I believe that the big war with russia is closer than people realize
Why? Patterns of History
Let me ask you: Do you know why hitler launched his Invasion of the ussr in June of 1941?
Well aside from his genocidal beliefs and plans of lebensram, hitler believed it was his last chance to do it
Germany was burning through its oil supply (oil which largely came from the soviets) with no end to the war with Britain in sight while the red army was expanding and modernizing, hitler was terrified that if he waited any longer he would not be able to invade and conquer, and coupled with delusional overconfidence, he pushed forward
What we have is a remarkably and horrifyingly similar situation
Putin-a delusional dictator who dreams of conquest and domination-has blundered his country into a long costly war under the premise it would be quick and cheap, it's costing him a steep price (500,000 russian soldiers killed, maimed, or injured) of a resource he has limited supply of (russia already had a demographics problem before the Invasion of Ukraine), and the nations he wants to conquer/get back under russia's thumb are rearming and reinvesting in their militaries
If putin wants to reconquer the former soviet republics/soviet bloc/Warsaw pact, he's running out of time to do so, so why not do it sooner while his chances are better/he still has a decently sized army/those he wishes to conquer are still rearming?
He also currently has his own Neville Chamberlain in the white house who is destroying the us economy with stupid tariffs, is flakey about the US's NATO commitments, and just generally is putin's bitch
So with that in mind, the best time for putin's grand conquest of eastern Europe will be in the next 3 years, probably January 2028 (maybe late 2027 at the earliest), under the belief that he can conquer his way through the rest of Ukraine, link up with his forces in Transnistria, maybe take Moldova too, take the Baltics and parts of Poland to connect his kaliningrad enclave, and beat the rest of Europe up enough to force a "peace" agreement before the 2028 US elections
And if you think putin wouldn't do that, that it's too crazy and he's too sensible...
People were saying the same about him invading Ukraine in 2021
And people also said similar things about hitler

Temeraire by Naomi Novik (2006-2016)
DESCRIPTION
Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors ride mighty fighting dragons, bred for size or speed. When HMS Reliant captures a French frigate and seizes the precious cargo, an unhatched dragon egg, fate sweeps Captain Will Laurence from his seafaring life into an uncertain future – and an unexpected kinship with a most extraordinary creature. Thrust into the rarified world of the Aerial Corps as master of the dragon Temeraire, he will face a crash course in the daring tactics of airborne battle. For as France’s own dragon-borne forces rally to breach British soil in Bonaparte’s boldest gambit, Laurence and Temeraire must soar into their own baptism of fire.
Capt. Will Laurence is serving with honor in the British Navy when his ship captures a French frigate harboring most a unusual cargo–an incalculably valuable dragon egg. When the egg hatches, Laurence unexpectedly becomes the master of the young dragon Temeraire and finds himself on an extraordinary journey that will shatter his orderly, respectable life and alter the course of his nation’s history.
Thrust into England’s Aerial Corps, Laurence and Temeraire undergo rigorous training while staving off French forces intent on breaching British soil. But the pair has more than France to contend with when China learns that an imperial dragon intended for Napoleon–Temeraire himself– has fallen into British hands. The emperor summons the new pilot and his dragon to the Far East, a long voyage fraught with peril and intrigue. From England’s shores to China’s palaces, from the Silk Road’s outer limits to the embattled borders of Prussia and Poland, Laurence and Temeraire must defend their partnership and their country from powerful adversaries around the globe. But can they succeed against the massed forces of Bonaparte’s implacable army?
Wayside School by Louis Sachar (1978-2020)
There was a terrible mistake. Wayside School was supposed to have been built with thirty classrooms all next to each other in a row. Instead, it was built with the thirty classrooms all on top of each other - thirty stories high! That may be why all kinds of strange stuff happens at Wayside School. Especially, on the thirteenth floor. It is a school full of unusual characters too. Mrs Gorf the meanest teacher in the world. Terrible Todd who always gets sent home early. John who can only read upside down.
Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black (2002-2007)
Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she drifts from place to place with her mother's rock band until an ominous attack forces them back to Kaye's childhood home. But Kaye's life takes another turn when she stumbles upon an injured faerie knight in the woods. Kaye has always been able to see faeries where others could not, and she chooses to save the strange young man instead of leaving him to die.
But this fateful choice will have more dire consequences than she could ever predict, as Kaye soon finds herself the unwilling pawn in an ancient and violent power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms--a struggle that could very well mean her death.
The Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist (1982-1986)
My name is Pug. I was once an orphaned kitchen boy, with no family and no prospects, but I am destined to become a master magician...
