Princeton University is on the verge of promoting a professor who participated in the occupation of a campus building that disrupted university operations and led to more than a dozen arrests, according to an email reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon.FreeBeacon

The university has recommended that the classics scholar Dan-el Padilla Peralta, who along with 13 anti-Israel student protesters stormed Princeton’s historic Clio Hall in April, be promoted from associate to full professor, pending the approval of the university’s board of trustees. Peralta already has tenure, but the promotion would make him eligible for university leadership roles, including deanships.

"I'm sure you will want to join me in congratulating Dan-el on his promotion to a full professorship," the chair of the classics department, Barbara Graziosi, wrote to her colleagues on July 18. "This is still 'unofficial' news, because the Board of Trustees will have to rubber stamp the recommendation made by the committee that oversees promotions, but I was told I am allowed to share the news internally and do so with glee."

The board is all but certain to accept the recommendation, professors familiar with the matter said, given that the group signs off on virtually all appointments. Princeton and Peralta did notrespond to requests for comment.

The promotion comes as Princeton’s peer universities have taken a soft-on-crime approach to the unlawful and at times violent protests that have rocked campuses since the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks. The Harvard Corporation this month reversed its decision to withhold degrees from 11 students who led an encampment in Harvard yard, one of whom is a Rhodes Scholar set to attend Oxford University next year. Other schools, including Northwestern and Middlebury, ended their encampments by negotiating with protesters and acceding to many of their demands.

At Princeton, Peralta played a leading role in the most disruptive protest the campus had experienced in years. He and another professor, sociologist Ruha Benjamin, joined 13 students in occupying Clio Hall, the home of Princeton’s graduate school administration, as 200 additional protesters cheered them on from the outside.

Police eventually warned the occupiers that they would be arrested if they did not exit the building. Peralta and Benjamin did so, but the students did not.

After a chaotic effort to stop the police—at one point the crowd surrounded a bus where two of the protesters were being held—all 13 students were arrested while the professors who had encouraged them escaped without sanction.

The showdown followed a four day sit-in in the university’s McCosh Courtyard, where several Princeton faculty members, including Peralta, had delivered remarks. Though the sit-in relocated to another part of campus after the occupation of Clio Hall, it was allowed to continue in its new location for over a week.

A classicist who argues that "whiteness" is inseparable from classics, Peralta is perhaps Princeton’s most prominent scholar-activist.

He spearheaded a faculty letter in 2020 that called on the university to give minority professors extra pay and sabbatical time—compensation for their "invisible work," the letter said—and is a vocal supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, which calls for an economic boycott of the Jewish state.

During the sit-in in April, Peralta also proposed a faculty resolution granting amnesty to "students and other university affiliates involved in peaceful free speech and assembly for justice in Palestine." The non-binding resolution passed narrowly in May and condemned the university’s decision to discipline the students who stormed Clio Hall.

Unlike Harvard, which promised harsh sanctions before walking them back, Princeton was lenient from the get-go: A university spokeswoman announced in May that the students were unlikely to get more than probation.

Trick Or Treat? (Daddy Fluff)

Storyline: Your favorite time of the year has rolled around once again and It was time for the kids to beg strangers for candy.

Characters: Shang Chi x Reader

Notes: HAPPY OCTOBER 1ST YALL! I will try to post some more pregnancy fluff, I get a lot of comments/requests and higher views on my Shang Chi pregnancy series. I don't blame yall! I die of cuteness writing them.

Shang Chi reached his hand into the bowl to retrieve a piece of candy. You smack his greedy hand away.

“We have to save some for the kids first” You place the bowl of candy next to the front door. Shang Chi huffed at you and pulled you in by your waist.

“Well can I at least get to have this piece of candy?” he smiled before lowering his lips to meet yours.

“Ew gross!” your eleven year old daughter groaned. You smiled at Shang Chi and wiped your lip gloss off his lips. You walk over to your daughter to straighten her head piece

“You ready to go? Did you grab your candy basket?”

“Yes!” she proudly raised her arm. “And do you remember what we talked about?” Shang Chi asked. She sighed and rolled eyes.

“don’t go past the red mail box at the end of the street and always hold my brother’s hand” Your five year old son stood next to your daughter with excitement in his eyes.

“Candy!” he beamed. Shang Chi smiled at his son before giving both his kids a kiss on the cheek.

“They’ll be fine honey” you reply while adjusting your son’s costume. You take a quick picture of the kids before sending them off down the sidewalk. Shang Chi stared at them with a worrisome look.

“You can’t protect them all the time,” you gently said.

“I know,” he whispered into the autumn air.

“We got a lot of candy! I don’t think mom is going to let us eat all of it tonight” your daughter exclaimed. Your son looked up at his sister holding her hand tightly.

“No, we need more!” he shouted.

“ We went to almost every house on the block plus dad said we can’t go past the red mail box on the corner of the street.”

“Awwwwh but we still didn’t get enough snickers” he looked at his bucket of candy.

“Well I guess one more house wouldn’t hurt” She looked back over shoulder as if she felt her parents watching her.

“We can just go to this house then come back ok?” her brother convinced her.

“Fine,” she confirmed. They walk past the red box and over to a white plain house that seems remote.

“Doesn’t seem like anyone is here” your daughter wondered. They ring the doorbell waited for a response.

“Let’s go back home” she said. They turn their backs to begin walking away when all of sudden the door cracked open slightly.

“I have candy” a raspy low voice lured. The little girl gripped her brother’s hand a little tighter and turned back to approach the door.

“What do you think you’re doing?” a big stern voice spoke from behind her.

The little girl turned her head startled to see her dad standing over them. “W-we were just” your daughter stuttered.

Shang Chi's face was pierced with rage and his eyes locked onto his daughters.

“Go” he pointed toward the sidewalk watching his children drag their feet past him. Shang Chi glanced at the creepy cracked door before following right behind his kids.

You watch your family come through the door with different expressions on their faces. Your daughter ran upstairs to her room and closed the door shut. You looked back at Shang Chi’s angry face.

“What happened?” you asked. Shang Chi explained to you what he saw while you pulled off your son’s costume.

“Honey, just go talk to her, maybe if you explained to her why you’re so protective she might understand” you advised. Shang Chi sighed sharply and ran his hand through his hair. He knew you were right, but he couldn’t help feeling frustrated from her stubbornness. Shang Chi went to his daughter's room and watched eat her candy on the bed.

“You shouldn’t eat so much candy before dinner sweetie” he softly spoke.

“You’re always telling me what I can’t do,” she snapped. Shang Chi looked at his daughter realizing she was a reflection of himself. He sat next to her on the edge of the bed.

“I only say all those things to protect you,” he replied .

“But I’m a hero just like you dad. I don't need protection” she responded. Shang Chi chuckled and pulled off her scarlet witch headpiece.

“You are a hero baby but heroes have to follow rules too, so you have to listen to your lead commander” Shang Chi joked. His little girl smiled and leaned her head against his shoulder. “I’m sorry daddy” she sincerely said. “It’s okay love.” Shang chi kissed the crown of her head.

“Now let’s go eat dinner Ms.Wandavision” Shang Chi poked at her costume while hopping off the bed with his little girl close behind.
