dear 3 am, we have got to stop meeting this way
Tumblr media
part 2 of oh, it's you (jj maybank x shoupe!reader)
summary: bumping into jj two times in as many days? you can't decide if it's a blessing or a curse
cw: none
masterlist
part 1
Slamming your locker shut, you sigh and rub your tired eyes. Another night with barely any sleep was catching up with you now. There was no particular reason why you couldn’t fall asleep for hours, other than the general sense of dread that was sitting on your chest. With summer break around the corner, you had only a little time left to submit your short film for the chance to be featured at the open-air festival in November.
You have too many ideas, so little time, and your thoughts are scrambled all over the place. So, you figured you could skip gym class today and go to the library to try and make an outline of your project. You pull your hat over your eyes more, wishing the lights weren’t so damn bright. Not only feeling like shit, but probably looking like it too, you just keep your head down, focused on getting to your destination.
The universe must hate you, there is no other explanation to why the hell is JJ Maybank at the damn library right now. You just know the boy has never been seen there in all the four years of high school, so why the hell is he here now? Have you accidentally cursed yourself? Who is messing with your damn voodoo doll right now? Thankfully, he has headphones over his ears, and his eyes are closed. Trying to bring as little attention to you as possible, you pick the furthest desk from his and take out your notebook.
Well, too bad you have absolutely no inspiration at the moment and nothing seems to sound good enough for the festival. Your phone is full of clips and half-assed scripts that lead to nowhere and that you can’t freaking finish.
Urgh! Exasperated, you turn your hat around and rest your forehead on the desk, the familiar dread filling your chest again. How are you ever gonna leave this place if you can’t even do this thing you love right?
“Must be my lucky day, running into ya again.” There is that southern drawl, bringing you out of your anxiety-induced haze. The lights are still too bright, and your eyes feel like you have sand behind your lids. Blinking harshly a few times, you turn to JJ.
“Oh, hey. Didn’t think I’d see you here,” you say and immediately cringe. It seems you can’t talk to him without somehow offending him.
JJ, who doesn’t seem bothered by your statement, continues talking, “just waiting for Pope and John B.” He grins at you, his pupils just a little bit too big. “Don’t tell the library lady, but I may be a liiittle high right now.” JJ gestures with his fingers to indicate how little high he is.
“Your secret’s safe with me,” you motion, locking your lips and throwing away the key. His grin is so infectious you can’t help but smile too, even though your head is pounding and begging you to lock yourself in your room and turn off all the lights.
“I better go now - “ you say. “Whatcha working on?” says JJ at the same time.
“Uhh, a project for this film festival in the fall, but I am sucking so bad and have no idea what to even do and fuck, it’s a long story and you probably don’t even care.” You say all of that too fast, and JJ does that confused puppy head tilt, and all it does in turn is confuse you because now you have a different emotion in your chest that is not anxiety at all.
“I’m sorry, I have a killer headache, and I am saying nonsense apparently. I’m gonna go.” You gather your stuff as quickly as you can and start walking away from him for the second time in as many days when he grabs your wrist.
“Wait. Y/n, right?” You nod. “I have just the remedy for your headache,” he taps his front pocket, “just don’t tell your dad.” He winks at you, and fuck, you promised yourself you would stay away. But, at the end of the day you are just a girl and he is JJ fucking Maybank.
“Yes, please,” you sigh and realize he is still holding your wrist. JJ salutes you and tugs you out of the library. Once in the hallway, he lets go of your hand. You lightly rub the place his fingers were just a second ago, feeling their absence.
"Um, are your friends gonna mind that I usurped your hang out?"
"Nah, the more the merrier," JJ says with an easy smile. He starts walking toward the parking lot, where you can see John B and Pope in the distance.
"Yo, meet my new friend, Y/n." JJ does the handshake with the boys and you just stand there, unsure what you're supposed to do. You decide to just wave, even though it comes out awkwardly as hell. Your head still hurts so you can't even bring yourself to be bothered by it.
Pope speaks up first, "oh yeah, you're Shoupe's daughter, right? I'm Pope."
"Yep, that's me, nice to meet you," you say prepared for the usual spiel regarding your dad, but none of that comes. John B is quiet, but then snaps his fingers, "you're in my math class. I'm John B."
Honestly surprised he knows, you widen your eyes, "yeah, I'm usually in the back cause I have no idea what's going on." You try to shake your head to indicate you are making fun of yourself, but wince halfway.
You notice JJ looking at you with a somber expression on his face.
"Are you okay?" Pope takes a step toward you, kinda acting like he's approaching a wounded animal.
JJ jumps in before you can answer, "she's okay, we have a project to work on, see ya later guys!" He all but drags you away, and you can't do anything but let yourself go, waving to the boys.
After you two take a corner and are now at the back of the building, shaded by two huge trees, you ask him, "what was that?" You take off your hat and shake out your hair, trying to relieve some of the tension.
"I dunno, you seemed pretty on the spot there."
"Well, yeah, you put me there," you huff.
JJ bows his head slighty and glances up at you through his lashes. "Take this as a token of apology m'lady," he takes out the joint and presents it to you on the palm of his hand.
You look around the place before asking, "we're gonna do it here? What if somebody sees us?"
"Ah, what's life without a little danger?" JJ raises an eyebrow at you and puts the joint in his mouth. "It's fine, no teacher comes here and they can't smell it either."
His long ringed fingers expertly hold the joint and you are mesmerized by the sight of him inhaling. After a few seconds, he exhales through his nose, passing the joint to you.
You've never done this with someone, usually smoking alone somewhere. The nervousness gets the better of you and, of course, the smoke stings your lungs uncomfortably and you start coughing.
"Woah, you okay?" That question, again. You nod rapidly, the coughs gradually subsiding. You feel a hand on your back and register it as JJ rubbing gentle circles.
You wave a hand at him, "I'm fine. I swear this is not my first time."
"No biggie," he smiles wide at you. His pupils grow even more and you feel your body relaxing, feeling more at ease.
You spend some more time passing the joint back and forth and before you can stop yourself, you blurt out, "has anybody ever tell you you have the most magnificent eyes?"
"You think my eyes are magnificent?" JJ's look is inquisite and you feel naked in front of him again.
An idea forms in your head and you just may have found the concept for your short film. Without answering his question, you throw out one of your own, "do you want to be in my movie?"

IWTV rewatch
Season 1 episode 1 [In Throes of Increasing Wonder...] - part 2/2
- [Louis] "It bears repeating, I did not consider myself a homosexual man at the time" - yeah that was the repression talking. "I ended up embracing my sexuality" - oh did you? That why people still write you as an altar boy?
- [Daniel] "We're not here for me" - not yet, Danny, not yet... Your turn will come.
- [Louis] "I had never let myself to feel emotionally close to anyone, much less a man" - okay, this boy needs a thousand hugs. Who's volunteering? Never mind, outta my way, I'm volunteering.
- [Louis] "You could be a lot of things in New Orleans, but an openly gay Negro man was not one of them" - sadly I'm pretty sure the rule still applies in many parts of the world today. Oh, hey, another social commentary! Love those.
- [Louis] "I vowed never to return again. I shut that night out of my mind and turned my attentions back to life as it was before" - sure Jan. Meanwhile Lestat is premiering the yellow dressing gown of wallowing and depression.
- Aaaand it's been a month. Grace's wedding. She's so pretty. "Altar Boys Come Dancing Everyday For God" - excuse me while I go dying of laughter. But also, hey, y'all ready for Louis to lose all of his societal markers and all of his culture? That's gonna hurt. Another reason why making Louis Black is the best choice ever. There's culture here, there's community, and Louis' about to be cut off from all of that, the music, the dancing, the traditions and rituals. But also, if we consider book canon, the Creole community of NOLA and its ties with voodoo are going to come into focus later on. I don't think Rolin Jones will adapt Merrick, but still, it's there and it makes what happens in Merrick to Louis even more intense when you picture Creole Louis instead of white Louis.
- [Paul] "I think you should get married next" - what did I say about provoking the universe? One way or another everything gets manifested.
- [Paul] "'You think Levi loves her enough? You know, Grace needs a lot of love.' [Louis] 'I do.' [Paul] 'Do you think he's givin' her everything he's got inside of him?' [Louis] 'Mm-mh.'"
This. This little exchange is very, very crucial. Grace ain't the only Du Lac sibling who needs a lot of love. Grace ain't the only Du Lac sibling who needs their partner to give them everything they have. Now consider Lestat: does he love Louis? At this point he loves an idea of Louis, an ideal. Will he come to actually love the true Louis? Yes. Will it be enough? Definitely no. Why? Because he didn't give Louis everything, and that's what Louis needed. Now the other problem, because there is another problem, because the fault definitely does not lie only in Lestat, is that Louis cut himself off from loving, by his own words. Louis doesn't allow himself to love, and thus, doesn't allow himself to be loved. And Lestat, Lestat similarly does not open himself up entirely, therefore does not love truly. *big sigh* Gonna take a good century and more, but we'll get there.
- The shots of Louis and Paul on the roof at sunrise are gorgeous. Light's absolutely gorgeous. Don't know if it was shot on location or in studio, but that whole scene is bathed in warm lights, ethereal light, it's truly gorgeous.