War is coming to the Kingdom of the Isles from another world, bringing with it chaos and destruction. Pug yearns to train as a warrior and fight for his kingdom alongside his foster-brother, Tomas, but instead he is forced to follow a different path: a path that will lead him right into the heart of the enemy. And one that will change the course of the war - and two worlds - forever.
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld (2009-2011)
It is the cusp of World War I, and all the European powers are arming up. The Austro-Hungarians and Germans have their Clankers, steam-driven iron machines loaded with guns and ammunition. The British Darwinists employ fabricated animals as their weaponry. Their Leviathan is a whale airship, and the most masterful beast in the British fleet.
Aleksandar Ferdinand, prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is on the run. His own people have turned on him. His title is worthless. All he has is a battle-torn Stormwalker and a loyal crew of men.
Deryn Sharp is a commoner, a girl disguised as a boy in the British Air Service. She's a brilliant airman. But her secret is in constant danger of being discovered.
With the Great War brewing, Alek's and Deryn's paths cross in the most unexpected way...taking them both aboard the Leviathan on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure. One that will change both their lives forever.
The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede (1985-1993)
Cimorene is everything a princess is not supposed to be: headstrong, tomboyish, smart - and bored. So bored that she runs away to live with a dragon - and finds the family and excitement she's been looking for.
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (2020-present)
Yadriel has summoned a ghost, and now he can’t get rid of him.
In an attempt to prove himself a true brujo and gain his family’s acceptance, Yadriel decides to summon his cousin’s ghost and help him cross to the afterlife.
But things get complicated when he accidentally summons the ghost of his high school’s resident bad boy, Julian Diaz – and Julian won't go into death quietly.
The two boys must work together if Yadriel is to move forward with his plan.
But the more time Yadriel and Julian spend together, the harder it is to let each other go.
The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi (2003-2004)
After finding a mysterious, handmade field guide in the attic of the ramshackle old mansion they've just moved into, Jared; his twin brother, Simon; and their older sister, Mallory, discover that there's a magical and maybe dangerous world existing parallel to our own--the world of faerie.
The Grace children want to share their story, but the faeries will do everything possible to stop them...
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman (2012-2015)
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.
Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs, the captain of the Queen's Guard. While they begin to uncover a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect the secret behind her musical gift--a secret so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.
The Queen's Thief by Megan Whalen Turner (1996-2022)
Gen can steal anything—at least that's the boast he's made in wineshops across the capital city, and this bragging has landed him in the king's prison. His chances of escape look slim—even for someone of his talents. When he is invited to join a quest to steal an object straight out of a legend, he's hardly in a position to refuse.

Peter the Great at the Capture of Narva, 1704
Artist: John Trumbull (American, 1756–1843)
Date: 1812
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT, United States
The Battle of Narva
The Battle of Narva on 30 November 1700 (20 November in the Swedish transitional calendar) was an early battle in the Great Northern War. A Swedish relief army under Charles XII of Sweden defeated a Russian siege force three to four times its size. Previously, Charles XII had forced Denmark–Norway to sign the Treaty of Travendal. Narva was not followed by further advances of the Swedish army into Russia; instead, Charles XII turned southward to expel August the Strong from Livonia and Poland–Lithuania. Tsar Peter the Great of Russia took Narva in a second battle in 1704.

Hello let me show you the photos I took at the most recent annual exhibition of Szopki Krakowskie (this will be a long post)
Tumblr media
For introduction, szopka krakowska or Kraków nativity scene is a very specific form of nativity, originally it was a prop accompanying carolers who wandered from house to house singing and celebrating the birth of Christ like in many parts of Poland, but in Kraków over time they became very decorative and started incorporating elements of architecture of significant buildings of the city, figures symbolizing citizens, famous people tied to Kraków and legendary characters, and references to events of the ending year. Every December a competition is held where the prettiest szopki are selected in categories such as big/medium/small/miniature size, group projects, "off" projects etc. Here are some of my favourites :)
The "big size" category is maybe the most impressive, these constructions require a few people to carry:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But my favourites are the miniature category, they were so small that the museum prepared magnifying glasses so the visitors won't miss any details
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More szopki
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some details
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More moving elements, and also the white szopka, I believe its author prepares a white szopka for every year's competition, usually together with another, more traditionally colored construction. Imagine building two of these marvels every year wow
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The "off" category is for szopki that differ too much from the traditional shape, form or material to be allowed in the main competition, and some of them end up very interesting. You can see for example the legendary Wawel Dragon taking up the role of the shed for the Holy Family, or a szopka that's embroidered on a folk vest (look in the mirror - it's on the back side), or a szopka made of toy bricks etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of embroidery, there were more of them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This szopka referenced the tragic flood of 2024 that affected southwestern Poland
Tumblr media
This one here proves that szopki are more of a cultural than religious tradition, as it incorporates the architecture of the Old Synagogue
Tumblr media
What else. Pigeons and an army of other birds
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Moomins are here, too!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you enjoyed, you can buy a szopka for your home at the museum shop ^^ (prices in PLN)
Tumblr media
I made another post about appearances of Stańczyk in this year's szopki
Also no photo but among the "off" category they showed one exhibit that consisted of a few dozen of tiny pictures of AI-generated szopki. I think that regardless of our opinions on this kind of media we can agree that it rose in significance over the year 2024 so it makes sense that the museum wanted to showcase this, but I hope next year there will be no need for that. (they were as ugly as you may imagine)
That would be all. Thank you!

