06 June 2025 ~ Step One (Again)
It's only been sixty days since we last stood here after hesitantly cleaning out this space to make room for new furniture. Here we are again. With friends new and old.
In a way, this shakeup was good. I'm now comfortable with the idea of rearranging the familiar. I'm not even afraid of a total teardown and reset, if need be.
Several times in my life, there have been uncontrolled changes so ruinous that they almost destroyed me. So I taught myself to dread change; to strive only for unaltered familiarity, comfort, safety, permanence.
But now I see self-imposed change can be strengthening and revitalising. And it gives me some hope for resilience when uncontrollable life-redirecting changes rise again.

Letters to San-Diego
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cw: Angst, accidental misgendering, talk of abandonment.
No one minded them sleeping on the couch in Small Heath, so since a place to live was sorted out, they focussed on trying to get news to the Walters of their whereabouts.
Rabbit, Jon and Spine all wrote letters of their own, sealed and stamped and sent them to America with the address, hoping to reach Pappy or one of his sons by the same name. When two months passed and no answers or return letters appeared, they sent more.
They sent letters by dove, by eagle, more through the mail and even tried to call the Manor, despite not being entirely sure that the number and address Tommy found was correct or not. The Jon even tried to send a message by bottle but they never got any answers. No return letters or calls coming in for them.
Spine gave up after the first six months passed. He didn't think they would get anything back nor that they would get back to America anytime soon. He thought it a waste of paper and time and instead tried to think of anything else he could do instead. He wouldn't stop Jon and Rabbit from sending the letters, but he just didn't have the emotional will to continue on that fruitless endeavour himself.
The Jon sent letters every week, having Polly or Tommy spellcheck them beforehand, even though they both admitted to not having finished school. It was fine, he didn't mind. They were willing to check and help him when h struggled with a word and the Spine wasn't around to help.
Since the letters weren't coming back and the birds returned without letters attached to them, it was safe to assume that the letters did in fact get delivered but then why weren't they getting replies or even just something to tell them they'd be going home and it would be sorted?
The Jon went as far as sending a couple letters through the river lines or riding with the boats along the rivers until they reached the sea and then throwing the bottles with letters as far into the waves as he could. The men driving the boats would give him a sympathetic look but they never stopped him or said anything against it. They seemed to enjoy his company though, so he was at least happy to be able to make them happy.
After the first year and a half, Jon had a thorough breakdown in Tommy's room one night and hadn't sent a letter since. He felt abandoned and used and sick to his nonexistent stomach that they would just be thrown away like this. Instead, he did as the Spine did and tried to find a job or something to keep himself busy, just to take his mind off it. Soon enough, he forgot he ever tried to write letters home, acclimating and enjoying life in Birmingham.
Rabbit held on the longest. She wrote for three years, every week, and sent the letters through every means possible to her. It broke her heart when Spine gave up, claimed he was just a downer and a dummins and gave up too easily. She kept writing and always added something in her letters back home about how the Spine was doing since he wasn't sending letters anymore.
Then the Jon gave up on sending letters and the breakdown before his decision had shaken the whole house in Small Heath. Several of the humans and both she and Spine came to see what was the matter. The Shelby family at least had enough sympathy to help them console the Jon into the early morning hours until he involuntarily went into a fitful stasis. The Spine had easily moved him to the couch and helped out extra the next day to make up for it.
She had to keep writing, now including a couple sentences about how the Jon was faring and how many friends he continues to make day in and day out. Sometimes she let's Polly or the Spine spellcheck her, but Polly gives her this dreadful face, full of pity, every time she writes, so she stops asking. She's gotten into many arguments with the Spine over the letters, until she eventually doesn't let him read them anymore either.
They were both dummins for giving up. So what if it's taking Pappy a bit of time to reply to them? He's just making a plan to make sure they get back safely. Yeah! That was it! Maybe he's so busy with his plan that he forgets to write them back and Miss Tonia, Ma, couldn't get him to sit still long enough to write back.
So she keeps writing and writing and writing, until she's repeating things in her letters and she's spending almost as much money on paper and ink as the betting shop is, but she can't stop because if she stops she'll have to admit some heavy things to herself that she can't even bare to think of for a split second, let alone accept.
