Ugh I want the new Dracula-themed perfume set by Poesie Perfumes so bad but I can't afford the whole set and I can't decide which ones to buy 😩

This is Ritual by Poesie Perfumes

Ritual is a beautifully crafted atmospheric scent.  It transports you to the edge of a pine forest, sitting next to a cold, moonlit lake.  It makes you feel as if you had just finished performing a ritual under the full moon.  A stick of dragon’s blood incense has just finished burning, you’re about to light a clove cigarette to decompress.  The cold lake water is splashing against the rocky bank, the smell of the forest envelopes you.  The crisp breeze is stirring fallen leaves and pine needles. 

The pine in this is really lovely, it’s not overpowering and mixes with slightly damp, earthy fallen leaves, and the clove really well.  The incense is present only in the background, the smoke is light on the crisp fall air.  The aquatic note isn’t stagnant at all.  This lake isn’t dirty.  It’s clean and fresh and dark and cold, but still distinctly aquatic.  The leaves also aren’t musty or mildewy.  They just add a nice earthy quality to the bottom of the perfume.

Ritual is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of atmospheric perfumes.  I gave it a 3.8/5, which is, admittedly, rather low for what this perfume is giving.  I’m not a huge pine fan, so this one isn’t for me, but I urge you to try it if you can find a bottle or sample of it.  If you like pine scents or atmospherics this one is literally the most perfect scent I can recommend to you.

yes my poesie order arrived only a couple days ago, yes i cannot help myself and tested two already

Poesie’s White Rabbit: fluffy white fur musk, kumquat marmalade, lacy carrot flower, a wisp of hay and sweet fennel 

i sniffed this from the vial when it arrived (cold! it was near freezing when it got here!) and knew immediately i would adore it. we all know how much i love citrus perfumes, and that kumquat marmalade is to DIE for.

i tested it yesterday, and the marmalade faded faster than i would like tho i think it would get stronger as it rests (citrus tends to actually stick around on my skin, even though it’s known to be a fleeting top note). but it still added a lovely citrus fruity-ness to it. there’s a bit of earthy sweetness from the hay and fennel, and i don’t know what carrot flower smells like but i presume it’s helping either the marmalade or earthy notes. finally i got some of that fuzzy fur musk. fur musk and i have a contentious relationship, but since it takes a back seat to the rest of these notes, i quite enjoy it here.

i really hope this one comes back because i want to get a larger size. there’s still samples available through poesie’s lucky day sale, if you’re even somewhat curious i highly recommend picking it up!

Poesie’s Rich Ghost: Iso E Super, ruby red grapefruit, rich sandalwood, golden threads of saffron, a hint of jasmine perfume, grey musk, warm amber, marshmallow 

yup, today i tested the other citrus perfume i got lol. this is the one from last year’s ghost collection i really wanted to try, but since they were only selling sample sets or full sizes i didn’t pick it up. i guess they poured too many samples since it’s in the luck day sale, too.

this one definitely needs more rest. i figured it would since half of the notes are base notes, but i wanted to give it a go anyway because the combination of grapefruit and sandalwood in the vial was making me feel some kind of way.

i think this sandalwood is similar to the one sorcellerie has used in their sandalwood perfumes i’ve enjoyed, because it feels very familiar. the grapefruit also reminds me of NAVA’s grapefruit, which is a huge compliment since their grapefruit is what made me realize i go nuts for the note.

overall this blends together very smoothly, even though it needs more rest. the overall scent is a little on the muddled side. i’m not getting any jasmine (thank god) but i’m also not getting much else than light citrus and sandalwood + grey musk + other base notes. oh, and iso e super. that is also what’s reminding me of sorcellerie perfumes. i’ll set it aside and test it again in a month or so.

two other perfumes still for sale for their lucky day event that i own are Eat Me (peach lavender cake with a marshmallow frosting dotted with currants) and  Mayari (green bamboo, white tea, sea salt, ginger root essential oil, Cetalox).

