very comfortable sourcing servers and getting the parts and software that they need to be configured, I am *not* comfortable being asked to build tech infrastructure to meet the clients' needs when I'm not familiar with their networks, business, or utilization.

That IS an unreasonable thing to have assigned to me and no wonder I kept getting stressed out looking at those tickets.

Anyway I have now messaged my coworker (former VP of operations at old job who is now one of our very few level three techs and who is the supervisor of our new networking team) "hello! I need help! please help me I can't quote these alone" and I'm crying and I feel much better.

What a stupid way to get catharsis.

(the firewall is not just the firewall! you have to consider throughput and what APs it will be networked with and ease of use for the consultants and cost of licenses over multiple years - will this be compatible with their setup? I literally don't have the first clue how to figure that out and I don't want to be the one who recommends a piece of hardware that means they have to replace three other pieces of hardware because I didn't know it didn't support some standard or another! You know the saying about a stopped clock and all that? Ashley Rindsberg has an article that does just that for Pirateswire.

For the uninitiated, there has been a concerted effort across various social media platforms to disseminate and normalize terrorist propaganda and rhetoric. This comes from a core group of people who are moderators for multiple subreddits that are seemingly unrelated to Israel and Palestine but have all suddenly become very (((anti-Zionist))). These moderators all stem from one called r/Palestine and have a Discord server where they coordinate brigades, misinformation campaigns, and attacks across different platforms and subreddits.

This is what their Discord looks like.

You can clearly see they have actual "taskforces" for spreading their rhetoric across various sites and platforms. The irony here is that they often accuse anyone who speaks out against them of being a "paid Israeli propagandist spreading Hasbara", but here we clearly see they're organized to spread their own misinformation.

What is important to note is that they're getting a lot of their information from Resistance News Network (RNN). RNN is something I have talked about before when I covered Dropout's Palestine channel in their Discord server and how people were pushing it as a source of information. RNN is a telegram channel that collects and aggregates information and content from recognized terrorist groups and spreads it. This is not done in a neutral "this is what they're saying" but in a "we support this" manner. Here is a list of the channels they aggregate from:

RNN has repeatedly and clearly made its stance clear that it sees violent terrorism as a justifiable means of "resistance", even when that "resistance" targets civilians and is laced with violent bigoted rhetoric that these supposed Leftists object to. In fact, RNN is actually associated with known terrorist fronts like Samidoun and is clearly misleading Leftists in its narrative that it supports "resistance" and whatever that means to Westerners.

It doesn't.

It supports violent extremist ideology that results in terrorism. Not resistance or revolution. But I've talked about how many of these terrorist groups are purposefully misleading naive Westerners and have been for decades. I've talked about how this has been the game plan for years and we have actual confirmation of this from a meeting that took place in Philadelphia due to FBI wiretaps.

I would not be surprised if we found that members of this misinformation network, as Rindsberg calls it, are active on here Tumblr as well. Considering the number of accounts that justify the actions of these terrorist groups and their rhetoric, pretend to be Jewish and justify violent antisemitism, and spread misinformation...well it seems more than likely. They're across multiple platforms, and if they're on the likes of Quora then they're definitely here as well.

So when jumblr calls out specific accounts for not actually being Jewish and spreading antisemitic rhetoric and terrorist propaganda then you should stop and consider that there is actual precedent for this. It's actively happening and you, the goy, who are calling Jews "Nazis" are actively falling for it.

Time to be Internet Cockroaches

So I am constantly in active rebellion of the centralized web. We're in a world where all of our online interactions happen on just a handful of sites (and this includes DIscord and Tumblr too).

SO I WANT TO REMIND FOLKS -- YOU CAN BUILD YOUR OWN STUFF, AND WHEN YOUR FRIENDS DO IT YOU SHOULD USE IT.

Now I know not everyone can pay for their own webhosting and setup their own stuff, but for those of us who can -- we should. When every major platform is at risk, we should be splintering out across the web and decentralizing as much as we can.

I host the Nerd & Tie [dot] Social forums for my friends and my stuff for instance.

It's a "slow forum" right now, but it can support a lot more -- and works well on mobile. But, like, on a lot of webhosts setting up a Flarum forum like that takes almost zero technical skill.

And you can set up your own blog on a self hosted server. Like Wordpress is incredibly easy to set up on your own site, We run the main Nerd & Tie site -- and we use it to serve up our podcasts. I also use it to power my webcomics like Peregrine Lake.