It all comes to a head one day, three years, seven weeks and three days, into writing the letters to San-Diego. She's writing to Pappy about how she's worried about the Spine because he's getting very close with the Shelby clan and their dealings. He's even gone as far as trading his usual hat for a peaked cap that Tommy gave him, razorblade sewn into the seam and everything.
The Spine walked into the living room and sat down heavily on the old couch. She can tell he'd made a trip to one of the car factories because he brings the smell of oil and welding with him. He lets out a heavy sigh of steam and won't look anywhere other than the hearth, ablaze and warm in the bleak midwinter. No one else is home.
"Rabbit," The Spine's voice is tired, exasperated in a way she's only heard him address the soldiers before. "When are you going to stop with the letters?" He has to ask, because of course he does.
"I won't stop until Pappy comes and gets us and we're back home," She says, determined, brows furrowed as she tries to figure out how to spell a particularly difficult word. There's a shift behind her, Spine getting up from the couch. He walks over to her, reads the letter over her shoulder.
There's a gentle hand placed on top of her own copper hand, Spine's silver design contrasting her own in the way it always did, a small attempt at comfort for the words she knows he's about to say. "Rabbit, I think it's time you stopped the letters and face the facts," his voice is gentle, but it riles something up in her core, something angry and in pain.
She gets to her feet, fast and more coordinated than usual. The pen and letter thrown to the side on the coffee table. "Yeah! Give up like YOU and Jon did! Pappy is coming for us! He'd never abandon us in an unknown place with unknown people!" She's outright screaming now, so much so that she doesn't hear the door to the betting shop opening up. Spine heard it though.
"He already abandoned us! Three years ago! Face it, Rabbit, Pappy isn't coming! HE DOESN'T WANT US BACK!" Spine realises a moment later what he's just uttered into the world. It's so quiet you could hear a pin drop from a mile away. Rabbit is shaking, rattling her mechanical bones. His words just broke her heart, and the last of her resolve with it.
An oily tear drops deafeningly loud onto the carpet and he's about to go over and hug her, apologise and try to undo the damage he'd just caused. He gets a step from his position before Tommy, Arthur, John and Jeremiah run past the door, slamming the front door open. Arthur throws a passing, "Finn's in danger!" And that's all it takes for the Spine to be right on their heels and out the door, leaving his sister to wallow in her broken heart.
Polly had watched the three automatons closely from the start, heart aching when she realised just how childlike they act sometimes and just how much hope they still had in the world and humanity.
She'd seen Spine's realism crack into his resolve and stop him from having the hope his siblings still held. She'd seen Jon cracking and then imploding when his youthful resolve finally cracked and he accepted the situation. She hadn't thought she'd see Rabbit give up.
But she was the first one to return to the house once she knew Finn was safe, only to see Rabbit standing by the fire, burning his latest letter with oily tears dripping down his face and staining his clothes and the carpet by his feet, the occasional drop splashing into the hearth and making it flare.
She'd pulled Rabbit against her, ignoring that he was taller than her and that he'd get oil on her clothes, and Rabbit had come willingly, holding onto Polly tightly as he sobbed like a child that had seen death for the first time. Rabbit's knees had buckled at some point and ended up kneeling on the floor, holding onto Polly's skirts and weeping like a broken record until stasis forcefully took him under.
Polly doesn't know what happened to make Rabbit break, but she did know that Rabbit and Spine didn't talk to each other for two months after that despite being almost attached at the hip beforehand. She hopes for them to make up with each other soon because it was starting to strain Jon.

discovering your pocket spouse au made me have pure brain rot of it omg it’s so CUTEEEEE
I rlly wanna write a lil oneshot about it, but I gotta ask, where do the spouses stay at when their bot is away?
(imagine the bots carrying their spouses home like a polly pocket LMAOOOO)
I remember in the d-16 oneshot where it’s a makeshift room above his charging station, so I’m guessing it’s like their own little home with basic necessities that the human needs.
such a cute little au though AHHHHH I’m froathing at the mouth
Ayyy, super happy you’re enjoying the AU! <3 As for the houses/rooms of pocket spouses, it really depends on the bot’s “caste”!
Miners have to improvise. At first, they keep their pocket spouse in their t-cog holes, and when they manage to install a separate room attached to their recharge station, that’s where their humans spend most of their time, waiting for their miner to return from their shift.
