besides the anti-feral drug (which is theorized to be something else), what are your thoughts on how the Fallout tv show Buffed the Ghouls?
Sorry for the delay! I wanted to take a bit of time on this. I’m not sure if the ghouls are necessarily buffed. They seem to be for the most part the same, albeit there’s the dependence on the drug and there seems to be more of a chance of ghouls to decay/breakdown overtime if they can’t get proper care. For example, Roger has a full chunk of his skull showing. Without the drug, overtime, it seems like they start to lose themselves like Roger and Martha who needed to remind themselves of who they are. Pretty heartbreaking not gonna lie :/.
Tumblr media
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR FO4/FALLOUT ON PRIME
Roger brings up that Cooper has outlasted everyone to which Cooper responds that he’s just always been good with money so there was, at one point, a community and overtime they became feral. Cooper does look healthier than the other ghouls who seem much paler and have their skin pulling away. When we finally see Lucy’s mother in the final episode, she is mostly skeletal and missing an arm and has probably been that way for years. I know a decent bit of damage would have come from the attack on Shady Sands but it’s also been many years as well and there could have been ongoing deterioration despite Moldaver’s best efforts. She could have gone feral soon after and may have been unable to be further treated.
Tumblr media
How the ghouls turn feral reminds me of Rachel and Oswald the Outrageous from the Nukaworld DLC. After the Great War, they were turned into ghouls by the radiation and, overtime, some of their friends began to deteriorate and become feral. They describe it as a type of “affliction” and Rachel heads out to find a cure but ultimately concludes that ghouls are doomed to go feral eventually and takes her own life when she, too, begins to deteriorate. Maybe the cure she was looking for would have been something like the drug in the show.
youtube
I don’t think we’ve seen as of yet whether radiation cures or promotes healing in ghouls in the show. In regards to Thaddeus, I’m not sure if he is necessarily becoming a ghoul since the serum the snake-oil salesman gave him immediately healed his foot without the use of radiation and he also healed after being shot with an arrow. The salesman mentions that he has “serums that will make you grow an entire new foot.” Once Thaddeus takes the drug, the salesman is in a hurry to leave and even remarks that radiation “isn’t a thing to worry about” anymore. Some people have been saying it could possibly be the healing factor serum and that he now has that mutation, which is a possibility but I’m a bit skeptical of the salesman acting the way he did if that was the case. I actually like Thaddeus so I am a bit worried though with what clues we do have, it may be more likely that he could be turning into a super mutant of some type. FEV can have some regenerative properties depending on the strain and it could be that it’s taking a while to work…but we’re going to have to see what ends up happening in Season 2. I hope he’s okay though :(

I dunno if you already answered something similar but I got a question about your Swapout AU..
What about the DLC companions, Porter and Longfellow? I would ask about their respective DLC's, but i understand thats probably a bit too much. v(-_-)v
I have for porter gage actually, he's swapped with preston! I bit of an odd choice I know, but I have my reasons. I was actually thinking about this last night and came to the conculsion that if I swapped the two of them, then their asociated groups would be swapped as well. So sturges, mama murphy, and marcy and jun long are now raiders in nukaworld and...i forget their names except mason but they're settlers now. Mason takes mama murphy's place but instead of the sight he can "allegedly" talk to animals.

Also, like, even for the raiders that are portrayed as 100% evil and that it's right to kill, in fallout 4, they still like have things you can sympathize with, there's characters who hate having to raid in order to survive, ones who love each other as family and are willing to sacrifice anything to keep each other alive,
The games, seems pretty clear, raiders are people whose lives matter as much as anyone else's, they're just hostile and hurt people to survive, so you have to fight them when you encounter each other.
I wish there were more raiders portrayed the way the khans are, the nuka world raiders are surprisingly unsympathetic compared to other raiders in the series despite you being encouraged to side with them.
Actually I know this is getting long but that's, like a note I hadn't thought about before, the only "raider" groups the players can side with outside New Vegas, are significantly more evil in their actions than the ones you're forced to kill, the slavers in the original fallout, the pit raiders, and the nuka world group all do horribly cruel things yet you're able to support them, unlike those who have fallen on desperate times and are fighting for survival.
I cant find where I was talking about it but yeah it does feel like base game Fallout 4 does make a bigger effort than the other bethesda games to make raiders sympathetic. After all, they have a lot of voicelines were they just talk to each other and sound very humanised, the one raider grieving a fallen friend for example. However, they are still immediately hostile, which says to me that Bethesda didn't Actually want to humanise the raiders. Actually, I suspect that these were supposed to be jokes on Bethesda's behalf, that you were supposed to laugh at the silly raiders being normal people and/or grieving at the graves of their friends.
I don't really have any evidence for that but that's just the humour the rest of the game carries. The funny way bodies are positioned etc
And you're absolutely right about the nuka-world raiders, as much as I did have fun with the DLC and enjoy Gage, it was pretty obvious that he was bethesda's first Reall attempt of explaining how a "normal person" could end up a raider, not including the mess that was The Pitt. But nuka-worlds set up in itself is just total nonsense. No one would be travelling there to trade because they made no effort to make it make sense like with how traders like the Legion because its less taxes and safer roads, ect
I'd even be willing to say that the og Khans from fo1 make more sense then the nukaworld raiders, they're not exactly sympathetic but you can at least understand why they act that way. The world ended less than a hundred years ago and things haven't recovered at all, the world is desolate and dangerous and nothing grows and there's no hope for the future, Garl tells you that and that's the reason why he and the Khans take things and do whatever the hell they want. Like. You can put yourself in that perspective I feel like a lot better than like........... the Disciples are soooo sick and twisted and love BLOOD and they only have ONE rule DONT GET CAUGHT!! idk I can just imagine which toxic mindset is realistically easier to fall into and its not the one that sounds like its from a video game

airing out my fallout 4 grievances
its just so White! there’s so few black people it’s unbelievable. there's only like 8 black characters with names/personalities that I can think of off the top of my head, 4 of which are actually developed (you can interact and have conversations with)
are there any black people in the institute other than x6-88 and unnamed scientists or synths? i mean the institute is WHITE it’s SO white (which I guess goes with the shoddy underground railroad/slavery theme but I mean come on)
im not even getting into DLC but NUKAWORLD literally all the raiders are white, (not that there're many characters to begin with in that dlc anyway)
like why is hawthorne the only black person in diamond city
I also have issues with the asian representation but I digress
fallout 4 is just so empty man that’s the root of the problem i think, like its main feature/ingenuity is the ability to create/build settlements which is great i think it’s really fun BUT they should have invested more into their settler characters if they wanted it to actually be compelling
like all the original settlers should have names - like at oberland or tenpines, the settlers that originally spawn there should be characters just like at abernathy farm - that way it’s more interesting when you’re actually helping them out as the minutemen - AND they actually become minutemen faction members, we’re really lacking as a faction I want just as many characters as the brotherhood (at least 11 not counting dead), railroad (at least 10 not counting dead/story-setting), & institute (at least 16) actually i want More because as it stands there’s only SIX minutemen faction members and THREE of them are non-interactable (--which actually becomes four if you clean Mama Murphy of her chem habit--) I just think it would have been nice to actually see the faction grow by adding the number of characters to actually interact with
but then there’s also the problem of the settlements still being very empty (comparatively to pre-established & non player settlements--Diamond City, Good-neighbor--) because for the settlement building feature they had to give up the number of pre-established (character rich) settlements (quest-givers) which makes the game condensed to certain areas and leaving the rest of the map Very devoid of life other than enemies
but then why not develop their enemies further?
like the quests are so very go to [location] and eliminate [X], just a very empty dungeon game
like why not try to actually communicate & elaborate on main game themes through quests? what exactly are they trying to communicate with their game? what am I supposed to come away with when i finish the game? i guess that’s the problem with 4 allowing you to play after the Ending unlike in New Vegas & 3, like you’re stuck in it with eventually just the radiant quests keeping you going and the characters just aren’t strong enough to support that system, in my opinion that’s the root of my dissatisfaction with fallout 4
i was so happy to be able to interact with npcs when i was playing fallout 3! like i can interact with every generic rivet city guard to question them! i was so excited. why can’t i do that in fallout 4? a game where it might actually be of interest for the character to question the city guard for clues (like when helping solve cases for/with Nick Or Uh, Idk... looking for Your Son...?) also like imagine if you could report people for being synth spies/replacements feeding into the witch hunt hysteria of diamond city (actually doing something with the set up from Piper?)
the text/dialogue interface is probably the critical reason why the game sucks so much but of course this was the sacrifice made for a voice acted player-character i just don’t think this feature is worth it when it absolutely AXES the writing and limits the quality of the game! like it makes the player character so BLAND having only 4 options of speech, like where's the spice? like even when you're doing like an 'evil' playthrough & siding with the institute or being a raider or helping the brotherhood like you're doing it so Nice, like let me be a fucked up asshole if I wanna be! this is where people are getting the notion that 4 isn't 'a fallout game' or is an imitation of one, like it's hard to measure up to the writing of new vegas & etc. when you're crippled by your own game mechanics lol
anyway I'm saying all this as a person who loves fallout 4, i just wish it was better lol

Why on earth does the Wiki and searches about NukaWorld claim Preston becomes hostile if present for Taken for a Ride or spoken to after the player becomes Overboss??? I’ve played the entire DLC twice now, different PCs, different saves, regular and survival, and I took Preston both times for the DLC??? I never even got a ‘disliked’ from the man, except for being too forgiving to Harvey. He loved a lot of my sass at the Raiders?? And if I talked to him just would say I’d shown him I’m one of the good guys/repaid my trust in him. I mean, I’m sure if you agree to go Raider and like, kill settlers and shit. But I completed most of the questline short of taking over settlements or hurting innocents (took over the park, turned on power, etc) first save, and still completed grand tour and home sweet home on survival, before Open Season. I romanced the man in the overboss office yesterday before starting my raider killing spree. He never doubted I was just scoping out the place, which I was.

goddd everytime someone disses the fo4 DLCs all I think about how in Nukaworld they included a missing/dead old lady who left behind her cats without food and cry
or that you can surpass a boss by telling him his wife died trying to find the cure and that she left this for him to find because she loved him

you know what always makes me cry?  when someone reminds me that evan,  that side character in the nuka world dlc,  is a dedication to an actual fan that died named evan.   imagine being immortalized as that sweet dude on the outskirts of nukaworld that gives you a recipe and some free loot.

Well, at least I did like burial at sea. I feel like it even made the main story of infinite actually feel like it mattered. I suppose I at least feel ok with the game overall now.
Still, must say that the original bioshock is the one that I enjoyed the most. It was just something about the flow and pacing of that game that I liked.
Also... holy shit I just finished 3 games and a dlc long enough to be called it's own game too. Ngl pretty proud of myself for that. Ain't often I can say I finish games... and now I did this many in short succession. And not long before that fallout 4 too (with far harbor and nukaworld). Man, I am on a roll!
