#PC problems

i don't know who needs this information but if you have an hp laptop or run windows 10, check if you have an app called OMEN Gaming Hub and delete it.

it's an OFFICIAL HP app and it acts like MALWARE, i'm being dead serious. it maxed out my RAM and CPU to 100% load and my entire pc was overheating because of it! when i opened task manage to figure out why my computer was tripping, the app was running a task called "HP.OMEN.OMENInstallMonitor" that had replicated tens and tens of times, and was running my pc to death.

sincerely, from a computer engineering major, delete the app! it has the ability to act like a virus without being brought to your attention because it's registered as safe by all of your malware scanners :)

(For some infernal reason, Pets REFUSES to install, it's stuck on Preparing/Download Error even after I cleared the EA App cache a zillion times, but every other EP & SP installed & loaded in-game just fine, so I guess this is just more of EA's glitched out effery, because ofc. 🙄)

Welp, that stream didn't last long.

I've been running into this issue over the past few weeks with OBS, where it sometimes crashes when I try to start it up or do anything more complicated than managing sources.

Now it's escalated to causing encoding errors during streams and crashing.

Every time it crashes, I have to reset my PC entirely, because nothing I do will make it actually properly reset in the same session. I can't even use Task Manager to shut it down entirely because it takes Task Manager down with it. So maybe this is some kind of memory problem or something to do with my GPU, but it's driving me insane. I'm really tired of this PC causing me issues especially where the GPU is concerned and I don't know what it's gonna take, but I need it to stop fucking with me 😭 Half the leads I find I can't even pursue because it often requires either re-installing Adrenalin (which bricks my PC), or having to access my BIOS which for some reason just doesn't work on startup anymore (like no amount of mashing F2 or Delete prompts it to come up).

So I'm effectively stuck until I can call my PC guy tomorrow and see if he has any solutions. In the meantime I'm gonna try installing a fresh reboot of OBS, rebuilding all my sources, etc. because it could very well be something within the program itself causing these problems. I don't know. I basically have to just keep grasping at straws until something catches.

So. Yeah. Wish me luck y'all. Very sorry to everyone who has to deal with all this shit on the viewing end of things, I'm gonna try and have it fixed as fast as possible <3

TL:DR: I thought my main work computer/gaming rig had died with an abrupt, inexplicable frankly STRANGE fault. Turned out it just couldn't cope with my Bose earbuds being plugged in to the USB port on my monitor during startup.

Guys, I thought I was going to have a really, very bad day. Went to turn on my computer to do some editing and it just, would not start. The fans lit up, but it wasn't even getting to the Bios, let alone loading Windows.

No Bios beeps to go "YO something's fucked". In fact, nothing diagnostically helpful at all. Peripherals, such as the keyboard, were incredibly sluggish/non-responsive. It was just weird.

Now and then it would get to the "To load Bios screen press DEL" but then it wouldn't react to anything. I tried turning it off and on again, repeatedly. Even my techy partner was scowling at it in confusion.

Both of us hesitantly figured maybe the motherboard had died, because most other things going tits up would at least let you get to the Bios, if not into Windows itself before some kind of screen of death incident. So motherboard seemed like a likely culprit.

I misjudged. I owe it an apology. It was not the motherboard.

So other than "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" a piece of advice that people think is bullshit is "unplug all the peripherals and try turning it on and see if it works."

Never again will I scoff at this advice.

I unplugged the peripherals (keyboard, mouse etc), including my Bose headphones, which were charging in the USB port hub that's built into my monitor.

My PC started just fine! (Insert shocked Pikachu face). Maybe it was a fluke? It was probably a fluke. Yet I was able to restart my PC multiple times with no weird fault.

Okay. Reconnected keyboard and mouse, no problem. So it's probably the USB hub inside my monitor that's busted. Tried a different device plugged into said hub during start up. Nope. Still worked fine.

Plugged in my Bose earbuds, then started up my machine. My PC went unresponsive again. It was on the road to nowhere. All because of these bastards.

On the one hand, I'm relieved, because this fix cost me nothing but a little bit of time. On hte other, I'm stunned, because WTF were the Bose headphones doing to stop my poor PC in its tracks like that?

so like.. I have this thing that happens on my computer when I try to play video games.. not every game does it, and it's not studio specific either,

I don't have screenshots but, A Date With Death - by Two and a Half Studio also lagged this way, the background of Casper's room would lag like that

and another game all the backgrounds did this but I can't remember which it was and I don't have the time to go through all my games at 3:30 a.m. lol

all the games I have that do these were obtained through Itch. io and unzipped/extracted with WinRAR with "extract here" function

whether I run games as administrator or not does not change anything to this issue

the only issue my pc could have that I can think of is, I *am* running these on a 14 y/o graphics card (2010)

it's genuinely not a great graphics card, but it also can run games like Genshin Impact & Zenless Zone Zero with little to no problems

has anyone else ever encountered this issue? if so, did you manage to fix it/ how?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling games, it does not work

I know it's a minor issue, but it does often ruin my gaming experience on games I am certain I could genuinely love otherwise

I've looked online and either I just can't describe the issue well enough to find a solution, or just no one else has had this issue before, which I doubt lmao, I also looked in all the games' comment sections on itch. io and it doesn't seem like anyone else has these issues...