- "'I love you Louis.' 'And I love you too, baby brother'" - exit Paul, pursued by his birdies. Others have written about it better than I (need to find that post), but that's the last thing that Paul says to his brother. Those are the last words Louis says to his most favourite person in the whole wide world. Understandably, that messes him up and he locks the words away deep deep down, buried where they can't hurt anyone else, because in Louis' grief and guilt, it's the words that pushed Paul to jump. Better not to say them and risk the ones he loves. Except you can't live your life and love people locking away the love. You need to get the words out to truly give them power. And that's Louis' downfall after all. He gave some words too much power that didn't need it, shouldn't have that power, and he took the power from some words that should never have lost it.
- [Louis] "That was the last sunrise I ever saw. Perhaps the kindest thing the dark gift has given me. I don't miss the sun, the reminders it carries." - yeah understandable. Do seek out some therapy tho.
- I appreciate how Daniel closes his laptop and follows Louis on the balcony. It shows the depths of his compassion, or even, empathy.
- Oh, hey, social commentary on the world of the 2020s, now. This show keeps on giving. [Louis] "This virus, it turned the world sideways" - yeah, well, perhaps not enough, 'cause look at us four years after/into the pandemic, not a lot has changed, has it? I think it needs a few more turns of the screw.
- [Daniel] "'I get it. I' m gonna die. They're gonna die. But not the vampire.' [Louis] 'The vampire is bored. The human was destroyed.'" - okay Louis you have got to stop hanging out only with Armand, it's not doing good for your psyche.
I love how vampirism corrects the physical aspects (within limits), repairs the broken and bleeding, but can do nothing against the mental illness. Born as a mortal with depression and anxiety? Too bad, that goes on as a vampire, and bad news everyone, now you can't even properly kill yourself! Enjoy an eternity with the parasite in your brain.
- [Mama du Lac] "You must have said something to him, Louis, to make him do that to himself." - we have a contender for Mother of the Year here, guys. Pretty sure she can compete against Gabrielle. The violence of the mother telling her oldest son he's at fault for the youngest's suicide. And now "Paul's in Hell because of you" GREAT GEE THANKS MAMA. I'm gonna go take a swim in the Mississippi.
- [Louis] "Lestat's ambush had disoriented me." - yeah, you have a stalker, baby boy. And depression. And a mother who hates you. And a dead brother. And the weight of being a Black gay man in 1910 New Orleans. That's. That's a looooooot. Oh, and your only friend Miss Lily got Lucy-ed. Babe you need a break and the story hasn't even properly started, lmao.
- "Bless me Father, for I have sinned. Grievously sinned. I'm a drunk, Lord. I'm a liar. I am a thief, Lord. I profit off the miseries of other men, and I do it easy. Drugs, liquor, women. I-I-I-I lure them in and grab what they got, Lord. I take daughters with no homes and I-I put 'em out on the street, Lord, and I lie to myself saying I-I'm giving them a roof and food and dollar bills in they pocket, but I look in the mirror, I know what I am - the big man in the big house, stuffing cotton in my ears so I can't hear their cries. And Lord, I dragged my family into this mess with me. I shame my father. I f- I failed my brother. I lost my mother and sister, and rather than fix it like a man should, Lord, I run like a coward. I run to the bottle. I run to the grift. I run to bad beds. I-I laid down with a man. I laid down with the Devil. And he has roots in me, all his spindly roots in me, and I can't think nothin' anymore but his voice and his words! Please, help me! I am weak! I wanna die!"
Sorry, I needed to put the entire tirade because jesus h christ, ALL THE AWARDS FOR JACOB. The voice quivering. The staccato of the confession, the rhythm of the repetition, "Lord". The crescendo, the way the voice quickens, the way Louis is shivering and spitting out the words as if they're razor blades hurting his throat as he speaks them. This man needs all the awards, now.
And also because this. This is the heart of Louis in the first part of his story. The grief. The powerlessness. The shame. The self-hatred. The religious turmoil. The fact that it's so easy for him to do bad things.
The parallel with Lestat, Lestat who was the pourvoyeur of food for his impoverished family back in the Auvergne, Wolfkiller Lestat who took on his shoulder the responsibility of putting food on his family's table even when his family never had a kind word or gesture for him, even when his family hurt him the most.
And finally, oooh, book spoiler, the "spindly roots" of the Devil/Lestat in him, the tentacles of Amel inside each and every vampire and how Louis was the first one to get free of this influence. Oh, the writers are clever. So clever. And this speech is so brilliantly written. And delivered.
- And finally Lestat the hunter. Lestat the killer. Lestat the monster. The monster with too many emotions.
"This primitive country has picked you clean. It has shackled you in permanent exile. Every room you enter, every hat you're forced to wear - the stern landlord, the deferential businessman, the loyal son - all these roles you conform to and none of them your true nature. What rage you must feel as you choke on your sorrow. The first time I laid eyes on you, your beautiful face, I saw that sorrow. I did not know how it got there or why it was so voluminous. I can take away that sorrow, Louis. I can give you that death you begged your feeble, blind, degenerate, nonexistent god for. But I can do it... joyfully. I can swap this life of shame, swap it out for a Dark Gift and a power you can't begin to imagine. You just have to ask me for it. You just have to nod your beautiful head... and say yes. I love you, Louis. You are loved. I send my love to you, and you send it back round to me. And this circle, this home we barely had a glimpse of... know it frightens me as much as it does you."
Oh, boy, Lords have mercy on me, a second absolutely stunning morceau de bravoure in the span of ten minutes, another epicness of writing and acting and delivering, just as many awards for Sam for heaven's sake, that was phenomenal.
And now onto the content itself. Just as with Louis, this is the heart of Lestat at that point of time, that which explains him - or could explain him, but we have to remember that those are Louis' words about Lestat's words. Louis' version of what Lestat said. But here we see, the loneliness of Lestat, his fear of being alone always. We see his one true big dream, to have a home, to belong, to be a part of something bigger than himself where he'd be seen, he'd be loved, he'd matter. The dream he achieves in the final books of the series, Prince Lestat, the dream that takes him more than two hundred years to reach. The dream he thought, felt, believed was possible alongside Louis. Except neither Lestat nor Louis were ready at this point. Because there is still so much they don't know. About themselves, about vampiric nature, about the world at large. About love and what love is, what love can be, what love should be, what love shouldn't be. Because yes, Lestat does love Louis. Fell first, as we'd say. But fell broken and twisted, didn't understand the nature of this love, didn't realize that you cannot love an ideal, an image, an icon, that you must love a real being with all their flaws and complexities and paradoxes.
And another thing is how at the start, Louis is hang up on his religious upbringing and its trauma, while Lestat rejected it all, or claims that he did. And then the steam inverses, and in the late 20th century (if we go by book canon), Louis's full on atheist and doesn't care anymore about religion (written black on white in the books), while Lestat is going through crisis of faith after crisis of faith (Akasha, the body thief, Memnoch...). They're not traveling the same Devil's road, and their roads are not joining together, not yet, not for a very long time, and all their efforts to make their separate roads one singular one will harm them more than if they hadn't done anything.

Hi I must say that I loved Tiffany's Headcanon in Love with the Married Guy.
So Can I Request A Part 2 With The Same Theme Of The Reader Being A Great Guy And Being Childhood Friends.
More In This Scenario The Reader Is Sad And Desperate Because His Wife Left Him And He Had A Dinner Schedule To Introduce His Partner To His Parents.
And he meets Tiffany again and asks her to pretend to be his wife But eventually he ends up falling in love with Tiffany and asks her to marry him and become his wife.
Please I love your work!
Hello there! Thank you so much for this request, I was happy to write some more for Tiff. Hope you'll enjoy these little headcanons <3
WIFE MATERIAL (Tiffany Valentine x male!reader)
Warnings: no proof reading, reader is sad and lonely at first, your family pressures you to get married and get children, mentions of rough breaks up, mentions of killings, mentions of sexual relationships, obsessed!Tiffany, manipulative!Tiffany, mentions of voodoo spells,
Life sucked. Relationships sucked. Family sucked.
You were not doing too well lately.
You had been very close to getting married with the woman you loved, you had even started to live together and you had planned on presenting her to your parents.
You were the last one in your family to get married and you were more than eager to get rid of the constant pressure from your parents who were always asking you when you would finally settle and give them grandchildren.
You thought you could finally be happy. You were actually pretty excited to get a wife and to take care of her, and to wake up everyday by her side. It sounded perfect to you. And maybe one day you would get a kid too.
But everything went down the drain, when your fiancée announced to you that she thought living with you was a mistake. She realised she didn’t think she was in love with you the same way you were with her. She also believed you weren’t perfectly matching and she wanted to move out.
You had been so close to getting what you needed to be happy. You weren’t a psycho so you let her go and she was grateful for that.
You cried all night, in your cold bed. The flat was now too big just for you and you were completely shattered. You didn’t know what was wrong with you for your ex partner to leave you like that.
You were feeling absolutely terrible and you barely managed to get up and go to work the next day. But you did well, because when you came back, late in the night, you stumbled into Tiffany Valentine.
She was your girlfriend in college until she left because of some guy… Charles, you believed he was called. You really were always the second choice… well the no choice at all actually.
You had never forgotten about her. She was the woman you loved the most in your life and you had tried to find her in all of your partners. In vain, of course, because no one could be as perfect as she was.
She seemed like she hadn’t forgotten about you either, because she instantly recognised you and her eyes lit up. She grabbed your arm instinctively, seductively.