Story Premise
Worm ended badly from a Time Jacker. Once taken care for, time anomaly, Sokichi Banba, decided to use his knowledge to fix things. But soon found out hiw things can get worse.
First order of business on his list, take out Leviathan. Using his knowledge he saved heroes he can. After Instituting 1k bomb threats to help the civilians evacuate. Sokichi Banba, also known as Chief Councilor Naoyuki Miura amongst many others, united every Rider: the Sentai teams he established over the years along with various others, though some were in space at the time like Flashman or gone like Zyuranger: the villains including his enemies: and others along with foreign capes to fight Leviathan. With the help of Kamen Rider J, the fighting force of humanity grew. With their giant size, or continent size for Lung in his dragon form, everyone fought valiantly and easily killed Leviathan... with a massive rider kick finisher from every one. Kyushu was saved. Though explaining the giant monsters to the public became something else for PR.
People soon became interested in Banba's work. Both as a rider or a sentai member. Doctors, engineers, bio engineers, medical experts, scientists became must jobs as did interest in joining sentai teams. Heritage charts soon became the norm. Soon, things like cyberization or intense training became the norm in Japan as cyberization or specialized training soon became mandatory. Propaganda instituted by the government to further this enhancement along with triggering. Anti-cape ideology banned. This forced many of those into exile into other anti-cape countries like China, North Korea and Russia. Japan using what influences it gathered soon exporting it's ideals all over using anime, video games, TV shows, posters and diplomatic stations.
This in turn furthered Russia's paranoia against super humans, causing them to lash out more. This caused them to get involve in China's second civil war against the Yăngbăng. This caught the Yăngbăng off guard.
Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau retaining independence from the collapsing China. Tibet, Inner Mongolia and Xinijiang regaining their independence. They soon in turn inward to improve. Unfortunately war soon fell on their doorsteps.
To further their beliefs, Japan relegated their defense force into a highly functioning conquering force to force enhancements onto the nearby islands. This help created more paranoia in Russia and China against super humans. As such, they instituted laws to subjugate/ban/imprison/kill them, causing many to flee to Taiwan, Tibet, Hong Kong, Macau or Japan if not the West.
This in turn forced a war with Japan, Finland, Poland, Ukraine, the Baltic states, Mongolia, Armenia, New Siam, Vietnam, Taiwan, Indonesia, Australia and the left over American army in the region as the two tried excerting power over everyone in the region.
Yekaterinburg soon became another target for Behemoth 16 months after the death of Leviathan. This time they used all their nukes on him. Unlike last time, no outside parahumans saved the Russian capital. Meanwhile the Three Blasphemies, tricked by Banba, entered Ukraine, then Belarus, Russia and China to kill their leaders a year into the war. The trip to China proved unnecessary as China's leadership met the Russian and North Korean leadership as the Three showed up. This allowed more democratic leaders to take control in Ukraine and Belarus. Unfortunately. The Three also awoke Sleeper and he rampaged through Russia as the North Korean-Russian-Chinese Army attacked him.
As such Russia collapsed allowing the other states to stake their claims, including independence. Finland took back what it lost in the Winter War along with St. Petersburg. Poland took Kalingrad and part of Belarus. Ukraine got their independence confirmed and added Belograd and Krasnardarsky to their state. The Baltics received confirmation of their independence from Russia along with parts of Pskov, though Lithuania received the smallest slice. Belarus receives Smolesk as a result of each Eastern European country getting parts of it's western side. Belarus in turn takes control much of South West Russia. The war distracted Russia enough that the stans, Georgia and Armenia retained their independence without Russia able to influence. The anti-capes fleeing to the remains of Russia.
