Went on a trip to another town yesterday to get a new tattoo. I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to stop working and go out. Yes, I love my PhD and my project. If I was able to work on it non-stop I probably would in some aspects. But that’s how burnout happens, that’s why so many of my peers started to resent their projects and topics.
I don’t want that to happen to me. So going away for a day trip on my own was fantastic. And I’m a little obsessed with my new tattoo as well ✨

The more I read about Babylonia, the more I realize the Romans were essentially copy-pasting a good 80% of their technology, enhanced by coinage and lightweight communication methods.
The Romans also loved stone more than the Babylonians. An abnormal amount. I say that as someone who loves rocks. They loved stonework.
#Babylonians saw clay available to be molded into any shape with the bonus of Brick and went ham. <- Advanced society.#Roman Empire 24/7 boys need to get on my level. /j /j#Free PhD question: Does the geology/geography of Roman masonry correspond with any metaphoric meaning?#I was trying not to ramble in the comments but it's late and I'm tired and my mind is revolving with unanswered questions.#How much did Rome bounce off of Egypt instead of Babylonia? I want to say more than Babylonia because of that stonework#trend; but that makes more sense in regards to proximity to Egypt rather than cultural osmosis. Then again Greece is the trading partner in#the middle there and I'm heavily discounting their influence.#This is all very stupid musing anyway because I don't have a specific technology I'm tracking. I think I'm wondering about aqueducts#because I just learned that Babylonians used them frequently but I've never heard of the Egyptians doing the same.#This could be Egyptian anti-aqueduct bias tbh. Nobody cares about Egyptian technology except to build the pyramids.#You know what I could do tomorrow? I have a book on my shelf about the architecture of ancient megastructures my brother got#me for christmas and that would probably answer 90% of my questions.

Putting this here for future me as a cross-ref between book and show for Vampire Art History essay, Armand & Renaissance art, Louis & the 20th century and non-representative forms--ACTUALLY. Put a pin in this for later, sidenote, bracket, because I REALLY want to see how they adapt Armand's significant and symbolic connection to religious art (Orthodox icon painting) as a throughline to Renaissance art and Christian representative (if not strictly realist) aesthetics when show!Armand comes from a religious tradition that prohibits graven images. Rupture instead of continuity, which will underscore the colonialism aspect they are no doubt going to develop. ANYWAY. This passage from IWTV: The Book and their prissy gay argument about what to hang on the wall after selling the Bacon triptych

#I will get to use Stefania's work in this essay which is exciting#Because she did her PhD in early Renaissance architecture and write a lot about Renaissance art#Vampire Art History#Thinking. About vampires

why be a lecturer during your phd? because you’re not going to say no when your advisor tells you that’s what you’re going to do, especially when you need the money it’s a great excuse to use your own vacation photos

Hard to believe I will be super close to leaving school. Walking away from uni with two bachelors and soon a masters.
If I have to go back and make a second attempt at a PhD, I hope it's in botany.

Writing Skills: Essential Fuel for Every Programmer 🥇👨💻
One of the key factors that can enhance a programmer’s expertise, knowledge, and reach is the ability to effectively present their ideas—whether directly or indirectly
One of the key factors that can enhance a programmer’s expertise, knowledge, and reach is the ability to effectively present their ideas—whether directly or indirectly. After years of writing research papers and articles, I realized that the skill I most needed to improve was "academic writing". This skill focuses on enabling individuals to convey their ideas in a clear, structured, and accessible way that appeals to a wide audience.
Academic writing is essential for selecting the right title, making smooth transitions between ideas, and summarizing concepts in a concise yet comprehensive manner. It allows readers to grasp the intended message easily. Additionally, the structure of your work—whether it's an article, research paper, or essay—plays a crucial role in how your ideas are received and understood.
Through my ongoing master's studies, I’m grateful to a professor who pointed out the importance of academic writing, something I had previously overlooked. Fortunately, one of my courses is dedicated to "Academic Writing Skills", a subject that I find incredibly valuable. I believe this skill will be fundamental in helping me market my ideas to the global and digital community.
For those looking to improve their writing, I recommend the following resources:

Old and recent photos of UWI Cave Hill Campus, Barbados
The administration building was designed in the shape of an Akan stool, a West African symbol of cultural identity and ancestral wisdom. It was commissioned by Sir Hilary Beckles to reflect a collective will to reconnect with African heritage and envision future bonds rooted in that legacy.

METAPHYSICS / ONTOLOGY
(NOTE: posting another part of my ongoing dissertation. This is part of an unedited and working chapter, there are gaps and this text at the moment, which I am editing as I am posting this.) Since this study raises the question of the ontological models behind the architectural theories of style, it is important that I explicate what is ontology, and also what is object-oriented ontology or OOO,…

Danielle McCleave Becomes First Black Woman to Earn Doctorate from UH Mānoa
Danielle McCleave made history as the first Black woman to earn a Doctor of Architecture professional degree from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa School of Architecture. McCleave earned her bachelor's degree in fine arts with an emphasis in sculpture and painting from Belmont University before pursuing her doctorate at UH Mānoa.
When she found out she would be the first Black woman to obtain this degree, McCleave felt "excited to be in this position of trailblazing" and knew it would be encouraging for other Black women looking to get into design. However, she was also "saddened that in 2022, there are still firsts like this to be had."
McCleave's graduation is seen as a significant step in the right direction for the architecture field, which has historically been dominated by white males. Her achievement is an important milestone for the UH Mānoa School of Architecture as well.
McCleave hopes that by sharing her story, it will encourage people to look into more diverse architecture practices and people for their knowledge and case studies.

I created a custom Python script to help with spatial 3d printing that creates a graph class from the set of lines and generate a connected graph outputting the graph nodes, the node connections, and list length of the connected nodes
The purpose is for each node to find the connecting nodes so that when searched, all possible moves are found for the next extrusion set so the logic can be set up to choose what path to take for the next node until all lines are used in a way that makes the extrusion physically possible.
Many of the challenges that are faced in developing a working spatial toolpath sequence is the collisions with existing printed structures and robotic orientation that I hope to solve with this process.