Eat Me is delicious, reminding me of arcana’s popular Fille de Joie (Delicate lavender marshmallows and yellow peaches cured in a vanilla absolute bottle.) but more foody. the peaches are syrupy in eat me while they’re fresh in fille de joie, and the lavender is more smooth than fille’s very herbal lavender. i don’t normally like having perfumes that are so similar but these are different enough and i like them both that i’m not gonna get rid of either.

Mayari is quite possibly the best summer beach perfume, because it works great in humidity. the bamboo and white tea give off the vibe of green tea while the sea salt and cetalox give it that salty beachy edge to it. i literally don’t know how to sell it except to say it’s both something i’ve never experienced before while also being a “safe” perfume choice.

ghoul perfume associations pt. 2 (halloween edition)!

halloween ghouls! a little bit murderous, a little bit monstrous. is the slight scent of blood from the perfume or did the ghouls just get back from a hunt? who knows.

(i thought it would be fun to make a Halloween/fall edition of the ghoul perfume list I made before, so here it is! for most of these the first scent is a little bit out there, and the second is more wearable/lighthearted.)

Aeon

Notes: clean linen, lavender, marshmallows, blood. Aeon smells clean and gentle, but that cleanliness is tinged red and metallic on the edges.

Notes: amber, wood, blood. Aether smells warm and golden, resinous and a little bit spicy, like the ideal fall day spent lounging in front of the fireplace. But every so often you catch the edge of something that smells suspiciously like blood…

Notes: leather, smoke, spices, rot. Alpha smells aggressive and dangerous – and he is. Of all of the ghouls, Alpha is the most likely to admit to his hobby of hunting unsuspecting Abbey visitors for sport.

Cirrus

Notes: dark fruits, musk, metal. Cirrus smells alluring enough that you can almost ignore the way her nails are a little too sharp, her smile a little too wild. Her idea of flirting is offering to help you hide a body, and you’re not sure she’s joking.

“Inspired by the opening pages of Circle of Blood. The scent of vice and darkness: flashing neon, oil-tinged petrichor, fading perfume, smeared lipstick, and the faintest touch of gunpowder residue.”

“Wild plum, red musk, tuberose, calla lily, heliotrope, pimento, ylang ylang and beeswax beneath a dark haze of sinister purple-hued incense smoke.”

Cumulus

Notes: florals, sugar, poisonous chemicals. Cumulus smells sweet, sugary in a way that gets stuck to your gums and makes your teeth ache. She has the face – and scent – of an angel, but something about the way her eyes follow you makes you uneasy.

Notes: dark fruits, smoke, ash. Dew smells like the remnants of a house fire that may or may not have been set on purpose. He smells like if you knew what was good for you, you wouldn’t let him out of your sight.

The scent of black smoke, of crackling flames, and smoldering ashes.

Silent Hill -- Spirit and Venom

“The combination of foggy air, deep fire smoke, dark pomegranate, and hints of overturned dirt and honey. Welcome to Silent Hill!” 

Ifrit

Notes: black tea, brimstone, incense. Ifrit smells dark and clinging, slinky in a way that sets you on edge. He smells like going to sleep and knowing you won’t wake up.

Mist

Notes: water, herbs, blood. Mist smells herbal and cold, like the transition of fall into winter. She smells a little bit sweet, a little bit metallic, a little bit dangerous. Her scent reminds you of rain so heavy and cold you can barely take a breath.

Villa Diodati -- Poesie Perfume

Notes: greenery, earth, poisonous mushrooms. Mountain smells like crushed leaves, like little brown mushrooms, like the change in the air when the calender hits October. He smells earthy and damp, as if he spent the day digging holes… for plants, of course. Right?

Notes: peach, rose, blood. Nimbus smells sweet – slightly earthy, slightly metallic – but overwhelmingly like peaches that are so ripe they fall apart in your hands. She smells like the thorn bushes that shrikes impale their prey on – but there aren’t any corpses in her garden. Probably.

Notes: wood, amber, ink. Omega smells like the ghost of a once-warm sitting room. He smells like amber, like polished wood, like seeing something out of the corner of your eye and feeling watched for hours afterward.