Mongolia received Inner Mongolia. Xinijiang regained its independence alongside Tibet. While Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan were separated from China. Though Taiwan does regain a foothold on the mainland. The Yăngbăng agents capturing Russian capes throughout the conflict only to forced to flee when Sleeper awoke.
Russia eventually regained control over the situation. But not before Sleeper wiped out their army in the area, attacking several Chinese and Russian cities before going back to sleep in his original location. This allowed the battered Yăngbăng to take control over the remaining China and Russia as nationalists in Russia and China briefly rebelled causing instability and another civil war. This caused the western half of East Russia (People's Republic of Siberia) to split from the eastern half (Republic of the East). This forced the Imperial Union, to accept all three Russian successor states independence along with the other states while taking North Korea whose peadership perished when the Blasphemies arrived.
Taiwan would form the Federal Union of East Asian States through their allies in the area. Think of it as the European Union, but in Asia, It consists of The Republic of China, Macau, Hong Kong, the Mongolian Khanate (ruled by a Yăngbăng like organization after a coup due to the Three Blasphemies), The Republic of Xinijiang, The Socialist Republic of Vietnam, New Siam, the Republic of Korea, The Socialist Republic of Siberia, the Republic of the East. The newly named Imperial Union at edge with the Federal Union. Eight wars would follow.
Russia beaten completely, felt utterly humiliated. Thus formed even harsher anti cape biases. As such the Russians adopted a no cape mentality with a wish of revenge. It became a refuge of anti cape hysteria. Their cabal now known as Siniy Kosmos with their elite army, Prizraki Bol serving as the backbone of the government. An inquisition force known as the Rab Bozhy formed. They would import their ideals into many countries. Many of the capes in Russia either became gangsters or refugees fleeing West or East into the Federal Union states, Japan or Australia.
The riders, sentai teams and others helping around what they could in this new world. The Rider Corp roaming around, defeating monstrous S class foes like the Great Leader who not only revived, but combined all his generals and monsters from every organization he ran into one super kaijin he would possess. The fight would require every sentai team to beat.
Establishing relays, the heroes helped those in need. inspiring the next generation and other governments to form their own team to help in any way they can. The US for example would create Light Speed Rescue which would instrumental in saving lives in the Endbringer and S class fights. They also managed to kill Jack Slash while he attempted a home invasion after an "anonymous" tip. This unfortunately triggered the girl, Riley. Riley would join a Gorgom support group for trauma not soon after.
Using their new fame, Gorgom created facilities to "help others", really recruitment sites for their cult. With the help of Kohtaro Minami, Nobuhiko Akizuki inadvertently reinvigorate Gorgam's image. Shadow Moon befell the world image as an inspiring entrepreneuing philanthropist. His power far and wide. Indonesia, one of his puppet states, proved extra useful in testing the process. The Gorgom's facilities helping with the vulnerable and triggered... like Amelia Levare who watched Brandish ambushed (in public) and murdered her dad in front of her face, Marquis, while in civilian form. Three days after Leviathan's defeat. This in turn triggered Victoria Dallon along with other children who also was there. This forced the remaining Brockton Bay Brigade into the Protectorate.
Both soon joined Gorgom not so after, becoming sisters. With Amy's and Riley's powers, Gorgom entered a new era of research into mutant cyberization. As such, at age 7, Riley Alcott-Martin became the youngest High Priest in Gorgom history with her older sister Amy being the second youngest at 10.
This is the world Taylor Hebert triggered to. A game far dangerous than a game of cops and robbers. But one of powerful cults, monsters and unprecedented danger.

Reinhard Heydrich, Heinrich Himmler, Hans Michael Frank, Werner Best and Kurt Daluege in the Police Law Committee.
So basically a bunch of hateful, murderous, asshats being hateful, murderous, asshats.
Although, the Moose Sized nazi looks like he is photobombing in the pic.
Let's talk about Hans Michael Frank. He seems to be another one that isn't talked about often.
After the German invasion of Poland in 1939, Frank was appointed Governor-General of the occupied Polish territories. During his tenure, he instituted a reign of terror against the civilian population and became directly involved in the mass murder of Jews. He engaged in the use of forced labour and oversaw four of the extermination camps. Frank remained head of the General Government until its collapse in early 1945. During that time, over 4 million people were murdered under his jurisdiction.