“Hi, sweetface. I didn’t know you were still around” she purred
It was at this instant you got an idea. You looked her up and down and brightly smiled at her.
“Hey, Tiff. So glad to see you… It’s been a long time… Would you do me a favor?” you didn’t waste time asking her if she would agree to pretend to be your fiancée at a dinner with your parents.
She was completely taken aback by the offer. Soon enough, she was also looking you up and down, before smirking back at you. She came closer to you, entering your personal space as she licked her plump lips.
“You think I’m wife material?” she gently teased before winking at you
The truth was that Charles had broken her heart another time and she was an absolute mess. She just wanted to be happy, to be loved, to be taken care of. Was it too difficult? Charles promised several times he would marry her, but he never did.
It had been a long time since she had lost hope she would be anyone's bride, even if she already had got the perfect dress for the occasion.
You chuckled “Tiffany, you've always been wife material. I’m surprised you’re not married yet” you admitted.
She didn’t answer, her emotions all over the place after such words. Hope blossomed inside of her. She wouldn’t mind being your wife. She used to love you and she cursed Charles for getting her away from you. You were such the perfect man.
It was settled. She pretended to be your fiancée in front of your parents and she was the most perfect daughter in law they could hope for. She laughed at our father’s lame jokes, she complimented your mother for her outfit and the food, she was all over you without being embarrassing.
She lied about what she was doing in her life though. She said she was doing little jobs here and there, and mostly trying to help her community. You didn’t comment but you knew that Tiffany wasn’t the kind of girl who was “helping” anyone, or just herself and the people she loved. Your parents enjoyed her sweet little lies.
Later you tried to ask her about it, but she refused to let you know that she meant she was killing poor souls and assholes, and hence making the streets safer for herself.
She quickly got obsessed with you. She loved to play the act of the fiancée, and she definitely wanted to officially be yours. She seduced you in her bed, and took such good care of you that you completely forgot about your ex, as if she had never existed. Tiffany got you completely hooked and you were quite happy with the situation and yourself.
You were shocked when she told you she could be your bride. You asked if she was toying with you, but she quickly shook her head and started to enumerate all the good reasons to propose to her. You hesitated.
So she killed all the women you showed some kind of romantic and sexual interest. She manipulated your friends for them to like her so much that it was getting obvious to everyone that you were the perfect match. And she used her voodoo power and spells to make you fall in love with her even deeper.
You quickly started to need her as much as oxygen and she loved the constant attention very much.
You didn’t waste any more time and proposed to her during a romantic dinner and she faked being surprised. She instantly said yes, and put the ring on, admiring the beautiful diamond shining on her finger.
Soon enough you were both married and living together, like any other couple.
She continued her murderous way of life, without you knowing. In front of you, she played the perfect little housewife and you were fully believing it, like the whole neighborhood.
And more importantly, you both were very happy.

The Class's (and those around them) worst experiences with Vanessa Fathom
... the part 2 arrived quite quickly, didn't it?
Inspired by @booksrbetterthanpeople , @msweebyness , @imsparky2002 (those that, as far as I am aware) created the series, this second part is going to be all about Camille Duparc... aka, the fusion of Gretchen Wieners and Heather Duke, with a bit of Jenna Roland.
Again, a disclaimer: Some of her acts include: leaking private images of minors; ableist behavior, stealing, blackmailing and more. If you are easily triggered, be careful with what you are about to read.
Henri Dupain-Cheng
Spread fake news about the Bakery in the past.
But, her worst act was leaking private info and photos that Henri shared with Bastien (and Vanessa got access by going around his phone). This info was very personal, and she got to the point of leaking intimate photos (yes, of a minor!) on the internet.
(Decided to use this plot point after hearing many stories of leaked private pictures and how the victims were slut-shamed for it... victims who were mostly high-schoolers... society is trash sometimes).
Harmony Couffaine:
Recorded one of her anxiety crisis and edited so that she sounded like an obsessive yandere.
Always takes pictures of everytime she fails.
Clover Lee:
Besides helping Vanessa that one time when she cut Clover's hair, Camille never did anything to Clover... mostly cause she didn't have enough time to find any interesting secret.
Fabien Cabello:
Camille took pictures of some dolls that Fabien had with him, and accused him of using voodoo dolls against his classmates.
In reality, those were dolls he made of FNAF. Fabien also enjoys creative activities, like drawing, writing, and mostly sewing. He has a ton of plushies and sweaters that he made in his room.
Auster Beaureal:
She used clips of him talking about snow, and accused him of using drugs.
Sayaka Maizono:
Besides posting that photo of her dress torn into rags, she also accused her of using playback.
She also acts just like those journalists who, no matter how well a performance goes for an artist, always focus on her flaws, making Sayaka feel anxious about her own abilities.
Leon Kuwata:
Made some articles about him "cheating" during his games to ruin his reputation.
Chihiro Fujisaki:
When he struggled at Physical Education, she posted sexist articles, calling him "not man enough" and other problematic stuff.
Mondo Owada:
When cigarettes started to appear at school, she posted an article on why he was the culprit. He was almost expelled from school, but, Kyoko found out it was just a janitor.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
Spoilers for his akuma chapter...
But, every time he "fails" (like falling asleep while taking care of his subjects during test weeks, which is very rare), or is feeling more vulnerable (like, if he cries) she posts on her blog.
Hifumi Yamada:
Took photos of things on his room, and accused him of being a creep online.
Celeste Ludemberg:
Every time Celeste tells a tale that she took from an anime... Camille posts about it with fonts soon after.
Sakura and Aoi:
Just like Vanessa, Camille learned to not mess with them.
Makoto Naegi:
Every time his bad luck attacks, Camille is there to take a photo and post about it.
She even has a segment called "Makoto's newest disaster".
Kyoko Kirigiri:
She always struggled finding "interesting" secrets about Kyoko... until she found out about her daddy issues.
Kyoko seemed so unbothered by it, that Camille kind of gave up.
Toko Fuwaka:
Camille once spread a rumor that Toko didn't shower. A lot of students started avoiding her for weeks.
Yasuhiro Hagakure:
Tried ruining his reputation online by finding proof he is a scammer.
Byakuya Togami:
Camille has tried again and again... but she never found anything she could post about him.
He is too secretive and smart to show any weakness. It's her dream to find out any skeleton on his closet.

i haven't posted about any of the books i've been reading in a while so: i just finished 2 novels by tananarive due. i was familiar with her through her appearances in the horror noire documentary but hadn't read any of her published work until now. i can say i'm very glad i did, these were a solid couple of books and i should probably check out more.
the first was the good house, from 2003. i haven't read a lot of genre fiction novels from this time period specifically and i think i should branch out more in that. i went into this one knowing pretty much nothing, so it really felt like discovering something new. i'm in the middle of a twin peaks rewatch so definitely in "getting a lot of peaks vibes from this" mode right now, but when you read a supernatural horror novel set in a logging town in washington state it's kind of unavoidable. this was really good, with a very well-drawn small town setting and enough time and space to make every character feel like a real person, and a lot of the scary parts were legitimately effective right alongside the emotional parts. it's told in alternating perspectives, between the present with main character angela returning to her hometown after her son corey's sudden and inexplicable suicide two years ago, and the summer leading up to his death told from corey's pov as we find out what exactly happened. i found it pretty refreshing to read a story about kids messing around with magic they don't quite understand that turns dangerous not because the magic system is inherently evil, but because it's unpredictable and not bound to human laws and should not be attempted by non-professionals. due admits in her author's note at the end that she took some liberties with vodou mythology, but it still feels much more authentic and respectful than the majority of depictions of "hollywood voodoo" in genre media. since i really knew nothing going in (i didn't even read the summary on the inside cover, that's how hardcore i was being) i read the prologue and assumed it might be historical fiction, but it's not, it takes place in the contemporary year 2003. (i'd also just finished reading victor lavalle's lone women, which i may or may not devote its own post to depending on how much i have to say about it.) still, this is a town very aware of its history and characters who have to be aware of it because of who they are. you get the feeling in this book we're not far off from a time when magic and the supernatural were much more prominent in people's lives and this isn't something to be forgotten. i'll also say i was thinking as i neared the end that older horror literature (even just from a couple decades ago) is often more willing to go there and permanently kill off major characters, and then i reached the actual end and - you know what, i wasn't disappointed. i felt like we'd earned it, and i really liked all these characters anyway.
the second was the reformatory, which came out very recently, in 2023. right away i knew this was probably getting compared to the nickel boys a lot, due to its similar setting - a boys' "reform school" in early 1950s florida, notorious for the brutal abuse endured by the young, mostly black "students" (inmates is more accurate) and the many deaths that occurred on campus and were quietly covered up by the staff. due's author's note here is very personal and gets into some of her own family history, including a relative who died at the real-life counterpart of the school at the age of 13, and who the main character is named after. in this case, i absolutely cannot fault this book for giving him a happier ending. it follows 12-year-old robert stephens, sentenced to six months in the reformatory for kicking a white boy who was harassing him and his older sister gloria, as he tries to survive the school while regularly seeing ghosts (or "haints", a term i'd read often in southern-set literature but never considered distinct from your generic ghosts or spirits until now; it seems to specifically refer to ghosts of people who died untimely deaths and haunt the places where it happened.) meanwhile, gloria and her godmother lottie try to find a way to get robbie home, whether through legal channels or elsewhere. i knew more about the plot of this one going in, but i was still captivated by its developments. every character is again complex and fully realized, even the antagonistic ones; there are plenty of actively malicious adult authority figures here, but there are just as many well-meaning ones who genuinely want to help but are ultimately ineffectual for various reasons, and that felt like an especially necessary bit of realism. (even john dorsey, the crusading black lawyer due based on her own father, can't help despite his efforts, because the system is so stacked against them. they have to save themselves through any means necessary.) this one continues the theme from the good house of the supernatural being basically accepted as true by the main characters as just part of how the world works. as is often the case, children are better at seeing ghosts than adults, and it's presented that they know that ghosts are real, not that they just believe it to be so. the horror in this one comes entirely from the real, grounded atrocities committed throughout; the ghosts are simply there as part of the setting. (guillermo del toro's films, like the devil's backbone and crimson peak, tend to do something similar.) the emotional parts hit hard and the story moves along well for a fairly long book. i read this has been optioned for a miniseries and i haven't seen anything about that yet but i really hope they do it justice.