Due to computer problems aka clip studio saying it didn’t shut correctly so it won’t open my launcher and I can’t access a lot of my brushes , im off my pc for a bit until I can. Fix it :( have I mentioned that I do not like iPhone personally? lol

PC Problems🥲

I've tried to turn on my PC but suddenly my PC screen got pitch blacked, and it seemed to be quite a problem for me and I couldn't do digital art for a very long time *crieesss

Also one of my PCs fans is super loud... already since years during the booting process but it settles down when the PC is ready. But nowadays it's doing it in the middle of the day too, till it's done and shuts up again.

My suspicion is that it's the CPU fan that might be a bit lose. Hopefully just that. Thing is the noise stops but none of the potential 4 fans is stops spinning. I tried to film it a while ago, it's also super hard to locate the sound since it's such a small space. But also when I tilt the PC during the noise phase, the sound stops for a bit... so it gotta be a lose fan issue 🤔

Fingers crossed my PC will not die soon 🤞

I need to catch up on work after using all morning for other stuff, so I went to turn on my laptop andddd

It doesn’t turn on.

The lights and keyboard light up, but sort of remain intermittent like Christmas lights, I suspect it accidentally turned on while I was away and may have overheated, as I found my mouse on, but I’m not sure.

Tomorrow I’ll do the usual of a complete disassembly, clean up and new thermal paste for the processor, and if that doesn’t work, then I’m fucked.

We will see.

I really hate how disc drives aren't standard anymore... You could always get an external disc drive that connects through USB though? Then you could install from disc and use the super patch to get it up to date, no EA app or Origin required. Though, yes, you can still use Origin if you want to! You could probably find a guide on youtube to show you how. Its a bit of a process but it's worth it.

Me too! Everything's "digital download" this, "SSD drives are so much better" that; but then look at the mess we have to go through when this newfangoled next-gen garbage doesn't work! 🙄

I am 100% buying an external drive--I'm mad that the guy at the computer store never even bothered to mention/recommend that I could do that when I was LITERALLY sitting there bummed out because they didn't sell PCs with CD drives. 🤬

As for Origin, I did manage to get a wee bit of success following what I found on Reddit. I reinstalled the older version they linked to avoid the dreaded 20:403 error, only to hit another roadblock with the dreaded un-closeable EA App Migration screen:

Which sucks, cuz in the split second before the Migration screen pops up, I am fast enough to click My Game Library--which works!--but before I can select The Sims 3 to reinstall the Pets EP the dreaded EA App screen appears and stops me in my tracks. 😩💢 And none of the fixes I found online work to get rid of it for good.

EA needs to create a TS3 Ultimate Collection for the EA App--this is EFFING RIDICULOUS, selling a product on an app that can't even download/install/run it! 😡💢💢💢

I've been enjoying writing prompts hoping it would help with my writers block with my Vampire Au, but I'm now struggling to find the motivation to write the next chapter of it. I had started on another chapter but then I ran into issues with my PC and I had to do an emergency shut down and lost all my progress and its just drained all my motivation from me

I found like 182818282 years ago a post about slow pcs. It was like someone had a super slow PC and they did something and boom, it was fast again.

Today I turned on my old laptop and it is SO SLOW that I literally waited half and hour for it to get started

Anyways I'm poor and I cannot afford a new laptop 😭😭😭

Does anybody know where can I find that post?? Or any advice on how can I make my laptot at least a little bit faster???

My PC is dead-ish

My current PC is mostly dead due to the graphics card. I keep intermittently loosing sections of the screen to black blocks (sometimes covering 1/3 to 1/2 of screen).

Its not really feasible to replace the graphics card on this very old system. This is due to new power connector standards, and the limits of the power supply (it would have to be replaced with a higher wattage to power a new graphics card)

As a result I have ordered a new PC and hopefully I should be up and running soon. However its estimated build date has already been pushed back, so I can't really say when that will be.

The good news is that everything on my PC is regularly backed up so there is no data loss.

As a result of this situation, there will be no updates to the Set Blueprint Archive during September (and possibly start of October).