Frank was captured by American troops on 4 May 1945, at Tegernsee in southern Bavaria. He attempted suicide twice. He was indicted for war crimes and tried before the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg from 20 November 1945 to 1 October 1946. During the trial he converted, guided by Fr Sixtus O'Connor OFM, to Roman Catholicism, and claimed to have had a series of religious experiences.
Frank voluntarily surrendered 43 volumes of his personal diaries to the Allies, believing his struggles against other Nazi officials would be enough to secure his defence. Oops?
Which were then used against him as evidence of his guilt. Frank confessed to some of the charges, and testified in response to questions from his defence attorney:
"after having heard the testimony of the witness Rudolf Höss, my conscience does not allow me to throw the responsibility solely on these minor people. I myself have never installed an extermination camp for Jews, or promoted the existence of such camps; but if Adolf Hitler personally has laid that dreadful responsibility on his people, then it is mine too, for we have fought against Jewry for years; and we have indulged in the most horrible utterances."
During his captivity, he penned a series of letters in which he also left his last thoughts. To his son Norman, he wrote that he preferred to die and join the "brave soldiers, who were (...) killed in this war" than "be dealt in revenge from [migrants], traitors", from those such as Willy Brandt.
During their trials, he and Albert Speer were the only defendants to show any degree of remorse for their crimes. Though, according to his son Niklas, he portrayed himself as a "man of the law", and was not personally acknowledging guilt, rather shifting it to the "German people" as a whole.
At the same time, he accused the Allies, especially the Soviets, of their own wartime atrocities. Frank was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity on 1 October 1946 and was sentenced to death by hanging.
The death sentence was carried out at Nuremberg Prison on 16 October by US Army Master Sergeant John C. Woods.
Niklas Frank has done many interviews about the horrific deeds of his father. Including, talks at Auschwitz. I highly recommend looking for him on YouTube or other video sites.

This time of year, I’m often thinking about latkes. As the days get shorter and colder, my main consolation is anticipating Hanukkah, and planning what to cook for gatherings with friends and family. I grew up eating latkes, as did my dad and grandparents, and it can feel like they have always been part of this time of year. But in reality, latkes are a new addition to Hanukkah.
The potato is native to the Americas and although it’s now essential to Ashkenazi Jewish and European foods, from kugel to vodka, it didn’t become a staple in Eastern Europe until the mid 1800s. This is true of many ingredients. Before the Columbian Exchange, Italian food didn’t have tomatoes and Indian food didn’t have hot peppers. With Hanukkah coming up, let’s dive into the history of how fried South American potatoes became a quintessential Jewish food.
One popular pre-latke Hanukkah food was cheese (a point for Team Sour Cream). The Book of Judith was associated with Hanukkah starting in at least the 14th century. In a commentary on the Babylonian Talmud from the Middle Ages, Rashbam wrote that just as Esther was primarily responsible for the miracle of Purim, Judith was primarily responsible for the miracle of Hanukkah. Her story actually takes place a few hundred years before the Maccabees were fighting the Seleucids, but in the oral tradition in the Middle Ages it was said that Judith was related to Judah Maccabee. The basic story is that Judith seduced the Assyrian general Holofernes and fed him salty cheese and wine. When he passed out drunk, she beheaded him with his own sword and the Israelites were able to defeat the Assyrian army. People in the Middle Ages ate cheese around Hannukah to remember Judith’s bravery.
The earliest written reference to fried pancakes (levivot in Hebrew) being served for Hanukkah comes from a 1322 poem by Rabbi Kalonymus ben Kalonymus that describes “levivot large and round, the whole size of the frying pan.” So there’s a historical reason to make extra-big latkes this year. Susan Weingarten connects this poem to a version of the Book of Judith copied in 1402 in Provence that says that Judith fed Holofernes fried cheese pancakes.
In the “Encyclopedia of Jewish Food,” Gil Marks traces the spread of ricotta cheese pancakes, which originated as a Hanukkah food in Italy and gradually spread through Europe. In Italy and Central Europe, olive oil and butter were common cooking fats, but in Eastern Europe, especially in the winter, schmaltz was easier to come by. Kosher law prohibits mixing meat and milk, so cheese pancakes evolved into being made with root vegetables like turnips or with rye or buckwheat flour. Once fried pancakes became meat dishes instead of dairy dishes, it was common to serve them with jam (a point for Team Applesauce).