But it had to be, surely there isn’t anything else down there…

Notes: smoke, musk, patchouli, blood. Swiss smells like darkness so thick that there could be something right in front of you and you would have no idea – or maybe right behind you. He smells like earthy resin, wine the color of blood, and curling smoke. Something about his scent leaves a metallic tang in the back of your throat.

versailles by poesie: actually a marie antoinette-inspired gourmand. orange blossoms, citrusy cake. ideal for a garden tea party.

juliet by bpal is a rounded pear and white floral. very juicy, with that naïve feeling that would not be out of place for madame la dauphine.

echoed ecstasy by alkemia: a tumble on a grassy slope, strawberry-stained mouths, fresh ginger and lemon. there's a bubbly fizz to it, almost like champagne.

delina la rosée by parfums de marly: the chemise à la reine to the original delina's silk gown: fresher, tinged by a bit of green, younger.

insolence EDT by guerlain: i just think marie antoinette would like insolence. bright, clean violets, a glimpse of orange blossom, red berries, and the classic guerlain heart accord.

and how could i forget historiae's bouquet du trianon! inspired by her actual perfume and the trianon's gardens.

This might be really niche. But I dont care; perfumes with G/t vibes

Innocence - Poesie : Floral Gourmand. Would describe as candied flowers. Very fae/mystical creature. Tiny vibes.

Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere - Philosophy : Cozy gourmand. Smells like comfort. While this one personally gives me "loving and doting Giant vibes" I would describe it as sitting in the pocket of your significant other, you can smell the sweetness of a drink on their breath. It's such a comforting scent.

By the Fireplace - Replica : Smokey, woody with slight gourmand notes. This is very much "Lonely Giant who lives in the woods." Comforting and outdoorsy.

Silken Tent - Alkemia : How skin ought to smell. Could not tell you the notes. Sensual and intimate. Giant(ess) vibes. Nuzzled against the bosom of an ethereal being. There's a powerfulness to it. Something about this one is so intimate it feels inappropriate to wear casually. One of my most complicated perfumes.

Twice to Tea - Poesie : Earl Gray/London fog. Smells more sweet and creamy a little while after dry down. Very similar vibes to Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere. Feels very "Giant" with the vibe being snug in the pocket of a Giant while they sip on a drink.

Milk - Commodity : Warm and Spicey Gourmand. Sexy Giant. That's it. It's a flirty and powerful scent. Gives cat and mouse vibes. Like a Giant blurring the lines between flirting and fearplay. This is my street stopper perfume. I've had so many strangers stop me to ask what I'm wearing.

Radiant Nectar - Clean Reserve : Light and Fresh. Could not tell you the precise notes. Tiny vibes. Just an outdoor borrower bathing in the sunlight.

perfume testing turning SOTD because i like it so much

poesie’s OYSTER!: grey musk, ocean brine, bitter cucumber,  a twist of lemon, elemi resin, angelica

i remember when this one first came out years ago. i got a sample back then because i have always loved ocean aquatics, but i remember something about it was... disagreeable. i figured it was the musk. then i got it again as a freebie in a more recent order, sniffed the vial because i was curious, and it smelled a lot more like the ocean note in goldfish princess so i set it aside to test on the skin.

i actually dug up my old sample! i think poesie is using a different ocean note now. i also think my old sample turned, since it was using the old carrier oil. so it’s in the garbage now lol

the ocean note is identical to the one in goldfish princess, which i find surprisingly fresh and bright smelling. but while goldfish princess is sweet and golden from the caramel and amber, oyster is a bit more murky, while also somehow being fresher at the same time. i think the freshness comes from the cucumber and a hint of lemon. the murkiness is absolutely from the musk and resin.

musk usually is one of my hated notes, though grey musk can be tolerable, which i know from the grey musk in poesie’s athena. in this one i barely smell it, which is a huge plus for me!

all in all, OYSTER! is a great perfume. it wears closer to the skin but seems to have great lasting power, like all aquatics do on me, and while it’s on the sweeter side it’s another i’d consider more gender neutral. if i use up my sample i’ll buy a FS. depends on how many rainy days we get, i guess. i prefer wearing aquatics when it rains. i shall also be buying every perfume poesie puts out with this ocean note from now on.