The exception is Elita, who in my AU has her own private habsuite and can offer her pocket spouse much better living conditions— that is, more space to walk around in.
Cogged bots like Darkwing dedicate huge parts of their habsuites to their pocket spouses, filling them with all sorts of trinkets and gifts depending on their spouse’s interests.
And at the very top, there’s the crème de la crème of Iacon: Sentinel and Airachnid whose pocket spouses live in something akin to castles and are utterly pampered.

ok for sexy fairy/bugformers:
Prowl being the odd bot out in the Autobots by being a moth (aka ugly and ~evil~) and the constructicons roll up as pillbugs like "we love prowl!!!"
Yeah Prowl's reputation ain't any better with the 'bots. The Autobots are pretty proper butterflies~ (ignore all the horny decepti-moths trying to fuck them in the background) not nasty little moths getting pounded by rollie-pollies!!
(yeah idk im stressed so my creativity is a bit weird)
moth prowl is a whore for those dirt crawling pillbugs !! they're the only ones who know how to appreciate him

Lost
part 3
The small pink flip phone, which looked like a Polly pocket toy compared to the Cybertronian-sized computer it was hooked onto. A pixelated video of the human-looking girl floating and twirling in the sky played on repeat. The clip was baffling, to say the least.
“It was so cool how she was flipping around in the sky! I wish I got a cleaner vid of her.”
“But how? Could she have been experimented on by MECH?”
Jack asked as he leaned against the bar railing to get a closer look. Not wanting to tear his eyes away from the video.
Ratchet's audio fins twitched ever so slightly as his Optics scene and tried to decipher what he was seeing.
“It's possible, however,” he paused, turning away from the screen. “Why would MECH do human experimentation?”
Each Autobot in the base had their thoughts on the situation, but it all summed up in one cohesive thought: ‘Is she a friend or foe?’. Loud thumping of Optimus pedes rumbled against the walls as he walked closer to the green-tinted screen. Optics trying to calculate an answer in his processor. He didn't know much about the human species, but the knowledge he did have. This was not possible.
“knowing MECH, I would not look past them for experimenting on their own kind.”
Optimus's crystal blue optics never left the screen as the gears in his processor were turning fast to form a single sentence.
“Autobots keep an optic out at all times until we are certain she's not a threat to life on this planet.”
There was a small trickle of Silence before he turned to look at the rest of his team.
“Autobots, roll out.”
Tumblr media
In the forest of nearby Jasper, my body was floating ever so slightly as if I were in a lazy river. I was just basking in the feeling of the sun on my skin, a soft smile spreading across my lips. I was just floating without a care in the world. There was no need to rush back home to fix my boom tube remote.
Floating towards some old, abandoned mine, I lifted my hand to rub a surprisingly smooth rock near the entrance. I huffed out, absolutely enjoying the tranquil quiet until I heard that agonizingly grating voice.
“Buzz!”
Eyes snap open as I turn, almost giving myself whiplash from the speed to stare the bot down. Comfort and calm replaced by pure annoyance.
“Ugh!”
(Sorry, it took me so long to upload this. First, it was a series of back-to-back exams, and then I just didn't have the inspiration to finish this part. It's just so hard to try and write them as accurately as possible for me. Anyway, I hope you like it!)

Polly's reaction
Tumblr media
It hadn't taken them long to get from Charlie's Yard to the house in Small Heath. As usual, Tommy didn't bother knocking and just walked in like he owned the place, which maybe he did in some capacity.
Arthur and John had followed Tommy inside and the Walter 'bots were a little more skeptical, but followed inside after them anyway. They could hear Tommy starting to speak to someone else in the kitchen but as they enter it and see an older woman, she immediately goes on the defence.
John had been closest to her, so she grabs his gun straight out his belt and points it at the mechanical people. Tommy is quick to start talking to her again, assuring her that they aren't a threat. The Spine, Rabbit and The Jon have their arms raised in surrender so she doesn't shoot them. Even if the bullet would not hurt them as it would a human, they still didn't want to have to fish one out of their chassis or fix said chassis when they don't even know if they'd be able to get suitable materials for the job.