As fried pancakes were becoming a widespread Hanukkah food, potatoes were spreading through Europe. It took some time after potatoes were brought over from South America for them to become a staple. People were initially wary of many new vegetables, including tomatoes and pumpkins. But because potatoes are nutritious, grow well in low-quality soil, and can be stored for long periods of time, they gradually spread across the continent. Potatoes went from being unheard of to being responsible for a quarter of the population growth in Europe between 1700 and 1900. In Eastern Europe, the tipping point to greater acceptance came with crop failures in 1839 and 1840 in Ukraine and Poland. To prevent a famine, people planted huge numbers of potatoes. They became such a staple that they were cheaper than flour, and potato latkes became the default they are today. The word “latke” itself comes from the Slavic “oladka” for a small fried pancake, from the Greek “elaion” for olive oil, and came into use by the mid 15th century.
As latkes moved to America along with waves of Eastern European Jewish immigrants in the early 20th century, the default cooking oil switched to neutral vegetable oil, a win for my personal Team Plenty of Both. This brings us to today – but the evolution of the latke isn’t necessarily over. There are plenty of modern recipes that incorporate other fried, shredded ingredients like zucchini, spinach and beets.
If you’re feeling particularly adventurous this year, you could try one of the oldest fried pancake recipes in recorded Jewish history. Ashishim are sweet, fried red lentil pancakes and there’s a recipe for them in the Jerusalem Talmud that dates from around 400 CE. Whatever kinds of latkes you fry up this year, hopefully the taste will connect you to history and the people you’re celebrating with, and also remind you that trying out new recipes and ingredients is part of a long tradition.

What are the Trump administration’s plans for the U.S. Army at home and abroad?
The question hung over recent House and Senate hearings with Pentagon officials about security challenges facing the United States. “The Department [of Defense (DoD)] is undergoing a global force posture review…No decisions have been made at this time,” the acting assistant secretary for international security affairs, Katherine Thompson, responded at one session when asked about the possibility of changes to the U.S. military footprint in Europe.
For those looking past official statements, however, the writing is on the wall. To meet Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s budgetary and strategic goals, the U.S. Army will have to shrink, and the number of U.S. ground forces in Europe is likely to decline sharply. The Trump administration should not apologize for these changes. Though the moves will face pushback, they are badly needed and will better align U.S. military commitments with the country’s security priorities and available resources.
Since President Donald Trump’s second term began, his national security team has set some clear priorities: ending the war in Ukraine, securing the homeland, and shedding unnecessary costs and defense burdens to focus more attention on Asia. But the administration has been vague about what these goals will mean for the size and shape of the U.S. military and its forward presence overseas, especially in Europe where some 100,000 U.S. forces are currently stationed.

Italy will buy more StormBreaker bombs and AMRAAM missiles for its F-35 fighters
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 02/16/2024 - 16:00in Armaments, Military
The United States Department of State has approved two potential sales of advanced aerial weapons packages to the Italian Republic, intended to equip its Lockheed Martin F-35A/B Lightning II multifunction fighters. These two packages are valued at about 220 million dollars.
Italians plan to buy a batch of RTX GBU-53/B StormBreaker SDB-II guided pumps. Rome intends to increase the package by 125 units and eight mass dimension simulators. Previously, Italians received approvals to buy 48 GBU-53/B SDB-II bombs and four mass-sized simulators.
The new lot was valued at a maximum of US$ 150 million. The first bombs destined for Italy were contracted in December last year.
Tumblr media
StormBreaker GBU-53/B pumps, thanks to their multifunctional guidance system, can be used to destroy stationary and mobile targets. Due to their light weight (93 kg), they can be transported in greater numbers by multifunctional combat aircraft, allowing them to eliminate a greater number of targets and minimizing collateral damage around the attack site.
As part of the second approved application, the Italians want to purchase twelve more AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guided missiles. This case also involves an extension of a previously approved request, which also included twelve missiles along with the necessary logistics package. In this case, the total (24 missiles together with the necessary additional and support elements) was valued at a maximum of 70 million dollars.
Both StormBreaker and AMRAAM missiles will serve as critical improvements to the Italian F-35 Lightning II fleet, reinforcing its air-to-air and air-to-ground combat capabilities.

What reasons would you say that Germany's tactic of Blitzkrieg was effective?
the main decisive factor in its effectiveness was its mobility and piercing ability. for hundreds of years, european armies developed strategies involving trench warfare and traditional tactics of conventional warfare, which largely involved thinly dispersing their army along the border. this is exactly what poland did, their army was actually about the same size as germany's, but they spread it out evenly along the border. the german blitzkrieg tactic exploited that by creating a highly concentrated group of mobile divisions (mainly tanks and motorized infantry) and piercing through the thin front line. they were then able to easily encircle and destroy the remaining enemy divisions along the front line.
in general, blitzkrieg was incredibly effective because it exploited the weaknesses of the tactics used by most european armies for the past hundreds of years, it completely revolutionized warfare

Bubblegum Black mega-ish chapter notes: Chapters 9-12
Yes, that's right! If you only follow me through tumblr, you probably thought I was dead! But no, I just chose to hold off on my usual notes-post until I'd finished the ridiculously long and complicated battle between Hotel Moscow versus D-Company. So the notes will be for four fucking chapters now.
Also, for the record, I'm probably going to stop just posting these on tumblr, and start mirroring them to SpaceBattles or Sufficient Velocity. I mean, how many people have a tumblr account that will let them read all the way through? Not many, I imagine. Well, let's get into it.
CHAPTER 9
The OCs: So! New characters, hm? I don't think they'll be playing a major role in the fic for the most part, but once I figured that Balalaika would have experience operating a powersuit - not because of any particular reason beyond the assumption that they existed during the Kazakh conflict, and then that she needed a way to stand alongside the Sabers in mecha-fighting - then I thought it would be fun to have other suit operators that were Balalaika's comrades-in-arms and thus people the Sabers could fight alongside too. It helped me, in turn, figure out how to humanize Hotel Moscow just a bit, having these specific people with specific talents.
KB-43 Oktyabr: The predecessor to the ADP's K-suits, the Model 43 'Walking Armor' was drafted as a mechanized system in between World War 3 - when light power armor was used for individual infantry protection and lugging heavy equipment - and the Kazakh conflict. UralVagonZavod, the developers, were flush with Chinese money and talent, the alliance between China and Russia supposedly ironclad - the only problem was that Russians hated UVZ for their top-attack vulnerable tanks, the ones that were not so impressive in the Ukraine war and were even less impressive during the botched attacks on Finland and Poland. Building the first powersuits, then, was a last-ditch attempt to not have Russia's legendary tank-building house liquidated and folded into other parts of the Rostec state defense conglomerate. It worked. KB-suits might require more maintenance than other powersuits, might lack the versatility or strength of more modern K-suits, but they're a bit like AK rifles in that regard. They're just fucking everywhere. Also, they're literally just the Russian Arms Boris ACPA from Cyberpunk 2020:
Tumblr media
KB-65 Nasyschat: 'Saturate' in Russian, appropriate for its light artillery capabilities. This is the Russian Arms Bombardier ACPA from Cyberpunk 2020. Note that in both armor's cases I've severely reduced the amount of weapons they carry. This can either be read as a concession to Hotel Moscow not having the logistical might of the old Russian army, or just acknowledging that the amount of weapons an ACPA can carry is fucking goofy. Most ACPA could squish even 2077 Adam Smasher with ease. It's wild.
Tumblr media
GSh-30-V: The 30mm cannon the Boris uses in CP2020, but built by the KBP boys as a rifle (hence the V) patterned off old Gryazev-Shipunov autocannons. I'm sure that this realistically does not make sense. Eh.
KPV: 14.5mm machine gun. Note my joy in turning old Russian guns into powersuit weapons. Ha ha ha. hoo hoo hoo. hee hee hee.
Semi-auto incendiary-flechette shotgun: This, in retrospect, makes no sense. The ammo doesn't make sense and neither does the use of shotguns to take down armor. Well, what the hell. Once again, I blame Cyberpunk 2020's humongazoid 'borg / ACPA weapons, specifically the United Arms CLAW, a 4-gauge mag-fed autoshotgun. If anything I've toned that fucking monstrosity down a bit by making it semi-auto. Kinda like the KS-23, another Russian goofy-gun, now that I think about it.
Instrument Vzloma: Breaching instrument. Which is hardly an appropriate term for a man-sized axe wielded by a giant powersuit, but what the hell.
Balalaika's speech, getting inside Balalaika's head in general: I actually don't want to say much here; the speech, and her internal monologue, should speak for themselves.
Tou Chi The Blaster: Real Black Lagoon character, for those of you who don't know the manga / anime. Kinda one of a million loser gunmen with big attitudes and bigger addiction problems in Roanapur.
More Regrets: Considering how big the missiles are in IRL anti-ship missile boats, I think my image of almost a missile turret for the 2069 Black Lagoon is a smidge off. Obviously the boat's much bigger than an Elco, but its ordnance is much bigger too, right? Yeah. Well, what the hell. Sci-fi tech.
