As we all know, Kaz brekker is now Besties with the king of Ravka (AKA the ruler of the bigger nation of their world). So theoretically, Nikolai could turn up at Pekka's door and just be like "you leave them alone! If i hear you have upset any of them I will send my armies to hunt you down" and put them under royal protection

In June 2013, @lbardugo’s SIEGE & STORM released about 2 weeks before my 15th birthday. All I wanted for that birthday, as a teen with no driver’s license or income just yet, was a ride from my Dad to get the SHADOW & BONE sequel signed. This was well before I had to rush to get a PAID TICKET to one of Leigh’s almost-instantly-sold-out signings. I think there were 10 people there. Just as many years later, as season 2 drops on Netflix (now incorporating the Crows crew, too!), I get to see the adaptation teenage me was practically BEGGING for, proof that a good story and relentless dreams can take you anywhere. And it makes me smile more than ever when I see the opening pages of my 2013 hardcover. “To Laura—Happy birthday! COLD

You felt like throwing up. The dinner that had just entered your stomach, making your body feel warmer in the winter air was about to make its exit, leaving you cold again.

Not that he hadn’t already done a fine enough job with that.

Walking in there, unsuspecting, seeing what no one should see. Seeing him with some girl, someone that wasn’t you was harrowing, but eye-opening.

Ravka’s king wasn’t honest, and Ravka’s queen was heartbroken.

Was this how his mother felt? Would you become cold like her? You had already felt the ice, the rage, seeping into your bones.

Locking yourself away in your old bedroom, the one you had before you moved into his, you continued your sprint until you crossed the room into your bathroom. It was still the same, you thought with a note of sarcasm as you hunched over the toilet.

Was it on purpose? Had he predicted that this would happen?

You had hoped it was so you could show future generations after you where Ravka’s ruler came from, a relic.

But, no, you realized. It was a fail safe so you’d have a place to go if he got caught. This probably wasn’t the first time.

You retched again.

“(Y/N)?”

Go away.

“(Y/N/N), please. Please, open the door.”

No.

“Please, (Y/N), I know you’re in there.” You could hear the door knob jiggling. The desperate jiggling of someone who wanted to defend himself, only to hurt you more later.

“Leave, Nikolai,” you droned, no emotion present in your voice.

His heart dropped.

“Please, (Y/N). Please. Please, just hear me out. Please.”

He didn’t mean it.

He didn’t mean it.

He just… he made a mistake, one that may have been repeated, sure. But this would be the last straw. This would have been the last time because he loved you, not her.

Tears fell from his eyes. “Please.”

The door opened, your eyes cold, the slightest bit of bile remaining on your chin.

“I asked you to leave, Nikolai. I will come to your room to collect my things later. I ask that you do something else while I’m there.”

After you closed it, the door somehow felt frigid, more stiff than before.