My personal website comes from the old internet, so my blog is literally run from a hand coded piece of software I hacked together originally back in like 2001.

And you might be asking yourself "How do I follow blogs that are independently run" and the answer is simple -- RSS feeds.

RSS is an XML format that breaks down items in a standard way that can be interpreted by an RSS reader. You probably already use something that touches RSS feeds -- Podcasts run entirely on RSS feeds. I don't know if it still works, but even Tumblr blogs have RSS feeds at the url [username].tumblr.com/rss.

Now I use Thunderbird for email, which has a built in RSS reader to monitor certain blogs to watch for import updates.

Is it harder to discover people to follow in this model? Absolutely. The onus is on the reader to seek out the folks they want to read and interact with. But it's safer. We see with congress's attempts to constantly ban TikTok and Musk's destruction of Twitter that centralized platforms have deep vulnerabilities. By moving across the web to multiple datacenters on multiple hosts we ensure that we're much harder to get rid of.

Musk’s DOGE Teen Was Fired By Cybersecurity Firm for Leaking Company Secrets

Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old member of Elon Musk’s squad that’s criss-crossing US government agencies, was fired from an internship after he was accused of sharing information with a competitor. “Edward has been terminated for leaking internal information to the competitors,” said a June 2022 message from an executive of the firm, Path Network, which was seen by Bloomberg News. “This is unacceptable and there is zero tolerance for this.” Afterward, Coristine wrote that he’d retained access to the cybersecurity company’s computers, though he said he hadn’t taken advantage of it. “I had access to every single machine,” he wrote on Discord in late 2022, weeks after he was dismissed from Path Network, according to messages seen by Bloomberg. Posting under the name “Rivage,” which six people who know him said was his alias, Coristine said he could have wiped Path’s customer-supporting servers if he’d wished. He added, "I never exploited it because it's just not me." His comments, made in a Discord server focused on another competitor company, worried executives at Path Network, who believed there was no legitimate reason for a former employee to access their machines, according to a person familiar with the incident. The person asked not to be named, citing the sensitivity of the matter. [...] In meetings at the US Agency for International Development and the General Services Administration, Coristine and other colleagues have discussed how they can use that data to potentially replace government employees with artificial intelligence and train chatbots to do the work. [...] Coristine regularly posted on both Discord and the messaging service Telegram in 2021 and 2022, when he was under 18. His posts are a mix of discussions about Path Network, coder-talk and lewd insults. [...] JoeyCrafter was a member of Telegram groups called “Kiwi Farms Christmas Chat” and “Kiwi Farms 100% Real No Fake No Virus,” both referencing an online forum known for harassment campaigns. Typically, the site has been used to share the personal information of a target, encouraging others to harass them online, in-person, over the phone or by falsely alerting police to a violent crime or active shooter incident at their home. In online messages, the aliases that investigators said Coristine uses have regularly discussed free speech and internet providers’ role in keeping websites online, including one that hosted the neo-Nazi site the Daily Stormer.

Not to be dramatic but the being teammed with so many people individually who are not teammates themselves is emblematic of the change in mentality towards teams and team projects that started in the last months of season 4.

It's not universal to the entirety of season 4, as some teams, like 3ht survived the entire season being unified in their common goals.

But for players like Mapicc, Zam, and to some extent spoke too, the season was characterized by realizing and putting into practice your own personal goals and values, regardless of what the team was doing or wanted to do.

Which is interesting because they are part of this "problem" of the change in view towards teammates despite being The Lifestealers. And yet, for most of us, devotions just Are lifesteal and are seen as the golden standard. But it, interestingly enough, they are not immune. This is not so much a new member mentality as a new lifesteal mentality everyone is working through.

At the start of team awesome all three worked happily together, fulfilling each other's goals despite personal preferences. Because that's was a teammate does. They killed 3ht because mapicc wanted to despite Ro objecting (but he still helped kill them), they obsidianed spawn despite zam not being too happy that his builds were being destroyed (but he still helped because he was happy to be included and he didn't care that much), they protected the prison and made up reasons from thin air about how they were in the right for it, they duped and opposed APO.

Personal preference for not doing this or that plot didn't usually matter when it came to supporting the team's idea.

Hesitations were spoken and resolved with little dramatics, and any player the others wanted to kill were accepted wholesale by the team. There's a little moment I just watched where Spoke and Zam bed trap planet and Mapicc opposes bc it's Planet but then he realizes he doesn't care that much and if it was anyone else he'd be like hell yea.

