Soooooo unfortunate update on my writing ✍...

My computer decided to give me the blue screen of death 😭😭😭 I'm in the process of seeing if its salvageable or not and sadly I don't always save on the cloud as I'm not really a fan (had things disappear from the cloud a few times, probably me somehow🤔)

At any rate I don't know what was saved properly onto the cloud and what wasn't and I'm not sure how long it will take to either get my computer fixed or get a new one 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ and if I have to rewrite newer chapters on several fics or not ☹

Having a truly nuts Computer Issue. In the middle of playing FFXIV my game suddenly. Uh. Broke completely.

Everything froze up. Icons stopped loading. The horrid creature started T-posing. I eventually try to close the game by force. One alt-f4 and trying to launch it again later, I discover that not only does the launcher not work suddenly, but my computer no longer detects the SSD i have the game stored on.

That seems bad.

I'm fucking pissed

My laptop decided to fucking half-factory reset itself for some unknown reason. And I don't have any System Restore points saved.....so I can't restore my files.

I thought I found them, but then I couldn't access them....so I decided to reset my laptop after trying several other methods to restore my shit.

But now I fear I've lost YEARS worth of Sims 4 gameplay..... because the saves are sent to a folder in my Files. While I used the "Keep My Files" option for the reset, I worry everything is gone.

I don't know what caused this, but I'm pretty sure there was some Windows update that happened and something got corrupted.

Praying my saves are okay.

so like.. I have this thing that happens on my computer when I try to play video games.. not every game does it, and it's not studio specific either,

idk how to explain it so here's some screenshots:

I don't have screenshots but, A Date With Death - by Two and a Half Studio also lagged this way, the background of Casper's room would lag like that

and another game all the backgrounds did this but I can't remember which it was and I don't have the time to go through all my games at 3:30 a.m. lol

all the games I have that do these were obtained through Itch. io and unzipped/extracted with WinRAR with "extract here" function

whether I run games as administrator or not does not change anything to this issue

the only issue my pc could have that I can think of is, I *am* running these on a 14 y/o graphics card (2010)

it's genuinely not a great graphics card, but it also can run games like Genshin Impact & Zenless Zone Zero with little to no problems

has anyone else ever encountered this issue? if so, did you manage to fix it/ how?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling games, it does not work

I know it's a minor issue, but it does often ruin my gaming experience on games I am certain I could genuinely love otherwise

I've looked online and either I just can't describe the issue well enough to find a solution, or just no one else has had this issue before, which I doubt lmao, I also looked in all the games' comment sections on itch. io and it doesn't seem like anyone else has these issues...

Is anyone else having Ao3 issues right now, or is it my computer acting up again??

I keep getting an error message: SSL Connection Failed.

My error screen says my browser is fine, whatever the heck 'Cloudflare' is is apparently fine, but Archive of Our Own is giving an 'Error'.

At the bottom of the error page it says 'What can I do?' and the only bullet point is 'try again in a few minutes', welp I've done that. (This is not the first time I've gotten this error screen. I've gotten it a few times last week too, but refreshing the page actually worked then.)

It's JUST Ao3 giving me this error message, not Tumblr, not Google, not any other web pages I've been to.

EDIT: In the amount of time it took to type this, add tags, and get stressed out + explain the issue to a second party sitting next to me- My page reloaded and Ao3 is back now. Not sure what happened here, but it seems fine now? Still curious about what could be causing the issue though. So I'll still post this anyway.

I legit thought my computer was going to explode a few minutes ago. The Nvidia card made a sound like it had been literally kicked in the nuts into high gear. Everything froze. Then all 3 sets of considerable fans in the case blasted on. Hard shutting down (holding the power button down) did not work for about 10 very long seconds, giving me plenty of time to wonder if this was how death was going to come for me. I honestly kinda wish it would have. This thing might as well kill me as a grand finale.

In other news, Dell removed their most current BIOS and the previous 3 versions. I'm sure there's nothing suspicious about that and that everything Dell is doing is really cool and awesome and will promote perfectly working computers.

I know it's not all Dell PCs but, God bless, it's more than just one or two, if my research proves anything. I wish I could get a refund so I could trade this off for something that actually works. I wish I'd never bought it. Maybe I can save towards some entry level PC that can't game or vid (which is no different from what I have right now) but might not make me feel like I'm taking my life in my hands just turning it on. I don't want to be scared of my own computer and I actually really am of this one.

If I disappear for good, just know I love you all and I died doing the thing I love the most: endless computer repairs. 😑

Why I was gone

My luck isn't the best, as you've probably noticed. While I was able to take leave for two weeks and even play some, I wasn't able to get all the pictures needed. I assumed I would be able to get them later, so I scheduled some post (you might've seen them). But then I ran into computer issues. Black lines started appearing on my display and I hold no clue what was causing it. Both my computer and monitor came from the same place and were relatively new, add to the fact that I've already been having issues with my computer. Good news it was my monitor in the end, bad news I needed to get a new one. So it took a while. And then my mouse stopped working for some reason, it would work and then stop, then work then stop again. The keyboard which it's paired with was working fine but the mouse was being weird. So I got a new keyboard and mouse. Technology hates me. But I'm back and a new post will be appearing tomorrow. Thank you for waiting and I hope you enjoy what's next for the Waring Family.

My Chromebook could cook an egg right now (please help!)

I'm not much of a computer person, so this might be incomprehensible, but if anything is unclear I can provide screenshots.

Every time I restart my Chromebook (Acer, about 3 years old), for the next 2 days or so after restarting, the computer will become insanely hot. Currently typing this on a 70 degree Celsius (158 Fahrenheit) keyboard. I googled how to solve this, and it said that CPU is usually what causes computers to get really hot, and that you can check the CPU from different apps and processes in your task manager. So I do what anyone would do and scroll through my task manager until I find the problem: Linux ARCVM. I have no idea what that is, but the CPU number sits between 140 and 250, whereas my 2 Chrome tabs have around 5 each. I looked up how to solve the problem, and every thread said to disable Google Play and all the related apps, which I did. I also deleted 3 of the 4 apps I've ever installed. It did nothing. Actually, I think the computer got hotter after I did that. I've started keeping task manager open constantly, closing the program every time it opens, but that doesn't seem to help either.

This has been happening every time I restart my computer for the past 2 years. My battery life is down to an hour and a half, and I have to keep the computer propped up against my bedroom fan to stop it from shutting itself down due to overheating. I swear, the bottom of this laptop could cook a steak medium well. Please help!

PS: as soon as I went to post this, my little monster of a Chromebook finally cooled to a reasonable temperature. Oh well, I still have one more software update left to complete, and it'll probably be burning my fingers again in a matter of minutes. Wish me luck!
