This is the stunning, historic Goldsmith-Godchaux House in New Orleans. It was built in 1859 and was renovated and returned to its original layout of a single family home with 2 guest suites. It’s currently for sale for $2.550M. And, it’s pink!
Tumblr media
It has the typical shotgun look, but the porch has lovely columns, b/c it’s a mansion. The 2nd level has a balcony like most of the larger homes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s something you don’t usually see in a shotgun style home- wallpaper. It has a true Victorian look.
Tumblr media
The main sitting room clearly had a wall taken down, so now it’s an amazingly large, double fireplace space.
Tumblr media
The wallpaper and colors are gorgeous.
Tumblr media
Check out this ceiling. The realtor says these are frescos, but it’s wallpaper.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3 doors, all different styles, in the keeping room. Look at the striped wood floor.
Tumblr media
What a great dining room- love the fireplace. It could fit a much grander table.
Tumblr media
It also has a beautiful ceiling.
Tumblr media
The kitchen remodel is wonderful.
Tumblr media
This bedroom was left completely original and has a marble fireplace.
Tumblr media
Updated bath en suite.
Tumblr media
It looks like they left the bedrooms intact. They have beautiful fireplaces and that old New Orleans ambience.
Tumblr media
This room in the back was reno’d and has giant windows for enjoying the garden.
Tumblr media
The home is very large- on 3 levels.
Tumblr media
The 2nd level houses one of the guest suites. This is a sitting room (they must’ve had some long term guests.)
Tumblr media
The suite also has a dining room.
Tumblr media
And, a full kitchen. (Even a dishwasher.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This floor also has an original bdrm and a new bath.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the 3rd fl. is another guest suite. It has a sitting room.
Tumblr media
And, also a great kitchen.
Tumblr media
Plus a nice large bedroom.
Tumblr media
And, this unfinished space that the owner uses for storage. The pot belly stove is so cute, though.
Tumblr media
The terrace for the 2nd fl. suite.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The gardens include 2 ponds.
Tumblr media
Plus a porch and patio.
Tumblr media
And, a pool. What an incredible house.

How I went from bracing myself to super hyped in 2 minutes about the new Haunted Mansion movie I was expecting to hate, for how good the very introduction is
Just listen to that bop and you'll partially understand what I mean. What a great way to start a HM movie

Sheesh I'd had this as a draft for almost four months now sorry :/
Originally I wasnt going to do backstories for the PatF characters until the Tiana show came out but they keep pushing it back so what the heck.
Mama Odie Backstory
Real name is Ozigbodi
She was born in 1729 to enslaved parents brought over from Ghana, when New Orleans was still under French rule
She was born with a condition that caused progressive blindness
Her mother passed down to her in secret the practices of their ancestors, which came to be known as voodoo.
At the age of 16, she was able to escape slavery and found a home deep in the bayou, where she truly began her life as a priestess, helping those in need who crossed her path
Over her long life  she had many adventures, both mundane and magical. She helped slaves escape, crossed paths with such legendary figures as the pirates Jean Lafitte and William "Blood" Gracey, did a service for the mysterious Tia Dalma for which she was granted her seeming immortality, learned of the existence of other realms such as the Everrealm, taught a young Madame Leota her trade and even married and had a child at one point.
This child would found a line that eventually culminated in the birth of one Andre Facilier, who Mama Odie taught for a time before realizing the boy was attempting to use his power for dark means and cutting off his teaching, which unfortunately only spurred him into making a deal with some of the dark loa of The Other Side

Maison Vitry is an elegantly decaying historical mansion in New Orleans was an airbnb, but I couldn’t find it.  It’s one of my favorite NOLA homes. It was built for freed black woman Louise Vitry, and her French consort, Archille Courcelle in 1855.
Tumblr media
The care and love that has been poured into this home to restore it to her original glory is just wonderful. There’s nothing I like more than elegant beauty in decay.
Tumblr media
The front sitting room.
Tumblr media
Front parlor. You can see the closed plantation shutters thru the windows, but look at the patina on the wood and the peeling plaster.
Tumblr media
This is called the rear parlor.
Tumblr media
It’s got just enough haunted vibes to make you feel like you’re not alone.
Tumblr media
The original dining room is on the main floor.
Tumblr media
The upstairs hallway.
Tumblr media
The kitchen is on the 2nd. floor right off the hall.
Tumblr media
The bath off the kitchen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Main bedroom.
Tumblr media
Drawing room.
Tumblr media
Lovely screened in porch in the back of the house.
Tumblr media
Beautiful garden.

And I fear for what we might get back eventually.