I know you don’t really like Mick’s solo output, but what do you think about Keith’s?
I have mixed feelings about it. If I were to rank all of the Stones solo musical ventures, it would definitely be Charlie > Keith > Ronnie > Mick. Which, naturally, was also Keith’s opinion on the matter:
Tumblr media
I’ve never been a fan of the Stones covers he did with the Winos, the tempos are always a mess and they drag.
As for the stuff that’s solely his, I think it’s a mixed bag. He’s genuinely very talented as a lyricist and I like the subject matter he tends to focus on, because it’s a lot about complicated and long term/older relationships, which isn’t necessarily a mainstay of mainstream rock. And I also enjoy his voice, he’s not Pavarotti or anything but he knows how to write for his own range and vocal quality.
That said, I feel like the music/band itself tends to be very hit or miss, and I actually tend to prefer the songs where it’s Charley Drayton playing drums instead of Steve, he’s got a lighter touch that suits Keith’s style better. I was at performance the Winos did at the Beacon Theater 2 years ago as part of Love Rocks NYC and for unexplained reasons (what I heard on the grapevine is that Steve and Charley had some kind of falling out related to Charley’s late wife) Charley wasn’t there. The choice of songs for the set kind of sucked and the replacement bass player was no good, but I don’t think that performance is probably representative of what they were like in their heyday in the late ‘80s/mid ‘90s. Still not thrilled with how much money I spent on a ticket for such a mediocre performance. Hozier and Mavis Staples were great, though.
His collaborations with Levon Helm and Tom Waits are both gorgeous and there’s some beautiful covers by him of Mingus and other artists floating around out there. It’s not *really* solo Keith, but for my money his best stuff in that realm will always be the songs he sings solo on the Stones records, particularly “Little T&A” from Tattoo You, “How Can I Stop” from Bridges to Babylon, “Thru and Thru” + “The Worst” from Voodoo Lounge, and “Slipping Away” from Steel Wheels. Also “Alteration Boogie”, even though nobody was ever kind enough to give us an official release.
Ironically, I listen to him most often when I’m exercising, especially running or doing boxing drills with a heavy bag. I will say that I have a special place in my heart for “Hate It When You Leave.” The lyrics are so him, of course, but it used to be a song that was perpetually on my playlist for nighttime runs in London, and I have many fond memories of listening to it while flying through the shittier parts of Shoreditch and Camden Town.

DnDoc, The Loch o' the Lowes #2 - The Ettrick Shepherd
Part 1
Previous stories: DnDoc, Coming Home DnDoc, Space Band DnDoc, A Man's a Man DnDoc, The God of Rock 'n' Roll
---
Once they'd all extricated themselves from their wetsuits back in the TARDIS, they climbed very carefully back onto the paddle board in shorts and t-shirts and took it across to the north side of the loch. If they hurried, they could grab dinner from the café in the lochside cabin before it closed for the evening. The Doctor also said he wanted to introduce the others to an old friend, though he was being sufficiently cryptic about it that Rogue didn't think it was going to be straightforward.
There was a bit of a queue at the café - the slightest sunny day in Scotland seemed to bring the population out in droves - so they decided to go statue first, food after. The Doctor took them across the car park, over a row of giant boulders at the boundary, then into a patch of long grass with a path mown through it. The path took them up a small incline then around the face of a low wooden wall. Rogue had been watching the ground to make sure his slightly tired feet went in the right places, but now he looked up at the enormous marble statue on a high, stocky column.
It obviously wasn't as tall as a magnificent column in the middle of a city or something - if it was it would probably hit the tree cover - but because you were standing right next to it, it felt mightily imposing. The marble figure on top was sitting on a marble rock, with a marble plaid thrown over his shoulder and an adorable marble dog at his side. On the sides of the column, which the Doctor gestured for them to follow him around, there were a few couplets of simple poetry in memory to James Hogg, the man depicted above.
Tumblr media
"He was a nice lad," the Doctor said. "Terrible liar, but earnest about what he cared about. But at the same time not cheesy. He was oblivious in some ways, but startingly sharp in others."
"What do you mean bad liar?" Ruby said. "Did he mess you around?"
The Doctor laughed. "Oh, he's definitely not an ex. We had an argument up in the hills about ghosts once. I was absolutely shitting myself because I kept thinking I could hear things, and he kept rolling his eyes and asking me if I was a southern tourist. I was also white at the time, kind of don't want to know what he'd have said if it happened now. Who knows, maybe it'd have been fine, but I could imagine the word 'voodoo' being used, and not correctly.
"No, what he lied about was his birthday. He tried to convince people he had the same birthday as Robert Burns, but this was like, categorically untrue based on something previously published. Same thing again with conflicting autobiographical details about when he started writing poetry, god love him."
Ruby chuckled, but Rogue was distracted. There was never baking heat in Scotland, but he'd been quite warm ever since he towelled off. Whereas now he was shivering. He turned around to face the loch - well, lochs, since from this angle you could see both the Loch of the Lowes and St. Mary's Loch, which was connected to it via a narrow stream, or as it was known in Scotland, a burn. He was sure he could hear some sort of foghorn, but surely there were no boats around; no boat big enough to have a foghorn could have fitted down that burn. It was a low hum he could hear, not unlike the TARDIS, and it was coming from the water.
He turned back to face the statue. The Doctor had been watching him, and he put his hand on Rogue's upper arm.
"Hey, you okay?" said the Doctor, rubbing his hand up and down.
It occurred to Rogue that was the second time the Doctor had asked him that in the past hour.
I just want to have a nice day out, Ruby had said, a holiday from monsters and gods and stuff. If Scotland doesn't work out this time, I'll never ask to go there again.
Presumably, she didn't actually mean that forswearing of Scotland forever more, but Rogue still didn't want to ruin the mood of the afternoon, not when he didn't have any evidence that anything was wrong. Mind over matter, motion over mind.
Rogue put his hand over the Doctor's. "I'm okay, just hungry."
"Alright, let's go grab some toasties," said the Doctor.
   "Sounds good." Rogue nodded.
They sat outside at a picnic table to eat their toasties and sip their tea. Rogue could have gone for some fish and chips, in all honesty, but the caravan-shaped café was charming and wildly convenient. Plus this ham and cheese toastie was delicious.
As the Doctor and Ruby chatted, Rogue kept hearing a buzzing echo. It was like someone on a video broadcast didn't realise they'd left their mic on so he was hearing the instructions and requests from a producer filtering through into some sports commentary or something. Except the content didn't concern programming schedules or pieces to camera.
Poor heartless man! And wilt thou lie
A prey to this devouring flame?
That thou possess not bonny May,
None but thyself has thou to blame.
He squeezed his eyes shut then opened them again, trying to shake the words out of his head but without anyone noticing.
O tempting spirit I beg of thee
These twisting arguments to desist
How dare thee bring thy heinous words
And compel this mind which pious ist?
Who were the voices talking to? Clearly not him. Whatever was going on was not meant to be overheard. His shoulders started to rise up around his ears and there was a sinking feeling in his stomach. Whoever this 'pious mind' was, he got the feeling it bloody well better resist or something terrible might be about to happen to 'bonny May.' More frighteningly, neither of the others had heard the voices. It was probably some fragment of poetry he half remembered, something his brain had dug out for him as a crisis response when he got scared in the water and when the Doctor started talking about ghosts. Gods, he was out of practice. He wondered if he'd even be any use as a bounty hunter at this point.
He looked out over the water, trying to hide his expression from his friends. Maybe he could just be a good tourist instead. He thought he saw a cottage in between the two lochs, but once again a blink took it away. He could find nothing solid to rest his mind upon.
He felt the Doctor's hand stroking his thigh as he and Ruby talked. Well, at least there was that. He took the Doctor's warm, strong hand and held it, waiting for the fear to pass and wishing he'd never gone swimming.
---
Part 3
The poem I'm referencing here is a ballad Hogg has collected and put his own spin on called Mess John. In the spirit of keeping balladry alive, the second verse is my own invention!

Is This The Most Dangerous Spirit Board Ever?
Tumblr media
Read the whole post and comment on what you think of this board.
Ouija Boards a spiritual item that is commercialize as a board game the whole family can play.
In my opinion this item can be spiritually and physically dangerous.
Their are some thing that beginners shouldn't mess with or even do even I won't play with this.
.1 You should never offend any spirits especially if it's spirits you are not a part of.
.2 One shouldn't mess with ouija boards because you don't know for sure what's on the other side of it.
Why? Because it's a playground for demons like Zozo, Mama and any other dark spirits. Playing with it you are inviting a something in to come through.
.3 No Pendulums. Like Ouija boards there are another way to contact spirits and you really don't know truly who you are speaking with. Despite what other people may say about this particular item in the hoodoo tradition We Believe that spirits can often tell lies, they can tell you some truth too to get in good with you because they like the attention.
Most religions even cultures like the Egyptians knew that as long as you speak the spirits name they will truly never die they will always be remembered so they will always be around. So they would do or say anything they need to to keep your attention focus on them. (Aka Zozo)
Now I did give a working a while back how to make a pendulum out of High John Root so you can contact and ask him questions you know who you're speaking too. But a Ouija board / Spirit board are not you do not know it's not a good idea.
So I was looking at a YouTube video and while I was watching I couldn't believe what I was seeing with this board.
Tumblr media
It's called THE TABULA MORTEM translation
(The Tablet Or Table To The Dead..)
On the inside the first picture you see is a black guy wearing a top hat, gloves, has a cane.
Tumblr media
Now when you open the board up it's your typical looking spirit board.
In the middle of the board you'll see a symbol the symbol is a vodou veve of Papa Legba.
Tumblr media
It also have letters and the alphabet arranged in a circle. The alphabet is backwards which is correct because because in the spirit world is supposed to be a mirror image then what we see.
It also have what they say is Cave Hieroglyphics these are real symbols written thousands of years ago but no one really knows exactly what it means.
There a little book on the bottom of left of the above photo to that has as wiccan passage on it.
Now it does come with a planchet to use on the board but get this y'all; The planchet doubles for a pendulum. But look y'all the planchet doesn't have glass in it and if you seen a Ouija board before you know it supposed to.
What? Because the glass is a window to look through to see the other side, it is of what separates us from this world and the spirit world. The glass make sure that the window doesn't become a doorway. Makes sense.
Tumblr media
Now this is what I believe is the worst part in the little booklet it says how to make offerings to the Lwa. (Vodou spirits) it's crazy because the booklet refers to the Lwa as a IT not spirits.
This board is disrespectful to voodoo or any African religion and is disrespectful to the people who practice other spiritual faiths such as paganism, wiccan, etc by having all these things mixed together.
Now what the guy said and I agree 💯 is that there maybe so many people that can get hurt playing with it. A board like this should never have a voodoo symbol, cave ruins that you don't know what exactly they are numbers and they all arranged in a circle with a planchette that doubles as a pendulum. That can be a combination of All Hell Can Break Loose.
Now we can really see why the Catholic church and other faiths are starting to train more and more exorcist because of stupid things like this.

watched this movie? doc? idk.. something called 'mondo new york' and man it was a mess. when i saw it i thought it was like a doc about the underground scene of the late 80s in new york, and it kind of is, but its not really a doc. its just a string of scenes from new york in the late 80s, which in itself sounds pretty good, but its kinda lame. like you start off just following this young girl, and she is the viewers kinda guide. where she goes we go. but she never talks or even talks to other people, we are just kinda watching what shes watching. in theory its sounds promising, but it just ends up being boring. and i think they wanted to be like provocative and edgy or something, so we see some fucked up shit like not one, not 2 but a few animal deaths, or maybe its fake, i dont know. either way its not interesting.
we start off and shes at some gritty bar where a woman is performing a song, and at first im like ok this is interesting, but theres no narrator or any commentary, its just a record of this entire song of this persons performance. and its not good. then its like the girl guide just walks away and shes at some kind of maybe poetry slam or something, idk... this weird guy is at a mic and is talking about weird shit. ive been fast forwarding by this point. certainly through the song in the scene before, but this was also bad. this guy eventually takes out 2 live mice from his pockets, and then bites their heads off. it looks kinda real, i mean the mice are 100% real, but just before he bites both their heads off, he does drop his hand out of frame. so that made me think it was more staged than it kinda looked. personally i think its fake. but thats not the last animal death.
then she leaves this poetry thing, after the guy sets off fireworks in his shirt or something dumb. ohhh so edgy! we then go to a punk bar? skin head bar? idk its a room full of white dudes moshing around to punk music and this girl is there. i was also fast forwarding at this point. for no real reason. she then leaves.
she then is at washington square park (daylight now) and theres a comic with a fairly large audience, so i stop it and hes doing some bad comedy. speaking in like "white" waspy voice. i fast forward and stop and hes saying how black people are always late or something, and then saying how puerto ricans have lots of children. its the routine of the pre-internet hack comedian, but he was getting alot of laughs from the crowd. this part was real long! so i fast forwarded thru most of it as he was doing the jewish voice.
she then ends up in like a burnt out building and someone is shooting themselves up with drugs, and this was no joke. very clearly you see blood fill the syringe and he pushes it back. i was sick. there was some talking, but i didnt bother to listen. again i fast forwarded.
shes then talking to some poetry guy in the street, at night now. ummm. oh she ends up in some basement where theyre doing some kind of voodoo something. whats that religion called? santamaria? or whatever. idk all i know is that the guy bites the head off a chicken. this was 100% real, cause those wings were a flapping and blood was squirting and that chicken didnt have a head anymore, and it was in his mouth. i was sickened. but that was not even the last dead animal. ann magnussun shows up and does some bit i was fast forwarding thru, but it ends in her in some field where theres a dead horse and shes beating it with like a stick or something. get it... beating a dead horse. it was so lame, and trying so hard to be idk provocative? interesting? edgy? idk. i was bored, and eye rolling.
but that wasnt even the last animal in the movie being hurt. we also end up in a cock fight. but this thankfully didnt end in a dead animal. the 2 chickens were absolutely fighting, but they didnt have the razors on their claws. the one chicken was pecking blood out the head of the other, but they do make it a point to show both chickens alive at the end of the scene. so whatever
there were other scenes of other things happening, but nothing looked interesting enough to stop fast forwarding. until the end. the final song i stopped and it was actually pretty funny. i tried looking for it on yt, but couldnt find it. it was a drag queen singing a song, i think was called fuck you, and it was kinda funny. he had a sorta fred schneider kinda voice, so it was kinda entertaining. the rest of the movie left such a bad taste, it was a little hard to get over it lol
admittedly out of the whole run time, i prob watched only 35-40 mins of it. so maybe i not the best judge, but if youre reading this, then you know if this is something you care to even watch. i thought it was boring most of the time, and its attempts to be provocative or shocking were really kind dumb and not at all interesting. wow a dead animal... very edgelordy. the only sort of positive i can think of, is the sort of b-roll scenes of 80s new york. kinda cool to see the city and the people back then. i guess.

Movie #77 watching every zombie movie ever. Zombi 2 (1979) is a hot mess of great and terrible. It was a stand-alone return to classic zombie stories of voodoo and secluded islands and such, but then it was adapted into a sequel to Zombi, the Italian title for Dawn of the Dead. It's no more a sequel though than Troll 2 is a sequel to Troll. It's not even a sequel at all, if anything it would be a prequel showing how the zombie uprising started.
Anyway, so some whites go to a island and the voodoo people (who we never see) are doing magic to raise the dead. The zombies act like modern ideas of zombies: flesh-eating, slow, rotting, stupid. However, they're not AS stupid as normal. They hunt like animals, waiting and pouncing when the time is right (at least when the plot calls for it), and I quite enjoyed that little difference.
The plot. The major problem with the film. The characters do things that don't make sense, although not until late into the movie. It's mostly normal until we see several people just stand there and wait to get eaten instead of running away. Also some of the zombies keep their eyes closed. I don't know why.
The great parts of the film - why some people call this one the best zombie movie - the zombie makeup, the practical effects, and the interesting ideas all but make up for the silliness of the acting and writing. Just look at this boy. Compared to Dawn which came out one year prior, this is perfection. The gore was a little more indulgent than I like, but at least it looked real.
Also a zombie attacked a shark. A real shark. Like a guy in a zombie costume underwater with a real shark. It was awesome.
The score by Fabio Frizzi rocks my undead socks. A lot of the scenes were really elevated by the music.
The best part about this movie for me was that it seemed to have nothing in common with Dawn of the Dead. The worst part was that it had a lot in common with those classic 1950's zom-B movies. I hope the sequels to this one hold up.

we did have good pizza and sang a song from Les Miserables at our party, we also did a gift exchange and i got a hot coco + coffee + mug set!
i relate with the bowling ego! i won a game of mini golf awhile back and felt like a pro golfer loll
last year my top three songs were all 5sos, 1 was voodoo doll, 2 was lost in reality, and 3 was heart break girl! this year my top three were Cocaine Jesus by Rainbow kitten surprise, Its called: freefall by Rainbow kitten surprise and Stick season by noah kahan! although, Northern Attitude is probably my favorite Noah kahan song!
yes txt was so amazing! it is difficult to get tickets tho lol! most people stay up with the page refreshing to get first pick!
ugh 5sos sounds so fun!! my sister went to a one direction concert when she was younger with 5sos as the opener! and niall wow that sounds amazing!!!
my week has been pretty good! ive gotten all my sisters presents and some of my brothers, still working on the rest though, although i did get one of my theatre friends a couple gifts today so im excited to send them to her! me and my mom and sister will finish our Christmas shopping in the next couple days! I actually love christmas shopping, especially getting a coffee or something beforehand to shop with hehe

You had spent the last couple of days baking a thousand Beignets and now you feel exhausted, but you had promised Virginia to be at her masquerade and you kept your promises. Virginia had been so giddy when you met her the other day and so sure that Prince Steven would fall madly in love with her. You were not so sure. Not that Virginia was not lovely, but did love at first sight really happen? Maybe Prince Steven would become Virginia's husband in the future or her friend might make an ass out of herself as she goes after her dreams at becoming a real princess. You hoped for the first and if you could you would try and make sure that the last one did not happen. Your costume was one of a simple farm girl because it was a costume you found in your closet. No need to spend money on a new costume. The money needed to go to your dream and nothing else. You knew Virginia would not be happy with your costume, but that she would get over it.
You packed everything together and walked out to the car that Virginia's father, Robert, had sent to pick you up. Robert was a sweetheart and you knew that he was worried about you living in your neighbourhood, but you had refused to accept his help at living somewhere else. You needed to take care of yourself. It was a thing about pride for you. He had even offered you move in with him and Virginia at the mansion, but it was too far to your jobs from there. You greeted the driver and he helped you put everything in the car and then you were off to the party.
When you arrived at the mansion the preparations for the party was in full swing. Virginia was walking around all the servers in a beautiful pale pink ball gown and she had a tiara on her head that glistered in the light. It didn't surprise you that she was dressed as a princess.  “Oh, Y/N,” Virginia said as she hurried over to you. “I am so glad that you are here.” She gave you a big hug.  “Where else would I be,” You hugged her back.  “I am just so nervous,” she admits and drags you towards the snack table where servers are plating your Beignets.  “You have nothing to be nervous about,” You say and squeeze her hand. “You look beautiful, the part looks fantastic and you are going to meet a prince. What more can you ask for?” Virginia looks away and it sounded like she sobbed.  “What is wrong?” you ask and she turns around. You can see the tears in her eyes.  “I need to tell you something…” Virginia starts saying when her father comes over and interrupts. Virginia looks away from her father and blinks away her tears.  “Y/N, you came,” He laughs and pulls you into a hug.  “Hey, there Robert,” you laugh. “Or should I call you King Robert?” He laughs and realises you from his arms. “I am not the King until tomorrow,” Robert winks at you. “Then I will just wait until tomorrow,” You smile at him. Virginia is quiet, just standing there which was not like her.  “Still nervous, my dear?” Robert asks his daughter. She smiles at her father and shakes her head.  “Not now that Y/N is here,” she answers and lay her arm around your shoulders. “Although I wish she would have a more eye-catching costume on.”  “You know the reason behind my clothes,” you look down at your feet, feeling your face heat up. You hated this.  “I know,” Virginia pulls you a bit closer. “I just wish you would let me spoil you sometimes.” You make a waving gesture with your hand and they drop it. They know you well enough to know what you have said if you had continued talking. You wanted to be independent and not live on your friends. Yes, you could probably ask Robert for a loan for the restaurant, but it just felt wrong not to earn your own money. Robert and his family had worked hard for generations to have the riches they had now. You wanted to do that as well, without shortcuts.  The band that was going to play at the party arrived and Virginia says she needs to deal with them, but that she would be back soon. “I think it is time that you change before Virginia comes back and scolds at you,” you smirk at Robert. He laughs a big belly laugh.  “You are so right, my dear Y/N,” Robert looks around. “Save me a dance later on.” You promise and he walks up the stairs. You twirl around looking at all the pretty lights and feel better than you had in a while. Being with your friends always helped get your spirit up.
The party was in full swing around you. People were dressed as pirates, mermaids, ghosts and famous people. Robert was dressed as Julius Caesar. You were looking for Virginia because you had not seen her for a while. During the party, men had asked her to dance the whole night, but she had still not accepted a single one, that wasn't her father. She was no were to be seen as you walked around the party. Just as you were about to go ask Robert if he had seen his daughter you saw her standing away from people in the shadows. You hurried over. “Virginia, I been looking for you,” You say as you come closer to her. Her eyes were watery and there were watermarks down her cheeks. In her hand she had a paper tissue that has been torn and twisted. It was clenched in her hand. “Are you all right?” you whisper out. You knew Virginia would not want anyone to see her like this.  “No. I am not. I can’t believe this. I am stood up by a man I never even met. I am stood up again,” Virginia brings the hand with the tissue up to her chest, not looking at you. “Maybe he will be here soon,” you try and make her feel better.  Trying to figure out who could have stood her up in the past. It was not something you had heard about before. Virginia shifts her eyes up to the sky. “Please, please,” she whispers out as a tear falls down her cheek. You quietly dry it with your thumb. It did not feel like she was wishing for Prince Steven.   “Virginia, I am sorry,” you say and take her hand. “I don’t think that will work.” “It always worked before,” Virginia said. “Or almost always.” She looks away from your eyes. The heartbroken look on her face over the wish that had not come true, that you wondered what it could have been? There goes a whisper through the party and someone announces that Prince Steven of Maldonia has arrived at the party. Virginia’s whip around with wide-open eyes. You can see her father walks over to the prince. She dries away her tears with her hand and looks at you. “How do I look?” she asks you and you give her a smile. “Beautiful as always,” you answer honestly.  She gives you a big smile, but it does not really reach her eyes. She walks through the crowd and to her father and Prince Steven. You stand in the sidelines and look on as she bows to him and he kisses her hand. You had to admit he was gorgeous. You were not surprised when he walks out on the dancefloor with Virginia. They looked beautiful together. There is a small tug in your chest. You wanted to find someone to share your life with, but you wanted to be a successful first. Because who would want you as you were? A waiter with hardly any money that worked all the time. You did not have time for dating and falling in love not now.
Virginia was still dancing around with Prince Steven an hour later. They looked beautiful together and you would believe that Virginia would have a big smile on her face, and she had a smile on, but it seemed fake. To think of it, Virginia had not been herself the whole night and if she thought back to her friend had been acting kind of different for a long time now. It was as she was putting on a happy front for everyone to see. Her smile did not reach her eyes and her laugh was just a tone of.  You turn around to walk over to the snack table. A group of men are talking loudly to the right of you and one of the men are eyeing you. It makes a cold shiver go through your body. It was as if he thought you were a part of the snacks served at the party. You take one of your Beignets and take a bit. It melted on your tongue, which made you really happy. It was a recipe from your father and it was going to be on the menu on your restaurant. You decide to take a glass of punch so you make your way over to the bar, but the men that been talking loudly start walking towards you, so you step to your side, but still one of the men walk right into you and you can feel a cold wet sensation over your upper body. It felt sticky as well.  “Look where you are going,” you mutter at the partygoer that just dumped a whole glass of punch over you.  “Sorry, I did not see you,” the man smirks and looks down at you. “Go along and give me a new glass of punch.” You ball your hands into fists. “I am not here as a server, I am a guest.” you grit your teeth, “Could have fooled me with that outfit,” the man snicker at you. You take a step forward. You hated when people looked down on you. Virginia hurried up to you and the man.  “Y/N, come along with me now,” Virginia says and drags you away from the man. You don't see but she makes a gesture to two of your friends to escort the man from the party.  “Let’s get you out of these wet clothes. I have the perfect dress for you in my room,” Virginia guides you into the mansion and up the stairs. You don’t fight her.  “I am so sorry for that moron down there,” Virginia says as you walk into Virginia's bedroom.  “It’s okay Virginia,” you look down at the floor. “Maybe I should just go home.” “Absolutely not,” Virginia says determinedly. “I need my best friend here with me tonight.” You nod and smile at her. “I saw you dance with Prince Steven,” you say and she looks down at the floor. “He is really something else,” Virginia mutters.  “Not what you had thought?” you tilt your head to the side. “I.. I just..,” Virginia starts and walks over to one of her wardrobes.  “You know you can tell me anything,” You say and walk over to her. “Please tell me what it was you wanted to tell me earlier.” Virginia shakes her head.  “Not tonight,” she says and starts going through her closet. “I just can’t tonight. Can we talk about it after Mardi Gras?” “Of course,” You say and she hands you a beautiful light blue shimmering dress. “Just know I am here for you.” She nods hands you a tiara and begs you to get changed and come down to the party. You agree and she leaves you alone.
30 minutes later you stood dressed in the shimmering light blue dressed and a tiara that hat looked like it was made out of diamonds and silver. If you knew your friend it probably was. You were ready to join the party again, but something was holding you back. You look at your reflection in the mirror. Had you ever been dressed in something so beautiful before? You sigh and walked over to the balcony doors and opened them and stepped out in the moonlight. Maybe Virginia was right? Maybe all she needed to do was wish upon the brightest star in the sky and all her dreams would come true. It couldn't hurt to try, could it?  You found the brightest star and closed your eyes and wished for your restaurant. After a while, you opened your eyes and nothing was different. How long until you knew if it worked? “Excuse me,” you heard a tiny voice. You looked around but saw nobody. “Down here,” the voice said and you looked down at the floor. You let out a yelp. On the floor sat a green frog. Was it the frog that had talked? Can frogs talk or am I going insane? I really must be tired, hallucinating. But then it happens again. The frog opens his mouth and says:  “I am Prince Steven of Maldonia, but you can call me Steve,” the frog bows to you. You let out a scream and run into Virginia’s room. The frog hops after you so you take up the closest thing to you, which is Virginia’s favourite book when they grew up. A book full of fairy tales. “Wait, don’t hit me,” the frog screams out. You stop with the book above your head.  “Give me one good reason why I should not.” The book is still over your head and you are ready to toss it at the frog. “I will not hurt you,” Steve said with his hands raised up in the air.  “I don’t believe you,” you narrow your eyes on the frog. “And how can you be Prince Steven? Virginia is dancing with him right now.” “I don’t know who that is, I am the real Prince Steven,” Steve says still with his hands in the air. “Please, I just want to be a human again. I am not going to hurt you, I promise.”  “Well, that is not something I can help you with,” you slowly lower the book and place it on a table. Because what could a frog do to you? Steve jumps up on the table. He looks down at the book. “Maybe you can,” he says and stamps on the book. “What do you mean?” you raise an eyebrow to him. “Kiss me and I will be human again,” Steve winks at you. “No, never!” You take a step back, scrunching up your face. “Oh, come on, Princess” Steve begs. “Just one little kiss, it won’t kill you.” “I won’t kiss a frog,” you cross your arms over your chest. “If you kiss me I will marry you,” the frog Steve told you looking up at you. “I don’t need a prince or a knight in shining armour.” You say and raises your chin in the air.  “Then what do you need?” Steve asks and takes a slow hop closer to you. A sigh is heard in the room. Should you really tell a frog your problems?  “What I need is money to open my own restaurant.” You look down at the floor, feeling defeated. “If you kiss me, I can get you all the money you want,” the frog answered, with what looked like a grin. “I am rich.” He looked almost proud if a frog could look proud. “So all I need to do is to kiss you,” you muttered. “Kiss a frog and get all the money I need.” The frog nodded. “This sounds almost too good to be true, but what do I get to lose?” You crutch down and pick up the frog. The frog is slimy and kind of gross. Are you really going to kiss a frog? Yes, you are. There was always soap and water to wash your mouth after. After placing Steve on the dresser you close your eyes and inches your mouth closer to the frog. Just as your lips are going to touch you open your eyes and see the frog up and close, so you jump back.  “Juck, juck, juck,” you get out and when you look at Steve, he looks almost hurt. Can a frog look hurt? You don’t say a word, just steady yourself for the kiss. You close your eyes and promise yourself that you will keep them closed this time. You go down for the kiss and when your lips meet there is a light and then everything becomes black.

Nica!chucky x fem!reader
Tumblr media
Right now you were sitting in the pouring rain on the porch of Tiffany valentine. After being in asylums with nica, going with chucky to insure she doesn’t die then getting betrayed by Tiffany and going to jail 2 months after you turned 18 ,you lied and said that nica forced and lied about the doll after SHE killed everyone.
Just what they wanted to hear.
And you didn’t feel bad about it because you knew that nica had turned her back on you. You had stayed loyal for years then when you met in another asylum after 4 years she had believed that it really wasn’t the doll. Called you out of your name and lead you on.
Tiffany was away and nica was asleep. It was the perfect time.
You had snuck in through the window and went to her and Tiffany’s shared room.
You look at her peaceful expressions. It had sadden you how you enjoyed her looking so nice and peaceful after everything she caused you. If only I would’ve never did that much for her. You thought.
Then got straight to chanting
You made sure to keep it at whisper. You were bringing back chucky. Well…the part that was in nica at least.
“…damballa…awake!” You had the heart with you so it made sure it would work.
It’s not working!
you frustrated and instead of chanting “ade due blah blah blah” again and decided that it still might not work….even with the heart
You groan
“Fucking cunt” you whispered breathing out.
Just then there eyes snap open.
You gasp
“What…what the fuck! Is going on?!” Yep…that’s definitely chucky.
He then looks at you dead in the eye. You can’t help but blush and look down.
“She cut off nicas limps a year ago” you said starting to look up.
He tilts his head to the side less confused and more angry now.
“She…what?!” He then looks down.
“Oh you gotta be fucking kidding me” he says with a sigh.
“I-“ “what the hell has happened?!” He cut you off.
“Well after your bitch of an ex fiancé got me sent to jail I came here to get my revenge.” You say with obvious hate in your voice.
He then looked shocked. “Oh I’m gonna kill her slow” you smiled. “And so you mean…I’ve been like this for over a year?” “Yep” you say with an eye roll.
He started chuckling. “Wow! You know- I-I I really gotta give it to her! That bitch done really really got me!” You knew he was ready to kill her as soon as she walked through that door.
“Well first…you need a new body. Or fixed limps” you said with a sigh sitting your cold, wet ass on the bed.
He sucked in heavily. “How?” You knew just the answer. “There’s a voodoo spell. All have to do is find limps like nicas and sew them back together. Then with the voodoo spell it will immediately heal them and make them fully functional.” You said with a smirk.
He once again tilted his head to the side.
“Well well well…look at what sweet little y/n has planned.” He says with a chuckle.
“Where are we gonna find the body parts?” He asked. “Tiffanys bitchy neighbors.” You said smiling.
“Mhm well ok” he said smiling. “Well then let’s not waste anytime because we don’t know how long she’ll be gone but I suppose probably the whole..well till in the middle of the night sense it’s 5 and she’s busy being Jennifer Tilly and nica was already asleep and ate so I think in the middle of the night.”
You honestly didn’t know but you hoped.
He smiled. But a dangerous smile. “Good girl.” You blush and then went off to the neighbors house.
You had also saw a note that wasn’t for nica but someone else Tiffany forgot to mail to. Probably her neighbors.
“Yup…definitely back in the morning” you sighed out
You came back 5 minutes later with the wife knocked out then got to working which only took 15 minutes.
Then you went up stairs with the wife bleeding out on the ground and most likely dying.
(But you didn’t care)
You made it up the stairs with the body parts and laid everything down like stuff to make sure no huge messes and got ready having chucky in a chair as you kneeled in front of him.
“Sorry. This is really gonna hurt.” You apologized and he just sighed.
“It’s ok.” He nodded his head.
Then you started getting to work completely focused and made sure to attach and Stich on the limps perfectly. You had been done at 7 and it was less bloodier then you thought.
Way faster then you thought to.
And instead of cleaning it up you just immediately started the ritual.
“Shit!” He yelled. “What?! What’s happening?” Yiu asked. Then he calmed down.
“It worked.” He whispered then slightly lifted his leg.
It worked? It worked!
“Yes!”
He then stood up stretching his arms and you decided to get up from your kneeling position.
He turned around to you after looking in the mirror.
He put his hand on your cheek.
“Thank you doll”that made you blush so hard
“You’re welcom-“ then all of a sudden…he kissed you! Before you could even really register it or kiss back,he pulled away and smirked.
“W-well I need to get this all cleaned up” you gulped.
He looked over you. “Ok n/n” he then plopped back down on the bed. You quickly got all of the stuff and went downstairs.
As you made your way down the stairs you knew you heard him yell “you know you killed her right!?” You just sighed because you knew and just continued.
As he was up there you had tiny discussion between surgery about how you were gonna get back at her to start off.
He decided to make a phone call.
It ringed three times “hello?” Tiffany spoke.
“Hiya tiff.” Chucky said amused.
“There’s- there’s no way! NO!” Tiffany exclaimed.
“Oh yes but there is. And with the help of my little precious y/n here…I’m back.”
“That bitch!” Tiffany said with venom.
“Ah ah ah! I wouldn’t say that if I were you.”
“Well…what are you gonna do with them chucky?!” She questioned.
“Well let’s just say…you ain’t never getting ya bitch back.”

It's been awhile since I last posted. Thought I would make a life update post.
The summer is finally creeping up on us. It's May now and the warm weather is in full play. I'm so happy!! In a different place these days. Well... kind of. Until I'm put into a stressful situation. But for the most part, my depression has been a little less intense and I'm just feeling.... good. In a good mood today.
Going to St. Croix for my birthday in June and for aunt Barbaras memorial. I didn't know her very well, but I feel happy to be able to be with family during the occasion. About to meet a lot of cousins! I hope I will be able to remember names. Been trying to budget shopping for clothes to go. It hit me last night that I have tons of tees and some tank tops. I guess I mostly need comfortable bottoms and shorts to wear. GAINED WEIGHT!! Nothing old fits anymore. Going to hold onto some things though just in case my weight comes off. With my lifestyle habits, I have no idea when that will be happening. Just ordered a jump rope in hopes to at least get some cardio in since I hate running. Going to the store later today in hopes of getting healthier food. I do nooootttt know how to eat healthy apparently. I eat a lot of quesadillas and carbs so.... Going to try and cut back and eat salads. I don't even think my salads are healthy lol but better than canned food and mac n cheese.
I started vaping and 80 bucks later, I think it's time to quit. Obviously that's the smartest idea. Idk.... I'm trying not to smoke weed anymore and it gets hard when I'm use to smoking everyday. So whyyyyy a vape?? Nicotine is worse but it doesnt trigger the voices I hear. Weed does. I need to learn how to be sober and happy. I just.... get bored?? I'm awful!! Lol
Work is on hold for right now. I've been on break for now 2 and a half weeks. Still have money in my account but obviously that isn't going to last forever. Just trying to keep myself in a steady mood while I'm back to doing nothing. At least the sun is out. I can sit in the backyard and take in my surroundings. Trying not to drink at the moment as much because of my weight. But I dont need to always drink in the sun, it just makes it fun. Go figure. Anyway, I need to start applying for jobs again. I've been holding off because 1) I'm suppose to hear back from Sol for when they need more help again 2) St Croix is in two weeks and I feel like it would be hard to start a new position and then leave for a week 3) I'm still going to try and get a job with Premier Press and Q told me to wait and apply the end of June, beginning of July.
Therapy has been going well. I enjoy my sessions for the most part with my therapist. She's very sweet and I think I have made large progress since first starting. August is going to be a very large moment for me because it will mark the 1 year anniversary since being hospitalized. I told my mom that it's important to me. I want to celebrate some how. August will never be the same for me. I still have things that I need to clean out of my room from my voodoo craze. I should do that today.... it would feel good. It's hard looking at the mess in the corner of my room but once it's gone I think that I wil feel better. I really did some damage on my belongings and Ashley's. I will never fully recover from my actions. Scars. But I am working on moving forward everyday. I went to Mackenzies bridal shower yesterday and being in that community was SO HARD. I made it though. It's just weird being around parts of her world because the voices weirdly attached to it and it's humiliating to be around her. She was beyond sweet to me though and it felt good celebrating her for the evening.
Well.... thats kind of all the update I have. I'm going to try and check in with myself here more regularly. Cheers to bettering my mental well being, being strong and powering through all of this and getting better. I got this! Life keeps going on and is too short to keep beating myself up. Lot's of self love (minus the vaping BS).

Hello! I've been working my way through Follow the Lights and I was wondering, would you be able to go more in depth of how magically adept each Link is and who is most and least affected by the portals/shine magic? I find the incorporation of their inherent magic such a cool element in the story along with the soulbonds the boys share with each other.
I absolutely would LOVE to! Three things to note before I begin , though:
First off, I've got things mentally split between active magic and passive magic. Active magic is a spell, like Hyrule's Life or Fairy spell and Time's Nayru's Love. This is a direct use of magic, and requires more skill, power, and awareness of one's magic to use, hence why only stronger magic users can generally perform it. Passive magic on the other hand is using a magic tool, so pretty much any 'item' in any of the Chain's arsenals that have any kind of cool property. Fire rod, Wind's baton, Twilight's sword. Still needs magic to power, but the shape of the magic is already built into the tool, so the Link is just acting as fuel, basically. All this to just give myself a ranking system: Links who use active magic are stronger, more self-aware magic users than those who only use passive magic.
All the Chain is naturally more magically gifted than the average person, but they vary a lot in terms of power and skill between them.
Secondly, the portal that brought the Chain to Wild's Hyrule in FtL is not indicative of /every/ portal they go through; something went wrong, some kind of clash between Hylia's time and space voodoo and Wild's Sheikah tech or whatever, and the Chain got caught in the backlash. So most of them would be perfectly fine in the portal travels (except Four and Roolie, poor beans), but THIS ONE was an outlier
Which brings us to the third thing to tie those together: The reason magic strength/sensitivity matters is because the magical shockwave of that collison between portal and sheikah tech did more in bigger magic pools and affected those more attuned to their magic more harshly. Hyrule and Time pay the most attention to their magic, so when something messes with it it's way worse for them than say, Legend, who's really magically strong but pays less constant attention to his own magic.
So, as if that wasn't already an information dump, here they are in order of weakest to strongest magically, and how they are/were affected by the initial portal vs. shrine travel with Wild:
1)Twilight!
Twi is, so far as Links go, a magical dud. He has some items that are magical in nature - the shadow crystal, some armor, and his hawk eye mask to name the most important ones- but none of them require any kind of skill from him, at ALL. Literally they just need him to add magic, no shaping it, no directionality or nuances. Even the dark crystal is more of a curse than anything. So the initial arrival at the shrine for him was nothing, like at all. Did he even pass out? Probably not. He never got teleported by Wild's slate, but if he /had/ it would have knocked him on his ass for the greater part of the next 24 hours, which would have been vindicating for Four and Hyrule especially considering how utterly unruffled he usually is by the portals.
2) Warriors:
Wars is better than Twilight so far as shaping his magic goes, but not by much. Part of why he likes the fire rod so much- he can control the flame, but since its /fire/ if he flubs it up it doesn't matter, who cares as long as the monster's being roasted? He's not too terribly phased by the initial portal dump into Wild's Hyrule since he's barely aware at all of his own magic usually, but he's a bit woozy afterwards. The shrine teleportation is gonna knock him RIGHT out though, and he's gonna be pretty useless for a good few hours after he wakes up, too.
3) Wind!
Based on what little I recall of his games, Wind doesn't actually use any spells, but I still give him active magic points for being able to see and interact with ghosts in Phantom Hourglass, and the Wind Waker may be a passive magic item but it's pretty involved so far as magic control would go, so he gets added skill/power for that. Still ranks pretty low on the power scale, but he's young yet and that factors in as well. The portal wasn't very fun for him, though his youth had some to do with that -sick for awhile afterward, poor little guy- but the shrine teleporting wouldn't be great either. He'd pass out for sure, and everybody would FREAK OUT. Do it twice? Fever for sure
4) Sky
He and Wind are actually tied very closely, but I'm gonna give Sky the benefit of the doubt being much closer to the Goddess' blessing as the Chosen Hero and her future husband. Not that he himself is very powerful or skilled, but he does radiate power, even if its not exactly his to use very freely. He's not super magically sensitive on a conscious level, but he does get weirdly accurate vibes, so there's some unconscious 'listening' going on for sure. The initial portal arrival knocked him out and made him nauseous, and the shrine teleport did much the same. He's about as balanced as you can get for reactions to the two means of Links getting whacked around Wild's Hyrule.
5) Four
Four's got the FourSword and the Shadow thing and the Minish transformation as well as a whole slew of magical items, so he gets boosted to middle of the pack. He's pretty skilled but very specialized and not overly powerful magic wise, which is why he's not ranked higher. The portal threw him for an absolute LOOP but the Colors are always the real confounding factor there, which is why his reaction was so very bad even though he's only ranked at number 5. Shrine teleport -when he's not already hypothermic, hehe whoops- wouldn't be so bad: very refreshing, for once. Worth the literal headache if it means not being split into four broken pieces and smashed back together HYLIA LOOKING AT YOU
6) Time
Time has some actual spells -one for each goddess- and all of those masks as well, each with its own ability. This makes for a pretty strong and flexible magic user in him, and since magic tends to grow with age (by virtue of experience and use if nothing else) then that only boosts him higher. The initial arrival via portal sucked quite a bit for him -boy did it ever mess with his magic and he HATED that because of how in control he usually has it- and the fact that he got a particularly zappy shrine didn't help at all. Wild taking him somewhere via shrine would leave him staggering a little but otherwise okay
7) Legend
Look I know nothing about his games but he seems very /magical/ so honestly basis or no I'm putting him HERE on the list because I stan a mage Legend. He's got all the tools and knows how to use everyone of them, and he's also got the most know how, with Time as a close second for theoretical knowledge and Hyrule having the most instinctual knowledge but that's VERY useless when it comes to explaining something, though interesting to discuss and puzzle out from Roolie's weird descriptions (and boy do they). The original portal jump would take him out at the KNEES, so here's hoping there's nothing too dangerous around while he's passed out and recovering. A normal shrine jump wouldn't be so bad, but what actually happened in FtL was that since Wild was so low Legend donated his own magic to power it for both of them, which is why he was so whooped and Wild was surprisingly not completely down for the count despite the shape he was in before using the slate again. yes, Legend did this on purpose. No, Wild has no idea
8) Wild
speaking of, here he is! I'd like to reiterate that this is in terms of strength, not skill, or else Wild would rank lower. But in terms of raw amount, he's got everyone except Hyrule beat. He had the powers of the Champions (active magic, though they were the ones wielding it through him so he loses points) and his own time manipulation in the form of bullet time. Not to mention his constant use of the slate, which has built up his stores by a crazy amount. He didn't go through the portal, but if he did it actually wouldn't have affected him that badly, considering it was his own world. So no snap-back, no weird magic that messed with Rule and Time so badly, because it would have been familiar to him. We all know he can take the shrine travel like, twenty at a time usually, but eh, it's attuned to his magic so he's getting major bargains so far as magic consumption goes on that.
9) Hyrule
Its probably not a huge surprise to find out that Roolie's the strongest, magic wise, at least in the FtL universe. I love the idea that he's part fairy, and he's got the largest arsenal of actual spells in his games. He's got far fewer magical items, but because of the active magic he's still way out in front. This is why he got wreckt on the initial portal landing in wild's world. His fairy heritage didn't help, but he almost went into toxic magic shock or whatever and despite what he thought, could have died if the Great Fairy hadn't been nearby. He didn't do so hot when Wild teleported him with the slate, but to be honest that was more the overuse of magic and lingering heat exhaustion then anything else. Were he at peak strength, he'd brush a shrine teleport off with Wild's usual ease.
This is messy and idk how helpful it is but if you want clarification feel free to ASK
I've got no problem at all continuing to ramble on~