Once she finally puts down the gun, resting it on the table near her, which was an okay compromise, they finally put their arms down. Tommy leaned against the kitchen counter while Arthur and John sat down. Polly glanced between the boys and the metal people before finally taking a seat as well, gun still very much in reach of her. With affirmative from Arthur that they were allowed to, the automatons sat down too.
"Right, so what's the reason for the three human-like machines in our kitchen?" Polly asks, sounding annoyed more than anything, almost like her nephews had brought home a dog instead of three sentient automatons.
"They got shipped to Birmingham instead of San-Diego," Tommy says matter-of-factly and this seems to annoy Polly only more. "That doesn't answer my question," she barks it like an order and Rabbit has the fleeting notion to leave the table and do something else.
"We thought they could stay here until we figure something better out," Arthur supplies and Polly is none too impressed with that notion. "Where are we going to put them? The rooms are full now that you boys are back and I don't think the extra bed will be strong enough to carry their weight." She objects, or maybe just points out the facts, it's hard to tell.
While the humans go back and forth about letting them stay here or not, the three automatons communicate with a language all their own. It's whistles and chirps, sounding like music notes and pieces of instruments to make the noises that allow them to communicate.
"Where do we go if they can't house us?" Rabbit chirps at Spine. On the other side of her brother, Jon leans into Spine's side and sighs a plume of steam. "We'll figure something out and I'm sure Tommy will help either way, I trust him," Spine whistles back, only vaguely noticing that Tommy perks ever so slightly at the use of his name in their music language. He forgot Tommy may have picked up a few select words from their time at the front lines.
They tune back into the conversation just as it seems to settle on a decision. "Fine, but I don't know how we'll feed three more mouths," Polly concludes.
"Oh, we don't need to eat, Miss. We just need some water for our boilers and the occasional oil change!" Spine states cheerily, giving a bit of information about them. Polly seems momentarily surprised that Spine speaks so clearly and deep, but nods to show she heard him.
"Then it's settled." She says with air of finality and the tension in the kitchen seems to dissipate slightly.
At that moment, another woman walks in from a doorway that they assume leads to some stairs, a pre-teen (?) boy just a few steps behind her. She pauses at the sight in the kitchen and the boy bumps into her, wondering what the matter is.
They are introduced as Ada and Finn, Tommy's sister and youngest brother. Ada is quick to adjust, offering them tea or even an alcoholic drink but they decline, only Rabbit asks for a glass of water and Polly spends a couple minutes eyeing how she manages to 'drink' it.
At least that night, Rabbit, Spine and Jon were all in one piece and sleeping sitting on the couch with their heads and shoulders leaning on each other. It was the best stasis they'd gotten since the war began.

Me randomly yapping about Toy Story and my process of restoring my Buzz Lightyear doll (I think I'm not very well)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(very ugly gif I made from my video. That's.... my actual doll. That's my hand. Hi 👋)
2 days ago me and my brother were trying to find something to watch and we found the first Toy Story movie in our Disney+. It was more like a "lmao let's watch it again?" but then I got done it simply took over my brain
I literally couldn't sleep tonight due to hyperfocus. It's 06:30 am, help help help help help
I have a tendency to like hyperfocuses from my childhood. I mean, my 2000's- 2010's childhood. No, really, almost every single thing I like are stuff I liked when I was five. My room is full of collected stuff from my childhood because now I'm for example part of the Monster High fandom, or Sofia The First fandom, or Barbie Movies, or Ever After High, Undertale, the list goes on. When I did that "let a bot analyze your Instagram" trend the bot literally said "you seem like you're stuck in the 2010's" AND WELL MAYBE I AM
I have a big history with Toy Story, really huge, I grew up with it. I think it's the first hyperfocus I remember having, I was obsessed (as a young girl, in case you didn't notice, just a detail). My favorite character was Woody, but honestly I knew all the characters' names and I watched the movies over and over again, especially 2 and 3. One day my dad traveled to São Paulo for work (I live in Brazil, São Paulo here would be the equivalent of New York in the USA), he said he was coming back a few days later, and my mom stayed home with me to take care of me. I watched movies on her old laptop, and watched Toy Story 3 several times. It was on one of those times that I was watching when my dad came home from his trip with a gift, without warning, just gave me a huge Woody doll (it was the size of a toddler). My mom said that she had never seen me so happy actually