Rock's guns: The shotgun in question is an SASM-18, a futuristic retread of the mag-fed semi-auto SPAS-15, using a motorized cocking system to replace the pump-action switch for specialty rounds so one need only pull the trigger. Oh, and eight shells instead of six. As for the Type-37... I have plans for a detailed look at what's basically Rock's 'hero gun' going forward, even if said gun is somewhat impractical. But I kind of want to put them in an actual chapter instead of dumping them to the side here. So let's put a pin in that for now.
Lena meditating: I know I've said this before someplace, but I'll say it again: It's strange that 2032 Linna's prowess as a melee expert supposedly comes from her aerobics and dance training, and not just plain ol' martial arts. (and then 2040 Linna has no talents either way, but that's beside the point). I still think it'd be nifty if Lena had martial arts training, was still a vain materialistic yuppie but also good at keeping her body in tip-top shape through various techniques. Fuck, now I'm remembering a bit I read of Shawn Hagen's BGC Shadowrun crossover where she just got muscle grafts. How tasteless. And, again, yes, the Sabers are superheroes, of course they're going to rescue people soldiers would write off as dead.
Duhmin, and Roanapur's history: I like this bit of writing. But it explains itself, really. I rewrote the opening of this scene like three times, by the way.
CHAPTER 10
Marya Zaleska: One of Hotel Moscow's big cargo ships (presumably able to carry some weapons at some point) in canon.
Swimmer Rounds: Are apparently a real thing! I think if you look for the most recent Nammo ammunition catalogue you can find them somewhere in there. Wild shit.
Icewolf: So, here's some lore about how hacking works in this cyberpunk-y universe! The old internet was bricked by cyberweapons, not by Bartmoss, and now crude memetic organisms, evolving from those old pieces of software like microbes, are bred, learned from, weaponized for various purposes. In an age where computers are explicitly brain-structured (ie neuromorphic), it makes sense to go for biological metaphors, I think. Like... like Hacker Pokemon? Is that too trite?
Tardigrade: No, there is no prior fic where this type of Boomer showed up, but I really enjoy the idea of the Sabers having had enough adventures that a lot of things that show up in this fic don't necessarily surprise them all that much. Anyway, incoming miniboss encounter!
The Boomer / Powersuit: The thing Balalaika fights here is heavily inspired by the D.D. Mass Production Type, a scribble found in the B-Club and then in the BGC RPG EX book:
Tumblr media
Weirdly enough, according to both the B-Club and the RPG, this was a never-seen design for a Battlemover, but I swear I've seen it in an establishing shot of GENOM Tower's entrance in OVA 6. I don't understand what's going on - is it the same thing? I want to believe it is.
47C Kappa Boomers: Not much to say about these. They're there.
CHAPTER 11
Oh boy oh boy oh boy: Rock finally killed someone himself! What fun! What excitement! I suppose it has to happen in every longer Black Lagoon fic. And I suppose Rock never gets to feel very good about it. And I suppose... what else? I think Revy's reaction was about right here. I really ought to chill on Depression!Rock for a bit, but that'll wait until the next arc.
KA-77: Basically the Russian version of the Bell V-280, the tiltrotor replacement for military helicopters, kitted out with gunship weapons. Fun fact: Tiltrotors don't actually have a worse safety record than helicopters. For a near-future sci-fi setting, they're a much more sensible new VTOL than vectored-thrust vehicles like the Harrier jumpjet or the AVs from Cyberpunk the franchise. Then again, BGC has those really cool-looking enclosed-fan 'aerodynes' the ADP use all the time, so that's an entirely different form of VTOL I didn't use...
Junayd Lakhani: The man himself! He's kind of a preening weenie! That's kind of the point! Also, yes, I resorted to an MGSV-style Fulton recovery system almost as a joke that became a real thing. I do not regret this.
CHAPTER 12
Honestly, I think I've got enough here. Things work out, they explain themselves, and I don't feel like writing extremely long notes for these chapters anymore. Let's just vibe, for now.

I am no military expert, but seeing as how thin Russia is stretched fighting Ukraine, I feel like any mid-sized army joining the war on Ukraine's side would be able to tip the scales (so e.g. UK, France or Poland within Europe) -or what is the question about?
If the scenario is different (I.e., Russia for some reason attacking the UK), the point is moot. Even if abandoned by the US, the rest of NATO would crush Russia.
Tumblr media
Probably not but together Europe can.
The UK government needs to forget our ‘special relationship’ with the US. They are an unreliable partner.