Which is such a far cry from what we're seeing this season with like Kab going, if you threaten Clown too much Mane I will just betray you outright despite our teaming.

Whichever members you picked as your team were your top priority. They were the ones you choose to protect and be protected by. Past relationships, interior affections, were generally put to the side in favor of supporting the team.

Personal preference for not killing this or that member didn't usually matter when it came to supporting the team.

That all changed by the end of the season. Zam learned to stand up for his personal preferences of no exploits. Leaving team after team. To this day it's still seen as the battle of being true to himself and being true to the team and if you can do what the team wants without loosing yourself.

Mapicc betrayed Ro with his trap everyone in the end when he trapped Planetlord (omg I just realized how damn much Mapicc cares about Planet. They have never teamed but he will avoid killing Planet so much. this is like also a s5 comment. anyway)

Mapicc and Zam both opposed Spoke's ending and jumped into both portals without talking to the server.

And that has created the internal mentality of individualism on this server. It's so much less this team vs this team and so much more us against them but i love some of them so im not against them but you are but that's okay i just wont attack them you can attack them.

Each player collects their network of trust individually with other members.

Zam with Derap and Mapicc and Poafa, all separately bc heaven knows poafa STILL hasn't been added to the team

Mapicc with the Empire and Zam seperately

Derap with Zam and Wemmbu and Jaron and 4c to lesser extents SB and Pangi

Kab with Bacon and Hannah and Clown and now Mane and Pentar

Flame with Mane and Pangi and previously Wemmbu and Zam

Mane with Flame and whatever chungus he decides to work with for the month

Clown with Kab and Mane and Flame at one point.

Bacon with Planet and Kab and Hannah

4C and his unknown number of loyalties to people who are most certainly not teammed and FOCUS and derap

Wemmbu with Derap and Mane and Flame and Bacon and Kab and Hannah all at one point

And then there's roshambogames who historically, time and again, will simply drop everything for mapicc, teammed or not.

Nearly every active member is marked by loyalties to people who are not teammed with each other. And nearly all of them will be actually upset if one of their loyalties goes against their other loyalties.

Which often leads to inaction because one person cares about a member on the opposing side so they will just stand to the side and let others take care of the situation.

And partially that's because what happened in season 5 was too much.

In season 5 the growing individualism pulled off a plot that was so shocking it drew both sides to the extremes and made everyone traumatized towards the classic teaming mindset.

Creating a mid season teammate switchup with inviting Jumper to the Abyss and inviting Pentar into a closer friendship with Gucci in doing the Abyss too, should have resulted in team unity where past relations were left to the side in favor of this new team, this unified goal.

And it was that utopia. The Void Ponies were one of the most wholesome and joyful teams (despite zam's grumpiness at times). Jumper and Pentar were instrumental in the whimsy and everyone participated as best they could to the common goal of voiding the world.

But it was all a lie for Jumper, holding her original loyalty to Minute (and 4c and Vitalasy) over this new loyalty.

And Pentar's loyalty to Jumper, their friendship before joining this scary new world, lead him to leave all bonds of friendship with the void ponies in that hole.

Both of them held teammates with people not on the same team. And in the end they chose one side over another.

Zam nearly vowed to himself to never get involved in a team project he didn't 100% love and has had trust issues to this day.

Mapicc also is jittery towards being betrayed, approaching zam all season like a wild horse who needs to willingly choose him and not imposing his own will on zam, it's been a big season of respecting how zam thinks and acts which is a whole separate post. and which is constantly evolving with whatever will happen with mawn. But Mapicc trusts precious few people and doesn't extend loyalty unless he's certain it will be reciprocated which is why we're in the situation where he refuses to team with atlas and only will team with zam despite both of them knowing he will probably kill derap more. But they don't want to Not be teamed so they accept this world where they're on two teams.

People are willing to be open with their loyalties and are cautious against delving too deeply into one team or another.

Teammate politics have become more and more and more complicated as the seasons progress. Whether that's simply because there's more access to the chaos with so many more streams, or the fading of the worst parts of the past in favor of the story that unfolded as seen through videos. Or wether that's simply the growth in old players as they're marked by every arc combined with the growth in new members as they learn to navigate in this historic world for themselves.

It's a slow story. One that gathers a hundred small interactions up only to release them with a trebuchet into one server-defining moment.

It is truly uncharted territory what all these disparate loyalties will lead to. And it's making season 6 so unique.