I carried that Woody everywhere with me. My mom even said I tried to bring him to the shower cuz I simply just couldn't stay away from him for a minute. I think I really took the "toys are alive" thing seriously. Actually I always took very great care of my dolls and that's why I can put my MH/EAH dolls in display in my room, they're very well cared. And my Woody doll is here too, I just don't want to take pics rn because it's very late, my room is dark and I'm lazy to take him off the shelf (I wrote this at 05am). If you call him ugly I'll rip you off in pieces, don't treat my son like that (got these pics from the internet)
Tumblr media
You know that trend where people say "you look like your childhood toy"? my childhood toy is this Woody here. Some people I know made jokes about him being ugly/scary etc but I'm not scared of him, he always treated me very well lmao. He's a very nice fella
Some years later I got a Buzz Lightyear doll, but I mean, the ACTUAL Buzz doll. From the movie I mean
I live in a small town in Brazil. There was a lady (an old lady I mean) who sold products imported from the USA here in my town. In general they were household items, at least most of them. My mom used to buy us (me and my brother) toys by surprise, like, went out to do something and suddently came home with gifts, and that lady sold north american toys for a very cheap price. I THINK they came from thrift stores, because they arrived in plastic bags and they were random most of the time, like, clearly second hand you know? My mom once showed up with a full bag of polly pocket sized pets and playsets, the bag had the size of a trash bag, like, really big actually. And we weren't rich. Recently, due to me restoring this Buzz doll I spoke to my mom and she said that the prices for those toys were around 20 brazillian reais. You know how much 20 reais would be in dollars? 4 dollars, or less, because were talking about the mid 2010's.
Well, I got that Buzz doll. Among other three action figures of Buzz, Woody and Jessie, but they were smaller, fully plastic and didn't had the same appeal as the movie ones... but still, I liked them when I was young. When you pulled Woody's string, his legs actually moved like he could walk (but he couldn't). Jessie I can't remember. And Buzz, I found out that the action figure I had of buzz is called "laser blast Buzz Lightyear", and that's him
Tumblr media
But well, my Buzz doll! The actual movie doll! At the time I didn't minded a lot about Toy Story anymore, even though I still loved to play with my Barbies/MH/EAH, so this Buzz was my brother's, and my brother was a small child when he got it. We got him fully working, pratically new; he could talk when pushing the buttons in his chest, his wings opened when pressing the red button, his laser worked, his helmet did a funny gas noise when opened, even the panel in his wrist had a sound effect, the guy was an amazing toy, truly amazing, and barely used.
Well, my brother and I played with him so much that we didn't think much about his fragility. We took his wings off and put them back on frequently, pressed the buttons non-stop, and after playing he was just thrown back into the toy chest, so he kept getting scratched, got dirty with play dough, dust, broke his wing, broke his arm, and so on... at least we played with him for a very long time. My brother didn't played with him anymore and I got Buzz for me (I didn't stole it, the toy was ours, it just had my brother's title in it and he didn't played with it anymore lmao), that man dated so many Barbies I swear. Funny fact: sometimes I would make blanket forts and put toys with flashing lights inside them, organize the dolls inside, put on music and call it a party, and Buzz would always be there flirting with everyone lol
But yeah going back to the subject, we played with him so much that he broke. Actually I'm surprised by the fact that Andy didn't broke them by the third movie. Time has passed, I restored my Monster High dolls and went on with my childish interests, but Toy Story wasn't something I really cared about revisiting. We moved into a new house and my brother put most of his toys in our "mess room" (basement), and so did I, except for my barbies/barbie sized dolls that are in a toy chest (the MH/EAH are in a shelf). Somehow this Buzz doll appeared again and I decided to put him in my barbie toy chest because I thought "huh I could restore you later actually"
And that's when this week arived, after 4 years living in this house. I'm rewatching all the movies and shorts, because of nostalgia and because I remembered how good those movies were, and I finally decided to restore my Buzz Lightyear. I'm recording the whole process and I'll post it on my YouTube channel. Honestly, I don't think I'll be able to fix everything and make him brand new. For example, the laser arm was ripped off, and even if I find the missing piece, I think it'll be hard to get it working again, especially because I don't know how to maintain the electronic part of the toy and my father, who knows, certainly won't help me with that. Besides, his helmet is very worn and I think it'll be hard to get it back to its previous shine and transparency. And his wings? Not even in my dreams, they have problems opening, problems with the lights, they don't have their "protective cover" outside anymore and the wires are exposed, forget it. What I want to do is bring dignity to the doll and restore him in my way. This means that even if he won't work again, or if he doesn't appears in perfect, what matters most is the fact that it was fixed and is in better condition. I want to treat him well, that is.
The kind of "fixing" I'm talking about is not making him work again completely, but for example taking his broken arm and putting a bandage on it, so we can pretend he broke his arm and he's healing, you know? I'll repaint him, glue his parts back together and... put him somewhere in my room. In a shelf
I know you're probably curious about what Buzz this is, and after doing some research I found out: "Buzz Lightyear Blue Cloud Thinkway Toys from 2009"
Probably collectors reading this are having a heart attack? Maybe. I'm sorry for breaking a very nice item :/
799,00 dollars is a good amount of money! Thinking about the fact that my mom bought him for 2-3 bucks... when talking to my mom about the price for a new Buzz doll that is just like mine (bad word choice: I meant, "how much a new doll of this type costs today"), she said surprised: "and thinking that these toys were junk, no one wanted them to the point of ending up here where we are and for such a cheap price. No one wanted them!" Which I found quite an interesting observation. How did a second hand, perfect, no sign of use, every single interaction working, clean, brand new Buzz Lightyear ended up in a (supposed) thrift store???
Tumblr media
This is my YouTube channel:
My videos are in portuguese so I would advise to add captions :/ I'm planning to make a video about this process and I hope I will (if my depression allows me)
I'm currently pretty much hyperfocused in this again, but I think it will be for a short amount of time. I don't love my other interests less. Buzz is now my favorite Toy Story character btw, sorry Woody. Ummm I kinda unburied from memory that Buzz had a TV show and I took a small look at the pilot but didn't watched it yet (it didn't caught much my attention but maybe I'm judging the book by it's cover). I saw that this cartoon has a fandom here on Tumblr but it's more focused on Buzz' crew then in Toy Story for itself. Anyways it's very nice to know that this fandom exists
Now it's 08:00 AM I'm so tired but now I can't sleep anymore
Edit: Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is an amazing show, go watch it, it's great!!!

*One bot is solved, but the other one... I still don't understand, maybe it's the text, so I'll redo it, but it's for a long time, or the bot will be cancelled.
*And yes, I had the idea of this bot in my head for a long time, but I like the tandem of Polly and Aberama so much that I didn’t want to create something like that, thereby thinking that I would destroy it, so if I angered anyone, forgive me, I agree with you

I really love all those designs! Especially Marcy’s, Mothcy is absolutely adorable!
Some questions:
What is Anne’s day to day life like with the plantars? Does she start using her magic to help out with the crops?
How is the rest of Wartwood different with magic being so much of a bigger deal?
How often does Anne bonk her horns on doorways?
If they go back to earth, would they still have their magic? And if so, how would Anne’s parents take their daughter coming back with glowing hair, horns and magical powers?
IKR I love the moth wing cape idea they had in some of the betas so I yoinked it lol.
To answer your questions:
Anne’s day to day is pretty similar to the original series, typical shenanigans with Sprig and Polly and gripes with hop pop eventually coming to her seeing the, as family. It just involves more magic-y stuff and Anne practicing her powers. She does help the plantars with the crops for sure, probably inadvertently causing some shenanigans as she’s learning how to control her magic.
The rest of Wartwood resembles what a small town in the woods might look like in dnd, so pretty similar to what it looks like already. Each family typically specializes in a specific kind of magic that corresponds to what the family does, like Maddie’s family specializes in fire magic to assist with their baking (Maddie, however, dabbles in all sorts of magic cuz that’s just who she is lol.)
With how often she bonks her head in the original series, she bonks her horns even more LMAO. It definitely takes time for her to get used to the extra height.
Yes, Anne does come back to earth with her powers. It takes time for Anne to actually go back home because she panics about what her parents will think about the changes and she has no idea how to explain everything. The Plantars do their best to calm her down and assure her that everything will work out. For a while she wears a disguise of sorts to try to hide her different traits for a bit (she does tell her parents pretty much right away) but after an incident, likely with Cloak-bot, she ditches the disguise and embraces her magic aspects. More old art to show this:
